A Love Like on the Screen
Pairing: MatsuHanaIwaOi Wordcount: 5283 Summary: Matsukawa didn’t really care much for youtube or youtubers, beyond cute cat videos at least. But Hanamaki did, and since Hanamaki did, this was clearly going to be a thing. Author’s note: This is a Valentine’s Day Exchange Gift for @seijouho ! I’m so sorry that it’s late, I ended up with a flu and completely lost track of the days, but here it is. I hope you enjoy it! It’s my first MatsuHanaIwaOi fanfic ever, and also my first Youtube AU. Hopefully I did it some kind of justice.
Matsukawa wasn't sure why he'd agreed to this, standing around at the airport in the early morning and holding a big sign. It was way too early for him, and he wasn't even all that interested in youtubers. Hanamaki was the one who convinced him to volunteer together at the small youtuber convention, and yet, somehow he got the cozy job of making sure the panels were running smoothly while Matsukawa ended up as the personal assistant of two of the guests.
A famous youtube couple, dabbling in a bit of everything, was what Hanamaki described them as. He had told him their names too as Matsukawa was handed the sign, but honestly he'd already forgotten them. Discreetly he tried to turn the sign to look at the names, when a voice startled him.
"Matsukawa, right?" a deep voice said.
Matsukawa looked up immediately, and before him stood two guys. One short, with a sharp face and holding about three fourths of their bags. He must've been the one who had spoken. Slightly behind him stood a taller guy, with a huge smile on his face and somehow perfect hair even after getting off a flight?
"Uhh, yeah. Hi. Welcome. You must be.." he glanced down at the sign again. "Iwaizumi and Oikawa. I'm Matsukawa, your personal assistant for the con."
Oikawa and Iwaizumi looked amused, and Matsukawa felt the back of his neck heat up. Maybe he could just not make a fool of himself within the first ten seconds.
"That's us, yes. We were told about you." Iwaizumi said, holding out a hand. "Nice to meet you."
Matsukawa nodded and shook first his hand, and then Oikawa's hand. Good thing he had a permanent case of resting bored face, or else he might've reacted to their perfectly manicured nails.
"We've been looking forward to getting to come here!" Oikawa said. "What's on the agenda for today?"
Matsukawa slowly put down the sign he realized he was still holding up, to take out their schedule.
"All of today? Or right now?" he asked, scanning the paper.
"Right now is fine, Mattsun, we have you to keep track of what comes later, right?" Oikawa laughed.
... Mattsun?
... Alright.
"We're headed to the hotel first of all to check you in and store away the bags. We won't have time to go back there until later tonight so make sure to bring with you everything you need for the con afterwards." he started.
"Got it! Lead the way, personal assistant-chan."
"Tooru, why are you like this?"
"Aw, you know you love me, Iwa-chan."
Taking one of Iwaizumi's bags, Matsukawa led the bickering couple towards the car. Taking the opportunity to text Hanamaki.
To: Hanamemeki
i somehow feel tricked
From: Hanamemeki
Not enjoying our guests company?
To: Hanamemeki
you could have told me that by couple you meant the most attractive yet simultaneously the most annoying gay couple ever
From: Hanamemeki
They'll grow on you. :-)
Putting away his less than helpful conversation, Matsukawa saw that they had reached his car. He swiftly unlocked it and stored away the luggage in the trunk with Iwaizumi's help, as Oikawa claimed the shotgun seat. And before soon, they were all out on the road towards the hotel.
--------------
So far everything had gone so much better than Matsukawa had suspected. They had gotten them both into the hotelroom, showered and changed into convention appropriate gear in a much shorter time than anticipated. They even had time to stop and get breakfast on the road to the con, and he had to say that the couple was much easier to deal with after having coffee. Even the fans they met were bearable.
Apparently they were a big deal.
Constantly being stopped to take pictures or sign this and that, Matsukawa realized he had his work cut out for him. Getting these two to all their appointments on time was going to be hell.
Oikawa wasn't bothered though. He was all smiles and sparkling eyes, greeting every fan with undiminished enthusiasm and gratitude. Iwaizumi too, standing next to Oikawa with a grin and signing anything he was handed. Where did they even find the energy?
They finally managed to get away, Matsukawa herding his two responsibilities back to the car and shipping them both off to the convention. Getting their badges passed in a blur, and suddenly they were inside the air conditioned halls.
"Hey, Mattsun. We're gonna make a part of our vlog now, join us!" he heard Oikawa calling from behind him where he was looking at a map of the building.
