Summary: Steve recalls the different eras of his life.

Pairing: Post!Endgame Stucky

The room is silent when he looks at all the things belonging to his past. Steve admires his old tactical suit, feeling the past weight heavy on his heart.

On the Fourth of July in 1918 a special man was born. An artist. A loyal friend. A super-soldier. A hero. Steven Grant Rogers.

He lost his parents much too soon and became an orphan. Without Bucky, he would’ve ended up dead in a backstreet of Brooklyn and no one would've remembered the name Steve Rogers.

Without his parents, Steve had to grow up fast. He was barely a teen, but his determination and gumption never got shattered.

At the age of 23, in the year 1941, his life changed once again. He wanted to become an artist when Bucky and Steve heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor. So many lives were lost in an inhuman war.

Steve was small and weak but with a heart so strong and kind that he wanted to do something, anything to change the world for the better.

But, like so many times before, he got turned down when he tried to enlist. While his best friend Bucky immediately got accepted, Steve was rejected.

All of his efforts turned out to be in vain. No recruitment center wanted to accept him. Steve was so strong-willed but too weak for them. Defeated by his own body Steve grew even more desperate.

Two years down the drain, and he still tried to follow his friend to war.

1943, the year his whole life changed again. A new era. A new life. But also, the end of a big part of his life. Skinny Steve, the weak boy who wanted to go to war.

Steve walks past his tactical suit to look at the remnants of the Howling Commando. Sadness grips his heart when he gets reminded that almost everyone he knows is long gone.  

His eyes drop to his hands, and he sighs deeply. If he had the time, he’d mourn the loss of his friends all over again. They are long gone, only a memory in the back of his mind. But he doesn’t have time. There is never enough time.

Not since he met Erskine, and the man saw more in him than a boy with a big heart but a weak body.

Not a perfect soldier, but a good man.

He never forgot Erskine or his words. Steve tried to live up to Erskine’s expectations. Whenever a battle came up, small or big, Steve was there. He gave it all, his strengths, his blood, sweat, and tears.

Erskine was the first one to believe Steve could be more than what everyone else saw in him. He knew the man he chose would never abuse the powers he gave him.

Even though, no one else believed in him for a while. He was a puppet, reduced to a showboy throwing punches at imaginary enemies while Bucky was out there, fighting the good fight.

He moves toward his bike, longingly looking at it. Steve always had a thing for bikes. But this one reminds him of times in which he wasn’t a man out of time. An almost one hundred- and six-year-old man.

Steve looks around the empty museum before he slides his fingertips over the bike.

“Punk, it’s not allowed to touch things in a museum!”

Moments ago, Steve was lost in the past and grief but now his eyes light up. “Says the man stealing stuff anytime he comes here,” he flashes Bucky a smirk. “What brings you here?”

“I came around with my bike to pick a certain birthday boy up,” Bucky mirrors Steve’s smirk. He steps closer to grab Steve’s hand, intervening fingers.

They look at the memories of their past, holding hands.

Steve and Bucky came a long way, but they promised each other till the end of the line…and they intend to keep that promise…

Bucky knew Howard Stark, he was friends with him. A lot of people kinda just assume that Bucky only would’ve known Howard by association but I feel like they actually would’ve been pretty good friends. Bucky would’ve sat in Howard’s lab while he worked whenever the Howlies were at a base for a little while, and he’d be completely enamored by all of the SciFi looking shit and be constantly asked questions and making suggestions for crazy inventions. They’d talk to each other a lot, Howard would drink and Bucky would smoke and they’d just enjoy each other’s company. Bucky was always hinting at Howard making him a new sniper rifle and a few weeks before his mission in the Alps he finally gave it to him. They would talk about their families and their homes and anything else that came to mind. Howard would always give Bucky a secretly heartfelt goodbye before he left and told him he needed him to come back alive and in one piece. When Bucky fell off the train Howard Spent months searching the entirety of the railroad track they were on and never found a body. A couple months later when Steve crashed the Valkyrie Howard spent all his time (when he wasn’t helping the war effort obviously) looking for him because he’d once made a promise to Bucky that if anything happened to him he’d look after Steve and make sure he was ok. The reason Howard calls Bucky “Sargent Barnes” is because it’s what he always insisted on calling Bucky during the war because he knew it annoyed the shit out of him, and once Bucky caught on that he wasn’t going to stop he started replying with things like “My dear Mr. Howard Stark, the worlds most illustrious genius” or “Starky my boy, the savor of all men in uniform” and increasingly ridiculous titles.

