What Causes Male Infertility? 10 Common Reasons Explained
Tumblr media
When it comes to infertility, the focus often falls on women, but male infertility is just as significant and affects millions of men worldwide. In fact, about one in every five couples struggling with infertility may have a male factor contributing to the challenge. Let’s dive into the 10 most common causes of male infertility. Whether you’re seeking answers for yourself or someone close to you, understanding these causes is the first step toward finding solutions.
1. Low Sperm Count (Oligospermia)
A low sperm count is one of the most common causes of male infertility. Normal sperm count ranges from 15 million sperm per milliliter to over 200 million. If a man has fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter, the chances of conception decrease significantly. Low sperm count can be caused by hormonal imbalances, genetic factors, or environmental exposures.
2. Poor Sperm Motility (Asthenozoospermia)
Sperm motility refers to the ability of sperm to swim efficiently toward an egg. Poor sperm motility is another leading cause of male infertility. If the sperm cannot swim effectively, they may struggle to reach and fertilize the egg, reducing the chances of conception. This can result from lifestyle choices, infections, or structural issues in the reproductive organs.
3. Abnormal Sperm Morphology (Teratozoospermia)
Sperm morphology is the study of the size and shape of sperm. Sperm with abnormal morphology (irregular shape or size) can have difficulty reaching and penetrating an egg. This condition may be linked to genetic factors, environmental toxins, or certain health conditions such as diabetes.
4. Varicocele
A varicocele is the enlargement of veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins that occur in the legs. It can interfere with the temperature regulation of the testicles, causing sperm production to decrease. Varicoceles are found in about 15% of the general male population but can be responsible for up to 40% of cases of male infertility.
5. Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
Erectile dysfunction, the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse, can significantly impact fertility. While ED does not directly affect sperm quality, it hinders the physical ability to ejaculate during intercourse. Causes of ED include psychological factors, health conditions (e.g., diabetes), or side effects from medications.
6. Testicular Ailments (Infections or Injury)
Infections such as epididymitis, orchitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can impact sperm production and function. Testicular injuries or surgeries can also damage sperm-producing cells, leading to infertility. Conditions like mumps, if contracted after puberty, can also affect the testicles and lead to permanent infertility.
7. Hormonal Imbalances
Hormones play a crucial role in sperm production. An imbalance in hormones like testosterone, thyroid hormone, or prolactin can disrupt the production of sperm. Conditions such as hypogonadism (low testosterone levels), obesity, or pituitary gland problems can lead to hormonal imbalances that affect male fertility.
8. Genetic Factors
Genetics can significantly influence male fertility. Conditions such as Klinefelter syndrome (an extra X chromosome), Y-chromosome microdeletions, or cystic fibrosis can lead to infertility. In some cases, genetic abnormalities affect the production or function of sperm, while in others, they affect the structure of the reproductive organs.
9. Lifestyle Factors
Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, recreational drug use, and poor diet can all decrease sperm quality. Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining overall health, but excessive exercise or heat exposure (such as frequent use of saunas or hot tubs) may negatively impact sperm production.
10. Environmental and Occupational Factors
Exposure to environmental toxins and chemicals, such as pesticides, heavy metals, or industrial chemicals, can impair sperm production. Men working in occupations involving exposure to toxic substances, such as welding or chemical manufacturing, may have a higher risk of infertility. Similarly, radiation and prolonged exposure to high temperatures can also decrease sperm count and quality.
Early intervention, lifestyle changes, and medical treatments are often effective in overcoming male infertility. For those looking for expert care, Prashanth IVF offers the best treatment options for male fertility, with a team of specialists dedicated to providing personalized, cutting-edge solutions.

When König first met you, he had no desire to be a father. Growing up, his own father was abusive and distant. It’s always been a fear of his that he would turn out like him if he has his own. Then he met you. A single mom of a four-year-old daughter. It’s as if everything he thought he wanted suddenly changed.