He wandered over to their little corner, looking at the camera set up in front of them with slightly raised eyebrows.
"Come here," Iwaizumi said, gesturing to in between him and Oikawa.
Matsukawa took his place, looking straight into the camera. This was probably not a part of his job description.
Iwaizumi held up a small paper that said "Take 1: At the convention", and then brought it down just for Oikawa to start speaking.
"Hello everybody! We have just arrived at the convention, and it looks great so far."
"Oikawa is just tripping over his feet trying to see everything." Iwaizumi added.
"What! No I'm not, I'm way more graceful than that. Anyway, we were lucky enough to get picked up at the airport by the most handsome PA ever, Mattsun say hi to our fans!" Oikawa turned to look up at Matsukawa expectantly.
Matsukawa slowly raised his hand.
"'Sup."
"And as you can see he makes even Oikawa look tiny-"
"Iwa-chan!"
"- So if you can't find us just look for him, because he's gonna be keeping track of us this entire weekend."
"Come say hi if you see us! We're so excited to meet all of you!"
"And I apologize ahead of time if we don't have time to talk. I saw a glimpse of our schedule before and there's a lot we're gonna be doing here and a lot of times to keep. Starting to regret your job yet Mattsun?"
Matsukawa blinked at Iwaizumi's question. Was all this rehearsed?
"I regretted it the moment I found out I had to be at the airport at 6 AM." he deadpanned, and Iwaizumi grinned.
"But we're delightful to be around! Or, I am at least, Iwa-chan is a grump."
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes, reaching over to pinch Oikawa's cheek who danced out of the way, leaving Iwaizumi and Matsukawa alone in the frame.
"Well, time for us to be off. Bye everyone, and hopefully we'll see you around."
"Wait! I wanna say bye too-" Oikawa said from out of view and right there Iwaizumi cut off the recording with a laugh.
"Perfect. Thanks Mattsun," he chuckled.
"You're welcome. Clearly I made a huge difference in the video," Matsukawa said.
"More than you'd think." Iwaizumi replied, packing away the camera. "Where are we off to next?"
"You have a panel coming up on how to maintain relationships with your viewers and keeping an active community," Matsukawa said. "Together with Yachi, the Bokuto and Kuroo duo, and Sugawara."
"Suga?" Oikawa gasped. "I haven't seen him in forever! What are we waiting for?"
Apparently the answer was their fans. They were respectful enough to wait while the camera was out, but once it was away they made their way over.
"Excuse me, Oikawa?" a shy voice came from behind Oikawa, and he turned.
A huge smile spread across his face as he saw the two young girls.
"Hello, ladies! What can I help you with?"
"We're big fans of you and Iwaizumi," one girl said, blushing. "So I was- we were wondering if we could get a picture with you."
"Of course! What's your names?" he smiled.
Matsukawa stood next to Iwaizumi watching the interaction evolve.
"He has a way with people that makes them feel special." Iwaizumi said.
"Huh?" Matsukawa asked.
"He seems like a huge pain in the ass when you see him around just me, right? But the reason all our fans adore him is because he makes everyone feel like they're special and important. He's pretty silly, but somehow he's the most caring guy I've ever met." Iwaizumi continued. "Kind of makes you feel invincible."
"Iwa-chan! Come over here, we're taking a selfie with Emma and Kate!" Oikawa called.
"Coming! Sorry, I had to talk to our PA for a bit." Iwaizumi said as he joined the three. "How are you both doing?"
Matsukawa was left on the side, watching them talk to their fans. As Iwaizumi had said, Oikawa was certainly doing something good to the shy fans, but Iwaizumi himself too was giving off a comfortable air. And suddenly their fame made a lot more sense.
--------------
When they finally made their way to the panel, just on time, Hanamaki greeted them backstage.
"Hi guys! I'm Hanamaki, and I'm responsible for the panels here on this stage. Glad you could join us!" Hanamaki shook Oikawa's and Iwaizumi's hands. "Has everything gone alright so far?"
"More than alright!" Oikawa chirped. "Mattsun's been splendid, it's great!"
Hanamaki grinned.
"Good to hear. I was a bit worried that he'd offend you, but since you requested a PA who wasn't a fan he seemed like the best choice."
"So that's why you roped me into this." Matsukawa said.
"Exactly, sweetums." Hanamaki blew him a kiss. "Anyway, we need to get you both over to makeup. Are you prepared for the panel?"
"As we'll ever be." Iwaizumi said. "Where are we headed?"
"Just over here." Hanamaki said, leading the group further back to a door and letting them all in. "Here's the last two."
