The scent of antiseptic, sharp and medicinal, battled with the lingering aroma of Quinn's last meal – a questionable takeout order he'd insisted on despite Alayna's protests. "You really think that meatball sub is a good idea after getting hit in the face?" she'd asked, her brow furrowed in concern. Quinn, ever the stubborn one, had just grinned and insisted on his comfort food.

Alayna, a whirlwind of anxious energy, flitted around him like a nervous hummingbird. She checked the ice pack on his face, the edges now slightly damp, and adjusted the throw blanket draped over him. The steaming mug of chamomile tea she'd brought him sat untouched on the coffee table, a testament to the chaos that erupted in their otherwise tranquil living room.

Quinn, sprawled on the couch, watched her with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "Alayna," he groaned, his voice a low rumble, "I'm fine. Really. It's just a lip." He winced as he spoke, the stitches pulling slightly.

"Liar," she chided, gently pushing the ice pack back into place. "Seeing you get hit like that… it was terrifying. You were bleeding everywhere, Quinn. I thought… I don't even want to think about it."

She averted her gaze. The image of him face down, the red stain spreading across the ice, the crowd hushed, the concern in his teammates' eyes… it was still lingering.

Quinn reached out and took her hand, his touch surprisingly gentle. "Hey, it's okay," he said, his voice softening. "I'm okay. The doctor said it was a clean split. A few stitches and I'm good as new."

"But what if..." she began, her voice trembling slightly.

He pulled her down beside him on the couch, his arm wrapping around her waist. "What if what, Alayna?" he asked, his voice firm but laced with a tender concern. "I'm not made of glass. I'm a hockey player. This is part of the job." He tried to inject humor into his voice, but his words lacked their usual confidence. He knew the violence of the sport spooked her, and the thought of causing her such distress weighed heavily on him.

"But I hate seeing you hurt," she confessed, leaning her head on Quinn's shoulder.

He held her close, his heart aching at her vulnerability. "Nothing's going to happen now that I'm wearing this stupid fishbowl," he promised, a touch of humor returning. "I was back on the ice in no time. Scoring goals, might I add." A small smile touched her lips.

Alayna fetched him fresh water, making sure he had just the right amount of ice, and checked the time. "Remember, Doc said to remove the icepack after twenty minutes," she declared, placing the cup next to him.

Quinn, feeling thoroughly inspected and tended to, couldn't help but grin. "You know," he said, "I think I might be getting spoiled."

Alayna raised an eyebrow, "Spoiled? I'm just making sure my favorite hockey player recovers quickly."

He closed his eyes, enjoying the quiet hum of sports commentary in the background, and the comforting weight of her gaze upon him. This, he realized, was a good kind of hurt.

He sighed. "It's actually… nice. Having someone take care of me for a change."

She smiled, a genuine sense of satisfaction lighting up her face. "Good. Because I intend to."

He reached for his phone in between the couch cushions. "Look at this," he said, bringing it closer to his face and angling the camera towards himself. "I look like a chipmunk." Quinn winced again. "How am I supposed to kiss you with this thing?"

Alayna giggled, taking the phone from him. "Don't worry, I'll find a way."

She gently placed the phone back on the table and leaned in, her lips trailing a path down his cheek, his jaw, his neck. "I'll be your nurse," she whispered against his skin, her voice a soft caress. "For as long as you need."

Awol is a shamrock macaw! I didn't even know these guys existed but they're very appropriate for her! very colors

Holt is a greater sooty owl!! Salt and pepper birds...

Wanze was given the white throated hummingbird!! I think they're neat lil fellas and they look so cheeky <3

I didn't know there was such a thing as a falcon-like owl but Rene showed me the rufuous owl... and she's perfect for Sonderbar's whole deal. I love these animals they look like they're trying so hard to be not owls.

This marks the guys I assigned myself!! I gave Wasserlinse the Chestnut-fronted macaw because it's also called the severe macaw and is known to be a meaner bird than most of it's type, which I think fits really well with how Linse bites back at protektors especially.

