I had a feeling that my first set of redesigns for these guys' human forms in HT4 from way back in January 2022 were long overdue for a redo, especially since I've come a long way with my digital art skills since then.

Also, even though it's August, it's NEVER too late or early for some Halloween themed art IMO.

i was only on vivo for a few months so unfortunately i don't have much to show for it, just animated a few shots here and there before i moved on to HT4 (which was my first time being a lead so i had to leave vivo early to get a head start on that)

i'm happy to hear you liked vivo though! a new tool was developed for the 2D animation look so that it could all be done in maya in 3D to make it look hand drawn. i didn't get to work on any of those shots but the folks that did put a ton of hard work into them and they look amazing. it's a shame it kind of flew under the radar because the amount of love and care that went into creating vivo was huge, it's a beautiful movie

10/10 Absolutely Great Writing Hack is where Character A (who has lied/done a bad thing that led them and Character B through most of the plot) reaches a quiet moment with Character B and is about to apologize or make something important clear but CAN’T (a Very Excellent Plot Twist with NO negative side-effects!) because Characters C through Q have now Very Conveniently appeared to make Character A much more of a bad guy than he meant to be and would not have been otherwise!

Yeah Hotel Transylvania 4 made me kinda mad. Not even HT4 specifically, just the trope in general. It’s lasted aaall the way from the first movie and other movies besides and it’s exactly as annoying every single time.

Basically when two characters are not allowed to have The Important Talk, whatever it may be, just for the sake of more unnecessary drama. Whether they’re interrupted by others, or by one of them misunderstanding and cutting the other off, I hate it oh so much because of how jumpy and suspicious of emotional moments between two characters it’s made me. It’s like I can sense when it’s gonna happen now.

HT4 was great overall, of course!

The pacing was the only issues.

Brian Hull was outstanding, can barely even tell the difference.

I’d give it a 4/5, if the pacing was better I’m sure it’d get a higher score. But for the most part it was a nice adventure film, Ericka got a lot of screentime which makes me very happy. There’s Lots of funny faces to come!

I was honestly really worried they were gonna totally butcher drac for the sake of the premise of the movie, but honestly it didn't actually feel like that as much as I was worried it was which is good! As it turns out it was more of a 'drac sees Johnny as the annoying family member but Johnny is self conscious and interprets as Drac not seeing him as part of the family' thing rather than a 'Dracula doesn't like Johnny and Johnny knows it' thing, which is good.

I feel like it lines up with their characters- Johnny has had too many hint drops at being outcast from his family/home/general society for me to be at all surprised that he's somewhat sensitive to that kind of thing and could easily feel ostracized and believe he's not seen as family when Dracula treats him as annoying, and for Dracula its pretty regular that he assumes he doesn't need to continually TELL Johnny he's family, he assumes that Johnny just knows that and that's why he feels comfortable treating being his kind of perfectionist naggy self with him. Like i feel like I'm not explaining Dracula's whole thing well but the point is he doesn't feel like a dick (cough like he did in some of ht2 cough) theres just miscommunication going on

okay well my idea is basically same START of the movie, hotel anniversary party, drac wanting to retire and give the hotel to mavis, etc etc. basically same stuff up until van helsing shoots johnny with the monster ray.

nothing happens immediately until drac shows up to talk to johnny (he failed to escape both ericka and mavis, and they wanted him to go talk to johnny and apologize, etc etc). drac is hit by another ray, and then both johnny n drac are affected, and swap species. johnny vampire, drac human.  big panic, chase around the hotel with johnny wanting to show mavis what happened, drac shooting the ray trying to change them back. one stray ray shot (lol) ends up basically pinballing around that ballroom/dinner hall where the drac pack & the wives (mavis and ericka purposely not in the room at the time) are, them all getting hit by the stray ray (lmao) which results in them getting species swapped.

i know it probably sounds a little weird, im still workshopping how exactly it happens but whatever.

van helsing learns that they need to repair/replace the crystal gem and turn them all back before the swaps are permanent!! i don’t have any specific swaps thought out except i really, genuinely think if eunice was made invisible it’d be so funny.

this idea basically came from just the title of the fourth movie and what i hoped would happen from the title alone before the first trailer was released/plot was revealed. pls tell me what you think!!! i think its a fun little idea. mostly because i think the swapped monster species designs would be SO fun
