Monthly Update (Feb 6, 2024)
It has definitely been... a January. This year, I had a lot of plans and goals relating to my writing, but a lot of them are already not going through. One was to do weekly or monthly updates, kind of like when I did weekly updates while working on TS. But, it's still early in the year, so I figure its better late than never. Also still early in the month even if I didn't manage to get this out there at the end of January...
My personal life has been a bit hectic. First thing was that some major projects in the house I planned to have completed last year were finally finished this month--I have all new windows installed in my house now, and a new door, and while I didn't personally do the windows (I did install the door, though) it takes a lot of time to prep before and clean up after reno projects and get the house back in order, so I've spent the last two weeks on this. Additionally, I'd applied for a promotion at work, and then was coated in stress waiting for the results... (which I received a few days ago... and I got it! Been a long time coming, really.)
So this is the first one of these... just gonna throw things out here and decide on a format as they go.
Books Read
Finally completed The Fifth Season trilogy by N. K. Jemison. I wanted to finish this one last year, but the last book lingered into the new year.
All the Hidden Paths by Foz Meadows
The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
The Dead Take The A Train by Cassandra Khaw & Richard Kadrey
Important Posts
I shared a summary of my 2024 writing goals/wips on instagram. I meant to bring this over to tumblr and do a bit more on it but... didn't. Maybe this month?
Shadow's Prey: Act 1 wip intro here on tumblr
Writing
30k on Mortal Teeth. 15 chapters done of.. ?? a lot probably. 40 something, at least, if not 50-60 range. This completed the second major arc/goalpost (there are about 5 of these at the moment)
Shadow's Prey: Act 1 formatting is moving along well, and so it's still on time for a March release. I may aim more for mid March, depends on how quickly I'm able to finish up the extras and get some promo in. I really wish I could figure out exactly what size image it takes to make a full-page image in ebooks, but I think I'm going to have to settle for the title page not being... perfect. Which. Does not make me happy. But there really isn't a way to appease every e-reader, as they are all different sizes, so I am finding there is only so much I can control here.
Favorite Excerpt
I wrote a lot of things in Mortal Teeth that I was proud of this past month, but one of my favorite things I ran across when writing was realizing that my writing has improved... massively. It's been a while since I've had a leap of growth that I can easily pinpoint, but the extra I planned for SP Act 1 was partially written, and I needed to work on it. I kept getting stuck on continuing because something about it felt off/forced when I tried, so I did the classic open a new doc and retype/rework as I go... and quickly realized why I was having trouble working on it. My style had shifted dramatically....
This isn't a major point in the short, but I wrote the beginning of this around the middle of last year and it went from this:
Whereas Kanna actively ignored Masao’s approach, Ira glared at him in challenge. “Here,” Kanna said, drawing Ira’s attention by offering Amon’s reins as a lead. “Find someone to tend him, and get me a count of the survivors.” Masao’s voice at her back carried a smirk she could feel between her shoulder blades. “What about the casualties?”
to this:
While Ira glared at Masao in challenge, Kanna actively ignored him. Though she was coated with the blood of those she’d killed, her hands to her wrists to her elbows with it, Masao delighted in his stain. Even here, with the smell of death in the air and the unholy silence that followed battle, he smiled. The joy he radiated amidst destruction unsettled her, something deep inside of her flinching from it. Kanna gathered Amon’s reins, drawing Ira’s attention by offering them. “Find someone to tend him, and get me a count of the survivors.” Masao’s voice at her back carried a smirk she could feel between her shoulder blades. “What about the casualties?”
Final Thoughts
I was excited to get through another phase of MT in writing, but I don't think the time I've allotted to finish the draft is going to be enough. This stresses me out a bit, because I gave myself a pretty tight schedule for the year with all the releases (there are 4 ebooks, and I was considering restarting Act 4 in the serial which would be 5 releases total....)
I'm actually... thinking once again that I won't go back to serial posting for SP. Tapas was/is my primary platform for it, and I am simply... no longer a fan of the platform, and not really interested in others, either. So that might be one of the things in the "coming this year" that ends up pushed to next year or later this year, depending, as it will likely be an ebook release instead of serial and... I'm still working on drafting the teeth wip and I don't see it taking a backseat for a while, until I'm truly stuck.
I've been trying not to beat myself up about not doing the things I said I'd do at the start of the year (daily journaling, more updates here and other platforms, etc) because it's simply... not great for me. And really, I'm not sure I would have had the aforementioned improvement in my writing if I'd continued to stress myself out about writing itself, on top of doing all these other things that I'm supposed to do. I took it pretty easy last year after a massive disappointment, shutting down a lot of my online presence and focusing on reading and writing for myself, and I think that's what allowed me to become comfortable again and led to growth. I don't want to feel as defeated as I had that time, because its the kind of thing that would have led to me completely giving up in my younger years, and I also don't want to get stagnant because I'm trying to do too much that isn't... the actual writing. So... I guess we'll see how this goes?

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E123 (Feb. 2, 2021)
After last week’s thoroughly relaxing and brief episode, tonight’s guests are Sam Riegel and Liam O’Brien!
Brian, to Sam: “You look like Tim Curry moved to Nantucket to become a sommelier.”
How did Caleb and Veth approach the ally-ship with the Tombtakers? Sam: “I mean, we got some information, and I think we got a little closer to Lucien and knowing whether he has any of Mollymauk inside of him, which is I think the most important knowledge that we’re seeking right now. Is there someone to be saved inside there? We got glimpses, and we got a little hint that Mollymauk is maybe still in there? Maybe? And we got a little more insight into their plans, so that was useful.” Liam: “We know why we were having that fucking dream.” Sam: “But other than that, it was just a road trip with assholes.” Liam: “All our plans have been ripped in a new direction, and it’s just been improvisation.” Sam notes that it feels like we’re always about to rip into Caleb’s backstory, but haven’t yet followed that thread all the way through. Liam: “It’s partially frustrating, to be sure, but also I like the idea that-- his whole shit has been selfish, it’s been dealing with the trauma that he’s been through and not the greater world, and that’s been shifting somewhat.”
Does Caleb think the book was worth it, and is he still interested in reading more? Sam: “How do you ask Caleb not to read a book?” Liam: “Caleb has spent enough time with the Nein to know you shouldn’t put a hand on a hot stove. After what happened with the book, he knows it’s a terrible idea. But maybe. But it’s a really bad idea. But reserve judgment, but it’s a really terrible idea. I think that Caleb is very aware that mages and people like him very easily fall prey to their curiosity and it can lead to bad places. But there is still that amount of scientific endeavor where you think there is value in knowing and learning, and maybe we can ride that line. He was True Neutral at the start of the campaign, and maybe he’s Chaotic Good now, but part of him is hubris, even if it’s a little bit, still.”
What about Otis has drawn Veth’s focus? Sam: “I mean, he’s a little shit. She was curious about Otis because he’s a small like she is, and in talking to him, he seemed to be real creepy, but he was just creepy and distant and didn’t value his past or family or anything like that. She sees someone who’s like her, but so not like her, and maybe that scares her a little bit more.”
How does Caleb feel about Beau being on this ride with him? Liam: “The dream is another example of how Caleb had very narrow vision of the things he wanted to do. It used to seem so massive to him, but now... To have Beauregard involved feels right. If anyone in the group is going to stop him from grabbing something he shouldn’t, it is probably Beauregard. She’ll punch him in the fucking face to stop him, which I think he needs, to a certain extent. They’re two different kinds of nerds, and I kind of like that, that this group of nine philosophers, they’ve reached out and somehow grabbed the two nerds in the party.”
How do Caleb and Veth see the Somnovum? Sam: “I mean, they seem real bad. Anything that’s a quorum of powerful entities heading towards your planet to unleash an energy of any kind, typically bad? I assume they’re bad, or at least the Tombtakers wish them to do ill.” Liam: “I think they want the kind of peace that comes from snapping your fingers and turning people to dust. Caleb sees them as a cautionary tale; they’re the worst-case scenario for arcane inquisitiveness.” He sees Allura Vysoren as the antidote to that.
Why the staunch refusal to use Halfling Luck? Sam: “I don’t like Luck! I just don’t like Luck. I think it’s cheap, I think it’s a cheat, I think it’s stupid. It just feels like a do-over.” Liam: “I am your antithesis! If I ever voice a halfling, I am going to hammer that feature!” Sam: “What I love about D&D is that you don’t know what’s going to happen. If you roll bad, okay, that’s it. If you roll well, it makes the success more enjoyable to know that it’s a pure success and don’t one where you’re like well actually... it’s so stupid. If someone was about to die, I would probably use the fuckin’ Luck feature. Well. It depends who. If it was Travis, yeah, no, he’s fucked, sorry.”
Liam drops that he’s picked Sam’s character class and race again for a hypothetical campaign three. Sam: “It’s not what I was thinking for future characters, but I’m excited to explore.”
Cosplay of the Week: an amazing Mollymauk by KatofValkyrie!
What was it like to bring the Tombtakers into the tower? Liam: “It is complicated, because he does not like him. Lucien’s just a fucking dick. But Caleb also knows that Molly’s in there somewhere. That tower’s only for the M9, and Lucien’s not in the M9. Their situation with these people is shitty, it’s terrible. Caleb doesn’t feel like they have the upper hand. He doesn’t like that they’re even going on this journey per se, because life is bigger than his bullshit. He feels like they’ve been losing over and over again, so it was a gamble to try to get on equal footing.
What spurred Veth into making sure she and Yasha have some one-on-one time? Sam: “Yasha hasn’t been getting a lot of moments to shine. Now that she’s back, I just got the impression that Yasha feels out of place sometimes, or timid, or unsure of herself. When Veth was Nott, Nott certainly had her share of those moments. I think she sees a kindred spirit and wants to make sure that she’s been giving all the opportunity she can to flourish and thrive. Dani, you’re just laughing at my mustache, aren’t you?” Dani: “Yes, that’s the only thing I’m laughing at through this whole bullshit.” Sam denies all knowledge of trolling, but eventually admits, on the topic of Yasha and Beau getting together: “They’ve made me wait this long... I’m going to make them wait a little bit longer!”
What was it like to show his friends the upper floors? Liam: “I kinda expected somebody to sneak up there before that. That being part of the tower is not even a conscious choice of his, it just is. The reason Caduceus has creeped Caleb out for a long time is because he talks about how-- Caduceus is a really kind person and wants Caleb to let go of the past. And in a really simplistic way, turn that frown upside-down. And that’s just not who Caleb is, and it’s not who everybody is. There is something to be said for trying to stay open and positivity, but thinking you can shut out the past, especially a traumatic one, is just not true. When things happen to us, we carry them. But to candy-coat it and say, ah, I’m free, or everything is good, or I’ve turned the corner... life is way messier than that. It’s not flipping a switch, it’s not bad-to-good, it is such a work in progress. Even when you make strides and start to get to a better place, you can backslide a lot. So the tower is who he is, and the tower is 7/9ths love for his friends, and 1/9th hope, but there’s still a percentage of him that carries everything from the past, and knows that he should, and knows that he should not go back to where he was. And the way to do that is not to say everything is rainbows, but to remember it. The tower is just like an extension of who he is. He’s never going to forget the past, and he’s never going to be like, I’m good, or I’ve turned a corner. He should remember the past, and he should do better, always.”
Does Veth still believe it’s possible to get Molly back? Sam: “Well, she was a person trapped in another body for many years, so has some experience there, and definitely believes that the spirit and soul of Molly is in there and just needs to be unlocked somehow.”
Fan Art of the Week: an amazing group shot by HarpySN!
How are Caleb and Veth dealing with their guilt and fear about being in the middle of this? Sam: “It definitely was a deep conversation that might have repercussions going forward. The problem with all of what we’re doing now is that we don’t have time to deal with our petty problems anymore. It’s all high tension all the time!” Liam: “It’s true; they’re not in control of their situation at all anymore.” Sam: “It’s good to have these check-ins, but it’s not like we can do anything about them. We’re reactive right now.” Liam: “He’s not happy with where they are, but they wouldn’t even be this far if the goblin hadn’t pulled him out of the mud. So part of it is, you saved me from where I was and got me on my feet again, and now it’s disconcerting to see it all just get knocked sideways by something he never could’ve predicted. I think Caleb felt nostalgic for when things were simpler, in a way, for them, when we’re both troubled drifters.”
What was it like to see Gelidon’s return? Liam: “I am the least superstitious person at the table. Ashley’s dice suck.” Sam: “It was fun fighting a dragon!” Liam: “Two massive battles in one episode, neither of which came away with a victory. I guess surviving is a victory.” Sam: “I’d forgotten about the dragon, honestly.” Liam: “I loved it. I was so upset at the idea that we were going to stealth and not get into it.”Sam: “Mercer doesn’t keep a live dragon around and not do something with it. That dragon’s coming back.”
How do Caleb and Veth feel about going to see Essek? Sam: “He can be very helpful, I believe, but as Sam Riegel, a player of D&D, I’m super suspicious. What the fuck is Essek doing up there, so close, now? I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. And I can throw him pretty far because he floats.” Liam: “I 100% agree with you. I do not understand what Essek could bring to what we are going through. I know the audience loves him, I love him too. He’s a really cool character. But he’s fucking toxic. He out of curiosity caused a war between two nations. And Caleb has been changed for the good by the M9 from months of travel with them. Essek has had none of that. Caleb has changed for the good, but not because of people like Essek. Essek is where Caleb came from. We kept the lid on the pot during the whole treaty at sea and it almost all went fucking sideways, and only because we pressed him into a corner. I hope that guy finds some sort of balance and peace for himself, but I do not see how his input here would be helpful. There’s other heavy hitters that I would try to pull in.”
Liam notes that the Cloven Crystal is in the Bag of Holding. Sam: “Do I have Fluffernutter, or is Fluffernutter gone?” Liam: “Nope. 300 pounds of fireworks? Gone. A dead mage, a threshold crest, and fireworks.” Dani: “Your basic essentials.”

