grammar and syntax - scenes from lives
The status of the word as the minimal structural unit, perhaps a morpheme might be
Sometimes when she was alone with him she allowed her english to fall away from the grammmmmmmar and syyyyntax,  to allow the content to slip away from the structure like well cooked chicken flesh that slides off the bone.  "It's  eight-thirty , almost nineness " She might say looking down at him in her white towelling dressing gown, her loose grey teeshirt covered with white stars showing through the gap in the middle, her bare legs, (if she moves in just the right way he will see the inner thigh of her left leg)  and feet  in black slippers.  We need grammar and syntax in a society for without them we make little or no sense,  [you might understand this as you write notes in a meeting discussing the future of (condensation) a man who you are about to condemn for his behaviour in events outside of his control, condemning by your monitoring the harm he has caused...]  Often you have both tried to stop trudging to the end of the world and yet in this you have failed.  Grammar and syntax  have little meaning here for what matters is that they are together.  It is morning, they have been together for twenty years, the majority of the time spent in this house. The private language which is theirs is meaningless to those outside of their dangerous war machine. She will slowly get up,  slowly dress, put on her face, put the new knives, forks and plates into the dishwasher, eat some breakfast, which... i have very little understanding of how i ended up here. She says. Knowing that only her feelings matter in this space, with him.  Only what they talk about matters. That's fine, I really have no idea either, except I have never wanted to be anywhere else, just here.  [The word is the ideological phenomenon par excellence. The entire reality of the world is wholly absorbed in its function of being signs.] They are an island, a small group with their own tropes, "almost nineness" she said, which both he and she understand as containing scarcely hidden meanings and desires that are not shared outside of their island. Later, much later she is waiting for her significant other to arrive,  she is reading the Kluge text in english, words on love, snow and occasional German soldiers fortunately dying at Stalingrad. She wishes she  could be reading a Japanese equivalent,  soldiers dying on the Manchurian coast, being killed by Chinese or Russian  troops. When he arrives they sit  drinking and eating, sipping flavoured vodka shots from cut crystal glasses, and espresso made with the house espresso blend. Eating ratoushki with smoked salmon, herring, and the last few with syrup.  Quietly exchanging the details of their current working situations. It’s cold here so that he feels unable to remove his jacket. They are grateful for the time they can spend together now that their children are teenagers. They are speaking japanese.  When speaking japanese, she always tends to revert to almost being the person she was when she was called Tatsushi Motohashi, she knows he finds this entertaining. He smiles appreciating the truth. Waiting for the additional cappuccino he realises that he had left the phone at work. Seamlessly they switch to english.  Their voices having the accent and dialect of southern england. “I left my other phone at work, I’ll have to get it. The auditors may want to access it...  “ Almost wanting to forget the necessity for the messages to be reviewed. The brass filigree retro lamp that hangs down above the table sways in the gust of wind from the opened door. [...]     Some people sit down at an adjacent table. A man talks of his new business plans with his systems architect. He speaks of the purchase of consecutive freephone numbers, how number 1 refers to the CEO's office. Idly listening she realizes that she has no idea what he intends to sell. Nothing he says suggests that he is involved in making anything, perhaps its another new currency or a financial solution to existential anxiety, perhaps its bitcoin, perhaps its a drug or to give people temporary prosopagnosia... Further along  a bank of schzioanalysts each in a cubical speaking in hushed tones about how to find love.  Eventually tired of speaking they leave. "Criminals," she says, "Even more criminal than I am these days..." She moves the pink newspaper round and directs your attention to the interview with "Sophia Han, youthful investment supremo of Shanghai..." ...
He went down and walked around the floor, asked the receptionist where she sat.  She directed him towards her glass walled office and then watched him move carefully through the desks. The receptionist  always wondered why she couldn't help like watching him flow across the floor like that. She was sitting in one of the office meeting rooms.  The glass door was shut, he walked into her office in which non-decisions are reversed and decisions are made, where indifference was more important than difference. The low background hum of the office floor  will only be heard if the door is open, otherwise it is silence. He will read a few of the reports he brought with him, printed in colour folders, each colour is supposed to convey a meaning,  but he doesn't know what that is as the semiosis of their imaginaries escapes him.  The hardest thing about being in exile in this country is having to live with their social imaginaries. The nicest thing is sitting in a place, anyplace at all,  with her and or the children,  even if she is involved in a complicated discussion with somebody with agency or not  about whether they should do something to  someone or not... whilst he is reading files, files,  the files and wondering if the contents are accurate. He writes notes on the files he has brought with him and sometimes on the contents. (((Yes, No,  and who has the financial estimates for this one? Does it add up? Insufficient lifecycle information, obviously criminal  on the next one and so on))) He thinks he makes decisions on the basis of finance, but since he can never spend any of the money he earns... He has known for a longtime that this is not a job, nor even work because he is not free to leave or even free to be alienated, just as she (( sitting across the desk and saying to the man,  "what should we do then ?")) cannot leave her work. He thinks  they are prisoners who are not quite sure how big their jails are.  