sometimes i think about what could have made me like sc*tt. like. s1&s2 sc*tt definitely had his faults- esp. wrt his treatment of derek- but i think he definitely could have developed as a person from there and had a rly interesting character arc? like real personal growth and shit. it gets harder after master plan. is there a way that episode could have gone down the way it did and still made him a likable character after that? is there any apology he could give that would suffice?
cont. - like im not sure of the answer, but id love to see someone manage it. i don’t know if ive ever come across a fic that manages to redeem him from that moment while still acknowledging it. most fics either dont forgive him for it or they just sort of ignore it. for me tho, i think the real breaking point for sc*tt is the true alpha storyline. after that i don’t think there was anything they could have done for him to make him an interesting or likeable character. that storyline ruined it.
I think one of the biggest places where people take issue with Scott –– and this doesn’t mean they hate him or he’s a horrible human being (although some people feel that way too, and are entitled to it), but where many people see Scott falling short as a character is in that the show seems to have decided that “main character” or “hero” should mean perfect, and that’s just… that’s not good for character development, for plot building, or honestly, for a character’s likability.
Characters need to grow to be engaging. And people grow by making mistakes, learning from them, and moving forward. Scott’s mistakes, his flaws as a human being (and yes, he has flaws, everyone does, that’s not character assassination, that’s just fact) are really never addressed. He isn’t made to apologize for the things he does wrong (and why should he, honestly, since no one around him recognizes his problematic behaviors and calls him out on them) or face any apparent payment for them. This compared to the rest of the characters in the series, who are called out on their mistakes –– either by other characters or by consequences in canon. I always use Derek as a comparison, because there are a lot of straightforward parallels, such as the key moments with Isaac. Derek throws a glass at Isaac to get him to leave the loft. We know that’s an absolutely shitty thing to do, it reads immediately on both Isaac and Derek’s faces, and as consequence Derek loses Isaac as a pack member. That’s some hardcore, immediate reaction showing people in the scene and in the audience that This Was Not An Ok Thing To Do. The fact that Derek knew it wasn’t ok as he was doing it, and that he did it on purpose to get Isaac to leave for his own safety, does not make the behavior alright, and Derek acknowledges and pays for that behavior in the permanent loss of Isaac as a housemate and pack member.
When Scott, a short time later, throws Isaac into a wall in a moment of jealousy, it should, on the surface, seem to strike a fairly close parallel. We have Isaac’s Alpha, someone in a position of power over him, physically lashing out at him in some way. But in this instance, neither Scott nor Isaac react much to it, Isaac continues to go on living in Scott’s house and remaining a member of his pack, and there is just… no real follow up to that moment. And while I understand how that can lead some viewers to dismiss the moments as not being parallel (Isaac wasn’t upset there, so clearly Scott’s behavior is acceptable), what I and many viewers are instead left with is the message that Derek lashing out is unexpected and unacceptable, Scott lashing out is expected and acceptable, and that makes him… more heroic?
In season five I believe there finally was a moment between Stiles and Scott where Scott seemed to be being called out on his behavior, but even that came off as very “I’m flawed and you can’t understand that because you’re perfect,” which is… it’s how Scott sees himself, and it’s how the writers seem to see him, but A) that fails to acknowledge the ways in which he is flawed –– meaning that he can’t learn from and improve upon those flaws –– and B) makes for an incredibly un-engaging character. How can we identify with perfection? How can we root for perfection? And how can we fully get on board with someone we are told is perfect, when we can look at them and point out a dozen instances where they weren’t?
This is my major issue with Scott’s character. That we are told he is perfect when we see he isn’t, that he has a double standard of being excused from all of his bad behaviors when the characters around him aren’t, and I do think this connects very much to the True Alpha problem (I got another ask about my thoughts on that so I’ll answer that in more detail separately), because it’s just another level of saying “Scott is a better man, werewolf, and person in general than everyone else.”
Ok, now after all of that, how do I think Scott could have been improved and made more likable for many critical viewers? To be honest, for me it would have been really simple. Include moments where he apologizes for things. That’s… really, honestly, all I would have needed. Because like I said, I’m not looking for perfect characters. Scott acknowledging that he screwed up now and again would make me ecstatic because it would mean that he’s learning and growing and is trying to become better, and that makes for an amazing character arc in any show. If Scott had done the exact same thing in “Master Plan,” except when Derek asked why Scott didn’t tell him Scott had said “I’m sorry… I was afraid if I told anyone then Gerard would find out my plan. And I couldn’t risk that, my mom was in danger” then bam. I would have had a complete turnaround on my attitude toward him in that moment. He would have been humanized, we would have seen that he was in a tough situation, and he would have become more sympathetic by sympathizing with the shitty thing he’d done to Derek. Honestly, that simple.
