I’ve thought about it before, and to me it’s always seemed like it stemmed from a very relatable ‘I’m not good enough for the Doctor’ mentality?

Finally had enough breathing space to have a bit of a chat about these two. I have already yapped about my thoughts on that speech, but the more I learn about emotional permanence (or the lack of it), the more I see it in River. It's not a widely known concept I think, especially within the fandom. It may not have been in Moffat's mind when he wrote THORS but it still makes sense. Anyways, I hope I answered your ask adequately below!

River’s "The Doctor does not and has never loved me" speech reflects a moment of raw pain and emotional impermanence. I was a bit unsure how to do this at first... but I think there's some interesting dynamics between characters to explore here.

Part of me wants to write something separate for the dynamic you, Angel, and Val have in this. That seems good enough on its own to explore. ALSO! So sorry it got complicated... I had too many thoughts I lost the plot half the time.

At first it's a bit difficult to see where you can place another Overlord.

Vaggie would naturally struggle to trust another Overlord based on the ones she's seen/interacted with.

Same thing with Angel due to the fact his soul is owned by an Overlord.

So, both of these characters obsessing over an Overlord is... strange.

The only thing I can think of is you're an Overlord supporting the hotel.

One thing the two share in common is their care for Charlie, no matter how ridiculous her ideas are.

So maybe you're an Overlord who's investing in or just interested in the hotel and its inhabitants.

You'd often come to the hotel to speak with Charlie, not usually going out of your way to have soul deals with anyone there (as per an agreement with Charlie).

This could be a way to get you on good terms with the two.

HOWEVER, This ALSO creates unique relationships between you and Alastor/Valentino.

I imagine Overlords tend to have a territory.

They don't typically want free Overlords in their space or touching their property.

Which means, a new Overlord would catch the attention of Alastor and Val.

First of all, Alastor will notice you often around the hotel and Charlie.

While his role is being a defender of the hotel and yours is simply supplying it, Alastor may feel a bit threatened... or even interested when it comes to your presence.

There's a good chance you can actually get along with Alastor if you aren't a threat... maybe.

When it comes to Val, however?

None whatsoever.

Val would hate you interacting with Angel.

Especially when Angel gets attached.

So, I feel a rivalry like this might come off as complex.

Even more so with the fact you're an Overlord.

Vaggie becomes close to you because you both care for Charlie.

You're seen as an ally and she respects your abilities.

Plus, you're more respectable than most other Overlords here.

She's always found Alastor... shifty.

Vaggie comes off as an overprotective yandere, even if you're a strong Overlord.

Actually, that fact alone makes Vaggie want to protect you due to Alastor.

Alastor no doubt wants to make a deal with you due to your power.

Power is his end game and he isn't sure if Charlie would even need you to be an Overlord.

He can handle it, so why not make a deal with him to give over your power?

Vaggie is often the one trying to keep one (or two) Overlords off your back.

It's originally because she doesn't want Charlie to stress or worry.

But later it's because she genuinely cares about you, Overlord or not.

Angel is a bit more dependent when attached.

At first he pays you no mind.

Oh great, another Overlord to force their way into things.

As if Alastor and Val aren't enough.

He tries not to pay you any mind, often ignoring you.

However, maybe you comfort him after an argument with Val.

You notice him covered in marks and become oddly attentive.

He originally tries to push away, telling you off while he tries to isolate himself.

He finds the idea of an Overlord being caring odd.

Even Alastor does it to get his way.

Yet... You appear to be genuinely concerned...

He hates that he enjoys it.

What may solidify his attachment is you standing up to Val or something.

That or just defending Angel in general.

With you he feels less... guarded.

He knows being around you pisses Val off.

At times Angel gets concerned for your well-being because Val can be dangerous as a Vee.

Yet you try to reassure him you're alright with it.

Even though Angel tries to distance himself for your sake... He can never stay away for long.

Oof... Things just get messy when Angel's attached.

Mostly because Val is erratic and temperamental.

ALL OF THAT and I have yet to discuss Vaggie and Angel actually fighting.

See what I mean by this is more complicated than I thought it would be?

Vaggie and Angel can agree on one thing... you're helpful, sweet, and important to them.

The two also tend to keep you away from two other Overlords.

You're meddling where you shouldn't, even if you don't mean to, but these two act as good allies to you.

I don't imagine their rivalry gets too violent.

They wouldn't try to end one another, mostly it's just arguments on who cares for you better.

But it's not like you're all that vulnerable.

No, you're an Overlord, most of the time you're caring for them.

You help Vaggie be more confident in helping Charlie and even give helpful suggestions and supplies to Charlie herself.

With Angel you often try tending to his wounds, talking to him, and trying to help him cope in a less destructive way than vices (Alcohol, Drugs, Smoking.)

He doesn't listen all the time but he does somewhat appreciate the sentiment.

The two fighting is mostly due to you being occupied with the other or the Overlords upset with you.

Vaggie tends to blame Angel for Val's actions towards you.

It's often a heat of the moment kind of thing, she doesn't entirely mean it but it slips.

Meanwhile Angel thinks Vaggie only cares about you due to Charlie.

Angel may even say Vaggie couldn't defend you from Alastor or that you're being used in some way.

It's all mostly petty but it ruins the bond between them.

Much to Charlie's dismay.

Alastor may comment on their behavior with you.

He muses that they act like lost children in your presence.

He finds it all very amusing.

He also finds it strange you managed to get them to both like you... even more so to this point.

He may even ask if you have ulterior motives, which you don't share.

Motives or not, the two probably would still care for you if they bicker this much over your "care".

Val just seems to get aggressive with you.

He claims you're stealing Angel from him, to which you decline.

You're merely helping Angel, which makes Val more frustrated.

The Vees are never good with their temper.

It's so easy for you two to fight.

You may even come back to the hotel with wounds, leaving Vaggie concerned and Angel guilty.

You help the two in many ways.

Be it from actual care or benefiting yourself... it yields the same result.

Charlie congratulates you for befriending them and helping the hotel...

Yet she is concerned about them at times.

Charlie often has to prevent the two from fighting.

She'd also be concerned about you and Val's fighting.

Both yandere are mostly overprotective.

Angel may also be clingy when he's vulnerable but he tries not to be.

This rivalry, as petty or light as it is, comes with many moving parts.

You're less concerned with Vaggie and Angel... and more concerned about the other bonds they have and how you complicate them.

I don't know, I no doubt overcomplicated the request, but it's genuine thoughts and concerns I have when thinking of these two.

Overall, I feel their rivalry is more petty than anything.

They themselves wouldn't hurt you as you're an Overlord... but the two end up hating each other.

It's a bit difficult for me to see them fighting though... as due to how complicated these dynamics are, the two would probably just learn to share.

You help them both, they help you, they may not need to fight.

Even if they shared though... I can see arguments occurring due to Alastor and Val.

The two wouldn't be able to kidnap you or manipulate you too much.

Murdering people for you? Sure, I can see that.

They're both protective and capable... but would they need to?

Lesser demons don't come near you and they can't kill Overlords.

Oof... you having the Overlord title in general makes this complicated too....

Vaggie is protective and isolating, wanting you to focus on the hotel more than Angel to make Charlie happy.

She makes herself your personal assistant, ushering you to focus on her, Charlie, and the hotel. Not Angel or Alastor.

To her, this is how you two bond.

She doesn't mind sharing with Charlie... but she tries not to allow you any more time with the others.

Angel is not only protective and clingy, but possessive.

He loves it when you just come to see him because you're concerned.

It gives him an ego.

He likes the attention so much that he'll lie to make you stay longer.

He's never felt more comfortable... and he uses this time to mess with Vaggie.

He's a distraction and he enjoys it.

Vaggie thinks Angel is hogging all of your attention... You have other things to attend to.

Meanwhile Angel accuses Vaggie of boring you and not giving you a choice on what to do.

