okay so i have gained a new species of spore for my collective brainrot and i have found the perfect selling pitch to drag everyone i care about down with me. if you know the show this is hilarious. if you haven't watched it pay attention:
the show's called leverage. you know how there's those crime serials that aren't good at all but we've all watched a little too much of at least one of them even though they are blatant copaganda which is morally terrible? take your favorite one of those, but remover the copaganda. all the characters are criminals but their only victim is capitalism. every cop in the show is stupid at best and blatantly corrupt to a disgusting level most of the time. there is just as much genuine and intelligent social commentary as this premise demands.
i sense i already have you hooked. i can make this better. stick with me for a minute on this: the character dynamic is a muppet movie but also the Scooby gang
stick with me here!
You have Parker, who fit into the Scooby gang as Scooby and would be played by Gonzo. her crime thing is that she is a cat burglar and she is very good at it. her skill with it is borderline slapstick (hence Scooby) and she is very autistic coded and misunderstood (hence Gonzo)
You've got Eliot, who is the Shaggy and is played by Sam Eagle. He is the brute force of the team and he wants you to think he is all serious and grimdark. but he loves making the employees and victims of their capitalist targets aware of unions and he is a big himbo. i say he is shaggy because he plays Parker's straight man, he has the second most cartoonlike abilities, and he has a passion for cooking
Hardison is Velma as played by Kermit. he is a geeky hacker with a passion for orange soda and he is the heart of the team. he gets overlooked as leader even though he is the driving force of everything they do. like Velma. he also has that trademark Kermit brand of slapstick and deadpanned humor in balance.
Sophie is Daphne as played by miss piggy. she is basically the world's best grifter, she usually the front man interacting with the target the most. she has that crazy streak and the self defense capacity that miss piggy and Daphne (when she's done right) both have. she also has the confidence and style.
Nate is Fred and he is the human character. Fred has "let's split up gang" and Nate has "then we have to steal *fill in the blank with something comedically unfit to finish the sentence*" Fred and Nate are both flat characters with the main trait "i think I'm the leader but my smart friend does all the work" and the main interest of "trapping and screwing over capitalists" he mainly gets to call himself the leader because he's the idea guy and he has an apartment. his role in the muppet analogy is the peak of my pitch if you're still here. because while this is definitely not the Christmas Carol, Nate is the human character because he is Ebenezer Scrooge if instead of being a capitalist, Scrooge was an alcoholic and instead of character growth he was just steadily losing his mind. his moral compass and general intelligence are on a roulette wheel that is spun at random intervals lasting from seconds to the occasional few hours. also he and Sophie have divorced parents of grown children syndrome and the other three are said children. in vibes, of course, they aren't actually related.
if anyone stayed with me through all of that you should seriously watch it. even if i sound like i pulled this all out of my ass. it's so good.
it's an actively anticapitalist, copaganda free crime show where you get to see fun characters beat up every thing bad in society and fuck it all over. it balances fun comedy and wild characters with serious topics and moments in a way that is very natural and genuine. it also has one of my favorite autistic coded characters, a positive and healthy relationship that develops in a way that feels natural to the characters (as well as a rockier one if you're into drama) and it is in the midst of what looks to be an actually well handled revival series with the original cast. i haven't caught up yet but I'm so excited for it. the original had 5 seasons and the revival is waiting to be renewed for season 3.
please go watch leverage. it's so good and it deserves more fans. also i want more fic and that next season

Dead Boy Spoilers
Things I'd like to see in Dead Boy Detectives Season 2
Tragic Mick and Monty form an Animals with Complicated Feelings About Being Human at Some Point support group. Maybe the Cat King is there too.
Monty takes on Tragic Mick's "curse" and get's to be human again and Mick get's to be a walrus or at least get's to not be human anymore and is a crow. Monty could even take over his store!