#Anonymous#ask hks#i accidentally hit post before finishing my last sentence :P#hks opinions#I'm wary to put this in the scott tag so I just won't#i'll tag it#sc*tt mccall#so i can find it again#(even though tbh i don't think this was that harsh#i wish we as a fandom could analyze scott like we do every other character#without having stans telling us to go kill ourselves but there we are#anyway. on to the next)

head to toe | lee taeyong.
genre: ten pounds of fluff. slightly suggestive? character/s: taeyong x reader. overview: you love each other from head to toe. literally. word count: 2971.
13. "Sorry I'm late." 28. "Drive safely." 99. "Be careful."
A IS FOR:
ankle
“C’mere.”
Taeyong’s voice pulls you out of your concentration. You look up from your laptop screen and scan the entire room until your eyes finally land on his figure. Calm and quiet, he’s sitting in front of his easel where a blank canvas is placed. Sunday nights mean the both of you catching up with the work you’ve put off over the weekend – you with your Film App paper, and him with his commissioned portrait.
You stand up, dragging your chair with you to where he was. He hooks an arm around your ankles and lift them up to his lap. Being able to touch you and feel you near brings him a deep sense of comfort. And only then is he able to start his own work.
B IS FOR:
belly
You sit on the sofa and let out a loud sigh of relief. Nothing beats having a boyfriend who can cook – and cook deliciously, mind you. Taeyong wears a smug look on his face as he watches you. "Full?"
Still in the last few moments of food coma, you could only nod. And then, when his gaze is back on the TV, you pull your shirt up just enough to uncover your belly and take Taeyong's hand. He immediately glances at you as soon as his palm rests on the soft skin of your stomach.
"You feel this?" you ask. "It's our food baby."
He snorts. "Wow, what's its name?"
"Chicken-stir-fry Lee."
"I swear to God you're the weirdest thing ever," he says. But he squeezes your waist and pulls you into his side, anyway.
back
Irritated Doyoung is in the middle of his speech when a hand lands on the small of your back. "What did I miss?" Taeyong asks, stealing the glass of champagne from your hands and taking a sip himself.
"Not much." You see Doyoung catching sight of Taeyong, the supposedly man of the hour, amidst the crowd and grimacing. "Just your opening speech, is all."
The man beside you snickers. "He handled it well, anyhow."
"But I was anticipating seeing you talk about your work."
He looks at you from the corner of his eye and frowns. "I’m sorry I'm late."
You want to snap back at him but you don't have a chance to, because Doyoung is already marching over to where you and Taeyong were standing. He then thrusts the wireless microphone onto your boyfriend’s chest and drag him to the spotlight, much to your delight and Taeyong’s dismay.
C IS FOR:
chest
There is a certain kind of security to be felt when you’re caged in between Taeyong’s arms and your legs are all tangled up. You feel like everything can go wrong – you can fail your exam, get sick with the flu for days, lose all your hair, and even misplace your lucky pen – but still feel happy and content. Because nothing can make you unhappy. Not here. Not when you’re safely tucked under his chin and pressed oh so warmly against his chest.
E IS FOR:
eyebrow
“What happened to his eyebrows?” Taeyong’s sister asks you as you bond over cups of coffee. She chances upon her brother’s latest profile picture and tsks in disapproval at the sight of him with one of his eyebrows partly shaved.
You shrug. “I’m the one supposed to know him the best, but even I don’t know what goes through his head sometimes.”
“There, there,” she cooes. “He’s a lot to handle, isn’t he?”
“I’m just at that point where I’m glad his fingers and toes are still complete.”
You and his sister sigh in unison.
H IS FOR:
hand
Taeyong holds your hand tightly after he sits you down on the couch. His hands are hot and sweaty against yours.
"What's wrong?"
He sighs, avoiding your gaze. "I've been hiding something from you."
"What is it?" Immediately, you are on full alert. Whatever he's going to say, you already know it's not good. You begin to anticipate something bad, like he's killed someone and now he needs help hiding the body; something worse, like he's going to use you for his upcoming exhibit; the worst, like he's going to break up with you.
"I have chicks," he says, eyes quickly searching yours for a response. He doesn't know what he sees there. Disappointment? Betrayal? Fury?
"You mean... you've been cheating?"
"What?" Your boyfriend shifts in his seat more comfortably. "No! I meant chicks, as in baby chickens. I just didn't want to tell you because you said you didn't want pets, and they're not pets! I'm just keeping them for inspiration for my new exhibit." He picks at your fingernails as he spoke, fidgeting with your hands out of nervousness.
You exhale the breath you don't realize you've been holding. If you didn't love this guy, you probably would have punched him. He sometimes makes you nervous and panicky for no reason. "Okay. Okay, that's fine."
He clutches your hands to his chest as he too sighs in relief. "Okay, good."
"How did you bring them here without me noticing?"
