FINALLY DONE

I FINALLY FINISHED EMMA!!!! THIS IS THE LONGEST HARDEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. OMG! I WENT TO ALASKA AND TOLD MYSELF IF I FINISH THIS I COULD READ PERCY JACKSON AND I DID IT. I FINSIHED EMMA BY JANE AUSTEN!!!

(this might be a long post, just letting y'all know in case you wanna scroll by, yes tldr at bottom)

on a side note i did make a lot of promises about doing chapter reviews and whatnot but lemme just get into it:

while overall a good book, for me personally it was really difficult to read and understand. this may be because i am getting back into reading. granted it probably didn't help that i was trying to write my thoughts w a pen in the margins causing me to also underline almost every page making it harder and longer to read. at one point i had to stop cause it wasn't helping and turned to audiobooks to help me finish this book. and tbh it really helped (me at least).

i see why the book was the way it was but lowkey i am kinda confused as to the plot and why it was written in such a long roundabout way. my guess is that it was jane austen's writing style, which is p cool and interesting as it is the first i had seen of that kind, or thats the way things were done back then. or maybe it was to worldbuild and characterbuild. idk. i kinda need to sparknotes it all.

also i thought emma's sudden attraction to knightley was sudden, but not shocking, after all she spent most of the book not wanting to marry and to set others up so to me it was like hmmm, but it did make the pacing of the book pick up a little.

I liked the characters and the story overall though. i think at the end of the day the thing that made it hard for me to read was the way and style in which it was written and it was frustrating to me that i was unable to grasp it at all the first time i would read it or if i did i was relying alot on context clues and hoping i was interpreting things correctly. i think that's also what made me dislike the book even though in terms of literature or just a regular book its p good.

idk i think i have more thoughts but its late and im tired so maybe ill get to it some other time so

tldr; i liked book, glad i finsihed it, but it made me v frustrated that I couldn't understand it well alot

I need your thoughts on a little theory I have about moana 2

(Spoilers ahead i guess??)

So. Shes a demigod now, and im really hyped for it (even tho the thought of her just never getting older, watching Simea grow and die is really bittersweet)

I spend the whole day thinking about her new powers. We saw in the end of the movie she can see sea ​​current (aparrently). Her tattoos and oar glow golden and the path show itself. So im thinking she problably has some powers around navigations. I bet she never will get lost in the sea again, probably she'll be able to """see""" coordenates and paths and maybe even talk with marine animals?

Idk, shes giving me Percy Jackson vibes. Like full Percy Jackson powers!

Also!

A little hc, maybe theory? I think she will act as a bridge between different languages. Either she'll be able to understand all languages or her mere presence will act as a live translator so people from different places will be able to chat and share more easy.

I cant wait to see more!

I get it why people like Harry Potter. I hate it deeply but tbh I disagree with people that say it is a very poorly written series with shit characters and worldbuilding so why bother. I think the prose is pretty engaging, the worldbuilding is not the best, but it's endearing and interesting enough to grab a kid/teen's attention and the plot is fun. Jkr is not a bad person because she is a bad writer and Harry Potter is not bad because it is badly written (it does lack quality in certain aspects and plenty of times the author's despisable values show through her words tho).

I used to like it very much. That's why it kinda hurts to see it anywhere. The other day a kid a few grades below me was walking away from our school's book club with a HP book in one hand. He was smilling so much. It made me so deeply upset just to see the cover. I didn't say anything

It's just. It's not the best series. But it's just so twisted that it is the way it is. That every penny sent to the franchise is used to chase trans people off. To ruin their lives.

I used to read it over and over again when I had bad days. The basic and fantasy-y storyline of a boy having a bad time and then defeating the big evil in such a light and fun prose always made me feel better. I cried when Dumbledore died. I read all of the books more times than I can count and watched the movies with my family while we were cozy in blankets on our living room.

It feels like a betrayal. Like it was a lie. I cared about the books but it turned out the will that sewed them into life didn't think I deserved it. It wants me dead. It wants me bleeding out in the streets and it wants me to stop being myself so I can have a quiet and miserable end. And the woman who carries this will does it so eagerly and it's just—it's like being stabbed in the gut by someone you thought was your best friend, only to find out they had been betraying you for far, far longer than you even thought about trusting them.

It is not the best series, yes. I found Percy Jackson a few years later and it honestly made my whole year that time. You can find fun prose in many places. You can find the same tropes with better writing and more engaging perspectives of you look a little further. It is very hyped up but Harry Potter is not actually the best book series out there. The thing that hurts is that I liked it. It was my childhood. It was the book I found first. It was the movie I saw when my parents were together. It were the pages I would go through after having a bad day. It was the characters I daydreamed about when I was scared about the new presidency that I saw as my irl voldemort, because I was scared.

But every single thought I spent with it, every moment, every page, every excited chatter only served to make it grow a little more and to expand Rowling's platform and influence that she wants to use to hurt more people.

And that hurts.

I believe the song I would go with would probably be Francesca by Hozier, or Unknown/Nth by Hozier. The Bridge to Unknown is probably my favourite because it's such a like emotional lyric. It depicts the story of someone willing to do anything for someone who doesn't love them back.

What is your go-to way to fall asleep?

