You can have one bit of lore explained by Nintendo and given a canonical reason. What lore do you pick and why? Also, one of your theories is confirmed by Nintendo. Which theory do you pick and why?

i've thought about stuff like this way too much and this is probably a boring answer but the Top 1 thing i want them to answer the, for a lack of a better word... hammerspace/warp tech implications and No Fucking Sense making things in the gameplay. By that I mean clothes, special weapons, weapons as a whole, the ink tank and ink getting to the weapons thing. Anything i could ask about the world or inkling biology is ultimately meaningless, because we know enough tidbits to come up with our own conclusions, and you can still draw or write stuff by just coming up with things to fill the blanks, and things like inkling biology are something we are extremely likely to learn more about anyway.

The cartoon hammerspace and straight up magic is something we're NOT likely to learn about (seriously, i doubt anyone will ever ask lol) and it's also the ONE THING that actively makes writing about the gameplay literally impossible because it's a HUGE PLOT HOLE. And no matter what the answer would be, it would have big worldbuilding implications; if the answer was "yes there's hammerspace" then that's a fucking INSANE step forward in the world's tech and would completely change how the world.... works, and even if they said "don't think about it too hard, it's literally gameplay" that's still SOME ANSWER and it would be confirmation that I have to stop just Sitting Here expecting there to potentially be an answer. It would be a nice, good go-ahead to bend the rules a bit and just come up with my own answer because there IS NO ANSWER. So like TL;DR the age-old "why cartoon character do cartoon thing?" so i can finally stop ignoring the existence of turf wars (THE MAIN POINT OF THE WORLD) in my OC lore because they're literally unwriteable without adding in a bunch of shit

As for which theory I'd like to be made canon... this is kind of hard because a lot of my theories are made as alternate, more realistic options for things that are already implied in canon, so there's not a lot that COULD be canon without retconning existing canon, which is something I wouldn't want to do. But if I could pick one that's already kind of not canon (I was going to say the ink tank one, but i don't really care whichever way it goes as long as they make them make sense), then maybe the Kraken being an Inkling's deimatic display... just because we literally never got an explanation for what the Kraken is supposed to be and now they're being phased out of existence forever (seemingly). But also if they never bring back or acknowledge the Kraken then I don't really care because that means I get to do whatever I want with them anyway lol

hey splatheads, your favourite deep cut archivist is back with some horrifying implications to shove directly in your faces.

don't know how many people are aware, but the splatlands is canonically flood-prone, as informed to us through one of the dialogues when Undertow Spillway is in rotation:

cool stuff! with that in mind, let's jump to the past real quick. okay, so we're all pretty familiar with Sunken Scroll 2 (Splatoon 3), seen below. detailing an extreme flood that ravaged the splatlands years ago.

"Long ago, our splatted lands were almost washed away by a great flood. All was presumed lost... until three lights appeared and united to consume the disaster. Thankful for their salvation, the townsfolk threw a festival with three portable shrines as a tribute." If we look closely, the area depicted in the flood is the Crater, as we can tell from the upturned "eiffel tower". Why do I bring up these two tidbits? Well, from the 2nd Big Run, located at Undertow Spillway, there was Splatcast dialogue (when you load up the game during the Big Run) detailing how the floodgates that keep Splatsville unflooded are currently (or at least, at the time were) broken. This is how Undertow Spillway was vulnerable to being flooded itself in the first place, and means that if Splatsville WERE to flood, there'd be no surefire way to drain the water - and Splatsville would likely suffer irreparable damage.

With the latest September 2024 Big Run (some of us are calling it Grand Run, I love that), the Salmonids' target is the Grand Splatlands Bowl, located in the Crater.

Alarm bells should be ringing, as this is the 2nd time the Crater is being devastated by flooding. The clans are still in practice, and the three lights were referenced to be the cause of Hugefry in the climax of Return of the Mammalians, so we're definitely not going to see long-term consequences from this that won't be prevented from the Grand Festival uniting three groups itself.

Still, considering how close Splatsville and the Crater are- the implications are rather ominous. And I'm sure everyone - young and old - in Splatsville is probably feeling it too.

i can’t seem to find. any info at ALL on fuzzy ooze besides fan theories. I was curious if there was any process of mammalisation revealed anywhere?? Im assuming not cus we only recently got sanitisation up to scratch. But is there any important info on fuzzy octos at all? CEO of splatoon lore pls help!!

i was really looking forward to the S3 artbook giving us SOMETHING about fuzzy ooze or filling in any of the numerous gaps in ROTM's story. cannot begin to express how disappointed i was when i opened up the artbook to find that THIS was the only page on fuzzy octarians

the blurb on the top can be boiled down to "why are octavio's troops in alterna? wow theyre fuzzy. do they even have any ego left?" like ok that's just. basic observations and things that were mentioned in promo materials. and we cant say this is like out of spoiler avoidance because the previous page has (also very little) concepts for hugefry and grizz. go girl give us nothing! In terms of dev interviews, the april 2023 famitsu interview has 2 questions regarding fuzzy octos:

----Was it the effects of the fuzzy ooze that caused the Octarians in Alterna to grow hair? Inoue: under the effects of the fuzzy ooze, they're on the verge of becoming mammals.  ----In the case of the new Agent 3, when they come into contact with the ooze they suddenly grow hair. Are the Octarians supposed to be in the middle stage? Inoue: That’s right.

Within less than a year of Octo expansion's release, we got a few dev interviews and a whole artbook giving further clarification on sanitization, tartar's motives, the octarians in the metro...even though some elements were unclear until side order and some responses were dodgy, there still was something to work with and some gaps filled.

in the two years since ROTM we got uh. the one dev interview, which, while that did explain a few things with alterna and smallfry, gave us Nothing about fuzzification or mammalization. whatever it's called. aside from those 2 answers above. is the process reversible? how did grizz get all those troops? why is there an octoplush track that uses dedf1sh's naming scheme? oh yeah, and literally nothing about ORCA or any expansion on grizz's character in ROTM. ORCA goes completely unmentioned in the artbook. hello. im getting side tracked.

and before we couldve gotten another chance for answers on ROTM, side order came out, and all focus in terms of splatoon's story got directed towards that.

I will be genuinely surprised if bancalawalker gives us anything on ROTM since that's seems to be the side order/later update artbook my only hope is that, since there's some suspicious things unanswered for about lil judd and grizzco, maybe, hard maybe, the fuzzy octarians could be addressed in any capacity again, like how side order expanded on OE? But idk it seemed like ROTM was a way to just wrap up the squidbeak saga and they could just Not mention it again lol. one last thing. these amped octostamps, an enemy introduced in rotm, have full 3d renders. notice a uh. lack of fur.

or another wacky thing. is how the only artwork we have of an octarian (non octoling) in the tableturf style is a normal non fuzzy octotrooper.

my Game Theory is that. i think rotm had some... late in development decisions in terms of story direction, with the fuzzy octarians being one of those later decisions.