"Oh, that was easy. I bought them as eggs and then incubated them under our bed. I kept a daily log of them in my phone and not in a notebook so you wouldn't be able to see. Everyday, when you leave, I check up on them and cuddle them one by one like a mother hen. And then, after weeks and weeks of just pure love and warmth, they started hatching. So now, I've eight baby chicks."
"Did you just say you incubated them under our bed?"
"Uh-huh."
"For weeks and weeks?"
"Yep."
"And now that they've hatched, where do you keep them, exactly?"
"Oh! The pet store where I bought them from said to put them somewhere with soil and proper ventilation, so I put them on your mini garden."
"Lee Taeyong!"
hair
"The hell is this?"
You grab a handful of your boyfriend's hair and frown. Taeyong being an artist has its fair share of crazies. But having been with him for years has made you immune to them, so seeing him now with electric blue hair isn't as surprising as his old "experiments". But seeing Yuta and Johnny with red and green hair respectively is nothing short of shocking.
"What, you like it?" Yuta asks, his bangs covering his eyes as he blowdries his hair.
"It's like a powerpuff convention I wasn't invited in."
"See, I told you she'd hate it." Johnny elbows Taeyong against the rib.
"Shut up, Buttercup."
J IS FOR:
jaw
“Yes, give it to me, baby!”
Your arms and legs are starting to hurt from the awkward positions you put yourself into, but the smile it brings to your boyfriend’s face makes it all worth it.
“Okay, I think that’s enough pictures, [Y/N],” Taeyong says as he walks towards you. He’s beginning to think that asking you to take his picture for his Facebook profile is a bad idea. You do have a slight tendency to go overboard. Because even as he’s fast approaching you, you still manage to capture him in a candid shot or two. He quickly removes the strap from your wrist and manages, with great difficulty, to retrieve the camera from your grip.
“Not yet, just a few more!” You let out a whine in protest, almost shoving the camera lens in his face to give him a lot of pictures to choose from. “Whoa, look at that jawline,” you exclaim to distract him, knowing full well that he takes so much pride in what he considers to be his best asset. “What a killer.”
Later on, he’s posting one as his new profile photo. Before he could even finish uploading it, Taeyong tosses you your own phone so you could be the first person to like it.
L IS FOR:
lips
You know you’re in for a wild night when your boyfriend wears his clip-on lip ring, with Taeyong knowing full well how the small piece of accessory makes you feel all sorts of things.
N IS FOR:
neck
"I don't see how–"
Taeyong shushes you before you could finish your sentence. "You won't be able to see it if you keep talking. Be quiet and just stare at it."
You do as you're told, but after a minute or so, you complain once again. "I still can't–"
"Any second now."
You purse your lips and swallow the complaints that bubble up your throat. Instead, you take a deep breath and really concentrate on the canvas that was in front of you. Besides the weird splash of colors that seemed unorganized and accidental, you focus on the black lines that curve fluidly across the plane. And just like that, it hits you.
"It's a bunny!" you exclaim, straightening your posture at the same time. Taeyong has insisted you look at the picture with your head tilted at exactly 45 degrees. Now your neck just hurts and you let out an involuntary yelp.
"Good job, baby," he praises, dropping a quick kiss on your forehead. He puts the canvas away and places a new one in front of you. "Now, this one you have to look at from the back like you're walking away and someone from behind you suddenly calls your name..."
"Taeyong!"
P IS FOR:
palm
You rest your chin over your palm as you watch Taeyong dote on Jisung, his latest intern.
“Why are you being so mean to him? It’s his first day,” you complain as soon as he leaves the intern to do his assigned task and goes to you. “On my first day here, I didn’t even do much.”
“Yeah, well, I was faking being strict on you because I liked you. But now, I have to be really strict,” he says in defense.
“Because you might end up liking the new interns too?”
He shakes his head and steals a peck from your lips. “Nope. I’m actually a very strict and uptight person. I’m just nice to you because I’m whipped.”
You laugh at his strange attempts at flirting. And you don’t understand if you find it funny because his advances come off as awkward or because no matter how strange it seems, his flirting still manages to make your heart flutter. “You drive me nuts, seriously.”
“I may drive you nuts, but at least I drive safely.” And then Taeyong winks with both of his eyes.
S IS FOR:
shoulder
Scrolling through Instagram on his phone, Taeyong drops his head on your lap. “Hey, you think my doodles are pretty, right?”
“Yeah, why?”
“How come you never thought of having it tattooed on you?”
You frown. “Because it’s permanent?”
The word makes Taeyong sit up. “And we’re not?”
“Nope.”
Now it’s his turn to frown. He mulls over something for a while before speaking again. “Then let’s be permanent.”
“Like married?”
“Yeah,” he says, a small smile gracing his lips at the thought. “Like married.”
You shrug, feigning nonchalance, when inwardly you were screaming. “Fine.”
