We were recently on an overnight trip with class and we were supposed to prepare some fun program to do at the evening with the other class that was there with us and we were chatting about it the day before and well...
1: so we have the game ready, right?
Us: yeah
1: and if we had some time left, we can still play this...
2: or we can lock them in the cellar and see how it ends up
Me: or you know, Hunger Games are also a thing
2: that's an amazing idea-

Since we're talking about it--this was the Grammys this year (2024). EVERY table. Had a huge spread like this. that NO ONE ate... just food for a display of decadence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Delp (the person responsible for the boards) put together a whopping 125 boards in 16 hours for the show, with each presented in identical fashion on custom Iler Woods slabs."

not enough people talk about how genuinely hilarious peeta is?? like in the first games when he's withering away by the river, disguised by his camouflage, a wicked infection in his leg and katniss finds him and he says "here to finish me off sweetheart?" or even when he isn't trying, like before the quell when hes telling haymitch and katniss that they need to get their shit together and he says something like "we don't need a bunch of drunkards on the team" when he knows the night before was the only time he had even seen katniss drink or be drunk. not to mention the fact that TWO YEARS IN A ROW he came to his final interview, chatted with caesar normally and then randomly dropped the craziest bomb right before being sent into the arena. pls u guys i love him

Why does no one else see my vision for post-war Effie Trinket. Like that woman does NOT become a civil servant, she does not join the ranks of government service. She is 100% New Panem’s first influencer. She was already having her It Girl moment as the escort of District Twelve’s victors beforehand and now there’s public perception that she was this Hunger Games insider playing the long con to dismantle the system from within and paid this great sacrifice for it by being tortured by Snow’s cadre for her efforts. Which is not true at all because she had No Clue what was going on but Plutarch needs new programming to fill all the hours that used to be taken up by Hunger Games related media so he decides to capitalize on Effie having Her Moment. And with people being allowed to travel between districts for the first time in over a generation and newfound freedom of information, there would a nationwide fascination how other people live. Effie ends up with her own lifestyle/travel series where she visits different regions of Panem and even exotic far away places such as “England”. She’s posting beach selfies on Panemstigram to promote her upcoming episode on lobster fishing off District Thirteen’s revitalized coastline.
She even gets her own daytime talk show at one point. She tries (and fails) for years to get Peeta on the show as a guest. Katniss has never watched a single episode.

