It's the dead of summer where I'm at, which means blasting music with my windows down and singing at the top of my lungs!! While I do so, I can't help but feel inspired by the songs on my playlist. So let's make an event about it!!

To keep the pressure off of me, I will be doing drabbles with moodboards based on the character voted on for each song I've chosen - instead of making it a request-like event.

I will be doing one song at a time, and for each song, I will give you a poll with some character options for you to choose from that you would like to see the drabble and moodboard about. All you need to do is go to the poll and vote!! I'll take care of the rest.

The next update is coming up in December 2023. In addition to a new character, this update will introduce the second round of new special moves, this time for 2 characters. There's also a small-scale balance update in store, focused on adjustments to the new mechanics Wild Assault and Deflect Shield. This will include the aforementioned changes to input options for some characters' new moves such as Giovanna's Chave as well as fixes for issues.

In the Q&A section they teased the possibility of a future artbook that collects all the works between Xrd to now. Fingers crossed it happens!!

The other Q&A responses said that they would consider putting in a way to toggle things like Jack-O's mask and Sin's eyepatch (?!) like how you can toggle Johnny's beard or between the two Asukas, though they said they can't promise anything. They also said that they would like to hold a character palette contest OR survey some day and that they're looking into refining the input for Deflect Shield

The upcoming qualifier tournaments for Arc World Tour are: FIGHTERS SPIRIT (November 18 to 19) in Korea; Battle Coliseum (November 24 to 26) in Brazil; Ultimate Fighting Arena (November 24 to 26) in France; Frosty Faustings (January 25 to 28) in the USA.

So far they've only done big character announcements at events either in the USA or Japan so I'm not sure they'll announce who's next at any of these. There might be another big event going on that I don't know about though. Guess we'll find out soon!!

A disclaimer about one of the Round 3 options: So Maggie effed up, lmao. When you have an odd number of choices for a bracket, you're supposed to give the highest ranking seeds a bye-round, which I did for the highest ranking seed! 😭 However, you're also supposed to take out as many as you need to get the first round to the closest power of two, which I didn't realize. Since Abbott has 35 episodes, for instance, the closest power of 2 would be 32, which means that three episodes needed to have a bye-week for the tournament to shake out perfectly. This means for this round, one of the polls unfortunately has a three episode option. However, after that, we'll be back on track for a smooth finish! Sorry for the mess-up!!

You can get a character card sleeve by defeating them at level 3 30 times!

The card bit exchange!!! It lets you swap the bits you get for card dupes for other cards or holofoil upgrades for your cards!

OCTOBER 2023 EDIT Every 5 levels after level 50 you get 20 card bits and every multiple of 100 you get a fresh pack!

You can press + after starting a match to give up. Useful if you picked the wrong deck or map, or forgot to set a timer.

Gameplay stuff

Based on a community poll, Lil Judd and Mr Coco were voted hardest AI and Sheldon the easiest. (thank you Octanoic once again)

You probably want a separate deck for Double Gemini and Box Seats due to the nature of the maps being unique from the rest. The rest can viably share a generalist deck, or you could build one for each map!

OCTOBER 2023 EDIT virtually nobody uses generalist decks in top level competitive tableturf, so once you get more confident with deckbuilding it is recommended to try and build around the shape of each map!!

Generally good deck sizes range from 130 to 160. Either end of that often ends up being too small to win or so big you have to keep passing. For my personal playstyle I like playing decks in the mid 140s. Decks in the 150-160 range are generally considered ultra large and is more of a niche.

OCTOBER 2023 EDIT the meta now favours bigger decks! 150-160 range is not niche but rather the expected norm in comp tableturf! Anything lesser may lead to a significant turf disadvantage. But for casual play or against the bots the previous advice still works!

I *may* also make a card playing basics tutorial at *some point*. But in general it's a good strategy to try and reach and/or block in early turns and focus on special later on when you have established dominance on the map and/or have safe zones to play in.

Finding other players

The pool "tableturf" is reasonably active to find random matches and is quite friendly to newer players!

The Japanese tableturf pool code is "ナワバトラー"! They seem to favour larger decks over there and have different popular/"meta" cards to the western community.

Join the Tableturf Battle Server (TBS) for casual play with higher skilled players, events, deck advice and more! I'm not affiliated with them at all*, they've just helped me a lot. There we use the pool code "tbs"!

