MCSM REMAKE ANALYSIS

god I’m so UNWELLLLL ABOUT THIS‼️‼️‼️ /POS

I just wanna state beforehand the trailer looks AWESOME, I have some criticisms but I’m MOSTLY excited! I haven’t played the game in years though, so a lot of my info is pure memory and the power of hyperfixation . It MAY be inaccurate and if it is, I do genuinely want to be corrected!

Male!White Jessie is the poster child, which makes sense as he is the most recognizable. As much as I LOVE female Jessie sm, I definitely recognize M by first glance.

The animation looks MUCH nicer, though it’s not shown in this screenshot! It’s got a raised FPS from the original, and actually doesn’t have a ton of lighting errors anymore!

They’re adding newer blocks, which I like a lot - though it does lead to one of the first major criticisms I have. They need to TREAD CAREFUL with new stuff. The amethyst looks great, but I guarantee 90% of people are going to play/watch Block by Block for nostalgia, and an OVERLOAD of new stuff will take away from this.

PETRA!!!!! She looks COOL in this shot, and in general! The lighting is GREAT, and I appreciate her getting an action shot! The shadow is a little intense, but no complaints here.

Olivia and Eligard using redstone lights is a nice touch, and connects the characters well. :)

It also begs the question of if Olivia (in that screenshot) is pre-witherstorm or post-witherstorm, as she WAS always a Redstone engineer but she got a lot of her inspiration and materials from Redstone City.

THE CREW! This is a GREAT starting shot, though I will unfortunately tripe that I wish the shading was less heavy here. Lucas looks great, and I’m happy to see him! He was always one of my favorites. :)

Alex and Olivia having a conversation, while Jessie and Lucas just separately enjoy the situation. Lucas doesn’t look super pleased here, but he isn’t really happy for most of MC:SM, so…. (Free my boy, he needs therapy) /j

I can’t tell if Gabriel is going to die or not, unfortunately. This scene looks like just adoration for his hero, but it also reminds me of the choice to take Eligard or Magnus’s armor, which worries me. Gabriel dying doesn’t seem too likely though, as we see him in shots that take place presumably later.

I’m not sure, but I THINK the first place here is Mobcity! If it is, WOAH. It looks INSANE! (/POS) I loved Mobcity so much when I first played the game, and seeing it again made me giggle a little bit.

The second and third locations are clearly Redstone City (Redstonia? I don’t remember the name, sorry!) And Boomtown. I personally always chose Boomtown when I played, but I watched people play Redstone city! They both look nice, and the more terf-war style chaos of Boomtown looks nice - it almost looks like something Fallout reminiscent to me.

I have a FEW thoughts here. First - the obvious, I can’t tell what the drones are. I’m likely forgetting something story wise - but I can’t identity where they come from. BUT, the lights in the background look a lot like White Pumpkins mansion zoomed in, which excites me.

Except…. I don’t think those are from White Pumpkin.

THIS shot interested me the most of the whole trailer. Red arrows shooting in a snowy forest. This appears to be the same location as the previous shot, and initially I thought these arrows were from PAMA. But that doesn’t make sense, she’s in the desert.

These arrows look like ROMEO. Sure, it’s a possibility they’re the poison arrows from the Mansion, but they’re glowing too bright and in addition to the drones from the previous shot makes me think them to be The Admins.

So how is HE, HERE? And why was only one drone blue? (Also, keep in mind I DO know the difference between the drones and phantoms).

Speaking of PAMA. HOLY. JEBUS. /POS

This looks TERRIFYING. I love this shot because it’s nailing in a concept the original kind of failed at, that this robot is ENSLAVING EVERYONE. These people are drones - pawns to the perfect system. And some of the armor here is detailed, making me think some of them are named characters. I don’t remember if any named characters get taken over in the original, but probably.

The Temple! It FEELS big just with this shot, which amazes me. 10/10, no comments.

This is the one shot I took a while to identify. I first thought this was the Spleef area for some reason, then I thought it was the Mob Grinder due to the downward shot, but it seems to simply be the cart ride near the beginning of the game through the nether. (Which is a shame, because I would LOVE to see the mob grinder in the trailer!)

The Piglins concern me a little for the same reason as the amethyst, so I restate - PLEASE don’t rely on new stuff. This is justifiable, as Pigmen are gone, but just a quick warning.

I CANT tell who the person on the left is, but I have a few theories? This is a snow environment, so my brain thought is that it’s somebody from the White Pumpkin area. But it looks a lot like (from memory) Ivors ninja costume. I’m sure there’s an obvious answer one google search could tell me, but I’m dumb and don’t wanna google stuff.

It could also be an anti-PAMA person? I don’t remember that plot too well, but wasn’t there also a blue headset used to see through the red ones?

AND FINALLY. THE ONE. THE ONLY.

THE WITHERSTORMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

I have SO many good things to say, as well as a few criticisms, but they’re so small I’ll knock them out now. The roof doesn’t really look like it’s glass being shattered, it looks too thick. And the color contrast is a tad too high.

That’s it. The whole criticism. NOW, it’s so BIG. It feels consuming, like it’s not just eating its environment but also growing too fast for even the camera to catch up with. One of my hopes is that they don’t have as many full-body shots of the creature, because shots like THIS - where it’s so large you can’t even SEE THE END (no pun intended) amaze me. I love these shots.

Anyway this excites me very much and also gave me motivation to crawl my MC:MS oc’s from the grave and look at their dirty, cringy asses again. I might remake them TBH, those concepts were fire. 10 year old me COOKED.

1. FIRST OF ALL I REALLY wish they had more time to focus on the big reveal because I waited since season for them to talk about the whole POINT situation and when they finally DO reveal laserblast's identity it's completely rushed. This is such an emotional plot line for MULTIPLE characters yet we only see a fraction of it! LIKE PLEEAAAAASE I WANT TO SEE MORE OF HOW THIS AFFECTED CAROL!!! What she went through is so tragic, she lost her love, her dream, her friends, AND she had to raise the child of her dead lover alone. And yet she stayed strong through all of it and became the best mom ever. (Carol I love you plz marry me)

ALSO I WILL NEVER GET OVER THE FACT THAT WE DON'T SEE GAR'S REACTION TO THE REVEAL!! He literally blamed himself for laserblast's death, who was his teammate, his best friend's lover AND K.O's father. Just imagine how he felt like knowing K.O looked up to him as a father figure while thinking it's his fault K.O doesn't have a dad???