Monty and the Cat King dealing with loneliness together. The Cat King has all the loneliness of being an immortal that Edwin's making him unpack (in particular he hangs out with cats all day like fuck they have even shorter life spans than people god he must have lost a lot of loved ones) and Monty deals with loosing his owner/master/mother/weird aunt figure who's probably been his whole world for better and worse up until he got turned human.
Whoever Monty is hanging out with I want to see him far too earnestly doing their star charts.
Boys and Crystal solving just fun random MOTW cases
The Night Nurse and Jenny tearing their hair out trying to keep the teens in check.
Night Nurse in particular having an aneurism every time the boys refuse to fill out a form, brake a rule, or run off without her.
Although alternatively Edwin getting VERY into the forms and learning how Hell and the afterlife works, and instead pestering her about it.
Jenny focusing more on Crystal - and Niko when she comes back.
Jenny learning she can care a bit more. The Night Nurse learning to relax and care a little less.
Jenny getting a good date. Loving her ship with Death but also I like the idea of them meeting a Cat Queen and her little comment about everyone in town being spinsters with cats comes round to instead be this ancient being who is a cat.
Crystal researching her ancestors and finding out more about them.
Crystal dealing with the demon in her brain hopefully before he does something irreparable to her tree.
Maybe they end up interrogating David about the "something worse" Edwin was sold to.
Crystal learning about her powers!
Crystal trying to repair some of her old friendships. Make amends to a couple of people.
Niko reforming the dandelion sprites and learning to lead/work with them. Helping them all find a way to feed without murdering people.
Nico dealing with needing attention to eat and live despite her coping mechanism when she's sad or scared specifically being avoiding people and hiding from others.
Niko figuring out her dandelion god powers. Doing god like things like blessing people who love, care for, and harvest dandelions. Granting wishes when dandelions are blown!
Niko marriage counseling Kingham & Litty (the dandelion sprites).
Either Crystal and Charles giving being together another shot now that David has been "dealt" with for the time being or Charles figuring out that maybe he's attracted to Edwin too. Or both!
I love that since Edwin is "living" through the modern day he can explore his sexuality finally. In a similar vein a lot of people also see him as autistic, and autism awareness has certainly come a long way from the Edwardian period and now could be a good time for his character to explore this too. Charles in turn could help him by talking about their shared neurodivergent experience as I firmly believe he has ADHD.
Charles opening up more about his parents.
Learning Edwin's family backstory
Cat King having Desire as a sort of absentee parental figure so literally the whole gang can have parental issues. Night Nurse I assume does not have parents so get's to be the mentally stable one in this regard and (try to) help everyone through it.
Niko checking in on her mum. Seeing how she's coping.
Edwin and Crystal bonding over doing magic and getting closer as friends. He maybe even initiates a hug!
Edwin getting to initiate a kiss with someone
Scooby Do episode! (I vote Charles is Daphney, Edwin is Velma, Niko is Shaggy and Cyrstal is Fred, maybe the Cat King or Monty is Scoob).
Despair shows up again.
Maybe now that the boys don't need to run from death they reverse it and actively try to seek her out and talk to her.
Crystal seeing her little ghost friend Emma from the first episode again.
Edwin reading Niko's yaoi. It could even be really funny and bittersweet where when they still think she's dead he's reading it and getting emotional and saying to himself "she really did love love" or "I wish I could read this with her" or something emotional like that and then he flicks to the next page and it's something explicit and he suddenly shuts the book and is like "Enough of that for now" XD
Either Edwin and the Cat King get together. Or become friends. Or Thomas makes friends or something with some other kind of immortal so he's not so lonely. I'm leaning towards them being friends because he would have no issues being the friend that explains what hand jobs and molly is to Edwin. Also since he presents himself in a very ambiguously gendered way I feel like he could get him to talk about why he likes disguising himself as a woman so much. Whether than be introducing him to concepts like gender queerness or drag. It's just honestly both Charles and Edwin are pretty repressed and I think now that the Cat King has started to grow he could continue to really push them in a less intense, healthier way.
Monty and Edwin staying friends. Monty and Charles actually getting to properly vibe.