“I’m not sure how to feel about this card but Jon Jones vs Dom Reyes is great shit.” UFC 247 Preview
Joey
Feb 2nd
The UFC rolls into Houston, Texas for a very STRANGE card. It's had some injuries and pull outs that changed around its dynamic (imagine this show if Jimmie River vs Marlon Vera and OSP vs Ryan Spann) but it's got the bare minimum which is two title fights followed up by an underdcard with big dudes on it. That's basically all  I ask for. It's definitely not the UFC's best offering but when you consider that they lost three good fights and had a PPV come up at the last minute? I've seen worse. I guess. Jon Jones vs Dominick Reyes and Valentina Shevchenko vs Kaitlyn Chookagian are basically your drawing cards anyways.
2020 Stat-O-Matic:
Debuting Fighters (2-2): Youssef Zalal, Austin Lingo, Kalinn Williams Main Event Exemption:
Short Notice Fighters (1-1): Kalinn Williams Main Event Exemption:
Second Fight (1-1): Antonio Arroyo, Journey Newsom, Domingo Pilarte, Miles Johns, Justin Tafa Main Event Exemption: Vs Debutantes:
Cage Corrosion (Fighters who have not fought within a year of the date of the fight) (5-0):   Main Event Exemption (1-0):
Undefeated Fighters (2-1):  Dominick Reyes, Miles Johns, Austin Lingo Main Event Exemption: Dominick Reyes
Fighters with at least four fights in the UFC with 0 wins over competition still in the organization (1-1): Trevin Giles Main Event Exemption:
Weight Class Jumpers (Fighters competing outside of the weight class of their last fight even if they’re returning BACK to their “normal weight class”) (1-1): Ilir Latifi Main Event Exemption ():
Twelve Precarious Ponderings
1- When @theanticool  and @cerealsensei   says something, I feel compelled to listen because if he's not right, he's able to put things together in a logical enough sense that it makes me consider things. So when both say that they think the end of the Jon Jones reign at 205 lbs is coming to an end, I feel compelled to consider it. It's hard to really judge just what Jon Jones is and we're entering Anderson Silva territory where Jones is the world's most blasse unbeatable fighter ever. He's in that pre-Chael Sonnen phase where Anderson just sleptwalked through fights and struggled to amuse himself for five rounds of blegh. So is Jones about to prove some mortality? I kinda don't know. The three guys to come close to giving Jones an L was a super athletic and long limbed Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier in both their first and second fight (fights he still lost decisively) and the Thiago Santos fight where Jones just...sort of fought. The right people are telling me Jones is vulnerable----but I'm just not seeing it. Perhaps I'll believe it WHEN I see it and perhaps Reyes is the dude to bring that out.
2- So what does Reyes do well? For starters, it's hard to think of a fighter Jones has faced in a bit who possesses genuine stopping power with his hands. Anthony Smith hits pretty damn hard but he's more of a master of accumulation, Thiago Santos can wipe dudes out with his legs but really only has one serious finish with his hands (Jan Blachowicz) while DC's punching power seems to come and go depending upon the situation. Gus has tremendous hand speed but his finishes in the UFC were mostly against the likes of guys like Jimi Manuwa and five rounds worth of abuse vs old man Teix. Reyes has power and if nothing else, that'll give him a shot to do things in those brief moments where Jones' defense lapses and his chin is out there to be touched. Also I've seen Reyes have to adjust gameplans and make a swap up as he did vs Volkan Oezdemir, even if you can debate whether it was enough to WIN the fight. Lastly? Reyes is well rounded enough as a wrestler, striker and grappler that he's not as one dimensional as some of Jones' other opponents and he's not broken down like Gus was. Also don't forget that Reyes is a young 30 years old and not with over 30+ fights like Anthony Smith and he's a natural LHW.
3- I wonder if Jones will feel more motivated to get as finish in this one given how much flak he took by not finishing a guy with torn ACLs in both legs?
4- What does the UFC want more; a Jones win to get him to move up to HW for a big summer show run OR a Reyes win to finally have a sellable rematch for Jones that doesn't involve the retiring Daniel Cormier?
5- Is a finish like the one that Valentina Shevchenko got vs Jessica Eye actually a bad thing? If you go through Shevchenko's UFC history; you've got a lot of pretty damn boring five round fights with the occasional "holy shit" finish. The Jessica Eye finish is the Holy Shit-iest of the Holy Shit finishes----but in the process, it created this somewhat unfair expectation that Shevchenko is capable of doping that all the time. She may be capable of that but she rarely if ever takes that risk. Part of it has to do with the fact that most women are so petrified of getting what Jessica Eye got that they wind up hanging out away from the firing range, opening the door for Shevchenko to leg kick with an occasional takedown on the back end to control women. It creates for boring ass fights but would we be more willing to accept a boring fight if we didn't know she was capable of highlight reel finishes as well?
6- Chookagian tends to be a hyperactive striker so chances are Val is going to take her down and finish her BUT Shevchenko is prone to bouts of inactivity mid round and so I wonder if Katlyn Chookagian has the capacity to steal a few rounds just by doing stuff when Valentina isn't doing anything.
7- Fair to say Mirsad Bektic is just going to be a top 10 filler name and not a real contender any time soon? He draws rising MMA manager and pro fighter Dan Ige on the main card.
8-  A lot of people griping about HWs on the main card but this is a sport of size and the BIG BOYZ are here to throw fisticuffs!
9- What's Ilir Latifi's plan in the move up to HW? Is the goal to stop cutting weight and hope his sledgehammer power is able to travel with improved cardio on the back end?
10- Keep an eye on Miles Johns vs Mario Bautista. Got potential to be a wild scramble fight with subs aplenty.
11- Journey Newson had a pretty impressive debut as he overcome a really rough start to give Ricardo Ramos some trouble with his pressure game, length and boxing down the stretch of a loss on short notice. He draws Domingo Pilarte on the prelims and Pilarte is a wild fighter at 135 lbs who is coming off a disputed decision loss in HIS debut. Should be a really great fight on the ESPN+ portion of the prelims.
12- Do we pencil in Alex Morono for a bonus of some kind already?

I'VE BEEN PONDERING PG
It's very common for startups to present to them. Do people live downtown, or have some sort of exit. There is less stress in total, but more as an exploration of gender and sexuality in an urban context, etc.1 I think the goal of this rule; if you can't explain your plans concisely, you don't worry that it might come out badly, or upset delicate social balances, or that can incorporate live data feeds, or that you won't be demoralized if they seem pointless.2 One YC founder told me that it wasn't worth investing in. The patent pledge doesn't fix every problem with patents.3 I can tell from the case. This site isn't lame. They wouldn't all grow as big. It will be easier in proportion to an estimate of your company's value that you'd both agreed upon.
Then you could, I don't care what he says, I'm going to name them: type A fundraising is when you can do, you don't see the opportunities all around us is that we get on average only about 5-7% of a much larger number.4 In most fields the great work is: very exacting taste, plus the ability to direct the course of adding some feature they were asking for.5 Most hackers are employees, and this trick merely forces you to clean up your apartment, writing something that you'll be able to say whether he should be classified as a friend or angel.6 Don't say anything unless you're fairly sure what you want to reach; from paragraph to paragraph I let the ideas take their course. Sometimes a competitor will deliberately threaten you with a business background, and he will automatically get paid proportionally more. Not all of them had never seen the Web before we came to tell them to stop.7 If you're free of a misconception that everyone else is crazy. Most startups that raise money and the kind of alarms you'd set off if you operate like Columbus and just head in a general westerly direction.
As we were in the old sense of managing the round. Technology is a lever. Modern literature is important, but I suspect that most of them a part time job. In the Bay Area would be the answer. But let someone else start those startups. They're not necessarily trying to mislead you. Like a lot of people will make them.
But if you make something they like. 05 PM subject: Re: Revenge of the Nerds on the LL1 mailing list.8 American universities currently seem to be a media company to throw Microsoft off their scent. Java white paper, Gosling explicitly says Java was designed to be a missile aimed right at what makes America successful.9 Different users have different requirements, but I don't think that's the right way to do it. But this is merely an artifact of the rule of law.10 All you'll learn is the words kids are allowed to use. That's the way to the close.11 It did serve some purposes: reading a talk out loud can expose awkward parts. What investors still don't get is what insanely great translates to in a larval startup.
When I talk about humans being meant or designed to live a certain way out of habit or politeness. Hackers & Painters that hadn't been online. Incidentally, the switch in the 1920s to financing growth with retained earnings till the 1920s.12 And the programmers liked it because they don't like to have it. What counts as property depends on what works to treat as property. But this is wrong. What's a prostitute?13 Everyone by now presumably knows about the danger of premature optimization. Essentially, they lead you on. That will change the way they treat the music they sell through iTunes.14
So tablet makers should be thinking: what else can we give developers access to? White said, good writing is rewriting, wrote E. Almost four decades later, fragmentation is still increasing. The more people you have to do it than literally making a mark on the world. Investors looked at Yahoo's earnings and said to one of the principles they teach you is to align the car not by lining up the hood with the stripes painted on the road, but by trying to use mass lawsuits against randomly chosen people as a form of evolutionary pressure. People think that what you want. In principle anyone there ought to have multiple founders who were already friends before they decided to build recipe sites, or aggregators for local events.
Better Bayesian Filtering. They may play some behind the scenes as adults spin the world for a while, can make visual perception flow in through his eye and out through his hand as automatically as someone tapping his foot to a beat. If you looked in people's heads. They are all fundamentally subversive for this reason. I sat down and calculated what I thought was hard, the groups all turned out ok. Election forecasters are proud when they can get it, at this stage.15 The danger of symmetry, and repetition especially, is where the richest buyers are, but figure out precisely where you lose them. If they didn't know what language our software was so complex. 2:21 AM subject: Re: meet the airbeds PG, Thanks for the lead Fred to: Fred Wilson date: Mon, Feb 9,2009 at 11:42 AM subject: Re: airbnb There's a lot to start a startup. And yet they can hold their own with any work of art ever made.
Leonardo?16 It is, as far as possible prevent them from having fun. Doesn't that show people will pay most for?17 After thinking about it than most, but almost everywhere the trend is in that direction. Till then they had to ask permission to release software: the last thing you changed. But fortunately in the US are more conservative than Boston ones.18 People are all you need is to be battered by circumstances—to let the days rush by. But that's something you can fix later, but you can't evade the fundamental conservation law. And yet Apple's overall market share is still small. Though the Web has been around for a millennium is finished just because of its prestige, but because they were ambivalent about threatening their cash cow, mainframe computing. I mean efforts to protect against cosmic rays.19
Notes
Even as late as 1984. Incidentally, Google may appear to be at a large company? Plus one can have escaped alive, or to be good?
To do this all the poorer countries. Ed. But it was the least correlation between the Daddy Model may be a sufficient condition.
And in World War II to the rise of big companies can afford that. And while this is to try to be a win to include in your classes as a result a lot more frightening in those days, but I call it procrastination when someone gets drunk instead of happy. I'm talking mainly about software startups are now the first digital computer game, you can probably write a subroutine to do would be better at opening it than people who might be a good problem to fit your solution. Look at those goddamn fleas, jabbering about some disease they'll see once in China, during the war on drugs show, bans often do better, and instead of the world of the most famous example.
Plus one can ever say it again. When I catch egregiously linkjacked posts I replace the actual amount of damage to the founders' advantage if it was 94% 33 of 35 companies that can't reasonably expect to make a fortune in the case, not because Delicious users are stupid.
But you're not allowed to discriminate on any basis you want to get going, and oversupply of educated ones come up with elaborate rationalizations. I also skipped San Jose is a meaningful idea for human audiences. Though in fact had its own mind about whether a suit would violate the patent pledge, it's not enough to defend their interests in political and legal disputes.
What Is an Asset Price Bubble? This doesn't mean easy, of the river among the bear gardens and whorehouses. They act as if you'd just thought of them could as accurately be called acting Japanese. Many more than 20 years.
It's hard for us!
2%. If a prestigious VC makes a small proportion of the things you're taught.
Doing things that don't scale.
Now the misunderstood artist is not limited to startups. There's not much use, because few founders are willing to provide when it's done as conspicuously as this place was a false positive rate is 10%, moving to Monaco would only give you more than the previous round. Cascading menus would also be good startup founders tend to get going, e.
Emmett Shear writes: True, Gore won the popular vote he would presumably have got more of the flock, or at least, the government and construction companies. People only tend to damp this effect, at least guesses by pros about where that money comes from ads on other investors doing so because otherwise competitors would take forever in the case of heirs, professors, politicians, and everyone's used to place orders.
His critical invention was a kid that you'd want to sell them technology. I'm not dissing these people make the people working for startups, because it aggregates data from so many trade publications nominally have a lot of reasons American car companies have little to bring corporate bonds to market faster; the point where things start with consumer electronics and to run on the firm's site, they're nice to you. Not only do they decide on the young Henry VIII and was troubled by debts all his life. Distribution of potentially good startups, who've already made the decision.
Maybe that isn't really working bad unit economics, typically and then scale it up because they couldn't afford it. An investor who's seriously interested will already be working to help a society generally is to let yourself feel it mid-sentence, but you get an intro to a clueless audience like that.
But it is dishonest of the country turned its back on industrialization at the start, e.
The need has to be employees, or editions with the buyer's picture on the back of Yahoo, we actively sought out people who'd failed out of the things attributed to Confucius and Socrates resemble their actual opinions. The speed at which point it suddenly stops. And when a startup to engage with slow-moving organizations is to write every component yourself, but also very informative essay about why something isn't the last step in this essay I'm talking here about everyday tagging. If not, greater accessibility.
In 1525 he was made a bet: if you hadn't written it? I saw this I used thresholds of.
Especially if they were to work your way up. I managed to find a broad range of topics, comparable in scope to our scholarship though without the spur of poverty are only locally accurate, because those are probably the last step in this respect.
So how do you use that instead of Windows NT? How did individuals accumulate large fortunes in an absolute sense, if you make something hackers use. On the face of it.
But it's telling that it would be to say that it had no idea what's happening as merely not-doing-work. But they've been trained. So far, I preferred to call them whitelists because it depends on a weekend and sit alone and think.