While looking at magpies on wikipedia I found so many wild ones... I gave Dorredt the Sri Lankan blue magpie, it inspired her blue chestplate and I wanted her to match with Kosmos as some sort of blue bird!

For Kosmos I found the bali myna! They're so striking with their blue faces and I thought they were a good pick for a different sort of blue myna! I also ended up picking this particular type because they're critically endangered, so I matched up their uniqueness to Kosmos being a one of a kind prototype!

Now we're onto some ocs I haven't properly introduced yet, they're all part of either the VVH or the VDF (which are related! Port and ship respectively)

Feuerkrote was given tristam's starling, I just liked the red wings and dark body for her. This was hell why are there so many starlings and why are so many of them weird. And not a bird but honorable mention to the bleeding toad which is her namesake!!

Essig, the VDF ship captain, gets the orange breasted falcon! I just thought they were really cool looking birds, and if I remember correctly they're also a smaller breed of falcon, which I just thought was funny. Spiritually itty bitty and full of rage <3

Honig, Essig's adler got Verreux's eagle! No particular reason for this choice either, just thought it was a cool eagle and went well with Essig's choice!

Sera/Hollenhund (name pending) was given the african wooly-necked stork! Again rule of cool came in, but the final reason I picked this stork over the oriental stork (I just thought those were pretty) was due to them not being wetland bound and also due to their fun flight behavior, which reminded me of this storchie's love of open spaces and her energy.

Schrott is a very last minute addition considering she was made very recently (I haven't edited her pic yet. Just pretend she's also got some greying hair too <3). I gave her the white shouldered starling, mostly because of associating the lighter color with greying hair and her age, but I also thought this particular starling was a really fun contrast to Hollenhund's assigned bird since they're mentor and mentee respectively!

Twst Fae Headcanons [Dwarves and Pixies]

(The pixie headcanons also tie into an oc lore, so the girl named as an example is not a character you have missed. Don’t worry)

Dwarves:

Dense bones to protect from falling debris. Thicker skulls to protect the brain.

Their eyes are also BIG compared to a human. It gives them a bit of an uncanny look. Their size assists with seeing in the dark, and similarly to some species, can dilate their pupils on command.

They’re very stocky on average. Lots of muscle mass and more body fat compared to the average human. This paired with the dense skeleton makes them surprisingly heavy.

Adding on to the above, they’re very strong. They can easily carry heavy objects around.

Rather than being specifically nocturnal or diurnal, I think they’d be crepuscular. They’re classified as diurnal fae, but not biologically.

There’s a lot of negative stereotypes about them being like children physically and mentally (basically canon but I think it should be expanded on)

They typically range from ~2’9 to just over four feet tall.

Not similar to the canon fae we’ve seen, they have pretty slow metabolisms.

Their lifespans are shorter than most fae, but longer than humans. I hc 150-200.

They can go quite a while on little oxygen.

Pixies:

A lot more insect like in my hc.

Their irises are incredibly big with no visible pupil. Black is the most common to give that big wet bug eyes look.

Their eyes are also large compared to humans.

Most pixies will have white scleras behind their eyelids though. Shimmer can give the anxious dog side eye.

Unlike the dwarves stocky build, pixies are long and slender. Very little body fat or muscle mass. Not many curves either. Especially since they have no breast tissue in my hc.

Long limbs, necks and fingers/toes.

They’re ovoviviparous or oviparous depending on the size. Smaller pixies will lay eggs, similar to many types of merfolk, with only one or two making it to term.

Some craft pixies will have insect like protrusions on their limbs.

They’re also very flexible for in air movement.

They have a huge height range. They can be a few centimetres to over 3 feet depending on the type.

They live a wide range of lifespans, too. Smaller pixies live similar lifespans to humans, and larger pixies can live for several centuries.

Pixies can’t swim, similarly to their untwisted counterpart.