Oikawa and Iwaizumi walked into the room, looking around. Matsukawa saw Oikawa's eyes widen suddenly, and then he was gone into the room.
"Refreshing-kun." Oikawa stated.
Another man stood up from his chair, meeting Oikawa's gaze.
"Oikawa." he said.
They were silent, staring each other down for a while before both breaking into huge grins and hugging each other.
"It's been forever! Why haven't you come by?" Oikawa said.
"Because I have a life that doesn't revolve around you." Sugawara teased. "And it's your turn to visit me anyway."
"Well, in that case I will. Now it's too late to take it back!" Oikawa said.
"Can you believe those two hated each other at first?" Iwaizumi commented, amused.
Matsukawa laughed as Oikawa turned to them.
"We didn't hate each other, it was a healthy rivalry." Oikawa complained.
"Speak for yourself, I definitely hated you." Suga grinned, poking Oikawa in the side.
"Suga!" Oikawa gasped.
And then they were all shuffled over to their chairs again, to apply the stagemakeup. Apparently different from normal makeup, Matsukawa learned.
"So what do you think about them?" Hanamaki asked. "Quite a duo, huh?"
"Oikawa called me handsome." Matsukawa said, making a face at Hanamaki.
"Well, you are. In a bushybrowed kind of way." Hanamaki said.
"At least I have eyebrows."
"That's rude."
"Sorry, babe."
"It's alright, babe."
-----------------
The panel went off without a hitch. Oikawa and Iwaizumi both looked like they were having fun up on the stage, talking about these things Matsukawa had never even considered would be a part of being a youtuber.
Apparently it was a lot more complicated than just turning on a videocamera and posting a couple of videos.
The rest of the day passed by quickly. Matsukawa spent all of it together with Iwaizumi and Oikawa, and a lot of the time Hanamaki, or Makki as Oikawa had taken to calling him, was there too.
"Makki?" Hanamaki had asked.
"It's a thing he does, giving nicknames to people, please ignore him." Iwaizumi had interjected.
"Hey!" Oikawa had said.
All in all the day was a lot more fun than Matsukawa had anticipated. It didn't feel like work at all. The four of them clicked like they'd known each other for years, teasing and having fun together even in the stressful environment, and at the end of the day they were all tired but content.
"So what was the most fun?" Hanamaki asked when they all got into Matsukawa's car at the end of the day. "Any golden moments?"
"The meet and greet was fun!" Oikawa said. "I love meeting fans, getting feedback on our content and so!"
"I liked the LGBT panel, it's the first of that kind I've ever been in." Iwaizumi added.
"Lunch." Matsukawa deadpanned, causing the two youtubers to laugh.
"On the subject of lunch..." Oikawa said. "Do you two want to go grab dinner with us before turning in for the night?"
Hanamaki and Matsukawa shared a look, before nodding.
"Sure, what are you in the mood for?" Hanamaki asked.
"Anything is fine for me." Oikawa said.
"Same here." Iwaizumi added.
"Same." Matsukawa said.
Hanamaki sighed.
-------------------------
They ended up at a Denny's, late at night.
"What a cheap date." Oikawa laughed. "Denny's of all places, really?"
"This is how he punishes people who won't say what they want to eat." Matsukawa explained.
"Makki, how could you?" Iwaizumi deadpanned.
"I'm gonna look up a restaurant tonight that we can eat tomorrow." Oikawa exclaimed, pulling out his phone. "And it's gonna be the best dinner ever!"
"Who says we're eating dinner with you tomorrow?" Hanamaki asked. "Maybe we already have plans."
"Yeah. Iwaizumi, do you wanna go out and eat dinner with us tomorrow?" Matsukawa added with a lazy grin.
"Sure." Iwaizumi grinned right back.
"Iwa-chan!" Oikawa whined, and all three of his companions burst into laughter.
----------------------------
"Good morning everyone! It's day two of the convention, and Iwa-chan is asleep on his feet as usual." Oikawa talked into the camera.
Behind him sat Iwaizumi, inhaling a cup of coffee, next to him was Matsukawa and Hanamaki seated, eating their own breakfasts from the hotel buffet.
"Why is he so happy, it's so early." Hanamaki said.
"He lives on conspiracy theories and milkbread, he doesn't need sleep like the rest of us mortals." Iwaizumi said.
"Makki and Mattsun are still with us, keeping track of our schedules and doing the boring work. Mattsun, what's on the schedule for today?" Oikawa said, ignoring the peanut gallery behind him.