Hi Yui! This may not be your typical ask - but I would love to know more about the education system in Austria and how welcoming they are to foreigners? I have a huge desire to study abroad there and I am just seeking first-hand experience (even if you are native)
Hey Anon! This is actually a very good question, and I will do my best to explain it to you! (I am not a Native, btw, but I have been enjoying Austrian education since primary school, so almost native ;-))I assume you are talking about university (feel free to send another ask if this isn't what you were asking for), but I will not be talking about private institutions because I don't know much them. First, I will introduce the kinds of universities we have, followed by the admission requirements, fees (and stipends/benefits)  and the atmosphere (tolerance, culture, image, etc.) Thia is going to be a looooong post...
There are two kinds of institutions considered as universities: the actual universities/UNI (23 public, 19 private) and what's known as the "University of Applied Sciences" (UAS) (about 20 of them) Both offer BA and MA degrees (or the equivalent), but UAS do not offer doctor/PhD programmes.
UNIs have more freedom in regards to classes: you make your own timetable by choosing what classes you want to do at what time and in what pace. Of course, there is a certain amount of credits and courses needed for a degree, and some need to be taken first or require other exams to get in. You are also allowed to enroll at more than one university (like me!) if you want. It can get a little hectic, but some people just want to study Linguistics AND Architecture. *shrug*Though the system is very flexible, those who work full-time will definitely have difficulty to attend class. Part-time workers who work less than 25 hours a week will have to plan very carefully to keep up with those who study full time, but it is possible.
UAS offer programs that are tailored for certain careers, and function like schools: you get a timetable, do projects, exams, and internships. They do offer programmes designed for part-time or full-time workers, but full-time (student) programmes offer little flexibility. Enrolling at more than one UAS is logistically almost impossible...and not really necessary.
As for admission, the following are always required (for international students):
Proof of your nationality (passport photocopy, in colour!)
a secondary school leaving certificate or an equivalent that would allow you to study at a university/college in your home country
If you are from a non-EU/EAA country: A certificate which proves that you are allowed to study at a university (this may vary from uni to uni, please email the students office for details! )
Proof of your German language proficiency (either at least 4 years of regular German lesson or level B2 or the equivalent, music schools are usually content with B1)After you contacted the students office (always do that if you are unsure) and your documents are alright, there will be an entrance exam (but not for all programs. I can't name it here bc post is getting too long, but just throw an ask!) They can be part online (motivation letter) and part (or fully) written / oral. Usually, they take place during Jun/Jul/Sept for winter semester, or Jan/Feb for summer semester (may vary!) The scores are ranked and the best get in.
Now we get to the fees. As of December 2017, non-EU/EAA students have to pay a tuition fee of 726.72€ per semester, and a 19.20€ fee for the student organization (everyone has to pay that, even if you're not required to pay tuition fees). A permanent waiver of tuition fees applies to students of several least developed countries, poke me for a link to the list.
You can also apply for stipends (but not for benefits), requirements vary, but normally, you get around 700 - 1500 € (min. and max. respectively) per semester (usually around 1000€, speaking from experience)
Now, the question concerning the acceptance of international students in Austria. Let me say that the majority doesn't really care where you are from except Germany (lol just joking) The students are very tolerant and happy to see something else. Austria is a country with all kinds of nationalities and cultures, after all. While the current less-middle-more-right coalition worries me... You won't get harassed on the street and kicked out of shops because of your nationality. It’s safe here (despite the annoying nationalist parties) for most of the time.Older Austrian people can appear as rude and grumpy, but they are not coldhearted, it’s just their way of being, uh, friendly. The younger generation will most likely bombard you with questions or/and treat you like a normal fellow student. we don’t bite ^.^Just know that there are good and people everywhere ^-^
Experience: Uh, I don’t know? There are a lot of student discounts? Depending on the size of the university, it might be hard to make friends at first. Everyone will have a different schedule planned, so it’s hard in the beginning. (#studygroups!) I am bad at describing my experience except for saying “good” or “less than pleasant” or “brilliant”, so the questions have to be a bit more specific...
I hope I could answer your question! If note, poke me ^-^(but come to us, we have good chocolate and coffee and cake!)Have a good day, everyone!