All they can do, as they've agreed, is to "never go bourgeois "a phrase he has grown to love even if he is not sure he really understands it. Eventually three of them, the two women and him go for a late lunch in a noodle bar and talk about happiness... Sometime after this, days or weeks later a car stops outside of an office building.  This same  man gets out and waves goodbye to the person driving the car, enters the building and  asks her; "are you're bored yet ?"  "ÿes sometimes, all the time sometimes" Thinking of both the immediate and the longer term. "anyone left to see?"  He is only thinking of the immediate present. "only Janklevitch,  he wants to talk about a new security contract. .." "Let's have tea instead, and then leave..." She looks at him,  thinking of the magic he has brought into her day. "OK " she says putting on her socks and shoes. Writing [yes] on yet another red file. And [perhaps] on the green one.  The red file is about investing in offshore wind farms with a security aspect included.  The green one about something else,  Scandinavian safe houses in Denmark. Her phone rings on her desk as she pulls on a sock, she ignores it. [...] They go to (goto) the rooftop garden. It is surrounded by glass and metal windbreaks, they drink tea to the sounds of the city,  other people on the rooftop are sitting in groups, pairs or alone talking.  They leave and walk north. "Perhaps I should create more fear in their lives..." She says when talking about the  meetings scheduled for a few weeks in the future. "Only if it makes you happy..."He says taking her hand. "When I lived there before, I thought I belonged, and that I was part of something bigger.  I thought that, in some way, I was responsible. Whereas here there are so few people who need us...""Yes, us, we are we.  A small group of people...." They walked westwards towards the underground station, they were following the route of the underground train that would catch shortly. back towards their home.   "Ï like it here, " She said. Watching the people on the platform at Euston S. The train was empty  when they sat on the bench seat at the front of the train.."People aren't automatically scared, afraid  of you anymore. Which is nice, must be nice" He said quietly to her. "Yes. That’s true though  If i was really invisible we could go for a weekend to Stockholm, a week in the starzengracht..." "A good man is not necessarily law abiding..." Words are falling away into meaninglessness.  perhaps though,  she thinks,  its the proliferation of meanings that matters.
([In many stories and fairy tales, it is a prince who takes a girl of low social class, a swineherd or a maid, and later makes her his queen. But love  knows another way. A Chinese schoolmistress from a rural commune near Suifenhe, on the Russian border, made the acquaintance of a Russian who often crossed the border for trafficking purposes and they fell in love]

birds of a feather
Tumblr media
[ ffxivwrite2021 ] ★ [ masterlist ] ★ [ prompt #16 - crane ]
[ illya & friends ] ★ [ 1,847 words ]  ★ [ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ] features ancientechos’ laurelis and two of my other ocs.
crane: a tall, long-legged, long-necked bird, typically with white or grey plumage
though their species varies as much as the colors of their plumages, birds of a feather flock the warrior of light together
“So...” Sigfred’s puzzled expression is framed by the furrowing of his eyebrows as he looks down at the young woman as she tries and fails to protectively shield her newest little companion away from his view. “You decided your aviary isn’t quite populated enough, did you?”
He says little, but the creature stood a good two feet taller than the comparably tiny lalafellin in front of it, the red tuff that crowned its head not helping it stay out of sight and unnoticeable either.
Of course, even if the peculiar thing hadn’t been almost the size of a small hyuran child or had striking plumage, it wouldn’t distract anybody from the fact that the lanky, majestic creature Illya had herded back home was yet another bird - a wild crane hailing from the far east.
“It wasn’t my decision to make.” Illya frowns, shaking her head while she idly raises her hand to rest upon the crane’s head, stroking it gently. “She just followed me back.”
“All the way from Yanxia?” The disbelief in his voice is his understandable, as is the skeptical crossing of his arms. He has trouble believing that a wild animal would doggedly tail Illya thousands of miles away from it’s natural habitat. Though his cynicism quickly fades when his scarlet eyes meet starlit ones, and he is reminded of the supernatural affinity the girl has with feathered creatures when a pigeon casually flutters over and lands on top of her head.
He cannot tell if the lack of the wild animal’s natural fear of people when it came to Illya was more absurd, or the fact that she seemed completely nonchalant about the way a bird was nesting atop her hair.
“Yes.” She answers, voice dipping slightly in pitch to convey her seriousness. “Hien had quite a struggle to chase her off the boat.”
Evidently, the Prince of Doma had failed spectacularly... and as if self-aware, the crane puffs it’s chest out and tilts her head high into the sky.
Next to Sigfred, the bard’s shoulder shakes in mirth, his loud guffaw echoing through the shroud of trees and causing the pigeon that had been peacefully resting on Illya’s head to flee, much to her unspoken chagrin.
“Gods, I’m not even surprised anymore.” Wiping a stray tear from the corner of his eyes, E’lija finally speaks in between choked laughter. “Illya brings home a new bird like every other day.”
Heat spreads across the young lady’s face, though as if sensing her embarrassment, the cockatiel that had been sitting quietly upon the branch of Illya’s wisteria tree flys over before landing on her shoulder, now nudging it’s head against her cheek.
“I-I... I don’t choose to, most of the time at least... Plus, if I take good care of them, there shouldn’t be a problem. Isn’t that right, Orion?”
The cockatiel bobs its head up and down, much to the utter shock of E’lija who throws his arms up.
“W-wha- It can understand her??”
Orion doesn’t spare even a second to pause before turning it’s head to lock his beady, round eyes upon the miqo’te before his beak parts to voice his detest towards the man who would embarrass his master.
“Piss off.”
