♔ ———–
I’m fine, I don’t need it.
Stubborn speech like that is expected and yet, the bones around jaw tighten at the sound. It must be because the words bring an air of familiarity; of the times he’s bled and waved away any offers of help. He’s definitely lost count of the dismissals he’s shot people’s way; knowing that Nakamura and Jae-Hwan might’ve experienced his rejection more than once. This thought leads the detective to wonder if the Black Knight has aiding hands on his side — other souls who have been as close (or closer) as he is right now, with the solid view of burnt edges and blood-stained garments.
Perhaps.
One man shows cannot last as such for too long.
I’ve dealt with worse.
Truth be told, one thing Hyuk has never internally questioned is the vigilante’s strength. Even if the stubborn detective is clueless about a past which seems to be tightly locked, he can tell the Black Knight was not born out of sweet clouds and innocence but out of dark ashes and a deeply rooted ache. He’s been through something, regardless of missed details and skipped clues; regardless of unanswered questions (because he caught that — the avoidance of inquiry when it comes to the watch he saw on their last encounter) and the need to stay silent. So this he does not doubt — the Black Knight having dealt with worse.
It doesn’t mean he has to endure this by himself, though. God, he almost wants to scoff at the irony. Hyuk pushes others away. Wants to be alone and hide in a corner to lick his own wounds in peace. Like an injured creature would. And yet, and yet — when the Black Knight tries to do the same, he refuses to leave. Funny how he can’t follow these steps when it comes to himself.
A harsh sigh takes place when the vigilante insists on shooting more of his acidic words Hyuk’s way, hands landing on his own hips with a defensive stance. It doesn’t help that the detective has a very short fuse (growing shorter for the past five years) and so, when the Black Knight dares to be noxious to prevent himself from dealing with Hyuk’s offer, he decides to throw a few daggers the other’s way.
They aren’t as sharp, though. Blades laced to those tinges of brusque care he tends to have.
“Just shut up for once. I couldn’t care less about what I might get out of it. Not everyone is going to help you for leverage or to benefit themselves, you idiot. You think I gain something by having you wander in my office whenever you please? For someone who’s been smart enough to stay in anonymity for so long, you can be foolishly thickheaded.”
Concern soon takes over when he witnesses the other struggling. Hyuk takes a few steps forward, yet doesn’t get too close as to not suddenly get pulled by the force of innate defense. One of his arms stretches, as if trying to reach out in case it gets worse; observant of the vigilante’s every move. This episode, indeed, goes against every word shared. About being fine. About not needing anything. The blood the Black Knight keeps leaving on his office is a testament of this; a red-colored cry of help.
He really isn’t doing well. What the hell got him into this condition?
As soon as the vigilante takes the seat, Hyuk gets to work before the other decides to back down from the impromptu motion. The detective disregards every glower and token of bitterness; opening the heavy first aid kit and getting out the tools he needs to clean the wound while the other undresses.
He hears the thud of clothes falling on the decayed floor, knowing that perhaps the Black Knight is going to need another shirt. It’s a good thing Hyuk practically spends most of his life in that office, having spare clothes in a drawer that maybe the vigilante could use — that if he doesn’t start with his usual acrimony.
Well, that’s a worry for later.
Saline solution is poured onto gauze pads to soak them, putting them in a small container to carry them close to where the vigilante is sitting down. When he finally breaks away from the business of preparation and actually looks up to direct his harsh gaze at the Black Knight, the glare ends up softening.
Not only does the Black Knight look…vulnerable under the office’s light, but luminescence is quite brutal when showing the whole map of scars traversing on his back and other parts of his body (he can see marks on his neck; his arms–). There’s the fresh one, deep and possibly throbbing; open and spilling crimson, but there are also other old injuries that have left their prominent mark; skin regenerating in the shape of raised patches begging to be seen. Not even the blood can hide them — actually, the color makes them more visible…at least, in the eyes of someone who’s very familiar with the difference between tones of hues and the gnarly vision of wounds.
Somehow this makes the vigilante more…real. More human. A reminder of mortality, of the battles carried. Some of these scars even look like burn marks. God, the notion of fire follows him everywhere. He hates it.
Hyuk takes a moment to collect his bearings, not sharing a word despite the curiosity tangled to his bones. Maybe this is one of the reasons the Black Knight covers himself all the way to his neck; uniqueness of scars would make him recognizable. But was it always like this? Are these scars the reason why his defenses are so high; the reason why he decided to take the mantle of the Black Knight? And who, or what, would be so merciless as to sear his skin like this?
Stop it, Lee Hyuk. You’re not supposed to care.
A deep breath is taken as hands get occupied with the container he left there earlier, grabbing one of the gauzes and carefully dabbing and wiping skin with it. The gauze quickly turns red, discarding that one and continuing with another. The process repeats itself until there’s just a very small amount of red trickling; Hyuk reaching out for bandages to catch the ongoing flow.
Pressing the bandages on the injured area, he applies pressure with his hands to try and make the bleeding stop; some of his fingers accidentally colliding with some of the scars that happen to be on the way.
“You’re going to need stitches. The cut’s too deep to just treat it with bandages. I…made the bleeding stop a little, but if you’re going to keep doing stunts, then this needs to be closed as soon as possible. I can stitch you up, too.”
It’s something he, unfortunately, had to learn. He can’t afford going to hospitals whenever his recklessness kicks in.
“I’ll do that. Here,”
a hand instinctively reaches out to take the vigilante’s gloved one (he’ll ignore the sudden tremor rising up his spine), guiding it the best way he can to his injured back so he can press the bandages. The pressure won’t be the same due to the hand’s awkward position, but it’ll be enough.
“Keep it there while I get the suture set.”
It’s inside the first aid kit, but he has to move away for a moment to grab it.
“Don’t you dare move or you’ll end up with two wounds, not one. This one and another coming from my fist.”
———– ♔
He’s heard this lecture before, the ‘stop-acting-like-you’re-fine-and-let-me-help-you’ one. He could even list all the variations he’s had the displeasure of sitting through, whether it’s the one laced with concern ( Nell ), the one stoic and threatening in demeanor ( Alfred ), or even the one barely able to hold back its anger ( Taiyang ).
Hyuk’s, acidic and yet also somehow exasperated as if he’s seen the Black Knight do it all and then twice, should be no different. And yet.
“That’s rich, coming from someone who doesn’t listen to anyone’s suggestions.“
Something about this iteration hits DIFFERENTLY. Crawls under his skin. Whereas with the others, it’s merely a matter of putting up a wall to bounce their concerns off of, this one…this one bruises. Cuts even, like the ones seared into his back.
( The thing with relationships, Patrick doesn’t realize, is that they’re two-way streets. Even if Hyuk doesn’t know the Black Knight’s true identity, for all the times Myungdae has intentionally pushed the detective’s buttons, Hyuk does the same. Pawn and Rook both have noted on it-
“You’re scared of him.” Nell observed once. “You lose your cool when you’re around him.”
“Well that would explain why we having to order the smoke bombs en masse.” Alfred added.
Alfred got socked in the jaw after that. They were sparring. )
Patrick crosses his arms, jaw clenched as he balances himself on the stool provided. His head keeps on spinning, but not even vertigo can keep the frustration and sheer ANNOYANCE that this situation ( which is, in hindsight, his doing considering that he picked Hyuk’s office of all places to try and calm himself ) has brought about.
“Knob.”
And yet he’s still sitting here with his wounds uncovered for Hyuk to treat. Perhaps it is immature on his part too, resorting to schoolboy tactics to vent his frustrations, Twitching at the sound of a solution being poured into what he assumes to be a cloth, he can’t help but dig his fingers into his knees in dread for the next part- when the saline solution is supposed to make contact with his back.
He shifts in his seat, peeking behind him. What is taking Hyuk so long to- he stiffens. Oh.
There’s a look of concern and…painful tenderness on his face. It’s a look Patrick hasn’t seen his dear friend wear in…well ever since the Black Knight started making house calls. Maybe Hyuk would’ve given Patrick that look five years ago. Maybe he still would.
“Are you done looking?” Patrick looks away, fighting the urge to pick up his bloodied shirt and cover them up. The scars. Would Hyuk look at him the same way if he knew the TRUTH behind them?
( So many of them were the result of inflicting pain on others. Unwillingly. Willingly. In self-defense. To save his own skin. )
He squeezes closes his eyes. “I didn’t come here for a pity party.”
The saline solution hits his skin and he bites the inside of his cheek, choking down the wince. He should be used to this, the BURNING that comes with treating open wounds. It cleanses and purifies the body in a catharsis- for wounds to heal, they have to hurt first. First, pain, and then, relief.
Doesn’t mean he has to enjoy it.
( There’s a reason, back in the Black Knight’s base, that patching up wounds is a…two-person job, rather than one. One to actually treat the wounds. The other to hold his hand. It’s childish, he knows. )
Suddenly winded when the burning finally dies down, he tenses as Hyuk’s fingers brush over his back ( funny how much a difference removing blood can make), even the parts with raised skin. Patrick always tries to avoid touching those if possible- they’re just another unwanted reminder. But contrary to most cases, the detective’s fingers don’t feel like intrusions. If anything, they’re…craved, if not even yearned forr, however much of an accident the contact is supposed to be.
It's a dangerous feeling, Patrick tells himself. He needs to stop. He needs a distraction- which is exactly what he gets, even if it is of the bad kind.
“…You’re not going to let me say no, are you?” He already knows the answer to that. The anticipation for the burning pain returns, and it’s even worse now. Sutures- his least favorite type of treatment. If not for the idea of another sharp object piercing his skin, then for the fact the needles need to be cauterized before sinking into flesh.
In other words, a flame is needed.
( The first time Patrick needed sutures, it took Nell and Alfred an hour to get him to sit down. )
His breath hitches, heartbeat picking up as the edge of his vision blurs, unwanted adrenaline taking the place of clarity. His fight-or-flight mode is moments away from kicking in in spite of his body’s protests. Patrick needs this, he knows- Hyuk knows it too: if the Black Knight is going to made another appearance, the stitches are going to keep him from bleeding out.
Did Hyuk notice then? Is that why he grabs Patrick’s gloved hand ( to which of course, Patrick’s stupid first instinct is to squeeze his dear friend’s hand- Patrick manages to restrain himself, thankfully )? Or maybe that’s just Hyuk being painfully practical- that’s what the detective has always been: reckless, yes, but surviving, always, even by the skin of his teeth. And survival always requires a degree of practicality.
For once though, the Black Knight doesn’t have a comeback to Hyuk’s threat. Or maybe Patrick is too busy trying to decipher why he wants Hyuk’s fingers brushing against his own again. Or maybe it’s just the sheer exhaustion from everything that makes him simply huff in disapproval.
“I’ll stab you if you try that.” Or maybe there is still some fight left in him; it’s said half-heartedly though. “Just…make it quick.”
