I think it must be for the lack of going outside of your room on this website that debates about personal presentation and appearance literally never have any material analysis. sorry it's counterrevolutionary to shave my legs or wear makeup or a bra or style my hair in certain ways or "worry" about visible signs of aging but have some of you just never encountered real world situations where those things caused measurable problems dealing with other people, jobs, money, respectability, access to resources, or the ability to influence important situations? this starts happening when you go outside a lot. there's a debate on my dash rn about balding and finasteride in which not a single person has mentioned the potential negative social outcomes of losing your hair and how that can affect socioeconomic status and personal risk. maybe someone doesn't need to be "vain" to care about keeping their hair and consider the risks of medication for it. maybe they've seen how bald people get treated and referred to and made a cost benefit calculation that they can't afford, sometimes literally, to eat that cost, with everything else they've got going on. maybe I wear makeup when I have to go talk to doctors and other gatekeepers because people make assumptions about your class and mental status when you have "bad skin" and "eye bags". maybe a lot of women who wear uncomfortable restrictive bras and shave whatever and buy skin products and do gua sha have already been sharply punished when someone saw leg hair or a mustache or puffy greasy skin or god forbid their nipple through their shirt. not everyone can just say "fuck it, I can afford to eat one more social cost that will measurably impact my ability to get medical treatment or pay rent". sorry this sounds like an economics lecture, that's because it is
if you are about to tell me a long story about how you personally have not been affected by perceptions of your appearance actually so you can conclude it never happens at all, please don't. sometimes you get lucky, that's it. and on this website I think it's less likely that you're lucky and more likely that you're oblivious
#im not addressing weight or race here because im not qualified to speak on it#blog#the economics of the perceived person#i guess#also not addressing visible queerness here because again not qualified#dont yell at me#i stg if someone tries to make this about goth gatekeeping#im WHITE and even still an ongoing theme of my life is total strangers telling me to “just use conditioner” or get a Brazilian blowout#because my hair is curly#which is no joke still considered completely unacceptable in most of white cultuee#probably because its associated with being bipoc#im not saying “oh poor me” about my hair im saying people have literally told me to my face i looked homeless and crazy or drug addicted#and treated me accordingly#because im barely a 3a hair pattern#i can only try to extrapolate from this how actual women of color with natural hair get treated#but i see those women getting shit on for straightening or styling because its “reinforcing patriarchy” or whatever#girl they are not the ones doing the reinforcement

can i speak my truth here for a second? i don't believe anyone is actually french braiding their own hair. it's simply not logistically possible. those youtube tutorials are all deepfakes.
#every now and again i'm like 'oh i should learn how to—' NOPE. it simply cannot be done.#doesn't help that i have got. fairly unmanageable hair lol#(wavy/coarse/super prone to tangling and difficult to divide into neat sections. also waist to hip length which probs makes it harder)#even when it's damp and thoroughly conditionered all it wants is to be messy and tangled again#and really who am i to say otherwise?#nature just did not intend for me to have neat secure and geometrically precise braids#i am meant to have braids that are just overall kind of badly done and lopsided also falling apart.

