I was honestly really worried they were gonna totally butcher drac for the sake of the premise of the movie, but honestly it didn't actually feel like that as much as I was worried it was which is good! As it turns out it was more of a 'drac sees Johnny as the annoying family member but Johnny is self conscious and interprets as Drac not seeing him as part of the family' thing rather than a 'Dracula doesn't like Johnny and Johnny knows it' thing, which is good.
I feel like it lines up with their characters- Johnny has had too many hint drops at being outcast from his family/home/general society for me to be at all surprised that he's somewhat sensitive to that kind of thing and could easily feel ostracized and believe he's not seen as family when Dracula treats him as annoying, and for Dracula its pretty regular that he assumes he doesn't need to continually TELL Johnny he's family, he assumes that Johnny just knows that and that's why he feels comfortable treating being his kind of perfectionist naggy self with him. Like i feel like I'm not explaining Dracula's whole thing well but the point is he doesn't feel like a dick (cough like he did in some of ht2 cough) theres just miscommunication going on