The needle sinks and while the initial prick isn’t nearly as terrible as he expected ( it never is ), Patrick still squeezes his eyes shut. For all the times, he’s welcomed silence, it’s just oppressive here. For a moment, Patrick almost misses his dear friend’s pointed jabs. He swallows the lump in his throat- he can’t keep sitting like this.
“You…you have QUESTIONS, don’t you?”
A statement, not a question, here.

Disruptions of Ritual and Inciting Incidents
I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a creative development series lately which has come with a lot of great advice and guidance on storytelling, from the extremely specific to the really broad and sweeping. It’s covered everything from character motivations to specific genre structures to audience expectation to interpersonal conflict, but one of the things that has come up over and over again has been the idea of disruption of ritual as pivotal to the establishment of a story.
It’s been interesting to hear it articulated this way, because when I’ve taught creative writing in the past, and when I’ve thought about my own writing, I’ve always talked about this concept as the world we leave behind. It’s the pre-inciting incident stuff – the introductory grounding stuff – whether that be Harry’s life before Hogwarts, or the Bennet’s home before Mr. Bingley moves in next door.
You establish a world – or a ritual – and then you break it open.
It’s in the schism, in the disruption, where your story finds it’s legs and starts to move.
It’s had me thinking a lot about the relationship between the disruption of ritual and the inciting incident of a story, because in a lot of ways, that disruption of ritual directly sets up the latter. A story like Bridgerton has the disruption of ritual in Phoebe making her debut – a change for the whole family – but the inciting incident is really her collision with Simon Hastings and their mutual decision to fake a courtship. Similarly (but differently), Harry Potter has the disruption of ritual when the owls start descending on the Dursley home in the lead up to Harry’s birthday, but the true inciting incident is when Hagrid tells Harry he’s a wizard. Neither of these inciting incidents could’ve happened without the disruption to the character’s lives that got us there.
When we talk about inciting incidents, we’re ultimately talking about the point of no return for your protagonist. Where they either make a choice, or have a choice thrust upon them, it’s one they can never go back from.
How the disruption of ritual lays the groundwork for the inciting incident though is important. It’s not just creating the first bubbles of conflict to pop, but it’s a key part of establishing who your character is and what world they exist in.
But what does that look like? Generally speaking, I find it’s useful to think of this sort of pre-inciting incident (or disruption of ritual world) in three categories:
Change of Circumstance
Change of Environment
Change of Information
So let’s break that down a little!
Change of Circumstance
I think this one is probably the most common.
I’ve watched a lot of new movies lately and I think change of circumstance is at the heart of all of them – in Nomadland, Fern’s husband has passed away and she’s had to move into a caravan out of financial necessity; in The Father, Anthony’s daughter is moving to Italy and so she tells him he’s being moved into an aged care facility for his dementia; in Those Who Wish Me Dead, Hannah, a firefighter, has been benched after freezing during a fire which lead to the death of two teenage boys.
While all these changes are environmental too (which I’ll come back to in a second), they’re more punctuated by the impact these circumstances have on these characters – Fern is grieving, Anthony is losing his agency and independence, Hannah’s role in a job she loves has been diminished.
These changes to circumstance create the context for which the inciting incidents begin and ground the characters within their own emotional arcs. The inciting incident in Those Who Wish Me Dead is when Hannah finds another teenage boy in the woods who’s being chased by assassins; in The Father, the inciting incident comes when Anthony’s daughter hires a new nurse that reminds him of his other, dead daughter, in Nomadland, Fern connects with a seasonal worker at an Amazon factory who in turn connects her to the nomad lifestyle.
In this sense, the disruption of ritual starts a conversation that the inciting incident can either build off or interrupt or both. The examples above are all pretty big, but these sorts of circumstantial disruptions can be anything. They can be as simple as a promotion at work, a pregnancy, a new neighbour; or hell, you can go the other way, and get even bigger – start a war, go on the run, discover a new planet! What’s important though is that initial change of circumstance creates context for your protagonist and builds towards your inciting incident.
Change of Environment
This one is still pretty common, but I’d say it’s often used most efficiently and effectively in horror and fantasy.
Moving house or exploring new territory, whether that be campsites or cave dives or new planets or planes, is a natural way of putting your characters off-kilter and building environmental tension. This tension is really steeped in the unknown of the space your protagonist is interacting with, and in the promise of conflict within it. Movies like The Descent, Hush, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are all fundamentally steeped in their opening acts involving drastic shifts to their environments that build conflict, whether that be because an environment becomes something to protect (Hobbiton in Lord of the Rings), or something that the protagonist needs to be protected from (The Descent), or that environment being invaded (Hush) are all factors that are essential to the story overall.
In these stories, these environments aren’t just a stage for the character to move across, they’re deeply interactive and often allegorical to the character’s circumstances.
My Neighbor Totoro is one of my favourite examples of this – Satsuki and Mei’s move to a new home whisks them into a magical world with soot spirits and forest creatures, but these spirits and creatures are an escape from the reality that they moved because their mother is sick in a hospital nearby. The environment they’ve moved to is them clinging to a child’s world as they live ever closer to their trauma.
The most important thing to think about with environmental change is to ask why? Environmental change isn’t about simply presenting a stage for your characters – all stories have that – but that that environment be a motivator in your character’s overall arc. After all, Nomadland might deeply love the American landscape, but Fern’s story is driven by circumstance, not environment, as I mentioned above.
Change of Information
Probably the least used of these three, an information disruption is often reserved for stories about whistleblowers or journalists. Spotlight, Bombshell, All the President’s Men, hell, even The Bourne Identity all rely on a transfer of knowledge as pivotal to creating the conflict that the story builds on.
Change of Information involves a character learning something that they didn’t know before, and the information could seem incidental in the first act (the journalist in Citizen Kane for instance learning that Kane’s final word was ‘rosebud’, or Adrian Toomes realizing there’s alien tech in what he’s been assigned to clean up in Spiderman: Homecoming), or it could be left as a landmine for our protagonists to discover (Spotlight did this by opening with the cops in the 1970s talking about the child molestation charge that our protagonists would start investigating in 2001), or be the overall driver for the film (Min-hyuk telling Ki-woo about the Park family in Parasite).
I think Change of Information set-ups though can also be broadened out to tie pretty closely with Change of Circumstances set-ups to the point that I actually almost considered condensing the two, but I do think they’re different enough to be untangled. Parasite of course straddles all three in its brilliance as the information Min-hyuk gives Ki-woo of the Park family creates both a change in circumstance and environment too, and Midsommar is a movie I’d consider to be all three too – knowledge changing hands is essential to that film overall, and the focus in the first act of Dani finding out that her sister’s commit suicide is pivotal to everything that follows. Her change of circumstances and environment hinges on her grieving her sister, yes, but the weight of the opening act is on the discovery of that more so than it is on Dani’s circumstances changing. Life goes on is, in many ways, pivotal to that first act.
Change of information, to me, is about a character’s awareness of something creating that initial disruption overall, and that new knowledge being the ultimate plot and character driver for the rest of the story. It’s the new knowledge or awareness that creates story mobility, environment and circumstance can just come along with it.
What are you talking about, Sophie?
Right, sorry, haha.
Disruption of ritual is ultimately the shift in the story that allows for the inciting incident to happen. It’s what creates the perfect storm of circumstance, environment and information which fuels your characters, but what you choose to prioritise and emphasise is going to impact the direction of your story and provide your readers or audience with the context that shapes their experience overall.
What drives your characters is what determines their path throughout the story you’re telling, and considering circumstances, environment, and the information they do or don’t possess is an important part of shaping that. You don’t have to pick one, of course – as I mentioned above, a lot of great stories embrace two or all three! – but thinking about each and asking yourself why and working out what’s the priority for your protagonist might just help you articulate the crux of your story and give you an opening act that resonates.

A/N: Again thank you guys for being patient with me <3, I’ll try to be better about updating this lol. I did in fact finish this chapter during a four hour road trip lol. Also i’d just like to put this out there, fight scenes are hard to write. I am not any good at them ^^;; this was my best attempt lol.
Chapter List: Chapter 1/Chapter 2/Chapter 3/Chapter 4/Chapter 5/Chapter 6/Chapter 7/Chapter 8/Chapter 9/Chapter 10/Chapter 11/Chapter 12/Chapter 13/Chapter 14
If you were being honest, you couldn't remember the last time you had slept so well. So you were pretty peeved to wake up to the sounds of snickering and a the sound of a camera shutter.
"Dude I told you to turn off the sound, they're gonna wake up." You heard a hushed whisper fill the silence of the room, followed by more soft snickering.
"It's fine, we came to wake them up anyway. It's their own fault that we caught them all cuddly." That voice you distinctly recognized as Mingyu, and you were almost certain that the other voice belonged to Vernon. A light sense of irritation swelled in your chest. Almost on instinct you began to pull away from Wonwoo, only for the arm around your waist to pull you closer.
"Do you think if we stay quiet they'll go away?" he muttered, his voice so soft and laced with husky sound that had been lacking this morning. Which made you curious how long he had been awake before you had woken up. You were more than a little embarrassed to be caught like this. Soft moments like this definitely weren’t something you were used to letting others see.
"I doubt it, they're annoying," you retorted, loud enough for your guests to hear. Which earned a irritated exclamation of denial from Mingyu, and a laugh from Vernon. "Besides, we need to get up. We have to get set up for tonight." Despite saying this, you didn't bother moving, after all that would mean you would have to move his arm from you...and you weren't quite ready for that yet. The feeling of his arm around your waist made you feel warm, in fact his whole presence did as well. You had honestly forgotten how wonderful it felt to feel warm. It hadn’t really bothered you before, you had gotten used to not retaining any kind of warmth, so feeling this even if it would only be for a little while, it was...a nice reprieve.
Sadly, Wonwoo agreed with your statement far too quickly for your liking, and pulled his arm away so that he could stretch out. Which caused you to unconsciously grumble out of irritation at the lack of contact.
"You guys are so gross." Vernon complained, while Mingyu fake gagged next to him.
Rolling your eyes, you sat up and followed Wonwoo’s lead. Stretching a bit to work the muscles that had gotten stiff from sleep. “I mean, you two were the ones who interrupted us. So this is on you.”
"Ugh, we were told to wake you up.” Mingyu began, thankfully done with his ridiculous display of disgust. “Your vampire friends came back with your leader guy, so whenever you two are done...being gross."
"We'll be down there in a bit." Wonwoo yawned out the words, just wanting to just get the males out of the room, which worked. They gave a few more teasing looks of disgust before leaving together, taking their future black mail materiel with them. You'd have to steal his phone and delete those photos before Hyunjin saw them. You did not need that boy taunting you about this, especially since he wasn't exactly aware of what was going on between Wonwoo and yourself. Hell, you weren't exactly sure what you wanted to call this either, but that was a thought for another day. Right now, you needed to be focused, if any of you were off tonight then that could mess up the whole plan and put Minah in even more danger.
