Skyhold Conversation: Here Lies the Abyss
Warden Loghain
Skyhold Masterpost Related Quest: Here Lies the Abyss
The PC can speak to Loghain up on the battlements.
Speaking to Loghain before the Western Approach: Loghain: If we wish to stop my fellow Wardens, we should get to their ritual tower in the Western Approach.
Speaking to Loghain after the Western Approach: Loghain: Did Hawke tell you? We tracked Erimond to Adamant Fortress. Idiots. So devoted to their own cause they abandoned all common sense.
—
Loghain: Yes?
1 - Dialogue options:
Investigate (after Western Approach): How did this happen? [2]
Investigate: How did you join the Wardens? [3]
Investigate (after Western Approach): Tell me about Clarel. [4]
Investigate: What do the Wardens know? [5]
Investigate (Hero of Ferelden survived): What of the Hero of Ferelden? [6]
General: Goodbye. [7]
2 - Investigate: How did this happen? PC: How could the Wardens do this? What did the Warden-Commander tell them? Loghain: Clarel said we were making the hard decisions necessary to fight future blights. Wardens do what is necessary to stop the darkspawn. We’re the only ones who truly can. It’s a burden few can imagine. Although, with that mark on your hand, perhaps you can. [back to 1]
3 - Investigate: How did you join the Wardens? PC: I heard something of what happened in Ferelden. How is it you weren’t executed? Loghain: When your mistakes are public, everyone feels they have the right to a personal apology. In the final hours of the Blight, the Wardens were shorthanded. They needed every soldier they could get. The rest of my life will be my penance.
Dialogue options:
Special: Why are the Wardens after you? [8]
[Back to 1]
8 - Special: Why are the Wardens after you? PC: How did you end up an enemy of the Wardens again? Loghain: When the Calling began, I searched as much as anyone for an answer. I protested the rituals, but faced little resistance until I began to investigate the death of Corypheus. The Warden mages branded me a traitor and attacked. When I defended myself, Clarel ordered my death. [Back to 1]
4 - Investigate: Tell me about Clarel. PC: I’d like to know more about Warden-Commander Clarel. Loghain: I have served under her since coming to Orlais. She seemed fair before, dedicated. Perhaps that was the problem. I, more than anyone, know the cost of too much dedication
Dialogue options:
Special: Is Corypheus controlling her? [9]
[Back to 1]
9 - Special: Is Corypheus controlling her? PC: Do you think Clarel is acting of her own volition? Loghain: The Calling does not control minds, and I doubt Clarel could fall to Corypheus without others noticing. Whatever mistakes she makes, she makes of her own accord. Hopefully we will learn more in the Western Approach. [back to 1]
5 - Investigate: What do the Wardens know? PC: Corypheus was imprisoned by the Wardens, right? So they must know who or what he is. Loghain: Secrets are a habit with the Wardens. One that’s cost many lives. Some knowledge is too dangerous to share. I knew little of Corypheus, and that was more than most. No one thought that knowledge could be vital. [back to 1]
6 - Investigate: What of the Hero of Ferelden? PC: You said that Clarel was Warden-Commander. I thought that the Hero of Ferelden led the Wardens. Loghain: There is more than one Warden-Commander. Each oversees a region, most often a single nation.
Loghain (HoF rules with Alistair): The [person] you speak of was Warden-Commander of Ferelden, as well as queen consort to Alistair. Loghain (HoF rules with Anora): The [person] you speak of was Warden-Commander of Ferelden, as well as prince consort to Anora. Loghain (HoF does not rule Ferelden): The [person] you speak of was Warden-Commander of Ferelden.
Loghain: [They] disappeared some time ago. It is possible [they] joined the rest of the Wardens, although I cannot say for certain. [back to 1]
7 - General: Goodbye. PC: I’ll talk to you later. Loghain: Of course.