You have your work cut out for you at the hotel, especially with these two so close to you...

i like to imagine that kook!reader is portrayed by actress!reader (as explored in drew starkey x actress!reader thoughts), but you could also just imagine them separately

rafe and kook!reader have been friends since childhood, their parents being good family friends, but grew closer following the death of rafe’s mother and reader’s brother while they were both in high school

whereas rafe gravitated more towards drugs and partying to cope with the loss of his mother, reader gravitated more towards rafe

reader was definitely more “polished” than rafe and kept a fairly good reputation despite constantly hanging out with the kook king. however, that didn’t mean she was always such a role model, smoking the occasional blunt or letting rafe do a line off of her when they’re both drunk out of their minds

whenever one of the two was invited to some big event, the other was forced to go along with them. if one of them was going to have to suffer through hours of stuffy small talk, they would both have to. it didn’t really matter too much though, most of the time they would end up sneaking off to walk along the beach or smoke

as they grew older, and rafe’s addictions grew stronger, reader tried multiple times to convince him to get clean. he’d always promise, but then that weekend she’d see him doing another line

they had fought multiple times about rafe’s dangerous behavior, typically ending with him saying something out of line and reader leaving, telling him to talk to her when he figures his shit out 

no matter how mad they were at each other, the time apart was excruciating. eventually, whether a few hours or a week depending on how bad their fight was, one of them would show up at the others house with coffee and an understood apology between them (usually rafe)

it all came to a head when one night she found him on her porch with bloodshot eyes, kicked out by his own father after he had stolen some of his money to buy more coke

she had gotten him a change of clothes from the items she had stolen from him over the years, forced him to take a cold shower, then sat up with him as he sobbed, pouring his heart out about everything. his addictions, his mom, the voices, his… feelings towards her. reader had had a pretty good idea of what he was going through, but hearing him, and seeing him like this, broke her heart

she told him that they’d talk about this in the morning when he was sober, to which he nodded and buried his head in her shoulder, crying himself to sleep as reader softly ran her fingers through his hair

when reader woke up the next morning, rafe was gone. she checked her phone, seeing no texts or calls from him, and ran downstairs to look for him. she didn’t have to look too far, as he was in the kitchen making pancakes and chatting with reader’s father

once they had finished breakfast, the two headed back upstairs to talk:

“i’m so sorry about—” “rafe last night—” “no you go first—” “you go—” “goddamnit.” they both chuckled.

rafe apologized for dumping his heart out and reader apologized for not noticing sooner… or telling him that she felt the same way earlier too

regardless of her feelings, however, reader was firm that, if they wanted to start to explore this (whatever this was), rafe would have to get help. no excuses.

rafe agreed, and that afternoon he scheduled an appointment with the therapist reader had begged him to see all those years ago

while the road to recovery wasn’t necessarily a straight or easy one, reader stuck with him through it all. 

slowly, reader began to see the rafe she remembered from childhood: the smiley, adventurous boy that always made her laugh. the rafe she had fallen in love with all those years ago, and the one she continued to fall deeper in love with everyday

I found a really interesting premise that I think you would execute perfectly. The IPC has established a "mental and emotional health department" basically therapists to help with the stressed out or traumatised IPC worker and it's a mandatory thing to have one visit with them. The reader works in this department and when Topaz, Aventurine and Ratio (separately) went in, all probably thinking it's pointless. Reader proceed to read them like a book to the mineut details of their issues. How would they react? Would they come back for another visit?

I feel like he would be a bit taken aback at first.

He didn't expect you to go further than a few generic questions about how the latest missions have affected him and suddenly you're asking about his feelings regarding the IPC recurring him.

"Weren't you disappointed? Didn't you feel like your cooperation with the IPC symbolizes you drifting further away from joining The Genius Society? How do you view The Genius Society in general?"

It's a bit too personal for his liking but he has to admit that you are truly an expert in your field.

I can see him rather harshly asking why are you stepping out of the line with your questions since it's hardly concerns the topic of the therapy session. Not because he's too troubled by you seeing through him but simply because of the professional ethics.

When you elaborate that it's the IPC's request to make a full psychological portrait of their workers he just sighs.

His answers are short, he doesn't elaborate much. Sometimes he simply says that the topic you mentioned doesn't affect his mental state in a way that can prevent him from doing his job and leaves it at that.

He doesn't trust the IPC much since he knows better than giving a powerful organization information about his weaknesses. He does feel a certain level of respect towards you and your professionalism though.

Doesn't feel targeted or overly vulnerable even if it leaves a bitter taste in his mouth to hear his insecurities being acknowledged.

Wouldn't show up again. Mostly because of his distrust to the IPC tho.

There's just so much to unpack really.

If you try to ask him about how he feels almost dying at each mission, he downplays it.

If you ask about his childhood trauma, he shrugs it off.

I don't know how many people saw his interview for anan but everytime he's asked about something personal he brings up how he's actually lucky and hiw he should be grateful. So you get tve spirit.

Doesn't matter what your question is, his answer is the same. He survived, he was loved by his family, all his suffering led him to this, so of course he's grateful what are you taking about ha ha!

Look at his voicelines too, praising the IPC and all that. He gives you this generic answers and hopes you'll buy it.

Well you don't but you also can't force him to answer more honestly.

He himself would be deeply troubled by you reading him like that. He feels weak, defenseless. Like all he has done to protect his inner self was for nothing since you can see through him like that.

0/10 experience he won't show up ever again. Nothing personal against you, he just can't do it. Plus he doesn't trust the ipc either so.

Topaz

Honestly the most normal one.

She will at least try to be honest since she trusts the IPC (maybe a bit too much, which is also a coping mechanism and not the healthiest one, but you can't really call her out on this since you're working for the ipc and, let's be honest, they would not respect their workers' privacy, they WOULD force you to give them their personal information if needed and you don't want to make it worse for Topaz)

She may be a bit taken aback at first but it honestly feels good to talk about her struggles and inner conflicts. And I'm sure she has a lot of those since she's actually trying to do good things, still believing that the IPC can bring positive changes.

Will probably share her experience in Belobog with you.

Will use your meetings as an opportunity to sort out her feelings about her missions.

Has a lot of respect for you personally and actually tries to do some soul-searching to make your meetings more productive.

Hey so did family odd parents get a new series? Who’s the purple hair guy you ship with who I assume is Timmy. I just stumbled upon you blog by chance and I want to know what’s up with your blorbos.

Who are these people and why do I recognize them?

welcome, welcome! i'll be happy to tell you all about it :) i'll try to keep it short:

to recap, the original fairly oddparents show mainly revolved around timmy turner, a 10-year-old boy who was given magical fairy godparents who'll grant his every wish to help him cope with his miserable life. in the show, his found family of fairies consists of cosmo (godfather), wanda (godmother), and poof/peri "purple hair guy" (baby godbrother). the show aired on nickelodeon from 2001 - 2017, and it was popular enough that even people who didn't actively watch it might recognize it

the new series, fairly oddparents: a new wish, takes place decades after the original show's events. it follows a similar premise with a (mostly) new main cast of characters: hazel (protagonist), dev (deuteroganist), and their fairies. cosmo and wanda came out of their 10,000 year retirement to godparent hazel, and dev later on acquired a now-adult peri as his godparent

peri (originally named poof), for the entirety of the original airing, was only shown as a perfectly marketable sphere baby. so when he showed up as an actual adult with design elements taken from both his parents blended in a unique, balanced way, with a personality reminiscent of pilot cosmo (suave gentleman)... something changed inside me

as for the ship, i think you've mistaken dale with timmy

it's the brown hair and blue eyes. don't worry, if i didn't know the lore prior, i could believe this was the same character too!

timmy is peri's brother, and they've been raised as such since peri was born. they were separated after timmy lost his godfamily (and his memories) sometime after growing up and becoming independent. godparents are only ever temporary, afterall. these siblings are made especially tragic by the fact that timmy is the reason peri was born— fairies were banned to have children, until timmy wished for cosmo and wanda to have one because he wanted to see them happy

meanwhile, dale is dev's father, completely unrelated to timmy. He's an antagonist, a terrible father, and the reason for dev's misery. he first appeared as a one-off character in the original show as a poor child laborer who got trafficked into a sweatshop working for a lemonade factory (i cannot make this up). in the current show, he's an irredeemable rich jerk for who i hold absolutely zero respect for. but, from a character perspective, he's fun to watch, and i love it when he shows up to ruin my mood

the shipping comes from the fact that peri and dev gets separated by the end of the first season, so lots of people headcanon that peri came back for dev by disguising himself as his human babysitter, which he'd of course have to be hired for...