As the boys left the room, you felt Wonwoo’s hand reach out and lightly grip your shoulder. Turning to face him, you couldn’t exactly describe the look on his face. It looks like a cross between comforting and admiration but you couldn’t be sure. All you knew was that it brought that previous warmth and placed it inside your chest, as opposed to being something physical you felt. You honestly weren’t sure how he managed to do this, if you didn’t know any better you would think he was a witch. But it was common knowledge that Wolves couldn’t produce magic.
“Don’t worry so much.”
“How do you know I’m worried?” Seriously, magic. It was almost ridiculous how well he could read you.
A soft laugh left his lips and shook his head. “You’re not as straight faced as you think you are.”
With a small grumble of irritation, you pushed his hand off of your shoulder with a small pout on your lips. This prompted another laugh from the male as he watched you quickly leave the room.
***
As soon as you entered the living room, you were taken back by how noisy the room was. It seemed like everyone who was involved tonight had arrived. You were also pretty surprised to see that those gathered hadn’t separated themselves by species. Maybe things would change after all this was over. As your eyes scaned the room, you noticed that the only one missing was Minghao. Which caused a bit of anxiety to swirl in your gut, but you didn’t have time to think about it as you heard the loud voice of Soonyoung greet you.
"My baby bat!" he exclaimed, rushing over to pull you into a crushing hug. This was always how it was when you saw him again after one of his long trips. You honestly couldn't even remember how long it had been since you had seen, or hell even heard from him. You were also pretty grateful that he wasn’t yelling at you again, that was something you really hoped didn’t happen again soon.
"What did I tell you about calling me that, Hamster man." You groaned, returning the embrace. Despite your hatred of the nickname, you knew it came from a place of love. He was the only reason you were still here, and you owed him a lot but you would never admit that out loud to him.
"I'm not a hamster! I'm a tiger!!" Obviously offended at your title, and pulled away much quicker than he normally would. You heard the familiar laugh of Kevin ring out through the room, calling out that Soonyoung was definitely more like a hamster than a Tiger. It was an ongoing 'fight' in the coven, everyone would tease him about being a hamster and he would always argue back that he was a tiger. Personally, all you were sure of was that he was a furry.
You heard a throat clear, and your eyes met with Seungcheol. A serious look on his face which cleared the air of any previous humor. A hush seemed to fall over the room and all eyes were on the three of you, waiting for Seungcheol to speak.
"It's about 5, sundown should be starting soon. We should probably leave in our smaller groups and not all at once." He advised, crossing his arms over his chest as he continued. “We should probably send out the fourth grouping first.”
He was absolutely right, it would take them a bit longer to get to their position while remaining inconspicuous. The only problem was that you still weren’t sure where Minghao was. So you nodded to show your agreement, but turned your attention to Soonyoung.
“I’d feel more comfortable sending people out if I knew where Minghao was.” Sure he a part of the first group, so he would leave last but it was still a small concern. His group was already one of the smaller ones, consisting of only himself, Wonwoo and Minhyuk.
“What, you think I can’t handle the group with the little wolf boy?” Speaking of Minhyuk, he called out with a grin on his face. Which definitely didn’t fit the mood of the room, but that was just how Minhyuk was.
“I don’t think you could handle a paper bag, Hyuk.” You retorted, and the male laughed at your joking nature. You didn’t...hate Minhyuk but he was definitely a lot to deal with at times. You decided to ignore his comment about Wonwoo, but found your eyes straying to him. To your surprise you felt...worried, if there were only two members in that team it would be easier for them to be overpowered. They would be more likely to get hurt.
You heard a small snort from Hyunjin, who had decided to stick by Kevin. Soonyoung also couldn’t seem to stop himself from chuckling at your antics with the eldest Vampire, before he returned to the situation at hand.
"He decided to stay back with Minah. He said it would be better to have someone trailing her from a distance." It wasn’t a bad idea but it definitely left the teams severely unbalanced now. You also wished that he would have told you about it before hand.
Taking a moment to think about the rest of the other team compositions, you let out a small sigh. The best option would be to send either Soonyoung or Vernon. Since Minghao had decided to change the plan on his own, you'd have to bitch about that to him later when everything is done. Ruined a perfectly good plan.
"Soonie, you're gonna go with team one now, you can blame Hao later,”
"Since when were you calling the shots?" Honestly, it was a pretty damn good question since leadership wasn’t exactly your specialty, but the cheeky grin on his face made you a little bit irritated. You knew he wasn’t questioning your decision but that he wanted to give one last jab to you before everything went down. A very Soonyoung move.
"Since you decided that vanishing acts would be your secret skill."
***
The alley way was dark, and cold. The snow was coming down quickly tonight, making visibility a bit lower than you would have liked. Taking a look at your team, you were outnumbered one vampire to three wolves, but you knew you could trust them. Or...at least you hoped. They wanted this to end so you would have to hope that they would watch your back.
“Anything yet?” You questioned, phone in hand as you waited for a response from the first team. It had been decided that each team would have one of the Wolves keep watch, since even in their human forms their sight was definitely better than a Vampires. Being the technical leader of the second group you were trying to keep your hands on all part of the stake out. At the end of the alley was Vernon, his eyes peeled as he watched for Minah to travel down your designated stretch of road. Yubin stood closest to him, crouched and ready to run out at a seconds notice. You were standing closest to Hyunwoo, who while obviously tensed, definitely seemed more relaxed than the rest of you
"Nothing yet," he confessed, eyes not leaving the street as he answered. “Not even stragglers from the bars. It’s just...empty.” It was...definitely strange. It was as if the world could tell that something was off tonight. You attention was then taken by the silent vibrations of your phone going off. Glancing over the message you then relayed it to the rest of your team.
"Minghao says he hasn’t seen anything yet. No one has even approached her." That didn’t make you feel any better, a small sense of dread was pooling in your gut as your phone buzzed once more. Backing out you went to check the other message.
"Soonyoung said that she just passed them, but it’s basically just what Minghao reported. There was no one near her, Wonwoo couldn’t even see Mingao following her." You heard a small noise of amazement from the younger male, obviously not used to hearing about Minghao’s skills. You were about to make a mention of that being a regular occurrence when you noticed Vernon lift his index finger to his lips. The action being followed by the familiar sound of footsteps in the snow.
The air around your group grew still, yet almost painfully loud. You forced your ears to focus on the steps you had heard instead of the rapid beating of hearts that belonged to the wolves. They were far too loud and were definitely setting your nerves on edge.
It felt like forever as you waited, eyes never leaving Vernon as you clutched your phone in your hand. Your messenger was opened and you were ready to send a report to Kevin, just in case something happened in your area they would need to know instantly.
As the footsteps grew closer, you could see Minah for a brief moment through as she passed by the alleyway where you were hiding. Thankfully, she was unaware of where everyone was stationed so she wouldn’t accidentally give away your position.
The plan had been for her to appear to be heading home, make her seem more vulnerable. It had been a perfect plan, but so far was yielding no results. Your eyes trained to her form as a small sneeze escaped her, she quickly rubbed a gloved hand against her nose to try warming it up even if just slightly.
You waited with bated breath for her to exit safely from your area, listening intently for Vernon’s queue for you to send the message to the next team. After what felt like an eternity, Vernon’s posture dropped and his eyes finally left the street. He turned back to the group and shrugged a bit.
A part of your was grateful that nothing had happened but the other part was still tense with anxiety. Quickly typing and sending your report to Kevin, you glanced back up at Yubin and Hyunwoo.
“I want you two,” you gestured to the fastest and strongest members of your team “to head to the fourth group and be prepared to help them out when you get there. Vernon and I are gonna check in on the third group. Make sure you keep as hidden as you can, we don’t need the stray catching on if he does see you.”
At your words, Hyunwoo and Yubin nodded and both dashed to the other end of the alley way, taking a sharp left in the direction of the last grouping of members. It was definitely strange being the leader, it was not a job that you ever wanted again. You'd have to ask Junhui how the hell he did this all the time. It was exhausting, and stressful to be in charge of others.
As the two finished their reports to the other groups, you began the trek towards the fourth group, Vernon following close by you as you kept to the alleyways as much as you could. Doing your best to keep as inconspicuous as possible. This street didn’t seem as deserted as the one Minah had been walking down, lingering species from all walks seemed to be wandering down the sidewalk. This caused that small lingering dread to grow as you picked up the pace, taking quicker steps towards your destination. Feeling the familiar vibrations of your phone. Your heart dropped into your stomach as you read the message from Kevin.
“Fuck, they’ve got her! ”
***
Wonwoo felt his heart beating rapidly against his chest as he dashed around the corner, following the perp and Minah, alongside Jacob and the female Vampire who he believed was named Gahyeon. Despite her small stature she was quite quick and was a good head in front of the two wolves. It made sense to him now why you had been so adamant about her being one of the powerhouses of the Coven, but that was a thought for another time.
He had just made it to the third grouping when Minah had been ambushed. From what Jacob had said while they were running, there had been only one assailant, he hadn’t been able to catch any distinct features but he had seen the man grab Minah and drag her into an alley just a bit away from where the third group had been stationed. Just like you had anticipated, he would have to commend you on that later. Once this was settled.
To his surprise, not only was the assailant in the alley but so was another male. For a moment he was worried that you had been right about their numbers as well, but that worry was quelled as Gahyeon rushed to the second male’s side. He could only assume that this was Minghao and hope for the best.
“If you let her go then things will go a lot better for you.” Minghao (?) declared, his posture seemed almost too relaxed, but Wonwoo noticed that his eyes never once left Minah’s trembling frame. The captured female looked terrified, her hands gripped tightly against her captor’s arms that had wrapped themselves around her body. He didn’t bother to try and hold her hands back, knowing that there would be no way that a simple human could over power a vampire. It was sad but true, and it seemed like Minah had also realized this.
The unfamiliar vampire rolled his eyes, one arm seemed to tighten around her waist while the other reached up and grasped her throat. He forcefully jerked her head to the side, not hard enough to kill her but just enough to make her uncomfortable. Wonwoo could see tears begin to spill from the young woman’s eyes, too scared to even attempt fighting back. This action seemed to set Minghao off, his seemingly casual posture dropped as he took a threatening step forward. The rest of the group following his lead, only to be stopped as the Stray let out a soft chuckle.
“You know, if you get any closer I could easily snap her neck. Dead or alive, I’m still getting fed, and her blood just smells...wonderful.” He said, making a large show of burying his nose into Minah’s neck. A small terrified whimper left the young woman, her eyes clenching shut. The tension in the air could practically be cut with a knife. “Is this little human worth all this fuss? Surely Soonyoung has better things to do than deal with, little old me?”
Minghao didn’t dignify him with an answer, simply staring him down but refusing to move as long as Minah was directly in danger. It seemed as if time had stopped, completely frozen inside the cold winter’s night.