Becoming a dad to your daughter, Sara, was like second nature. Even though he’s a massive scary man, Sara was never scared of him. Early in the relationship, he brought you a more reliable car and an apartment in a nicer area. While you weren’t his wife yet, but he knew you would be someday.
He was right because only one year later, the two of you got married. After only two months of being married, you missed a period. At your first ultrasound appointment, you were given the surprise of your life. One, two, three sacks. Three.
König nearly fainted looking at the image of three babies in your uterus. From that day on, he would brag to everyone and anyone. His first time getting a woman pregnant and it’s with triplets? That just proves how powerful his sperm is, right?
Today is Father’s Day morning. In the kitchen Sara, now nine, helps you cook breakfast for König. The triplets, two boys named John and James and one girl named Jessica, run around the kitchen screaming and trying to hit each other with plastic swords. They’re three years old and absolutely crazy.
“Hey, James, John, Jessica, why don’t you go get Daddy? Go tell him food is ready.” With mischievous little giggles, the three set off to wake König from his slumber.
Asleep peacefully in bed, König dreams of retirement on the beach when he feels a hard whack on his head. He slowly wakes up when another comes down hard. König can hear the sounds of their giggles, causing him to smile. He opens one eye and looks at Jessica, the one that’s been hitting him. She looks just like König, blondish hair and pale skin.
One more hit before König roars like a wild beast, causing all the kids to scream and scatter. His arm wraps around little Jessica that was the closest and brought her to him, pretending to eat her belly.
“Nom, nom, nom! Yummy children!” He yells as Jessica kicks her feet, giggling.
James and John run from the room laughing and yelling, “Daddy's a monster!” They shout, running to the kitchen.
König places Jessica on his shoulders as he crouches down and rushes after the boys. Jessica points forward at her brothers. “Get them!”
“Daddy will get all of you!”
As you continue to make pancakes and Sara sets the table, you can hear the commotion heading your way. Sara looks back at you with wide eyes as we hear König and Jessica’s evil laughs. James and John come running into the kitchen and hide behind Sara.
“Daddys a monster!” They repeat excitedly. “He ate Jessie!”
“Ahhhhh! I’ve found you!” König stomps, running into the kitchen. He rushes and grabs the boys while Jessica holds on to his head.
König freezes and looks at the table set, the red flowers in a vase, the smell of good food in the air. His gaze lands on the cards lined up on the kitchen counter too. A warm smile rushes over his face as he gently puts the boys down and then Jessica. He walks to Sara with a big smile and hugs her, kissing her forehead. She’s his first baby, who made him a dad, of course he has to thank her first.
“I love you, Blume.”
“I love you too, Dad.” Sara smiles and hugs him back.
Once he pulls away, he walks to you next. A flirty smile on his lips as he gazes down at you. A messy bun and stained pajamas, yet you look like an angel still. His large arms wrap around your body and squeeze you, the true reason he’s a dad. The woman who showed him it’s okay to feel vulnerable. You’re his whole world.
“I love you, Schatz.” König whispers as he leans down to kiss your lips tenderly. “Thank you for everything. My kids, this home, helping me heal, everything.” He picks you up in a deeper kiss.
“Ew.” Sara turns away rolling her eyes making you both laugh.
König sets you back down on your feet. “Thank you for breakfast.”
He takes a seat at the table; James comes over and crawls on to his lap as you sit the other two in their booster seats at the table. Sara leaves for a moment and comes back. She stands watching as König cuts up pancakes for the little ones. He senses her standing there.
“Ja, Blume?” He turns to look at her to see she’s holding a folder in her hand. “What’s this?”
“Um, I guess it’s something that’s been a long time coming.” Sara walks forward and hands it to him.
König opens it to see adoption paper work inside. Instantly tears begin to flood his tear line, making his vision blurry. He has no words as he looks down trying to choke back tears.
Jessica looks at König and points. “Daddy, don’t cry.”
James looks up at König and pats his face, causing König to cry. He stands with James in his arm and used the other to squeeze Sara in a big hug. Tears stream down the usually stoic and cold Austrian man’s face.
“I’ll be your dad.” He whispers to Sara. His silent tears turn to sobs as you place your hand on his back and caress him.