"A nap, hopefully." Matsukawa started. "You have a Q&A panel today in the afternoon with just the two of you, some more meet and greet sessions, you're guests at a panel about gender norms and you're scheduled for an interview for the conventions webpage."
"Sounds like fun!" Oikawa said, turning back to the camera. "I hope I'll be seeing a lot of you guys today! Approach Iwa-chan with caution though, if he isn't holding a coffee he might bite."
"Oh shut up, Shittykawa." Iwaizumi said.
Oikawa laughed, throwing up a peace sign and winking at the camera before turning it off.
-----------------
Hanamaki split from the group as they arrived to the convention, having a job to do, and left Matsukawa to slowly herd Iwaizumi and Oikawa towards the meet and greet, through several interactions with fans on the way there. After what felt like a billion selfies, they finally arrived to the meet and greet with five minutes to spare.
Matsukawa got to hang around waiting as Oikawa and Iwaizumi talked to their fans, taking pictures and signing things as usual. They seemed like they were having fun, but Matsukawa just couldn't imagine having the energy for something like that ever. Maybe it was easier being two.

--------------------
"Hello everyone, and welcome to the IwaOi Q&A Panel!" Oikawa cheered as he and Iwaizumi walked in on stage to a full room. "For the next hour, we're just here for the sake of all of you lovely fans! Any questions or requests you have, you can ask here. There are two microphones out in the audience, where you can slowly and politely line up, and we'll do as many questions as we have the time for."
"Please keep everything PG13, we don't have an age limit here and we want everyone to be able to enjoy this." Iwaizumi added. "That being said, let's get this started! How about we start with the first person at the right mic from our view, and then we do every other question like that? Alright, hello."
"Hello, Iwaizumi, Oikawa." the fan at the mic said. "I can't believe I'm here talking to you, it's like a dream come true."
"Thank you for saying that!" Oikawa said with a big smile. "We're happy to have you here too. What's your name?"
"Haha, thank you!" the fan said. "My name is Alicia, by the way, and I was just wondering if the two of you are planning on making any more gaming videos soon? I think those are my favorites."
"Good question, Alicia." Iwaizumi said. "We have two videos we already filmed that we just have to edit. I say we, but it's Oikawa's job this time so nobody know when those are coming out."
"I'm working on it!" Oikawa interjected. "There's a lot of work going on, but if you really want to see them I'll try to get it done the week after this con!"
"Which games is it?" Alicia asked.
"It's one episode of us doing co-op in Octodad, and the other one is co-op in I am Bread." Iwaizumi said. "Very comedy based, as usual."
"Yes, thank you for answering." Alicia said.
"No, thank you! I hope you enjoy the convention Alicia! Now, the next question?" Oikawa said.
"Hello, my name is Keith, and I have a question for Iwaizumi." the next fan said.
"'Sup Keith. What do you want to know?" Iwaizumi said.
"Uhm, as a.. stereotypical kind of manly looking guy, how do you deal with others opinions on you wearing makeup?" Keith asked, shuffling nervously around by the mic.
"Manly looking guy." Iwaizumi said, amused. "Well, this answer is probably the one everyone gives but it's all about doing what you want and not caring about what everyone else says. Being out in the public eye and breaking norms will usually end up in people feeling like they need to shove their opinions into your face. But those people don't matter."
"This is a pretty deep subject." Oikawa interjected. "And I know Iwa-chan enough that he can go on about this subject for hours, which we sadly don't have time for right now. BUT, if you're interested in the subject, we're scheduled to be on the gender norm panel at seven tonight, so please come watch us there! Tanaka Saeko is hosting it, and Bokuto Koutaro, Eita Semi and Kozume Kenma will also be there, so it's gonna be something great."
"Alright, thank you Keith! We hope to see you at the panel at seven then." Iwaizumi continued.
"Yes, I'll be there." Keith said, and stepped down.
"Next question!" Oikawa cheered.
"Oh. My. God. I can't believe I'm talking to you. Hi, my name is Ludwig, and I've flown the entire way here from Europe just to see you." the next fan said.
"Oh wow, that sounds like an expensive convention for you then! Where in Europe are you from?" Oikawa asked.
"Germany, and yes, it's been quite the trip. This is my first time in USA." Ludwig said.
"That's cool! Did you have a question for us?" Iwaizumi said.
"Yes, I was. Uhm. My friends back in Germany dared me to do this but, could you two maybe kiss?" Ludwig sounded like he might die of embarrassment.
"Kiss?" Iwaizumi asked, laughing.
"Is that something you guys want to see?" Oikawa asked the audience, being met with a loud cheer. "Alright then! Iwa-chan, we can't disappoint our fans!"