“IT CAN TALK?!?!” E’lija so very nearly falls off his fold up chair, threatening to take the cups of coffee and biscuits onto the floor with him.  “WHERE- Where did it learn that from???”
“.....Estinien.” Illya frowns, lifting her index finger to poke at the cockatiel’s forehead in disapproval. “He got into a fight... well... argument with Orion. It wasn’t pretty.”
She really should find a way to tactfully ask the man to cut his expletives down... or at least not feel the raging urge to get into a debate with a mere bird, lest she have a harder and harder time convincing people that she was not in fact the one responsible for teaching her pet cockatiel how to yell ‘Thal’s balls’ in a guest’s ear.
Sigfred merely hums, his hands stroking his chin as he narrows his eyes at the crane.
“What kind of crane is it, anyway? We didn’t see a lot of it’s kind back in Doma.”
“It’s a Manchurian crane - one of the rarest species of cranes in the world, I believe. It’s particularly highly revered in the far east... which was why I had to hide her below deck while we were sailing by Kugane.”
His interest piqued, the redhead straightens himself and adjusts his hat before leaning back into his seat.
“Why’s that?”
“Um... well, if I remember right, it symbolizes good fortune, longevity and immortality.”
E’lija has to stop his jaw from dropping so low that it’d collide with the table. Archons, and this apparently rare crane from the far east that represented god given virtues has now taken a liking to Illya so much it’d leave Doma to stalk her all the way back to Eorzea?
Internally, he wonders what sort of karma he must have to obtain such divine blessings.
With a clear of his throat, Sigfred steers the conversation back on track.
“So what now? What do you plan on doing next with it?”
“I-I.... I don’t... I don’t know? She’s stubborn... wouldn’t budge for anyone. I had thought maybe letting her see just how different the shroud is from Yanxia, she’d want to go home but...”
A hearty, more pleasant giggle rings out next to her, and Illya turns to look at a pink-haired miqo’te who she had assumed would be too pre-occupied with cuddling her baby dodo to have paid attention to her conversation with her other party mates.
Laurelis still is, to an extent... her arms wrapped tightly around the plump, round creature as it lets out an occasional squawk. But as usual, when it came to the topic of animal adoption and welfare, she was ever the first to jump to contribute to the topic.
“Why don’t you just adopt her then? You already know how to take care of other birds so... just one more won’t make much of a change, would it?”
That was the exact mindset that would lead Laurelis to have an ever growing household of cats and dogs that she’d find on her travels... but Illya thinks pointing out the irony to that would only get lost to her dear friend.
“Well... I... I have my reservations.”
Illya turns behind to look back at the crane as it stares intently back at her. Whatever that was going through it’s head, it certainly had no intention of returning where it came from... But that in itself was a bit of a problem.
“Manchurians cranes are an endangered species... I’m not sure I’m qualified enough to take care of one, let alone adopt and keep one for the rest of it’s life, when it should rightfully be wild.”
There was a drip of hypocrisy in her statement, certainly. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s had to shelter a wild animal only to be forced into a position of adopting it - and it didn’t just apply to birds either.
But caring and raising a species at danger of going extinct was an entirely different issue that she rightfully felt she had no place dabbling in - not without professional training, at least... and the twelve knows when she’d find an expert in the matter willing to teach her.
Ethical concerns aside, Illya also struggled to find a concrete reason for why she absolutely had to keep this beautiful creature in her home.
For most of the other animals she’d adopted, they had been rescued in some form or the other. Hazel for example, the brown sparrow that she had found with broken wings near Bentbranch Meadows a few summers ago. Though Illya had full intentions to release her as soon as she healed from her injuries, the little sparrow grew attached and has rarely ever left her side since.
She’d struggled to find an adopter who would be willing to take in her mobirdly obese chocobo chick Lawrence, due perhaps to their reservations in regards to providing for his demanding diet. And likewise, the hunting hawk that she’d met upon a pirate ship had been abandoned after losing it’s eye... and his protectiveness over not just herself, but anyone he knew to be someone Illya cared for, made it difficult to even find ways to put adverts for his adoption.
Illya had thought the reason why birds seemed to flock to and very often stay by her side had been for the simple fact that she’d saved them... and that their attachment to the one who saved them made it impossible for them to part from her.
The Manchurian crane however, would perhaps be the clearest proof that her affinity with birds was... unnatural, to say the least.
Not that she minded, of course... Because for as much as she would bring doubt to her own abilities to care for the animals under her care, she did secretly have a soft spot for birds that perhaps made it hard for her to give her feathered friends as much as it would be for them to find a new home.
“Maybe I could foster it for a while before bring it back to Doma.” Illya hums, but hears Laurelis whine pitifully in response.
“But she’s clearly attached to you! I’m sure she’ll be happiest by your side. At the end of the day, her happiness and wellbeing is the most important, right? I’m sure you’ll do just fine, Illya!”
The miqo’te points out, gesturing to the yard full of birds who roosted quietly - from Lawrence who was now rolling about in his little playpen full of sand, to Captain Blackbeak who sat vigilantly atop the purple mailbox decorated with golden leaves and stars that sat right outside her yard.
Illya hears hazel singing from where she sat on the roof of the pagoda, and the nudging of the crane’s beak against her face, as if both voicing their agreement for Laurelis’ words... and Illya lets out a heaving sigh that was copied comically by the cockatiel on her shoulder.