König never imagined his life turning soft. He never saw himself as a step dad or dad, now here he is. He’s been blessed for some reason with a beautiful wife and amazing children. There isn’t a day that doesn’t pass without him thanking which ever god sent you all to him.

I lost count how many times I read the same asks with exact same sentences (probably same people or person) explaining something is ‘weird’. even if it’s ‘weirdness’ or ‘off’ it’s crystal clear now the perceived weirdness isn’t strong enough to come between their relationship. he isn’t aware of kelly’s antics or maybe the hard truth: they got along so well because they are fundamentally similar people, they both support right wing politicians, they are both angry (max on track and yes sometimes also off track) and even petty lol. they both have horrible fathers who emotionally didnt give a crap about them, wasn’t nelson not sure kelly was his? Ir was it another overgrown sperm of his? at least jos sponsored max nelson left kelly alone, maybe this is another reason why she is so attached to material things. and also from julia’s instgram its evident who was the daddy’s favorite girl.
i have been around tumblr and I also thought (especially around his 3rd championship) that their relationship was weird, ngl. But i think the way they look weird is that max doesnt like pda when he is racing and kelly being a spoiled brat always forces him to. Is this a problem? Yes. But its clearly not getting between them and its his problem that he cant draw boundries even tho he rarely sees her. or this is his kink he likes to be overpowered by women, he is a libra after all 💀 again, this becomes a dynamic but its not an omen for breakup. they dont see this issue as a deal breaker because they are still together.
and this is also another way to improve your blog, by stop repeating the same stuff about them, it is boring at this point. we lost verstepponme, gossipgirlofficial my favorite blog. your blog is the rare blogs that we can still express ourselves and talk about these stuff. but please come with solid and new things, like sifferman thing, or when you point out how kelly tells people exact opposite of what she is doing or the fact that she lied in her resume, these are solid things because you can back them up with truth. and even tho i have been around i had no idea kelly lied that much about her employment status and qualifications and education history! see this is good, because you have evidence.
but everybody here collectively have the same ‘feeling’ about their relationship: this is boring, cannot be explained with any solid reference and it has been repeated at least 100 times over years and its still not true. because after 5 years of not breaking up its not hunch its their wishful thinking.
I appreciate the thought you put into this, but I think you're missing the point. It's not "when will they break up?" It's "why does this relationship look the way it does?"
Yeah, their similarities might be part of why they work. But that doesn’t erase the glaring power imbalance or the fact that their relationship is built on something deeply unsettling. It’s not just about having bad dads. Kelly groomed Max. She inserted herself into his social sphere when he was barely an adult, maintained a presence in his life while he was still with someone else, and built their dynamic around control.
That’s why they "work." Not because of some mutual understanding of childhood neglect but because Kelly ensured Max would see her as a guiding force, someone he "needs" in his life. That’s not love. That’s conditioning.
And look, I get that some of these conversations can feel repetitive, but people are trying to make sense of a dynamic that is deliberately manufactured to look normal. The reason the resume lies and the contradictions are interesting is because they expose a pattern. Kelly is someone who carefully curates her image and narrative, and her relationship with Max is no exception. If that’s "boring" to some people, fine. But pretending it’s irrelevant just because they’re still together is missing the bigger picture.

sorry i'm sending you a million asks because tumblr hates me. yes i'm okay and yeah i do try to pretend but unfortunately my viceral fear shines through my façade of calm like sunlight through stained glass. perhaps distorted or a bit lovelier but still very, very obvious in any of my interactions.
bonus, however; it's kind of offputting and it makes me seem mysterious when i don't talk to anyone. so people really only speak to me if they have to...
i need to stop going to parties because i'm sure no one would be severely offended if i decline...but i feel a sense of duty when i'm invited somewhere. i'm going to play at being a nice guest and play at being Normal and i'm going to do guest things like... um. guest things.
there's only been one time i've challenged someone to a duel and it was mostly a joke. and there was one horrifying time i was forced to play an improv speech game and my prompt was about how the sperm bank milked me dry. that was memorably mortifying. i cried while giving said speech. everyone loved it but i was truly awful.