Jenny figuring out now that the shop is dead if butchering is truly what she wants. Since she did it because she inherited the shop she can really explore her wants without any feeling of obligation to her dad. I love that she's a butcher but I just think it'd be interesting to explore her passion for it without so much baggage.

i want to break my only-art-posts rule on here for just a moment, to talk about about fred jones as a canon autistic character and what he's meant to me personally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my childhood love of scooby doo suddenly reawaked back in november of 2021, which just so happened to be around the time i was seriously questioning that i may be autistic. the realisation put so much into perspective, but i was equally afraid and uneasy about it all. therefore, i began to rewatch mystery incorporated as a source of comfort.
and just... there was a character who was a good leader, a loyal friend, a desirable romantic partner. there was a character who represented this unshakeable force of good in a town otherwise founded upon cynicism and spite. there was a character who, yes, was treated as the butt of the joke from time to time. but even despite that, was a surprisingly thoughtful representation of how an autistic teenager might navigate emotions, relationships, and the world at large.
the more i watched of this version of fred, the more i doubted that his sheer amount of autistic traits were purely a coincidence. and sure enough, i discovered that mitch watson (sdmi showrunner) confirmed on the unmasked history of scooby doo podcast that fred was indeed written with autism in mind.
(more beneath the cut!)
for a while, this was knowledge that i celebrated quietly. i told a couple of people who were interested, but that was about it. what mattered most to me was that it was canon, and that this character i had loved since i was a child was just like me. talking too much about his interests, missing social cues, being confused by big emotions... the list went on. it sounds silly to say about a cartoon character, but identifying with fred's portrayal in sdmi (and subsequent scooby media influenced by it) genuinely helped me to accept and even love myself as an autistic person, in a time when i was feeling hopeless for realising what had made me so different all my life.
as i continued to fall down the scooby rabbit hole, i encountered fred moments new and old that would always cheer me up. i decided to compile them into a short youtube video, mostly just for my own self-indulgence. i had absolutely no idea what i was getting myself into (/pos).
over a year on, most notably following the release of the hbo velma series, my video absolutely blew up. to the point where it currently stands at 825k views, which is utterly unfathomable to me. thousands of people who cared about this character like i did flooded the comments, expressing anger at his most recent portrayal and genuine love for his portrayals in past media.
however, the comments that especially made my day were those like: "how did i not realise that fred has a special interest in nets?", "he's autistic, let him infodump!", and those of a similar wording. in that comments section, as well as on tumblr, canonically autistic fred seemed to have become widespread, accepted and celebrated, showcased in comments with hundreds of likes and posts with hundreds of notes. it absolutely floored me, and i was delighted to have contributed to it.
i haven't made this post to pat myself on the back for throwing some clips together and getting a lot of views, nor to say "i knew it first!" about fred being autistic. i am simply looking back in retrospective, and getting incredibly misty-eyed over the fact that people are newly appreciating this character that has helped me through so much and been instrumental in leading me to my official autism diagnosis. you can see the sappy post i made about it on my old scooby sideblog here.
in summary, this is yet another story about how representation matters! even if it comes in the form of a historically overlooked teenage mystery solver from a 50+ year old cartoon franchise. what matters most is that it was more than just a headcanon, and has changed my life for the better.
if you're still reading, thank you so much! if you are also neurodivergent, i would love to hear your thoughts on fred, and if you've also identified with him in some way. he's... a tréasure :)

(ED MENTION!)