- TOP DYSTOPIAN BOOKS -
Well, since I want to use this blog for personal stuff too and not just for requests or stuff concerning my MANY Demon Slayer AUs, here we are talking about some of my favourite books ever.
I love dystopian ones so these three will be very hard-core, I love the Hunger Games, I love Maze Runner, I love 1984 but these three just hit different.
Let's not lose time and let's begin!
Tumblr media
3 - Tender is the Flesh (Augustina Bazterrica)
I decided to start with a book that has arrived in my country just this year, I didn't know about it before and I'm so glad I red it, even if it really disturbed me... do you know what the Promised Neverland is? Well, take it but make it Supersayan. And this is the less disturbing one here.
Plot: Marcos works in the meat industry, he always did but recently a virus started spreading, and animals couldn't be edible anymore so what does the government do? They start searching for vegan replacements? NO! They legalize cannibalism. Marcos has a troubled life, his father has gone mad since this "transition" from animal meat to human meat and his wife left him after they lost their son. He works in the meat industry but he swears to himself that he's not like the others, because he doesn't eat meat.
I know what you're thinking, "but this is a book to bring people close to veganism, it's the whole point"... no, congratulations, you didn't understand ANYTHING. This book is way more complex, this because it's about the line that divides humanization/objectification, and this will be a recurring theme in this post.
This book is full of gore (what did you expect?), graphic descriptions, violence, sexual violence so I don't know if I recommend this book to everyone, it's very short but be aware of this if you decide to read it. In any case, the plot is very interesting and it's very well written.
Tumblr media
2 - The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood)
I'm sure many of you have seen the TV series, I've seen it too and it's one of the few cases I say that the series is better than the book, maybe because the series has a more modern setting and so I can actually be terrified by it.
Plot: the world has been almost destroyed by wars and this caused the birth to decrease to 0, and what happens in America? After a coup a new government is instituted... a totalitarian theocracy where religious confessions that aren't Christianity are banned, let's fucking go, this new country's name is Gilead. In this new world women have an only job: being literal baby machines given to rich families to have children.
This is so damn disturbing because, the insemination thing is wild, the man reads a Bible verse from Genesis, and then he just... does it. It's gross, go check for yourselves, human butchering was nothing compared to this.
We follow June, an Handmaid and we just see how things work in this new... amazing... world... I guess.
Tumblr media
1 - Unwind (Neal Shusterman)
This deserves the first place, I've never stopped reading a book I loved because it disturbed me too much. I wanted to support the author, he's very good, so I bought all the other books from the Unwind distology... but I finished the first one and never red the second one, please tell me in the comments if it isn't as disturbing as the first one so I can give it a chance or not.
Plot: in the USA a second civil war is fought, but that's not a war where you shoot people from aontoher country to conquer it, or to oppose the government (well... kinda), it's about reproductive rights, many discussions, many things but in the end people decree that you can't abort in any case (*Lully already screaming and tearing off her hair*) BUT you can... well... Unwind your child if you don't want them anymore. But just when he's from 13 to 18.
What does unwind mean? Basically you give your unwanted child to some clinics that literally vivisection them (yes, the person is awake during the process BY LAW) and give thier organs to people that need transplants.
Now you can easily understand why this is the number 1 in this list, it's the destructive combo between "Tender is The Flash" and "the Handmaid's Tale".
We'll follow the story of Risa, Connor and Levi (and this last one oh my God, I wanted to punch his family so bad), escaping their fate of being unwind.
And yes, that scene comes, yes, you will see a vivisection, and yes... you will feel physically sick and need to throw up after, you'll probably have nightmares and life crisis. Also because... the unwind isn't exactly one of the "good guys".
Ah, dear pro-life people that care about a bunch of unborn cells and can't distinguish a human embryo from a dolphin embryo... Read this book, then change your mind about other people's body and take choices just for yours, because it seems we're going back and not aiming foward as we should.

Me and some friends were talking about movies we'd not seen and the fact that I'd not seen the Lorax came up, to their horror.
And one of my friends, came at me with a vocal steel chair, and said that I look like someone who'd thirst over the Onceler.
Like, thanks I guess?

I know hunger games is good, I just can't put myself through a sad dark dystopian world where things are sad and dark and suck and everyone hates each other and everyone dies.
Like I could watch the news...