I think it takes a lot of time, effort, and work to have the confidence and not fear interactions. I used to be the same up until about a year and a half ago. i don't like going to parties, I hardly go out unless I have to or I feel like it. so on whether or not you should still go to some, ask yourself if it's something you really want. if you think it's selfish, then be selfish. (it's not selfish, but the guilt goes away eventually).
I've known you for like a day and a half but I think you're really amazing. I know it's easier to be yourself online- especially since it's also easy to find people with the same interests as you- but it still counts.

Latest IVF Techniques & How They Improve Success Rates
In today’s world, many couples face problems when trying to have a baby. This is often due to health issues, stress, lifestyle habits, or increasing age. Thanks to modern science, there is hope. One of the most effective solutions is IVF, or In-Vitro Fertilization. Over the years, IVF has improved a lot with new and advanced techniques that are helping more couples achieve their dream of becoming parents.
Tumblr media
In this blog, we will talk about the latest IVF techniques and how they increase the chances of success. If you are someone considering IVF or want to understand more about it, this guide is perfect for you.
What is IVF?
IVF stands for In-Vitro Fertilization. It is a process where a woman’s eggs are taken from her body and combined with a man’s sperm in a laboratory. Once the egg is fertilized, it becomes an embryo. Then, the embryo is placed back into the woman’s uterus so it can grow into a baby.
Why Do People Choose IVF?
There are many reasons why a couple might need IVF. Some common reasons include:
Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
Low sperm count or sperm movement issues
Ovulation problems
Unexplained infertility
Age-related fertility issues
Latest IVF Techniques
Now let’s look at the newest methods that are helping improve the success of IVF treatments.
1. Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
PGT is a technique used to check if the embryo has any genetic problems before it is placed into the uterus. By using this method, only healthy embryos are selected, which improves the chance of a successful pregnancy and reduces the risk of miscarriage.
2. Embryo Freezing (Vitrification)
Earlier, freezing embryos would damage them, but now a process called vitrification is used. It freezes the embryos so fast that there are no ice crystals. This keeps the embryo safe and increases success when it is later placed into the womb.
3. Time-Lapse Imaging
This method allows doctors to monitor the embryos 24/7 without removing them from their environment. It helps choose the healthiest embryo, which improves the success rate.
4. Blastocyst Culture
In this method, the embryos are grown for five days before being placed in the uterus. Growing them longer helps in choosing the strongest embryo, which raises the chance of pregnancy.
5. Minimal Stimulation IVF
This method uses fewer medicines to produce eggs. It is less stressful for the body, and although fewer eggs are collected, they are often of better quality.
6. ERA (Endometrial Receptivity Analysis)
Sometimes, even good embryos don’t lead to pregnancy. The ERA test checks the best time when the uterus is ready to accept the embryo, making the timing perfect.
How These Techniques Improve IVF Success Rates
All these new technologies work together to:
Select the best quality embryos
Lower the chances of failure
Reduce miscarriage risk
Improve chances of a healthy baby
IVF success rates are better now than ever before. Earlier, people needed many attempts, but with these techniques, even the first or second try can be successful.
Why Jaipur is Becoming a Popular Choice for IVF
Jaipur is growing fast as a hub for quality IVF treatments. There are many clinics offering the latest techniques with experienced doctors. People from nearby cities and even other states are visiting here for their treatment.
If you're looking for the best IVF centre in Jaipur, you'll find clinics that are equipped with modern labs, friendly staff, and good success rates. Many of them also offer guidance, counselling, and support throughout the process.
For those worried about expenses, it's important to understand that treatment cost in jaipur can vary depending on the clinic, number of cycles, medicines, and tests required. However, many clinics offer budget-friendly packages or EMI options to support couples.
Along with that, choosing a trusted IVF hospital in jaipur ensures that you get access to trained staff, emergency care, and full-time monitoring. Most clinics today are focused not only on treatment but also on patient comfort and emotional well-being.