Been rewatching Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. and hyperfixating on small town gothic mystery aesthetics, so here’s my version of the gang if I were to write my own adaptation:
Fred
Tumblr media
19, engineering major
6’2”
Autistic
His special interest is traps
Asexual and biromantic, he/him
In a pre-established relationship with Daphne, they’re a ride-or-die couple and can sometimes be sappy to the point that they gross the others out
The heart of the group, brought everyone together, is usually the one to cool down arguments
Decent at cooking but REALLY good at baking
Gets ascots from Daphne every year for his birthday
Knew Velma a little in high school, mainly from physics and math but never got to actually know her until college
Got the Mystery Machine from a sketchy car dealer when he turned 16 and loves the old rust bucket to death
Velma:
Tumblr media
18, forensics science major, minor in history
4’11”
Also autistic, self-diagnosed because it’s really hard to get a diagnosis
Lesbian and genderqueer, she/they
Had a crush on Daphne a few years ago, but when Daphne and Fred got together she forced herself to ignore it until it eventually went away
LOVES true crime podcasts, kinda wants to start their own one day
Super blunt and sarcastic, can sometimes come off as rude to the people who don’t know them that well
Struggled with an eating disorder for a while, Shaggy helped her recover and now they’re best friends
Tech wiz
Daphne:
Tumblr media
19, fashion design major
5’6”
Pan, she/her
Grew up in a wealthy family with four older sisters, was always pressured by her parents to fit their image of perfection, so she eventually started deliberately doing things to piss them off
Starting a relationship with Fred was the breaking point and now she doesn’t talk to them (she still keeps in touch with her sisters, though)
Natural blonde, dyes her hair
The most athletic out of all of them, used to do gymnastics and dance throughout middle school and high school
Quit when she realized how much it was negatively affecting her body image
Hates when people assume she’s ditzy just because she’s hyperfeminine
Looks mean at first, is actually super sweet
Fascinated with ghosts and cryptids
Loves ‘80s and ‘90s Heathers-inspired fashion
Shaggy:
Tumblr media
20, culinary arts major but was undecided for a while
5’9”
Aroace, he/him
Mix of hippie and grunge aesthetic
Definitely smokes weed
Loves ‘70s and ‘80s music
Has a panic disorder, ADHD, and dyslexia
Has seen every classic horror movie to ever exist despite being terrified of them
Everyone assumes the Mystery Machine belongs to him until someone in the Mystery Gang corrects them
Will eat basically any type of food you put in front of him
Shitty relationship with his parents since they have unreachable expectations for him and constantly compare him to his classmates and cousins
Scooby:
Tumblr media
Shaggy’s psychiatric service “dog”
Not actually a dog—in reality he’s an alien who crash-landed near Shaggy’s house and took the form of a Great Dane, the Rogers got him trained as a service dog for Shaggy’s panic disorder, and the rest is history
Shaggy still has no idea (although he and the gang do think it’s weird that Scoob can talk)
Despite being a bit of a coward he’d do anything to protect the gang, especially Shaggy
Likes horror movies just as much as Shaggy
Will eat literal garbage if hungry enough (which is all the time)
Started developing doglike traits over the years (barks at people walking by, hates the vacuum, developed a taste for dog treats, etc.)
Also here’s the full body photos i drew:

@unrestrainedbalderdash said they don't care if I put Jonathan Crane into my idea of how I would do an adult Scooby cartoon. And since they are someone who I really liked and I really just need one person saying "hey is okay" to me to overly babble over something here we are.
Disclaimer: I did not watch the Velma show. I saw the trailer and reviews but that is it. This is also not a recreation of it. It's merely how I would do an adult scooby doo story with a more representative cast.
▫️Alpha Kappa Scobby (I'm bad naming stuff)
Is time to grow up.
With the end of high school comes the anxiety inducing question of what to do next? To the Mystery Inc. the answer was always obivous: continuing solving mysteries together. Unfortunally fate appeared to have other plans. Between parental presure, a crashing economy, a shitty job market and an investigation that abelit sucefull ended up breaking the Mystery Machine, hurting a civilian and facing the local authorities ultimatum that they could not keep their unregulated detective agency it appears to be the end.
But the thing is mysteries never ever leave the gang. Where they are things happen and as they face the monsters of adult life other monsters may appear on the way. Are they ready?
▫️The Gang
- Velma is our main characther. She is a second generation imigrant kid from an indian-american family, possibly autistic (mostly represented by her sensory issues and examples of masking) and a genius who suffers from anxiety and the pressure that both comes with societal expectations related to prejudice, familial expectations (especially as a second generation imigrant) and being a gifted kid. She is also a lesbian.