rambling thoughts here, and not to be all doom and gloom, but: i think i saw this coming when bioware announced htla won't matter in veilguard, so in my head i'm not surprised, but my heart is still very disappointed to find out the leak of imported choices showing ~3 decisions really is all we're getting.
i’ve been feeling for a while that every new game from bioware is probably going to aim to appeal to new players going forth, and i’m preparing myself that the choice importations we know them for are likely gone for good. inquisition was very new player-friendly despite being only a few years after da2 (which is fine) but ten years later, 0% of origins matters, 0% of awakening matters, 0% of 2 matters, and ~5% of inquisition matters. ten years from now, veilguard will be old news too, and it’ll be the next new batch of players they’re after. dragon age's proudest feature, its connective tissue tracking your changes between games, is basically a thing of the past, and i'm honestly expecting the same of mass effect going forward.
it makes showcasing varric and morrigan prominently in the trailers feel even worse, and i was already unhappy with how much space they're taking up. i'd guessed it was nostalgia bait, but now that we know they won't remember or mention hawke, hawke's lover, the warden, kieran, the well... their inclusion feels like insecurity that their game won't do well without these characters, but they don't, or can't, commit to expanding on the many variations that these characters can be.
based off of his lines in the trailers, i'm prepared to just be seeing varric the quip machine, who conveniently won't mention any details about hawke, but i'm sure his possible guilt over his role in his friend's death won't affect his personality at all when he's establishing yet another hero in the making; and a one-size-fits-all morrigan who is now the same character regardless of "i will not be the mother you were to me" or whether she drank any interesting bathwater. who cares, it's morrigan in the trailer! she's swooping! you guys like swooping, right? (by this point i fully expecting them to dig out varric's resurrected corpse in 2035 to get people to buy dragon age 5. and the frustrating thing is that it will work.)
i've had the suspicious sense that veilguard was made for solavellan players (and new players) first, everyone else second, and this news is not really changing my mind. i'm not happy, but i'm also not surprised.
#da negativity#dav#super cynical prediction: the previous decisions page might as well be a single question asking 'did you romance solas or not'#because honestly what does the inquistion disbandment really matter on the other side of the world#dragon age spoilers

i am playing very slowly but I have finally reached the conversation with Harding about her times in the Inquisition
and -- i am enjoying the game very much -- but this one thing i am NEVER going to be NOT salty about
they did everything cleverly. there is no reason for me to butt into personal business of anybody at all. i'm a stranger, and the stakes are world-ending, so i don't get to sit around with Dorian and reminisce about his personal life
and it's neat that they are referencing things that are just by default there. i.e. Lucanis saying that the source of the experiments on him came from what the Promisers did to the Seekers, force-feeding them lyrium and creating monsters, even though Seekers cannot be possessed
you can, by and large, get by on shit like that, and it's neat
but what is not neat is having a conversation with Harding that will have zero changes in all playthroughs. she talks about Leliana, and Rook's follow-up is "i heard she's terrifying". really? is your follow up NOT gonna be, "yeah i hear the new Divine is famous for her nugs?" (if she IS divine)
their rebuttal was that they didn't want to invest in cameos and ask voice actors to come back for just 3-4 gimmicky lines. well i don't want that either. Dorian's presence is logical and seamless. Morrigan, presumably, has more role than what I've seen so far. i don't want characters to just BE there for 3 seconds of fanservice.
but Inquisition was alive with resonance. and I'm not even saying the major things like HTLA and Warden Contact. just ambient conversation. just 20 to 30 extra lines of ambient conversation throughout the whole massive game. "oh I heard Lady Morrigan is married to the Hero of Ferelden. i heard she has a six pack".
but more than that: codex entries? the first example that came to mind when the 3 choices were unveiled was the codex entries that take no voice acting to write. they just need to be adjusted for world state input. little stuff, like the Bottles of Thedas collection, where i can find 3 different bottles depending on my world state: for Bethany / for Carver / for unknown Warden.
because I'm running around Treviso, and everyone is very in love with being a Crow, and a "Crow never abandons a contract", and... how is there not just a funny haha codex entry lying around that says "A Crow never abandons their contract -- except, you know, for that ONE famous time" -- a codex that would be absent if Zevran died, but a codex that would acknowledge Zevran's existence and history if he became the constant thorn in their side
so far, i think, (and i'm only like 30%? 40%? in it), this is a very good game, to me. there is so much i am enjoying about it. and it is very replayable, because the choices within it and the consequences are fun
(also the way they did open-world is catnip to me personally.)
but it could have been elevated to truly like UNPARALLELED heights by having ACTUAL continuity instead of this default continuity of only mentioning things that are gonna be factual for every world state ever.