those circumstances make for very interesting potential conflicts and dynamics, so it's not hard to see why some might take to it

(lots of people have shouted at me and made it abundantly clear that i may have accidentally fanned the flames for that one, whoops

it's hilarious, because i don't actually care much for the peridale ship at all. i might draw more, but it's far from what i like about the franchise)

a new wish was well received because it took many issues people had with the original and improved upon it. they gave cosmo and wanda a healthier dynamic, for one (it essentially used to be full of "i hate my wife" and "my husband is a moron" jokes, which didn't work well in the long run). the people working on it has also shown clear passion for the project, which i don't see much with show revivals these days. the jokes land and the emotional moments have their weight, and above all, it does it's job at being entertaining

for a show i didn't think much about as a child, a new wish has done well to revive my passion for absolutely overanalyzing and reading up upon every little thing within a franchise. it's kind of rare that i rant and rave about a show this often. the only other contender that reaches this level of insanity being... well, niche enough that i dont get the chance to talk about it online, unfortunately

but yeah, that's the gist of it! i hope i was able to satiate your curiosity

Chainsaw Man Chapter 148 not so early analysis

Bit later than usual cause college and I wanted to look into something from part 1.

Fumiko has been continuing the trend of being absolutely useless in every situation shes ever been put in to the point I feel confident in saying she CANT fight. This clearly isn't a kobeni situation where she can fight if necessary because she hasn't even really been trying to fight or protect anyone. It's the point I've actually started to believe the theory that Fumiko is actually Aldo in disguise.

For a refresher Aldo was one of the american assassin brothers who got picked off at the beginning of the arc by Power and Yoshida respectively. However Aldo survived the entire arc and has been awol ever since. He's also surprisingly durable since he survived both of these attacks with minimal injury.

He may or may not have been hit by halloween, Given his facial expression I it seems like he's faking it especially since Halloween was used on the doll devil and so should logically only effect her dolls which Aldo is not.

I went back through these chapters expecting to find a smoking gun that could prove this to be true. Specifically I was looking for a scene where he or one of the brothers was holding an ID card which could be matched against the way Fumiko holds it, But I did not find that.

This is the best I found but it's also standard practice so it isn't good evidence. Back to the chapter itself, It's clear now Quanxi is just going through the motions

She's clearly been lacking when it comes to combat and athletics in these previous few chapters in comparison to her original appearance. She's been sort of stumbling through these chapters with the help of her regeneration. Which is a bit strange until you keep in mind; Quanxi is more than likely SUPER depressed. The last time we saw her before this was when she fought Denji and the previous time before that was when everyone she cared about got murdered by Makima. It's probable that she blames herself for it because she took the job to kill Denji and thus got her and the girls into the situation that killed them in the first place.

The transition between these two pages is so good I had to do a double take because my immediate though was that Quanxi was the one who got her arm cut off. But then obviously it's Asa's. You can feel the inspiration from good movie transitions here.

This whole scene is very cool and also very interesting because Asa is able to block Yoshida's sword with her barehand. She got such an amp from the chainsaw fire attacks that she can do this. It also means she has basically the same base stats as yoru. Which is to be expected but I think is interesting.

It seems like this page was drawn before the rest of the one in this sequence because Yoshida is busting through a wall here despite the fact Room 606 was just destroyed; Thus there should be no wall to bust through to escape onto the street. Interestingly the other personality is absent in this scene entirely. We never see Yoru and Asa in the same panel which is an interesting choice. Its probably a creative choice to only have one of them around in major action scenes. Feels like a good time to mention a theory I saw on twitter. I've been trying to find it but I've had no luck. If I can find it it'll probably be apart of next week's post. To summarize the theory; Asa and Yoru are the same entity. Not two separate beings in one body. Asa the human we met at the beginning of part 2 has been dead since the justice (fire) contract user killed her. The Asa we see now is a split personality reconstructed using the intact memories in the body's brain at the time she became a fiend. If true it means Asa is an alternate persona created by Yoru in order to cause more conflict within herself (constant internal warfare) and as a coping mechanism due to the chainsaw devil massacre in hell. Its an interesting theory I want to put on the board incase something happens with it especially since Yoru is growing in strength rapidly. Probably how Black Pochita was schooling them during it.

Eve's post is still fresh on my mind, so it got me thinking about how DJSS and Eve are very similar - like, two sides of the same coin, or two opposites in the same spectrum. But before I get carried away, let's talk about DJSS.

Out of all megastars within NSR, DJSS is very clearly the one with the least amount of connections to other characters, at least in the way he's presented in-game. Like, all of them are connected to NSR and Tatiana because they work for her, that's obvious - but the Sayu Gang have each other, Yinu has her parents, Neon J has 1010, Eve and DK West both have Zuke and Tatiana/NSR respectively. Tatiana has Kliff, the Goolings and Mayday.

DJSS is just. There?

Maybe it's because he's the tutorial boss, but very similarly to Eve, themes of loneliness and not being appreciated enough or understood are prominent in his background. The casettes literally show him spiraling from an underappreciated but very passionate teacher to a very influential but egocentric megastar.

There's just something about how DJSS and Eve share loneliness as a theme. And how both of them also fully embody their work, becoming a personification of their craft and passions so that their self-worth and identity is DIRECTLY tied to how said passions are received and perceived. To others, music and art are simply an extension of themselves, an important part of their lives, not the whole of it. But DJSS and Eve? You can't separate them from their work. Again, the Sayu Gang are a bunch of teens bonding over a shared interest. Yinu is a megastar BECAUSE of her family, not by CHOICE, she plays the piano FOR her deceased father. Neon J is, first and foremost, a war veteran and protector of Vinyl City before he is a musician, even if dancing and music are his passions.

There is also something to be said about how their respective journeys are opposites of each other yet end the same way. They've gotten what they've wanted, but they're stagnant and unfulfilled.

We see DJSS starting as a starry-eyed teacher, thanking the THREE students AND A JANITOR who came to his lessons because he's grateful for anyone who will listen to him. He's using his passion and work to teach others and expand their minds and whatever other cool one-liners he says in his videos and cutscenes. This directly mirrors Eve, who starts as a self-loathing, deeply insecure artist who uses art as a way to cope and vent. (If you read my Eve post, throwback to the duality theme - outside and inside. DJSS is channeling his work to the world, to the outside. He's looking for people who understand him. Nadia is channeling her work to herself, to the inside. She's looking to understand herself.)

The middle part of their whole journey shows a moment of introspection and healing for both of them.

DJSS reconnects with his love for music and the reason he even became a teacher in the first place - not out of love for teaching (which is another point I wanna talk about later in this post) but for a genuine love and intrigue for the universe. After years of trying to get anyone to listen, he finally remembers how it feels to look up at the sky. He finds a way to merge both music and space as a means to further his goal.

Eve heals because she believes she's found someone who can complete her, someone who isn't herself but who can understand and see her just as good. She doesn't hide her pink side, she doesn't hide her face with her hair, she is shown to be very, very lively, excited and intense. This is the moment she realizes she can be understood and loved, all the things she saw as impossible before meeting Zuke. Her art reflects this, she can now focus on something other than hating herself.

(It's very important to me that we remember her heart piece with Zuke is made out of recycled bottles. Both DJSS and Eve were shown to have this thing for helping others - DJSS through teaching and Eve through art.)

And then, their last collectible shows them at their worst.

DJSS has finally managed to be influential enough to have thousands of people actually pay attention to what he's saying. And he explicitly says that, even though he's gotten this far, he feels empty. And he feels empty because all of his work will disappear, because he will be forgotten in a few generations. And we see how music has replaced his love for the universe, it's a subtle shift in which DJSS goes from wanting to learn and teach others about something he's deeply passionate about from wanting his music and hard work to live on forever through space.

There's a metaphor somewhere in there about DJSS' legacy being not his work as a teacher, astrophycisist or even a pillar of the EDM movement - but a few of his songs. Attached to an NSR satellite. Going through the empty void of space.

