The (known) World According to Rome
Came across a funny map of the Roman Empire a while back, and had a lotta fun doing this lil piece!
Quick Historical Notes:
I drew them on here for funsies and to have easily recognizable characters, but I don’t think Germania, Gaul, or Britannia ever existed- it was probably just a case of Rome having face blindness and calling every tribe he encountered “Germania!”/etc. There were dozens of tribes who made up these places, but that’s a lot harder to draw and boil down into quippy remarks- think of these fellas on the map as the “germania/britannia/gaul” of the day lmao
Iberia was probably a similar case too, but I know like. nothing about carthaginian/roman spain wheezes. Whatever the case, Iberia probably didnt represent the whole peninsula!
I had to guess so fucking much with the clothes, ESPECIALLY w north western europe and saba!! take half of this as a grain of salt and do your own research!!!
Close Ups:
(sorry babes you just couldnt fit into a nice big crop 😔)

What are your thoughts on nation generations? Who do you think are like the oldies and young uns of the countries?
Well putting aside the thorny question “When does a nation come into existence?” aside, let’s start with the fact that generations are defined mostly by shared experiences, typically unique to a certain time period, but also to a region and a place. For example, someone born in the US in the 1950s versus someone born in Papua New Guinea in the 1950s have drastically different experiences despite being “chronologically” the same generation.
As a result, nation generations are also unique to regions and times, particularly, big events that defined the geopolitics for centuries to come. It’s also likely that the vast majority of nations don’t fit neatly into a “generation” system, yknow? There are nations that may be chronologically old, but only matured much later, making their experiences markedly different. There are also nations who just weren’t affected as much by the big, generation defining event in question!
Since defining all these generations requires a deeply intimate knowledge of a region’s history and internal dynamics, I’m prbly not gonna know or write abt them all lol- but here’s a few of the most distinct generations I think exist among nations, and a non exhaustive list of their members!
Old as Balls (~2000 BCE and before): China, India, Vietnam, Ancient Egypt/Khemet
Bronze Age Collapse (1200-1000 BCE): Iran, Syria, Yemen, and maybe Ethiopia? (The latter two were much less affected by the Bronze Age Collapse)
Rome Explodes (400s-800s): England, Spain, Egypt
European Imperialism and Nation-States (1800s- early 1900s): Germany, Tanzania, Israel