- Shaggy is Shaggy. They are a possibly stoner black latino (he may be a stonner or it may be just harmfull steriotypes possibly both) and they are also ace and non-binary using they/then pronouns. Norville is their deadname and the fact their parents call them that is a dead give away of the time of people they are. Shaggy was adopted and their parents are upped middle class white guys who adopted three POC kids and act extremily white saviour over it. Their bio parents are implied to be scientistis at Star Labs that died in an freaky accident when they eere still little. They may have something to do with Scooby being a talking dog. Though they met by Shaggy adopting a stray puppy. Their personality is still the same. Except for the parents issues. Like they are still the same glutonous coward who cares a lot for their friends and likes bad horror movies.
- Scooby is Scooby. Like nothing changed at all about him. Except that outside the gang people do question the fact he is a talking dog. Since their world is really weird people go from allien to failed scientific experiment of either LexCorp or Starlabs. The more accepted theory is that he is the first non-human to manifest a meta gene. He isn't being studies because he flied over radar until the gaang started solving mysteries and at this point he was too popular plus the governent had other more important issues going on. So he is just a fact.
- Daphne is a girl who defy expectations. She is weird. She has two mons (a thing I know is cannon on the Velma cartoon and am using), one is a british martial artist and the other a american fashion designer and she got very deep into both of her mons careears. She has some relatives in jail and she learned a bunch with them. She loves to learn except not the school stuff, so her grades were meh and people usually saw her as just a pretty face, even though she has a bunch of great skils like fighting, fashion, faking signatures, lock picking, stealth, acting, a bunch of sports and more. She is bissexual and has a huge crush on both Elvira and Hex Girls. She also loves escape artists (being good at scaping herself) and is a fan of bad horror movies and campy actors. She also has a crush on Fred.
- Fred is a sweet bissexual himbo and he is very clearly neurodivergent and definitvaly autistic. He stims a lot, has dificulty getting social clues, misses most sarcasm and some abstract expressions, has a huge special interest in traps, sometimes goes non-verbal, just the whole book. He is a rich white boy but fails to meet his misoginistic racist parents expectations not only by hangin with the gaang but by having a disability. His parents never took him to a doctor to be diagnosed because they believed it would bring shame to the family to have a disabled kid and just hoped he would "grow out of it". He does have some internalized prejudice but it's working to be better. He also has a huge crush in Daphne, is a very supportive and loyal friend and infodumps people a lot.
▫️The Pilot
The pilot episode starts with the gaang reciving their ultimatum and having to undergo an state aproved course to became private investigators and be abble to keep the Mystery Inc. going. Shennanigans issue and they all end up failing.
Daphne is too good on the self defense courses and also may have caused a teacher who implied she would need to do sexual favors for him if she hoped to pass in his boring law class to never be able to walk again. Luckily he was too afraid to press charges.
Fred keept trying to insert trap making into the course to ridiculous extremes.
Shaggy broke the vending machine, ate all the food and also just keept running away from the clues in all the pratical texts. They answers also mostly involved running and getting uninvolved.
No one knew if Scooby should do dog training or humam courses and he ended in a confusing stream of buerocracy.
Velma should by all means had suceeded though and the only reason she failed was racial bias. She tries to brush it off, after all she was not going to be a detective on her own anyway and all her friends failed, but it clearly afects her and this will be a thing hanging over her head the whole season. The episode ends with Velma discovering she got approved to a full scholarship on a fictional ivvy league university outisde of Crystal Cove she had applied more for her parents sakes than her in criminology.
▫️They failed what now?
After a whole debate during the second episode and the gaang being supportive even if it means it is the definitive end for them, Velma decides to go to college. Of course trying to keep together the whole gaang somehow ends up involved with the campus.
- Shaggy and Scobby get a job at the college cafeteria that Shaggy uses to move into a trailer in the college parking lot (that they plans into turning in a food truck) so they can get away from their transphobic parents. Scobby of course moves with them.