As quickly as time froze it seemed to restart again, almost as if someone had hit the play button on a tv remote. The Stray’s head was roughly pulled back, the surprise of the attack threw him off and caused him to release Minah. Before she could hit the ground, Minghao had rushed forward to grab her.
Everything seemed to move so fast, Wonwoo hadn’t seen who had attacked the Stray but as soon as Minah was secured he felt his body move forward on pure instinct. Heart throbbing in his chest as he aimed a punch towards the Stray’s head, which he dodged by just a hair, only for him to be tackled by the small frame of Gahyeon. They rolled for a moment and it looked like she had the upper hand, until a shot rang out, followed by a growl of pain from the woman. She recoiled, jumping off of the stray and looking around wilding for where the shot came from.
Just as there had once been more of them than the stray, now the small group was surrounded by people from all walks of life as they waited for their backup. From the brief glance, Wonwoo could see a plethora of Fae, wolves, vampires, and even a human. They were outnumbered 8 to 5, with a disadvantage because Minghao was attempting to protect Minah as well as fight. It didn’t look good.
Wonwoo tried to keep his eyes out for his teammates as he fended off a summer fae, small flecks of fire sparked off of her hands anytime she got close, in hopes of burning the wolf. She didn’t pack as much of a punch as he was expecting, but she was quick and practically running circles around him. It made it harder for him to land a punch much less catch the Fae woman. She was careless though, leaving holes in her defense which Wonwoo was more than happy to take advantage of. At his neck chance, his hand shot out and quickly gripped her neck and slammed her smaller frame into the wall of the alleyway. Vaguely he heard the shout of an unfamiliar name, once again followed by a gunshot.
A gunshot that he felt. Another growl of pain rang through the air, except this time from him. The pain was enough for him to drop the Fae woman in shock.
Trying to keep himself on his feet as the Fae began a fresh assault on him, his mind enveloped in the pain of the bullet wound. Which was honestly hurting a lot more than he thought it should. For a split second he wondered if the bullet had been a silver one, but the thought was ripped from his mind as the woman took advantage of his distraction, grabbing his face and soon all he could feel was fire.

Hey, thanks for this blog! I see you post about the japan remake recently. I don't watch it yet, is it worth watching? How about Mo Tae Gu? Kim Jae Wook set a high bar so I don't want to disappointed with his japan counterpart if I watched it..
Yo! Thanks for stopping by. Of course, I have to keep making this blog active with content [laughs]. And right after season 03 is over, we’re lucky that Japan airs the remake of season 01 just in two weeks. As for your question, I plan to write a review after the series is over. The last episode will be aired on Sep 21.
But for short, I can say it’s worth watching. Well, the remake version of Kang Kwonjoo isn’t satisfying but It has much better, better storytelling than the original has. Jdrama always has the strength of story-wise better while K-drama tends to focus on conflict and sometimes makes the story draggy, and it happened too with Voice. I still remember I did grumble of some aspects in the original haha. But before you decide to watch it, I hope you don’t have the same standard because both Jdrama and Kdrama is naturally different in values. J-drama values more in a down-to-earth/realistic approach to visualize while K-drama tends to make beautiful cinematography with a higher budget. For example, the death of Hwang Kyungil and Nam Sangtae in the remake is more realistic for forensic points to camouflage it as suicide (so I don’t feel the cops are very stupid), the murder of Madam Jang (replaced with Inspector Okihara, equivalent with Inspector Jang character) also more make sense there that you can’t imagine how the culprit in the original did it all in short time and even carried the body outside from 2nd floor to his car on park area without being noticed by anyone; but you feel more chill and horror in the original when you saw a body is burned down, a room full of blood with eyeball taken out, and a body hanging on the tree right when you open the curtain. Same with the villain’s basement; the remake makes it dark, dull and dusty as what basement is used to be while the original made it bright so we could see the red blood stained clearly everywhere.
This “realistic” vs “beautiful” also applies to their drama characters. I can say Korean people shown on TV dramas are better-looking than Japanese ones. I believe it’s a major influence on how Mo Taegu becomes the most stunning villain in Kdrama history. The beauty shots accommodate the perfect combination of the villain’s elegance character and the actor’s handsomeness despite the brutal murders and the amazing acting ability to be a psychopath. Probably those are the 15-30 extra minutes of visualization that the remake does not have (despite the fact of J-drama always having shorter episodes). But it doesn’t mean the remake version of Mo Taegu, Hongo Shizuku, is more lacking in his character. They rewrite their own version while still keep some aspects from the original as follows:
Mo Family runs a public transport company, Hongo Family runs a construction/civil engineering holdings.
While an image of Taegu having the ability to play grand piano as he loves classical music is only mentioned in Kim Jae Wook’s interview, the remake realizes it.
Shizuku is more independent than Taegu when playing a “game”, there’s no his dad’s secretary helping him to flee after he killed Hikari’s (Kwonjoo) dad and to abduct Toru (Daeshik), it hints he takes or abducted them all by himself before killing them in his basement. He also ordered Toru, all by himself and save his contact.
Taegu collects a suitcase of the victim’s hairs still on the bloody scalp (but then, I imagine his random victims on street are women because the hairs he collects are long), Shizuku collects a glass shelf of blood-stained kettlebells. In both of their collection, the name of our hero and heroine are written as he plans to murder them later.
The remake doesn’t include the demon aesthetic that Taegu sometimes underlined his murder as the words of God by citing a bible chapter written on the victim’s blood. Taegu also used other weapons to kill Sangtae (rope and knife). And there’s also a narration that he loves mutilating a body, too (implicit said by Sangtae that Taegu killed his dad that way, explicit when it was shown Taegu keeps the old lady‘s tongue and when Kwonjoo found Madam Jang’s crime scene). However, Shizuku is more consistent in his actions, he left the body in one piece and only collects the kettlebells he just used, whoever his victim is.
Point 4 and 5 make me conclude that the original built Taegu like the star in a slasher/cult horror movie, it was so random (I’m sure even the genius Spencer Reid from FBI Behavourial Analysis Unit in CBS Criminal Minds series would hardly find the connection LOL) while the remake designs Shizuku more like a common serial killer with specific behavior as a crime/procedural series always use to be.
Now, as Kim Jaewook set a high bar, there’s no other counterpart to play the same character who represents the coexist of beauty and madness better than Iseya Yusuke. Both of them starts their career as a fashion model in catwalk and magazine when they were studying. Their physical appearance, their lean body structure and height, and their sexiness/attractiveness are very alike. You even almost can’t differentiate Hongo Shizuku with Mo Taegu when you see them in suit from their back. Well, Iseya Yusuke is as old as Jang Hyuk (born in 1976), so he might be not as handsome as Kim Jaewook in fangirls’ taste. But for acting ability, he’s still the perfect cast balancing Kim Jaewook for these reasons:
Both of them are graduated from the University of Arts. Kim Jaewook is from Seoul Institute of Arts, major in music. Iseya Yusuke is from Tokyo Institute of Arts, major in design. Tho’, Iseya Yusuke achieves his Master’s Degree and exchange program at New York University (major in film).
With that background, both of them aren’t just an actor, but more an artist. Kim Jaewook has a rock band and also plays in theatre as a foreign musician biopic, Iseya Yusuke directed a few movies that were invited to the international film festivals.
Both of them are hardly known popular as TV drama star despite their talents. Kim Jaewook loves indie projects and took supporting role/second lead role in some TV dramas, it took 17 years after his debut that he finally pick a lead male role in popular TV drama genre, rom-com (Her Private Life, 2019). Iseya Yusuke is known better as a movie star, he also took various roles in historical dramas in public channel, it took 19 years after his debut that he finally plays for a commercial broadcast in a TV drama (Prison Princesses, 2017) more in comedic role.
Both ever performed in Korea-Japan collaboration movie. Kim Jaewook in Butterfly Sleep (2017) with Miho Nakayama, directed by Jeong Jaeun. Iseya Yusuke in The Tenor Lirico Spinto (2012) with Yoo Jitae, directed by Kim Sangman.
Both of them ever acted to make a passionate gay kiss scene in the movie. Kim Jaewook in Antique (2008) with Andy Gillet. Iseya Yusuke in Tonde Saitama (2019) with Gackt.
Nah, Idk whether this is the script one that wrote Hongo Shizuku like this below or that’s Iseya Yusuke himself who interprets his character differently from Kim Jaewook:
Remember the scene in the basement that Taegu could hear the sound of the people he murdered? Taegu felt haunted while Shizuku enjoyed it that he even made a gesture of an orchestra conductor conducting their haunting voice. And when his mother’s voice is echoing, yelling at him to not witness that his dad killed someone in the basement; Taegu felt like the trauma strikes him while Shizuku is bothered at first, but then he smiles and waves at her.
So… I think the original shows that Taegu still has a human side and weak point (although his murder methods are the most brutal among three VOICE’s villains) while the remake is like telling us that Shizuku’s madness level is at Kaneki’s level.

Exit Rant??: The Last Empress
[Some minor spoilers throughout.]
I have a truly baffling oddity of a show to review today, and I would be lying if I said I knew exactly how to approach it. I've watched makjang dramas before, I thought I had a basic idea of what I was getting myself into. I even watched Baker King Kim Tak Gu with relative equanimity and came out of it astonishingly satisfied. I thought to myself there was absolutely no earthly way a popular drama was going to top that in terms of absurdity. Well...I stand corrected.
By pretty much all standards of quality The Last Empress is a bona fide train wreck. A train wreck I found myself unable to tear my eyes away from, despite all good sense and my best intensions. My initial expectation going in was for TLE to be grown up Goong. That turned out to be maybe 10% accurate, in the sense that this is also an alternate universe where South Korea has a constitutional monarchy and a spunky commoner is suddenly thrust into palace life when they marry into the royal family. That's about where the similarities stop.
I'll just come right out and say it: this is one of those "it's so bad, it's awesome" situations. I cannot unironically recommend this show to you. If I'm being honest, I probably would have dropped TLE early on if I wasn't watching it with my friend, @agaggleoffandoms. This show is surprisingly raunchy for a Kdrama, especially in the beginning, while also being quite morbid and violent at times. However, I will admit that the dramatic tonal shifts as well as the absurd self-seriousness at times had me laughing harder than I have at many comedies. One particularly memorable moment of unintentional hilarity was when Tae Hang Ho, after being shot in the head, apparently drowned, and threatening to burn an old man's house down, was transformed by way of a magical haircut into Choi Jin Hyuk for the rest of the drama.