“I-I’ll think about it.” Though there’s still a hint of hesitation, the fact Illya was willing to even consider was enough to cause Laurelis to break out into a grin, lifting her hands up to clap in delight.
“Oh goodie! Now think of a name for her!”
“N-now??” With widened eyes of gleaming lavender stars, Illya parts her mouth and shakes her head frantically. “W-when I’m put on the spot like that I can’t--... I can’t think of anything-”
“Oh!” Evidently more than happy to suggest some ideas, E’lija blurts out. “I have some ideas! How about... Queen crane! Or... Immortal Nancy! Or-”
“Shut up stupid! Shut up stupid!”
Bouncing up and down, Orion squeals out, causing the bard to finally collapse off of his chair and spill his milk coffee, which Illya is certain that Lawrence would be more than happy to hop over and drink off the floor.

I know we had a headcanon about Antonia being kidnapped for Stark Secret, but what about Tony being Kidnapped by Hydra
Tony opens his eyes slowly, wincing at the bright lights that assault his vision. When he opens them, he is in a gray room with concrete walls. It took the whole of 5 seconds for him to figure out three things.
First, he is not somewhere he recognized.
Second, the last thing he remembers is driving and then nothing. No memories of crashing, an accident, an attack. Just driving peacefully one second and then asleep the next.
Third, his hands are tied behind him so this obviously isn’t a social call. He lets out a groan, letting his head drop back.
“It’s gotta be fucking Monday. I swear to god! Why do most kidnappers choose Monday- the already worst day of the week?” The door to the room creaks open ominously like they always seem to do during kidnapping scenes in Hollywood movies and two men walk into the room. “And we’re right on schedule. Did you time the sedative so you could walk in here all intimidating, or
?”
The first guy with blond hair and a generically handsome face laughs, walking closer and pulling out a seat, looking at Tony with almost-kindness in spite of the wolfish smile on his face. Tony looks at the sulky and scarred one that lurks behind, standing in front of the door.
Good cop-bad cop, then.
“Hello, Mr. Stark,” the first man begins, idly twirling a knife between his fingers. “My name is Alpha-”
“Sounds like you’re trying to overcompensate for something, Al.”
“-and I am here to ask you a few questions. About the serum. And about where your lovely friend Steve Rogers might be. You wouldn’t happen to have any ideas about where they are, do you?”
*Oh of fucking course.
Tony lets out a soft breath. The universe must hate him. “No, I do not,” he responds, rolling his eyes and trying to ignore the way his heart pounds in his chest like birds hungering for sunlight.
“He and I- we haven’t seen eye to eye since the whole Accords debacle which you might know about if you watched the news recently. He’s still technically a fugitive, you know. I have no clue where he is. If you find him, tell me. I’m sure the government would love to have him and it’d make my job just the tiniest bits easier.”
Bluffing is one of Tony’s most-used defense mechanisms, it would seem.
But today is not his lucky day and Alpha only cants his head with a disbelieving smile on his face.
Alpha shares a look with the man behind him, whose face remained impassive.
“Listen, Mr. Stark,” Alpha begins again. “I know you want to protect Captain America, but for your sake, I assure you that telling us his whereabouts- or even the whereabouts of Bucky Barnes- will result in a more favorable outcome for you.”
Tony leans back as Alpha inches forward, a knife in his hand. “I heard about the procedure you underwent, Stark. About the Extremis formula that won’t let you die. Believe me, there are a few fates worse than death and I will make you endure them. Each and every one of them. A million times. Is that what you want? Pain that stretches on for an eternity?” He presses his knife against Tony’s arm, staring into Tony’s eyes as he let it dig deeper until it was almost splitting skin.
“Shouldn’t we try some steps before we decide that torture’s the way to go?” the man behind Alpha asks, looking uneasy as he fiddles with a pen. Alpha snaps his head back and sneers at the man who visibly backtracks. “Just sayin’, A.”
Alpha lets out a huff, watching the skin split underneath the knife with a satisfied gleam in his eyes.
The hours roll by quickly after that. Tony’s mind is stuck in a haze of pain that doesn’t end, doesn’t relent for longer than a few minutes. Every time he thinks that it was ending, his skin stitches back together and his body burns through whatever they put in his body and he finds himself awake and alive and he *couldn’t even pass out. Everything starts over again. There was no mercy in store for him, it seemed.
The questions kept on repeating:
Where is Steve Rogers?
*I don’t know.
Where is Bucky Barnes?
*I don’t know.
Where is the serum?
*I don’t know.
There is no one coming for him. Tony knows this. Antonia would be at a conference in Seattle and Rhodey thinks that he’s going to be with Peter. Neither of them knows that Tony is tied up in some lunatic’s playground living out a shitty horror movie. The man behind Alpha is named Jack, apparently, and he is the one who gives Tony water and gives him short breaks from the pain when he can. He is no less cruel than Alpha though, for he stands there and watches as Tony vomits on their floor from the pills they force on him and sputters out blood from his mouth from the agony that makes his stomach seize. All he does is take notes, scribbling something down on his notepad, eyes soft and human in a way that Alpha’s is not.
They are both monsters, Tony decides. They are both monsters in entirely different ways.