#tag: personal#veilguard spoilers#i am enjoying the game immensely i promise#but this has been on my mind like a minor annoyance#it's a 8 out of 10 for me. solid#maybe even 9 out of 10#idk -- i haven't reached the ending -- ME3 was also exceptional until the final mission lmao#but it's never gonna be 10 out of 10 because -- after more than a decade of making games that REACT to players and have choices carry over#this is just a bit of a downer moment#tag: first playthrough doesn't count :3

I would like the director's cut of Yin's funky little sidetrip in the Fade during HTLA. Please and thank? 💕
Oooo an olde chapter!! "Chapter 60: Oath to Order" That's a weird one. Okay I shall break it down below a cut! 💚
Let's seeee....well, as you well know, the Nightmare's realm/lair was meant to expose everyone's fears. Yin has a lot of fears lol
So kind of a recap: the poor boyo comes to in the very same dungeon as he woke up at the beginning of Inquisition. But there's someone with him - deep of voice and speaking Antivan, though it becomes clear to Yin that it is not the stranger's native tongue. This is intentionally meant to confuse you - who is speaking? Nightmare...or the other entity from the beginning? Regardless of its identity, there is a very meticulous exchange between the Inquisitor and the Presence. It's trying to get something from Yin, but as it goes with spirits and mortals, both parties must be consenting. For an ancient entity deceiving mortals, this should be no issue.
And it isn't. It gets what it wants almost right away, throwing a red herring later in the conversation. It's so stupid and so simple,
"Allow me to pay you a small kindness. May I help you?"
I liked the idea of it latching onto Yin like this, a seemingly harmless gesture to literally help him sit up. The rest of what follows is just...this entity playing with him because it has already gotten its in.
“I could help you.” < now it's just mocking Yin. Lol gotcha silly elf.
❗[[SPOILERS(?)]]❗: Very quickly it begins to exert its influence on Yin's spirit, searching for seeds of weakness within where it can begin nurturing them. This would be Yin's anger, his fear, and other strong emotions. It's not the strongest influence, it's subtle because this creature is clever and ancient, and it's enough to set Yin on the deteriorating path seen thereafter.
You might wonder why this thing acts like it wants to help him but then proceeds to torment him. Stay tuned 😂
I won't spoil too much more yet, because we're actually going to dissect an aspect of Yin's nightmare in a future chapter (I stg it's mostly all connected, I just take forever to post stuff).
Anyway, whatever this thing is, Nightmare or other, I hope it's becoming a little clearer that this thing is/was searching for something.
But back to Yin's "nightmare":
This scene was a patchwork of timelines, so it's a bit all over the place. Yin slips into thinking that it has already been many years since the defeat of Corypheus. Since he has no reason to suspect a certain ancient rebel to appear, Fen'Harel's return is lacking in this vision. In this world, things got better briefly in the world....and then I tried to imply that Yin got power hungry and fell into a deep delusion that everything he did was for the betterment of the world. A classic tyrant take, really. Yin became the monster, failed everyone he loved, etc. The most important part was really just the beginning of this chapter with Yin vs the Presence :3
Useless sidenotes:
Originally, this scene had nothing to do with a dungeon or Yin being tried as a corrupt leader. In the first scene (draft?) I wrote, it starts out from Yin's pov. He is riding a hart toward a lush forest beside Dorian who is dressed in beautiful robes that are a fusion of Tevinter and Dalish. Yin is nervous, but happier than he's ever been. It changes shortly to Maordrid's pov as she and Solas pursue to save him.