TLE is bad in a way that is truly confounding. It represents either an intentional, if unevenly executed, stab at satire or a disconnect from reality so profound that involved the entire production, crew, and cast at once. Which is not to say that there aren't any good things about the show. There is actually a staggering amount of acting talent in this cast, including but not limited to my long time love, Jang Na Ra. I was also continually impressed by the performance of seven year old Oh Ah Rin as Princess Ah Ri, who had surprising depth and complexity for a child character. There are really no bad performances, at least not within the context of the drama. I mean, pretty much everyone is a cartoon, but this is a cartoonishly over-the-top drama. Lee Elijah and Shin Eun Kyung are both playing extremely evil characters that are also wicked fun to watch. But despite all my better instincts, the real MVP of the drama has to be Shin Sung Rok as Emperor Hyuk.
Hyuk is absolutely loathsome in a way that had me rivetted to the screen. From the way he dressed to the way he emoted to the actions he took and everything in between, there was no way to predict where this character was going to end up from scene to scene, nonetheless episode to episode. When I thought he was going to zig, he always zagged. And Shin Sung Rok, who seems to have been type cast as the murderous but charismatic villain goes for it, whether he's being pathetic or cruel, whether the scene is melodramatic or the drama has taken a strange left turn into slapstick comedy (as it frequently does.) Hyuk is an absolute maniac, and SSR seems to be having the time of his life. Which isn't to say that I like Hyuk or condone his actions, to be clear, but god is he fun...
TLE is very much a ymmv affair. There's a lot of troubling stuff here ("problematic" is the understatement of the year). Most of the female characters are conniving murderous monsters. There's a ton of violence toward women and children and at least a few different forced kisses and...yeah, it's a mess. But the show is so damn weird I had a hard time taking any of it too seriously. And there's something delicious about this drama in a way I can't quite put my finger on. Once I got into it I was addicted. It might just come down to the fact that this show is remarkably well paced. As soon as I grew tired of one ridiculous twist, along came another to take its place. And that's why I don't know whether this is a rave or a rant. Because The Last Empress is empirically a terrible thing, and I'm going to miss it so much. 7.5/10

Different Kisses with Ken / Lee Jaehwan
Thanks so much for requesting Ken’s kisses too! Jaehwan is so much fun as a person that I’m hopeful you enjoy his kisses!
(I’m sorry I couldn’t find a better gif yet we all know he has plenty of kissy moments. If you find a better one that Tumblr will allow let me know!!)
Kissing Jaehwan happens so often you can always taste him on your lips.
First kiss:
Your first kiss with Jaehwan happened very early into your relationship. Jaehwan classes physical connection just as important as emotional, and he had already started holding your hand and hugging you incessantly right away, which you had readily accepted. He was smitten with you from the beginning; everything you did made his heart swoon. The one thing he couldn’t cope with is how adorable you could be without even intending to be. And that’s how he ended up kissing you, falling for your charms when you least expected it. He chuckled as he leaned over, the smile fading as he placed his hands on your face and met your lips for the first time. The kiss, apart from shocking you initially, was very soft and slow, his luscious lips further imprinting against yours the longer they were attached to you. And when you pulled back to catch your breath it wasn’t long until the first kiss was followed up by several more as if Jaehwan couldn’t quite decipher what he thought of your lips. When it was officially finished, he brushed the hair away from your face, surprisingly quiet for someone who normally talked so often. His eyes were shining though, and you could tell he was just as affected as you were from this stellar first kiss.
Public kisses:
Because physical connection is high on Jaehwan’s priority list, of course it makes sense he has a strong PDA game. Lots of holding your hand, hugging you at all times and endless kisses to your cheeks or forehead are common when out with Jaehwan. He’s a love-fool for you, his eyes are often just soaking you in and this lazy smile crosses his lips the longer he swoons over you. I’m certain you’ve often seen the hearts being emitted from these gazes towards you and equally shot them back, right? If there was a definition of totally being in love regardless of the environment, it would be you and Jaehwan!
Unlike some idols I write for, Jaehwan encourages you to shower him in physical attention when out together too. He is very open to loving on you and expects it back; teasing you until it’s gone too far and you’re both looking for an enclosed space to sweat out the loss of control you’re both facing together. Whilst stepping too far into this dangerous territory doesn’t happen often, when it does, you can count on Jaehwan enjoying the thrill of this semi-public lovemaking.
Private kisses:
Much like Hyuk, private life is lively. Jaehwan is loud, excessive and naturally playful so there is always something going on when you’re home together. Even if it’s something as simple as playing games or watching TV together, it’s hard for the atmosphere to be all that serious. I’m not saying Jaehwan can’t be serious, he most certainly can and knows exactly when to be so, but for the most part, it’s light and carefree. Kisses fill every space of your time together, from the moment you wake up, till the time you close your eyes, Jaehwan’s lips are often busy kissing you. The majority are soft and brief, followed with the cutest smiles that make his eyes crease up and you reach over to give him another kiss for being so darn adorable. Most kisses are initiated with his hands finding your face and holding you steady so you can enjoy the full experience.
Domestically though, Jaehwan is a chore. It’s not that he’s not good at doing tasks around the house; he’s pretty decent at most things. But this doesn’t make him all that dependable. Tasks that should only take five minutes can sometimes take thirty due to his energetic moods and constant need to lock lips. You’re cleaning the dishes? You need a kiss. He’s sweeping the floor and sees you over the room wiping down the coffee table? You need a kiss. Even one time he tried to kiss you whilst you were cleaning the toilet but you stopped that one before it came into fruition. If you allow him to, he’ll slow the entire schedule down just so he can love on you. And whilst it can be rather endearing, getting your chores done when he’s not home feels like a breeze and you wished it was like this more often. Everything you do excites him, and he feels a constant need to be touching you in some way, not teasingly or anything, just to be in connection with you no matter what you’re doing. Kissing you is just an added bonus that really brings you closer to one another in his mind and he isn’t ashamed with how often he does it, enjoying every chance he gets to lock lips with you.
He spoils you more than just with his affection, an avid lover of setting up date nights at home if you can’t go out and using all the most sentimental touches. You often come home to find little gifts waiting for you and when he’s overseas he’ll send care packages if he’s away for too long. Even if he’s not at your side, you can always feel his love.
Making out:
Jaehwan meets the opportunity to make out with you often. Even though his lips are on yours so frequently, there’s always an underlying hunger to taste more of you when you’re together. He’s an energetic lover and making out sessions are always heightened with a playful, teasing aspect. He isn’t one to take charge all the time, he’s too busy losing himself with your mouth upon his. Whatever happens isn’t planned, sometimes it’s slow and sensual with endless kisses all flowing one into the other until you feel like you possibly couldn’t have his mouth against your swollen lips any longer. Others it’s fast paced, with open-mouthed kisses being pressed into every inch of exposed skin he can find on your upper body, his hands roaming all over you at the same time. Either way, there is a heavy element of body worship from Jaehwan, making sure you know just how much he loves you with every kiss and touch. Jaehwan doesn’t have the best resilience and soon he’s too lost within the lust of making out with you that this session is definitely going to head to complete pleasure and connection in the bedroom (or if you can’t make it there in time, wherever you find yourselves positioned comfortably enough). The great thing about this is you equally need further attention by this point and rocking it out together is the only path you have left to travel.
Morning kisses:
When you go to bed at night, Jaehwan insists in holding you within his arms as if you’re cuddled into a giant teddy bear full of comfort and warmth. And that’s where you wake up most mornings as well, sleeping so peacefully in his arms that he whines grumpily if you try to disturb this to get up for the day. He’ll sleepily hold you hostage for as long as he possibly can, and in the process, he’s becoming alert that the new day has begun, smiles gracing his lips as he grows playful instead. You can expect a shower of kisses like little love bullets all over your face until you’re whining and he’s chuckling at how adorable you are getting worked up. Conversation is light, and any time you tried to talk about the day ahead he’ll change the topic, even covering you in more kisses just to avoid what needs to happen. Aegyo is often displayed in the mornings, his way of trying to sway you for five more minutes of cuddle time, until you’ve had enough, flinging him and the covers off and starting your day with him at your side or not! He’ll soon be up at the smell of breakfast, full of adoration for all you do for him. Naww.
Making up:
Arguing is actually rather rare with Jaehwan because despite all the crazy banter, he’s actually an excellent communicator. He’s observant enough to know when to approach things before they become a problem and if one slips through, he’ll quickly try to solve it so you don’t start arguing. For Jaehwan, he holds a lot of insecurities over who he is as a person and actually pretty self-critical, so letting things get to the point of an actual argument makes him anxious that he’s not doing a good enough job as a partner to you. If things get to this point, and you start to yell or worse, shut off from him, Jaehwan is going to do everything to stop it right there and then. He can’t stand disconnection and will try to cling to you both in a figurative and literal sense, attempting to pull you into his arms to calm you down and using soothing language to slow your thoughts too. But sometimes you really just need to let off steam and he’s not sure how to deal with it, retreating back into himself and taking it on as a personal attack. He’s sensitive by nature, and arguing really doesn’t sit well with him unless it’s the playful bickering you both express on a regular basis. It might take a few attempts on his behalf to placate you or if it’s gone too far, it will be you reaching out for him, but once reconciliation is on the table, Jaehwan is immensely relieved. Although he trusts in you and your relationship, he is still plagued by doubt that you might eventually leave him for someone better. You assure him he’s the only one for you and he’ll be desperate for physical connection, kissing you softly until he’s certain you’re not going anywhere.
I feel Jaehwan would be 50/50 over make-up sex. Sometimes he’d crave that complete connection to settle his nerves entirely, but other times he’ll know you’re his with all the kisses and cuddles you’re both giving each other.
Aegyo and Stop it! Kisses:
Here we go, the section I’m sure you all expected to see! Whilst Jaehwan does have a serious side and he does exercise that with you in all the appropriate points in life, he’s mostly this adorable dork, who acts waayyy too obnoxiously cute on a regular basis. Like Hyuk, Jaehwan is excessive in talking and at acting out – he’s more adept at it than his maknae! You want to say you’re used to it, and in some instances, you can carry on with life without batting an eye at his antics. But this just evokes a challenge in him and he drives you insane with his cheesy lines, puns and excessive cuteness. Aegyo is something you don’t mind too much, after all, you had to have some acceptance of it in your life to be with Jaehwan, but he can get too much and you only have two options left – to find a way to make it all stop or leave him for good. Knowing full well that you need your daily dose of Jyani much like you need your morning beverage to kick-start your day, you turn to him and pout heavily, asking him to quit it. Of course, he’s going to love this, knowing you’ll fight fire with fire and attempt to out-cute him until all he can think about is rewarding you with kisses. Sometimes you might need to kiss him hard to shut him up when all else fails, but kissing away all that cuteness with something a little more passionate will surely change the mood.