And then there's Nadia, all alone again. Because she's gotten so comfortable with the idea of being understood, that she expected Zuke to see everything the same way she did, and therefore setting his hair on fire wouldn't be that big of an issue. And this is her worst fear, but it doesn't hurt as much as she thought it would - because she's expected this to happen at some point, even when she was at her happiest with Zuke.

I want to draw a line between this moment and the way their loneliness permeates in their words and actions - DJSS who has tried for years to reach out to like-minded people, finally has an audience that respects him, he still feels unfulfilled and empty. And he further distances himself from everything by setting his sights and his legacy on THE COLD VACUUM OF SPACE. Eve, who has always believed she would end up alone, IS NOW ALONE AND ABANDONED (from her perspective anyways, since it would be unfair to say Zuke was a horrible monster for leaving a relationship this complex) and yet she doubles down on finding someone like her.

DJSS states that no one is able to think like him, no one within NSR shares his ambition nor vision - he's resigned. Eve states that she will bring everyone to her level one way or another - she's desperate. Two sides of the same coin. Two extreme opposites in the same spectrum.

It all boils down to believing that somewhere out there, whether in Vinyl City or the universe, there's someone who can really appreciate them.

The two conceal a sense of inferiority, the difference being that Eve's comes from a place of pure, genuine hatred for herself (if her work can't be understood, she can't be understood. if her work can't be appreciated, she can't be appreciated) and DJSS' comes from a place of blind confidence in his own potential and ideas (if his work cannot be understood, it's because no one has the ability to understand it. if his work cannot be appreciated, it's because no one is sensible enough to appreciate it).

There is also something about how, at their worst and/or when they feel threatened, they seem to switch?

This is most notable in Eve's boss fight, in which she acts condescending and dismissive to both Mayday and Zuke - saying all the things she knows will hurt just for the sake of hurting Zuke. She establishes her superiority over those who can't understand her, similar to how DJSS treats B2J initially. And in DJSS' case, hints of this reversal can be heard in his casettes, already explained above. He somewhat resembles Eve during her final section, a resigned and numb acceptance to being alone.

I think these two would be friends because they would be able to recognize their similarities - not openly address them, mind you, that's too much for either of them to handle - but enough to just chill with each other. There is an underlying feeling of understanding between them, even if all they do is hang out to do superficial things, gossip or rant about work.

And I like to think they're both fine with this arrangement, because sometimes people need relationships that aren't mentally or emotionally exhausting or intense! Sometimes you just need a buddy who shares a similar trauma that neither of you will address and who wants to go bitch about Stacy from HR! It's an unlikely friendship that surprises everyone, but once they stop to think about it, it just makes sense for them to click - at least with the façades they present to the world.

No matter how hard he tries to rebrand, DJSS knows that he'll always be a teacher at heart. Not necessarily a good one, but a teacher anyway.

TOOK ME FUCKING YEARS TO GET TO THIS POINT BUT ANYWAY.

I really like that one post I saw through the NSR tag about how DJSS makes sense as the tutorial boss because he used to be a teacher, we can assume that there was a time in his life where he loved to teach and shape the minds of the future generations. It's a little meta connection that makes sense to me!

And I like to think that this is something that DJSS can't ever get rid of - the need to just teach. It can come across as DJSS not being able to shut his mouth when it comes to telling people why they're wrong and why he's right, but at the end of the day, he's still trying to clarify misconceptions and teach others new things. It just happens through layers and layers of his condescending attitude.

Of course, this also doesn't apply to just teaching, it applies to learning as well.

DJSS strikes me as someone curious and very driven, instead of asking others why, he sets out to find out answers himself - either because it's easier and faster, because he has something to prove, because of he's so full of autism and hyperfixates easily or whatever other reasoning you like the most.

I like the idea of a DJSS who knows his worth and knows he shouldn't bother trying to argue with people who clearly don't care about facts, logic and research, let alone putting the effort to learn or have an open mind - those simpletons who aren't worth his time - but still struggles with keeping his mouth shut.

During his boss fight, he immediately dismisses B2J because they're small fry, they're not even here for him, they're here for inconsequential reasons that he doesn't have time for. Why should he even entertain them? AND THEN HE DOES. HE GETS RILED UP AND JUST GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT HIS ENDEAVORS AND GOALS ANYWAY.

He REALLY reads as a guy who makes the funniest of jokes and can't help but explain them anyway - and he gets away with it most of the time.

Very organized, detail-oriented person, loves routine and to plan things beforehand. DJSS cannot stand spontaneous decisions and has a hard time adapting to sudden changes.

Sometimes it might be easy to forget that DJSS is most likely the smartest member of NSR as a whole, specifically because of the way he acts and presents himself typically - even if he makes a point of constantly reminding others of his intellect and academic achievements. But! Nothing escapes DJSS' keen vision.

Out of other members of NSR, Tatiana trusts DJSS the most to keep up with his responsibilities as charter and many other projects benefitial for the company, like the rocket launch! He's proven time and time again that he's more than competent to be left to his own devices. Even if he doesn't care much for the other megastars, he still shows up on time for meetings and speaks his mind on things that need addressing (that he considers worth addressing, at least), never pulling his punches when offering his opinion.

Literally that kind of annoying coworker that loves to nitpick and someone you don't get along with but who makes the best points and arguments ever.

I like to think this is reflected in his position in Vinyl City - he's the furthest away from the NSR Tower, because he requires little to no supersion at all. He's also closest to the heart of Vinyl City: Festival Plaza and the Grand Qwasa, maybe because he can absolutely take care of any problems that might arise with it.

Even if he's extremely dismissive, DJSS does remember the people he works with - mostly based on their skills and how useful they are, just so he can know who to send away and who to keep around. He doesn't remember your name, but he remembers that you're competent enough to do a quick check on his turntables or other equipment. That sort of thing.

DJSS likes when things go his way, the way he expects things to be, the way he planned them out to be. He thinks of every possible outcome and prepares for it, without going overboard as to hinder his progress. So he can live with someone on his team messing up the rocket launch procedure - because that was already something he expected that would happen, even if he throws a little fit about it. But he can't deal with suddenly being told that someone else will handle the rocket launch entirely - because that's just not a possibility in his mind.

I can see DJSS being a fan of to-do lists or spreadsheets to stay on top of his game. He doesn't need them, he remembers everything he needs to, but hey, it's a fun flex!

I also just remembered one of the interactable things in Cast Tech - a drone that Zuke comments on, saying:

 "It must have crashed from all the conflicting signals. DJ Subatomic Supernova really likes the idea of blasting his signal into space..."

Which makes me think that yes, DJSS is great at solving things, he's careful and meticulous, doing anything to ensure his success in whatever he sets out to do - but his tunnel vision makes him careless enough to overlook some of the most obvious things in the world. Like how blasting his own signal might disrupt every other drone in the city or mess with other machines.

And this whole point is totally not me subtly trying to write DJSS in a way that compliments the way I perceive Neon J because I think the ship is fun and their dynamic is even funnier, absoluTELY NOT LETS MOVE ON

Cast Tech is the most academic district in Vinyl City. Basically paradise for nerds.

The same way Eve supports the arts in Dream Fever by having a lot of galleries and art studios, it makes sense that DJSS would support academic endeavors by having schools and other academic institutions, funding people's research and etc. It's another little thing that ties in with his background as a teacher.

In-game, Cast Tech is basically a short main road with two or three paths that lead to small areas. It's very lackluster compared to the rest of districts and I blame that on the way the game is structured, showing the boss first and then the district - plus the fact that DJSS is the tutorial boss so by proxy, he gets less content. But it's serviceable enough for the main plot in the game, which is to show us that NSR can be superficial, shallow and careless company.

And I'd like to argue that, maybe, the area Mayday and Zuke go through within Cast Tech, is not meant to be representative of the entire district. It feels more like an area meant for tourists or general NSR propaganda that ended up flopping massively because people weren't that interested?

DJSS is a megastar, sure, but he's not shown being that much of a public figure outside of advertisement. Compare him to any other member - Sayu and 1010's popularity rely on their fanbase, because they're public figures. Eve is an artist, we also see her dabble in all types of art, not just music, even fashion! Yinu is a literal child, but she's still in advertisements for healthy food and drinks.