Alpha is the one to take the knife to Tony’s skin, but Jack is the one who lets it happen. Tony can see the conflict in Jack’s eyes and sees the way his fingers twitch with every cut to Tony’s chest. He is guilty but he does nothing but turn his eyes away and focus on something else that isn’t Tony bleeding out in front of him.
It is Jack who stands there and takes notes. It is Jack who doesn’t let him free when he has a chance.
It is Jack who ultimately makes Tony feel helpless and vulnerable and pulled taut in every way possible with his sympathetic eyes and lack of help, watching Tony scream like a specimen behind a glass.
There is nobody coming for him.
It is a familiar feeling. After Afghanistan and the Ten Rings, Siberia and Steve Rogers, if there is one thing he’s learned it’s that if he is in trouble, he must get himself out. There’s no mercy for the weak and no salvation for the broken. There is only pain, unceasing, unrelenting, merciless in their claws and teeth and fire.
There is nothing but pain.
“One last time, Stark,” Alpha says, tired in spite of himself. “Tell me where your friend is and I might let you go. You can’t keep doing this, you know? You’ll die at some point- Extremis or not. And the way you’ll die will be screaming and bleeding. So tell me where your friend is or tell me how this serum works. Or alternatively, I watch you die.”
Tony lifts his head, blood dribbling down the back of his throat and down his chin, staining the front of what’s left of his shirt. His lips curl into a smirk as he spits on Alpha’s shoes, relishing the way he grabs his knife in his rage. “Bite me.”
Alpha lunges at him and Tony flinches, his muscles stiffening as he prepares for another blow that never lands. After a moment he opens his eyes and sees what he never expected to see again in his life: the Avengers standing together. Even the rogues are there, and Steve stands in the front of the group beside Rhodey and Antonia, shieldless but not any less threatening. Tony meets Antonia’s eyes, confused and slightly devastated at having Steve come to a place where they specifically wanted him dead.
If Antonia understands the message he is trying to send with his eyes, she doesn’t do anything about it, only running over to him and leaving Steve to take out Alpha and Natasha to take out Jack. Bucky stands there, on guard, shooting off rounds at the security and back up that Alpha alerted with Clint.
“You shouldn’t have-” Tony begins, throat dry and voice hoarse from screaming. “-come here.”
Steve winces as he hears the wrecked voice, looking over at Tony and seeing the mess that HYDRA made of him. His shirt is covered in blood stains, some dry and some fresh, looking almost completely red with how stained it has become. His face was a mess of bruises and cuts that were all on different paths to healing, some looking like they would fade within an hour and others looking like they would take days to fade.
With his arms tied behind him and his hair a ragged mess and his eyes belying his pain, Tony looked nothing short of tortured. Steve hated that this is how their reunion went but when Antonia called him and told him that she’d come home early a few days early due to a canceled conference and realized Tony was missing, he had to help. It was his obligation.
Tony was his brother in arms and Steve had to make sure he got home safe.
Even if they were currently not on speaking terms due to Steve’s own stupid mistakes.
“What do you mean?” Steve asks, adopting a more casual stance as he stands there, several feet away from Tony, watching Antonia untie Tony from his bindings as Tony flinches away when her fingers graze across his skin.
Tony’s eyes meet his, hands trembling as Antonia finally finishes cutting the ropes off of him. “They’re after you and the Manchurian Candidate over there. You shouldn’t have come here. They’re after you two.”
The silence that greets the statement is colder than the ice on a murderer’s grave.
Steve’s knees quake deep down to the bones, the breath leaving his lungs as he leans against Sam to keep upright. “This was because of me?” he breathes, eyes looking over Tony’s injuries in a different light. *My fault! My fault! I did this! his mind screamed and there isn’t enough air in the room suddenly, every breath burning on the way in as he inhaled. “Jesus Christ, Tony. I’m sorry.”
Tony doesn’t say anything, rubbing the ache from his wrists before he lets Antonia give him a gentle embrace. She smells like the honey-scented medicine she was working on when Tony had left and it’s so familiar that Tony almost wants to cry right then and there.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he allows himself to indulge and remain in her arms, not caring about the fact that he’s trembling even though it’s not cold. “I didn’t think you’d come,” he whispers after a long time with his eyes closed.
Antonia shifts around him, patting him on the back. “I’ll always come for you, Tony. Always.”
Tony opens his eyes and pulls away, sniffing dryly. He accepts Rhodey’s offered hand of support, standing on trembling legs and walking forward even as his muscles protest. “Nice to see you, Honeybear.”
Rhodey’s lips split into a wet smile. “It’s always nice to see you, Tones. Not in this condition, mind you, you’ve certainly seen some better days, but- You know what I mean.”
Tony laughs and the tension in his chest eases just a tiny bit, uncoiling as he stands in the room he was tortured in for days. Rhodey watches him laugh like he was watching the birth of new stars, glad just to see that Tony was alive and that he’d found him in time.
The day that Tony goes somewhere that Rhodey can’t follow will be the day that something crackles and breaks irreparably inside of Rhodey.
Tony throws an arm over Antonia, letting her take his weight because he knows that she can handle it. He walks forward and gives Steve a smile. There’s still a lot of things to work through but that can wait until all the cuts fade away and he no longer feels like his skin is crawling from the memory of the blade.
“Let’s go home, Cap.”