Poll adventure (paventure? lol) Day 16: read the small story tidbit below the poll for more details, OR just vote based on initial impression
(✦ see past poll results + further information HERE (link) ✦)
Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should offer to help the travelers with their broken wagon.....
~
After much internal deliberation (and some zoning out staring at butterflies), The Adventurer decides it would be best to offer his assistance. Technically, he IS still following his goal of not getting distracted, because theoretically it would make his journey much faster if he were able to catch a ride on a carriage. So really, this is all an ultimate big brain genius strategy for maximizing efficient travel.. Or, at least that sounds like a good enough justification to him.
Gathering up all of his social courage, he approaches one of the travelers fiddling with a broken wheel near the far end of the carriage and meekly asks if there's anything he could do to help.
The man was so focused on his task, he seems initially startled to look up and find someone near him. "OH..! Oh, uhh.. help? With the wagon?", he smiles pleasantly, gesturing towards a few wooden boards that are just out of his reach, "Sure, kid. If you could just hand me th-"
"Apologies, but we actually won't be needing your assistance, stranger." A taller man, surprisingly almost matching the stature of the Adventurer, suddenly slinks out from somewhere behind the carriage, sternly placing himself like a barrier in front of the man working on the wheel. Wheel Guy nervously averts his eyes, making himself smaller, silently resuming his work.
The Adventurer tries his best to maintain composure against the weight of the tall man's bitter gaze, but can't seem to muster much of a response "Aeughh,,, uh… b-but, h- Bu--HHHh,,?.."
"Look, disregard whatever my father told you, he's old, never has any clue what he's talking about. It'd be best for you to simply move along." ('Father'? They don't look alike at all, and seem to be nearly the same age..)
"W-well.. he.. he didn't really tell me anything, I me-hhH,,.. I mean, I literally just got here, s-so...."
"Good. Even more reason to be on your way."
Placing a gloved hand firmly on his shoulder, the tall man begins to motion the Adventurer away from the wagon, but a strange noise interrupts, echoing from inside. Perhaps some sort of animal sound? Or a person faintly yelling about something? Or… both?
"WH-wHggg… whAT was t-that???!!" The Adventurer immediately stops in place, pausing to listen as the tall man keeps trying to push him ahead.
"I didn't hear anything, stranger."
"No, t-there.. was dEFinitely, UHH, a-"
"Likely something in the forest."
"Wh--aah... d.. do you think it was an animal?"
The tall man continues a dramatic struggle to 'subtly' drag him further down the road, whilst the Adventurer mindlessly digs in his heels, too distracted to even notice he's being so strongly prompted to leave.
"Many animals do, indeed, exist within forests. This should not be suprising."
"...It's just.. ..eughh… s… so weird…"
"I assure you, it is not."
"I-it really sounded like.. like it came f-from insid-"
"Yes, from inside the forest. Now, please, if you would.."
The noise interrupts again. It's definitely someone, or something, in some sort of distress.. And definitely from inside of the cart.
"wHoAAGH, aa!!! T-tHat's NOT from the f-forest, that-"
The tall man fully just shoves him now, sending the Adventurer toppling across the dirt, clumsily rolling and landing just past the other side of the carriage. A mother and young child who seem to be part of the traveling group simply stare down at him with empty blank gazes, wholly unconcerned about helping him up.
As the Adventurer fumbles back to his feet (still confused as to why he was even pushed in the first place), the tall man looms by the carriage, diligently watching to ensure that he leaves.
"Travel safe, stranger."
Despite his initial obliviousness, the Adventurer begins to piece the situation together as he stares back at the man, now fully convinced something suspicious might be going on...
…What should he do next??

Additional Information
the adventurer's current main quest: follow his map to reach the abandoned castle ruins and see the rare animal specialist about the mysterious egg he has
#paventure posting#poll#polls#choose your own adventure#ERM.. ... hee hee... yes.. alas.. it has been like two months since the last one lol#IT'S SUMMER!!!! how can anyone function in the summer..? It's literally 83F in my room indoors right now at this moment at NIGHT#I'm about to go to sleep.. who can sleep in an 80+ degree room comfortably?? ghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#Really no hope of productivity at all from like June - September basically... EVIL.. and also the spring this year had some heat waves so#AUGhh... my nemesis the Summer.. Or moreso capitalism is my nemesis for worsening climate change and also keeping people in such#economic inequality that cheap apartments with terrible ventilation get made and people cant afford air conditioners and etc. etc.#but ALSO... the summer... grrrr.. 'Heat' you will never be famous.. you will always be lame nasty and so forth..#ANYWAY.. also sorry this is another blurb that's longer. The text is always longer when there's actually spoken interactions lol#I know I'm not very good at this style of writing (especially when rushing with these) so I always feel kind of awkward having really long#sections people will have to slog through or etc ghbjhjh but.. I don't really know how it make it shorter. the interaction#is just the interaction. certain things must be said and conveyed. peace and love on planet orth.#Ough it's been so long I almost forgot to draw his injuries lol.. in-world it's only been what like.. a day? since he got into a fight with#that mysterious cloaked person who was tracking him to steal the egg. Just tried normal hair conditioner again after a week of using cider vinegar, and idk guys, I honestly think I'm going to stick with the cider vinegar.
#admittedly the smell lingers in my hair a little bit no matter how well i rinse it but i CANNOT argue with the results#it makes my hair so fucking silky and honestly even easier to brush than regular conditioner?#turns out there's a reason women used vinegar and/or lemon juice rinses after washing their hair back before modern shampoos and whatnot#(i guess the chemistry behind it is that the acid closes the hair follicles)#anyway yeah i don't use it straight but dilute it with water (about 1:3 parts vinegar to water)#and then use it after shampoo like you would any conditioner; let it sit for a couple minutes and then thoroughly rinse#like 1-2 tablespoons is all you need#i can't promise it'll work for EVERYONE obvs but for my super straight hair it's been great#(also in other news i'm going out of town for a few days so if i don't respond to something that's why!)#personal

telling random people that they probably have to shampoo their hair less than they think is a thankless job that no one listens to me for but someone must be a prophet that walks the earth
#my post#people are like wow how does your hair look so good?#1. the cheapest conditioner i can find that doesn't have parabens#2. i only shampoo (also with very cheap shampoo without parabens i personally use the tea tree stuff from tj's) once every two weeks#this amount of time will be different for everyone and sometimes people do just produce so much oil naturally they should be washing a lot#but i've heard a lot of people me included your hair basically recalibrates after a bit and my hair is like never greasy except shampoo day#3. a few sprays of de-frizzer when still wet because my hair is really curly and it does frizz and i don't love that look. that's it#this is obviously not universal but if you like your natural hair you probably don't have to do as much with it as you think#like letting it do its thing will probably make it healthier and you're not reliant on ten different random products from megacorps. yanno.#*note this is mainly advice for curly hair idk what straight hair maintenance is like. i've heard the shampoo thing is pretty universal tho#also this is not a new topic i just was talking to someone yesterday and they were like oh well my daughter uses this incredibly#expensive shampoo and wants hair like yours and i'm like she should use nothing at all and the lady was like no she won't like that