Did you notice how Cast Tech and Club Planetarium are the only places that lack NPCs? Unique NPCs to be more exact, like Celine in Dream Fever, Mia in Festival Plaza, Yiruk in Metro Division, etc. People who most likely live there?

Once again, DJSS is an outlier. It makes sense to me that, even though this area has a statue of him and a store selling products based on him, literally just revolving around him, playing his advertisements and etc it's not... That important overall within his district. Even the Planetarium where he hosts concerts has a bunch of small stores outside, nothing grand. Even though it's HIS district, he's NOT the focus, ironically.

I would love to get into details about how the actual district works and what goes around, but I dropped out of my bachelor's degree and I don't know enough about science to get super in-depth about it! So anyone who DOES know or wants to develop this more, feel free!

The Owl House x Wolf Children crossover aka “the AU I took too far.”

A picture of @stardustcandies Hunter werewolf au popped up on my fyp, I had a disconnected thought about Wolf Children a few hours later and then this happened.

To get some of the scenes to line up with either Hunter or Luz, I had to break some canonical eggs between Ame and Yuki’s scenes. But also, sound off if you recognize some of the scenes I tried to replicate.

Also also just Lineart and some flat colors for now. M ight come back and clean it all up later.

My disjointed thoughts on this au are essentially “it’s Wolf Children, but swap shapeshifting for wild magic, except shapeshifting is also a huge association. Case and point, Edna’s owl beast transformation.” And Luz and Hunter are Eda’s kids, adopted separately. While she’s early into raising them, Eda is found/starts reconnecting with an old lover, Raine. Raine’s always known Eda was a wild witch with the enhanced ability to transform into the Owl Beast, something that’d frightened them away previously, along with a healthy dose of communication and trust issues between both parties. Upon reconnecting, they take things slower than in their youth, however, just as they’re truly starting to see eye-to-eye, Eda dies, leaving a heartbroken Raine and two already-orphaned and traumatized young kids who both have heavy traces of wild magic.

In keeping with the movie plot line, Raine eventually gives up his future and career with the Bard coven and goes into hiding/moves to the Knee or something, to raise Hunter and Luz. Wild magic is heavily persecuted in this au, and displays of shape shifting, even in young witches without any proper training, is regarded with great suspicion. And considering they’re already out of their depth with parenting, Raine doesn’t want to take any chances. Queue Raine growing into a supportive and loving parents for Eda's two adopted strays and eventually weaving back in his Bard talents and continuing to learn more about wild magic and Eda along the way.

Prior to being adopted by Eda, Hunter was fed the story that wild magic wipes out his biological family and his shape shifting abilities were a residual curse. As far as he’s been told/remembers, he got that first scar on his face from that incident. Trauma aside, Hunter is also very self conscious about it, up to the point of really disliking his reflection in mirrors, crystals, and windows as a kid, so he wore a golden wolf-themed mask for a while to help him cope. As he’s gotten older, he’s grown out of needing it. While Luz leaned heavily into their shape-shifting abilities and is enthralled by wild magic, Hunter tried to suppress it. He would indulge Luz and her curiosity while they were both young, but, upon starting school and being exposed to more "acceptable" outlets of magic, he starts trying to keep a tighter control on his phasing abilities, only spontaneously changing when overwhelmed by emotions or stressed. Jump forward to his class getting a new student, Gus, who'd jumped up a couple grades and, being an illusionist, immediately hones in on Hunter, asking him questions and just being generally nosy. Hunter eventually gets overwhelmed and, feeling cornered, partially phases and scratches Gus's face, very close to his eye and potentially a huge detriment for a budding illusionist. Years later, we get the same iconic classroom scene with Hunter, having run away due to some fear of being outed as a wild witch/Luz has just announced her intention of leaving to be fully wild and Hunter fears persecution due to familial association, and is found by Gus, partially transformed, who reveals he'd known the whole time but held no ill-will.

Luz, on the other hand, although interested in magic, was always most interested in the type of magic Eda practiced. Luz being the youngest, she wasn't old enough to remember much about Eda's magic and instead has to rely on Raine, who doesn't much to satisfy her curiosity. When she was early school-age, while playing in the grass, Luz found a wild Snake Shifter, Stringbean, who eventually guides her to the Titan (or the corporeal Titan spirit) who helped to teach her about wild magic and glyphs. Enraptured by these lessons, Luz began to prioritize this sort of magic study over the "certified magic study" through school. The Titan's magic has been weakening for years, and thus their corporeal form fading, which will leave Luz without a teacher and the Titan's infant son, King, without a parent. Eventually Luz decided to make the leap of leaving Raine and Hunter to go into the wilds to continue study and maintenance of the wild glyphs that help hold the world together and be a placeholder until King is old enough to succeed his father. I've also had the thought that, through the study and use of structural glyph magic, Luz's wolf form continues to shift into a titan form. She herself is still a witch, but the close proximity and use of the Titan's magic causes her to become more and more Titan-like/it's the lingering effect of the Titan before their corporeal spirit fades so Luz can be there and teach King.

So having written a "Elizabeth Cross lives" AU I can't stop thinking through a version of Dead Space 2 with her in it.

My premise would probably be that they get separated soon after both getting transported from their shuttle to the Sprawl -- let's say Isaac gets stuck in EarthGov's Marker-building program, but Cross gets taken by Unitologists almost immediately, instead of them hunting down Isaac a few years later. Cross spends the inter-game period playing along with Daina and the Church, on the chance it could help her get to Isaac, while Isaac assumes she's dead and is sort of busy with the whole traumatic medical torture and hallucinating his dead girlfriend situation anyway.

Anyhow, the necromorph outbreak happens in the Sprawl, and Daina guides Isaac to the Church of Unitology like in canon, at which point he somehow meets up with Cross. (There's the potential there for some interesting questions about whether Isaac thinks he can still trust her, given his opinions about Unitology.) They've presumably both got Marker dementia, but they can work as foils with very different approaches for dealing with it -- my version would be that Cross has found a way to live with the aftermath of Aegis VII while Isaac is still (understandably!) a total disaster.

And now we're getting into the realm of things that can only work in fanfic, but fuck it, Isaac/Ellie/Cross all get together! There's no DS3-style awkward love triangle here, they are a three-person team composed of a constantly hallucinating grief-stricken engineer, an also insane but resigned to being chill about it botanist, and a pilot who's just showing up to this party and trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. All of whom spend most of the story separated but in contact with each other.

Incidentally Stross is still here in this version, but instead of an obviously dangerously delusional murderer, he's initially played as a helpful figure who seems to have gotten stuck in Isaac's Marker program by accident, until we get a slow reveal that he's in far worse shape than any of them.

I think in this version Isaac's relationship with his Hallucination GIrlfriend is mostly the same, but the question is whether Cross has a similar experience with a Hallucination Boyfriend. My impulse says yes, in a way that acts, again, as a foil for Isaac -- instead of being constantly at war with him, she's potentially just decided to live with the fact that there's this terrifying thing inside her head and has found strategies to cope without ever really healing. But there might be better options.

And then, because this is fanfic: yes, they all end up in a relationship after DS2, and at the beginning of the next game Isaac is incredibly depressed because his girlfriends went off Marker-hunting together.

Like I know shonen isn’t that well known for their great female characters’ writing, in fact the only one I can think where all the female characters are well written and have importance is Fullmetal Alchemists, and the author is a woman.

I do heard that Bleach have great female characters, but I haven’t watched/read it so I can’t judge.

Anyway, I’m so disappointed with how Gege is treating the female cast as of late. Like jjk has such good promise during the Kyoto vs Tokyo arc. With the set up of how Nobara’s is being unsympathetic with her black and white thinking. The set up between the nuanced conflict between Mai and Maki! The set up with Miwa on how a normal person would basically be like in the jujutsu world. And they aren’t sexualized! A rarity in shonen!

However, so far only Miwa seems to have a fully fleshed out arc. Like despite her limited screen time, Miwa have went through so much lost and we get to see her thoughts and regrets as a result. We even she her resolve near the end of Shibuya on how she will give it her all!

Compare that to the others… Well Mai’s death personally left a bad taste in my mouth, since not only I found the twins explanation to be terrible but it ruins the whole conflict by having it be simplified in like the worst way possible. “Oh yeah, the reason why you’re not as strong, Maki, is because my coping of the trauma was apparently a bad thing. And my whole existence was the whole reason why you‘lol be forever half-assed, so I’m gonna die now.”

