He read and watched the film adaptations of She's Dating The Gangster, Diary ng Panget, and Talk Back and You're Dead. All the works of Jonaxx, Binibining Mia, etc. He definitely feels nostalgic over I Love You Since 1892 (it's such a MexPiri novel). So many hugot lines in that era!

He also branched out to other genres, like the detective series, Project Loki. I'd like to believe Piri also read one of my favourite (horror) short stories, alyloony's Voice Record.

"Keep Moving Forward" is Easier Said Than Done

Hey.

I saw an article the other day saying Filipinos have an affinity for using english words in past tense even if it's not grammatically (or let's be honest, logically) correct.

(e.g. na-realized, naka-secured, etc. you get it)

I'm not gonna lie, and this is probably going to sound very entitled of me, but it actually is annoying hearing and seeing it. I guess it's fine if people commit these mistakes often, but where it gets on my nerves is when people praise these people as if their english is immaculate. Does that sound elitist? Probably. Doesn't change the fact that it sounds like nails on a chalkboard when people do it.

Corny people will link this "fascination" for using the past tense to another hugot line. As in, mahilig gumamit ng past tense kasi hindi maka-move on sa past. Again, annoying. Does not make sense at all. Also, if that were true then the a Marcos would not be sitting as the President of this motherfucking country. But I digress.

Anyway, that's not the point of this blog entry.

Lately, I have had to confront changes in my life, and I found myself struggling to let go of the past. When we lost Mama, everything that had traces of her in them became even more special and harder to let go of.

Unfortunately, most of the places we used to go with her have either changed or shut down. Throughout the years, Rockwell has gone through changes, with shops closing unexpectedly as well as the new wing that was installed last 2015? 2016?

In 2019, Greenbelt 3 went under renovation; its structure more or less stayed the same but the shops within have since changed. In 2022, Father Jun was transferred to Quiapo and was no longer the parish priest at Greenbelt chapel. Early this year, Greenbelt 1 and a portion of Greenbelt 2 was closed, perhaps for another round of property renovation. Restaurants that have been there for over 20 years closed, some found new homes in nearby places while others moved to a different city entirely.

And then, last Saturday, we were told that our favorite nail spa was closing the doors of its Makati branch. 20 odd years of going to that place, whether it was for a pamper day or for preparing for a big event, finished. Just like that.

These were places where I grew up, where I spent countless birthdays and weekly outings with the family. Now they're gone. And I'm supposed to just let it go.

I realized now that I am a person who tends to soak in the nostalgia of the past and have a hard time letting go of my comfort people and places. Personally, I think that's not a problem, but maybe that's just me. But, this being normal and okay aside, I need to find a balance between looking to the past, staying in the present, and looking to the future. Spending too much time reminiscing can't be good for anyone.

Last Monday, as I was making my way to the office, I was praying about this with tears in my eyes. I asked for a moment to just sit with all the changes that has been happening in my life lately. I need some time to myself to simply get used to where I am. Maybe soon, I'll be the kind of person who has this down to a tee, but not right now. Not yet. Right now, I think I just need a moment to get accustomed to everything.

Reflection: Practicum

A few verses before our Gospel story (Matthew 9:12), Jesus commented to the Pharisees: “It is not the healthy who need a physician but they who are sick.” From there, He went on teaching about fasting, about the newness and the sense of joy that He brought as Messiah. In the midst of all these, a situation developed. Jesus was approached by the village official, who knelt before Him to beg Him to come visit his daughter who had just died. The evangelist tells us how Jesus left all, arose and followed the official into his house. Thus, His words turned into a fruitful act.

Maxims, wisdom sayings, and “hugot” lines are very good. They synthesize for our memory and learnings some essential virtues and values—whether human, spiritual, or religious. They inspire us. One of my favorites in this regard is the seven-volume Mga Tilamsik ng Diwa of the late Social Democrat Senator Soc Rodrigo (1914-1998), who is also a very devoted Catholic layman, lawyer, and politician. His thoughts are practical, poetic, simple yet profound, very Catholic, and very Filipino.