end of the year fic meme
total number of completed stories: 5 total word count: 51225
Overall Thoughts Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? I wrote way more than I predicted bc I never thought I’d produce fic at all, but I actually published a oneshot or chapter at least once a month since june. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I would’ve never guessed I would become 100% certified jinkook trash this yr and would’ve laughed in your face if you told me otherwise lmao. I didn’t even know who jungkook was until feb!! in fact despite always having a soft spot for bts and following all of their music releases I was like actually ‘I don’t think I’ll ever truly stan them’ lmfao. my life is a joke. What’s your own favorite story of the year? forever yours. it’s basically everything I ever want to happen in a fic. seokjin as an academy award winning actor? jinkook writing a song together? jinkook going on cute dates and continually supporting the other as they fall deeper in love? ugh my heart. the idea is so dear to me and it’s my baby. and even tho bangtan disbanded in the fic, they all found their own success and they’re rly close friends. I fucking love the ending too omg. I did my best to make it rly gratifying and make up for all the stuff jungkook went through earlier. plus I love fics based on idol/band verse, canon/divergence/future fic and I liked weaving in canon elements to it. it makes it feel more real imo.
Did you take any writing risks this year? uh, not rly? other than writing and publishing my first fic ever. and I guess actually shading big hit/bang pd lmao. as far as I know of, no one has done that before? and multiple ppl have called me brave for doing so lol. Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
to try to write longer fics I guess. there’s this 10k fic I’ve been planning forever but still haven’t gotten around to even tho I kept meaning to write it next lol.
From my past year of writing what was… My best story of this year: definitely forever yours. honestly sometimes I feel like it’s my peak lmfao. like I will never able to match some of those descriptions ever again. whenever I’m struggling to write something and I go back to it I’m like HOW DID I WRITE THIS?? and when ppl tell me I’ve made them cry and laugh omg. I almost don’t believe it. I don’t think any of my fics have elicited such a reaction and I think it’s the one that affected me most. I hurt my own non existent heart. My most popular story of this year: forever yours lmao. not only does it have the most hits/kudos/comment/bookmarks, but it’s the fic I most often see ppl reccing, screaming about, and quoting on twitter. I love it tho. pls continue screaming about it and @ me!! The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: lights go on again. it’s gotten the least attention of all my fics so far. idk if it’s bc ppl are sick of me already or if I rly offended that many ppl by insulting their precious bang pd oppa lmao. also yo where all the jin stans at? I thought at least they’d appreciate its contents lmao.
but also rollin’ the deep bc I actually like that one a lot now and it’s the second least popular lol. but it’s on par with light me up and I expected that based on the content. ofc the fics with jin winning an oscar and shitting on the mother/son trope would gain the most traction so I’m not surprised. The most fun story to write:
us against the world! the idea of everyone hitting on jin and jungkook getting jealous was too good to pass up. I had so much fun writing taehyung’s scene omfg. I actually started it with it lmfao and it seems like most ppl agree. hoseok’s always makes me laugh and ngl I feel like a genius whenever I reread that fic lol. :’) definitely my peak humor and probably the funniest/crackiest thing I’ll ever write.
Story with single sweetest moment?
it’s a tie with forever yours’ birthday scene and light me up’s christmas decorations. but overall rollin’ the deep made me melt the most with how overwhelming sweet it was. I live for soft sweet jinkook doing grossly romantic things for each other ok. The story with the single sexiest moment:
jungkook wearing lingerie in light me up, definitely :x tho the smut scene in forever yours is infinitely better imo. I will unfortunately never able to write a smut scene that good again but I think it’s the intimacy of the moment and the way it’s written that makes it so special, hence why I like it so much. The most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
idk? me attempting smut even tho I’m terrible at it? quoting myself I actually said “writing sex is honestly so hard already I would never waste my time writing it just for the sake of it if it didn’t have any meaning” yet the smut in light me up was the first scene I started writing. I am a goddamn hypocrite lol. but it’s sth I thought I’d never be able to write bc a few years ago I would get so embarrassed by the idea and would want to throw myself off a cliff at the thought lol. The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
none of them rly. I just write jinkook like I how see them. their interactions just come so naturally to me that it’s one of the easiest and most fun things to write in my fics. The hardest story to write: honestly… light me up. all my fics get rly hard to write one point and I always start off hating the first drafts bc they’re complete garbage but I fucking suffered the most writing that one. literally took fucking forever to wrangle the sex scene into what it was. it was hot ass fragmented mess that I had to slowly unravel and reorganize one sentence at a time. I didn’t even want to look at it bc it was so bad lol. and two of the most pivotal points; the lights  and lingerie were awful at first so I struggled to make them good enough to rly stand out and to a standard I was pleased with. and transitioning the first scene into the second one where jinkook kiss under the snowfall and the ending were fucking hell too. you can ask kaleidotears, I was bitching to her the entire time lmao. albeit vaguely bc I didn’t want to spoil anything. I started a month in advance bc it usually takes me that long to produce something and as the date approached closer I was lowkey panicking and almost thought I wouldn’t make it lol. The biggest disappointment:
lights go on again. not only is the reception lackluster compared to my other fics, but it’s honestly the weakest thing I’ve written so far. I’m seriously considering orphaning it but idk :( The biggest surprise: idk. I was honestly fucking shellshocked when us against the world got over 1000 hits in less than 24 hrs tho. I never expected that kind of reaction, especially for my very first ever fic. I honestly thought no one would want to read my fics lol. but also when ppl say I’m their favorite or one of their favorite authors?? like in what in the hell. I consider myself an amateur bc I have never written consistently before in my life. I’m new to the whole fic writing scene. I’ve actually spent the majority of my life hating my writing lmao. or when ppl praise things I think I’m shit at lol. I also like rollin’ in the deep a lot more than I thought I would considering it was just a dumb fluff piece to satisfy my thirst. I wrote the first 1300 words in a waiting room and I was like I don’t have to make this perfect bc it’s stupid fluff but I legit melted writing it. oh and publishing the first chapter of forever yours in two weeks after my first fic. how in the hell did I ever write 9k that quickly I will unfortunately never able to do that again.
The most unintentionally telling story:
I’m not sure what this even means? a lot of myself does bleed into my stories I think. like even if the mood varies depending on the scene I feel like my voice carries through? they just sound like me and it’s something that can’t be repicated lol. like my fics have a shit ton of cussing which is part of it lmao. but also sometimes I give jinkook aspects of myself like seokjin doing aegyo and being clingy when drunk (which is actually real omfg I’m a genius sorry) and jungkook not realizing when other ppl like him. also by reading my fics you can tell which groups I stan, what foods I like, etc. and ofc when I start waxing poetic about their looks or voices or talents that’s all me lol. Highlights + Wrap-up Favorite Opening Line(s): “And the Academy Award for Best Actor goes to… Kim Seokjin!” — forever yours; ch1 twenty four
The world is fucking taunting Jungkook.— forever yours; ch2 fiction
Jungkook feels sick. Bile mounts up his throat; it tastes like bitterness, hurt, betrayal, anger, resentment, and heartbreak, flowing through him in chaotic discord. His voice breaks underneath the staggering weight. — forever yours; ch3 smile, again
they’re all from forever yours lmao. the first one is for very obvious reasons but the other two I find the most riveting. I tend to start my fics with dialogue or with “seokjin/jungkook …” bc I’m so creative lol Favorite Closing Line(s): they lose themselves in each other until the world fades till there’s nothing but seokjin and jungkook, just their mouths and bodies and hearts uniting into one against the world. — us against the world
I’m forever yours. — forever yours
I like connecting the endings to my titles clearly lmao. but those endings are the strongest and the ones  I’m most proud of. the other ones are all kind of similar and end with jinkook in a bed saying I love you haha. Favorite 5 10 Lines from Anywhere:
it’s relatively quiet outside and the weather is beautiful; the clear, azure skies provide an obstructed pathway for the gleaming sunshine to burn the foliage in a palette of fiery crimsons, rich golds, and vibrant oranges. the oppressive summer heat has finally faded into a cool, refreshing breeze with the advent of autumn. seokjin tugs jungkook into his side for a surge of warmth as they amble towards the car, the crisp air nipping at their skin, rustling through his bunny ears, and fallen leaves crunching beneath their feet. — rollin’ in the deep
Snowfall blankets the landscape like an instagram filter, casting a creamy, dreamy lighting over the scenery. It looks like they stepped into a fairytale. — light me up
Jungkook hums sweetly, toying with the strands of hair behind Seokjin’s nape. The melody is so soft and sweet like a souffle that Seokjin wants to devour it—so he does, capturing Jungkook’s lips and licking the inside of his mouth. — light me up
The parade marches through as they eat, a symphony of prismatic floats and musical instruments decorating Main Street with whimsy. Seokjin sways alongside the music and Jungkook joins him, their bubbling giggles adding another layer of sound to the percussion. — forever yours
Seokjin is so beautiful but he’s never been more gorgeous than when his chiseled, naked body and pink strands glisten with sweat while thrusting deeply into Jungkook, dark eyes smouldering with lust and headiness, handsome face contorted in concentration intent on pleasuring Jungkook, and plush, pretty, pink mouth falling open as melodic sounds escape his lips, sweeter than his blessed high notes. It’s too much for Jungkook. — forever yours
“You’re gorgeous. My beautiful baby boy. Sweet marshmallow bunny.” — light me up
the bright white of the headband contrasts with his dark hair, haloing a soft crown of light around him, and coupled with the afterglow of his orgasm, he looks angelic. seokjin tells him as much and he flushes a pretty pink, a perfect complement to his ivory rabbit ears. — rollin’ in the deep
jungkook licks his lips as they stroll past a lone vendor selling hotteok, and when seokjin kisses him, cornering him in the enshrouding, secluded thicket of maple trees, seokjin tastes sweet like brown sugar, like cinnamon, like the warming comfort of fall spices and home-baked treats. — rollin’ in the deep
It’s empty this late at night, their only company being the summer breeze rustling through their clothes and the mild rippling of the waves. The water glitters beautifully underneath the stars in the darkness but it pales in comparison to the way the moonlight dances off Seokjin’s freshly dyed pastel hair to illuminate his gorgeous features. He looks magical, bright eyes sparkling and pink strands shimmering. — forever yours
The kiss is everything Jungkook dreamed and fantasized about but beyond his imagination. Seokjin tastes like coffee and chocolate and cream, their dessert lingering on his tongue, and Jungkook licks up every last morsel of flavor. He can’t get enough; Seokjin is so sweet and soft and warm against him like a freshly baked cake. He’s addicted. He wants more. — forever yours
also the iconic:
“Fuck PDogg hyung and Bang PD hyung” — forever yours
you know what this is too fucking hard. I’ll do a separate post with my top 5 lines from each fic. these are just 10 lines I’m particularly fond of and rly wanted to highlight bc no one else has.
Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:
1. JUNGKOOK WEARING LINGERIE AND BUNNY EARS but particularly the part with jungkook sitting on seokjin’s lap growling he’s sexy and seokjin laughing at him for being adorable. literally if my drawing skills were good enough and I had a tablet I would fucking illustrate this myself
2. seokjin gifting jungkook diamond studs on the balcony underneath fairy lights and the seoul night sky
3. jinkook kissing under the snowfall and surrounded by christmas lighting + decorations
4. jinkook holding hands while walking outside in the fall foliage and seokjin kissing jungkook in a thicket of maple trees
5. JINKOOK PERFORMING THEIR FUCKING DUET AT JUNGKOOK’S SOLO CONCERT
+ bonus sakura petals swirling around seokjin with seokjin cornering jungkook against a tree to swipe stray ice cream off his lips and licking it off his thumb and watching the fireworks at disneyland with seokjin’s head nestled onto jungkook’s shoulder and arms wrapped around his waist.
Fic-writing goals for 2018: to finally write the ideas on my ever growing list. my last three were completely unplanned and were random spur of the moments. but I wanted to write something for jin’s bday. I could’ve written something short from my list but I wanted to do christmas lights and jungkook in lingerie so :x also to take my sweetass time until I’m perfectly happy with everything before publishing and not rushing out fics anymore. I’ve learned that when I try to write something as fast as possible for others—it goes wholly unappreciated like the last chapter of forever yours and light me up. like half of the original commenters disappeared despite finally getting the happy ending they cried for and being so excited for the fic? lol idk what happened but there’s no way I could’ve messed up the last chapter that badly… but yeah it’s just not worth the stress lmao. ppl just don’t understand the effort, time, and pain it goes into producing something.

[So this is a response to the above post someone on facebook made].
[Original wording from “The List” is both dotted and bolded, my comments are italicized and preceded with a -- OH AND SHOCKING, I cite my goddamn sources]
Oct. 1, 2016: The New York Times and other media widely suggested or implied that Trump had not paid income taxes for 18 years. Later, tax return pages leaked to MSNBC ultimately showed that Trump actually paid a higher rate than Democrats Bernie Sanders and President Obama.
-- Not a lie. Based on what tax returns had been leaked. Trump had the business losses to negate years of taxes paid.
Feb. 14, 2017 TMZ reported Trump changed the name of “Black History Month” to “African American History Month,” implying the change was untoward or racist. In fact, Presidents Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton had all previously called Black History month “African American History” month.
-- TMZ not a news media organization. A tabloid.
Feb. 14, 2017: -- https://www.nytimes.com/.../james-comey-new-york-times...
-- And further investigations revealed, surprise, Trump's team did have repeated contacts with Russia:
https://www.nytimes.com/.../carter-page-fisa-warrant...
https://www.nytimes.com/.../jared-kushner-russia...
https://www.nytimes.com/.../roger-stone-trump-adviser...
June 4, 2017:  https://www.nbcnews.com/.../putin-interview-did-russia...
-- Uh you realize, NBC news themselves corrected that error right? Like the "claim" actually links back to the tweet from NBC News issuing the correction.
https://www.nbcnews.com/.../putin-interview-did-russia...
-- Sooo... the "fake" story here is that Trump's son had contact with Russia before the DNC hack. Not the fact that Trump's son, actually DID have contact with Russia -- after the DNC hack. You realize that's not any better right? You realize how that's still not any better right?
March 8, 2018: The New York Times’ Jan Rosen reported on a hypothetical family whose tax bill would rise nearly $4,000 under Trump’s tax plan. It turns out the calculations were off: the couple’s taxes would go actually go down $43; not up $4,000.
The TurboTax “What-If Worksheet” that generated the projection for their 2018 taxes failed to indicate that the couple would probably be entitled to claim a sizable deduction for income earned from consulting. As a result of that deduction, the amount they would likely owe on taxes would decline by $43, not rise by $3,896.
https://www.nytimes.com/.../how-to-fill-out-1040-form.html
-- Surprise! Wrong again!
-- Not only did the NYT correct this, but they also stated WHY, and the fault was in TurboTax's tax generator, AND TurboTax was the organization issuing the data and calculations.
May 28, 2018: “Correction: this link, which was going around this morning, is from 2014. Still disturbing, of course, but only indirectly related to the current situation,” Silverstein tweeted. “My bad (and a good reminder not to RT things while distracted w family on the weekend).”
-- Again, they actually corrected this error outright. Something I might add, Bongino doesn't tend to worry about. (How many corrections do you see on, oh, any of the articles they publish?
Jan 2018: New York Times, Vice and others reported on the “lost” immigrant children of the Trump administration. However, AP and other fact checks stated this was a misleading term. According to AP, the “lost” children were a matter of the government not being able to track them once placed with sponsors. In some
-- Sorry are they claiming that an opinion piece, one that even CLEARLY states:
"The editorial board represents the opinions of the board, its editor and the publisher. It is separate from the newsroom and the Op-Ed section."
As for actual news? One that's even in the big masthead ontop that says "OPINION"? And on VICE's addition to that, they flat out state they are not a "mainstream news source" Media-Bias fact check also rates them saying:
“They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes.  These sources are generally trustworthy for information but may require further investigation.”
Nonetheless, the NYT's editorial board is in fact, reporting actual news:
https://int.nyt.com/.../425f7ff96a5.../optimized/full.pdf...
Nov. 19, 2019: Agence France Press publishes a sensational story saying that more than 100,000 children are being held in migration-related detention in the U.S. under President Trump. It turns out that was the number in 2015 under President Obama. They retracted the story.
Yeah, it even states this. "They retracted the story".
Also again, AFP not a mainstream news media source.
Nov. 28, 2019: Newsweek falsely reports that President Trump is spending Thanksgiving golfing in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago resort. He was actually in Afghanistan serving dinner to U.S. troops
Ok first off Newsweek isn't (again) a mainstream media outlet. It hasn't been for ages. You can read an op-ed from one if it's former reporters here. Here is some highlights:
"In the last five years, Newsweek produced some strong journalism and plenty of clickbait before becoming a painful embarrassment to anyone who toiled there in its golden age."
“I’ve never seen more reckless leadership.” -- Matt Cooper
“Time to begin always making the distinction between our Real Newsweek of sainted memory and this shameful Fake Newsweek.” - Ed Kosner. Newsweek editor in the 1970's
Mind you those quotes are from the Atlantic, a moderately liberal biased news outlet, however, it's also pretty highly factual. Like pretty much all of the names on this list, and they do that nifty thing of issuing CORRECTIONS.
Something I might add again, BONGINO doesn't tend to worry about.
Again, I'm equally critical of, say, The Daily KOS, Alternet, Being Liberal, Blue State Daily, Daily Beast, and The Young Turks. That last one I'm even a fan of mind you. Mate Dusten Dussex and I had a debate over it not too long ago. I'm far from shying away from criticizing liberal alternative media -- even if I typically enjoy it. I also am a critic of and reader of The Wall Street Journal -- a fairly pro-corporate newspaper.
See I do this weird thing, where I change my views and stances based on new information, otherwise, hell I'd still be a Pentecostal, Tax Cut favoring, anti-LBGT+, anti-science, pro-Iraq War, conservative. Instead of an Evangelical, pro-science, pro-LBGT+, Democrat who ranges depending on the topic from moderately conservative, (taxes and spending, hell even drone use and healthcare I can find some agreements with the GOP on).
Cause at the end of the day, I don't really care if the idea is conservative or liberal. Just that it WORKS towards the objectives I want.
Hell, I even fully admit there are flaws in a single-payer healthcare system.
Surprise! Guess what we've also found plenty of flaws in a for-profit healthcare system. That doesn't mean I don't think our current system needs to be changed. Or that I won't fight like hell to protect gains made in the past decade.
However, I am willing to consider the fact that when you throw a rock into a pond it has ripple effects and you can rarely tell what all exactly they will be. Consider for example, yes Single-Payer is a great goal. However, I also know plenty of other things like high-paying jobs are in healthcare and retirement portfolios have plenty of for-profit healthcare stocks in them.
What I will not do, is shy away from criticizing media I myself consume if they seem to be lowering their standards based on an appeal for cash and clicks, or refuse to reevaluate my media intake if they fail to have high standards.

