First of all, this book had a banger of an opening sentence. “Kidnapping children is not a good idea. All the same, sometimes it has to be done.” It is one of my favourite all-time opening sentences in any book.

I love the aunts; Etta, Coral, and Myrtle. I love how you can see their close relationship and how they care for one another and the creatures that come to the island. Minette and Fabio were also cute characters, although their parents/grandparents were not so much. But, most of all Lambert’s father was a surprising character. I had expected that he would be a typical ‘rich parent’ character, which he was, but the fact that he was the only parent to actively go searching for his son was a pleasant surprise.

However, without a doubt, my favorite character was the Hum of the Sea. He felt like a character that everyone should have in their life. He was caring yet protective of his son. I loved the chapters where we got to see into his thoughts and that in the end, he decided to go at a slower pace so his son could follow him around the world.

Overall, while I love the characters and the island itself, the plot and story were not my style. I did not like the kidnapping, that happened multiple times, nor how cruel humans were (though I suppose it is a reflection of how humans treat the ocean). But, I would recommend reading this story at least once before judging it.

I like to think the Ferryman would inevitably try to urge V1 into creating something! It often watched them work and seemed fixated on anything from painting to sculpting, to the point of becoming a major distraction for a process they'd become used to being a solo act. They thought placing a canvas in front of it would satiate it.

However, V1, being programmed for war, knowing only destruction, utterly fails to create. Through time and contemplation, it learns to appreciate art, and it finds things it enjoys. But it can't seem to get the hang of actually making something new. It may create a copy of an artwork, but everything from lack of time-earned skill to a more abstract "this is not what I am trying to do (make something new)" train of thought could upset it and cause it to abandon the effort. It'd try, maybe get a few shapes down, pick colors it logically knows are visually appealing together, but it just can't think of anything to make. Eventually, with time, it would, but the first time the Ferryman made it stand still and work, it overheats trying.

So it settles for watching the Ferryman make, instead.

He tells me that any connections of that name to the Vicar of the Healing Church are entirely coincidental. The name is a placeholder, nothing more.

Trafalgar D(azai) Water Law

a story about a Law who becomes very dark after Cora-san's death. Like, really dark. He lives with Wolf, still saves Bepo, Pen and Shachi, everything is exactly the same on Swallow Island. But. But he doesn't become a pirate. He doesn't create a crew with the boys. No, this Law is extremely depressed and unmotivated, he doesn't even have the desire to avenge Cora. Honestly, he simply wants to die and rejoin his family, friends, and benefactor. He turns to alcohol and becomes a little more 'lively' but starts to find the island boring. As such, he still leaves Swallow Island and becomes a wanderer, sleeping with people in exchange for a place to stay and sometimes offering his talents as a doctor. He wanders from island to island, from ship to ship and eventually finds himself on the Grandline. Where he inevitably runs into the Straw Hats. and Luffy immediately goes insane over this guy because omg he's super cool looking, has the coolest tattoos and is funny. Also, Law gets them out of trouble when he gets involved with them, proving himself to be very intelligent. and Luffy wants this weirdo on his crew. The Straw Hats are almost certain that this dark and clearly suicidal guy will say no and they are completely shocked when Law simply shrugs and accepts.

Now he's their problem. And soon they discover that this dark and seemingly grumpy guy is a…very active suicide. Jokes, songs and attempts, Law has little or no care for his life, simply living on the edge all the time, much to Luffy's admiration (bc Law would follow him into a volcano just to find out what it's like inside) and the crew's horror. , who is the one who has to keep this guy alive and on a leash, because he is a terrible influence on their already crazy captain

(hes also a man whore(bc if a man looks like Law he has a duty to be one) but that doesn't matter until Luffy gets angry with that fact)

((also, I feel like Law and Nami would be natural enemies lmao. Nami: giving orders and trying to debt/extort Law. Law, absolutely unimpressed and not at all inclined to respect Nami: try me bitch

I always see these posts about Maedhros and Elwing, like yes both leap to their deaths clutching a Silmaril and I adore the foil allegories, but what of Maglor??

My tiktok feed has been playing that one fan Odysseus song, the "get in the water, or ill raise the tides so high all of Ithaca will die" song, and I cant help but just picture Maglor, at the ends of his rope, covered in Ambarussa's blood, the youngest son of Feanor again after spending an untold amount of time being the second oldest, just going still and deadly at Elwing

Hes no Luthien, no half Maia that can pluck at the threads of reality like one can a harp, but he is the best Singer of the Noldor, and depending on who you ask, of all of the First Born. One of the only Sons of Feanor with an affinity for water while the rest burn, but that doesn't mean he can't become a rolling boil.

Once the final breath of Ambarussa escapes their lungs, oh the Scream Maglor will have let go. Just as a drowning person will grasp at anything to keep them afloat, even to the point where they may drown their rescuer just to keep their head above the waves, Maglor’s scream PULLS

All the water surrounding this costal city would Lurch, would rush and flood and crash upon the city walls. The streets, already run red with blood, would become knee deep blood pools. These red rivers would part before him and his echoing dirge, his siren wailing, the bloody waves would lap at his feet with every step he would take up Elwing's tower.

He would corner her, eyes blazing with the same light that she clutches desperately to her chest, to her heart, and Maglor wouldn't care about the Jewel, he's already lost so much to it that if he held it himself he would just toss it into the waves anyways, let it sink to the black depths where it belongs.

No, Maglor would pin her on the balcony, block her exits so all she can see is the blood stained water seeping around his feet, inching towards her, and the furious roar and crash of the raging ocean behind. He would hum, a disarming little song, and the waves seem to surge upwards, reaching towards the tower balcony on beat. The spray of the waves would splatter across her back, would mist Maglor’s face, the salt of the ocean mixing with the salt of his tear stained face. He would look at her, dripping in water and blood, both of his brothers and his enemies, and he would sing one little line, a command more like.