Hii, could you write an angst/fluff with Mike Schmidt x f!reader who is his neighbour and Abby's babysitter? Mike and the reader have feelings for each other and they don't know how to act around each other, specially Mike who acts awkwardly around the reader.
Reader's sister (you can call her Sara) passed away years ago when she had Abby's age —what makes her so affectionate towards Abby and comprehensive towards Mike — and seeing the reader getting along with Abby and helping them with money sometimes makes him wonder if she has pity on them. One day he questions her about it and, even though she denies it, he is not convinced, being rude to her, making her leaving the house and not return for a while. Abby starts to ask for her and, realizing that his actions hurt the two girls of his life, he shows up at her door, apologizing, and, after some confessions, and as the reader talks about how he hurt her, he interrupts her with a kiss.
(Sorry if I wrote something wrong, english is not my first language 🥲 and thx for considering my request)
hi i'm so sorry this took so long, its been almost a year but i kind of died off here 💀 anyways yeah i hope you like this!!
------------------
It had been a long day for Mike Schmidt. Juggling his job, caring for his little sister Abby, and the strange but undeniable feelings he harbored for his neighbor, you, were weighing on him. You had been there for them for months now, helping with Abby when Mike worked late shifts, taking her to the park, and even slipping money into their hands when times were tough. Mike always felt a strange tension when you were around, a mixture of gratitude and discomfort, but lately, something darker had crept in—self-doubt.
You knocked softly on his door, a warm smile in place as Abby came rushing to greet you. “Y/N! she shouted, throwing her arms around your legs. You smiled and crouched down to hug her back, her energy a balm to the heaviness in your chest.
“Hey, Abby!” you said, running your fingers through her hair. “You ready for movie night?”
Mike stood awkwardly at the entrance, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, watching you and Abby with a mixture of warmth and something unspoken. He couldn’t deny how good you were with Abby, how natural you were in their lives. But the more you helped, the more he wondered if you felt pity for them. And tonight, the doubt gnawed at him more than ever.
He swallowed hard before speaking, voice tense. “You, uh, don’t have to keep doing this, you know?”
You looked up, confused. “Doing what?”
“Helping us out. Watching Abby. Giving us money.” His voice hardened, and he dropped his gaze, hands fidgeting. “I don’t want you feeling like you owe us anything… or like you’re doing this out of pity.”
Your heart sank, but you stood up, brushing off your jeans, Abby still holding onto your hand. “Mike… it’s not pity. I care about you both—”
“Yeah?” Mike interrupted, his tone sharper than he intended. “It sure feels like pity. Maybe you feel sorry for the girl with no mom or the guy who can’t get his life together.”
His words hit you like a slap. You blinked, trying to compose yourself, feeling a sting behind your eyes. “Is that really what you think?”
Mike’s jaw clenched, his body tense. “I don’t know what to think anymore.”
Hurt bloomed in your chest. You wanted to tell him why you were so attached to Abby, why you couldn’t help but be there for her, but his words cut too deep. You took a breath and stepped back, feeling a tear slip down your cheek. “You think this is pity? Fine. I’ll stay out of your way.”
Without another word, you turned and walked out, Abby’s confused gaze following you as Mike just stood there, frozen. The door closed behind you with a finality that made Mike’s stomach drop.
The days that followed were quiet. Too quiet.
Abby asked about you constantly, her little voice laced with confusion and sadness. “When is Y/N coming back?”
Mike didn’t have an answer. Every time she asked, guilt twisted tighter in his chest. He had pushed you away, let his own insecurities lash out at the one person who had been a constant light in their lives. And in doing so, he had hurt not only you, but Abby as well.
It wasn’t long before he realized he had to make things right.
Standing at your front door, Mike took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. He raised his hand to knock, then hesitated. What if you didn’t want to see him? What if he had messed things up beyond repair? But then he thought of Abby’s sad eyes, and how much he missed you too, and before he could second-guess himself again, he knocked.
You opened the door, surprise flickering across your face when you saw him standing there, looking like he hadn’t slept in days.
“Mike?” Your voice was soft, wary.
“Hey,” he said awkwardly, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I, uh… I’m sorry. For what I said. I didn’t mean it.”
You frowned, crossing your arms. “It sure seemed like you meant it.”
He winced at your words, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “I… I didn’t. I just… I’m not good at this, okay? I don’t know how to act around you.” He looked at you, his eyes filled with vulnerability. “You’ve been nothing but kind to us, and I twisted it into something ugly because… because I’m scared.”
“Scared?” you echoed, confusion and hurt still laced in your voice.
“Yeah,” he admitted. “Scared that maybe you’d realize I’m not worth it. That Abby’s not worth it. That we’re just… too much.” His voice cracked slightly, and he looked away.
You softened, stepping closer to him. “Mike… I don’t help you because I pity you. I help you because I care. You’re worth it. Both of you.”
For a moment, silence hung between you. Then you spoke, your voice quiet but firm. “But you hurt me. What you said… it made me feel like all the time I’ve spent with you, with Abby… it didn’t matter.”
“I know,” he whispered. “I’m sorry. I just… I don’t know what to do with these feelings.”
“What feelings?” you asked, your heart pounding as you took another step toward him.
Mike looked up, meeting your gaze. His eyes were full of something raw, something you hadn’t quite seen before. “These feelings I have for you. They scare me. I don’t know how to be… this. I don’t know how to let someone in.”
Your breath caught in your throat, your heart hammering in your chest. “Mike, you—”
But before you could finish, he stepped forward, closing the distance between you, and pressed his lips to yours. The kiss was soft, tentative at first, as if he wasn’t sure he had the right, but then it deepened, filled with all the things he hadn’t been able to say. All the fear, all the longing, all the hope.
When you finally pulled away, you were both breathless. He rested his forehead against yours, his eyes closed.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered again. “I don’t want to push you away. I need you.”
You smiled softly, your heart full as you cupped his face. “I’m not going anywhere, Mike. But you need to let me in.”
He nodded, his eyes full of unspoken promises. And for the first time in a long time, you both felt like you were exactly where you were supposed to be.