Like… I’m sorry… What?! Talk about victim blaming. Like Mai is actually really interesting, and can be utilized waaaay better than what the manga did. Is the nuanced conflict of the twins reacting/coping with their abuse differently, as two separate people not compelling??? Is the notion of no such thing as a bad victim nor good victim, not the whole point of Maki and Mai??? The twin taboo explanation just spit on the face of all of that!

And also… plot hole much? “In the Jujitsu world, cruse energy treat twins as one”, umm… what about Nanako and Mimiko? Both have vastly different curse techniques! What, are you gonna say that they don’t count since they are a different type of twins? Or like they were never twins?

Not only that, but Nobara is currently MIA, and like… even if she does come back… what’s her personal character arc gonna be about? Since Mai is dead, no one is really going to really challenge her limited world view now. I mean… I suppose there’s Momo, but like… I can’t really see that.

For Maki… I dunno, man. I’m currently on the fence with her current arc. Like, okay… it is very tragic that she wasn’t able to reconcile with Mai on time, and her snapping is a very dark turn for her. But like… the last time we say her, see seems… to be mostly fine? Well, maybe “fine” isn’t the right word… Maki is just… going through the motions? Like… we haven’t seen any negative consequences of her trauma at all yet. And the framing of the manga make it seems like she’s in a positive arc, which I’m not really a fan of.

And now Yuji is gonna be under utilized too, with the current chapter and all…

Ugh. Hopefully they would at least do Maki and Miwa more justice in the future, but I’m keeping my expectations low now.

This is a long post so rather than replying to every single thing you said, I'm going to try to build off what you say for a discussion.

So I've said before in previous asks that while the female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are kind of all the same type of female character they're all very brash, tough as nails women they are at least three dimensional characters, they have personality and personality flaws.

I think people tend to view characters as entities separate from the work they are a part of. People talk about reading series for their characters, or wanting to think about their faves, or find new blorbos. I sometimes joke that people treat anime and manga more like gacha to find new favorite characters like rolling for an SSR, taking characters outside of their narrative. I think people tend to value like, personality, backstory, things you can still enjoy about a character even as you take them outside of their story.

The female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are fine characters in their own right. If you take them outside of their stories they have emotional depth. Shoko is someone extremely emotoinally unavailable to the people around her, and only seems to care about her job as a doctor. Utahime is like the one good and responsible teacher in this manga who's adored by her students. Nobara has a clear ego problem, and is extremely self-righteous and feels little to no guilt for killing Choso's brothers in a pretty ruthless way.

Outside of the story they're fine. Inside of their story however, they're not really that important. Which is why I say characters are more than just their personalities or backstories. Characters themselves are stories, the author has to tell us about them in order to make us interested in the stories of their lives. Because anything can be a good idea for a character. It's kind of like how making an original character is one thing, but making a story, setting, and a character arc for that character is an entirely different and usually much hrader thing.

The greatest problem with women in Jujutsu Kaisen is not really that they are bad characters, but that they are badly written. They are not important narrative wise to the story they are a part of. Besides Mai and Miwa none of these characters really have screen time, or anything so basic as a character arc. They especially do not have character progression on the same level as their male counterparts. Like, just for example, all of the new characters introduced in the Culling Games only three of them are female, Kirara, Remi, and Angel. Kirara isn't even brought to fight in the games despite being the girlfriend to Hakari and having her cursed technique shown she has sidelines. Remi is pretty much just a damsel stereotype who's belittled by Megumi a man for being weak. Angel has gotten no screentime so far.

There are female characters who are also like, slaughtered gratuitiously for no other real reason than to just raise the stakes in a pretty shallow way. Sukuna slaughters Nanako and Mimiko in the most hideously brutal fashion, we got really nothing from that character death other than it was visceral and upsetting. Then there is the way Tsukumo Yuki dies, literally being cut in half. What is objectification if not women's bodies being treated as objects on the receiving end of particularly brutal and dehumanizing violence. Like, was there a single male character sans like, the victims of Mahito who was brutalized the way Nanamimiko and Tsukumo Yuki were?

So it's not really a problem with the characters themselves outside of their narrative, but how they are treated by their narratives as less important and more expednable than their male counterparts. Its not even really the fact Nobara isn't like, the chosen one the same way Megumi is, or even obsessed with saving the people the way Yuji is. Nobara could have had as much character depth as Yuji and Megumi if the narrative gave her the same kind of focus and attention they got. There's nobody more stupidly overcomplicated than a normal teenage girl, but Gege is either uninterested or unwilling in exploring her point of view.

We get to a point where women are literally half the population and there's literally like no reason why people should have trouble writing female characters because you know... you write them the same way you would write male characters, they are just people with thoughts and feelings. Yet not only is the point of view of a woman in the world underrepresented it's also treated by the narrative as something like special or different or hard to understand. Which results in a narrative where half of the characters are just... either underdeveloped or unnecessary and that's never a good thing.

i think theyre such an interesting duo because they're considered and welcomed as members of the mekakushi dan, but they both kind of arrive late.

these 2 and ayano are the ones who spent recent time inside the daze but ayano has her whole family and i think hiyori particularly feels. weird about ayano. because they're related.

THE THING ABT HIYORI or how i interpret her at least, she's conflicted about her family because. lol she had this secret sister her parents never told her about?? she suddenly finds out she has nieces and nephews?? she runs away to the city without them knowing?? what are ayaka and hiyori's parents like to cause this reaction on both their daughters...

ok im getting a bit off topic, this isn't a hiyori analysis BUT i say this to justify hiyori being a little weird with ayano+mekatrio. i think ayano especially would try ridiculously hard to have a relationship with hiyori... she's delighted about having MORE family, especially from her mom's side since it's always been like. a secret. ayano approaches her with the big sister mindset of course

but since she doesn't KNOW hiyori, she fumbles spectacularly. ayano's overexcited approach isn't well received by hiyori's conflicted feelings about not only the tateyamas but also everything that's happened to her. idk i think it would irk hiyori that ayano just ASSUMES they're gonna get along and be best friends. i think generally, post str hiyori is more of her serious side and not so much the cheerful act anymore. i think it's there for when she's taking it easy especially around momo for example. but otherwise...hiyori's rly serious i think

ON THE OTHER HAND, there's hibiya and momo. i think thats who hiyori is the closest to/normalest to in the dan, BUT THE THING IS... hibiya and momo are already closer to each other than they are to her. ofc we can argue it with hibiya, ive always and will always choose to interpret hibiya and hiyori as childhood friends so hibiya is in fact this person she's relied on and been with for her whole life!! and they most definitely deal with separation anxiety post str lmao and share a unique bond

BUT in the trio that forms with hibiya hiyori and momo, hiyori can tell they're close. hiyori is jealous by both sides because wtf that's KISARAGI MOMO and she's my best friend :3 but she's bester friends with HIBIYA?!?!? WTF IM HER BIGGEST FAN THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. bur also... hibiya is MY best friend not HER best friend. so its double jealousy LOL nowadays hibiya finds comfort in momo rather than on her bc he doesn't wanna trouble her, he's always been the crybaby of the two and hiyori's always had to pick him up... anyways she enjoys her time with them but DOES harbor some jealousy and feeling like an outcast

ANYWAYS that's where I'd start talking about haruka. ok kind of. im still talking about hibiya and hiyori. i think hibiya and hiyori feel completely different about the konoha situation... i honestly see it being in all sorts of ways, them accepting it or them being against haruka, both having the same opinion or different, etc. BUT PERSONALLY i like the idea that hibiya is completely and utterly against haruka's existence and thinks it's unfair konoha had to go. while hiyori is more understanding and defends haruka. i think it's a huge point of division for hibiya and hiyori... not to the point of causing a fallout or anything but it's a thing they know are in disagreement about.