And also every other POINT member's lives were immensly affected by laserblast's death, like Rippy roo who dedicated years of her life trying to find a way to bring him back or Greyman trying to make a hero people could look up to or Foxtail still holding a grudge against Gar for what happened. I reaaally wanna know how they would react to knowing not only their friend is alive but he is also a successful villain.

2. Another thing I REALLY wanted to see was Rad and Dendy's relationship actually being explored! I used to think her "obsession" with Rad was nothing more than a gag but I saw that there was supposed to be an episode explaining that "she looked up to Rad because he's unashamed of who he is even though he comes from he considered as unusual family background." AND IT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!! I think that would've been an amazing way to explore both of their characters.

Also it's pretty ironic because Rad IS ashamed of who he is! Since day one he's been hiding things he loves and acting like a jerk to cover up his insecurities. I think Dendy telling him she looks up to him would've encouraged him to change the way he acts just like in the "Radical rescue" episode, when he tells K.O he doesn't want him to imitate his bad behavior.

3. Now we're getting to the REAL interesting part. BOXBOTS!!!! LISTEN I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THEM BUT I'M GONNA TRY TO MAKE IT SHORT AND UNDERSTABLE.

I REALLYYY wish we had more moments of vulnerabilty with them. Pretty much every single one of their scene is comedic and, while I do ADORE the comedy, I still wish they were taken more seriously. Like their whole situation is really tragic in many ways yet it's completely ignored. I know it's a mostly light hearted show but the boxbots are never given a genuine moment that felt like their feelings were taken seriously. It's probably just me who's wayyyy too attached to them but my favorite moments are when we get to see the more "human" side of them. Like when they act like an actual family, playing board games, having dinner together, hanging out, or bickering like siblings

I wish they explored how being robots affects them and the way everyone treats them. It's like robots are not considered like "real people" to some degree. We already know that in the okko universe being a certain species will change the way people perceive you and treat you (ie aliens and kappas) and it's shown to be a bad thing when it happens to Rad and Dendy, but when the bots are treated badly it's always seen as a joke and brushed bc you know , they're robots so who cares. There's like an implication that all robots are inherently bad because they're robots, K.O even said Mr.logic was "one of the good ones" implying he's just an exception (also it's crazy that he actually said that sentence and no one batted an eye)

And finally the ONE thing I really REEAALLYYY wanted to see more of is *drum rolls* LORD COWBOY DARRELL (who could've seen that coming)

LISTEN THERE WAS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL THERE IT ACTUALLY MAKES ME CRAZY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT I WISH I WAS EXAGGERATING!!! Like for the first time we actually see boxman suffer the consequences of his actions, his kids FINALLY stand up to him after being treated like crap 24/7 and then he's forgiven in episode two??? And we don't even see how this affects the other bots!! Like Raymond and Shannon also loved boxman but they seemingly didn't hesitate to side with Darrell over him. I wish they explored how they chose their brother over their father who they were absolutely devoted to since birth.

I was actually disappointed to see Darrell forgive him SO easily and all the character development he could've had was thrown out the window in two seconds!!!! We actually get a glimpse of Darrell's potential but it's all forgotten as soon as Boxman becomes the boss again

I loved seeing Darrell actually fight back for once because he is one of the characters who gets mistreated the MOST by the whole cast. Half of his scenes are just him getting beat up and insulted, he's always treated like an idiot or a joke character so it was incredibly satisfying to see him actually stand up for himself and take charge. Like yeah he is goofy as hell and very immature and I love that about him! But when he became Lord Cowboy Darrell we actually got to see a whole new side of him. He was cunning and smart and resourceful and it KILLS me that we never got see that side of him again. I wish people aknowledged how competent and mature he can be instead of treating him like an actual child. I actually hate how infantilized he is sometimes

Anyway I could go on and on and on forever about the boxbots but that's just a few things i wish the show focused more on, there's probably more but I can't remember them rn

the lights in his room are dimmed, only his gaming lights are switched on. kenma's sharp eyes stings when he turned on his desktop for the ninth time of the day.

he gets his live ready, he just hit 10 million subscribers and now he wants to celebrate it with a Q&A with his fans. well, he promised his fans anyways, there's no going back now.

as his live starts, the camera turns on and he sees the chat run saying their his and hellos. some fans notice his eyebags, worrying about his appearance. some are donating already, throwing thousands of yens to him.

his appearance is quite bad. eyebags visible and you can literally see the tiredness in his eyes. his shoulders looks weak. but he can't back up now, he tweeted that he was gonna be live to celebrate his new achievement.

kenma giggles, “thank you for the dono.. kodzulove. yes, yes, we’re doing a Q&A today. don’t worry, i promised you guys..”

he looks down searching for something. it took him a second since his room is dark. he shows his fans his favorite black hair tie and begin to tie up his dyed hair into a bun. a lot of his fans goes crazy over this, kenma doesn’t realize why though. somehow it’s hot to them.

“alright. let’s start! first of all, congratulations for me for hitting 10 million subscribers. but of course i wouldn’t achieve this without you all …” kenma continues to ramble about his achievement and his gratitude towards his fans.

“.. okay, i’ve rambled too much. let’s start the Q&A now, remember that i can’t see every question because you guys are going fast in the chat. maybe i should turn on slow-mode.” kenma sighs into the mic and coughs before starting.

he reads out a question, “why did you start your channel?”

“pretty much because i liked gaming since i was a child. then i found out i can make money out of it, so.. yeah.” he smiles.

“can you prank kuroo again?”

kenma laughed as he read the question, he remembers the day he pranked kuroo by wasting his money to buy fucking apple pies from the nearby bakery, “soon. maybe. that might be a death wish though.”

“when can we see you play observation duty?”

“ah, right! i’ll play that soon, the horror game won the poll i started right?”

after a few questions, kenma got bored until he finds an unusual question. his fans mostly questions him about him and his gaming industry. only a few would ask him about his private life, his true fans knows that kenma doesn’t like being questioned about his real life.

“kenma, how’s your partner?”

he reveals a sweet smile before speaking, “they’re doing great. they’re currently doing their essay in the room beside mine. you know, they brought me dinner and dessert to my desk today just before i started this live. i said thank you but i genuinely feel like i can’t show them the love they deserve.

my partner has been spoiling me these days and i just wanna say that it’s cute. when i got home yesterday, my desk was clean. no, my room was clean. then i saw them sleeping on my bean bag..”

kenma stops and reads a comment, “yeah, the green bean bag one fan bought me. thank you for that by the way.”