In the next scene, they are walking through a forest, slowly forgetting their present and gaining memories of a much brighter world. They were just coming off of an expedition (can't remember what they were doing) but Solas carries a filthy bottle. Filthy, but it turns out it's actually a rare and expensive wine. He offhandedly laments that this is a paltry gift for their dear friend while Maordrid said something about having lost the other gifts in a cave-in or...robbed? and that Yin will simply be happy they made it for once.
Anyway, turns out they're going to celebrate Yin and Dorian's wedding with the Lavellan clan! 🌸🌼🏵 The illusion over Maordrid's mind is only disturbed when Solas expresses affection (this is prior to the romance) and she's like...wait. And goes through this whole conflict of realising feelings, fighting them, etc. Solas is just so pretty when he's happy. But lol this is the Nightmare realm! I can't remember all the details, except that the clan comes under attack and it's a horrendous bloodbath. There would have been a pov switch back to Yin during this where he still encounters the Presence in the woods (during the slaughter) and probably a Green Knight type of exchange between the two. D:
The reason this didn't stick is because I was writing in Scrivener at the time and the bitche crashed on me, corrupted the file, and I lost the whole thing. What was initially a very long (I think 10k) chapter about a wedding with some t e n s i o n between Mao and Solas was then cut down to the 2,500 words that it is now because I lost the motivation 💀
Thank you so much for asking me about this my dear! Sorry you happened to pick a long-winded one 😂 I figured since you'll probably be one of the only (if the only) people to ask, I'd give you a big director's cut lol💚🍄🌻
#it's actually so tempting to write the original scene again. but the temptation to replace the current chapter 60 would be too much i think#i think it would be so good tho 😔#especially the Green Knight thing that I had planned#mogwaei writes#mogwaei.txts#insight checks🎲

is it still ok to ask about your wips? i'd love to know more about the ian/solas inquisition long fic! :)
WIP Ask Game! @rozhevisny
i'm always up for talking about my wips!
the inquisition fic is basically an adaptation of roleplays + unwritten scenes that existed only in mine and joly's heads. if you've read our roleplays (which i think you've read some!) then you'll know at least some of the scenes that are going in it.
since it's solas/ian it kind of crosses in and out with the story we play through in the game. there's a lot of focus on side quests, hidden scenes, agents, and companions of the main game of inquisition (with exceptions, HTLA will probably play a bigger role b/c it involves tamar aeducan and gorim saelac aeducan rather than the in-game wardens). just for example the first several chapters cover things like solas's request to find the veil-orbs, the captured inquisition soldiers in the fallow mire, how the allied mages are trained to seal the breach, etc.
rn it mostly exists as an outline, but i have the prologue partially written and a few lines of the first solas chapter. i shared part of the prologue (written from thora's pov b/c it basically leaves off where the red lyrium fic ends) this last sunday.
#tas talks#my wips#like the red lyrium fic it's prob going to be cowritten so it may be ages before we start publishing#joly has a lot of RL stuff going on so i'm kind of just playing with what i can on my own when the inspo takes me c:

a starter for @lullabyheld ( anders ) !
❝ YOU’RE A SURPRISINGLY HARD MAN TO TRACK DOWN. ❞ an observation, not an accusation; words flowing from between her lips laced with gentleness. eyes study her old friend’s form, as well as take in every detail of their surroundings. he seems to be alright, but then again, mind control & the calling did not always show external signs until it was too late.
HER EXPRESSION SOFTENS THEN; a look of worry finding its place in her eyes. ❝ how are you feeling ? ❞ heartbeat quickens inside her chest. she may not know what is going on with the order, but if her friend is not negatively affected, then she can endure it.
#lullabyheld#( so im thinking of that time period between the wardens starting to act weird and the events of htla.#when hawke told aveline to take beth as far away from orlais as possible.#instead of complying with her sibling's request#beth ditched aveline & left to check up on anders#bc he's her friend + a warden so gotta make sure he's ok !!#she absolutely does not share inq!era varric's dislike of him. )#◦ 「 i am becoming my own ghost. 」 —— v: warden .#◦ 「 lullabyheld / anders. 」 —— ic thread .