Squidbagging, spinning around, jumping up and down in swim form are considered handshakes in the tableturf lobby

Will you still be writing au’s leading up to Christmas

I’d like to but only one person responded to my post when I asked what everyone would want to see. That’s never stopped me before though so I do have plans just probably not a post every day kind of thing.

Currently I’m working on three prompts from my last Blood Brothers au. I’m done with one, working on the second and then I’ll get to the third. I plan to release them all at the same time.

After that I’m going to update my writing master list to include all the au’s I’ve written. I already have a google doc made up with links for everything so I’ll be able to do that update pretty quickly. Once that’s done I plan on putting up a poll to see which of my unfinished au’s (like the Paz lives modern au, or the Blood Brothers au where Spider has three siblings instead of just Hunter) people would like me to continue.

I’m also working on the next chapter of Cabin. It’s pretty far along, probably about 60%. This chapter will actually get me caught up to the ending of my original one shot. After that I’ll write a Sully p.o.v to show what they went through in the aftermath of Spider’s kidnapping. Once that comes out though it’ll probably be a minute before more Cabin comes out. As most of you know it’s going to be a choose your own adventure style ending so all the endings are just getting dropped at once. Cabin will still be in my writing rotation, you just won’t see it until it’s all done.

I’d also like to write a Christmas one shot for Visited on the Son that’ll later be integrated into the whole fic.

And I don’t know if time will allow it but I’d like to do something with Mama’s boy this month too. I’m definitely going to repost the Christmas one shot I wrote last year. I might try to get the next chapter out but I make no promises there. Like I said in my notes at the end of the last chapter I’ve always thought of Mama’s boy in three acts. The last chapter was the end of act 2. So the next chapter is the opening to the final act of the story. And it’s going to be pretty important. No spoilers but if I named every chapter this one would probably be called, the trial of Paz Socorro. I don’t have anything written for it yet but I’m eager to put what’s in my head into writing and share it. But I also don’t want to rush it so it can be the best it can.

Lastly, I’d like to carve out some time to clear out my inbox. I’ve got a few asks that I’ve been thinking about for awhile. And if you’re someone who’s sent me an ask that I haven’t answered yet please don’t feel like I’m ignoring you. I always want to give a detailed answer to questions and prompts that I’m sent, but sometimes I just really need time to think it through, especially if it’s on topics that are outside my knowledge. Then I need to also study up so I can give a good detailed answer.

So yeah that’s my current plan. If anyone has ideas for what they’d like to see let me know. 💙

First off I would like to welcome any newcomers to my reactions, courtesy of my poll about Blessie's name, as well as my post about my unhinged yet, apparently shockingly plausible theory that Blessie was created with DNA from Reneé Minkowski.

Ignore this I’m mad about ads

Bro I hate ads I was trying to read an article I clicked on through this app and the moment I got NEAR an embedded ad the in-app browser slowed down egregiously until it fully froze, and my phone immediately got so fucking hot

I tried to go back or open the link in Firefox but the app was too frozen and had to be closed. Then I had to go try and find the article again (luckily I did) (still annoying) (took me a while because it was an article from 2006)

And like this happens all the time in tumblr mobile. I’ll be scrolling and things are fine up until an ad happens. Two or three posts before the ad shows up everything gets really laggy. Then scrolling past the ad takes forever, phone gets hot, battery level drops. Finish scrolling past the ad and it’s better again until the next one rears its head (probably in another 10 posts)

This even happens when I’m trying to scroll through my OWN blogs. Like I’m trying to find a specific drawing on my art archive which requires a lot of scrolling usually and the scroll becomes so horrendously choppy so fast from the ads I have to look at ON MY OWN BLOG and sometimes it leads to the app crashing. Yeah yeah don’t archive your art on tumblr whatever. I have the art on my computer but I kind of liked having it all on a side blog for the convenience of it. Not so convenient anymore

I regret updating this app (which was a difficult process)(phone wouldn’t update without being hooked up to the computer)(not that difficult actually just annoying) just to be able to see polls because these performance-tanking ads only showed up after I did the update