“but anyways, i just wanna say that i love them so much and i feel like i don’t deserve them. yeah, yeah. i get it. i never say these type of things. but really, i feel like i don’t appreciate their love enough. what do you guys think i should do for them?” he leans down to his chair for awhile.

his chat goes crazy, a lot of awws and suggestions were said. donations flows in quick and he can hear the notifications in his ears.

‘take them out to a date!’

‘get them a gift!’

kenma gets up and giggles while waving his hands in front of his camera, “i’ll do your suggestions. okay, enough of that. next!”

Why? Why did your little cousin want to go to this place?!

Everything was too loud! The screeching banshees called children were running around your legs… Angsty teens all the while obnoxiously teasing them from the halls… Meanwhile the other adults kept up their meaningless chattering… Not to mention the kiddie songs playing on loop for the past hour and a half. They should use this as a tactic to torture criminals… You’d confess to a murder you didn’t even commit just to get out of here right now.

Your aunt looked at you with a pressuring stare as you tried once again to slowly back away to the exit. The party was only halfway done. They hadn’t even done cake and presents yet. Who were you to ruin a kid’s birthday party with your slowly escalating migraine? The other adults tolerated fine, so you could handle yourself for just a little longer… Right. Right?

You saw some little boy with a bear crying as he tugged on the security guard’s hand. The guard knelt down and picked up the child, pressing one ear against his chest and covering the other with his hand. Initially you were upset by the noise the kid made, but that poor little dude must have found this all way too loud as well… Can’t blame him.

The man caught you staring and raised an eyebrow, icy blue eyes flickering in curiosity. It made you look away and resort to walking to one of the back halls. The guard was tracking your movements, probably suspicious of you messing with something. You didn’t realize this hallway wasn’t the one customers were supposed to enter, as you saw a group of teens with candy cigarettes at the end of the corridor. They didn’t seem to care about your presence.

You stayed in the corner opening up to the party area, watching as the guard passed you with the boy in tow. He seemed to look you over, pause, then nod his head slightly in acknowledgement, as if knowing why you were here. The boy didn’t make eye contact with you, too focused on the bear in his arms. It alarmed you that the guard took the child to one of the back rooms, but then you took a step back and assumed that must just be his child.

Your cousin’s wailing was heard from the party area as someone else took a turn on a game before them, and you were beginning to lose your composure. Now every sound took you one step closer to overload. Every word spoken, every buzz of the florescent lights, every single beat in that same stupid kiddie song. It all became too much. You pressed your hands against your ears and stayed at the corner of the entrance to the hallway. A few staff members and now the teenagers looked at you funny, but it was at least a little quieter over here.

You needed the noise to stop. You needed it NOW.

“Are you alright, pal?”

You nearly fell over into a bunch of balloons. The figure was inches away from you. It was the goofy rabbit robot from the stage. What the fuck was it doing back here?!

“Careful—“ A cold metal hand grabbed your wrist and pulled you back up, but in the process…

POP!

A balloon must have come into contact with a sharp piece of the rabbit’s hand, popping instantly. It was quiet for a moment apart from the music… Then one by one, every child started crying or exclaiming, and all the parents rushed to calm them. A cacophony of chaotic emotions and voices dominated even the loud kiddie tunes in volume. All the while the robot bear alone on stage went through the same motions.

“…Oops…” The animatronic murmured in a sort of surprised defeat, turning to you, “Follow me to the back… Those rooms are soundproof.”

You didn’t think twice and let yourself be led by the hand to one of the back rooms of this shoddy establishment. It smelled like sweat and pizza grease, with the lingering stench of something metallic. But oh was the quiet in this room the most beautiful music you ever heard… You sighed in relief and took a few deep breaths.

“That’s a lot better, isn’t it?” The rabbit tilted their head almost mechanically.

“God yeah…” You murmured, “Thanks…”

They couldn’t smile, but their jaw closed a bit as if to give off an impression they could. They had their arms open, as if expecting a hug.

Oh right… Kid’s mascot. This thing probably always expected people to get touchy. You were surprised at how gently it held you when you invited it to. It actually was a welcome feeling…? You sighed, shaking your head.

“Great. My cousin is gonna say this is the worst party ever now…” You covered one of your eyes with a hand, trying to block out light and ease the migraine.

“Aw, gosh… I don’t think so…” The rabbit spoke, establishing space between you both again, “They looked like they were having a blast out there!”

“R-really?” You frowned, “They’re a bit of a brat… Anything not perfect on their birthday could set them off into a tantrum. I didn’t want to ruin their party by leaving—“

“You didn’t ruin their party! It’s not even over yet, silly!” The automaton rabbit reassured you, “It settles down after the first half. Trust me… Once the little buggers have pizza, cake and ice cream in them, they start getting groggy…”

“Yeah… I guess…” You sighed, looking around at all the spare robotic parts in the room curiously now that your mind was clearer, “I…I think I am ready to go back now.”

“Let’s see…” The animatronic opened the door to hear the announcement for everyone to gather around for cake and the birthday song, “Oh, dear! I’m late— I need to get back on stage before—“

“There you are. Why did you leave the stage? Run along before they start without you…” A stern but almost threatening voice came from outside as the animatronic gave you one last look and left to take their place.

You got up to leave the room, bumping into the guard from before.

“Well, I see you got a backstage tour from Spring Bonnie… ” The same voice said with a snide tone, “Enjoy yourself?”

“Sorry, sir…” You dusted off your pants, “I got overwhelmed by the noise and they were just trying to help me. Please don’t fire them.”

“Fire them?” The man laughed, as if your statement was somehow utterly ridiculous, “Oh, no, I couldn’t possibly do that…”

“But… But wasn’t that one of your employees in a cos—“

“We make some real magic happen here at Fredbear’s Family Diner.” He winked, turning away, “Now if you’ll excuse me, my son also has issues with sensory overload and I ought to check on him in my office…”

You made your way back out to the party area and saw your little cousin happily blowing out candles. Getting close to the stage, you saw that in fact there was no sign of a person in that rabbit. There was no way that was just a robot? It was way too intelligent!