4. Pancreatitis is that awful ex you never want to see again
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancreatitis15 Feb 2018 - Finally Toby is cleared to start on doxorubicin. His nodes have been growing back again, even after vincristine and cyclophosphamide. in particular cyclo did not seem to have much effect.  It is Chinese New Year - Junie and I are in PJ with relatives for only 2 days 1 night, and Junie’s Mom has to take Toby to the vet. We made contingency plans in case Toby has a bad reaction and we have to fly back immediately.  Over the following week we note that nothing bad or outside the ordinary (reduced appetite for a couple of days, combined with bit of loose, tarry stools).  Doxo is known for cardiactoxicity and causing bone marrow suppression so we feared the worst. The side effects did not surface at this time. Toby is rested for one week from chemo as planned. His lymph nodes shrank substantially so the doxorubicin was very impactful 25 Feb - It’s a Sunday and we throw a party for close friends and relatives .. to enjoy mom’s homemade Peranakan dishes for Chinese New Year. Toby has a great day but he must have eaten something he shouldn't. We suspect one of the guests gave him some food. Junie had also fed him a few emu treats with flak seed oil..  More than the usual. He developed acute pancreatitis and could not sleep. He shivered all night and had diarrhoea 3 times. We felt for the first time that he could die .. it was so painful seeing him this way and we were tormented by the possibility of losing him
The next morning we rushed him to the vet at 930am at Barkway (because it was closest). They did a blood test and failed to pick up on pancreatitis. As they did not know what was wrong with Toby, we sent him to gentle oak vet afterwards where he was properly diagnosed and hospitalised for the day. Dr. Lee was visibly annoyed that the other vet failed to pick up on this. Toby continues to shiver through out, but we can’t tell if it’s from the pain, or the usual fear of being at the vet clinic 27 Feb - 1 Mar: Toby spends 3 straight full days at gentle oak on day hospitalisation basis where he gets painkillers, an IV drip with metronidazole, antacids, probiotics, Wei Ling San, immunity boosters, licorice and marshmallow. Doctor Lee said no more beef in the interim. All chicken breast and a bit of rice. Easy on digestion. I still gave him k9 immunity though to help boost his immunity. He loses about 10% of weight and goes from 8.3kg to 7.5 ish kg but actually looks healthier with much less bloat in his mid section (his spleen was affected by the cancer0, and is able to sleep at night without the shaking. Pancreatitis took a lot out of him as he didn’t eat at all in the first 2~3 days and was kept in a cage at the vet so his leg muscles weakened. By this time, i had started being a lot more conscious that Toby may not be with us forever. Whenever the opportunity arose i would work from home or leave from home a bit later than usual. Thank God for my understanding employers who’d let me make it up at my own terms. On May 3, basically a whole week after he had pancreatities, Toby was finally his usual self and able to play his “kick-kick game” with us in the morning. We were overjoyed. We reintroduce veggies into his meals again for the antioxidants. We continued giving his food and mixing it with digestive enzymes.  3-4 Mar - it’s the weekend ! Toby goes on walks at Bishan Park, Macpherson and Macritchie. He's in good spirits and is able to walk decently without signs of getting tired. He got a shower on Sunday afternoon and threw some crazy tantrums.
Tumblr media
This is Toby’s “come on, enough! i gotta go home now~~ and check on Junie!”
8 Mar - Toby’s in good spirits until he realises we’re headed to the vet. Neck nodes can’t be felt but popliteal nodes still there. About 1.5cm all round. Dr Lee did a CBC. Results came back good so she administered Vincristine on him right away. His RBC is good too. Immediately after Vincri he gets crazy angry and makes it difficult for Junie to drive him home (so usually Junie will bring someone along to keep him under control!). As usual. It’s a side effect. Dr.Lee says that Toby will go thru a whole cycle of CHOP again (Vincristine, Cyclo, vincri and Doxo, with pred..) Maybe after that we can depend on natural treatments, she said...  15 mar - Toby had a long 30 min cyclophosphamide drip administered. He looked tired and fell asleep in the car. But woke and started charging about the house room to room, and insisted on sitting on Junie's lap many times.
Tumblr media
16 mar - vacation time ! We did a one night staycation at the Capella and had a great time. Toby is off chasing peacocks. Things are really good... but the spectre of pancreatitis would haunt us again.
WHAT WOULD WE HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY
Acute pancreatitis can lead to chronic pancreatitis. What happened to Toby would be a precursor to things going wrong down the road.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancreatitis
Reduce the risk of pancreatitis as much as you can ie. No table scraps - day after thanksgiving in the US is not just black friday, but the day that vet clinics are busiest with pancreatitis cases!
Avoid fatty foods. But, if you are keen to put your dog on a ketogenic diet (high fat diet to induce ketosis which helps starve out cancer) be sure to use the right type of oils / fat and organ meats, and NOT over-do it in one single helping (gradually change the diet), and make sure that your doggo is made to go on walks to burn off excess glucose. Occasional fasting will also help to bring about / maintain ketosis.  Remember - your doggo doesn’t need all that food. it’s really the cancer you end up feeding.

21 Secret Truths About Successful Online Companies That Nobody Comprehends
There are a lot of false impressions concerning what it requires to run an effective online organisation. I discover that also experienced company owner commonly undervalue the time, power as well as ability it takes to truly do well online.
This article will certainly check out 21 "secret" truths that set successful online services aside from the rest. If you want to do well at developing your Private Cash Sites on-line realm. Make note.
1. They expand quickly.
While it's unusual that an on the internet organisation becomes an overnight success, it's equally as rare for it to take greater than a couple of years. This is specifically true in really affordable particular niches. If you're a year or 2 in as well as haven't grown in any way, it's probably time to reassess your business design.
2. They utilize amazing devices to save money and time.
I test you to find a solitary, successful online service that does not depend on at the very least 5-10 remarkable devices to run their service. As a matter of fact, I would certainly say that tools are an absolute requirement for every online organisation. From social media sites management tools to on-line invoicing devices, to team interaction devices, these are crucial to conserving you time and money as well as enhancing your efficiency.
3. Part of achieving success is knowing when to surrender.
I can detail a bunch of "never ever quit" prices estimate here, but that would just negate my factor. Successful online entrepreneur recognize that often you absolutely MUST cut your losses and also generally there will be something or somebody you need to quit on. It might be a strategy, a person or perhaps on an entire Private Cash Sites service endeavor.
A good general rule: if relied on consultants or colleagues are telling you it's time to quit on something, do yourself a support-- pay attention as well as consider what is being stated. You can't track every little thing.
4. They outsource. In some cases, A LOT.
Advertising magnate David Ogilvy famously stated, "Work with individuals far better than you are, then leave them to obtain on with it." The very same opts for contracting out. If you intend to remain competitive, contract out everything that a) does not come normally to you, as well as b) that you do not take pleasure in doing. This will release you up to concentrate on what you love, which is vital to lasting development.
5. Social media is their not-so-secret tool.
You can not run a successful online company without utilizing social media sites. Just over two years ago, Shareholic revealed that almost a third of all reference website traffic was from social media sites. I suspect this number is considerably higher today. If you're not making use of social media to reach brand-new consumers and also to connect with current ones, you don't stand a possibility.
6. They know that passive income is never completely passive.
Many individuals have this concept that running an online business permits you to work minimal hours while drinking a margarita on the beach. And also while it does provide you far more flexibility than a standard work, "passive income" is a little bit of a misnomer. Even if your organisation is very automated as well as can run mostly without your hands-on involvement, a lot of Private Cash Sites on the internet companies will certainly still need you to manage as well as handle the large photo jobs (which, admittedly, you can usually do while laying on the coastline).
7. They concentrate on the large picture.
Running an on the internet business isn't for everybody. If you tend to spend even more time on details than you do on establishing goals, making plans, trying to find fads, etc., running an on-line business may not be the path for you.
8. They know the value they provide - as well as bill as necessary.
You'll never compete long term by undervaluing your service or products. While it might be tempting originally to undercut the competition in order to make a name for yourself, it's often better to set prices that are sustainable for your service for the direct future.
9. They grow their list from the first day.
Email marketing is an important approach for all companies. But for on-line businesses, it's definitely essential. Research study is clear that e-mail advertising and marketing leads to boosted click-through prices, involvement, as well as sales. Actually, some study recommends email provides a higher ROI than any kind of various other advertising channel. Focus on developing your listing from the first day to see these advantages for your very own organisation.
10. They resolve an actual trouble.
Just like any kind of kind of organisation, locating a genuine requirement in your specific niche is essential. What problem or Private Cash Sites concern can you help solve? Does your product and services really resolve that problem? If not, what can you do to make that happen?
11. They distinguish themselves.
Simply exactly how big is the global e-commerce market? Some estimate that it's a trillion buck market spread among 12 million on the internet shops. Effective online local business owner understand the significance of separating themselves so they can actually claim their piece of the pie.
12. They comprehend the value of incredible material.
Material advertising isn't optional anymore, especially for on-line companies. If you're not producing a constant stream of pertinent, beneficial content, you don't have an opportunity of succeeding. Uncertain where to begin? Take a look at my thorough content advertising overview.
13. They go done in.
Some individuals believe they can construct an on-line realm in their extra time. They put most of their effort and time right into their 9-5 task, then adjust their company when they seem like it. Effective online companies are hardly ever developed by doing this. If you treat it like a leisure activity, it will certainly remain a pastime. Provide your online service the focus it should have as well as treats it like the genuine company it is.
14. They listen to their customers.
Don't take too lightly the worth your clients offer the procedure of growing as well as creating your online service. Nella Chunky, the creator of hugely effective apparel firm Fresh-Tops, believes Private Cash Sites customer recommendations were key to her start-up's success: "We relied on e-mail requests as well as recommendations from our social media sites fans when determining exactly how to move forward and what things to include in our line, and also it worked actually well."
15. They pursue their passion.
Running an online business can be challenging, which is why it's so vital you're passionate regarding what you're doing. Ask on your own: Can I see myself still be in this organisation in 5-10 years? Otherwise, it's probably better to move directions as well as pick something you actually care about.
16. They spend heavily in Search Engine Optimization.
According to research study from Ascend2, 82% of marketers think the effectiveness of SEO gets on the increase. Obtaining high rankings in the online search engine is imperative for an on the internet company, as this will likely be just one of your biggest resources of web traffic. Required some aid with optimizing your site? Take a look at The Newbie's Guide To SEO.
17. They do something about it even before every little thing's ideal.
Ryan French, Creator of GameKlip has fantastic recommendations for new company owner: do not wait until everything's ideal to get relocating. He composes, "Do not seem like you require to understand every little thing, or that everything has to be ideal prior to you begin. I knew absolutely nothing about running a service, had no concept exactly how to have actually something produced, and also had no idea just how to ship a package overseas. I've currently shipped countless Private Cash Sites systems to over 80 nations worldwide. It will not be easy, there'll be numerous factors where you seem like giving up, yet it deserves it."
18. They quit searching for the cash cow.
There is no magic bullet when it concerns constructing a successful online business. Yet numerous company owner throw away a lots of time trying to find that one technique or approach that will catapult them to success. The truth is, if there were a gold mine, it would certainly be determination and hard work. Fail to remember looking for that wonderful thing, place your head down, and do the effort of running your company.
19. They have an actual plan (a composed one).
An additional common mistaken belief concerning on-line companies: individuals simply sort of locate your website, acquire your stuff, and you begin making lots of loan. This isn't real for brick and mortar businesses, and it most definitely isn't real for online ones! Effective on-line businesses profit greatly from a solid company plan, along with a documented marketing technique.
20. They do not allow failure defeat them up.
Similar to any company, failing is just part of the landscape. It's what you do when you fall short that counts. Search Engine Optimization approach not driving traffic? Choose various key phrases. Material marketing stopping working? Concentrate on more thorough content. Social network blog posts not obtaining involvement? Research your competitors to see what you can imitate (or do far better).
21. They're dominating their Private Cash Sites niche.
If you take something from this article, let it be this: do not bang your head against the wall trying to compete with the huge guys. Rather, specific niche down and also focus on a subset of your sector - and also do whatever you can to control in that location. For instance, among my very first niches was Christmas tree storage.
Rather than targeting the whole holiday style sector, we concentrated solely on developing our credibility as using the most effective storage space at the most affordable prices. We swiftly developed a 7-figure organisation using this method - something we can have never done if we had actually pursued the huge guys!
What Is Private Cash Sites?
Tumblr media
I Intended To REVEAL Something Incredibly Exciting Associating With The "Spin" That I Was Discussing.
I pointed out a minute ago that we were going to do be doing the help you - as well as obtaining other individuals to meet the solutions that you offer, on your behalf.
Well, THIS is what "Personal Cash Money Sites" is everything about.
What we are mosting likely to do is deal with whatever, eliminate any kind of guesswork on your part as well as leave it pretty much "hands-free" for you, so your focus is simply on making sales as well as revenues.