“Fine,” Taeyong repeats. “I want my fleur de lis drawing inked on your shoulder.” As he spoke, he grabs ahold of the collar of your shirt and drags it sideways to expose more skin. And then he marks the spot where he wants you tattooed by leaving open-mouthed kisses on your skin.
T IS FOR:
tooth
Besides his genuine macabre style of painting, Taeyong is also known for his rather strange exhibitions.
“Are those—”
“Yes,” he cuts you off, urging you to move on to the rest of the artworks on the first day of your internship. But you choose to stand still and stare at the teeth scattered behind the glass display.
“Are they real?”
“Yes. Have you read the description?”
Your eyes dart away from the teeth and briefly shift to the justified paragraph printed on clean white paper just at the bottom of the display, but you don’t bother reading.
“Are they yours?”
Taeyong sighs. “Of course not. You know where I got them?”
“Where?”
“I pulled them out from the mouth of interns who ask too many questions.”
You don’t speak a word for the rest of your mini tour.
toes
“You call yourself an artist with this kind of work?”
You groan, taking the brush from your boyfriend’s grip. Sitting up, you fold your right knee up to your chest to inspect your foot. And, just as you expected, Taeyong has smudged the nail polish all over your toes.
“Well, I’m sorry the wand is too small!”
“Ugh.” You snatch the bottle from the table and work on your nails yourself. “I’m painting your toes in the same way you did mine and then we’ll see how you like it.”
tongue
Doyoung makes his usual round of the exhibit just before closing time. As usual on a Friday night, there are still several students taking notes, connoisseurs basking in the different sights, and just random visitors taking pictures. Nothing is out of place, he thinks, but he could only sigh when he catches sight of you and Taeyong by the corner. If he had a dollar for every time he catches the two of you with your tongues down each other’s throats, he would have been able to purchase an original Van Gogh by now.
thigh
Love means compromise. So on days you really need a dose of your boyfriend’s cuddles, he lets you sit on his thigh and hugs you with his left arm while working on a sketch with his other.
W IS FOR:
waist
“You nervous?”
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be with you the whole time, I promise,” Taeyong reassures with a smile. His hands find purchase in your waist before his fingers find each other and interlock behind you, keeping them in place. “Now, take a deep breath for me.”
You do as you’re told and exhale after a few seconds. His words don’t completely quell the nervousness within you, but they manage to calm you down a little. You’re now beginning to regret agreeing to holding your first exhibition in your boyfriend’s own place. But you realize it’s too late to back out now, because Taeyong is already ushering you towards the crowd. You see your family and friends, who all congratulate you for a job well done. You catch sight of your professors, whom you avoid on purpose for fear of a long, intellectual discussion about art theory. You also get to meet fellow artists, most of whom were invited by Taeyong himself.
Somewhere along the way, you lose your boyfriend in the crowd, but you let him be, not wanting to disappoint your guests by sticking to Taeyong’s side the entire time. However, when the crowd thins and your social skills get drained, you look for him first. And it isn’t that hard to look for a red-haired boy in a sea of brunettes.
As soon as you appear in front of him, he says, “I’m proud of you,” as if he has been practicing all night to say it and now that he has the chance to blurt it out, he does. You squeeze his hand and smile. After all, despite the countless criticisms and comments you’ve heard all night, Taeyong’s approval is the only thing that mattered.
wrist
Being an intern for Taeyong – the Lee Taeyong – is taking up all your patience, to say the least. Sure, you have been offered an internship by other artists, but Taeyong's studio was the nearest to where you live. Traveling back and forth daily for an ordinary university student like you is taxing and costly, so you decided to choose him over others. You're starting to rethink that decision now.
"Be careful!" he shouts at you for the hundredth time today. "That's an authentic Rothko you're holding, not some poster from a souvenir shop.”
You roll your eyes. Usually, it’s Doyoung, his curator and closest friend, who gives you tasks and assigns you work to do, but he has flown out of the country since the weekend, leaving you under the wing of the devil himself. Taeyong’s first job assignment for you is to clean up his studio. You think of it lightly at first, but later on realize he hasn’t cleaned the place ever since he has turned it into his workplace. Media of various kinds cling to his floor and easel like glue (you found some kind of blood-like substance that you didn’t bother asking about), and it has taken you almost three whole days to scrub them off completely.
Now he’s making you move all the paintings from his exhibition area to the storage room for some reason he isn’t telling you. As carefully as you can, you attempt to lift the painting higher as per your boss’ instruction. But with the day’s worth of carrying and transferring finally catching up to you, you stumble back, the painting in your hands becoming dangerously close to being damaged. So Taeyong comes to your rescue, catching your wrist just in time.