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes, but put one arm around Oikawa's waist and pulling him into a quick kiss on the lips to the cheers of the audience.
"Happy now?" Iwaizumi said as Oikawa laughed, leaving his arm around Oikawa's waist when they stood there.
"Yes, thank you!" Ludwig said, stepping away from the mic.
"So! I guess I'm next. Hello, my name is Alex and I want to know what I have to do to get to make a collab with you guys?" the next person in line said.
"We're flattered by your interest!" Oikawa said. "We get a lot of requests like this, and sadly we don't have the time to do it with everyone. But if you have a good idea, you're more than welcome to send a mail with your idea and a link to your channel and we'll look into it! Send it to our official mail, and use 'Collab' as the subject, and we'll get back to you on the subject! There's a lot bigger chance of a collab if you have a cool, original idea."
"I'm gonna do that then, everyone, look forward to seeing me on youtube with Oikawa and Iwaizumi." Alex said, before stepping off.
"I love that confidence." Oikawa said.
"Same here, next question?" Iwaizumi said.
"Hello, I'm Kim and I was wondering what you're thinking about the convention so far? What's been the most and least fun, what are you looking forward to and will you be back next year?" the next question was.
"Oh! Oh! Me first!" Oikawa exclaimed. "Everything has been great so far! I just love getting out like this to meet all of our fans, and all these other cool youtubers! We've been at the meet and greets, and this is our second panel so far. We have one more today, and tomorrow I believe our fan meetup is taking place so we'll definitely be there! Dress up in your best, because we'll be making a special Vlog just for the meetup! And if anyone of you saw the vlog we uploaded last night, you'll know about Mattsun and Makki, the workers here who have been making our stay incredible."
"Mattsun and Makki are great, they're the only reason we've been on time for everything this convention. Personally though I'm looking forward to the gender norm panel later today, it's gonna be a really good conversation there." Iwaizumi said. "But yeah, we're really happy to get to meet all of you. It's people like you that make all the work that goes into this worth it!"
The entire audience cheered loudly at that, and Kim silently stepped away.
Matsukawa watched the rest of the panel with a burning hot neck, glad that nobody saw him.
------------------
"It's the end of day two, everyone. Me and Oikawa are completely exhausted after today, you guys sure have a lot of energy." Iwaizumi said
"But it's been fun!" Oikawa's head popped into view. "And tomorrow is gonna be even more fun! Right Mattsun?"
"Will it?" Matsukawa mumbled.
"I'm not sure I feel safe with him driving like this." Iwaizumi teased. "Will he fall asleep at the wheel?"
"Nah, that's his normal face." Hanamaki said.
"Don't be mean, it's the only face I have." Matsukawa replied.
"It's a great face Mattsun. Look at me, I would know." Oikawa said.
"You haven't ever complimented my face like that." Hanamaki complained.
"Your face is pretty, but your best asset is your ass." Oikawa chirped.
"Oh my god." Hanamaki replied, as Iwaizumi laughed into his palm.
"You asked for it." Matsukawa said.
"... Maybe we should reshoot this vlog." Hanamaki said.
"Yeah, probably." Iwaizumi laughed and turned off the camera.
"Do that while I drive us to the furthest restaurant in town that Oikawa absolutely had to chose for dinner tonight." Matsukawa said.
"Well at least it's gonna be better than Denny's." Oikawa pouted.
"And Oikawa is even gonna pay for everyone's dinner, so it'll be worth it."
"Yea- wait what?" Oikawa exclaimed. "I never said that."
"You're a true friend, Oikawa." Hanamaki said. "Bless your heart."
"The bro of bros." Matsukawa added, and Iwaizumi burst into laughter while Oikawa pouted.
He ended up paying for them all in the end.
----------------------
Saturday morning found them all together in the hotel restaurant again, somehow even less energetic than the morning before.
"You guys sure are weak, I need to remember not to keep you up past your bedtimes." Oikawa commented. "I'm not even sure I dare to film our Vlog right now, I don't want to scare away our audience with your faces."
"Tooru for the love of God, shut up." Iwaizumi bit. "Just for the remainder of this breakfast. I beg of you."
"Only if I get to pick restaurant tonight again." Oikawa said.
"Sure, whatever, do that." Iwaizumi grumbled.
"AND, Mattsun and Makki has to come too." Oikawa added with a grin.
"Do we have a choice or?" Hanamaki asked.
"No." Iwaizumi said. "Deal with it. And Oikawa, shut up."
The rest of the breakfast passed in blessed silence.