The challenge of life, though, is our readiness to live out and apply these maxims and wisdom sayings. Like Jesus, we have to be able to recognize the moments and events that are opportunities for action. This means we should have an ever open and listening attitude to events and people around us. Never to be too absorbed in our own schedules and preoccupations, but always having that disposition of detachment and tentativeness, being always a believer in life as a mystery and in the action of grace and Spirit.

Chocolate.

Have you heard of the chocolate “Hello”? It is a Choco-Coated wafer with Choco Filled, chocolate bars with crispy wafers and cream filling. And as far as I know, this chocolate has a bunch of pick-up lines for every one bar. The pick-up lines are absolutely amazing and eye-catching.

I also learned that some other people give this chocolate as their confession; sa pamamagitan ng pag-pili ng magandang hugot para sa iyong hinahangaan o minamahal. Ang iba'y sinasamahan pa ng mga bulaklak o teddy bear. Isn't it exciting to be given a chocolate?

Sabi ko pala magkkwento ako. So here it goes..

I’m feeling better naman na. Nasa stage na ng acceptance haha at moving on. Not giving meaning to anything na but still feeling giddy over the smallest interaction.

Last night we met for dinner. Nakatalikod ako sa entrance ng restaurant so hindi ko kita kung parating na sya. Nalaman ko lang na nandyan na nung sumesenyas na yung dalawang kasama ko (na alam na I had feelings for pas) pero di ako tumingin. Naramdaman ko na lang na may bumeso sakin and I touched her face haha to beso back.

She looked stunning as always. Pink looks good on her. We’re seated across each other so kitang kita ko siya. Good talk sa restaurant. After nun, we went to 12 monkeys for Janine’s gig.

Nung nasa backstage kami, pinakita niya sakin yung tiktok video niya about holding it together kasi ayaw nyang may sumilip sa rectangle at sabihing “sana matagal ko nang sinabi sayong mahal kita”. I’ve watched that video. I watch all of her videos. But I pretended I didn’t. Hindi ko alam irereact ko haha so I just said mapapabangon talaga ako niyan at sasabihing it’s a prank!

Tapos nung set na ni Janine, nasa side ako ng stage pero tinawag nya ako at sinabing dun kami sa audience banda. Tinabihan ko siya literally kasi ang taas ng upuan hahaha so tumayo na lang ako sa tabi niya. Out of nowhere pinakita niya sakin yung video ng doberman niya na galing sa photos. Ang cute! Very random. So fucking cute!

Wala lang, sumasayaw lang kami in place. Ang boring ng crowd pero we enjoyed the set. Binubulong niya na sobrang dull ng crowd tapos nagccheer siya kay Janine. Dinamayan ko siya haha I also cheered and shouted and danced.

Nung bandang bridge na ng Hulaan hugot na hugot siya napaka-cute! Sabi ko “pas grabeng hugot yan ah!” The line goes “puro ka amba nakakalunod kang ibigin” I was thinking hayyy para kanino kaya yung hugot niya. Lucky guy!

After the gig we went to UCC for coffee and chill. Kwentuhan about lots of things!! When we get there she explained to me the meaning of 1st wave, 2nd wave, and 3rd wave ng coffee. Smart woman! Then we also talked about TFIOS, John Green, at ang pinakabinabaran namin na topic ay mga sci-fi series. I can feel the excitement in her and her love for marvel and sherlock. Her eyes and voice glow.

Sadly, magsasara na yung UCC and she also has to go kasi may gown fitting pa siya for her parents vow renewal.

It was a great night. I learned something new again.

aspins have a very special place in darlin's heart. sam's cabin in the woods usually have attract lots of them and they never had the heart to turn them away. in a way too, they know what it's like to being wild, dirty, street dog.

aspin - a dog breed in the ph that is sort of a mix of other breeds. they often get a bad rep for being street dogs and not having a particular breed.