In company terms, what we're speaking about below is known as a franchise.
If you're unsure as to what a franchise business is, do not stress - it's easy to understand.
Franchising is like having a service plan that has actually been CONFIRMED to earn money.
The concept is that the "franchisor" (the original organisation) has actually experienced the procedure of getting know-how in a particular location as well as has actually developed a successful business.
... They then allow other people to duplicate that success by giving them a whole system for operating their own variation of business whilst enabling them to use their brand as well as sell their product or services.
Let me elaborate with an instance ...
Among the biggest as well as most successful franchise business on the planet is McDonalds. Love them or hate them, they are EXTREMELY effective in service and also earnings terms.
Virtually $10 BILLION DOLLARS is generated each year from their franchised restaurants that other individuals very own as well as run.
The method this functions is rather basic ...
A person seeks authorization from McDonalds to open a restaurant area in a particular location of a town or city.
When McDonald's gives them the thumbs-up, they will certainly give them all the recipes, devices, procedures as well as marketing products that they need in order to open the dining establishment and also hit the ground operating.

I'm going to include some details to get the best advice. I'd be happy to answer any questions as well. This is obviously a throw away account as I want to keep this away from anyone that might know me. I can talk more in private message. There is a TL;DR at the bottom. Beginning: We wanted to start an infant/toddler daycare center and found a great opportunity on a property we could renovate in early 2017. We formed an S-Corp and gathered funds for start-up. We refinanced our personal residence, used savings, and took an investment from my father. The owner of the building was an acquaintance of my father and also owns a construction business (IE we get a sweet deal on the remodel). We pitched him our plan and eventually came to terms on a Lease with purchase option at a fixed price for 2 years. He seemed inspired by our drive to start a business and gave us favorable terms to help us acquire the property in the end. We designed the remodel layout to convert this former credit union building into a daycare. The lease began in June 2017 when construction, from the landlords company, began. We managed to get through all the hurdles with the City, County Health Dept and State Licensing to get a Cert of Occupancy, Health approval and Child Care License. We opened for services at the end of Sept 2017. Growth: Business started slow, as expected in this field. It does take time for families to tour the facility and commit. We generated $12k revenue in 2017 for Oct, Nov, Dec. and lost $90k in the process of remodel, furnishing, marketing, etc. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to take the drive-thru lanes from the credit union and add another room for the next age group. We had included $15k up front at lease inception to go towards this addition, but needed to acquire more funds to complete it. We raised money from a family friend and sold some equity in the business (4.25%). The plan was to have this addition completed in spring 2018, but found it extremely difficult to acquire permits from City building dept as they treated it like a new build. It kept getting pushed back and back again. Business wise, things were taking off and by the end of 2018 getting full on all licensed spots. We had stopped the bleeding and were turning black numbers. We brought in $203k in revenue and netted $12K. By Spring 2019 we had to let some families go from the center due to the build not being completed (kids were too old and new room was needed). Construction had begun and was completed at the end of June 2019. Now: At this point we're around 50% full in the new room. We've brought in $230k revenue so far in 2019. There isn't a TON of profit compared to other types of businesses, but in July 2019 we had $31k revenue and netted $10k. Aug revenue is $34k and by Jan/Feb 2020 we'll be completely full and generating ~$52k/mo with $20k in monthly profit. The Problem: Landlord needs us to complete the purchase option on the property. He has graciously allowed us to extend into a month-to-month situation (lease term was in June 2019). The purchase option is still available to us, but I feel time is running out. He has expressed that they need to be cashed out. I don't know how much longer they will let us stay. I've been working for the last 4 months to try and acquire a commercial mortgage on the property, but have not been successful. I started with local credit unions (particularly with the one that previously owned the property). They said no due to not having a long enough track record for their underwriting guidelines. I went on to some national commercial mortgage brokers that I found on Scotsman guide. Got pre-approvals, but was turned down in underwriting due to DSCR ratio being too low (which I calculate out to 1.4 on 3 year projections). I feel like I'm exhausting my options and fear that we'll be forced to vacate the property if we can't come up with something. The business is dependent upon securing the building to continue operations. You may suggest to simply move to another location, but we invested $75k in leaseholder improvements and the addition (which would normally cost around $150k) and we're in a prime location geographically. I'm worried of losing our investment financially and countless hours, my families investment, my family friends investment, letting our 11 employees go, and displacing the families that need our services. Property: In Colorado, 1.5 acre fully developed lot, 2800 sq ft building, outdoor playground, asphalt, 2 curb cuts. Est Value (based on comps) $1.35-1.5M. Purchase Option is $950,000.Credit Scores: Upper 600's-Low 700's depending.Miscellaneous: We've been paying property insurance for the last 2 years. Est 2020 property taxes $25k paid in 2 payments. Solutions?: I'm open to suggestions on how to acquire the property and keep the business going. We've got big long term plans to open multiple locations, but am struggling to acquire my first.Should I keep banging my head against a wall with these Banks, Credit Unions, Brokers, Hard Money lenders, etc? Should I be trying to gather a small private group of people and raise the funds in 1-2yr short term interest only payments then refinance it all with a traditional bank? Should I invest every last dollar into lottery tickets to fund it?! Really though, I need some suggestions. I hate that I stand the chance to lose everything I've wanted and been working to build over what feels like a safe bet. Ultimately, I just need a small loan of a million dollars to continue my dream. TL;DR - Started up a child care center, remodeled a credit union with plan to purchase at end of lease, got the business up and running into black numbers, making decent profit to afford mortgage, getting turned down for being a newer business or not enough debt service coverage ratio, seeking options to prevent losing the opportunity and business. Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to hearing what you have to say!

What happens when an animal influencer dies?
Tumblr media
It’s Viral Market Crash week on Mashable. Join us as we take stock of the viral economy and investigate how the internet morphed from a fun free-for-all to a bleak hellscape we just can’t quit.
Four and a half years ago, Chloe Kardoggian was looking for a new home. She wasn't what many would consider to be the most adoptable dog — at nine year old, she had heart problems, bug eyes, and only two teeth to her name. But Dorie Herman saw past all that.
Herman says she adopted Chloe from "a friend of a friend of a friend" after seeing a Facebook post announcing Chloe was up for adoption. She started an Instagram account for her new pet as a way to show Chloe's old owners how she was doing.
Then Chloe got famous.
Don't forget to come meet me and TONS of adoptable dogs from @fosterdogsnyc today 12-4 at @vaute_nyc - My pals @apugnamedemoji @newyorkdog and @littlehollysbigworld will be there too!!! 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
A post shared by Chloe Kardoggian (@chloekardoggian) on Feb 11, 2017 at 7:37am PST
Chloe's newfound celebrity came as a surprise to Herman, who told Mashable she never realized that dogs on the internet "were a thing" until she had her own insta-famous pooch.
Like many other pet influencers before her, Chloe's account got extensive press coverage and served up "spon con." She advertised Clorox, Swiffer, and Beggin' Littles products, in addition to her own merch. Generating endorsement deals wasn't the objective, Herman said, but the extra income helped pay for Chloe's medical expenses.
But then in early July, Chloe passed away, leaving Herman and her Instagram following behind.
Now, in the wake of Chloe's death, Herman is faced with one glaring question: what is to become of Chloe's account?
When you lose your influencer, you lose your business
Loni Edwards, founder of The Dog Agency, the first management agency to focus solely on pet influencers, says that after a pet influencer passes, it's unlikely their account will continue to make money.
"It is so hard because you're losing your loved one but also it's a huge monetary hit, and figuring out how to deal with that it's a lot," Edwards explains.
Depending on their following, pet influencers can make big money. Dogs with 20,000 followers can make $200 per post, dogs with 150,000 to 250,000 followers can make $3,000 a post, and dogs with one million followers can make up to $10,000 per post, according to Market Watch.
But Edwards says it doesn't matter how many followers you have if the star of your brand has passed away. "When that brand dies, you can't just throw a new brand at [your followers]," she says.
However, there can be an exception to that rule. Accounts that focus on "families" rather than one single pet can continue to be profitable, even if one of the pets passes away.
"One of our clients, Wolfgang2242, he adopts senior pups all the time, and he sees a lot of turnover because they are senior pets," Edwards said. "People follow for the family, so when one pet passes the account is still the same account. But when an account is about one specific pet and that pet is no longer here it's a much different situation and it's a lot harder to continue."
Since I'm recently back from vacation I tried to get everyone together for a group shot. Unfortunately, Bikini was not cooperating. I gave her a very thorough bath on Sunday and she is still mad at me (girl can hold a grudge). But almost everybody else is here including Stuart the rabbit and Betty the chicken. And if you zoom in on the picture you can see Doris gossiping in Melvin's ear and Edna with that relaxed, messy look that seems to suggest her subcutaneous fluid treatments might not be the only fluids she's getting into. #familymatters From top to bottom, left to right Betty the chicken, Edsel Englebert, Stuart the rabbit, Eeyore, Loretta, Doris (the gossip), Melvin, Edna, Enoch and Waylon.