And honestly this isn’t just a tumblr app issue. The whole internet is just a wasteland if you don’t have an adblocker. The mobile app is one of the few spots where I don’t have an adblocker and it really just highlights how annoying it is. I am not interested in paying to go ad free. I’ve CONSIDERED it because it’s so annoying and actually severely negatively impacting how well this app runs but at the same time I don’t like the idea of needing to pay to get rid of a problem that was not there before. It feels like losing, in a way. Maybe that’s dumb. I don’t care

I miss the way the Internet used to be, in a lot of ways. Even with ad blockers you still end up hearing dozens of near identical ad reads from video sponsorships. And I don’t hate that people take sponsorships. I just hate hearing about Product………..and it always sounds like the same phrasing/script which gets old and repetitive to me. Like seeing the same commercial on tv too many times in a row.

I’m just tired of it man. I don’t want to be sold a product at every turn I take. Im just trying to chill here

i have some thoughts on unfinished works: 1 - if its marked incomplete and you also say in the notes that it wont be finished, thats fine. i might read it and drop a supportive comment in hopes the author may finish it! or i may just skip it if its definitely not gonna be finished. 2 - for me, its disappointing to see a fic marked as finished and the last chapter is like one line saying its abandoned :( and 3 - in my personal opinion, posting a chapter outline feels like the equivalent of posting a twitter thread to ao3? if that brings you joy and you like to read them and share them thats awesome, i hope the people who like that format find them! but its not for me

i think part of the problem for me as a writer is that i have literally no idea where the muse will go or if i'll come back to something. will it be finished? will it go on hiatus? no idea! it's shroedinger's update up in here, bro

Q: Why are they furries?

A: ‘Cause I want them to be. I’m a furry and I enjoy drawing anthro characters. I know them being anthros have nothing to do with the story, lore, or symbolism at all but I don’t really care.

Q: Why are there two blogs? Why not just post the pages on this one?

A: I post the pages on a separate blog, @rose-fall-comic, for organization purposes. It’s easier to navigate the comic there than it would be on this blog. The pages have their own tagging system and I don’t want to add a whole bunch more tags to my tag guide just for volume navigation alone, so I feel it’s just best to keep them all in one place instead.

Adaptations

Q: Can I make a comic dub of Rose Fall?

A: Not yet. I know I’ll be ok with it one day though (when that happens I’ll update this answer). Just not now.

Q: Can I translate the comic into another language?

A: Yes, I’m all for making the comic accessible for other languages. As long as you keep the integrity of the original (dont change any story details, don’t change characters’ genders, sexualities, etc.). I will not endorse any translations that change things up like that. Make sure to post it with proper credit too, including links to the original english version. I’d prefer you post it either on Tumblr or ComicFury. If you want textless versions of the pages, DM me and I’ll provide you a link to a Trello board that holds textless versions of public pages so it’ll be easier for you to edit.

Q: Can I submit any of the characters to gimmick blogs? (otd blogs, polls, etc.)

A: Nope. I don’t want the kind of exposure polls or otd (of the day) blogs would give. Or any gimmick blog for that matter. This includes gimmick blogs made to be specifically about Rose Fall too (examples: roleplay blogs, incorrect quote blogs, out of context blogs, confession blogs, etc.).

Q: Can I make a tvtropes/fandom wiki/etc. page/article on Rose Fall?

A: Nope. I don’t plan on making any myself either. So if a fandom wiki, tvtropes page, etc. is made but there’s no announcement on this blog about it, then it is an unofficial source and most likely unreliable.

Q: Are headcanons regarding the characters ok?

A: It depends. I don’t want anyone having headcanons that changes a character’s gender or orientation (since none of my characters are allocishet) or headcanons that removes a character’s transness or disability. However, I am fine with trans headcanons of characters that aren’t canonically trans (as long as the gender itself isn’t changed) and headcanons that give a character a disability they aren’t confirmed to have (as long as its disability-positive, none of that “this character is an awful person so they must have [insert demonized mental disability]” bullshit). I also ask to not spread headcanons as though they are fact.

Q: Can you draw this or that for me?

A: I’m not taking requests. I’ll make posts whenever I’m feeling up for it though. But those times will be temporary and they won’t occur often.

A: I don’t like trying to translate my characters into worlds they weren’t made for. So you won’t be getting any answers to these kinds of questions.