Pixie dust/fairy dust is partially fae made, partially produced by their bodies. It has similar uses and properties to magestones.

Similar to other fae we’ve seen, they have a VERY fast metabolism. They’re like hummingbirds. They constantly eat high calorie foods because of how fast they burn energy. Adding onto the hummingbird metaphor, their tongues are very long to reach flower nectar.

Pixie diets are high sugar and fat, including honey, nectar, meats, fruits, and milk if they can trade for it. Surprisingly they can digest milk, despite not being able to produce it.

I go with the hc they don’t produce milk because of the fact that Lilia brings up most fae are raised on nectar.

They use the bells because their vocal cords physically can’t produce the sounds used in the common language.

When preserving energy, they’ll switch from hovering with their wings to hovering with magic and vice versa.

Pixies do not have the same amount of rights as humans do in most countries outside of the faelands. In canon, their dust that allows them to function and live properly is trafficked and played off as a joke, and they are attacked and kicked out of their homes for a school camping trip. They’re also referred to as ‘familiars’ and made to do menial labour. Ok JKR.

There’s also canon disabilities in the pixie hollow series that I draw inspiration from!

I have more hcs for the separate types of pixies but that’s for another day o7

New Disyte OC - Bree, Esper of Huītzilōpōchtli (Hummingbird of the South)

Bree was born an esper, but due to not having an esper mother at the time, one of her wings was crinkled in the womb. She was put up for adoption as her birth parents felt as if they could not handle an esper daughter. She was adopted by the Union and a Union Senior Officer, Xanthos (Esper of Oceanus), where she now works at the clinic run by Luna (Esper of Selene). Bree is my first Aztec inspired Esper (yippiee)!! I have latina/hispanic heritage, so this was pretty fun! I also had a lot of fun with her colors TvT

10. Guinevere

Guinevere, the older sister of Ceridwen the current Onmphar of Morbay. Guinevere would’ve been the Onmphar if not for her great grandmother who wasn’t the nicest and actively sabotaged their lives. But this didn’t stop Guinevere from being her little sisters advisor and mentor. She’s able to not just see the visages of the departed but the image of someone once there or on a different plane of reality. She used this to stay in contact with their father after he was put under a procedure by the great grandmother that made him a zombie husk. She bottled her pain and struggles until an incident changed things.

9. Naomi

Naomi was once a human but was brought back by an unknown forger who tried to make a muse without the proper trainer. She’d learn to live in this realm she never knew of before but would quickly grow to love it as it allowed her more flexibility than she could’ve imagined having as a human. She’d marry into a polygamous relationship with a voltic gaiaus named DiAngelo (himbo retriever man) and Hawke (intersex nonbinary, bean). She will carry both her spouses and is a force to be reconned with at PTA meetings. She’s got the patience and constitution of a patron saint but the bite and fight of a hyena.

8. Annalise Ravencroft-Jay

Annalise is a fairly young elem, her mother is from the states while her father is from the elem world equivalent to Romania. She’s a dreamweaver elem and she and her mother create very special webs that resemble dreamcatchers, these webs when hung above the heads of someone’s bed with form beads made of the dreams and nightmares of whoever sleeps under them, but it doesn’t end there as they can be viewed on the catcher when interacted with. Annalise also helps her father with his bookstore that also provides informational literature for those who aren’t initiated with their elem background. I forgot to mention she was born in the late 19th century and is still alive today, her husband is a year and few months younger than her and is around too. Hehe

7. Glenda Teca Gunderson

Glenda, a hummingbird inspired light/forger elem with a radiant smile and bubbly personality. She’s also the newest ambassador and head of weather cultivation for her homeland, being essentially South America. She may have gotten a crush on the ambassador for the north eastern areas who’s triple her height and started dating in “private”… ok that actually happened and they’ve been married for a long time now and have two kids. She’s sweeter than sugar.

