HP WLW BB Going On Hiatus for 2023

Hello all! Thank you so much for your support of the fest over the past four years. We love running this fest, but it takes a lot of time and energy, and both your mods are at busy moments in their non-fandom lives. Unfortunately, we don't have the time to devote to the fest this year, so we've made the difficult decision to go on hiatus for 2023. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue writing awesome WLW fic and making beautiful WLW art!

At the end of her first year a student’s parents come to complain to her about their kid’s grades. Ginny lost her cool in a big way, and McGonagall told her she could only stay if she went to anger management. It’s been tough, nobody understands Ginny, her therapists have been pigs, and now that she’s on her third she’s been told that she won’t be getting reassigned again. Unfortunately the third one is terrible too, and now Linda wants her to keep a diary. As Tonks says it: ��It’s a shame it’s so cruel, it’d be funnier if it weren’t.”

I love deeply imperfect people loving imperfectly and working working working to be better, and the author created such a perfect fic for that. We get these brief hints about her past behavior, and it's so well done. The structure of this fic is just impeccable and bold and ambitious.

every word and detail serves a purpose which is rare for fanfiction where we have a tendency to overwrite. There's enough revealed to paint a clear outline but it makes you so curious about the little details Ginny leaves unsaid.

(I mean - I still want a detailed rundown of every Ginny and Pansy interaction. and I want to read in detail about the end of Ginny and Harry's relationship. And I want every detail about Ginny and Luna. BUT narratively, it was the right choice to just give us these thoughtful and substantive but brief details.)

seriously superlative fic. so ambitiously structured, crafted. so well done. It's a very healing fic. it feels a bit like a productive therapy session. It feels a lot like a productive therapy session.

Hello, i have some thoughts.

So i’ve been searching for new HP ships to obsessed over for the last like, thirty minutes i’d say. Well more like about two weeks, since i read Pansy, Rows, and Mutual Wanking by hpwlwbb, kysprite, violetclarity on Ao3 and have realized i need more sapphic HP pairings in my life.

Now let me be clear, i’m aware that a strangely large portion of the HP fandom has a fascination of pairing canonically underage characters with adult characters that are their parents ages or older. I’m aware that it’s now new, we all have seen some form of it, most likely involving Hermione with characters like Sirius Black or Lucius Malfoy, who in canon are at least two or so decades her senior.

I’m aware of it and i hate it, you all can say “Maybe it’s in the future when she’s of age!” or “Maybe it’s an AU! where they are both of age” and you know what, that’s fine if that’s what you’re into, i like a good AU! as much as the next person so i don’t see a big problem with it.

However.

When i think about the canon, and i know in fandom, canon doesn’t really matter but in this context i think it does, it just makes me very uncomfortable thinking about Hermione Granger, a character who at the end of the series (if you ignore the epilogue) is about 18, getting it on with Lucius Malfoy, who according to the wiki, would be around 44 by the end of Deathly Hollows, and not to mention that Lucius’s son is the same age as Hermione.

Look i don’t care what people are into really, as long as you’re not bothering or harassing other people you can do whatever you want i guess, but shipping minors, even fictional ones, with adults, even if in your fic or fanart or whatever they are of age, is still weird and gross, and i’m not changing my mind on that.

Anyways! This all was a long version of me saying that there’s a weird amount of fics and fanart of Hermione with characters like Bella Lestrange (not even gonna try and spell her name) or Narcissa Malfoy under the femslash tag and it’s not my cup of tea thank you very much.

Hermione is the usual victim of all those pairings which is weird in general and also in canon cause most of the older characters i named are blood-purists and hate her for the basic reason that she’s alive.

So yeah, that’s kind of it. If anyone wanted to know my opinions on this, well here it is i guess. I wanna find some fic rec blogs with wlw pairings so if anyone knows of any please send them my way if you could.