we didn't need a haymitch related book. we don't need anything related to his story unless suzanne is actively mentioning how his win affected future victors, how they set up hiding what he did, and how his family were murdered.
catching fire chp. 14 follows the exact experience of his reaping, his interview, his experience in the games. we find out everything we need to know, which is also what gives him more complexity. in mockingjay, haymitch actively tells us what happens to his family, and what it was for. people immediately assuming that we're going to get so much about haymitch's life is stupid, considering that we'll likely get a little info on his family and girl if anything at all, rather than a detailed scope on his games. and making another book to me felt like a cash grab rather than a statement. unless she is going to talk about propaganda like she said she was inspired by, and that has ties to his win and the after effects of that? i could care less. i'll definitely read it when it comes out but the way people had so much when reading tbosas and there were people STILL getting it so wrong?? not cool.

The ending of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes goes so hard, and I need to speak on it lest I combust. (SPOILERS!!!)
I know it’s left ambiguous as to what happened, but my interpretation of the ending is that Snow was paranoid and slipping into that mentality he frequently does throughout the book where he twists the narrative to clean his hands of his wrongdoings. The way that we know Lucy Gray killed so few people in the games, most of whom were already suffering or in self defense, but all of a sudden she’s this monster who was preying on the weak? Or how she’s framed as evil for the (nonvenomous) snake trick against the Mayor’s daughter who literally had her sent to the games? Yeah, Snow was spiraling so hard.
That said, Lucy Gray definitely caught onto what was happening with Snow. For starters, when they start running away, Snow tells her that he has no choice, but tries to cover it with some flattery. Then he obviously fucks up by saying “three killings” were enough for him. The way Lucy won’t let it go is already setting up what’s about to happen. And once they get to the cabin, and the murder weapon is there, and Snow asks to keep the guns, the alarm bells are ringing double time, and she knows she’s got to get out of there. Even if he wouldn’t kill her now, the fact that he could kill “his brother” is enough for her.
Afterwards, I think Lucy Gray is hiding like she does in the games, figuring that she can wait him out, but then he’s got a gun and isn’t leaving—in fact he’s calling out for her. The more erratic his behavior becomes, she realizes she has no choice but to run. But Snow told her earlier that her scarf would be terrible for hiding in, and remembering that, she drops it. It’s not a trap—the doctor later confirms that black snakes are everywhere in district twelve when it starts raining and it was nonvenomous; that doesn’t line up with her wanting to kill him. And the singing Lucy Gray does in hopes that the birds catching her song will cover the sound of movement, and it appears to work because Snow never finds any evidence of her. And she didn’t circle back around to the cabin like he claims she must have—more proof that a lot of this is in his head.
While there are moments where it becomes clear that Lucy Gray has a lot of hidden depths, Snow’s characterization of her feels like a desperate attempt to absolve himself for attempting to kill her. Even his internal monologue is shakey, vacillating between wondering why she’s running and why he can’t find it in himself to put the gun down. And a similar thing happens leading up to, during, and after Sejanus’ death. Snow says he’ll be happy to have him out of his hair, then he’s regretful and never wanted to see him dead, but also, wait, Sejanus definitely deserved it, and in fact it was gracious of Snow to offer him a second chance which he destroyed. In his mind, no matter what, he has to remain “pure as the driven snow.”