6. Constance “Connie” Galahad

Connie is a strong powerful woman who wears a poker face well to lower guards of men or anyone who thinks they can take advantage of not just her but her girls (other women who were kept in a brothel by an awful elem). She can produce a toxin and antitoxin that will act faster than what is known or drawn out. Yes she’s killed a man before and yes it was her pimp, we aren’t dancing around the truth here. She would effectively become somewhat of a mafia boss for the small town the brothel was in and ensure it would become a safe haven for those who are seeking sanctuary and a halfway home.

5. Adelaide Hurley

Adelaide, based in a black and trumpet swan. Her fathers gave her the world and encouraged her dream of dancing for the world. She’d travel with a performance group from town to town gracefully moving across the stage like a winter breeze carrying the snow. She was entranced with the music and would find her way to her husband who was bewitched by her ballet. She struggled for a long time to have kids but her first son was the world to her. She wears a heart of pure gold on her sleeve and doesn’t hide her true feelings and emotions.

4. Grendel’s mom (my version of her)

She’s a scaleless draconic who walks like fog very poise and careful. Tho many retelling paint her as a dangerous mother of monsters, she’s no more human than you or I despite being an elem. she’ll do everything she can to ensure her son’s safety even if it means letting a man sleep with her and take her wealth. Jokes on that man, she’ll steal his wife and please her more than he could. She’s got big ol Owl Lady energy.

3. Diantha Gratia II

Diantha is a queen, literally, she’s calm reserved and holds so much love for her people and family. She’s been married four times, her first two husbands sadly dying doing selfless acts to protect someone or multiple elems. She’s smart and out of the previous rulers of her land she’s made the most impact with her negotiation and alliances due in part to being mom friends with many of the allies (they would all meet up to let their kids play and have brunch, they’re very good friends too and will talk about their spouses and what’s going on in such a genuine way). Diantha wont go down easily and crumble like a flower she’s stubborn and threatening when she needs to. She’s a floras serpent who’s not afraid to spit venom (literally) at those who cross her or her children (she’s a mama bear who will put the fear of god in you if you hurt any of her babies).

2. Beatrice DeLacey

She’s based on an Eurasian magpie, she’s powerful and confident despite having been born with a chronic disease that eventually kills her. She plays coy and aloof to lower the guard of those she knows won’t see her strengths and will turn around and display her intelligence and wit. She’s not weak and will tower over men who try to sweep her. She’ll put them in their place.

1. Aylin Valinroy

Queen Aylin, a sharp and intimidating woman standing at 5’4” she doesn’t reveal her thoughts so easily and masks behind a cold and stern gaze. She met her first husband while preparing for her coordination but only in passing, it wouldn’t be until she was looking for a fiancé that she’d truly meet him. See, Aylin didn’t want to be courted, she wasn’t a prize and she wanted her future husband or wife or partner to know that she wasn’t weak and dainty; so she has her suitors challenge her to a duel. Lucian (first husband) was a semi decorated soldier/guard who was the only one who could match her ending up having to call a draw via a stalemate lasting two days. They were still engaged when while out on a diplomatic matter, Lucian was ambushed and killed while Aylin was pregnant (elem gestation is a topic for later uh ye. Dreamscapers are like kangaroos in being able to pause theirs while it doesn’t affect the embryo)• a war later in the middle of the night an unexpected attack would take place on Amaterasu. Instead of running away and escaping as her staff pleaded with her, Aylin while still in her nightgown dawned pieces of her fiancé’s armor and grab her rapier to fight and evacuate any staff who was still stuck inside. She would encounter the supposed organizer of the attack (the attack is a right of passage ceremony for a certain group of elems, this one is a naming ceremony that will officially acknowledge and welcome the one who’s doing it). They would end up clashing and having back and forth banter that Aylin and this stranger were enjoying ending up in the greenhouse where for the first time Aylin was bested by someone. The stranger realized that he was fighting and about to not just take one life but two and he couldn’t handle it-

The Cardinal

This has nothing to do with any OC's or anything. A convo at work just sort of inspired me.

