A lot of my moots for the arcana game have moved on, but I honestly can't find it in myself to march on to greener pastures with them 🤧

And believe me when I say I have tried to but there's just something about the game's universe/setting/characters that I just can't help but get lost in. I realised this not only when I was remaking my oc's pinterest board but also through the comments on this amazing playlist series for the arcana game characters on yt that its so easy to imagine myself skipping through Versuvia's market with Asra. Or chatting with Julian while he drinks a very unhealthy amount of black coffee . . . Gossiping with Portia or even pranking Lucio to make Nadia chuckle. And ofc ofc weighing Muriel done until he tolerates my presence. Like there is so much to unpack here and despite the bittersweet feeling I got when I finished Asra's route, he's all that occupies my brain.

I JUST-

. . . Gosh I just love this game (if it isn't obvious haha) And I also love how characters are super unique here and PAINFULLY human. There's more to them than what you can see on the surface even if it seems like otherwise. SEEMS! Basically, the whole mystery thing of something deeper going on that you get from the trailers is true!! There's so much more to Versuvia that I guarantee you won't find anywhere else. Sure, you'll find bits and pieces, but you won't find this anywhere else . . .

Even though i'm wary and don't wanna get my hopes too high, this certainly makes me excited to see what Touchstarved will have to offer since i've heard some of the devs have also worked on the arcana 🙆🏻‍♀️

“Come on, buddy. Let's go!” Based off of this voice line, I like to think Lúcio has a habit of saying his thought process out loud! Not in the way that’ll jeopardise the mission, but rather for the more mundane things like when he’s tinkering with something, or when he wants to sound out a new lyric.

In a similar vein, based on his Valentine’s voice line, he stutters and stammers when he’s nervous. It’s harder to hide it when he’s around you. Really, he wants to be cool, but when you smile at him, it’s like every line he was rehearsing the whole morning just leaves his brain! 

While his songs usually fall under the techno or electronic music genre, he actually listens to a little bit of everything. That one band you like that you think no one cares about? He knows about them, and he’d love to rave all about them with you.

It doesn’t take much to make him flustered. Compliment him once and he’ll be thinking about it the whole day. Whether it’s because of the compliment itself or because it’s from you, he’ll never tell. (It’s not like he’s subtle about it, but don’t tell him that!)

He’d love to have one of those cliché roller-skating dates with you. He gets to show off his sick moves, impress you, and hold your hand as you skate together? As far as he’s concerned, it’s his biggest win.

Sometimes you have to repeat things once or twice to get his attention. His mind is constantly flowing with new ideas, so he tends to get lost in them.

He knows a lot about music and will ramble about its history the moment you give him the get-go. He gets very animated talking about it, his eyes practically sparkling when he does so. He might get sheepish midway, but with some encouragement, he’ll get back on track.

Huge fan of slap bracelets and glow-in-the-dark trinkets. He can’t quite explain why, he just likes them. He likes collecting souvenirs from places he visits as well. Vinyls, CDs, old music players, anything vintage, you name it.

Overall, he’s a great guy to be around. He’s positive and optimistic, very encouraging and a good listener. If you don’t have plans for the day, tag along with him for a day out in the city! His spontaneity can lead to fun activities you can do together, like laser tag! With Lúcio, you won’t ever feel down. For him, being with you makes him feel the same way.

okay sanremo's week is officially over in italy and there's this singer that everyone is loving right now (i knew him, i just fell in love with his whimsical ass more after this) lucio corsi, and funnily enough he is a motorsports fan — motogp most of all.

but not only he reminds me so much of lando (everybody calls him "little elf" just like i do) but the song he brought to the festival was literally made for little lando norris.

you just have to trust me.

currently thinking about reworking lucios route after rewatching malacalicos video about him and his route being absolute shit for his character.

i feel like somewhere in there, there could be a really compelling story but the writers just didnt do it justice

hes a brat and a bitch and it isnt appealing, and i dont think he deserves a happy ending. not unless his character really goes through a massive change, but even then he wouldnt come out of it being buddy buddy with everyone.

i sort of want a story for him where mc doesnt stay with him and doesnt put up with his shit, i want a route where we can point out his mistakes to his face and force him to confront them and feel an ounce of remorse.

i dont want him to forgive himself or be forgiven. i want him to sit in turmoil and realize that everything he ever did, the people he hurt, the ones he killed, the countless places he colonized and ruined, all of it was for nothing. he didnt gain power, he didnt get his deals, he died and that was it (in his route, in all the others he turns to the devil). it was all a means to an end.

i need him to be more devastated to find out he killed you after youve spent months together, fought together, and helped him better himself. i need him to be horrified with his actions and just FEEL SOMETHING. ugh

maybe thats all why hes the main antagonist. but good lord i just need him to stop seeing lives he ruined and going "oopsie!! im so silly"

Some thoughts on Asra's route...