The rabbit winked at you before seemingly not acknowledging your existence for the rest of the day.

bungou stray dogs - ranpo's invitation to yosano fucking CINEMATIC okay. i cried. the way it was set up, with ranpo kneeling to yosano's level and promising her a place to stay. the lighting of this scene giving it such a hopeful look. the emotional impact. they are my favourite duo in bsd and their dynamic is sooo precious to me and i just. one of my fav scenes in bsd EVER!!!

haikyuu - tsukishima's block THIS WAS JUST PHENOMANAL KSFHJ. the POWER. the SCREAM. the perfect moment for his character arc, the 'it' moment. oh my god. i only very recently got into haikyuu and this scene lives in my head rent free

vanitas no carte - s2 finale fight THEY WERE INSANE FOR THIS. this entire fight had me on the edge of my seat. if it's one thing vnc is an expert in it's setting a scene. the rain the lighting the FEAR through the screen. this shit was RAW. when vanoé got into the 'ill kill you thatll shut you up' position i literally screamed. vanitas' turmoil vs noé's devastation oh my godddd. domi unlocking her powers. jeanne's entire role. there was so much happening and GOD it was amazing i loved it

jujutsu kaisen - so start by saving me sigh. LIFE GETS BETTER DONT GET INTO JUJUTSU KAISEN. this panel lives in my head rent free and i think if i ever see it animated i'd burst into tears. megumi saying this to yuuji means so much to their characters okayyy two people who have always been saving each other, megumi who watched yuuji die in front of him, IT MEANS SO MUCH. i would ramble more but alas i dont wanna turn this into an essay

moriarty the patriot - the moriarty brothers reunite CRIED FR. i just. the EMOTIONS. the way they did everything for each other and had to separate for three years and how both albert and louis thought william was dead and how none of them really ever forgave themselves but they forgive each other, so thats all that matters, isn't it? and how soothing this hug was, like finally finding your home again, and how THEY ARE FAMILY ough im so ill. i adore this moment

bungou stray dogs - you are but a child this scene hurt me then healed me. i actually cried so hard. their dynamic is so important to meee and they're both learning to care and love for the first time and they found comfort in each other and ranpo is just a CHILD and fukuzawa helps him see that it's okay and and. sniffles. bring them back asagiri this is a threat

vanitas no carte - i've decided to stay by your side, vanitas this is just because i'm in love with noé and i think vanitas realised things about himself here too/j. but on a serious note i think this was one of the greatest turning points in their relationship. i like the vibe of them on the tower and the sun rise coming up when they swear to stay together. cinematic asf

For anyone who isn't op, these rambles will include SPOILERS up to the end of season two of yugioh vrains. If ye wish to not know, scroll past quickly.

Okay SO:

Ai- Little little guy. I freaking love him so much. Yugioh has pretty consistently done a Dark =/= Bad and Light =/= Good, (more on that later) and Ai is such a freaking good entry into that. Ai is the dark ignis and he's the most human of them all, messy and lazy and silly. And he's like the only one of them who has ANY non-cyberse, non-Lost Incident life experience like!!!! Of course he talks like a comments section! Of course he has free will and self awareness and the first thing he did to prove this was "exerting his free will" by rolling his eye(s)! And OH MY GOD him and Yusaku. The relationship each ignis has with their lost child is SO important to me. Ai and Yusaku are, on the surface, the most different, but where they agree is their sense of surety and their sense of freedom. Ai and Yusaku have the exact same confidence in themselves. In Yusaku, it's the self confidence of knowing he's done everything he can and is smart enough to be prepared for anything. When Ai tells him "just get lucky!" and Yusaku goes "No, I'm not going to get lucky, but I'm going to win anyway." And that's SO fascinating because Ai has that same self confidence, but essentially learned it from Yusaku, that survival response of 'I am good enough that this will work'. Yusaku taught Ai everything about asserting yourself, and it's buried beneath layers and layer of different experiences, but fundamentally they're the same, the same trauma of 'I will be better. I will be enough by myself, because I am in this alone.' and then they find they are both strong but they're stronger together and it makes me want to BITE SOMETHING.

Flame- Why is he britsh??? Theo isn't british. He was not made in britain nor was anyone on the project british. I can only assume he purposefully chose that accent to make himself sound smarter. I love him for it. Flame and Theo are tied up in a lot of headcanon for me, most specifically I think Theo is the lost kid who lost the most (barring Spectre, who sometimes lost on purpose) before getting the hang of the game. Thus, his whole rising from the ashes motif. Teddy and Flame are the survival response of spitting out a tooth and getting back up again. They lived through the incident by refusing to stay down, and yet somehow they came out of it as a friendly jock and a silly little nerd guy. The obvious care they have for each other absolutely sends me. Flame's argument against the war is literally "We can coexist with humans. I am coexisting with a human right now, and you cannot stop me." When his home was destroyed the first thing he did was seek out Theodore. I AM GOING INSANE. And of course Theo dropped everything and moved across the country just to help someone he really didn't know before that day ARE YOU KIDDING ME. They are involved in this entire story because they cannot comprehend not helping eachother. Also, again, jock and nerdy solidarity but the dorky guy with the glasses is the jock and the literal being of fire is the nerd.

Lightning- ALSO INSANE ABOUT HIM. JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING. Okay so like I said I have only recently finished season 2 and haven't started on 3 yet so we haven't had a whole lot of screentime with Jin so I can only guess on how they impact and inform each other but. OH MAN. I mean, I feel like I have to take a whole section just to talk about his PERFORMANCE. His english voice acting is phenomenal, just the right amount of utterly sinister, tempered with this no-nonsense confidence that feels perfect for his grand speeches of logical thinking. Lightning is terrifying, easily one if not the stand out villain performance in all of yugioh for me. You don't side with him, but the audience can see exactly how he gets from Point A to Point B, and that clarity of reason makes him both easily understandable and terrifying. And his visual aesthetics. Blinding light, scorching brilliance, the exact same electricity that the Lost Incident is so known for. Lighting shares a lot with his progenitor experiment, with both him and Revolver learn from Dr. Kogami's "The ends justify the means" approach. Really, Lightning and Revolver are the real opposed rivals here, except they're both the villain so neither one can narratively win. All they can do is ensure the other loses. And I said we haven't seen too much from Jin yet but that does not stop me from CONNECTING SOME THEMATIC DOTS. The complete and total shutdown of Jin compared to the detatched and pragmatic coldness of Lightning. Their survival instinct is disassociation. Shutting off the panicking part of the brain, and all its human responses, in favor of pure autopilot and a "Whatever It Takes" approach to ensure continued survival. Lightning rejects so much of where he cam from, but is so clearly the product of the Lost Incident, and more specifically, Jin. Of humanity. He's got this great line towards Ai where he berates him for basically screwing around in cyberspace for five years, while the rest of them were being actively targeted. Hunted. Surviving. Ai got new experiences, isn't defined as strongly by his trauma. But Lightning and Jin? Both of them completely froze their development, are still stuck in their survival instincts, and cannot move on from it. And I have a pet theory that may or may not see validation, that the Armatos Legios aren't really Lightning's. I mean, roman gladiator don't really tie into anything else about his aesthetics. No, I think no matter what he pretends, the Armatos are Jin's deck, and Lightning is still using them, after all these years.