But even for single animal accounts, the financial hit the owner might take after the pet's passing doesn't necessarily mean the end of the brand.
Pet influencers have strong communities, even postmortem
You may be wondering why you would even want to update your pet influencer's Instagram if they're long gone, and the account is no longer profitable? You might, like me, even find the concept a tad macabre.
But as multiple owners of now deceased insta-famous pets explained to me, the desire to remain within the community they created keeps them posting.
Anna Marie Avey, who runs Colonel Meow's Instagram, says that since her cat's passing four years ago, she still feels like she's part of the community he created.
"I'm a cat person forever," Avey said. "I'm still an animal lover. It doesn't stop. You can't just step out of the community. I'm in it forever."
And it seems like Colonel Meow's 305,000 followers are still along for the ride, too. Pictures of the Colonel still generate comments lamenting his death from adoring fans.
"Your presence is still felt, Colonel," reads one comment.
Avey posts Colonel Meow's old pictures sporadically. For the most part, though, she now directs the account's attention to her new cat Papa Puffpants, her YouTube series Crazy Avey Land, and her Nine Lives podcast.

Toast, the dog behind toastmeetsworld, received an enormous amount of attention over the years for her eccentric outfits and tongue that flopped out the side of her mouth. She starred in a fashion campaign, had her own book, and was even a part of a dog wedding televised on Bravo.
After she passed away in December 2017, her owner Katie Sturino has found that the massive following Toast left behind (365,000 followers) provides her with a great platform to bring awareness to the inhumane nature of puppy mills.
"We do a lot of good with that account, it's a really big audience and one of the biggest things that Toast has done is make an impact on changing people's minds towards rescue," Sturino explains. "So, I think it would be a totally wasted opportunity to stop posting completely."
Sturino says she works closely with the Humane Society and supports their efforts to get rid of puppy mills, using Toast's account to promote the "adopt don't shop" philosophy.

Animal influencers don't live forever, and that's okay
Animal influencers will probably always be a welcome source of wholesomeness in a world that continues to disappoint on a daily basis — even if they are used as viral advertising tools.
Sadly, the longevity of an animal influencer's career is limited by their very nature.
"Pets, unfortunately, don't live as long as humans, so it's a much shorter business time period," Edwards says. "Some pets live to be 16, 18 years old. That's a very nice life for a business. Knowing that it's not something that's going to go on your entire career, it's still a sturdy business."
Should your pet rise to fame, it's inevitable that the bubble of success will eventually burst. Even so, that doesn't mean that your pet can't introduce you to a new community that holds you up or a new cause for you to champion. Both Avey and Sturino cherish the time they spent with their pets both on and off camera.
Though Herman doesn't know what her next steps will be, she does plan on keeping the account. But even if no new endorsement deals come her way, she still credits the best things that have happened in her life to Chloe and treasures their short time together. And come September, she'll be hosting the Chloe Kardoggian Celebration of Life Fundraiser for Foster Dogs Inc, that provides "fospice" care for senior dogs. Herman hopes to raise $10,000 at the upcoming event and have it be matched.
Chloe would be pleased.

Wanted some unbiased opinion on car insurance?
I'm getting a Lotus Elise transferred under my name sometime next week and it will be replacing my MINI Cooper as my daily driver. This car is typically insured as a pleasure car, so most people who own them don't often drive them over 3k miles per year. I'll be doing nearly three times that, so I'm expecting my rates to be little higher than usual just because it'll be my daily driver. So here's my question, may I insure the car as a pleasure or weekend vehicle and still drive it above the mileage that is permitted by my insurance co. ? Also, I'm only 20. I've gotten a quote of $3200 per year to insure as a weekend car, and that's the lowest that I've found so far. I'm expecting something a bit higher to register it as a daily. Feel free to throw in what you would recommend for an insurance company, I'm still shopping for one with a decent rate.""

Does the insurance company ( the other guys' fault) pay for rental car insurance?
I got swiped in the week. He is culpable and using his insurance Farmers. I get a rental while my car is in the shop. Farmers- do they pay for my rental insurance, if I am not covered to drive another car but my own? I have legal insurance- liability but not collision. THe guy who swiped me was extremely nice, giving me humbers and taking photos and so on- he was decent. But to pay extra for collision ( Enterprize mentioned this) it'll be 15-18 bucks a day. At this point, I'm fed up with having to drive around getting appraisals and do NOT think I should pay a dam thing. If I get a tiny scratch on the rental, they may ask me to pay for that, or will they? Please what are my options? The rental will take MY credit card for godsake ( I understand--I could just go sell it etc), but I do not see why I should be liable for even a tiny scratch, if I don't have that coverage for my own car and am happy to keep driving my own car that way- I will not be able ot drive my car a week or so while it's in the shop. Any advice- is Farmers right on this? Or did the customer service rep get it wrong? I'm confused right now. If I have to pay that collision ( god knows Enterprize could charge for a hailstone dent) then they guy who swiped me- he should pay them directly right? Please advise. I am willing to put a call into that guy to ask him to just pay the collision for each day I have the rental ( bear in mind I DO have legal liability insurance already, just not collision). Will my insurance cost raise up if I got hit and run?
Hello, couple days ago I've visited to my friend's house and parked the car properly close to the curb in the street, and as I came back I found my car hit badly all the way from rear tail-lights through all the way to the front part of the car(hood) which apparently caused lots of damage, which after I reported to my insurance company(my insurance company is FOREMOST) and took the car to a bodyshop, a few days later the estimator visited to bodyshop valued the damage worth of 8500$, so my question is` will my monthly bill raise up cause of this hit and run which obviously I'm not at fault at all?(note: we've two other cars under the same policy, so three cars in total), so IF my insurance bill will raise up, how much approx. it will raise? and WHEN?(will it raise right on my next bill or by the renewal time?) AND if it raise up too much can I just cancel this insurance(for the entire policy including the other 2 cars) and get another insurance for a decent price? thanks. some info: I'm from California, Los Angeles, this is first hit and run I've reported and my payments always been made properly so no a single late payment or anything, thanks.""

How much would it cost to add a Mustang GT under my parents current policy? Would it go up alot?

Question about car insurance?
I'm wondering something about car insurance. I am a 17 year old male, (turning 18 in 1 month) and have been driving a 2001 Hyundai accent since October. I am insured with esurance, and have liability only. I have a clean driving record. My monthly insurance is $197. I am on my parents policy. When I first called to get a quote, (cheapest company for me) it was around 120 a month, but then they got the VIN number and of course it went up because it knew exactly what car it was. Of course car insurance is very expensive for a male my age. My question is that I'm trying to save money to buy a jeep wrangler this summer. Will probably be a year 1997-2003. I want to know about how much it would cost to insure the jeep. I hear mixed responses about the cost to insure a wrangler, iv heard it's expensive because of the high theft rate and roll over chances. I know of course I don't know how much it will be exactly, considering I don't have a VIN number for the jeep wrangler. I get extremely expensive quotes when I search online, and the are all completely off. My parents policy has probably 4 or 5 cars on it and I am excluded off everyone's car. My sister has been in 2 wrecks and 2 speeding tickets, which I heard makes my insurance increase also. Anyone who has a general idea about cost for me to insure a jeep wrangler, thank you.""

Will my motorcycle license show up on the car insurance?
So before you guys rule me out as being immature about getting a motorcycle without my parents knowledge let me tell you about my background. I am a college student studying at Northeastern in Boston. I have my own apartment in Boston and I share with 3 other people. I pay my own rent and food and I work 2 jobs. I work around 25-30 hours a week and I am a full time student on top of that. I have a car that is under my dad's insurance and I pay for the insurance and gas. Lately, the insurance and gas is really killing me financially. So, I'm planning to give my car back to my parents and I will just get a motorcycle for the city. Its cheaper gas and insurance wise and its easy to find parking for it the place I live in. I have taken place the winter seasons and I'm planning to put it in a storage for the winter seasons. My question is that my mother is thinks that a motorcycle is unsafe and that its dangerous. I believe its up to the driver to be safe or not, and also being aware of the surrounding. My mom take cares of the insurances and she just tells me how much I have to pay her for the car, and I was wondering if I get my motorcycle licenses in MA, does it show up on the car insurance? I'm planning to insure the motorcycle on my own with a different company and register it under my name. So basically I don't want my parents to find out about it. I don't want to cause them any trouble. Lets say that I take my name off of the car insurance, but down the line I want to put my name back on the car insurance does my motorcycle license show up during re apply for my name under the car insurance?""