Replaying Asra's route after having played Muriel's really hits different...

In one of the other routes Asra and Muriel appear to start a romantic relationship, and in Asra's route it's very clear that Muriel cares very deeply for Asra and dislikes the Apprentice. He mentions in one of the paid? dream scenes that he's worried about Asra and the Apprentice fading into their own world and leaving everyone else behind (again, apparently), and that he's determined to stop this from happening. His concern for Asra and initial hostility toward the Apprentice may be rooted in jealousy, not only because his oldest (and only) friend was more or less taken from him, but perhaps with romantic connotations as well.

In Book XI: Justice, Asra and Julian stage a mock trial by combat against Muriel. Though he apparently agreed to participate and is implied to have returned to the Coliseum of his own volition, presumably out of concern for Asra, who has been accused of being Julian's accomplice... he is still more or less backed into a corner and forced to play along with Asra and Julian's plan to stage a fight.

Now, to be fair to Asra, he states after everything goes wrong that it wasn't supposed to end this way, and it appeared that he was attempting to not only exonerate himself and Julian from their charges but somehow help Muriel overcome his past (he does disintegrate Muriel's chains during the fight no matter what choices you make). There was a point during this that I thought I could guess what Asra's plan was regarding Muriel's past, but being refreshed on how it actually pans out, I can't remember it now. Something about making the people of Vesuvia realize how barbaric the Coliseum was under Lucio.

The thing that stands out to me throughout this whole ordeal is that Asra knows about Muriel's trauma. He knows he was enslaved to Lucio and forced to fight and execute people in the Coliseum. He knows that Muriel is terrified of hurting other people, especially those he cares about. In Asra's route, the only person Muriel cares about is Asra, so hurting him is triggering for him. He literally is in a stupor after the board he was using as a weapon splinters off and hits Asra in the mouth, making him bleed. This is clearly meant to make the reader worried about Asra, but Muriel reacts as well, and appears hypnotized by the blood. I remember the first time I read this I thought he was going to have some crazy berserker-Hulk sort of reaction, but having read his route, it's way more tragic.

Though Muriel did seem to return to the Coliseum of his own volition, it does seem that Asra took this as a sign that he was coming to terms with his trauma. He was willing to exploit Muriel's care for him in order to save his own skin so he can be with the Apprentice. Though I recognize Asra's other toxic traits to some degree, I also have similar ones myself so they don't really stand out to me. This, however, where he more or less disregards Muriel's feelings on the matter, is actually really crushing. In Muriel's route, his whole thing is that he DOES NOT want to fight, he DOES NOT want to even spar with the Apprentice with blunt sticks out of fear of hurting them, so why would he willingly go along with this unless he was more or less in the same position Lucio put him in? Fight in the arena, or something bad will happen to Asra.

Asra knows this, and puts him through it regardless. During the whole fight, Julian's actions are written so as to make it seem like he's the one messing things up--he takes the "finishing blow" that Muriel was going to deal to Asra and gets knocked unconscious. Asra spends most of the entire time doing flashy, dramatic magic tricks that get the crowd cheering for him. After he "wins", he and the Apprentice are carried out of the Coliseum like heroes. Though Asra will try to soothe Muriel if the Apprentice so chooses right before the end, and he does look for Muriel in the crowd, he seems otherwise unbothered or unaware of the impact this may be having on his oldest friend. Which is pretty shitty.

Of course, Asra, Julian, and Muriel are all playing characters during their fight--Asra is the flashy magician, Julian is the rogueish BDSM dagger guy, and Muriel is the Scourge. Asra obviously can't show his concern even if he wanted to because he's supposed to be fighting Muriel. But putting his bro into this situation in the first place says a lot about his character. Though Julian is the one whose route is based around self-loathing because he believes he hurts everyone around him, Asra is the only one who gets what he wants out of this ordeal, and he even says so right before the chapter ends. Muriel was forced to relive his trauma and didn't get the resolution that was intended, and Julian gets KOed by a punch that literally sent him flying across the arena (though he probably enjoyed it tbh, he's a nasty little man like that lmao).

I wonder if this dynamic between Asra and Muriel was intentionally written this way in order to further amplify his tunnel vision when it comes to the Apprentice. Is this is how he acted in the past, causing Muriel to hate the Apprentice as he does and remark that he won't allow it to happen again? Maybe (probably) I'm reading too much into it, but as a survivor of abuse and trauma it rubs me the wrong way much more than Asra's obsessive, clingy nature. Of all of the reversed ends, Asra's is the one that actually scared me and kind of haunted me, because it hits a little too close to home.

These are all just thoughts that I wanted to spill out because I thought it was interesting and I wasn't sure if anyone else has talked about it before.