---------------
Honestly, Matsukawa tried to keep track of what was happening during the fan meetup. He really did. But from the second they arrived, Oikawa and Iwaizumi were swallowed by a swarm of fans, and Matsukawa couldn't understand a single thing that was going on.
He stood off to the side as it progressed, every now and then catching sight of Iwaizumi or Oikawa as they swept by. It was tiring just to watch it, honestly.
"Excuse me?" Matsukawa heard someone say beside him, and he looked over immediately.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"Uhmm, hi, sorry if I'm bothering you but you're Mattsun, right?" the person next to him said.
"That's me." he replied, curiously.
"I saw you in Oikawa's and Iwaizumi's vlog, and I was just wondering if you have a youtube channel of your own?"
"Oh, no, I don't. Why?" he asked.
"You just seemed really funny." the stranger laughed.
"I'm really not. Hanamaki has a channel though, it's Hanamemeki. I guess I sometimes help him out?" he said.
"Oh really? I'm gonna check it out then! Also I know you're just Oikawa's and Iwaizumi's PA, but maybe you four should consider making some collabs. Those vlogs with all four of you are really funny." the person said. "But I'm gonna head out now, bye."
"Have a good con." Matsukawa said.
"Yeah, you too!" the stranger replied, waving and walking away.
-------------
"Today was the best day so far!" Oikawa exclaimed as he jumped into the car at the end of the day.  "I'm so sad that it's already over."
"I don't know, any more and I would've passed out standing up." Matsukawa said.
"Honestly everything you say just makes me feel like I shouldn't let you drive ever, yet here we are." Iwaizumi said.
"Well, I'm still alive and I've known him since before he got his license." Hanamaki said from the passenger seat. "I would recommend buckling up though."
"Do we have anything on the agenda for tomorrow?" Iwaizumi asked.
"Nope. Not you two at least, it's the day to just stroll around and take in the con." Matsukawa replied. "Enjoy it."
"Are you still coming with us?" Oikawa asked.
"Uh, sure I guess. If you want." Matsukawa said.
"How about you Makki? Or are you busy?" Oikawa continued.
"I have one panel to host, then I'm free."
"Nice! Then we can all walk around together!" Oikawa exclaimed.
"And we can sleep in." Iwaizumi said dreamily.
"Lazy." Oikawa said, sticking out his tongue.
------------
"You know, I think I'm gonna miss them." Matsukawa said to Hanamaki the next day.
"They really grow on you, huh?" Hanamaki replied, looking at Iwaizumi and Oikawa talking to a group of fans.
"A lot. Do they live far from us?" Matsukawa asked.
"Well, not too far I guess."
"You know, one of their fans said that we should make a collab with them. You think they'd be up for it?"
"You wanna make youtube videos? Man, if this is all it took I would've introduced you to them ages ago."
"Hey, I make videos with you sometimes."
"Yeah, unwillingly."
"Because you're so cute when you're happy."
"Cheesy."
"You know it."
"We could just ask them you know."
"You should do it."
"Chicken."
"You know it."
"But there really is something about them. I'd hate to never see them again."
"... Yeah."
-------------
As the convention came to an end, after another great day for the four men, they were back at the hotel to pack up their things. Matsukawa and Hanamaki were lounging on one bed as Iwaizumi and Oikawa stored away all their things into the luggage.
It was way too quiet for the four of them, and the air was somber. Matsukawa felt... heavy somehow.
"Hey." the silence was interrupted by Iwaizumi. "So, me and Tooru have been talking."
All the other three looked up at Iwaizumi. A glance at Oikawa showed how tense he was, and Iwaizumi wasn't meeting anyone's eyes.
Matsukawa blinked. He could hear Hanamaki gulp next to him. What was going on?
"What about?" Matsukawa asked.
"We've had a lot of fun with you two these days. And it feels like there's gonna be something missing when we go home now, because it feels like we've known you both for years?" Iwaizumi starts, glancing over at Oikawa. "Goddamnit, I'm awful at this."
"What are you trying to get at?" Matsukawa asks.
Hanamaki is looking like he's not breathing.
"Do you wanna go on a date with us?" Oikawa blurted out. "Like. A real date. All four of us."
Oikawa looked like he was gonna throw up. Iwaizumi looked like he might run off at any minute. Matsukawa's jaw hit the floor.
"For real?" he asked. "Are you messing with us?"
"Only if you're cool with it." Iwaizumi added. "We know being poly isn't really common or anything but... We really like you both. So if you wanna try it out..."