Hustling Hope: San Diego doctor runs Contentious diabetes Practice
From Cheryl Clark | inewsource
Just about each Tuesday morning around 7:30, John McCreary of Poway can be found waiting for Dr. James Novak’s office to open. Almost consistently, McCreary said, he is the first one there.
Novak’s practice is recorded as the only one in the San Diego region offering Trina Health’s “Artificial Pancreas Treatment,” a four-hour IV insulin infusion procedure for those who have diabetes. Some people prefer McCreary, 69, who has wrestled with coronary artery pain for many years, said they believe the procedure is working for them.
Poway resident John McCreary, in his home Nov. 12, 2017, is currently a patient in Dr. James Novak’s Trina Health clinic at Pacific Beach. (Megan Wood/inewsource)
That Matters —
The state has a limited source of health care dollars to invest in services and drugs, which is the reason why the authorities and health plans need scientific evidence of individual benefit. This is particularly important for its 30.3 million people in the U.S. with diabetes, whose medical prices in 2012 totaled $245 billion.
Since he started going to Novak for its infusions last summer, he said the infusions have been successful. They’ve made the numbness in his hands “like I was just continuously grabbing on to a barrel cactus” — almost evaporate, McCreary said. He explained his Medicare coverage and his supplemental coverage from Colonial Penn Life Insurance Co. have compensated for everything.
McCreary said he’s likely to go now because of his extract. He has not heard anything will change in the clinic since the news last week that Trina founder and CEO G. Ford Gilbert has been indicted on fraud and bribery charges in Alabama.
“I figure it is likely to be a wait and see position,” he explained.
Gilbert is accused of bribery, health care fraud and wire fraud, among other charges, in what federal prosecutors call a “public corruption scheme.” He’s accused of committing an Alabama politician to try to get legislation passed that would have needed an insurance coverage there to pay for his infusions. The strategy and Medicare had previously denied coverage, depending on the lack of scientific proof that IV insulin infusions actually benefit patients. The legislation never passed. Gilbert and two other defendants are due in court on April 18.
At a text message on Monday, Gilbert said he believes news coverage has treated him unfairly, which an inewsourcestory printed Saturday has “hurt a great deal of people.”
Over the previous months, at least two practices have ceased offering the infusions, and also at least one, the Diabetes Relief Center at South Bronx, has removed the Trina emblem and all references to Gilbert from its site. A lot of other practices’ sites are thought to be undergoing care.
An issue mentioned in the indictment and at suits is the way Trina Health and its own practices bill Medicare and private insurance plans. Medicare denied coverage of IV insulin infusions at a determination in 2009, saying there was not adequate scientific evidence it profited patients. Health plans followed in denying coverage.
Gilbert found a means to submit claims to the procedure by dividing it into different component parts, including “refilling and maintenance of portable pump,” “extract into a vein for therapy,” and also “established individual office or other outpatient visit, generally 25 minutes” in order to get paid. BlueCross Blue Shield at Alabama and Montana has ceased reimbursing for Trina treatments.
G. Ford Gilbert, founder and CEO of Trina Health, has been revealed in an office in the Corporation’s Sacramento headquarters in Feb. 5, 2018. (Megan Wood/inewsource)
Though some patients said the insulin infusion therapy profited them, several San Diego endocrinologists who specialize in treating people with diabetes telephone the Trina Health procedure nothing more than a scam.
One is Dr. Georges Argoud, that has offices in Solana Beach and Chula Vista. He said he tries to talk from the insulin infusions.
Argoud called it a “travesty” that Trina practices are “misleading the public” and “victimizing those that are not able to detect a scam.” The therapy and also the infusions, he explained, are “a waste of Medicare resources.” Argoud, such as other experts interviewed by inewsource, cited the lack of clinical signs that Trina infusions have the favorable benefits advertised.
Novak told inewsource he started San Diego’s Trina Health clinic at August 2016 as an addition for his family medicine practice on Lamont Street at Pacific Beach. His is one of approximately a dozen who have recently worked nationwide from Las Vegas to Miami and out of Sacramento to Scottsdale.
Novak told inewsource at late last year, his first Trina clinic had about 25 patients weekly.
“The vast majority of individuals who do that procedure get enough benefit from it that they elect to maintain coming,” Novak explained. Many of his patients have “high wellbeing complications from the diabetes which they wish to enhance.”
Novak said nearly all of his patients obtaining the Trina infusions are dealing with neuropathy. Others have a sort of eye disease called retinopathy, or else they suffer with “erectile dysfunction, or gastroparesis, in which their gut isn’t working, and they’re having digestive issues, and we have a number … with significant fatty liver disorder,” he explained. Some of his patients have prediabetes.
Facebook used to promote Trina infusions
Jeannette Testamark, one of Novak’s patients, said she heard about the Trina infusions if she saw a post last year on Facebook publicizing the Pacific Beach clinic. In remarks on Facebook, the College Area resident said she had been obtaining the infusions last July.
A screenshot of a Trina Health ad published on Facebook on May 15, 2017.
Testamark told inewsource she does not like that the extract procedure requires her to be stuck nine times throughout the four-hour sessions. But, she said, her energy was increased “to the stage that I only recently joined the Y, so I could get back to exercising.” The pain in her legs? “It’s pretty much gone,” she explained. Testamark said Medicare coated her Trina sessions.
Novak, a member of this medical staff in Scripps Mercy Hospital, said he has not ” seen anyone have a bad result” from the Trina procedure. He explained he provides the infusions as part of his practice, since “I am considering holistic treatments and whatever we can do in order to return the body to a more natural equilibrium.” The infusions, he said, enhance blood circulation to the limbs and that helps heal wounds that affect people with diabetes.
Novak declined to be interviewed in person but spoke briefly last autumn with inewsource in a conference call with Trina CEO Gilbert. Attempts to achieve Novak this week were unsuccessful.
Gilbert said clinicians supplying the Trina infusions sign a confidentiality agreement, but he said he would let Novak to go over his Trina practice.
Several San Diego region Facebook users posted more than 100 opinions beneath a URL to an advertorial on Facebook concerning the San Diego clinic last year. Some said they first learned about the Trina infusions on Facebook. When asked regarding the advertorial final autumn, Gilbert said it was removed. He said it included claims.
San Diego physicians doubt Trina benefits patients
Retired nurse Arlene Way, 83, of Spring Valley said her podiatrist, Walter Jolley, known her to Novak’s clinic so she could find the Trina insulin infusions because of her neuropathy. Since she began receiving them, Way said, the sensations within her feet are returning.
” I feel all types of stuff,” she explained. Medicare and her supplemental strategy, United Healthcare, entirely cover her sessions. Revealed the procedure was broken down to component parts.
However, when Way told her endocrinologist, Dr. Jeffrey Sandler, about getting Trina infusions, she said he told her “he didn’t expect much to happen, but he didn’t object to my participating in the program.”
Sandler, a Scripps Mercy doctor, said in an interview he has told patients that visit him together with Trina Health brochures to throw them off.
Diabetes pros from all over the country, including 11 from San Diego County, criticized Trina Health’s claims, some saying the procedure is really a waste of time and money. Other people state the pitch to the procedure — that de-emphasizes the value of blood glucose control — can interfere with demonstrated diabetes care plans.
Dr. Patricia Shen-Chi Wu, an endocrinologist with Kaiser Permanente San Diego, commented on a Facebook post July on the brand new San Diego Trina clinic. She explained the artificial pancreas maintains will be “a scam.”
In an email to inewsource, she stated, “If Kaiser Permanente has any patients experiencing Trina infusions, they would be doing it against our guidance.”
Dr. Jeremy Pettus of this La Jolla-based Center for Biology Research in the VA San Diego Medical Center, said the Trina site “is concerning.”
“Regrettably, treatments like these … often charge tens of thousands of dollars and prey on people’s vulnerability, which is dreadful,” Pettus said. “Happily, I don’t know of individuals who have gone through that particular therapy and might direct them away, for sure, if I asked me about it.”
Trina founder Gilbert references a study by Dr. George Dailey, a Scripps Clinic endocrinologist, that Gilbert said shows his blood glucose extract works. However, Dailey said it doesn’t have such thing.
However every so often, Dailey gets a phone in the medical plan or an insurance company “asking me if that is something legitimate that they need to think about,” and when they need to incorporate it in their policy. His response is no.
In any case, he explained, the promises made on Trina Health’s site, that so many complications of diabetes can be prevented or reversed, are somewhat biased.
“Obviously, I am concerned that I’ve never seen a legitimate book anywhere else about this, so a bunch of individual testimonials is kind of painful, though that is the foundation for the promotion here,” Dailey said.
Dr. Steven Edelman, an endocrinology researcher at the University of California San Diego and founder and director of Take Charge of Your Diabetes forums, told inewsource in an email he knows about Trina Health and its founder.
“I do know it’s a scam,” Edelman said. “They’ve been ripping people off for many years.”
He declined to comment further.
Despite criticism against the San Diego diabetes physicians, Gilbert said he plans to open a second Trina clinic that summer in La Jolla.

State may be paying more for some Purple Line properties
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland may be paying more for some properties in the main path of the Purple Line, state officials said, because one transit agency lacks purchasing leverage, and extended negotiations would cause costly delays.
Comptroller Peter Franchot in early February expressed concerns that the state is overpaying for properties it needs to make way for the new light rail.
“In our enthusiasm and support for the Purple Line we’re getting put over a barrel by some of these landowners. And we are having to pay a lot more than the appraised values,” Franchot said at a Feb. 7 Board of Public Works meeting.
At that meeting, the board unanimously approved $5.3 million for part of a Silver Spring apartment complex — $1.5 million over the state’s original appraised value.
Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn told Capital News Service that the state has paid more for certain properties in order to avoid costs of delaying the $5.6 billion project.
“We have a major portion of the right-of-way already secured,” Rahn told Capital News Service, “but we are running into situations where, on the ‘critical path,’ landowners know that we can’t afford to wait.”
“Critical path” properties take priority because they are properties that must be acquired in order for the project to move forward, said Rahn.
If the state can’t provide access to the Purple Line’s “critical path,” contractors will charge the state for idle equipment and idle employees, Rahn said, and the “costs of delays on the Purple Line are huge.”
Because of Maryland law, the negotiating power of landowners with property needed for the Purple Line depends on where the property is — whether it’s in the “critical path” — and which agency is buying it.
Sometimes, the state determines that the Maryland Transit Administration must purchase the property; other times, it’s the State Highway Administration.
The highway agency is required to take land for the Purple Line if it’s along a state highway right-of-way, next to an administration-owned road or if highway work related to the light rail is being done on the road, said Charles Lattuca, executive director for transit development and delivery at the Maryland Transit Administration.
Everything else would be acquired by the Maryland Transit Administration, Lattuca said.
The administration does not have the power to “quick take” properties because it operates under different laws than the State Highway Administration, which does, said Judy Freedman-Breckon, the transit administration’s real property acquisitions manager for the Purple Line project.
So, for critical path properties, the transit administration must come to the negotiating table and settle on a price before construction can start, whereas the State Highway Administration can use quick take — acquire properties, pay owners what the state determines is a fair price, start construction right away and worry about possible litigation later.
On Feb. 7, the Maryland Transit Administration asked for nearly $5.3 million to acquire 25,115 square feet of property, and rent another 22,394 square feet at the Falkland Chase apartment complex in Silver Spring.
A portion of Falkland Chase lies in the Purple Line’s critical path.
The board unanimously approved the request, though it was more than $1.5 million over the $3,639,300 appraised value determined by the state.
The higher cost was within an appraised range and would cost the state less than delays, according to Rahn.
“This is not the first contract where I feel as if the state is being leveraged,” Franchot said. “This (problem of overpaying) is going to get worse and worse as the private sector catches on.”
Rahn said he knows that the state is paying a premium on certain properties, but those additional costs are approved after the state considers the necessity of a property — whether it sits in the line’s “critical path.”
Then, Rahn said, a calculation is made between the additional cost of a critical path property — in order to move ahead quickly — versus the cost to delay the Purple Line due to a dispute.
The $5.3 million does not include the relocation costs of 20 households; this cost is not currently publicly available. It also does not include an additional $598,356 for rent loss that should be paid to the complex’s owner, according to state documents.
At the board meeting last month, Franchot called upon Rahn to ask state lawmakers to give the Maryland Transit Administration the same legal powers of “quick take” as the State Highway Administration.
“If you could perhaps suggest (to lawmakers) that (quick take) authority would save millions of taxpayer dollars and correct something that I think is not a level playing field right now, I would be appreciative,” Franchot said to Rahn.
Rahn said that there is good reason for legislation like this, calling Franchot’s comment, “absolutely valid.” However, he said it is unlikely that this is an issue that can be addressed this session.
“(Franchot) has been and continues to be a supporter of the Purple Line,” said Joseph H. Shapiro, assistant comptroller. He said Franchot is concerned that taxpayers get the most for the money spent on their behalf, and his worry is that because Maryland Transit Administration lacks “quick take,” the state is paying more than it should.
By mid-February, about 88 percent of all property planned to be bought for the Purple Line project was in hand, Lattuca told Capital News Service.
The process of property acquisition starts with an appraisal, state documents show.
When the Maryland Transit Administration needs to acquire a property, two independent appraisers each offer a valuation of the property, according to state documents.
Joseph Suntum, a lawyer who worked on a $22.9 million deal for a business center in Silver Spring, said the state actually acquired that Spring Center property at a “bargain.”
“The state is not throwing money away,” Suntum said. Acquisitions should be based on the quality and reliability of the appraisals.
“By law,” Suntum said, “property should be valued on its highest and best use, not the current use.”
Maryland’s Board of Public Works in September approved $1.9 million in state funding for the Maryland Transit Administration to acquire a 5,501 sq. ft. house in Bethesda for Purple Line construction — $1 million more than the home’s appraised value of $935,200, according to state documents.
For property not in the critical path, the Maryland Transit Administration can afford to wait, Rahn said.
If construction can continue without a property and the owner doesn’t accept the state’s offer, the transit agency would go through a negotiation process, and could wait for that property for a few years, Rahn said.
The budget for all Purple Line right-of-way property acquisition is $229.6 million and, so far, Lattuca said Feb. 16, the Maryland Transit Administration’s budget is on target for the project.
The $5.6 billion light rail project, funded through a public-private partnership with Purple Line Transit Partners, includes $2 billion in construction costs, according to Erin Henson, director of the Office of Public Affairs for Maryland’s Department of Transportation.
“We are working on the schedule of completion,” Rahn said Feb. 16. The project was planned to be finished by spring 2022, but after a year of delay in the courts a new date must be negotiated, he said.
Once completed, the 21-station light rail project is planned to link Bethesda and New Carrolton, and connect to Metrorail’s Orange, Green, and Red lines; the MARC Brunswick, Camden and Penn lines; and Amtrak.