Needy kisses:
Like most needy idols, having your attention is a must. He is naturally affectionate and often at your side, but when feeling particularly needy for more of you (honestly is there more to give?!) he will literally encase you in his body and hold you to him, mumbling that you’re his and keep you hostage. Like in the mornings, he can get this needy and clingy at any stage of the day and night, holding you to him and planting kisses on the parts he can easily reach, whether it be your face, the crown of your head or if he’s nestled lower, your shoulders, upper chest – just anywhere he can get his lips on! Even if it’s sometimes a nuisance when you were busy doing something, it’s such a rush to you to be bundled up in his affections, unable to hide the smile that is now wide across your face. Equally, Jaehwan feels the same rush of emotions and love for you whenever you get needy yourself, babying you with affectionate touches and endless talking about how much you love him and need him. Of course, you definitely are not going to refute something that is so accurate so you merely look up at him and pucker your lips up, ready for his to start kissing you into a realm of pure bliss.
Lazy/ relaxed kisses:
I know I normally write some soft scene where not much is spoken about, with gentle kisses and a healing experience for this section, but with Jaehwan lazy days are rarely like this. I mean, there are endless snuggles and lots of kisses – this wouldn’t be Jaehwan if either of those are missing. But lazy moments are louder, there is something playing on the TV and whether you’re watching it or not is down to the focus you both have at that time. You could spend hours just stationed on the sofa curled up in each other, talking about anything and everything, lots of light laughter and affectionate nose bopping or nuzzling one another. Warm and gentle rubs of your arm with his hand as he holds you to his chest, and kisses on your forehead that make you swoon with every one that is delivered. And sure, this could have gone under private kisses, because you do a lot of hugging, kissing and swooning most days, but having the time to actually enjoy this for long periods isn’t as frequent. And even though it’s decidedly louder than most idols, it’s still a healing experience to let go of the schedule and just submerge in each other instead.
Reassuring kisses:
Being the communication king that Jaehwan is, whenever something is troubling him, he won’t hesitate to tell you. Sure, he holds his values of being the best boyfriend to you pretty high and with some idols I’ve written for who are like this; they would mask their concerns as not to worry their partner. Jaehwan is far too open with you for this to happen. Connection is huge for him (I keep saying this but it’s really true) and emotionally being able to express himself is rewarding when he knows you’ll so readily let him lean on you. Physically, he’ll place himself in your lap and tell you of his woes, glancing up at you often to gauge your response. You’ll mindlessly play with his hair in a rhythm that is soothing for both of you, and share your thoughts when you can. If it’s something you can’t quite help him with, you support him the best you can and that is enough as it is. Just speaking his problems into the universe makes the weight of them bearable. Kisses happen softly throughout, Jaehwan grabbing your other hand that you had rested over his torso and brings it up to anchor his lips there when he isn’t talking, making you smile down at him when he nuzzles into your stomach too. When he starts to be needlessly affectionate, you know you’ve settled most of his concerns and he’ll reluctantly peel himself out of your lap and then thank you before kissing you in a slow and lingering kiss.
I Love You kisses:
Jaehwan tells you often that he loves you. He loves the way you look in his clothes, how you cook him delicious food and even the cute messages you send him throughout the day to remind him to eat well and on time make his chest swell with love and pride that you’re his. So he has something to say I love you for every day. Not that he needs a reason for it, of course! And usually when he says this he doesn’t leave room for you to say anything back, instead he dives in for your lips, kissing you with demand or pecking you excessively if he’s in a playful mood.
But when you get the chance to say it, wow. It’s generally at night when you’re both in bed together with no distractions to throw off the weight of your words, uttering them out with such conviction that sometimes they make you emotional too. Jaehwan gets overwhelmed every time you tell him that you love him. Although he knows you’re his, hearing you proclaim how much you love him and want to do so forever literally makes him combust with all the feels. He wraps you up in his arms further, allowing no space between you and whispers back that he loves you too before kissing you. It’s soft, as if he’s barely touching you but soon builds into a heated and passionate embrace that you’re both breathing heavily when you fall apart, smiling at each other with complete adoration for each other. Stop it, I’m jealous.
You never expected to love living in such a squishy, fluffy ball of warmth and love, but now that’s all you want to do. Jaehwan is the ultimate boyfriend, he’s thoughtful, cheesy and fun, and he knows when he needs to be serious with you too. Although he kisses you so often you’re forever buying chapstick to keep up with the demand, you know that you’re ready for a lifetime’s supply of his luscious lips on yours.

It took me an eternity to actually finish this short drama, but this was so my spoon of tea. I love sci-fi and mystery and it has my babe in it (yeah… that’s how I name him… I even registered his September solo comeback as “My babe”… That’s just fucking sad… By the way, since I said that, let’s make it clear, I bought his album and I fucking love it. I also have Celebrate...).
Circle: Two Worlds Connected is a mystery thriller. In 2007, Woo-Jin and Bum-Gyun witness the arrival of an alien on Earth. Ten years later, Bum-Gyun (who was sceptic at the time of the identity of the creature) is now obsessed with finding this very alien and. As he tries to uncover the truth, he’s somewhat involved in a series of suicide happening at Woo-Jin’s college. In 2037, Korea is divided in two worlds: Smart Earth and General Earth. Kim Joon-Hyuk is investigating the disappearance of the twins (Woo-Jin and Bum-Gyun) twenty years ago and end up following a lead in the Smart Earth, a place where everybody is under the control of a chip.
As always, I tried to put the less spoilers it was possible in the review, but some might have escaped me, so please stay careful as you read.
Personally, I found the first episode a little bit long. It was used to set everything in place and introduce the intrigue. The thing was that the present was a bit stretched and it’s quite unsettling because there’s a lot of things you see as “what the fuck, what just happened, why?”, so let’s just say that the first episode is a bit particular. What really prompted me to continue the series was the future world. But, the drama gets better right after the first episode. Sure, sometimes the story line of the present is really confusing. There’s a lot of questions and incertitude in it as well as some frustration towards the powerlessness of the main characters. Even if the fact that the story is going a little bit in all the directions (even though it follows a common thread that will, near the end, be unveiled), it’s exactly what makes this drama so good. The plot is quite complex and it keeps us in suspense through the whole 12 episodes. What really blow-minded me about this drama was that everything seemed so predictable, a lot of things were like “that’s so evident, do they even plan on trying to pass us a plot twist on this?”, but the plot is so well-constructed that most of the viewer’s certitude are completely wrong and there’s so much plot twists. Once I finished the drama and everything makes sense (coz it’s quite a long ride and you can’t grasp everything on the moment), I realized how meticulous and awesome the progression was. Everything was well-thought and put in place in such way that it would contribute to the intrigue. For what it is of the pace, I have to admit that the past story line had quite a few lengths (as said before), it was sometimes kind of boring, but the future was always awesome (no, I’m not fangirling over Kikwang, I’m just thinking the story line of the future is great).
So, for the characters, let’s take care of the very general things first. There are no useless characters that are really important in the story. No matter what character there is, it has its use in the story and makes it progresses without making such development seem forced. They, also, all seem to have their own goal and reason of being other than just helping the story. Their evolution are completely awesome and quite well-made. And the bad guys are awesome because they are well-thought and well-brought, but they are so despicable that you really want to murder them sometimes. Then, for the most specific characters, I’ll treat mostly about the past/2017 characters rather than the future characters because doing so would be spoiling the whole intrigue. Among the twin, my favorite was Ji-Woo because he is well-thought and he’s a complex two-sided character who isn’t uselessly stubborn and who isn’t always closed to other characters. For Bum-Gyun, I found him really annoying at the start because he keeps bugging everyone and acting crazy, but my appreciation for him grew bigger as the drama progressed and, at the end, there’s nothing else to say that he’s amazing. Lastly, for the present days characters, let’s briefly talk about Byul. She’s really cool, but from the start to the finish she’s the messiest character of the drama. Her story keeps going back and forth and I found it quite hard to define her as a character. And then, I’ll just say a quick word about SeoHo, which is Kikwang’s character. I personally really liked his personality, thought his story was a bit empty and I was so amazingly frustrated by him.
So, I’ll conclude there before spoiling the whole story line. For me, the plot would be worth a 9/10 even though it lacks a little bit, but overall it was so great that I can’t bring down the grade. Also, it’s so rare to have a sci-fi thriller in Korea, that I’m crazy about it. For the characters it would be 4/5. And the tearjerker factor a 2/5.

Fairy Tale, Part 2
Suspicious Partner fanfic - Ji Eun Hyuk and Cha Yoo Jung’s story. This is part 2 of 2. If you haven’t, please read Part 1 first.
*-*-*-*-*
Fairy Tale, Part 2: The Ending
Hello, dear reader. Are you still here?
Then settle down, and I’ll tell you the story of the night that the princess kissed our green-eyed monster.
Prince Eun Hyuk remained true to his word, and left the happy couple to their work at the prosecutor’s office. Only at night, when he could conceal his love with the shadows, would he meet them, his best friend and his love.
At these night-blessed meetings, he could spend time in darkened bars imagining himself at the end of the smiles that Yoo Jung directed at Wook. It was only looking, he reasoned, and as long as there was no touching, he maintained that delicate balance between his conscience and his envy.
Some nights, he would catch himself and be revolted at his own pathetic endeavours to still see Yoo Jung. Wook was brother to him, in everything but blood, and except for that family bond he would never be where he was today. That he had put his own time and talent into his career was invisible to Eun Hyuk. For those who learn to hate themselves for their bodies often could not see treasure in their own minds, but were ever grateful for those who lifted them up, regardless of their ugly imperfections.
On other nights, he found his actions perfectly justified. Noble, even. These were the nights when the green-eyed monster slipped seductive, stealthy limbs into the depths of Eun Hyuk’s heart. Wook had left them alone, together, hurrying back to his unfinished work and trusting his best friend to bring his girl safely home. The green-eyed monster’s roaring triumph came on the night Wook did not even appear, claiming an urgent deposition and last minute evidence. A young man, building his career, was simply busy making the expected sacrifices.
Suddenly Eun Hyuk’s noble loyalty to Wook and his love for Yoo Jung were on the same side, and nothing, no amount of prior self-loathing or sense of loyalty could overcome that grotesque unity of purpose.
On those bewildering nights he would sit next to tipsy Yoo Jung in the taxi home. She could lean on his shoulder for support as they tottered upstairs. He was allowed to wrap an arm around her slender waist. He was permitted to comfort her, extend his protection over her, and until they parted at her door, be the man she was going home with.
“Sometimes I feel like you’re my boyfriend, not Wook,” she once observed.
And sometimes: “You seem to know what I am thinking even before I say it.”
This: “I am glad I can tell you these things.”
Then this: “Eun Hyuk, always wear blue, you’re handsome in blue.”
Each statement would tear into his heart. Each statement gave it new life.
*-*-*-*-*
Yoo Jung said these things, as honest when drunk as she was when sober. In fact, she heard them come out of her mouth and that hearing made her listen to herself. And then, as often happens in life, she dimly glimpsed an alternate version of her life’s journey, one charted with Eun Hyuk instead of Wook, and brief as it was, a surge of warmth and belonging came through that vision. She felt that glowing vision brush up against her cool, uncomplicated relationship with Wook, where both were happy working and meeting when their careers did not need them.