I refuse to believe Tory gets up every morning and gives herself a blowout which means the only other explanation for her hair is that after she gets home from work at night and showers she has just enough energy left to loosely curl her damp hair around a headband and then falls asleep
#should still be frizzier tho.#look at the difference between Tory’s hair in s2 and Tory’s hair in s3 it’s like. Aisha definitely taught her how to use deep conditioner#and also probably suggested that straightening and (dear lord) crimping it all the time wasn’t a great idea#god if they let Tory have short hair in season 6 I’ll weep. I’ll weep openly#they didn’t make peyton list wear any wigs in s5 (stark contrast to seasons 3&4) so here’s hoping#cobra kai#tory nichols#ck

debating cutting all my hair off again 😒...
#personal#it too sooooo longggg to grow out but now im like. its just kind of inconvenient?#it gets in my face all the time and i use so much shampoo/conditioner and it gets greasy way faster and its harder to style...#but like. at this point if i cut it all off i dont think im ever gonna grow it out again? so i gotta like make it last i guess#i really wanted to have long hair again but now im just remembering why i got rid of it in the first place 😭#maybe i just need a haircut or something idk. like layers or bangs or some crap#idk. im trying to balance out the desire for easier styling vs the inevitable regret i'll feel for cutting it 🙃#AND LIKE. it looks so cute! but only the day i shower after it dries. if i sleep it just looks terrible 😭#idk how to fix it without showering again 🥲 but the mohawk was so easy...#i wish real life was like a video game where u could style your hair long or short whenever u wanted 😭😭😭

Spending a lot of time and money to make a custom bright red leather jacket just to be the specialist man in the bakery section of the grocery store was such a great investment. I love my red jacket. Everyone should make their own special jacket
#textpost#I love my black jacket with the jackalope and terminator skull and cyborg demon skull on it too#But the red one has a thermal liner and the pockets are more comfortable#Even though it's the same exact size as the black one it's like very very slightly shorter??#Which is fine until I need to zip it up and then it looks kinda dumb#But honestly I never zip these things up anyway because they also have laced sides and#well. with all my belts stuff too.. then with the jacket zipped up it's kinda like#Who's this guy with the very fitted slightly too short screaming bright red jacket with the slutty laced up sides#Doing here at the vaguely Christian family lunch and breakfast restaurant#See the problem is that I love being a bit of a special snowflake and I'm tall enough and look angry by default enough that#I can get away with looking a lil saucy and out of place all of the time. What're they gonna do? Get made at me about it lol#I've never had anyone get angry with me about how I dress/look in public which I appreciate a lot#But I get a lot of stares. That used to bother me but I don't notice now and it's funny going out sometimes with my#super self aware/shy sister because she's like 'everyone is staring at me/us :(' and I'm like 'what. who?'#I dyed my mohawk purple the other day btw and this new leave-in conditioner is great#My hair's like idk 8 inches? on top now and the conditioner is almost enough to make it stay up on its own again#Sorry this got long I'm exceptionally sleep deprived and stoned#Instead of Jack-O' posting I'm jacket posting tonight hah!#The shade of red I used for my jacket was fire red btw lol#I wanna put more spikes on it