Usually cuddled up with a teddy and listening to a sleep aid ^^ there's only a few times that I pass out a few minutes after laying down/with no help. My favourite sleep aid to go to is Ollie's gaming sleep aid where he's playing MK (I have trouble with the "traditional" sleep aids because its too quiet)

If you had to change your name, what would it be, and why? (In tandem, if you have changed your name, why did you pick that one?)

I won't say what name I chose when i first found out I was Enby because it would (potentially) give me away but the reason I chose it is because it tied multiple parts of my interests together. It felt fitting for that reason. Plus, when ppl hear my name they can usually see that I picked it myself and know that I'm queer as hell so.

What is your favorite of Redacted’s audios, and why?

I adore Milo's "getting ready" video (getting dressed up for your feisty werewolf boyfriend), it always makes me feel very special ^^ I also just adore Milo in general (probably my top fav). I also really enjoy the imperium series as it gives us a different side to the boys we love sm.

What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? Like, not the one you hate but the one who you don’t get the hype for. (I won’t judge, I promise.)

I think that one of the boys I don't understand the hype for is Lasko (though, he's slowly growing on me now). I don't know what it was about early Lasko but he just didn't scratch that part of my brain for the longest time.

ummm lets see, maybe that im a reader and creator. I love creating things and indulging in others creations so much its insane. I also don't have a strict like association with foods only being for certain meals. like pancakes/eggs and bacon are an any meal kinda food kinda deal. I'm also more of a night owl, though if I get enough sleep I don't mind being up at 5/6 am if its needed/gives me time to chill before the day "actually starts".

So Avior went through HELL, a whole-ass hell, and made the tragic, Byronic hero’s choice to drag his lover back into that hell. That’s so Unreal Unearth-coded. That’s, like, textbook Hozier; that’s your man.

That’s half of it; the other half is that Avior is so Greek mythology, classics, Socratic coded. Like, he gives so much dark academic vibes, and he really rocks it. That’s a man who has strong opinions about Marcus Aurelius and Stoicism in the best way. Avior loves hearing you talk about Greek myths and philosophy and would be the kind of partner where you’d have lots of lively discussions on translations and interpretation of their literature.

Every day with him would be so lively; Avior is the type who’d be such a fantastic beta reader when you’re in need of him. He’s thoughtful, analytical but not cruel or harsh. The two of you just devour books, reccing things to each other constantly. Avior’d also be so fun to watch Grey’s Anatomy with in that he fucking hated it at first but he’s obsessed now. He would have a big crush on Dr. Yang, and who could blame him?

I love this song and how fantastic, longing, romantic, and tragic it is. It’s a little more Imperium than Prime-coded but no matter the universe, the vibes of holding onto one another as the sky falls to pieces around you will always suit you and Avior. (This is my favorite version but I also recommend the Matt Maltese original.)

This isnt what I'm set to stone to read nor a goal just options that interest me right now :)

- my grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry by Frederick Backman (because after having read the Britt Marie book by him in a previous vacation he has been promoted to a beach read author)

- Of mice and men (started before vacation but I didn't wanna bring it with me since its not exactly fitting the wholesome light vibes I'm going for, but it's such a short and easy classic and I keep thinking about it)

- as good as dead (always good to finish a new favourite trilogy :) heard the main character gets completely unhinged on this one so I'm so hyped)

- something classic. I'm not sure what yet, probably the great Gatsby? After months of reading fantasies, graphic novels and contemporaries I think I yearn for a classic again. I'd like to finally dip toes in Jane Austen tho so pride and prejudice in particularly is in my horizon.

- Interview with a vampire by Anne Rice. Ive tried to read before via audiobook and I liked it quite much just left it aside cause I suddenly switched moods to something more fast paced. I have a physical copy of it now so it'll probably hold my attention more

Look, if the actors are great, I get it, but even THEN when I understand that, why??? It’s just change is great, I love it most of the time, I’m super hyped about the change on Annabeth (let’s be for real, she’s white AND black, her character is one of the most well known characters due to being there since book 1, the lightning theif and staying conssitent throughout the books (not including ToA, but even then she’s mentioned) and longer than Nico, Rachel, Tyson and other characters overall were, the character Annabeth has built herself a title among the fandom due to her actions, that title and those actions do not have to do with her race. (Anyway, I got off track) Nico is well loved throughout the fandom (or if y’all don’t, then I mean me and other people out there somewhere) Nicos appearances in Heroes of Olympus and in Trials of Apollo are what really brought him forward to the readers. Due to Nicos original introduction in Percy Jackson and the Olympians there is a familiar ground for fans when reading both of the following series set inside Rick Riordan’s world. I can see Nico being blonde, and the right actor pulling it off, it’s just I PERSONALLY (plz don’t come after me if our opinions are different) think with all of the more recent additions to Riordan’s world, making Nico blonde should be avoided at all costs unless Riordan decides so, because I trust his judgment, plus the entire Percy Jackson fandom is at mercy, he’s in charge, and gifted us this beautiful world. Anyways, yeah. This was kinda a rant because I need to sleep. Idk. I’m tired. This is not my best writing about my opinion and I’m not gonna revise it and just hope. I may come back to this tomorrow and revise tho.