A man stands in his kitchen - and with his new daughter cradled safely in his arms, he watches the bird feeder in their yard.

It's a busy day. Sparrows dart in and out, pausing only long enough to grab a few beakfuls of seeds before flitting away again. A grosbeak battles for dominance, easily chasing off a red-winged blackbird that is more talk than action. Robins pick at the ground below, content to fill themselves on the fallen meals of their companions and the occasional insect. Every now and then a hummingbird buzzes by - but it moves on, finding the specialized feeder a few windows over.

A new voice joins the chorus of the rest, and from a nearby tree a cardinal swoops down. It lands on top of the hook that holds the feeder, and without much more than its presence it chases away nearly all of the smaller birds. As soon as they've fled, the female flies in - obvious by the fuller reds and golds in her feathers.

But the man has eyes only for the male - for the bright crimson plumage and the proud tuft resting on his head.

"There Patty, you see?" He whispers to his daughter. She watches quietly, and he can't be sure she's really looking at the bird but he knows she must at least see all the movement. He doesn't dare speak louder, or even move enough to point.

"That's your grandfather," he continues, just as quietly, "you didn't get to meet him while he was alive - but he's come to watch over you anyway. So whenever you find a cardinal visiting you, just know that it's your grandpa - come to make sure you're okay."

Patty gurgles, making soft popping sounds with her mouth - and the man smiles, telling himself that she understands. There's a small commotion among the birds, then, and the cardinals both fly away - but the man still feels satisfied. Happy. Protected. And nuzzling his daughter a little closer, he turns from the window and gets to work on her next bottle.

The cardinal flies away. He dances through the air, slips up and down across streams that only birds really understand. His mate trails after him, for a time - but eventually goes her own way. They'll meet up again, of course, once they both return home.

Except that's the moment when a bug enters his field of vision. A tiny heart races, his wings react by instinct, and the small, brilliant bird chases after his next meal.

The hope of a meal dulls his sense of self-preservation - and a little bird, spirit or not, doesn't understand the world of man. He only understands the winds. The hunt. The thrill as the world races past him.

And the pain. Violent and sudden and, thankfully, brief.

The car travels on - it's occupants failing to notice the life that has been dashed against the grill.

Tomorrow, the man will stand at the window. There will be a new cardinal - and he will point with a smile and say -

"See? There he is again."

Alex— These two go off and cause chaos in indoor arcades and buffets. Alex likes to challenge her to grab certain plushies from claw machines lmao.

Billie— The rare moments Alora is feeling generous, she’ll let Billie practice her sfx on her since it’s something she’ll never really be able to do in the real world. They’ll also play some video games but it’s more like Alora watching and being a backseat player whenever Billie messes up lmfaooo.

Echo— They’ll leave base if there’s some sort of utter chaos going on. Go and grab food, make bets about what they’ll find when they get back. Bring whatever leftovers (if there are any) back and then collect whatever money is due to each other.

Kate— Kate will sometimes visit Alora in her greenhouse and just hang out with her. They’ll talk about plants and do some sort of trade every now and then.

— This girl got hobbies alright since she’s in solitude for most of her time. Reading, swimming, decorating, watching what goes on in Earthrealm and Outworld, hanging out with Kung Lao whenever he visits her. She technically doesn’t have to eat but she likes to cook extravagant dishes for Kung Lao whenever he visits.

11) What was your inspiration for your OC?

— So FUN FACT!! Kasiya actually stemmed from parts of Alora that I cut out for her revamp. Originally Alora (in my old fic) had the power to manipulate plants but once I started redeveloping her, it just didn’t fit in with her character anymore. I still liked the idea of plant manipulation so I decided to make a whole new oc and thus Kasiya was born.

— Hummingbird! Truthfully I’m not quite sure why but ever since I started creating her, it’s just what I’ve been picturing.