1. What’s your favorite genre to read/write?

Reading: angst with happy (or sometimes ambiguous) ending + hurt/comfort

Writing: see above, 5+1, drabbles

4. What is your comfort trope?

That's a tough one...there are many out there. I guess various kinds of Sickfics, with a side of Huddling For Warmth, Comfort After Nightmare.... and I actually like College AUs and [Insert X] Shop AUs. Can't think of more right now.

7. Do you prefer reading/writing multi-chapter works or one-shots?

Reading: It depends on my mood and the time I got on my hands. There's a few multi-chaptered unfinished stories outthere that I still read and will keep reading and I love rereading favorite really long finished stories. But for a while now I find myself prefering shorter stories, mostly Oneshots or 1-5 chapters.

Writing: It's hard for me to write multi-chapter stories. I wish it would be easier for me but I tend to write oneshots, ficlets and drabbles (or drabble stories).

10.  Do you have carefully curated bookmarks, or are they a mess? (No judgement, I promise.)

I generally don’t tag or sort my bookmarks with some exceptions - I have a ‘to read’ list/tag and also one for Stucky fics that take place during the Howling Commandos Era and a Sambucky list/tag. I want to edit my bookmarks soon though, categorize them better.

17. Which fandom(s) do you write for?

Right now mainly Captain America, Prodigal Son and also kinda Supernatural, but also sometimes Les Misérables and Psych.

19. What’s something you so desperately want to write, but you haven’t gotten around to it yet?

Hmm....I’ve always wanted to write a multi-chaptered Howling Commandos Era Stucky story of my own but I don’t think I’ll be able to do that any time soon. There’s also a concept for a SPN story that I’ve had a Word Doc for for around ten years now. The concept idea should’ve been a big project focusing on the saved people or the loved ones of the ones Sam and Dean failed to save, a chapter for every episode. Again, I probably wont ever write that.

Steve Rogers:

Regency Era one shot- Reader is forced to marry Marquee Steven Rogers. He tells her he would never be able to love her since he still loves his first wife who died during childbirth.

Love in times of War part - We get to see Steve and Reader reunited.

Unbreakable Ch 5- Reader goes to the compound for self defense training. She and Steve get closer

Unnamed one shot: Reader was part of an elite military group but she was imprisoned. The Avengers need her help to get into a highly secured building. While she's under the Avenger's watch Steve and Reader fall for each other.

Love Bite- Hunter!Steve Rogers x Vampire!Reader.

Dressed in White- Tony Stark broke reader's heart. She promised him a seat at her wedding to show her that someone else would be deserving of her love. Some time later she meets Steve, who sweeps her off her feet.

New Love/Old Love- (I love a time travel pic) During a mission the Howling Commandos find themselves in the future and they run into their long deceased Captain. Among them is Peggy Carter. She sees this opportunity as a chance to reconnect with her greatest love but Steve has had time to move on. More importantly he recently started dating reader. Will he choose his new love or his old love?

Someone New- Peggy left Steve broken hearted because he wasn't as successful (rich) as she thought he would be. After she left Steve's law office takes off and becomes one of the most successful in New York. Reader works in the office and while working together they fall in love and then Peggy comes back into Steve's life.

Bucky Barnes:

To be yours (request)- Since being freed from hydra's hold Bucky has become reckless, until he meets you.

My little love Chapter 29- I mean come on it's going to be angsty

Is it a crime? Chapter 10- reader makes her first move against Pierce

My little love what if- Younger Steve and Bucky as well as the Winter soldier are pulled into the future and get a glimpse at their lives.

My little love what if- Some magical bring is pulling people from different times into the past, present and future. That includes Sarah Rogers and the Barnes family who get to see how their boys turned out.

Revenge that ends in Love- Reader witnessed the winter soldier kill her parents. She became an Avenger with the hopes of finding him and ending his life. The last thing she expected was the he would waltz into her life. Her plan was simple and easy and then she fell in love with him.

Life, love and dancing with death- Bucky is on the run after being freed from hydra. While in Romania he meets Reader. There's something familiar and comforting about her. The little old ladies that live in their building can't help but meddle and push them together. The truth however is that Bucky is not the only one that's running from his captors.

Baked with Love (request)- Reader is the new personal chef for the Avengers. Everyone loves her, except for Bucky. She's the picture of perfection with her cute aprons and big band playlists and don't even start on the food. Bucky think's she's too good to be true.

Stucky:

The Captain, The Sergeant and The Spy- Reader met Steve and Bucky during the war. Years later Steve frees Bucky and Reader from Hydra's hold.

Wild Hearts- Steve goes to an uncharted island with Stark Industries where he meets Bucky and Reader. The only people that inhabit the island.