But she was a practical person, and knew that time did not come in blocks, with events to be rearranged willy nilly to one’s satisfaction. No, the correct choice of one man two years ago meant that going to Eun Hyuk, as his best friend, would forever be the wrong choice. Even done fairly, unemotionally and sequentially, the act of leaving Wook, giving it time, and then turning to Eun Hyuk would still mean the loss of the threesome. Her team. Her guys.
And so she suffocated the vision and grimly buried it.
*-*-*-*-*
So you see, for these three, ill-fated souls, nothing could change. Until the day that our two princes, Wook and myself, found themselves on the opposing ends of a forgery case, they might have lasted for many more years together, perhaps their whole lives.
Isn’t that funny? Ha ha.
*-*-*-*-*
The case pitted a second wife against a man’s fortune. I was defending the young, newly divorced wife against the old man’s accusations of her forging his signature. The evidence against her was thin, and Wook knew it. It was only the seductive glances she sent my way that convinced him that love had not been part of this woman’s marriage. I saw Wook shake his head in resignation as I skewered him in court, hammering a nail into his paltry evidence of forgery.
He told me so, at lunch after. “You’re too damned good, Eun Hyuk.”
I only grinned. Beating Wook was to be savoured.
“You made it sound as if her cheating on that old man could make sense.”
I kept the smile going, though nothing felt funny.
“Ah … Wook, she never slept with anyone else, so nothing ever happened to cement her motive, right? It’s all in the evidence, Wook. Should I send you back to law school for some refreshers?”
“You’re a mean bastard,” Wook said, without heat. “Don’t tell me you didn’t see the way she was looking at you. That woman is a cheater, through and through.”
Something stuck in my throat.
“Ha ha, Super Noh. Able to judge a person in a single glance! You’re getting so good, you can skip the part where you hear out the person’s reasons, examine the evidence, and make a fair judgement.”
Wook only sighed, acknowledging my point. He took off his glasses and rubbed his face tiredly. “Who has time?” he asked rhetorically. “Which reminds me, there are five other cases that need my attention now. This one’s done.”
Wook stood up. “See you tonight. Drinks on me, since you won.”
I only nodded. The lump that lodged in my throat that afternoon refused to budge. Everywhere I turned, I heard the echo of that word, “cheater”.
It shrieked in my ear when Yoo Jung walked into the bar that night. She was dressed in a pin-striped, narrow dark suit and all was well until she shucked her jacket to reveal that the tiny wedge of white exposed at her neckline was a silky, spaghetti-strapped chemise. I looked. I did not stop myself.
We laughed. We toasted. We caught each other up on the day, on our cases. We waited for Wook.
The evening wore on, and Wook did not appear.
At 11.34, Yoo Jung checked her phone’s messages again.
|| I still can’t finish. Don’t wait for me.||
She turned the phone to me.
“Let’s go home.”
I looked at her face. The words were no different from what she’d said so many times before. Only this time, there was a sheen to her eyes. When have I ever seen her cry before?
“I’m not crying,” she said, blinking away the evidence.
“Of course, you’re not,” I said even as a ball of fury filled my chest. I stood up and took her elbow.
In the taxi, there were no words. There were no words when Yoo Jung gripped my hand, tightly, searching for control. I said nothing when a tear slipped off her cheek onto my shoulder.
At the door of her apartment, she entered her code and pushed the door open. Then she turned, and looked down at our still joined hands.
“Today was our anniversary,” she murmured to our hands. “I understood, last year, too. I do understand.”
Still, I had no words. The thoughts that swirled in my head were too righteous, too furious, too serious. I could only offer a hug and a comforting touch.
Yoo Jung accepted and stepped in, slipping naturally and perfectly into my personal space. Her shoulders felt cold, her shudders felt sad. So damn sad.
That was when I broke my barriers. Already, I was guilty. I had looked. For two damning years, I had looked. Wook was right, a cheater is born when he looks. Still I could see no wrong in my actions. It was only a correction of the course of our lives. Yoo Jung was hurting and I could stop that hurt.
I reached down for her lips, and she reached up for my kiss… and that was the night protection and possession became one. With my body I made love to her that night. With my soul I made promises.
When she lay in my arms afterwards, I found the words. I could explain. It would be a difficult time for the three of us, but it would be alright. I thought I could sit Wook down, and explain about how we need to live shamelessly and love shamelessly. He would listen. I would make him understand that what we did in the past didn’t have to decide what would happen next.
I believed that Yoo Jung and me, together, we had a fighting chance. I believed, until Wook walked in on us.
Yoo Jung left the country. Wook froze me out. I stayed to wait for him. I had to. One day I will make it up to Wook. In the years since, I’ve come to realize that our fates had always been sealed, and I was the only fool who thought differently. One had become three and we were ever broken.
We lived brokenly ever after. Ha ha.
The End.
*-*-*-*-* Author’s note: This was a joy to write. Here are some insights I gained while writing this:
1. Writer Kwon Ki Young and her team have done a fantastic job with the character backgrounds and motivations in Suspicious Partner. Writing this, I found that all the plot points so quickly glossed over the in the drama hang together very well when fleshed out. I literally gasped with surprise every time I found the story I was writing naturally hitting the next character detail in SP.
2. Eun Hyuk’s love story is an intriguing and sad mirror to Ji Wook’s romance with Bong Hee. In both, it was the move to decide to live shamelessly that pushed the loveline forward. The common point is Wook, who, until he met Bong Hee, lived cautiously and passively. Bong Hee is the one who made him reach out to change his fate. The fascinating is Bong Hee’s motivation and character is foretold in Eun Hyuk’s story. When he chose to seize the day and planned to tell Wook about how he felt about Yoo Jung, he came very close to success. Like Wook, a fear of consequences, a lack of self-esteem held him back until it was too late.
So there, this was as much a mental exercise as an emotional one for me, and I hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!

Min Kyung Chae [Park Eun Hae] is the daughter of a wealthy family who works hard in her family’s hotel. As she struggles to keep her family together, she must also fight against another woman determined to steal everything she has.
We have a very dramatic opening to start. It is pouring rain and two women are driving on a lonesome road. One is very nervous and scared wearing a baseball cap while the other is on the phone with her boyfriend talking about how every thing is messed up and how she needs to find Chef Jin Soo Hyuk [Kang Kyung Joon]. Her boyfriend [Kang Ji Sub as Han Ji Sub] promises to ask his friends and call her back. The woman in the truck stops just past a high accident warning sign and unloads the body of a man. He can’t blame her for doing this. He told her that she would never be happy after all. If she cannot find happiness then she will just steal another’s.
Ji Sub calls Kyung Chae back saying that he managed to find the phone number or a friend of Jin Soo Hyuk’s. Kyung Chae is elated and thanks him for helping her. Does she want to write the number down? A smart person would pull off the road to do so, but Kyung Chae just stretches to reach her glove box. She opens it, but the pad of paper falls on the floor. She takes her eyes off the road to grab it. When she finally straightens up, it is too late. She runs something over and slams on her breaks. She asks Ji Sub what she should do. Not knowing what happened and with Kyung Chae in shock, Ji Sub yells at her to get her to come to her senses and tells her to check out the situation. Kyung Chae climbs out and sees the man in the road, blood flowing from his head. She collapses to the ground.
This happens a lot in dramas. Not all daily dramas, but quite a few. Crazy Love had an interesting opening that had nothing to really do with the plot of the drama. This, I am sure is starting more towards the breakdown for our leading lady, but who knows?
We are transported to a bright and sunny day at the Star Hotel. There we meet the calm and polite Eun Hee Soo [Wang Bit Na] who is the crazy lady from the opening. It’s contract renewal time and all temporary employees are nervous if their contracts will be renewed or if they will be promoted to a permanent employee. Hee Soo’s coworker is nervous and thus accepts movie tickets from the head of personnel who has quite the bad reputation. The coworker says it is easy for Hee Soo who is shoe in and will most likely get renewed or promoted. The coworker’s kitchen buddy was recently fired for ticking that man off, so she doesn’t want to get on his bad side. What an abuse of power, but sadly it is still common in this world.
Meanwhile, Kyung Chae is having lunch in the hotel. This is not her family’s hotel (Mona Lisa Hotel), but a rival hotel. Their customers come to eat at the Staror order food from there even though the menus are identical. Apparently the taste is better at Star, but it doesn’t make sense for guests to get outside food. They continue eating while the assistant bad mouths the guest that always comes to stay in room 1004. Kyung Chae reminds Jin Kyung that it is bad form to do so and they continue on.
Of course, Hee Soo’s path to being promoted is going to hit a major stumbling block. She is called to deal with a guest who is unhappy about the food. Hee Soo is polite and trying to smooth over the situation, but it is done very badly. First she says that it might be possible that the guest checked the wrong food option (such a thing doesn’t work with a woman like that) and then she says the guest was supposed to deliver her order to the kitchen staff, not Hee Soo. Yes, that customer was evil, but such excuses don’t work in that kind of customer service place. So the woman throws a major fit an has Hee Soo get down on her knees and apologize. The woman then tosses water in her face and walks out. All of this is witnessed by the horrified Kyung Chae.
Hee Soo is cleaning up in the bathroom when Kyung Chae comes in. She is very apologetic towards Hee Soo. The customer was really too much and should never have done such a thing. Kyung Chae hands over her handkerchief for Hee Soo to clean off with. Kyung Chae refuses to take it back and leaves. Even though she was kind, I’m not quite sure how Hee Soo took it. She seems to be quite prideful.
Back at the Mona Lisa, Kyung Chae brings the guest in room 1004 the food from Star. Na Hae Geum [Sa Mi Ja] is happy to have good food at last. Kyung Chae assures her the food at Mona Lisa will be just as good if not better as they have hired a new chef. Who? Jin Soo Hyuk. Na does not seem happy to hear this. Does she know the chef? Na quickly says that she would not know such a famous chef. Riiight.
Hee Soo is on her way home and finds her mother, who runs a bar, vomiting outside. She rubs her back and Gong Madam [Kim Chung as Gong Bok Ja] turns around and asks who it is. Kim Chung can have such a grating and annoying voice and she usually plays characters where this annoying voice is played up. Hee See doesn’t like her mother drinking, but Gong Madam cannot not drink since she is a bar owner. How about drinking less? Gong Madam then says she needs no one else, just her daughter. Hee Soo calls her out on this lie and then asks if she should quit her job at the hotel. Gong Madam reminds her that they need Hee Soo’s paycheck to survive the quagmire of debt they are in. This does nothing to ease Hee Soo’s mind.