- With help of white rich cis man priviledge Fred gets accepted to the same school but into architeture (he does uses this knoledge to plan traps but also realizes he likes projecting rooms on general). The thing is thanks to missanderstanding a sarcastic coment from Velma he ends up being part of a very "bro" fraternity. It's mostly played for laughs as he definitivally doesn't belong there but also accidentaly starts turning the guys into better people. But also features on Fred understanding his priviledge and the internalized prejudices his parents dumped on him and evolving past them and also dealing with ableism.
- Daphne decided to try to work in a close by cafe and became roomates with a goth girl called June that works with Shaggy and Scooby. Both are fired and decide to open an etsy store together. She is also doing an online course on fashion. Velma has a crush on June and June is implied to have a criminal past. The etsy store is mostly used for laughs though it also is used to show Daphne dealing with being different from soceity expectations and the hardships of having a small bussiness.
▫️The Plot
The story focuses on their adventures on campus as they deal with adult life but also as weird things keep happening and students end up either getting murdered or disapearing all the time. While focused on episodic shennanigans with characther growth as the linear aspect there are some key episodes that show that there's a major conspiracy involving the university's past and the looming presence of an white supremacist cult.
▫️Cool and all but where is Jonathan Crane?
The thing is if I was writing this series I would make the connection with DC be mostly references with some few special episodes starting on the second season (including the obligatory Batman team-up and a episode were Riddler, who is on his P.I arc, is hired to the same case the Mystery Inc is in and they have to work together). So we would have things like Scooby possibly having the metagene, Velma being a Batman fangirl and having some batfam merch in the middle of her detective merch, Fred being a Green Arrow fan and buying trap material for Ace Chemicals and LexCorp, Daphne mentioning her uncle Alfred or Shaggy's bio parents having been Star Lab scientistis. Some name drops like WayneTech or Lex Luthor.
The exception being Jonathan Crane. Jon is an actual relevant secundary characther. After mysterious circunstances involving a fight with the dean, a recomendation letter and an ultimatum, Jonathan leaved Gotham University and became a teacher at the Yet To Be Named University where the gang is.
His disciplines are an eletive about phobias, psychophatology and forensic psychology. He is famous over the campus for being a genius and a great teacher but also for being harsh, having extremely high standards and hard exams and just being creepy and really really weird. There is legit theories of him being some kind of cryptic or a ghost. He has the uncanny hability of walking without making any noise and being abble to be silent and quiet until he suddently scares someone with his presence. He speaks little outside the classroom and is always alone. And if someone tries to be friendly with him, he will just leave and let the person hanging. No one ever saw him eat only drink coffe (that may be spiked with whisky sometimes). He is mostly saw outside classes either writing/typing or reading (he only reads text books and horror stories). He has a crow in his office and while the bird is calm and sweet with him it sings creepy old childrem rhymes and it definitivaly attacked a student who got emotional over a bad grade and started screaming with Crane.
With all that being said Crane is Velma's fsvorite professor and she is his favorite student. He doesn't presure or mocks her and is fascinated by her theories and they can discuss psychology, chesmistry, literature and criminology for hours. They respect each other and have a deep understanding being fairly similar (and yes make Crane be also POC, prefencialy south asian), they are friends and with her family alway Velma sees Crane as a pseudo father-figure. Even Crane's bird Ichabod seems to also enjoy Velma a lot. The rest of the gang has more mixed views of Crane. He is always polite with them but he is also creepy as hell specially with Shaggy and Scooby as he asks them a lot of questions about their fears.
Every single time someone either dies or disappears everyone accuses Crane. He is ALWAYS a suspect. And Velma is his only defender (sometimes the gang as whole also). And he is always show to be innocent. But is also hinted that he is still planning and doing Scarecrow shit and while it's played for laughs the huge impact Crane and Velma's bond have to Velma overcoming her issues is a hint that when it finally happens of Crane being the guilty part and his Scarecrow persona coming to light it will break Velma's heart.