Sorry this took forever! Hope you enjoy :)

Why is Sunflower Oil good for Indian cooking? & 5 Must-have snacks
Tumblr media
As Indians, we are lucky to taste a good sort of cuisine without travelling far. The vastness of our geography and also the richness of our soils have rewarded us with great food. A part of the rationale why Indian food could be a favourite of millions round the world is our sheer diversity in how we cook.
Traditional Indian cooking involves tempering, sautĂ©ing, stir frying, deep frying, preserving and pickling to call some. Even with a typical ingredient like oil, Indians use differing kinds – copra oil, mustard oil, sesame, etc., for various cuisines. But the newest entrants within the market have left many confused about what’s right, what’s healthy and why it should be their choice for the kitchen.
The usual feature to seem out for the smoke point of the oil. High heat in Indian cooking demands oils that retain nutrition and health while not impacting the flavour of the dish. While many conventional oils meet these requirements, they are not entirely suitable across cuisines for various reasons.
Some of these traditional oils are highly aromatic. Upon exposure to heat, they release their distinct flavours which affects the ultimate flavour of the dish. This might be preferable in some cases. However, these oils can not be employed in every type of cooking. a number of them have allergens which makes them inconsumable by few. Excessive amounts of a number of these oils also affect heart health and cholesterol levels.
However, within the previous couple of years, sunflower oils have made their entry into our supermarket shelves and houses. This trend of shifting to the utilization of vegetable oil is additionally supported by consumer awareness on the restrictions of the kitchen staple oils.
A neutral flavoured oil with a high smoking point would be a perfect solution to arrange different courses of meals. This oil should even have nutrients that help meet recommended intake levels.
So, the subsequent time, you stand confused before the food aisle at the Supermarket, just hunt for Sunright, sunflower oil dealers in Chennai.
5 Must-have snacks:
After all that scorching heat and sun, the rains appear to be such a welcome change. The chilly breeze and also the little drops of rain make it the coziest time of the year. The most effective thing to try and do would be to curve a courant chair with a decent book or movie, a hot cup of tea and a plate stuffed with monsoon snacks. Here’s a listing of mouth-watering monsoon snacks you've got to try with Sunright, cooking oil distributors in Chennai.
1. Mixed Vegetable Pakora
2. Mirchi Pakodi
3. Idli Manchurian
4. Vegetable Bajjis
5. Moong Dal Vada
If this got you drooling and daydreaming, it’s about time you grabbed yourself a ladle. After all, what could possibly beat the enjoyment of munching on a crisp snack that is made with Sunright, edible oil suppliers in Chennai and a hot cup of tea?

Whenever it comes to Indian weddings, the wedding menu is a major part of discussion. India is a country of numerous cultures and backgrounds and thus, it experiences major differences in the food taste and types. Every guest who visits your wedding venue would be looking forward to the food menu. Hence, you must make sure to keep the food up to the mark, delicious and salubrious. It’s not just about the type of food, but also about how carefully you plan the menu. Most of the people look forward to a mouth-watering yet healthy wedding menu. In order to make the guests drool over the dishes, some options are suggested below.
Add Healthy Salad Counter
Most of the wedding guests these days are health conscious owing to the obesity and other health disorders’ prevalence. If you want to render your guests fully satisfied with the wedding menu, try adding some healthy diet. A full-fledged salad counter at one corner of the wedding venue will add to the appeal and make your guests gratified. The last thing you would want is for the guests to leaveempty stomach. Don’t hesitate; add some salads and veggies for all the diet conscious folks to make the menu perfect.
Let the Guests Make Their Meal
Wouldn’t it be amazing if the guests got to prepare their own meals at the wedding? Another way to make your guests eat healthy is by installing a live counter. Guests get to choose their own herbs, vegetables, protein, seasonings and spices as per their preference. Not just that, they even get to choose the amount of oil in the meal or no oil at all. Hence, live food counters are a total blessing as far as the healthy wedding menu is concerned. That way, all your guests will be able to enjoy the food at your wedding guilt-free.
Tandoori Food Set-Up
Most of the people have a misconception that Tandoori dishes constitute a higher amount of oil unhealthy fats. However, this is not true. Tandoori dishes are the best options if you’re looking for some lip-smacking dishesthat are healthy as well.  Setting up a Tandoori food counter at your wedding is extremely facile. Your guest will love the spicy and delicious tandoori food, without having to compromise on their diet or healthy eating. Also, this option turns out to be financially stable and efficient at the same time.
Try Out Healthy Indian Dishes
You are the master of your food preferences and the cause of health related aspects of your body. In order to make more healthy food options available to the guests at your wedding, try out healthy versions of Indian cuisine. Adding some South-Indian dishes like Dosa, Vada and Idli would be great if salubrious diet is your choice. These are both healthy as well as appealing to your taste buds. Other dishes like raitas, chicken, soups and kebabs attract a great deal of guests and are healthy at the same time.
Rock the Wedding Menu with Healthy Chinese
Unlike the general opinion of Chinese food being unhealthy and totally junk for your body, it is much more than oil-dripping noodles or fatty Manchurian dishes. Adding some salubrious Chinese dishes in your wedding menu would be enchanting for your guests. Chinese is the most famous cuisine after Indian, a popular favorite and is loved by almost everyone. Consider adding vegetable soups, steamed chicken, lettuce wraps or vegetables noodles to complete the menu in the most delightful manner.