Windy- Haha silly little fast talk guy who- THIS SIX INCH TALL LITTLE FELLA STRAIGHT UP KILLED HIS LOST KID. This little whirlygig canonically ended the life of his counterpart, something Lightning himself actually frowned upon. I think about this way too much. Windy isn't pragmatic, he isn't logical, he's the free spirited "fuck around" to Lightning's "find out". Windy does what he wants when he wants, and that's somehow equally as scary as Lightning's calculated cruelty. I am gutted we didn't get to meet or ever find out anything more about his human partner, and I'm pretty sure that's the whole point. There was a kid out there with his own struggles, his own problems, his own ways of dealing with the trauma of the Lost Incident, and we just. We will never get to meet him. Windy's kid is the first casualty in this war, and we never get to even learn his name. Also the ramifications of Windy being so cavalier about killing someone who is in some lights a version of himself, of the casual dehumanization Windy takes, not just to himself, but to his fellow Ignis. When threatening to kill Ai, Lightning had a "Well, it will kill 16% of our population, but it will ensure the safety of 84% of us." Windy has no such calculation. Windy doesn't bat an eye at his own death, or the death of another Ignis. And yet. And yet. And yet. When designing a servant for himself, Windy formed one out of a music note. A treble clef. The symbol for the start of a song. Does it mean something? Probably not. But I am freaking haunted by the idea that this wounded ai escaped a second attack on his world, and started rebuilding, not weapons, or schemes. But a new home, and one with music.

Aqua- You know, the ignis are one of the few artificial intelligences where it kinda makes sense that they have genders. Aqua is a girl because she learned from a girl. Her femininity is a gift, or a memorial. So is her kindness. Aqua is the only ignis who really internalized hope and compassion. She sees truth and she doesn't let it break her, she fights by encouraging choice, by asking for opportunity. Her refusing to tell Earth which way to feel in regards to the question of Humans vs. Ignis is such a poignant moment for me, that here is someone who understands better than anyone, what Lightning feels and how humans act, but rather than share her suspicions, she asks Earth to form his own opinion, not just listen to her as his only source. In general, I just like Earth and Aqua's dynamic so much. Two sweet protectors, two pacifists, represented by plant life and water??? Good good good visual motifs. That said, I definitely think Aqua is a character they could do a lot more with. All the other Ignis are just so weird, so charmingly strange in any conversation, that it feels a bit of a missed opportunity that Aqua seems completely "normal" and well adjusted. I also am saddened we haven't seen Miyu aside from in a coma or in flashbacks, because as I mentioned, I am utterly insane for the ignis/lost kids dynamics. But she got introduced pretty late in season two, so I'm holding out hope that we see more of Aqua (and maybe Miyu!) in season 3. Also, the crystal heart combo was some of my favorite gameplay story telling this season, hands down.

Earth- Pour one out for my guy. They really did that to him. As silly as Spectre's backstory is, it really gets me that he has this deeply unhealthy attachment to literally anyone who offers him a place to belong. And his Ignis is the protector, the caregiver. Earth, who can make flowers bloom with barely a thought, who's "socially awkward" but genuinely kind, comes from the child who just wanted attention and was at home in the forest. The freaking hardest gutpunch of the season for me was when Earth is being ripped apart, and we cut to Spectre, shedding a single tear, and he has no idea why. Also THAT'S A PLOTLINE THAT REALLY EXISTS IN YUGIOH. Earth's death is almost jump-scaringly brutal, from the same series that brought you such fun euphemisms for a character being killed as "sent to the shadow realm" and "retired retired". Yeah, no, here's a character being systematically unmade, then those leftover pieces shoved into one dude's brain. The dub could have downplayed it, but the sheer horror every character gives when Gore has his big reveal, really sells the brutality of Sol Tech towards these ai, and any living being that isn't contributing to their bottom dollar. Ryoken's cold deliverance to Ai and Flame about Earth's fate, even almost making light of the situation, had me 100% down to declare for the ignis because what the hell, you can't just do that. If Ai turns heel next season, I'm not saying I support him, but I get it. Earth's death feels like it rattles the whole narrative, in a way that forced me to be just as distraught and emotionally invested as the characters. That's good storytelling babey.

This got long, and this is barely scratching the surface on some of my thoughts for these silly little computer guys.

fandom asks! 1, 3, 12 <3

1. What is the first fandom you were ever a part of?

I had done stuff like make OCs for Naruto before this, but I consider Kingdom Hearts my first fandom because I was so obsessed with it that I drove my middle school best friend riiiiiight up the wall. 😅 It was also the first thing I sought out communities for online when I was a preteen. I didn't talk much to people (and still get nervous trying to), but I liked to lurk on fanshrines, fanfiction sites, and forums. I wrote a couple fics myself that have long been purged from the Internet, kept what were basically Incorrect KH Quotes in my diary, and spent way too much time at school explaining why the hell I had a shirt that had both Donald Duck and an anime boy on it. The thing I wanted most in my life in middle school yet never got was an Axel plushie lol, and I still consider getting one occasionally to sate my inner child. I had a couple OCs--one meant to be shipped with Axel, another kind of with Larxene, and another just for the sake of having a Keyblade wielder of my own--but didn't do much with them. It'd be fun to remake them and find places in the universe for them now. They probably wouldn't be shipped w/ any canon characters since I don't have the urge to OC ship w/ KH nowadays, but who knows!

