There were no obligations to protect the sister. As a hybrid, his duties were solely to Klaus and Klaus alone. There was just something about her though. Maybe it was her beauty or the way she gave him lip, but as a group of angry vampires began to close in on Rebekah, Jared found himself launching straight into battle. 

Grabbing the nearest attacker, he sends them sailing across the room into a table that breaks into pieces upon impact. Before they even have the chance to recover, Jared is on them again with a makeshift stake; plunging the table leg straight through their heart. He doesn’t wait for them to turn gray as he leaps back into action... only to find the other three were long dead on the floor. She hadn’t needed his help at all.