But this isn’t like what you see in romance movies or John Green novels where boy catches girl and they stare into each other’s eyes until they fall in love. Because Taeyong takes No. 15 from your grip and brings it to storage himself. The painting is saved, but you never hear the last of it, because he scolds and nags your ears off and leaves you standing in the middle of his studio feeling like the worst intern ever. You cry about it to Doyoung over the phone, but he still says he ships the two of you together.
“Oh, please.” You scoff. “I will never fall in love with someone like him.”
But boy are you wrong.

A, D, G, J, M, P, S, V, Y
A. If you could rec a piece of music to accompany one of your fics, what would you pick? Why?
Lana Del Rey’s “Once Upon a Dream” cover is hands down the music that’s meant to accompany visions are seldom all they seem. (And yes, I have been writing that this year.)
D. Any drawings or pictures that had a big influence on your writing?
IDK who made it anymore (I should know - I’m awful), but someone did a brilliant edit of River with an artist’s portrait, where she’s in this gorgeous black ballgown and there’s a galaxy coming out of the dress, and that image of River in that black dress has inspired all sorts of fic.

G. Where do you think you grew the most this year?
Strictly grammatically, I’m getting better about removing excess commas, and I’m always learning new Brit-pick differences in colloquial terms. I also think I’ve grown because I’ve finished some massive WIPs this year, which turned out to be really emotionally difficult, having invested so much time in them. It was hard to know where to let go. Hopefully I did them justice. Finally, this is the first year in a while where I’ve poked my foot into writing other fandoms, even at a glance, which I consider growth. I haven’t written as much as I’d like this year, so I hope to have a better overall answer to this question next year.
J. What are the best jokes you told this year? Any jokes you thought were funny that people didn’t catch? Vice-versa?
Hmm, I’m not a great joke teller, so I’m always just happy if I’m ever accidentally funny? There are actually quite a few little humorous spots in Services Rendered, which I’m not sure are always clear because it’s generally a fairly serious fic?
Probably the best joke I posted this year (though I suspect I wrote it last year) was
”You’re incorrigible.““I know. It’s the eyebrows”
-from you kiss my lips, and then it’s done.
M. Meta! Have any meta about a story you’re dying to throw out there?
I always have approx. 14 Doctor Who WIPs going at any given time. That way the theory is that I’ll always be inspired by something. It always seems to be about the same number for DW though, which I find amusing. I also have WIPs for other fandoms going (but not as many).
As for fic meta: for to get a dream of life again, the idea was that when Twelve steps out into the auditorium, that would be the class that Bill ends up sitting in on. I’m not sure that was ever clear enough in the fic because the fic needed to end before we saw Bill, but that was definitely want I meant that fic to be leading up to. It got Moffated and would be AU, but I still somehow feel like I could make that work - it’s entirely possible River held multiple lectureships.
(Going back to J - I think I made quite a few attempts at jokes in to get a dream of life again, and I’m not really sure that most of them hit - maybe it was just too angsty over all?)
P. What are your pet peeves in other people’s work?
I can’t get behind first or second person. I get weirdly judgemental when I see “ass” used by English characters? Even though I’m not English? I’m also pretty picky about what sexual organs are referred to (spoilers: the term “sexual organ” basically never belongs in fic, IMHO). Otherwise, I try to be pretty open? We’re all doing this for fun and learning, and I know my grammar isn’t always (ever?) perfect.
S. What’s the sexiest thing you wrote this year?
This year, it was definitely the last chapter of Betwixt mine eye and heart.
V. Which story was the most viscerally pleasing to write? Tell us your narrative kinks.
This year, it was definitely to get a dream of life again.
My narrative kinks? I’m incredibly visual, so it’s the little details that I really enjoy. I also enjoy weaving in poetic bits of sentences, or when there’s a way to be ambiguous in structure with time or flashbacks/forwards or things like that, though I don’t get to use them often. I also enjoy subverting grammar occasionally for effect (I hope).
Y. Why did you write? For fun, for a friend, for acclaim?
I write as a relaxation technique, actually?! So, for fun, mostly. Acclaim would always be nice, and friends occasionally blackmail me, but mostly for fun. I find I’m a much happier person when I’m writing (fic) daily. Writing for work has pretty much the opposite effect, sadly.
#writing meme#amillionmillionvoices#fic#writing#thanks for the asks darling#I had fun trying to answer them#even if it was a bit difficult keeping some to this year#I kinda went by my AO3 post dates and what I knew I'd written before/later#my fic#otp: really important flirting#otp: sherlocked

Oh, don’t mind me. Just bragging about Winx pens, that’s all...