Also, if you’re looking for the best doctor in jaipur, it’s a good idea to check their experience, success stories, and how well they guide patients. A good doctor always explains things in a simple way and supports patients like family.
Lastly, having the right infertility specialist in jaipur makes a big difference. They don’t just treat patients but also understand their emotions and guide them in the right direction.
Final Thoughts
Going through infertility can be a tough journey, but with the latest IVF techniques and proper guidance, it’s becoming easier for many couples to fulfill their dream of having a baby. If you are planning IVF, don’t lose hope. Get the right information, visit a good clinic, and believe in the process.
Jaipur has become a trusted city for such treatments with advanced care and expert support. Whether you are just starting or already tried treatments before, it’s never too late to try again with better options.

What is Stress and How Does It Affect the Body?
Stress is your body’s natural reaction to a difficult situation. It can be due to personal issues, job pressure, family expectations, or the struggle of not being able to conceive. When you are stressed, your body produces hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones are helpful in danger, but too much of them can disturb your body’s natural balance.
Tumblr media
For women, stress can affect the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and hormone levels. For men, it can reduce sperm count and sperm quality. This means that stress can directly reduce the chances of pregnancy, even if both partners are physically healthy.
How Mental Health Is Linked to Fertility
Mental health includes how we think, feel, and act. If someone is feeling anxious, depressed, or constantly worried, it affects their mental well-being. Many couples who visit a Fertility Center in Indore or anywhere else often share that they feel emotionally drained during fertility treatment.
Poor mental health can lead to:
Irregular periods
Poor sleep
Unhealthy eating habits
Reduced sexual interest
Hormonal imbalance
All these things can make it harder to conceive naturally or even through treatments like IVF.
What is IVF and Why Do Couples Choose It?
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a popular fertility treatment where the egg and sperm are combined outside the body in a lab, and then the embryo is placed into the woman’s uterus. IVF has helped many couples become parents, especially those who couldn't conceive naturally.
Many couples in Madhya Pradesh are turning to the Top IVF center in Indore for quality treatment and better chances of success.
How Stress Affects IVF Outcomes
IVF is a long and emotional journey. It includes multiple hospital visits, hormone injections, egg retrieval, and embryo transfer. Naturally, couples go through a rollercoaster of emotions – hope, fear, disappointment, and joy. If stress is not managed during this time, it can reduce the success rate of IVF in the following ways:
Hormonal Imbalance: Stress can disturb the hormonal balance needed for egg development and implantation.
Lower Egg Quality: High stress can affect the quality of eggs, which is very important for IVF success.
Uterine Environment: Stress may reduce blood flow to the uterus, making it harder for the embryo to implant.
Less Sperm Quality in Men: Men under stress may produce less active or healthy sperm.
Poor Lifestyle Choices: Stress can lead to smoking, drinking, or overeating – all of which reduce fertility.
So, if you’re undergoing IVF, keeping your mind calm is just as important as taking your medicines.
What Can You Do to Manage Stress During IVF?
Thankfully, there are many ways to manage stress and improve your mental health during fertility treatment. Some simple methods include:
Talk to a Counselor: Many infertility specialists in Indore suggest counseling or therapy for couples going through IVF. Talking helps reduce emotional pressure.
Do Yoga and Meditation: These age-old Indian practices are very helpful in calming the mind and improving body functions. Just 20–30 minutes a day can make a big difference.
Join Support Groups: Talking to other couples facing the same situation can make you feel less alone and more hopeful.
Eat Healthy and Stay Active: A balanced diet and light exercise can improve mood and reduce stress.
Spend Time with Family and Friends: Emotional support from loved ones can give you strength to face this journey.
Take a Break if Needed: Sometimes, taking a small break before continuing IVF can help your body and mind recover.
How Clinics Are Helping with Mental Health Support
Today, many fertility clinics understand the importance of mental health. A good ivf center in indore will offer not just treatment but also emotional support. This includes counseling sessions, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle advice. Some clinics also organize workshops and group therapy sessions to help patients manage stress.