Between pages of a Journal- Reader was in a relationship with Steve and Bucky when they went off to war never to return again. Rebecca, Bucky's sister, gives them her journals. The read them to discover what happened to her after they were gone. Then Thanos happens.

Untitled A/B/O Alpha!Stucky x Omega!Reader- Steve begins to court reader and during one mission they run into the winter soldier. Steve had thought his first mate was long gone. Now that Bucky is back he stops courting reader. Both of their hearts are breaking but Steve doesn't want to hurt Bucky too.

Untitled Stucky request- Stucky finds reader during a hydra base raid. She was used to experiment on. They take her with them and give her all of the love and affection she's never had. Some people in the compound bully her which is something she struggles with.

Untitled Stucky x Single mom!Reader- Reader has a 6 year old daughter named Margot who is a super Avenger's fan. She sees Bucky at the park one day and invites him to her dance recital.

Will I see you again part 2- we see the reader finally breaking her curse.

Sam Wilson:

Walk me home (request)- Sam is the leader of a bike gang and reader's best friend since childhood. She also happens to be his weakness something that the rival gang exploits. Things are different after Sam gets Reader back and it all changes again when Sam walks reader home one night.

Thor Odinson:

A/B/O untitled fic(unsure if it will be a one shot or mini series)- Thor is the leader of the Asgard park. Reader is their Luna. Their union was decided long before they had their first heat/rut. Now Thor has a mistress and pushes reader aside, going as far as parading his mistress around the pack house.

Left in the rain (working title) Modern royal AU- Thor and Reader met by chance. They had a short but meaningful and unforgettable relationship. Now Thor must return home to resume his duties as Prince of Asgard and future king. During this time though he keeps running into reader.

Tony Stark:

Freak- Based on the Doja Cat song. The Avengers go out for karaoke night and reader sings just for Tony.

Jake Seresin:

Glad I did it- Mickey asks Jake to be his wingman. He has to distract Plus sized!Reader while Mickey makes his move on reader's friend. What became a loving relationship is almost ruined by a drunken confession.

Ransom Drysdale:

The love we gave away Ch 6- ANGST!!!!!!!!!!!

Multi-Character Fics:

Bucky struggling with trauma from having been a horrible horrible lab rat on top of being in an unforgiving war, Steve struggling with trauma from being thrown into that unforgiving war after minimal time to prepare his new body for all this.

Them needing to find a new footing in regards to their relationship because

There's something broken within Bucky, Steve can feel it, but he's not used to Bucky being like this and he can't bring his friend to talk.

And Bucky? Bucky feels flat out useless, now that Steve has this new body and is cured of all those maladies. Bucky feels swallowed and spat out again, all wrong and dark and ruined, so surely Steve wont need him anymore.

(He’s so so so very wrong).

So yeah, it takes them a careful dance and probably some verbal collisions to find the rythm again, but it’s a testament to their bond that they find it again, and really, there wasn’t any real doubt about that anyhow. They rile each other up, spray fake poision around, compensating stuff left and right, until the sweet sweet catharsis comes along and they fucking communicate.

There’s a bone crushing hug, trembling fingers, a few tears, hushed words and many downward gazes, Sorry, Buckys and Stop it you yucks and It’s gonna be okay, Bucks and Yeah I know Stevies.

And the Howlies watch it all happen from start to finish right before their very eyes when they got out of that Hydra hell, with a mixture of amusement, sadness and annoyance - most of all affection though.

@possibleplatypus Steve painting the howling commandos helmets, yes!!! All the detail he’d put into it, wanting each helmet to be a reflection of the man wearing it. Putting all the love he can’t openly show into Bucky’s, hoping it’ll keep him safe… oof. Yeah I’m into this, will someone please write the thing???

Okay so I've been informed that this is super cool and should be shared so please behold my Great Grandfather's helmet from WWI (my OTHER great grandfather, not the one who was mustard gassed and had perminant laryngitis as a result)

This helmet was painted in 1918 by a French woman for my Great Grandad before he went into the trenches. It's an oil painting, and the woman who did it probably only charged about 50¢-$1, just as a way to make some money and as a way to send the men into battle with something beautiful and unique. The kicker is, my great Gramps caught Spanish Flu before he could actually see any action, and was sent home to either recover or die. He survived, but because of his short deployment the helmet and the painting done to it survived in near perfect condition too.

Whoever the woman was who painted the helmet was a master at her art, and not only is it incredibly detailed but she used the three dimensional surface to full effect, taking the brim of the helmet to make a horizon line for the sunset over the water. And she gave it texture and details that would make Bob Ross proud.

It's 103 years old this year :)

(and yes, the impasto (texture) of the painting feels EXACTLY like how you think it does lol)