Okay but fr I am so sick of trying to pick between two detriments when it comes to milk. I love cow's milk but I also know the extensive ecological cost between land use, methane, carbon dioxide and water. By god, the water... (I did an assessment that included researching and calculating all this). Phew.
Not a fan of almond really except for flavoured milk treats, and that also uses water extensively so I'm not too interested in it.
I love oat milk, its much better ecologically, but. The packaging x__x Tetra Paks cannot be recycled in Australia (there is a single recycling plant I think and its in another state). So while the crop footprint is generally smaller than cow milk, the packaging is causing another Massive Issue. Landfill is one of the primary contributors to methane accumulation in the atmosphere (alongside livestock) so it really feels like such a lose-lose situation OTL Especially when you consider that for every bottle of cow milk, you go through two oat milk paks because they come in 1L instead of 2L.
At least cow milk bottles get recycled. I just hope that with increasing use of alternative milks maybe more recycling plants will open up for this type of packaging? Because they can be recycled but you need special machinery. Similarly with blister packs (the pharmaceutical companies should be paying for that one 100%).
And I like being able to store heaps of oat milk in the cupboard and not have to worry about it spoiling because it lasts ages! Its cheaper and easier. I do also like UHT cow milk also.
Better sustainability practices are achievable but it seems so impossible when you have no money to set yourself up for less plastic, and things touted as "better alternatives" still have massive impacts.
It shouldn't be this damn hard to cut plastic out of my life >:(
#I know proportionally the impact would probably... still be less with oat but. would it?#More calculations are needed#need to become more plant based but need to work out how to do it so I can still incorporate meat for brin at the same time#much to think about#sustainability#The intense uni stress is kinda over so Im back to kicking my apathy away and trying to get healthier and cleaner again#Also not super relevent but when are they going to make eco friendly shampoo and conditioner products that actually work :')#I have tried multiple times to use ethique bars and such but my hair always ends up gross after a few weeks. Naturally oily hair sucks#also tried conditioner from local place where you refill your own bottles so no plastic waste. and it was useless. cries. im trying so hard#chatterboxing

My hair smells like toothpaste
#pedanticblah#context: my first hanukkah present was color depositing deep conditioner#to make my hair red again while there's still bleached hair to make red#the deep conditioner is fragranced with spearmint and rosemary#but really just smells like spearmint#aka toothpaste smell#and i took a shower this morning#and used the deep conditioner#which has to sit for fifteen minutes#meaning that both the pigment and the fragrance absorb deep into my hair#hence: my hair smells like toothpaste#also: hello new followers who are here from my blazed headless post!#this is how i usually behave#also also my nails are kind of stained red#it'll go away over the course of the day#as i wash my hands and do dishes and stuff

Girl, every time I have my hair straightened I get perpetual agony over the fact that it probably looks better on me that way over the braids I have to do every time I go out because I will never wear my hair curly.
#causes me massive sensory issues to wear it curly — I also just cannot commit to making it look good — too expensive with too many products#if I braid it’d just hair ties and leave in conditioner.#I wish I felt comfortable with my curly hair and knew how to style it without so much effort. or frizz…#I have great hair until it’s curly. that’s it.#I also feel like it looks weird from the back rn when I braid because my roots are lighter then my natural hair colour and it might look ..#gross idek…#I might need to find a better hair style.

if you have hair that you can brush when it's dry without it immediately exponentially increasing in volume, please, please, leave me out of your hair care tips. I really, really don't need to hear your opinion on how often I wash it or the products I use. The conditioner weighing it down and making it greasy is literally not possible. It being heavy is a good thing. No conditioner isn't optional. I'm pleased for you that your bristle brush is working for you! But it can only redistribute oils if you can pull it through the hair to start with.
Trying to give hair care advice to someone based on what you do when they have hair with a completely different texture is like trying to apply cactus care tips to bedding flowers. It's like putting wood polish on aluminium. It literally will not work. Do not comment on my hair routine being high maintenance if you have the option to forgo all hair products and only wash it with water and can still wear it loose. What did people do before conditioner? Well with my hair type they were 100% using oil to moisturise it and they also didn't wear it down.
Its not the same. It's not grown dependent on conditioner over time. It's always been dependent on conditioner to look like this. It can not retain moisture by itself. If I didn't condition it I would have to keep it plaited all the time or it would twist in to itself without any input. It only looks similar enough to your hair that you think your tips will work because I've put in an enormous amount of effort to keep it healthy in spite of me wearing it loose and uncovered most of the time. Your hair looks neat when you brush it and the weather doesn't destroy it, we aren't the same.
#why are people so determined to see hair care as one size fits all#why do they feel the need to force their opinions on me about things they clearly don't know anything about#oh I've never seen hair do THAT when you brush it. i know!!!! that's obvious from the fact you wanted me to brush it dry#every time they are like 'i know someone with hair that looks like yours and it worked for them#oh so their hair looked like mine after I've heavily conditioned my hair and babied it? does it feel the same. did brushing make it smooth?#it isn't the same!!! you can't compare end results of 2 ppl looking after their hair in the best way for their hair and assume its the same#the look of shock on their face when you cant run a brush through it#when it stays together without a band#it's almost like we've got different hair types!!! who could have guessed#and then ppl are surprised by how healthy it is.you can just tell they are like. how can it be that healthy when you arent looking after it#because i am looking after it!!! this is how you look after hair like mine! any damage is literally from the wind and the sun#it has been babied. this is it at its peak. that's why it's growing so fast and has no split ends. it's not luck#it wants to clump together so if i don't let it do that yeah the exposed layer is going to get battered#every time someone suggests i do less with my hair i want to show them a picture of my grandads hair like: does this look like a good look#to you??? the conditioner is entirety necessary if i want any chance of it lying flat (ish) and don't want it to feel like wire#your experiences are not universal
