i’m so sorry if i seem a bit off or post less in the next week or so — i just found out my beloved 17 years old soulmate cat got diagnosed with bone cancer and he doesn’t have much time left. he lives in my family home with my parents still whilst i’m abroad so it’s double tough because i can’t be with him. i just need some time to calm down and make my peace with everything

Different game to BG3 but this still amuses me:

You encounter worshippers of Bane - they clearly mean to do you harm. The leader of the Banites approaches: 'The Banites demand gold to let you go.' [You reveal that you are also a follower of Bane, and in the name of the Black Hand, demand to be charged less for your freedom.]

Banites try and mug you for walking into their enclave and the party Banite can object: not to the mugging, to be clear. That's fair, but wow is this mugging overpriced. Bane demands you do your maths.

Lily is a fluffy white rabbit who alternates between an anthro form, a talking animal form, and a plush form. She is an age regressor who regresses to between 5 and 10 years old, but sometimes as old as 13. She gets along well with the other age regressors of her system, and when she is regressed to an older age, she sometimes takes care of the younger regressors while also regressed herself. Age regression activities Lily enjoys include cuddling plushes, playing dress-up games, and watching nostalgic videos. It also enjoys video games of all kinds. Their default mood is a happy one, and unless there are external stressors, they tend to make the system happier just by being in front. so im reading Evolution of the Human Brain by Max Bennett, which discusses all of the major breakthroughs throughout evolutionary history, and first of all its just extremely refreshig to have a discussion about the brain and mental abilities that is grounded in biology

but also its stuck with me deeply that one of the first things that the book establishes is that the brains of many other animals (birds, mammals, especially mammals) are really similar to our own. which is huge when the narrative around the human brain is about how much more special and weird it is compared to other mammals

like even the simplest animals share serotonin and dopamine with us! anything after the evolution of corals and jellyfishes pretty much!

and because i interact with animals more than other humans more on a daily basis, i feel like this book really lets me get to know them. i get to learn all the things i have in common with my fish, my cats, the birds outside, the squirrel who visits me, and the more i read the more i think it's such a gargantuan disservice that's been done to other animals the way we've historically judged them to be so much...less than us.

like idk. nothing has driven home for me more that humans are just another type of animal than this book, and that's saying something because i was raised on the idea that humans are animals.

A doe, with such unnaturally white fur that it seemed to be glowing against the darkness of the trees, which threatened to swallow it whole if it stopped moving. It thrashed like a demon, as if it had a fire in its veins, its kicks grazing past the boys around it almost.. purposely. As if it meant to just scare them, not hit. If it connected, Rosely suspected it’d break bone. It appeared to be stuck, one of its hooves caught on a piece of the loose wiring. It froze for a moment, its ears perking up in Rosely's direction. The breath went from her lungs as it turned its head towards them, as if it’d felt Rosely staring. Its eyes had no pupils, only a greyed out milk color that consumed the entire of its visible eyeball.  Blind magick deer. That was new.