IVF Cost and Emotional Investment
IVF is not just a medical treatment; it’s also an emotional and financial investment. Many couples worry about the IVF cost in Indore, which adds more stress to an already emotional journey. But remember, every clinic offers different packages. It is important to choose the Best IVF Center in Indore that not only fits your budget but also supports your emotional well-being.
Sometimes, a slightly higher cost at a center that provides complete care – physical and emotional – can lead to better results and a happier experience.
Why It’s Important to Choose the Right IVF Center
Not all IVF centers are the same. When selecting a clinic, make sure they care about your mental and emotional health as much as your physical treatment. A Top IVF center in Indore will have:
Experienced doctors and staff
In-house counselors or psychologists
Modern lab technology
Transparent pricing
High success rates
Positive patient reviews
Remember, IVF is not just about science; it’s also about hope, trust, and patience.
Conclusion
Fertility treatment is a sensitive and emotional journey. While science and medicine play a big role, the power of the mind should never be underestimated. Managing stress and taking care of your mental health can greatly improve your chances of success during IVF.
If you’re planning to start your journey, choose a reliable Fertility Center in Indore that understands this complete picture. A clinic that offers more than just treatment – one that offers care, counseling, and compassion.
Whether you’re looking for the Best IVF Center in Indore, or just want to understand more about the IVF cost in Indore, remember to take care of your mind along with your body. After all, a calm mind and a healthy heart create the best environment for new life to grow.

IVF Success Rates by Age: What You Need to Know
Tumblr media
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) has brought new hope to countless couples facing infertility challenges. With advancements in science and technology, IVF success rates have significantly improved. However, one crucial factor that continues to influence treatment outcomes is age. Understanding how age impacts IVF success can empower individuals and couples to make informed choices about their fertility journey. If you're exploring options, consulting a trusted IVF center in Ahmedabad can provide personalised guidance and support every step of the way.
Understanding IVF and Its Process
IVF is a fertility treatment in which an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body, and the resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus. The process involves several steps:
Ovarian stimulation
Egg retrieval
Fertilization
Embryo culture
Embryo transfer
Pregnancy testing
The success of IVF depends on many variables, including overall health, lifestyle, the underlying cause of infertility, and most importantly—the woman’s age.
How Age Affects IVF Success Rates
Age impacts both the quantity and quality of a woman's eggs. As a woman ages, especially after 35, her ovarian reserve declines, and the remaining eggs are more likely to have chromosomal abnormalities.
Let’s break down IVF success rates by age:
Under 35 Years
Success Rate: Around 40–50% per IVF cycle
Why High? Women in this age group generally have a higher egg count and better egg quality. The uterus is also more receptive to embryo implantation.
Age 35–37
Success Rate: Around 35–40% per cycle
Fertility Note: Slight decline in egg quality begins, though many women still conceive successfully with IVF.
Age 38–40
Success Rate: Around 25–30% per cycle
Concerns: The quantity and quality of eggs continue to decrease. Fertility clinics may recommend additional support like preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A).
Age 41–42
Success Rate: Around 10–20% per cycle
Challenges: Chromosomal abnormalities become more common. Many women in this age group consider using donor eggs.
Age 43 and Above
Success Rate: Less than 10% per cycle
Options: Using donor eggs is often recommended to improve chances of a successful pregnancy.
IVF Success Rates with Donor Eggs
Donor eggs significantly improve the success rates for women over 40. Why? Because the quality of the eggs, not the uterus, is the primary limiting factor. With donor eggs (usually from women in their 20s or early 30s), IVF success rates can be as high as:
50–60% per cycle, regardless of the recipient’s age.
Male Age and IVF Success
While male fertility declines more gradually, age can still affect sperm quality and IVF outcomes. Men over 45 may have lower sperm motility and increased DNA fragmentation, potentially reducing IVF success.