i’m not liking the jelloapocalypse scooby doo vid very much. i’m not a big mystery inc fan (except for fred who is best boy) so that’s part of it, but I also disagree with his character analyses at points.
I totally agree that velma’s relationship with shaggy is the worst thing about mystery inc, but i disagree that she’s ‘boring’ in older versions, like who doesn’t love velma??? I also disagree the be cool scooby doo velma doesn’t work, or even that her being a scientist and skeptic at the same time doesn’t work because (be cool scooby doo velma especially) is clearly autistic so her wanting rules and order and being scared of new ideas is extremely in character and makes sense. She can be the smart one without always being right about her approach to the world.
he said polyshipping the gang is ‘the dumbest thing’ like shut up how have you watched this much scooby doo and not seen chemistry between members of the gang besides fred and daphne and why are you dunking on people just like. polyshipping. why is that the worst thing to you
it’s also weird he says james gunn didn’t just hate scrappy, his depiction also killed him, when scrappy hadn’t been in the franchise for 14 years before the live action movie came out. he was already dead.
He’s also one of those people who (along with the writers, people were led to this) refers to Marcie mostly as Hot Dog Water which I literally always hate because she smells bad because she’s poor

Scooby-Doo Remake By Me
Because of the horridness that was Velma, I present my version of a modern Scooby-Doo remake in the "adult show" format. I have no ideas for the title
First off concept:
I’d imagine they're all in online college rather than in highschool. Velma would major in either law or history, Daphne is studying fashion, Fred is studying engineering, and Shaggy is studying psychology. Though one little change is rather than a group of monster hunters I’d imagine them as a small news company and they’re all basically journalists (as a part time job). I do want to follow the one mystery per episode format however I will be taking the idea of there being a string of murders that the gang is following. I guess how it would be implied that it's an adult show would be the gore, just a few swears, and maybe for characters arcs and side plots more adult topics are explicitly talked about.
Fun little thing I’d like to add is the gang has a swear jar hence all their different catch phrases, I believe that Shaggy would swear the most. I would also make it so the gang travels around the world and we'd get to see different ghost folklore and history.
Now the fun part; The Gang
Velma:
Velma I imagine being a very book smart person with a more dorky personality. I imagine her being not very street smart and tends to be a bit unaware of the situation meaning she tends to be a bit brutally honest. She gets a bit far too invested in the mysteries. Velma would be very organized and controlled compared to the group and just really loves learning things and solving mysteries. I do imagine her being more introverted and not as willing to talk to others outside of the gang. I also just like the idea of an autistic Velma, which I think might fit.
Daphne:
Daphne I suppose would be a very upbeat and energetic person. I remember in some versions she was very damsel in distress type, so I just imagine her being reckless and clumsy so she gets into danger often but she can hold her own. She definitely loves the danger and adventure aspect of the mystery solving the gang does. I also just like the idea that she was in a very high up family so she’s very rich so she tends to be a bit unaware of what counts as expensive to others, so sometimes she just spends without thinking while the others stare confused. Daphne would definitely be the one interested in more horror related content.
Fred:
The golden retriever. The himbo. The sweet guy who just wants to make everyone happy. I imagine him being more kind and charismatic in this version and is just a very likable person, like a teddy bear. I do see the potential to make him someone who goes a bit too far in the self-sacrificing side of things. I also imagine that he is actually very intelligent (the traps) but focuses far too much on that one thing. I also just imagine his smart moments just come out at the most random times and he believes that its basic information doesn't explain anything so everyone else (maybe except Velma) is confused. I believe in the idea that Fred’s catchphrase is fuck and everytime he says that he puts a coin in the swear jar. ADHD coded Fred, just an energetic person with strange fascinations (aka traps)
Shaggy and Scooby:
Shaggy I don’t know why but based on what we already know I imagined he’d be a very sarcastic person. He also just really loves food and of course is a bit of a coward. Based on the idea from Lavender Town, I do wanna follow the idea of Scooby being a service dog however I’d make him an anxiety service dog instead. I do like the concept of Shaggy suffering from anxiety and maybe developed the habit of overeating. For Scooby, if he talks then he talks but I love the idea of his situation being similar to Groot meaning everyone in the gang can understand him but everyone else (including the audience) can't understand anything. Shaggy is the coward of course but I also imagined he’s actually somewhat of a jock and is often used as a distraction because of his speed. Also based of his past interpretations he would be a pretty sassy and sarcastic kind of dude here. He just seems to like insulting people in the past versions.