i think it comes from different coping methods and the different circumstances they were in. like... hibiya's more with the urgency/denial and rly acts his age about it. like with him being convinced hiyori IS SOMEWHERE and HAS TO BE FOUND AND SAVED but he also learns to let go and be open with momo. coming back to childhood friends hibihiyo i think hibiya wears his heart in his sleeve with hiyori, while hiyori acts like nothing is wrong and never opens up and would immediately assume killing is the immediate solution to someone seeing her cry. i like to think hiyori's so rough with hibiya because, and these are purely headcanons: 1. he was the one person to treat her normally and not like a princess, then stopped when he develops a crush on her 2. he is the only person who's seen her cry. so she's like AUGHHH

anyways back to the konoha thing, hibiya's really mourning him (everyone is, but hibiya is kind of an ass about it) while hiyori looks at it from a different perspective. she's like, konoha is why i'm alive he wouldn't want me to be angry. also that's ridiculous and furrowing my brow would give me wrinkles 🙄 and she knows haruka was in the daze too so she's like. i was in there too i know what it's like not to be chosen and be left behind, it's cruel and unfair. and she feels for him. quick sidetrack about whether or not the daze ppl can meet each other... apparently they can but MY PERSONAL hc is everyone can do that EXCEPT haruka because of his link to the outside world, or like ppl can come see him but he can't really go to other dazes bc he HAS to be looking through his own eyes outside at the same time so he cannot leave his own daze. as soon as saeru takes over his body and he can't see outside anymore his daze is open that's why he gets to interact with shintaro&ayano when they come get him. ANYWAYSSS i speak from a hc where hiyori and haruka never meet inside the daze but are aware of each other's circumstances. if they did meet inside the daze it just adds to hiyori having so much empathy for haruka but yeah personally i like the idea haruka was just alone for the 2(+hibihiyo timeloop he had to watch) years. its more tragic like that (gets booed)

bc of this hiyori does hear haruka out while hibiya doesnt give him A CHANCE. like really for hibiya it's just that he needs more time to understand and he just. he needs to be angry for a bit. because he's a middle schooler and being mad at everything and the world is kinda how it goes so of course hibiya needs a damn minute

from haruka's perspective he is also super attached to hibiya and hiyori. we rly don't talk enough about how haruka's access to view what konoha did means he spent a lot of one sided time with hibiya & hiyori. he's 100% attached to them!! same with the whole dan and the one sided friendship thing "omg theyre gonna want konoha not me" thing i always talk about❤️ but with hibiya and hiyori it's even more concrete because not only is he attached but!! he rly feels like he owes it to konoha to maintain a bond!! konoha is most likely the one in the passenger seat now, seeing through him... haruka is sure he wants to see hibiya and hiyori!!!

so hiyori does hear him out and find out he saw everything, even the kagerou days timeloop and idk....i think they'd bond over the konoha situation, being unchosen by the daze, joining the dan last, having people inside the dan they're very close to yet these people ARE close to the rest so they feel like outcasts... hiyori hates to (and wont) admit that she finds a kinship similar of momo and hibiya's, with haruka !! sniff sniff...they are. best friends.

i think when hibiya and hiyori visit they stay at shintaro and momo's place. hiyori is in the middle of the sibling dynamic of shintaro momo and hibiya and tbh SHES ALSO A PART OF THIS. SHE VERY EASILY FITS INTO THIS SIBLING BANTER they all act like siblings not to mention mrs kisaragi probably adopts the hell out of them so its like.literally family times. but hiyori will NEVER admit that bc 1. girl thats a lot 2. she kinda likes being dramatic. again middle schoolers be like fuck the world.. idk was that just me. i feel like hating the world when ur 13 is a pretty universal experience but maybe im wrong. anyways its a difficult age even when ur not in a timeloop so hiyoris going thru it

anyways thats to say she gets out to go see haruka a lot. so she goes to harutaka apartment and theyre ALWAYS home bc they work from home so she's like hi. im here to see ur cat. ( <- pretty true but also wants to hang out with haruka) and haruka's like :3 ok come in. and they eat and chat and HANG OUT AND THEYRE BEST FRIENDS. and hiyori even just stays there watching tv while haruka works. sometimes she wants to sleep over but is too embarrassed to ask. takane is also there❤️ ig bc of this a bond would form between them too but we arent talking abt that. but i do think hiyori's a little iffy with takane for being haruka's partner. not in the HE'S MINE way. i just think since hiyori and haruka are so close she's protective and she's like u break his heart i break ur legs😐<- from a 12 year old girl. takane would laugh but knows it comes from loving haruka which happens to be takane's expertise so she can respect the enthusiasm. but from hanging out there/finding out their backstory hiyori probably grows to like takane. but again she loves being dramatic so she still insists to be indifferent towards her. but also keeps urging them to get married. not cuz she cares abt them getting married but she wants to go to a wedding. loses all interest when they tell her they wouldn't care to have a wedding

AND A QUICK acknowledgment of hiyori having a crush on konoha. first of all i think it's funny as hell bc konoha is weird as fuck and she's like omg...so dreamy... but also it's that she thinks he's really cute, its not REALLY a crush. my friends in hs following the seniors they thought were cute kinda vibes. turning red movie when the girls all are obsessed with the guy working at the grocery store. jandkejfjejd it's just sweet and funny and since it's about his looks yeah it'd translate to haruka post str but yknow after everything that happened i dont think hiyori would be delusional abt crushing on him?? if it still happened though id think its funny. i think ayano would weaponise haruka to try to hang out with hiyori

- I have ADHD (among other issues) and executive dysfunction problems, and the way I've found best to cope with this is by doing things immediately; doing the dishes immediately after using them prevents food from getting stuck, they won't sit in the sink with food on them, and I only have to do a few dishes now rather than a bunch later

I admire anyone who can keep this up consistently. I tried so many times, and it only worked for a day or so. The only way I can keep my dishes from taking over is to limit them. If I have only one plate for everything, I either use it dirty, or I have to clean it before using it again. Same with bowls, glasses, etc.

- I collect various "tools" (interests, hobbies, skills, people) for fun and/or maybe it'll come in handy later? and I have a really hard time learning things when I HAVE to, even if I want to for practical reasons (this is related to the point above)

I don't think that's shifting. The way you describe it sounds more like a courtier badger highlighting different parts of yourself. But it's not a happy process for you, not something that feels right. I'm comfortable saying you're not snake sec, and you said yourself you don't think you're lion either. Maybe it helps if you think about it as actor bird's masks? Masks you can put down if you want to.

I'll think of the resources I have and what options are available. my biggest example is when we got into an accident and no longer had a vehicle; are there areas we can walk to nearby? what people do I know who are able to give me a ride somewhere? is there a taxi available, or uber? back when we had little money, I'd keep track of who I was able to ask for money for help with groceries. etc etc etc.

I hated how unsure everything was, but everything worked out and I was incredibly relieved and proud of myself

You're describing them as tools, which is a bird thing to do, but I would handle it just the same, and I think everyone would? If you have to, you get creative, whether you like it or not.

Alright, I’m back with some more assorted thoughts about the full results – several days later than I meant to, but ah well. I ended up doing some analysis on the effect of running order on televote, and it kind of got a bit out of hand… I’m going to put all that on a separate post though – here are just some more thoughts on the detailed voting.

First, I couldn’t find the full breakdown of the televote scores for the semis, they only listed the points given on the official site, and not the full televote order for any given country (at least as far as I could see – do let me know if I’ve missed something!) so I couldn’t find out where exactly the UK ended up ranking Romania and San Marino in the second semi. Maybe that’s for the best – both countries got nil points and I reckon they’re probably bottom two for just about every country voting. It’s a little sad, but also understandable, based on how the vast majority of people reacted to those two entries.

Iceland ended up 11th in semi final 2, although I can’t say they just missed out on qualification, not when there was a full 30 points between them and Estonia in 10th place. I was glad to see Power get some appreciation, and Echo being right behind it in 12th made sense too.

I talked about Latvia being 11th in semi 1 in my last post – but I also found it interesting that the Rest of the World gave them 8 points, even more than they gave Sweden! The Rest of the World vote also gave points to France and Spain in the finals – both songs highly rated by fans in the run-up to the contest, but (especially for Spain) snubbed by the main televote. It seems that this vote is enabling fans worldwide to get involved, and as far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing.

Perhaps the most upsetting result for me is seeing Malta come dead last in the first semi – Romania and San Marino I can cope with, I was sort of expecting it, but I really thought more people would vibe with Dance (Our Own Party), so it’s a real shame to see it score so low.