Italian Delight for Wedding Menu
Italian food is the most loved cuisine all over the world. Not only does it taste great but is also healthy for your body. You can consider Italian cuisine for your healthy wedding food. The fact that olive oil is used and not the regular vegetable oil, the Italian dishes are both, delicious and healthy. They prove to be ideal for the wedding food options and must be instilled by everyone. Minestrone soups, whole wheat pasta and thin crust whole-wheat pizza can’t be beaten by any other food options.
Creating a wedding menu that your diet-conscious guests can also enjoy may look like an impossible task at first. But, including the food types mentioned above will not only give an edge to your wedding menu, but also leave your guests in awe.

chibisquirt replied to your post “Fending off post-vacation blues with a snippet of stony. prologue of a...”
Manibear, this is so goooood! I want the rest of it yesterday, of COURSE, but at the very least I'm dying to know what's going to happen!!! *dances*
THANK YOU L’IL WEIRDO! I mean, i have some stuff written w/ bucky but have since Given Up. However, since you are a bbarnes fan...voila! budding winteriron~
So, this is a thing that happens: Bucky resurfaces, and Tony arranges for him to come home with them.
Sitting in a private Stark Industries jet, staring at his old friend’s grim profile and the way Sam protectively clutches his jet pack, Steve figures that's a bit simplistic. In reality, a lot happened after Sam called to tell him about an incident at the UN and that the Winter Soldier had been named primary suspect. So, Bucky was suddenly wanted by several world governments and Steve had, unsurprisingly, been good and ready to punch his way out of it.
Thankfully, Tony had been there to put an end to that.
“That was a shit plan, Spangles,” he’d said, once they were ensconced in a fishbowl inside the CIA headquarters in Berlin.
Steve remembers looking up at Tony perched on the table, arms folded and dressed to succeed in an armor of the designer three-piece variety. He has the decency to feel a little abashed.
“I know, Tony,” he says, sincerely. “But Bucky was in danger and suddenly, I was a 16 year old kid in Brooklyn again.”
Tony had scoffed, not unkindly. He reached out, hovered over the healing bruise on Steve’s jaw that came from a thankfully aborted fight with German law enforcement. “You ok?”
Steve rolled his shoulders. It felt like shifting the burden instead of shedding it. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Good,” Tony replied and quickly got down to business. “Because we need to talk about Barnes’ pending trial—
“No,” Steve had protested immediately. “What trial—Tony, he didn’t do those things!"
“The attorney general’s got evidence, but—” Tony stood fast, held out a palm in warning when Steve opened his mouth to reject the claim. “I’ve got lawyers. Good ones. They can and will tear that shit apart in seconds.”
“Then, why is it even on the table?” Steve asked. “Tony, you read Bucky’s file; you read what HYDRA did to him. Now, they want to hold him responsible for
for what?"
"Suffering?” Tony answered. “Too much, too little? I don’t know. I do know you want nothing less than the absolute right thing, but I need you to work with me here.”
“Bucky’s an American soldier, a P.O.W,” Steve shook his head. “I’m not begging for table scraps from a bureaucracy that should do better by him.”
“Can you?” Tony challenged. “Do better by him? When we get back to the States, Barnes gets transferred to a psych ward. He gets help, high ground in this shit storm—what’s your plan?"
“Keeping him out of internment!” Steve scrubbed a hand through his hair. On a level, Tony was right; Bucky deserved better than upheaval, but there wasn’t an institution in the world that Steve trusted enough to just hand him over. He watched Tony stare back at him, silently, but Steve could hear the words in his mind just as loud as if they were spoken: what can I do, Cap?
“I’m sorry,” he offered, for what it was worth. “I’m sorry, Tony, but I can’t let go and hope for the best. He’s my closest friend.”
Those words, more than anything, seemed to change something in Tony. He cut his gaze away and fiddled briefly with his cufflinks
“We’re friends too,” Tony said finally. He sighed wearily, but his eyes were affectionate when he looked at Steve. “You’re a menace, Rogers, but I’ll see what I can do.”
And what Tony does is let them all fly home in a fancy jet like they're just getting back from vacation instead of a harrowing 24 hours that nearly ended in Captain America becoming a fugitive. Leaving Sam and Bucky to their own silent devices on the other side of the aisle, Steve glances sidelong at Tony in the seat right beside him. His tie is loose, his top buttons open, and one hand rubs absently at his chest.
“You ok?” Steve asks quietly.
Tony replies without opening his eyes. “Always."
Steve nods to himself, then reaches over to place his hand over the one on Tony’s chest. “I love you. Thank you."
Tony still doesn't open his eyes, but his lips tip endearingly upward.

Five hours later finds Steve ushering Bucky to dinner at the Avengers compound. A few team members are in town, and honestly, Steve is excited for them to meet. The only one he worries about, really, is Wanda. She’s an Avenger now, but Steve might be forgiven for being wary of mind control.
The dining room is sparse when they enter, occupied by Tony and Colonel Rhodes on one side, and Sam and Natasha on the other. Just the inner circle, then; Steve’s relieved.
Tony sees them first and beckons Bucky over. “Class, we have a new kid joining us today,” he says. “This is Bucky, he’s another exchange student from 1943. How ‘bout it? Wanna tell us about yourself?"