Ways to Improve IVF Success at Any Age
Regardless of age, there are steps you can take to increase your chances of success:
Maintain a healthy BMI
Avoid smoking and alcohol
Take prenatal vitamins with folic acid
Manage stress through yoga, meditation, or counselling
Follow your fertility specialist's advice closely
When to See a Fertility Specialist
Under 35: If you’ve been trying to conceive for over 12 months without success
Over 35: Seek help after 6 months
Over 40: Consider seeing a specialist immediately

Male Infertility Treatment: When and How to Begin
Tumblr media
Male infertility treatment is an important part of helping couples who are facing issues in conceiving due to male-related issues. It includes checking the male partner’s fertility health and finding the right treatment based on the cause. It’s important to consult with your fertility specialist to get the right guidance. By this way, men can improve their chances of becoming a parent through proper treatment and care.
At RISAA IVF, Dr. Rita Bakshi and her team provide full support and care for male infertility. In this blog, we will discuss everything about male infertility. We will include its causes, how it is diagnosed, and the different treatment options available to help couples start their family.
What is Male Infertility?
Male infertility means a man is having issues in making his partner pregnant, even after trying for a year without protection. It usually happens when there are problems with the sperm. It includes low sperm count, poor movement, or abnormal shape. Sometimes, there may also be issues with sperm delivery. Male infertility is common and can be treated with the right medical help and support.
Male Infertility Symptoms
Most men with infertility may not notice any clear signs until they try to have a baby. However, some common symptoms can include:
They face trouble in getting their partner pregnant
Low sex drive
Problems with erection or ejaculation
Pain, swelling, or lumps in the testicles
Decreased facial or body hair
Fewer or abnormal sperm found in semen tests
Common Causes of Male Infertility
Male infertility can happen due to many reasons, some related to health and others to lifestyle. Here are some of the most common causes:
Low sperm count: Fewer sperm reduce the chance of fertilizing an egg.
Poor sperm movement (motility): Sperm must swim well to reach the egg.
Abnormal sperm shape (morphology): Irregularly shaped sperm may not fertilize the egg.
Varicocele: Swollen veins in the testicle that affect sperm production.
Hormone imbalance: Low testosterone or other hormone issues.
Infections: Conditions like mumps or STIs can damage sperm health.
Lifestyle habits: Smoking, alcohol, drug use, and obesity can affect fertility.
Exposure to heat or toxins: Frequent use of hot tubs, or exposure to chemicals or radiation.
Genetic issues: Some men are born with genetic problems that affect sperm production.
Note: It’s important to understand the cause to find the right male infertility treatment. It’s better to consult a fertility specialist for proper guidance. You can also consult Dr. Rita Bakshi (Senior IVF Specialist) to know about your fertility health.
Male Infertility Diagnosis
It’s important to find the cause of male infertility. To find this, doctors do a few simple and painless tests. These tests help to understand the sperm’s health and any possible issues. Some common diagnosis steps include the following:
Semen analysis: This checks the number, shape, and movement of sperm.
Hormone tests: It helps to see if hormone levels like testosterone are normal.
Physical exam: The doctor checks for problems like swollen veins or testicle issues.
Scrotal ultrasound: A scan to check for blockages or swelling in the testicles.
Genetic testing: If needed, to find inherited conditions that may affect fertility.
Urine test after ejaculation: To check for sperm in the urine (retrograde ejaculation).
These tests help the doctor find the best male infertility treatment for every individual. A fertility specialist will understand your health history and suggest the best way to help you conceive.
Male Infertility Treatment Options
There are different ways to treat male infertility and it depends on the cause. Some men may only need simple changes in their lifestyle and there are some others who may need medical help. Here are the most common male infertility treatment options:
Medicines: Hormone therapy or other medicines to improve sperm count and quality.
Lifestyle changes: It’s important to eat healthy, quit smoking, reduce alcohol, manage stress, and maintain a healthy weight.
Supplements: Some vitamins and antioxidants may help improve sperm health.
Surgery: For conditions like varicocele (swollen veins) or to fix a blockage in the sperm pathway.
Sperm retrieval: When sperm is not present in the semen, it can sometimes be taken directly from the testicles.