"Hell yes." Hanamaki said suddenly.
"I'm in." Matsukawa joined in.
"Really?" Oikawa lit up. "You wanna try?"
"Are you paying?" Matsukawa teased.
All the tenseness had escaped the room in that very moment, and Oikawa burst into a laugh, rubbing at his eyes.
"Of course!" he said. "But then I also get to choose the place."
"I guess we can live with that." Hanamaki said.
Iwaizumi sighed, sinking down onto the free bed into a pile.
"Are you okay, Iwaizumi?" Matsukawa asked.
"I felt like I was gonna throw up." Iwaizumi replied, covering his face with his hands. "I haven't been this nervous in years."
Laughter filled the room, and everything felt light and easy again as they all sat together in a comfortable silence. After a few minutes, Hanamaki broke it.
"So, does this mean we can do a collab?"
-------------------------
"Hello everyone! Today we're going to be doing a challenge, in the honor of Valentine's Day. People have been asking us for this for a while now, so today we're finally doing it! The 'My Boyfriend Does My Makeup'-Challenge!" Oikawa spoke into the camera.
Iwaizumi came into view of the camera, waving a couple of makeup brushes.
"This is gonna be something new, and I hope all of you will enjoy this. So now we present, our boyfriends doing our makeup!" Oikawa cheered, and as both he and Iwaizumi sat down Hanamaki and Matsukawa came into view.
"Hello. We are the boyfriends." Hanamaki said. "I have used makeup before."
"I haven't. This is gonna be great. I bet I'm a natural." Matsukawa added.
The makeup was spread out on the table in front of them, and with big grins both of them dug in.

And I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more
An Asanoya Soulmate AU where Asahi Suffers and has No Idea What is Going On
For @altean-praeila.
The first soulwords Asahi ever sees appear when he is 6, giant blocky letters that simply say Hi Im nishinoya Yuu! on his left arm. The next few messages are also quite innocuous, basic soulmate formalities obviously guided by a teacher’s instructions.
Asahi scribbles back a quick Hi onto his hand, but is prevented from further communication with his soulmate due to the fact that he is currently under the watchful eye of his own teacher.
Once Asahi finally gets home, he properly introduces himself to Yuu (my naem is azumane asahI), prompting a cavalcade of sloppy smiley faces and greetings that are more enthusiastic than they are grammatically correct (not that Asahi knows nor cares that this is the case). They become fast friends.
Over the next few years, Asahi and Yuu chat back and forth through their soulwords, trading childish thoughts and observations such as I’m hungry or Do you think clouds taste like cotton candy? Asahi finds it a bit odd that Yuu keeps re-introducing himself every so often, but shrugs it off as a quirk of his.
When Asahi is 10, it starts to dawn on him that maybe something isn’t quite right when Yuu mentions how excited he is to finally hatch his dragon egg.
At first, Asahi thinks that Yuu is playing some sort of prank on him, but as Yuu continues to insist that Rei (the name he wants to give to his…dragon) is real and pesters Asahi for the name of his own dragon, Asahi’s irritation turns to worry about his soulmate’s grip on reality.
Eventually, head swirling with confusion and concern, he takes the coward’s way out, changing into a long-sleeved shirt and steadfastly ignoring the question marks that keep appearing all over his hands.
The next day, Yuu introduces himself cheerfully once again, peppering Asahi’s arms and legs with doodles of volleyballs and smiley faces. He tells Asahi he wants to become a setter for a professional volleyball team when he grows up. He doesn’t mention dragons at all, and Asahi doesn’t ask him about it.
Things go back to normal for a while, but eventually Asahi starts noticing that some things just aren’t adding up, no matter how Asahi tries to justify them as Yuu being Yuu. One day Yuu will mention how his little sister had kept him and his parents up all night with her crying, then later on in the week he’ll deny that he even has a sister when Asahi asks about her. Sometimes his parents will be together, sometimes he’ll offhandedly mention his stepfather or stepmother, and occasionally he’ll tell Asahi that he’s living with his friend Ryu’s family. He apparently plays soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball, and the clarinet, although he usually comes back to volleyball in the end.
Once, when Asahi asks Yuu how volleyball is going, his skin remains bare for several anxious days before a reply finally comes.
you know i can’t play anymore.
The next day, Yuu is regaling Asahi with tales of how he spiked the ball so hard, it bounced back up and got stuck in the ceiling of the gym.
By the time Yuu brings up the idea of meeting in person when Asahi is 14 and lists his address as ‘Quarter 17, Atlantis,’ Asahi is barely batting an eye anymore. Well, almost.