This probs still won't be out for a hot minute but I've been doing some rewatching and research for this and it's so interesting to look at SDMI Fred through a queer lense, because there is some queer to be coded here folks
One of my first thoughts comes from the social ostracization of him and his interests. Mayor Jones is heavily disapproving of his son's interest in trap-making, and is known to encourage Fred push down any strong emotions, I can think of quite a few examples of the Mayor telling Fred not to get "girly" on him. The same can also be said for many of Fred's peers, like Gary and Ethan, who resort to name-calling Fred & co for an interest that they rlly can't help.
That's not to say Fred has no one to turn to, he has his own group of friends also somewhat outcast by their highschool society, who he is able to turn to when in need.
While not intentional, I think there is a lot LGBTQ+ individuals can relate to in regards to Fred's situation; there's alot of parallels to the queer experience to be made.
I would be remiss to not mention that fans have also read this incarnation of Fred through an aromantic and/or asexual lense, given his early-on lack of interest in Daphne as a romantic partner, preferring to view the gang and himself as future platonic life partners in some regard.
And obviously, none of these things are exclusive to the queer experience. In fact, a lot of the things I've mentioned are meant to INTENTIONALLY code Fred as neurodivergent, which I think is rad as hell. Fred is intended to be autistic in SDMI and that influences alot of his actions and personality, but being neurodivergent and being queer are not mutually exclusive to one another.
In short; is Fred SDMI queer coded in the same way Velma SDMI is queer coded? No. Those who have worked on SDMI have explicitly said that the Velma in their show is a lesbian and is meant to be coded as such. Fred, I'd argue, while probably not intentionally coded, has quite a bit one could cite within the text to validate that idea. It is not necessarily always what the author of a work intended, but how the fans view said work.
Anyways, this has gone on for far too long y'all, if you're one of my mutuals and you somehow read all that word vomit: love you :) <333
The urge to write a whole essay abt Fred's ascot and how it relates to queer coding, homophobia, and toxic masculinity is strong today fr

...i need more on that modern scooby doo plz
okay okay okay
daphne is still the queen bee of the school everyone worships her and the ground she walks on. her main storyline would be probs something about her parents neglecting her and how she’s actually really lonely since her parents are always away and how she finds safety and reassurance in the gang. a classic love triangle forms between her fred and velma  also she’s black
fred is the same old trap loving geek as always. which is kind of terrible because no one else cares about his blueprints or his silly traps because i mean this isn’t some teletoon special. he’s crazy smart and has such a high iq, but no one believes him because he has trouble getting his ideas out into words. he’s desperately in love with daphne but doesn’t know how to show it. he’s the leader and is the founder of mystery inc. he put his heart and soul into this gang and would die before he let it fall apart. also he’s autistic
velma is sarcastic and her humor is dry. she knows more unnecessary facts than anyone you’ve ever met. she bonds with fred over this. she’s more of the researcher of the gang. her parents disapprove of mystery inc and she uses this as an excuse to rebel. she’s a lesbian and she’s in love with daphne
shaggy and daphne were secret friends before the gang was formed since both of their parents were close friends. they bonded over being extremely rich and hating themselves for it. shaggy likes the simple life better choosing to live in his van with scooby instead of with his parents but he still uses his weekly allowance to fill the hole in his stomach. he’s the glue that keeps everyone together. the peace keeper if you will. he’s willing to go to great lengths to keep everyone happy. he’s also trans
and scooby’s a dog