Assisted reproductive techniques: It includes treatments like IVF or ICSI, where the sperm is directly injected into the egg to help with fertilization.
IVF and ICSI for Male Infertility
IVF for male infertility is an effective option when sperm issues are present, such as low sperm count, poor sperm movement, or abnormal sperm shape. In a standard IVF process, eggs and sperm are combined in a lab dish for fertilization. However, when sperm issues affect natural fertilization there are techniques like ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) which are used to help the couple.
In ICSI, a single healthy sperm is injected directly into an egg. It helps with fertilization, especially when sperm issues are serious. This is commonly used in IVF for male infertility when sperm count is low or when sperm needs to be retrieved directly from the testicles. IVF and ICSI work together to solve sperm-related issues. It helps to increase the chances of successful pregnancy for couples who are facing male infertility.
Azoospermia and IVF
Azoospermia is a condition where there is no sperm in the semen and can make natural conception hard. This can happen due to a blockage in the sperm ducts or problems with sperm production in the testicles. However, IVF helps those men who have azoospermia.
In IVF, even if no sperm is present in the semen, sperm can be directly retrieved from the testicles using techniques like TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) or PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration). Once sperm is retrieved, it can be injected into the egg using ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) and increases the chances of fertilization.
When Should You See a Fertility Doctor?
It’s important to see a fertility doctor if you and your partner have been trying to conceive for a year or more without success. For women over 35, it’s recommended to seek help after six months of trying. If you have a known medical condition, such as low sperm count, or a history of surgeries or infections that can affect fertility then it’s important to see a doctor immediately.
Additionally, if you experience symptoms like erectile dysfunction (ED) or abnormal sperm health then it’s best to consult a fertility specialist for advice and proper testing. A fertility expert can help you through diagnosis and male infertility treatment to help you become parents.
Final Word
Male infertility treatment plays a very crucial role for couples who are facing difficulty in getting pregnant. In this blog, we have shared the causes, diagnosis, and treatment options for male infertility, including advanced methods like IVF and ICSI. We hope this helps you understand the available solutions and choose the right treatment to become parents. Exploring IUI Treatment: A Fertility Solution for Hopeful Parents
Every journey to parenthood is different and unique. For many hopeful parents, achieving a successful pregnancy can sometimes seem like a challenging road. But what if there was a solution that could help increase your chances of conceiving without the complexity of other procedures? IUI Treatment in Chembur is one such solution that has brought hope to countless couples struggling with fertility issues.
This blog will share an insight into the world of Intrauterine insemination (IUI) and how it works to improve your fertility; read through it all to get information before opting for the treatment.
Tumblr media
What is IUI Treatment?
IUI, or Intrauterine Insemination, is a fertility procedure where sperm is inserted directly into the uterus during the ovulation phase. This is because when sperm are injected during ovulation, it increases the chance of fertilizing the ovum. Inseminating sperm directly beyond the cervix surpasses potential barriers like cervical mucus. It’s normally recommended for couples with certain fertility issues, such as:
Low sperm count or low sperm motility in men.
Cervical issues that prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
Unexplained infertility in couples.
How Does IUI Treatment Work?
The process of IUI treatment includes a few steps. These steps are customized to suit each couple’s fertility requirements.
Ovarian Stimulation: The first step usually involves medication to stimulate the ovaries. However, this step is only required in some cases to encourage the release of more than one egg.
Monitoring Ovulation: Your doctor will closely monitor your ovulation cycle using ultrasounds and blood tests. These tests will help track hormone levels and identify the perfect time for insemination.
Sperm Preparation: In this step, a sperm sample is collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. The sperm is then processed and concentrated to improve the chances of successful insemination.
Insemination: When the ovulation day arrives, the prepared sperm will be carefully injected into the uterus using a thin catheter. The process is fairly quick and relatively painless, usually taking only a few minutes.
Post-Treatment Care: Once the procedure is completed, your gynecologist will advise you to rest for a short while before continuing with normal activities.
You can take a pregnancy test 10-14 after the treatment is done to confirm if the procedure was successful.