…Okay, so maybe he’d freaked out a little bit upon realizing that his soulmate was claiming to live in an almost certainly nonexistent underwater city, but. Well. He was allowed to be a little weirded out by all this, wasn’t he? No one else he knew had a soulmate whose life seemingly changed dramatically every few days.
He makes his excuses to Yuu, telling him that his parents are too protective of him to let him go visit someone they’ve never met, even if he is Asahi’s soulmate. Yuu tells him he understands and drops the subject. When he asks to meet again, 2 months later, he’s apparently living in Osaka, although Asahi can’t find the street he’s been given in any map he checks.
Asahi starts high school with no answers and many more questions about his soulmate, although he can never work up the nerve to ask any of them.
At Yuu’s urging, he joins Karasuno’s struggling volleyball team. Sugawara and Sawamura are good teammates, even when their upperclassmen…aren’t, really. Eventually, they become Suga and Daichi, and Asahi considers them his best friends. Even so, he never tells them about Yuu, not even when Daichi shows him the extremely detailed diagram of the male reproductive system his soulmate has drawn across his chest (“he had a biology test today, apparently”) and Suga complains that his soulmate keeps calling him Mr. Refreshing for some reason. Despite occasionally given the scrawlings all over his body (no matter what else changes, Yuu is always a prolific conversationalist) glances of obvious interest, neither of them bother him about it. He appreciates that.
He and Yuu keep conversing with one another. Asahi keeps putting up with Yuu’s wildly fluctuating life circumstances. At this point, Asahi realizes, Yuu could admit he that was a mutant squid in the Witness Protection Program this whole time and he would take it in stride. It doesn’t matter who he is. Yuu is Asahi’s soulmate. That’s enough for him.
This epiphany is mildly terrifying, but also strangely liberating.
Asahi stops worrying about his soulmate and starts worrying about his exams.
I’m thinking of going to Aoba Johsai next year, Yuu tells him one day, as he’s squinting at his math booklet in confusion and wishing he’d taken Suga up on his offer to tutor him. A high school located in the Miyagi prefecture. Despite himself, Asahi’s heart skips a beat.
A few weeks later Yuu informs him via leg-scribble that his family is moving to Los Angeles.
The end of first year and the summer go by in a flash. After the first day of second-year classes, Asahi heads toward the gym for volleyball practice. Apparently, quite a few first-years want to join the team, including a libero who’s been turning heads since middle school. Asahi is quite curious to meet them all.
In his peripheral vision, he notices words starting to appear on his left arm.
First high school volleyball practice today!!! :) :) :)
Asahi smiles and pulls out a marker. Yuu has been excited about volleyball practice all month. Apparently, after much searching (including outer space, if one message is to be believed), he’s finally found the perfect high school team.
Yeah, me too, he writes under the words.
I can’t wait t
There’s a brief pause before several exclamation marks are added over the extra t. Well, typos happen sometimes.
Asahi walks into the gym. There’s a group of unfamiliar students standing together and looking nervous, obviously the first-year hopefuls. As he looks around the gym for Suga and Daichi, he notices one of the first-years turning away from the rest of the group. When he spots Asahi, he smiles and heads towards him, much to Asahi’s confusion.
As the first-year approaches, he raises his left arm, which is covered in soulwords. For a brief moment, Asahi is convinced this kid is going to hit him.
That is, until he notices some of the words written on his arm.
-st day of high sc-
-h me too-
can’t wai-
Asahi stares in disbelief. Then, for the first time in his life, he looks into the eyes of his soulmate.
Nishinoya Yuu smiles up at him and holds out his hand for Asahi to shake.
“I finally found you,” he says.

This is my Haikyuu!! Secret Valentine Exchange gift for @akaashi-tooru! I hope you enjoy it, Nija! ♡
One Shot, General Audiences, No Archive Warnings Relationships: Akaashi Keiji/Oikawa Tooru Additional Tags: Fluff, Valentine's Day, Alternate Universe - College/University, Aged-Up Character(s), Canon Compliant, Gift Exchange, Secret Valentine, Established Relationship
Summary:
"My time is precious, and I'm a pretty busy man, you know?" Oikawa eventually retorted, his voice a little too high-pitched, "And stop laughing at me; I'm seriously injured!"
Feigning to be offended was a thing Oikawa usually did in situations like these, and usually people would let the whole topic slide. However, Akaashi wasn't usual, not at all, and absolutely in all the best ways.
"Shall I kiss it better, then?" he asked after he had calmed down, and playfully cocked his head a little to one side.