Warning: This post is very long (long af) because I’m a huge talker. So if you want to read it, prepare for next few hours of reading (okay not hours but still a lot of time). :D Also prepare for sh*tty photo session. Actually not that crappy anymore. I didn’t publish it on Friday when I got the pens and took the photos, so I was able to finally find my lost digital camera and recreate most of the photos (unfortunately not all because, you know, I opened the package). Even added some more than I planned. :P
Back to the topic. Since, I didn’t have anything to post here recently I thought that I might talk a little about Winx Mythix Pens I ordered. Or at least that’s what I thought last week when I didn’t have any new posts but then I wrote some of them, so I know the first sentence doesn’t make much sense now. But that’s okay, I’m still going to share this fact because I got so excited about it and waited impatiently for them to arrive (and waited more to finally finish the post). When I try to remember, I actually haven’t buy any Winx merchandise in years (!) and any other merch in a very long time (at least I can’t remember buying anything)... Unless you count some ebooks, but still, some time passed since then. So, Darla got excited, yaaaay!
Last week I found a nice discount for last year’s two issues of Mythix Magic Pen in Polish online bookstore (because here in Poland, since, I think, 2012 we get Winx toys and dvds with 8-page ‘special edition’ magazines which have nothing interesting inside. I don’t know if in any other country does the same thing, so if you know anything, please, tell me because I’m kinda curious about it). The price was tempting, so I thought: Why not?
From what I’ve already seen, I thought that of all strange Winx gadgets Rainbow creates for kids, the Mythix Pens seemed actually pretty (prettier than Enchantix/Bloomix pens) and I really was considering starting to collect them (or to just buy my favourite Winx if I can) if they arrive to my country... And they did but then I completely forgot about them. Took me a year to finally remember, heh... yay me. So when I found a nice offer for last year’s edition I accepted it.
Of course to not get disappointed by any chance, I tried to prepare myself for any possible case. You know, that the pack would get destroyed, lost, the pens wouldn’t work etc. Although I feel that I didn’t prepare myself hard enough, because when I finally got the envelope I was like: I’m afraid to open it... Or maybe it was because I waited almost a week for them to arrive and... I don’t know. I guess I’m just a freak.
But finallly when I opened this big baby I noticed a foil of heaven’s relaxing and pleasurable satisfaction... So I already knew I’m going to spend the next fifteen minutes (or half an hour) on playing with this thingie. And that’s what I did (it was stronger than me!).
But after popping all the bubbles and tearing the envelope to tiny pieces (because I’m a freak) I finally focused my attentions on something that I really waited for.
I bought just two pens because I really wasn’t sure in what condition I’m going to get them. Besides I didn’t want three copies of the same magazine (at least not now). I have no idea if they were selling them without a magazine in Poland because I never found these pens without them. And I didn’t found any info about it online so I suppose they were only available with a magazine (unless anybody from Poland have seen them available alone, then please, correct me). The package had a barcode and other stuff like in Italian edition, so I don’t understand why the distributor decided to make them only available in our country with this 8-page-waste-of-trees, and write to collect them all.
I can imagine these 6-year-old girls who want all Mythix pens and in the newsagent they ask their parent but they say: Parent: But you already have this one. Kid: No! This one has a different fairy... Parent: Don’t be ridiculous. We’re not going to waste our money on stuff you already own. Kid: :C
Good thing I’m an adult now and if I decide to buy more, I don’t have to ask my dad. The only advantage of adulthood I’m probably ever going to get.
Okay, back to my pens. First of all I wanted to own my favourites. With the first issue you could get Bloom, Stella or Musa, while in the issue 2 the rest of Winx. I picked Musa immediately of course (you know how much I love this baby) and this bookstore didn’t have Layla’s pen in stock anymore, so I chose Tecna. I was thinking about Flora’s pen for a while but liked Tecna’s pen better.
I have some issues with Flora’s Mythix design (I like it only on her doll) besides, Tecna’s pen is painted in gorgeous shades of purple! How can I refuse something with such beautiful colors?!
At first I thought that I would check these ‘magazines first before I open the pens and start playing with them. But I ended up opening pens first. The packages were so pretty I didn’t want to throw them out, even thought they were identical. I guess it’s because I’m a freak. Don’t worry, I only kept the pen’s packages, the envelope and that plastic wrap where the magazine was inside were already in my trash bin before I started opening my new toys...
My little babies were home... at last. You can say I have new PenPals. Get it? You know, pen and... okay nevermind.
Each Mythix pen comes with a stand, pair of wings and their own wand which you can play with and even switch between girls. They also have a tiny leaflet with a collection checklist and a note which you can cut out, write something (like greeting or a lovenote or whatever you want) and give to your friend or your favourite Winx... or even an imaginary friend... or just yourself. In the Italian edition there was also some info about a contest, a raffle or something and a coupon with a fairy’s name which was probably for that contest thing. For some reason in Polish edition they left the coupon but replaced the missing spot with toy’s information and an extra Winx note. So you can give them to more than one friend. But of course I’m not going to use them. Because I don’t have any friends. I want these leaflets to be in perfect condition just like the package. Breaking news: I’m a freak!