Steve bites his cheek to keep from laughing at the progression of expressions on Bucky’s face. And since he trusts this group enough, he leaves Bucky’s side to take his usual seat at the table and look up at his old friend expectantly himself. Bucky remains where he is, oscillating between confusion and suspicion until Rhodes takes pity and extends a hand.
“Sergeant Barnes,” he greets. “Jim Rhodes, glad to meet you."
“Colonel Jim Rhodes,” Tony adds and winks when Rhodes gives him a look. “Be proud, honey bear. Now for the rest of the munchkins, you already know Stevie; Nat is—"
“He knows me,” Natasha says smoothly. She glances up at Bucky as if daring him to say otherwise. He doesn’t.
“And your ass better know me,” says Sam, already spooning vegetables on to his plate.
Some tension rolls off Bucky’s shoulders. He saunters over to an empty seat on Tony’s other side, eyes pinned on a very unimpressed Sam Wilson. “I had to move six times because of you.”
Sam instantly counters with the shit times he had in Romania, dealing with grabby landladies and wannabe gangsters, and Tony leans over to Steve. “Well, how ‘bout that? First day is going well."
Dinner goes well. Subdued as he is and probably hyper aware of the history between everyone at the table, Bucky eventually falls into a certain kind of ease. Tony, who recognized a fellow little shit when he saw one, makes him laugh with more than a few artfully placed quips. Eventually, it doesn’t escape Steve that Bucky is sometimes the only one who laughs, even when everyone else groans in disbelief. By the time dessert rolls around, Tony’s shuffled his chair close to Bucky’s and they’re both viciously defending their opinion on certain stealth tech (that neither of them were supposed to know about) against Natasha and Sam’s (who also weren’t supposed to know about it). Steve is left to exchange a look of high strung exasperation with Colonel Rhodes, but nevertheless, it’s a good moment.
One that Steve is immensely happy for because that’s exactly when Bucky looks like himself. He idly strokes Tony’s fingers as the engineer says something outrageous that starts a mini riot around the table. Even Bucky openly grins around a bite of carrot stick, his whole body pivoted firmly in Tony’s direction.
-
Like most good things in life, the moment passes too soon. Steve stalls for as long as he can; he chats with Rhodes and Sam until they actually lock the doors to their respective vehicles and roll away; he begs Natasha for updates on the team, on the armory, on the least significant thing within his purview as leader of the Avengers. And when she shrugs him off with all the elegance in the world, he drags himself peevishly up the stairs to Bucky’s suite of rooms.
He’s slightly astonished at the sight that greets him there: Bucky is on the couch, metal arm sprawled out across Tony’s lap. Tony mutters something Steve can hear, but can’t make sense of, and makes a slow fist with his own hand. They both wince when Bucky mimics the move and his metal joints creak like a jalopy on its last legs.
Tony looks pained. “Ok, yeah, we need to upgrade that before it starts shedding parts.”
“You can really handle that?” Bucky asks. There’s something in his tone—not awe, not even curiosity, but it feels right at home with the way he and Tony smirk dryly at each other. Steve takes a measured breath, blaming his twisting gut on the sleek monitoring anklet blinking serenely on the coffee table.
“Well, don’t just stand there like a concerned dad, Steve,” Tony finally flicks his eyes up to the doorway. “Come and tell Manchurian Candidate here what a genius I am."
“It’s true, Buck,” Steve offers. “He can do quadratic—“
“Quintic."
“—polynomials in his head while trimming his nose hairs.”
Bucky raises an eyebrow. “You’d better not be trimming anything while touching my arm."
“Ooh sorry, guyliner, gotta at least buy me dinner before you get to tell me when to manscape.”
Surprisingly enough, Bucky doesn’t tense up under Tony’s casual flirting. Instead, he tilts his head, saying, “Oh, is that all?” and Steve suddenly flashes back to 1939 and his pre-military gig as a lump by Bucky’s side while his friend made eyes at every girl who gave him time of day. Logically, things are different now. Logically, Steve shouldn’t feel as jealous as he does, but his arm automatically hovers possessively by Tony’s shoulder and there goes logic.
Unaware of Steve's insides in knots, Tony rolls his eyes, “Barnes, you’re unemployed,” he says, albeit with fond amusement. “and I assume you were listening when the nice CIA agent explained the house arrest situation?”
“Tony!” Steve protests reproachfully, causing an awkward silence to descend just then. The fragile lightness of the mood dissipates and everyone’s gaze slides to the coffee table. Steve looks at the ankle monitor like it’s a dead rat, even though it’s the price of keeping Bucky in the compound instead of a federal nuthouse. The wrongness of it all makes him want to hit something.
“He wears it and checks in with an officer until all the charges against the Winter Soldier are dropped. That’s the deal." Tony reminds him. “Trust me, I’m not happy about it, either.” And Steve believes him, especially since the monitoring devices did take a brief detour to his lab before making it up here. ‘Tamper-proof’, the CIA had said, and no doubt Tony took it as a challenge.
He must have hesitated a second too long because Tony grabs the anklet and snaps it open. “Alright, Barnes, bad guy coming your way,” he jokes half heartedly.
Bucky rolls his eyes and pulls up his pant leg to expose his ankle. “You ain't a bad guy."