I've been a lifelong fan and tried to keep up with the games even when I wasn't able to play all of them. Knowing new KH games would come out in the future is something that's helped me through the hardest parts of my life. I will always be here for the ride!

3. All-time favorite pairing?

Okay, so. Hear me out. It's Kingdom Hearts again, but a ship that would be horrible for each other. They've only interacted a handful of times and canonically cannot stand each other. I'm picky about the ship because it doesn't work if you sand down the edges and make them nice to each other.

I have shipped Larxene and Demyx since I was twelve specifically because it would be awful for Demyx. I don't dislike him at all, quite the opposite. I just like to see cute men miserable, horny, and miserably horny at the hands of sadistic women. I also always liked the inherent sting and struggle in a pairing of lightning and water, how they would hurt each other even if they tried to earnestly communicate. She's too bitter; he's too flippant. Great angst fuel!

On a lighter note, I'm also a really big fan of Tokoyami/Aoyama from My Hero Academia. They're both dramatic weirdos and complement each other with their themes of light and darkness, and I got dragged into it by a friend who had the headcanon that Dark Shadow likes shiny things--and what's the shiniest thing in all of UA?

Lastly, if anybody brings up Anastasia and the baker (he doesn't even have a name 💀) from Cinderella II within a twenty mile radius of me I will start hooting and hollering. I've been rooting for them since the day I got the Cinderella II book as part of the Disney's Wonderful World of Reading program in first grade. Anastasia Tremaine deserves the world and also a cute man who will feed her the tastiest treats for the rest of her life.

12. Craziest thing you've ever done as part of a fandom?

Hmm, I feel like I'm a pretty tame person... Maybe giving one of my online friends my Obey Me login because I really needed inpatient psychiatric care for a couple days but that meant I wouldn't be able to grind for Leviathan's birthday card, which was at that point probably the only thing I was looking forward to in my life. Like I literally hesitated to take my ass to the hospital because I didn't wanna miss out on him. 😭 (This was a couple years ago. My mental health is a lot better nowadays!) (And yes I got the card lol, big shout-out to my friend you are the GOAT.)

Maybe the crying log also counts? I have a count (although it's inexact since I didn't start it until late June) of every time I cry over Roger because I think the combo of his dacryphilia and my tendency to tear up at the tiniest things is funny. One time I started crying because his wet arms are just so beautiful... Some of my friends receive occasional photographic proof when this happens. 😅

Had too many classes and too much homework today so have some Nico ask game answers because I don't wanna wait for people to ask.

I may have to say "The Seed" by AURORA. I've been obsessed with her Sky: Children of the Light concert, recently, and that song goes hard lol.

Something simple, like hot chocolate with whipped cream and some peppermint. If it's really hot out, though, they'd go for any sort of lemonade. They really like Blue Raspberry flavor.

3. what is their color palette? or what colors do you associate with them?

Purple and Black, and only when it's those two colors together. Otherwise, as a single color, they are so very red. A burgundy, maybe.

Anything chocolate. Except cake/cupcakes. They don't like the texture. They do love a good muffin, though.

Dusk. As the moon is rising and the sun is setting.

Stars. They shine and burn. They are admired, but eternally imploding.

No. Not only is Nico a child for a good chunk of their story, but they're also very AroAce.

Also no. They're AroAce. But if someone else thinks their OC and Nico would click well, they can be friends or in a qpp.

Autumn. Warm and crisp, pumpkin and spice.

Not really. Theyre just tired. Bugs/Spiders give them the creeps, though.

They do! A pair of younger twins, five years younger. They were seven when Nico disappeared. I wonder if they even remember their older sibling?

I kinda base all OCs around myself, so yeah. I imagine we have the same body type and the same life experience up until Nico was summoned to the Spiral.

One for just about every fandom, if not multiple per. So... a lot. Possibly uncountable.

Obviously, my current favorite is my son Nico.

Unfortunately, no. And I likely never will.

Purple. After so much time, they still love purple.

An old jacket that came to the Spiral with them from home. Its a comforting texture and covers their arms when their robe doesn't.

Mortis and Blossom let Nico rest in their branches. They ask for permission every time even though the trees insist they don't need to. Nico also enjoys sitting on the roof of their House and staring into the stars.

27. do you have any AUs for your oc?

My other Death Wizard, Moira. They're the result of being born earlier, and thus being given more time to find themself. They're a high school graduate when Ambrose summons them to Ravenwood. They're able to shoulder the responsibility of holding the fate of the Spiral in their hands. Not that Nico was incapable. But Nico's a child. They never learned healthy coping mechanisms. Basically, Moira is able to keep smiling, while Nico gave up on it.

28. is there an aesthetic for your oc?

Enderman from Minecraft lol.

But on the pseudo-official list, Dark Academia, Alternative (that is, if they weren't basically a celebrity and created fashion trends), Cryptidcore, and other similar ones.

The only self care they perform is knocking back a potion when they're injured. Other than basic hygiene and some magic tricks they learned to prevent acne, they are the worst at taking care of themself.

The only self-care practice they have is reading a book in Mortis' branches

I've never written a cynical character before. Theyre always optimistic, chaotic and proud, and ever-smiling. I'm excited to try and write a child's whimsical imagination turn into exhaustion and pessimism lol

My new WIP is a Percy Jackson style, middle-grade, fantasy story but with Arthurian legend! Here's some of my favorite (funny and serious) quotes.

The only ways to not pass inspection were being found with contraband or being found with a room that looked like a tornado had blown through it. Archie was now facing the latter. Typically Archie didn’t care about failing the inspection but if he failed it this time it wouldn’t just mean scrubbing the dorm toilets for a week (which he considered himself pretty darn good at.)

“It doesn’t say drummer on here.” “An astute observation! That’s because I’ve already found one.” James smiled at him but Archie still wasn’t getting it. Archie rolled his eyes. “Well thanks, but I don’t play anything but the drums. And trust me I’ve tried. You do not wanna hear my guitar skills, and I swear my singing would cause an avalanche.”

“We’ve been friends for a while, and I’d totally understand if you want it to stay that way but…uhm…” Sammie pushed up their glasses, trying to get the words out, and for once in his life Archie wasn’t oblivious.

“Oh look Archie’s here!” One of the girls giggled. Marley rolled her eyes.

“You still cool to help me with my math homework tonight? I am totally stumped on it, man!”

Marley had never been more ready to leave. “Yeah definitely.”