The next day Kyung Chae goes to her father’s office where he asks how her first official job after promotion to vice president is going. Kyung Chae says they have signed the contract with the chef and when he comes from Italy, he will go through the formal process. Her father [Jan Jin Hee as Min Dong Chul] then urges her to accept a blind date with the son of a prominent businessman. Kyung Chae says she cannot since she’s still getting used to the new position. Nope. She’s in love with the general manager of the hotel. Their relationship must be kept secret for now, but Kyung Chae wishes to tell her father soon which pleases Ji Sub. Honestly, I don’t think he’s 100% a social climber and does have some genuine feelings for Kyung Chae. I just don’t see her father accepting their relationship for whatever reasons, but I could be wrong. In dramaland, though, even if the person is good, if their background isn’t the parents always oppose.
Ji Sub and Kyung Chae are eating lunch together in the cafeteria when she spots her father’s driver and invites him to sit with them. Driver Han [Im Ha Ryong as Han Byun Gook] initially refuses, but Kyung Chae won’t let him escape. His presence really makes Ji Sub agitated. Kyung Chae feeds Driver Han and asks him to take good care of her father again. She then feeds Ji Sub by putting a mushroom on his spoon of rice. Ji Sub freezes. Driver Han quickly says that Ji Sub cannot eat mushrooms and takes it from him. This horrifies Ji Sub even more. When Kyung Chae asks how Driver Han knew of the allergy, the driver just laughs it off as having overheard it one day. Nope. It’s a big secret that Driver Han is the general manager’s father. Shakes head.
Outside, Kyung Chae talks about how reliable Driver Han is and how she imagines he is a dependable father at home. Ji Sub looks away as if he’d disagree if he was actually acknowledging the relationship between his father and himself. He then asks Kyung Chae if she wants to go on a drive with him later. She can’t as today is Wednesday. She has to go to the Center to pick up her sister Eun Chae [Kim Da Ye].
I don’t know how old Eun Chae is, but her mental faculties do not match her age. She acts like a young child when she is at least a teenager. Kyung Chae treats her sister as if she were perfectly normal which is good. Eun Chae tells her unni that her friends’ mothers come to pick them up. Is Eun Chae sad that Kyung Chae is picking her up? Eun Chae is sad their mother isn’t there, but it is okay since their mother is sick. Plus, Eun Chae really loves her big sister.
At night, Eun Chae is in bed reading a children’s book upside down when Kyung Chae comes to tuck her in. The older sister just gently turns the book right side up and instructs her sister that is how you should read it. Eun Chae says her friends’ mothers read them bedtime stories. Does Eun Chae want their mother to read to her? Yes, but since their mother is sick, she gets a pass here, too. Kyung Chae says that when their mother is better, she will love Eun Chae. The younger girl repeats this and snuggles into her bed while Kyung Chae looks sad. You know something is going on with their mother and her treatment of Eun Chae.
The next morning Kyung Chae goes to get her mother for breakfast. Yeo Ok Sun [Lee Hwi Yang] is quietly reading a book and doesn’t look sick at all. Kyung Chae is bright and bubbly which seems to vex her mother. When Kyung Chae says all daughters are kids in front of their mothers [even when they are adults], Ok Sun says having Eun Chae as a kid is enough. Kyung Chae ignores this snide remark and wheels her mother out. You couldn’t tell from the start, but Ok Sun is in a wheelchair. At the breakfast table, Eun Chae and President Min are already there. Eun Chae looks nervous at Ok Sun’s arrival. They sit down to eat and Kyung Chae announces she is the youngest and only female VP of a hotel and gets Eun Chae to clap for her. She then asks for encouragement from her mother as well as a visit to show her mother around her new office. Ok Sun makes no replies and only warns her daughter to be wary of the jealousy of others.
As they eat, Eun Chae tries to feed her stuffed rabbit. The more Eun Chae talks and tries to feed the toy, the more vexed Ok Sun looks until she yells at Eun Chae telling her to stop the ridiculousness before wheeling herself off. This has Eun Chae bursting into tears and President Min looking very angry. While Kyung Chae comforts her little sister, President Min confronts his wife. Shouldn’t she pity their youngest child? Ok Sun says she deserves the pity because if it wasn’t for “that girl” she wouldn’t be like she is today. President Min says other parents walk through fire for their children. Can’t Ok Sun let it go?
President Min leaves the room in frustration telling his daughter that he doesn’t know what to do about his wife. This worries Kyung Chae and she tries to think of a way to help mend things between her parents. She asks her assistant Jin Kyung about her own parents. Whenever Jin Kyung’s parents have a fight, they watch a comedy movie. A movie! Kyung Chae purchases tickets for her parents for a movie that stars her mother’s favorite actor. This surprises President Min, but he readily agrees. Even though things are bad, there is still affection for Ok Sun and a willingness to try to make things work (on his end at least).
Madam Gong is at the theater when she spies President Min waiting. She uses a cheap trick (rolling her soda to his feet) to get close to him and then starts talking incessantly trying to pick him up. He finally coldly tells her that he’s waiting for someone. He gets a call and says it looks like Ok Sun isn’t coming. He didn’t think she would, but he held out hope. Ok Sun is lying in bed reading and refusing to go. What a woman. Madam Gong’s date shows up and she is displeased. She spends the movie watching President Min instead. He’s just her style.
At the Han household, Driver Han and his wife [Seo Kap Sook as Ki Chan Sook] are talking about today’s incident. The president kept waiting until the very end. Chan Sook just doesn’t get Ok Sun. If it had been her, she would have definitely gone. Enter the surly Ji Sub who barely greets his parents and heads in the house after rejecting watermelon. Chan Sook asks if her husband acted like he knew him at work. Driver Han quickly refutes this. While he cannot help his son advance in this world, he won’t hold him back either. He then works Chan Sook to make sure Ji Sub doesn’t find out she works as a maid in the Min household. Since Ji Sub has no reason to go to the Min household, she should be safe. Technically, but you know her son will find out if Kyung Chae brings him home as her boyfriend. Ah, we also learn that Driver Han is too trusting and has been stabbed in the back and left holding the bag after co-signing loans for friends.
Inside the Han’s house, their youngest son is studying [Lee Yong Joo as Han Pil Sub]. When Ji Sub comes in, Pil Sub teases his hyung about now being in charge of making deliveries to the hotel. Should he try out the food at the Mona Lisa? Ji Sub is not amused. Why is everyone acting like this and causing trouble? He warns Pil Sub to just make his deliveries and keep his mouth shut. Pil Sub does not like this attitude of his brother’s. Does Ji Sub treat their father this way at work, too? Silence. Pil Sub knows this is confirmation and is unhappy. He is a deliveryman and studying for something. I do not know if he’s tying to get into college or planning on taking something like a civil servant exam. Anywho, his hyung belittles his job and then demands Pil Sub turn off the lights. Looks like Ji Sub is king of that household and Pil Sub mouths off under his breath that he’s still trying to study.
Hee Soo goes to work the next morning as usual only to find her coworker from earlier has taken her locker. What is going on? Looks like that customer from the other day wrote a letter of complaint against Hee Soo. The woman is in shock. She got down on her knees and got a face full of water and the woman still complained to management? She reminds the head of personnel about how good she is hardly taking sick days an always being on time. She was also employee of the month before. He knows of her situation. Is there no other way? We end this episode with him saying there is a way. Since he is a sleezeball, I’m sure it’s not good.
I think Park Eun Hye was an innocent and optimistic woman in Pink Lipstick to start as well. What is it with her and roles where she gets everything taken away and seeks out to regain and get revenge on those who betrayed her? I have some pity for Hee Soo right now, but for her to go as far as she does at the beginning of the episode, I’m sure that won’t last long. Ji Sub’s attitude towards his family is annoying. Compared to some really bad families in other dramas, his isn’t bad at all. At least Kyung Chae is nice to everyone in her family and tries to bring them together while Ji Sub insists on walling himself off from his family. There is nothing wrong with wanting a better life, but how you get there is important, isn’t it?

Park Jimin
Welcome to the party! Please accept the contact request from Vivid Bot and accept the invitations to each of our 5 groups. Hope we have some good times
IC Name: Park Jimin International Age: 21 Group or Occupation: Bangtan Boys Company: Big Hit Introduce yourself to our users: Hello I’m Jimin and I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and building great friendships on Vivid :) Let’s share a meal. OOC Age: 26 Time Zone: est Describe your muse in 200 words or more:
There’s a reason why Jimin is the most popular muse to rp. He’s such a great muse to write. His personality is kind in a genuine sense where he’s always looking out for his friends and loved ones. He cares a lot about what other people think and because of that he works hard to meet the high expectations of others and the high expectations he sets for himself. Even though it can be burdensome for him to strive so high he’s surrounded by many who do the same and that’s a huge comfort to him. He works to attain positivity, happiness, and warmth and there’s no way he’d be able to do that without a support system around him.
Jimin is a little shy when he doesn’t know someone but he can be outgoing in the right atmosphere. Lately he’s been creating friendships outside of Bangtan. Jimin tries to be really sweet and likable, so that helps others find him in a good way. He tends to go with the flow as well; like when V messes with him or J-hope teases him Jimin will just laugh and go along with the games. He does have a short temper though and sometimes when V goes too far he’ll get angry really quickly and after he cools down things generally go back to normal.
When he’s feeling competitive - if he loses, Jimin will pick someone to cheer for and he’ll get really invested in wanting that person to win. Jimin likes to feel successful and to get things right. Though he doesn’t take himself too seriously when he’s off stage. He’ll often joke around dancing or fake trying to be sexy and just look silly.
He has a very masculine sense about him; it almost seems forced. Like when Jimin tries to be sexy on variety shows or stages he bucks himself up and storms around acting tough and threatening. But it ends up coming off as more adorable than strong? I think he believes it makes him look cool to show off like that though I couldn’t imagine him actually hurting someone with intent to harm.
So we’ve taperd down to the sad stuff. It’s well known that Jimin has insecurities. Sometimes he lets them bother him visibly, other times he tries to cover them up. It helps for him to focus on others to distract himself, or set goals for improvement so that he feels accomplished.
There’s a lot more that could be added since I tend to think very deeply into Jimin’s personality.
Describe your muses relationship with two of their closest friends:
Namjoon really likes being around Jimin and the feeling is mutual. They can be fairly serious together or fairly silly. It’s often either one or the other since any shift between those two atmosphere would be an eruption of laughter that’s almost impossible to get out of. Jimin really looks up to Namjoon and they have a lot in common.
Jungkook is another person that Jimin really admires. He’s older but Jungkook rarely makes him feel older even if he demands that kind of respect. Their banter is adorable; even if it’s faded in quantity over the years as they’ve gotten closer and more comfortable together. Despite any rifts in their friendships you can tell that they really care about each other and rely on their friendship as a sense of support.
It’s hard not to add the rest because they’re equally important.
List any friendships your muse has outside their group:
Jimin has a famous group friendship with Taemin, Kai, Timoteo, Sungwoon, and Kwonho. He also considers Hyuk of Vixx to be a really close friend.