Ok so, I shit u not, since u said I could pick who to talk about, I decided to use a number generator to pick for me and it picked my Kid Pirates OC LMAOOOO who was inspired by this, really fantastic fic by @standfucker (if I remember right the title is “Rotations” but don’t quote me on that)(also note that this is the crew I am the LEAST familiar with but the most FASCINATED by atm)

So, let’s get into Zella(he/she), my newest OC (like, literally came up with her in the last couple of weeks)! She is a 5’5”, 22-24 spunky lil shit from the West Blue, who loves her crew and ONLY them, fuck the rest of the world. He’s punk (ofc), usually sporting a cropped deep red and green leather jacket, long fingerless gloves, and black tank top and high waisted pants, with boots (a pair she’s had since before the Kid Pirates and would stab a bitch for as they were a gift). Short dark green hair, with two little white tufts that poke out in front of her ears and frame her face. (Im kinda shooting for like, a hummingbird kinda vibe for her, but not like “cute smol, wants some flowers” and more “I will stab u with my beak if u get near my flower” deal. A colorful chihuahua if u will)

Since Zella is so new I don’t have a lot aside from design vibes, but I have some key things

• as One Piece characters tend to have, his childhood? Fucked up. Got dragged around hopping island to island with their shitty parents until they finally abandoned him. He tried to find comfort and friendship with the local kids and it, didn’t go well. Let’s just say the fingerless gloves r there for more than fashion. Once she managed to leave THAT shitty place, Zella found an island home that, while on paper it’s not a good place, there were few people who actually took her in. Until that too was taken, resulting in Kid Pirate Zella.

• can and has climbed her crewmates like trees to get a better vantage point. It’s usually Wire or Killed, Kid in a knee-jerk reaction threw him overboard. Zella has not let him forget about it since.

• Has the filthiest mouth of my OCs, but is not immune to being flustered into place (which happens more often than she’d like)

• will pick the spiciest food and eat it with no reaction (Dive took a bite thinking she could handle it. She could not)

• very skilled at sewing and has helped her crew with fixing and customizing their clothes on many occasions. Do NOT touch her chaotic corner of supplies, she knows where everything is and somehow always knows if it’s been messed with. A l w a y s.

• has two tattoos (atm, may add more later), one in particular being an under chin tattoo of a red star/flower shaped pattern. Does not remember the night it happened, at all.

• always has a knife hidden somewhere on her person. Full body searched? HA u missed the one between her ass cheeks bitch

Anyway, we're talking about your Zella and I love him \o/ What you have so far is fantastic, and it's certainly enough for a full fledged OC, so I don't think you have to worry about that.

And it doesn't take much honestly, sometimes character creation is a long long process, and sometimes they come to us all at once. And sometimes real development happens in the parameters of a story, but you've got her down solid already. I love the bullets and the little personal bits here and there with the crew.

If you're fascinated with the Kid Pirate crew, I gotta make sure you're aware of @swampstew - she's got a Meet the Crew series, and yeah it's based on her head canon of them, but it's a great place to start in my opinion. (I imagine you are if you follow me, I love her Kid Pirate passion, and I bet if you're nice and ask for some head canons she'd share as much as me xD ❤️🥰)

My favorite characters to draw are (oc wise, at least) are Aya, Yarrow, Thai, and my sona (along with another character I won't mention due to spoilers- if you know the bastard, you know) I'm all very happy with their designs and it's fun to draw them in silly situations!! As for a non-oc character, I'd say my favorite to draw is Freminet from Genshin Impact <3

And yes, I have, but that was a LONGGGG time ago! Haven't really done any Fakemon in a while, but I remember I made this little flying-fairy hummingbird regional bird, a grass cat starter Pokemon that evolved into a cheetah inspired grass-electric type (this was years before ScarVio lol), a fire starter chipmunk, a fighting-electric jerboa Pikaclone, and a geode Pokemon that had a mega evolved form where it burst out of its shell!