They used one of Musa’s worse pictures unfortunately... But I’m still going to keep it as my treasure. I liked Tecna’s picture.
And then came a part that brought me most worries. The wings. At first I thought that if you can exchange the wands between the girls when maybe you can do the same thing with the wings. But after placing them there I realized that changing the wings would be pointless (it’s not a Witty Toys or Jakks Pacific doll, Darla! It’s a pen!). I actually thought putting them on a figurine would be easier. But it turned out kind of harder. I also remembered a video of HarmonixCollecter where he mentioned that the wings of his Bloom’s pen kept falling off. In my case it was hard to put the wings on and at the same time I was afraid, if I don’t be gentle enough I would break them. I think I did the best I could. When Musa’s wings were placed on her I realized that in the middle between each wing was a white line, like a trace that appears on a plastic when you fold it or something like that. I got pretty scared that I pushed it too hard, I didn’t noticed it before, and I kept asking myself why I didn’t take a closer look when I was taking the wings out of the package. They probably flexed a little when I was pushing them into the pen’s hole (boy, that doesn’t sound good). The line a little bothered me but I think I’m over it now. They were in their place, they weren’t moving, so they were okay. I shouldn’t be that worried on Musa... because Tecna’s wings turned out definitely more stressful.
First of all, in some places they were thinner than Musa’s. Compared to Tecna, Musa’s wings seemed thick enough to be okay. Which means the purple wings were more fragile. After I put Tecna’s wings, I realized not only that they were harder to push (yes, I placed them in the right side), they seemed to be loose on Tecna’s back so I was afraid that they might fall off. I tried one more time, pulled the wings, and I noticed that the wings even though were moving like they’re going to fall off, they actually were pushed inside well so pulling wasn’t easy as I thought. And because I already started pulling I kept doing it, so I can place it one more time to make sure it stays on without risking them to fall just because I pulled it a little. This time pushed a little harder, but the ‘movement’ didn’t change, still seemed loose but now I knew it won’t come off that easy. I said “Okay, screw that!” and started enjoying again, then started taking some photos (on my stupid phone)... and then I noticed this.
A small crack. Also you probably can see a white line on Musa’s wings (no, this white thing is not a light’s reflection, it’s that trace I was talking about). I was like: No! I started ruining it after I took it off the package! Whyyy!
And you know, I was freaking out (because I’m a freak). Although the crack didn’t seem that bad. I thought that maybe if I won’t touch it won’t break more. But at the same time I wondered how this actually happened. Did I hit that part? Did I press too hard that some laws of physics, force and other school stuff I don’t remember anymore made this little crack? Or maybe it was like this before (I swear, when I get other Mythix pens, I’m going to spend at least 15 minutes on staring at them and looking for any cracks so I can be sure if I’m the one to blame)? Dunno. I just knew that I’ve got to fix it someday.
Anyway I started to forget about the crack (but remember that the wings are injured at the same time) and tried to check if these pens actually work as pens. Because my hands are bigger than hands of 6-year-old kids my finger touched the end of Tecna’s wing and accidentally broke this ipsy tipsy part. As a freak, I was heartbroken.
Now I definitely have to fix it. Well at least I didn’t break it more, so I guess I was more lucky. I’m just afraid that Tecna might not like the new look of her wings.
Geez, these wings really look thin. They could make each pair of wings as thick as the stand (THIS is what I call a thick piece of plastic). I’m a little worried about a tickness of other girls wings. In pictures Stella’s seem quite thin too... Okay, I’m getting paranoid.
This is what happens to a freak when it’s precious gets even a tiny scratch. Completely looses it’s mind.
Okay, enough of freaking out. Let’s move to the part of these pens that I actually would be okay with if they didn’t work. I was a little expecting this would be the s*it part of this but I personally didn’t care because these pens are so adorable I would collect them anyway even if they didn’t write... but look!
Shiny sparkles not included. And don’t worry I didn’t write this whole page with these pens (It’s my notebook from old school). I used them to write ‘Best fairy friends’ and their signatures that are behind Tecna’s pen but they’re hardly visible in this photo. They’re in the corner. Also their stands have ‘Winx Club’ logo on them! How cool is that!
They actually work as pens pretty well. I mean you can write with them. Although writing with Musa was a little uncomfortable because of her wide skirt. Like I said my hands are a little bigger that a kid’s hand so I might have some problems but for a kid should be okay... I guess. Writing with Tecna was more comfortable thanks to her outfit, even though I was touching the end of her wings. But as I said, they’re pretty, kinda fragile in some parts, and you can write with them, so I know that if I need to write something down quickly I can just reach one of them from my locker... wait, what that that catchy phrase? You can write with them and play with them! Oh, that means the next part is...
PLAYTIME!