“Oh come on, Archie can come too! You have all of tomorrow to finish your homework.” The same girl said.

Now Archie was eager to get away from them too.

“Is that your imaginary girlfriend from America?” Marley leaned forward on the table, trying to sneak a peek at Archie’s phone.

“Partner,” Archie corrected. “And they are not imaginary.”

The moment dragons and magic came up Archie turned into a child, wide-eyed and filled with wonder. Archie was almost bouncing with energy as they reached the street performer, Marley lagged behind looking like a tired mom.

“Eat my…sword?!” Archie realized he had no clue what he was in for. He’d only ever fought monsters in video games, the best creature he killed were bugs. But obviously you couldn’t just stomp on an elephant sized dragon, or hit it with a book. Well he could hit it with a book but it probably wouldn’t do very good.

The dragon thrashed its wings back, attempting to throw Archie from itself. Archie stabbed his sword in its back and held on for dear life. He came back down on the back of the dragon with such force that he was sure he would have scale-shaped bruises for weeks, but he managed to hold on. He yanked the sword out, straddling the creature’s back. He began to crawl further.

“You called me something at the lake, Archie Pendragon. That’s- that���s not my name.” Excalibur glowed in Archie’s hand, emanating a weak golden light. It hummed with magical energy. “And is this really…”

“Yes, young hero. I have entrusted this sacred weapon in your hands. You are its rightful owner now. Merlin will teach you, do not worry.”

“Merlin? Wouldn’t he be dead?”

“Ah,” She smiled. “You have much to learn, young one. Something stirs in Camelot, a great evil is reawakening. I can feel my sister’s presence. She is closer than we think.”

But now Archie was walking through an actual Medieval kingdom, well that or he was dead. But he figured at least if he was dead he would have the sickest afterlife if it were anything like this.

“Excalibur?” Archie drew the sword with pride. “Yeah, I just happened to find it after I fought a dragon.” Archie smiled, leaning the blade back on his shoulder casually.

Okay, so he was bragging a little bit. But hey, he did just defeat a dragon. Not alone, and mostly because of luck. But still, after such a life-threatening experience he deserved to be a tad cocky.

“That leaves our last matter. Merlin’s apprentice.”

Archie fought the urge to raise his hand and volunteer. He wanted to jump up and down and say ‘Me! Me! I wanna learn magic!’ but, he knew better than that. He already had the legendary Excalibur, he was not going to get greedy now.

The first thing Marley did was slap Archie square in the face.

“Aw, you cared that I was gone!” Archie teased.

“¡Por supuesto! No, obviously you just died and I was okay with it! Of course I cared, you’re my best friend. And if you ever dare to suggest that I do not care-”

“Okay okay! Sorry-” Archie had only been trying to lighten her mood but Marley looked even more upset than before. So he decided to just shut up for the time being.

Archie was happy to be dreaming about Sammie. Especially now that his dreams were so vivid.

The next tapestry depicted a young boy pulling a sword from an anvil. The boy had golden blonde hair, and bore a remarkable resemblance to Archie. The boy was so scrawny, and it was crazy to think that he would become the great King Arthur.

“No,” Queen Guinevere studied the tapestry. “Her mother was hopelessly in love with Lancelot, he entertained the idea for a while. She was Lanetta’s mother, but Lancelot would not stay with her. A week after bearing her child, she died of heartbreak. After her mother died, Lancelot felt responsible for her care.”

“Great guy…” Archie muttered.

For a while Marley hated them, and she tried to run away three times in the first year. Eventually she came to terms with her new life, pouring everything into her football. Then of course the moment she had finally gotten used to everything, it changed again.

“Pretty much all my life. Once I was big enough to hold a sword, my father taught me how to swing it.”

It was approximately five minutes before Archie decided to go in after her. For the most part he wasn’t worried but he’d lost sight of Marley so quickly, god forbid if anything were to happen to her on his watch. Plus, after she’d left, weird things began happening.

“Here, put these on.” She said, pushing the armor into his arms. “Then meet me in the courtyard. Your training starts now.”

“But it’s so early!”

Lanetta rolled her eyes, “You’re never going to become a proper successor to King Arthur if you keep complaining like that.”

“I need to see your skill now. Think of it like an evaluation.” She said, settling into her fighting stance.

“But-”

“You defeated a dragon did you not?” Lanetta raised a brow.

“Well…” Archie sighed. “Yeah, I guess I did.” He wasn’t feeling so confident about that fact now.

okay uhhhh there are a few things I wanna ramble abt here so I’ll add dividers

the concept of the drawing

Ooookay as u can probably guess this is an oc thing 🎉 no one rlly cares about them but uhhh i still post relentlessly :D i plan to turn most of them into a video game (that somewhat resembles Nintendo style games (that’s a whole other thing to get into but not right now) and i plan for this to be a side game more dialogue and story focused than the other (more gameplay and story). The main concept is i have snatched up most of the characters and put them into this mindscape place called the Memorial, which resembles a large marble building with lots of pillars and portals (they have name signs but I didn’t want to put them into the drawing). All of the portals are ways to see into their memories and how their lives used to be (for lore opportunities) without disturbing the events and to put it in a more clear light. As for the characters themselves, in both games there’s gonna be at least 6 different playable characters, and despite the drawing only showing Axel (he’s probably gonna be the poster child for this) most of all the characters will be in this. As for their appearance, within the Memorial they will look more like their younger selves (can be small differences like Axels haircut being weird or Quin having an entirely different hair color) and will wear this weird a$$ flowy dress ish thing (w maybe some char special additives (such as axels neck ribbon thing) (they also can float) (dreamscape oooo) I chose this song for a lot of the overall messaging and visuals from the video. oh yeah i can relate, L. i had exactly one close friend growing up (most kids didn't DISLIKE me but they thought i was weird and intense) that i would play games with littlest pet shop figures with. littlest pet shop is a series of little animal toys in multiple colors and such, btw. but i always had a specific way i wanted things to go, but my friend had thoughts too and wanted chances to have an input too, and i reacted with 'Absolutely Not, fuck you' except not swearing because i was a good child. and i also got very fatigued after talking too long, so i'd just wanna go silent and start arranging the figures, but she didn't like that. and when i suggested we play a video game or watched a movie, she didn't like that either. looking back, it's a wonder we stayed friends as long as we did.