Looking at the full UK votes breakdown for the final, Serbia came 24th in the televote – since I voted for Serbia, I take full responsibility for them not coming dead last there! Usual suspects were near the top, Lithuania, Poland, though I was glad to see us give our televote 12 to Finland, along with the majority of Europe! Our juries did Finland so dirty though, all but one putting Kaarija in their bottom five! I know nothing about three of our jurors, but two were ex-girl group members, from All Saints and the Sugarbabes – fine people to have on a jury, but I think if there’s only going to be five members, having more than one member from the same background is a bad thing – you need more musical diversity than that.  

Perhaps the most notable thing in the voting was the way certain countries plummeted in the televote between the semis and the final. I already touched on Austria, since I thought the running order did not favour them, but Australia were also affected, winning the second semi, yet only getting 21 televote points in the final. I reckon what happened is that once Australia were competing against heavy-hitters from the first semi in the final, all their votes went to countries like Finland instead. It also really didn’t help that Australia were performing so soon after Finland – I think it affected Czechia too, who went from 110 points in the first semi to 35 televote points in the final.

One final thing I want to note, although I have no real explanation for it, just one of those quirks of Eurovision voting I guess, is that Belgium actually placed better in the final than in the semi – Gustaph came 8th in semi 2, but 7th in the final! Estonia did the same, Alika qualifying in 10th, but finishing 8th overall in the final, although this surprises me less, since her song seemed very jury friendly.

For this last week I’d like to present one of my secondary sources, which is a psychological study on Billie Eilish’s music that sheds light on how her songs resonate with the mental health struggles, especially of today’s youth. I’ve really enjoyed reading that one, even if you are not familiar with the artist it easily presents an interesting study of her art but also of psychology.  

The research uses Freudian psychoanalysis to explore the themes, lyrics, and even the visual storytelling of her work. The authors argued that her music goes beyond a personal storytelling to reflect broader social issues like loneliness, alienation or even grief. What’s striking is how these themes are not just relatable but also a massive symbol, representing a collective mental state of many young people today, which was initially part of my final theme

One of the studied theme how her songs often incorporate metaphors for depression. The study examines tracks like 'everything i wanted' and 'idontwannabeyouanymore' and identifies the key symbols of helplessness and internal conflict in general.

 In “everything i wanted,” the artist grapples with feelings of worthlessness and disconnection, despite her huge success, which captures the paradox many young people might feel in a hyper-competitive world. The lyrics “If I could change the way that you see yourself / You wouldn’t wonder why you hear they don’t deserve you” reflect not just a longing for acceptance but also the pressure she undergoes to mask vulnerability. Those songs are an emotional tug-of-war that can be felt both personally and universally, a major theme that the study notices as a marker of her artistic skills.

An even more compelling element is the way the study ties her soundscapes to these emotional narratives, Billie’s sparse arrangements and her whispered vocals that create an atmosphere of a suffocating introspection, erasing the barrier that separated us from the ‘outside’.  The rsearch notes how the minimalist productions evoked the feeling of being trapped within one’s own mind, that can be silent yet overwhelming. Her music (according to the study) isn’t just a reflection of depression; it immerses the listener in its whole experience. This creates cathartic an unsettling space at the same time. Finally, the study argues that this is the reason her music has become an anthem for those navigating the complex and isolated realities of youth in today’s world. And when listening to any kind of song that shares the same psychological features, I’d always wonder if this art was simply reflective, or is was offered as a way to cope, if the artist found a way to embrace chaos through music. Anyway I’m surprisingly not a huge fan of the artist, but I’ve always had a lot of respect for her artistic genius (esp. considering how young she was at the beginning), for her being able to crush my mind with concise and minimalist phrases, and the way she knows how to perfectly sing any word to reach straight into one’s vulnerability

Okay HMM this one shouldn't be too long of a ramble but we will see! (It ended up a little longer than I intended, my bad. No ficlet here, just rambles! If you want a ficlet, send me another ask with a prompt and I'll write one out :D)

Some of my favorite headcannons? Well I can't remember exactly what I've gotten from other people and what I have made myself, but I think I've said before I do REALLY enjoy Ingo (if not both Ingo AND Emmet) being HoH or even partially Deaf! As a Deaf person myself, and the fact that I view both the twins as HEAVILY autistic, I'd say they probably both have Auditory Processing Disorder already since it is heavily co-morbid with autism, but I also think I saw somewhere that somebody thought Ingo may be properly Deaf with actual hearing loss because of how much he yells! I relate because I also yell and talk very loud because it's difficult to hear myself. I'd like to think Ingo likely has damage to his hearing, perhaps from a train incident or maybe something to do with feedback from the PA system. I mean we all know the twins are very careful and cautious but they likely grew to be that way from multiple incidents over the years LOL

That was a big ramble for just one headcannon but I genuinely cannot think of any others that I've seen that I knowingly picked up from someone else? Though I'd LOVE for you guys to send me in asks about headcannons you enjoy and I'll tell you my thoughts on them !!

Favorite Twin though? MAN that's tough. That poll was going around recently and I am pretty sure Ingo won the votes, but I can't remember. I don't believe I have a favorite just because I like them both for a few different reasons, but if I HAD to pick? Emmet probably. I just think the specific type of trauma he went through with his twin brother and closest friend up and disappearing for god knows how long is a very, interesting type of thing to explore, as well as I relate to Emmet a touch more in the way he's shown in fannon as more blunt and sometimes even aggressive, I like putting my own headcannons onto him of him either having IED (an anger issue disorder I have) or just having SEVERE emotional regulation issues to the point where he likely gets set off way faster than Ingo. And if you take that idea and run with it, it also would just add to the stress of him trying to navigate life without Ingo to keep him in check. I'd like to think he grows a lot emotionally from it, but also it deeply hurts him, though after Ingo (possibly) returns, they are both slightly less codependent and VERY codependent if you look at it from different angles.

Like yeah, Emmet would have learned coping mechanisms to use on his own without his brothers assistance, and so he can be on his own and deal with over-stimulation and frustration without going off on somebody now, which Ingo is very proud of as that was a life long struggle of Emmets, but the way he was forced to learn in such a short period of time makes him inclined to not want to be alone if he can help it. On top of I know he would be verrrry clingy to Ingo when he returns, and Ingo would likely be the same, if not for missing Emmet but just clinging onto the little bit of his past he finally found, up until he properly gets his memories back if that is a factor in the equation.

So yeah, Emmet if I had to choose is my favorite but I really enjoy them both. They are a set, do not separate!!!

How did I discover them? That's actually a REALLY funny story, to me at least. I had already been aware of them in pokemon B/W, but I wasn't insane about the fellas, I just enjoyed gear station and Emmet made me want to die with the 50/100 battles won in a row AUGH. But when Legends Arceus came out, I started seeing a lot of art of some silly fellas I didn't recognize across my dash. The art was amazing most of the time if it was full pieces, but also the shitpposting really got my attention for how silly the twins just, look. Muppet men. So I went down the rabbit hole one day at like, 3 am, and much to my fiance's dismay, he woke up to me SPAMMING him with photos and art of the twins and infodumping about the lore and how "THERES A NEW GAME OUT I NEED TO PLAY IT RAAGH" (he has the game now and I've played it a little but I keep forgetting I actually don't really enjoy playing the pokemon games much, I just enjoy the lore) and then it spilled over into my work life, where I kept ranting about AUs as they were coming out (that future Emmet AU where he possesses his past self in an attempt to save Ingo? AUGH that one hurts so good, I need to write a fic about it) and now all of my friends and ex coworkers know me as the rando obsessed with pokemon men. Good times

And for fic recs, actually as unwell as I am about the twins I have not looked on ao3 or anything for fics??? Maybe it's because I'm a little scared of coming across something gross, I also get majorly squicked out about shipping the twins with other people just because it doesn't feel right in my brain, though theres a handful of exceptions (I really enjoy one of the AUs that Emmet and Elesa got together after Ingo disappeared and had a kid, only for Ingo to return very confused, that ones funny, though I do also heavily characterize that Emmet much differently than I do 'classic' Emmet)