Okay... Maybe I just skip the play part. Unless Tecna hurts me. But don’t worry, if you read this post you can be sure that she haven’t harmed me... yet. She didn’t do anything to me in last days so I think we are getting along pretty well. And when I glue a broken part of her wing she will probably forget the whole situation.
About playing with these pens... In my opinion it might be a little risking... knowing how kids can play with their toys... But it’s none of my business how people play with their toys so I’m not going to judge... after all I was a destructive little girl too. ;)
If you’re interested in what’s in the magazines then I’ll tell you... nothing interesting. I mean, to me it’s like a magazine was a bonus to the pen, contrary to what they are writing on a cover. It just has eight pages from what only two pages could be found (by a grown-ass-woman like me) as something worth minimal attention because they’re probably come from original magazine, while the rest... nah.
Okay, so the first page of the magazine is the cover, of course. Pages 2-3 are a section about writing, where Winx faries give you some tips about writing e.g. a letter to a friend or a poem, so it seems kinda okay... Although I was confused when the cover of issue 2 said about an Enchanting Diary and the actual article was about writing your own story/fiction. I get that you can use your diary to write some stories that came up from your mind but... What does this have to do with writing fanfictions? Okay, whatever.
Pages 4-5 are some tests/quizes. And I couldn’t finish any of them right because the answers to questions weren’t even close to what I would really choose. So the result was completely unlike me (except the second quiz where I got Tecna as my muse, even tho I’d like to treat Musa as my muse too). Also for some reason they switched Musa and Flora in results between both issues.
Page 6 was for brain teasers, one per issue. In issue #1 was a word task and issue #2 had matching shadows to the characters. Page 7 was for advertisement and the last one was about the Mythix pens, that you can write, play, yada, yada, yada.
There’s something in Mythix Couture style that I kinda like... but at the same time there’s a lot of defects that bug me as heck... like whitewashing Layla (that she looks here like Roxy or Bloom) or making Musa look weird compared to others.
Oh wait! I said that this magazine has nothing interesting... I was wrong. In the section of writing tips was a part about poems, where Flora showed us one of poems Helia wrote for her. I laughed my head off when I read this.
Translation (although in Polish it sounds much funnier because it also rhymes): Like a fragrant flower You full my life with colors, Beloved Flora, Your smile in the morning Is like a cream.
I’m like: What the heck? Do they really think Helia can be THAT bad in writting poems? Oh... wait. On the second thought... This actually might suit him. Rembember the episode of season 2 where Layla found Helia’s poem and reacted... not very positive.
Not the best poetry ever, huh?
Well, what’s important is that Flora enjoys Helia’s poems so we can be okay with that. I kinda wonder what kind of poetry Hans would write for me... I hope I would love it. I’d even let him borrow my Mythix pens for this. Oh, this reminds me...! Why there’s no Hans Mythix pen? Oh right... Winx is not Disney. But still, Disney could make a gorgeous Hans figure and turn it into a pen. I’d totally buy twenty (or more) and use them for signing my Regal Documents and writting Imperial Proclamations and Royal Letters... of LOOOOVE! *Please, Darla. Stop embarasing yourself. This is a Winx post, not a Hans post...*
Before you leave, I present you some more photos. After dealing with my stupid phone, taking these photos with my digital camera was a total pleasure (no more s*it photos! YAAAS!).
Here you probably can’t see the white trace line between wings but that’s okay. Enjoy the glitter! At first when I saw it I was like: Is that a holographic glitter or iridescent? And then: Oh, no, it’s green glitter on pink plastic. Not holo but still pretty tho. It was surprising that they used a different color for more interesting effect. Tecna’s wings are covered in purple glitter so it’s definitely less visible in pictures. And the stands have just silver gitter.
Don’t worry, I didn’t lost the broken part... yet. I’m definitely going to glue it soon.
I actually wouldn’t guess that using these magazines as a background can make these photos look prettier. Just look at this. <3 Tecna’s face actually looks kinda funny because of the eye position but still love heeer!
Okay, so in conclusion, I can’t bear how much I love these two pens. I like how detailed they were sculpted and painted. There can be some missed spots tho, like in the shoes. Yet they still make a great impression (at least to me). I love that their wands are so detailed, they look much better that wands Witty Toys made for dolls. The faces are cute, the colors are adorable, they make cute figurines and they also work pretty well as pens. My biggest problem was definitely putting the pieces together, even putting on wands was a little hard (or maybe I was just putting them too gently because I was afraid to break them?) but at least they don’t fall of the hand that easily as if their handles were slimmer, so I’m happy.
I’m almost 100% sure that I’m going to use them if I need a pen to write down something quick and place them on shelf for display. And who am I kidding? I’m also definitely going to play with them singing the Mythix song, of course! Even though I’m very sceptical towards Mythix itself, I really like the Mythix Magic Pen series. And I’m looking forward to collect some more fairies one day.
See ya!