a sort of side story, when i was like 7 or 8, i got my first set of pokemon cards. i loved looking at them and organizing them and making decks (although they were always poorly balanced) and my mom took me to a local game store to learn to actually play the game. i was TERRIBLE, but i LOVED playing. my favorite part was looking at other people's cards, especially pikachu cards.

one time, i DID win though, and it was when all the cards were against me. however, there's a Lot of context to make it understandable.

so the way pokemon TCG works is each player shuffles their deck and draws 6 cards without looking and sets them face down on the left side of the table, these are called 'prize cards'. every time you knock out an opponent's pokemon, you draw a prize card, or if the opponent's pokemon in question is an ex, EX(yes they are different), GX, V, or BREAK pokemon, you draw 2. once all 6 are drawn, you win. there's also different types; grass, fire, water, electric, psychic, fighting, dark, steel, fairy, dragon, and normal. the only type advantage you need to know is that water types are weak to grass types.

so i'm like 8, in the middle of a game with this 20 year old guy, playing with one of my super imbalanced decks. somehow, i'd actually managed to knock out enough of his pokemon to have 2 prize cards remaining. he had 1. his attacking pokemon was a blastoise EX, a giant water type turtle pokemon, and my attacking pokemon was masquerin, a tiny grass type bug pokemon. i got INSANELY fucking lucky and i had a lot of item cards that allowed me to remove damage cards, so by slowly chipping away at this giant water tank turtle and healing before my pokemon was knocked out, i managed to knock out the blastoise, and WON. this guy who played competitively and had been making decks for longer than i'd been alive got beat by a tiny 8 year old with a pikachu plush and pikachu jacket, AND SAID 8 YEAR OLD BEAT HIM WITH A BUG. he said his ego was hurt and i still brag about it.

I drew a part 2 to my favorite Cookies

To be honest though, I just sort of went with whoever I think is neat, I don’t have like a set list of characters. Should probably do that

Anyways, so let’s get into this

Dark Enchantress Cookie: I think she’s a pretty neat villain. Originally I wasn’t expecting her to be old (I didn’t know who the villain was), but I like it. I dunno, maybe I just haven’t seen that many old ladies as villains? And her voice acting’s pretty good too. Also her voice actor, Patty McCormack, seems like a nice lady :)

But another thing I really like about her is (spoilers) the fact that she’s White Lily Cookie. And she’s not like possessed or turned evil by magic means, from what I can tell, the narrative is that she chose to go down this path. Yes she’s not exactly like White Lily Cookie, and her personality seems changed, but she still has all of White Lily Cookie’s memories, and from what I understand, her change to evil is supposed to be more like a negative response to trauma. She was still White Lily Cookie. She used to be a legendary hero, she used to be lifelong friends with the other Ancients, people we know and we know how deep their bond is. And that is just so interesting to me. And it’s like, I get where she’s coming from, I’ve seen her backstory, and how she got the way she did. And to be honest, her goal doesn’t seem that bad, it’s just the way she goes about it. I hope by the end of the story, she gets some form of happy or at least hopeful ending, whether it’s her changing her ways or even finding peace in death, and possibly getting reborn into a new form to live a better life. But I don’t think I want her to turn back into White Lily Cookie. That sort of invalidates Dark Enchantress Cookie and just makes her seem like just some evil form instead of her own person, which she is. I hear people call Dark Enchantress Cookie “the incarnation of evil”, and while maybe she is in Ovenbreak (I don’t know for sure), she’s clearly not in Kingdom. She’s a flawed, complex individual, just like everyone else

Gingerbrave: I know he isn’t popular, but I like him. I don’t get why he’s hated, other than the fact that he’s like, the most basic Cookie. But what’s wrong with that? Sometimes you need some simplicity. Though to be honest, when first seeing the trailers, I didn’t like him. He seemed like some overconfident dude (for the five seconds I saw him before I skipped the trailer) and I thought the whole game was about him. I wasn’t really aware of what a gacha game was (nor that Genshin Impact was one). Also I thought he was like, at least a teenager, somewhere between 15-20, I did not know he was a child. But once I actually started to play the game, he really grew on me, as he just seems so positive. He’s so willing to help people and do the right thing that I can’t help but like him. Yes maybe he’s a bit generic in that sense but I can’t help but see it as genuine. Funny enough this is exactly how I felt about KO from OK KO, back when that first aired, going through the same thoughts and ending up really liking him.

Also one thing I wanna bring up, but the fact that he knows why Cookies are made, but that he still sees the world in such a positive light is just really good. I know it’s not that big a deal for him since he’s know this from the start, this was the reality he’s always known so it’s not any sort of shock, but I can imagine a future scenario where the other characters find out the truth, and also that Gingerbrave knew the whole time, someone asks him how then he’s been so optimistic, how he’s able to keep a smile knowing the horrible truth, and he gives some sort of speech about how he sees things. I don’t give any specifics because I’m not sure what he��d say, but probably something along the lines of “we may have been created to be eaten, but that doesn’t mean that’s why we live” or something like that, I dunno. This’d probably be where he fully goes into his backstory to others. But yeah, I just like Gingerbrave

Gingerbright: Alright I suppose she’s the weakest contender here, as I really don’t know much about her, but like I said, I just think she’s neat. I like how she’s not just “the girl” of the group and has her own personality, and I like how she’s got a backbone and seems to be the responsible one of the group. She kind of gives me older sister vibes, despite the fact that she’s supposed to be younger than Gingerbrave. Also I like the fact that there’s no sort of romance going on between Ginegrbrave and Gingerbright, they’re just friends. That’s pretty common when you have a female version of a main character and I’m glad they didn’t do that. Actually, given that her description says she was made from the leftover dough from Gingerbrave, I personally like to think that makes her Gingerbrave’s younger sister

A shame she can’t be in Kingdom, but I mean I get it. You don’t really need two Gingerbraves (though I think she’d work fine as part of the crew, other than her turning the party from 5 to 6, one too many), and by this point, you can’t really add her into the game, as story wise it’d make no sense. Also she’d probably be a Common Cookie, and why would you add a new Common Cookie? But ah well. Wish she at least had a Cookie Trial in Ovenbreak

Anyways, those are just some of my thoughts. To be honest I quite like doing these as just a way to go in depth about these characters in general without talking about specific scenarios I’ve drawn or relationships with other characters, just the characters themselves and why I like them
