my take on Squid game vs. Alice in BL
(ive only watched three episodes of aib)
so ive seen alot of people online saying Alice in BL is better than squid game. however, i dont think thats the case.
both shows do amazing things
first off i think theres no comparison between two shows. and no, this isnt a sugar-coated way of saying that aib is out of squiggame's league or anything .
aib is a thriller that consantly puts you in suspense and at the edge of your seat. squid game is a social commentary
In defense of Squidgame
Everyone knows why so many people think aib is better. it has more mystery, higher stakes and less, well, absurdity. and thats true. aib is a thriller. an action thiller. the only people who will survive it are really physically skilled ones (like the jiker girl) , the exceedingly smart ones and arisu. thats it. the rest of the people can go to hell. this is survival of the fittest.
squidgame however, is about something else entirely. it is about the psychological effects of being thrust into the unknown and cut off from the world. it shows how money can drive people to extreme lengths and make them go insane.
Squiggame is a social commentary on the state of Korea (and other places). how much people can suffer just because they werent born rich. how much gambling, addiction, investing without knowing how to play the game can make a person's life a living hell
i didnt watch aib so i dont know why the games are happening, but i think that vips in squid game are the most imporant part. to the rich people the suffering of the poor is nothing but a joke. to them, the unfortunate are the same as horses, something inhumane something worthless. this is also how the real world works. to the rich, poor people are nothing but a statistic, something to exploit without consequence. thats why things like multibillionaire companies keep raising prices and decreasing wages and commit unethical crimes, they know no ones coming to stop them.
relatability
when watching aib , i know for a fact that if i was in the game id die immediately by slipping on ice or something, or maybe of panic. point is 1) the aib games are designed to torture you, to drive you insane. 2) i dont think anyone realistically thinks they can survive more than 2 games (unless theyre physically built idk)
in squid game tho? the characters are real. you can tell by their reactions to other people dying, to the guards etc. these are real people being thrust into circumstances out of their control. another thing, these people are all obviously penniless, most of them are in extreme debts. they are struggling in their own lives, doors slamming shut in every direction they go in. these people, are something to sympathise with, soemthing to understand on a deeper level than is shown.
speaking of real, squid game focuses on the lengths that these people would go through for their lives, or even worse, for money. its about how money can drive people insane, incapable of empathy because sympathy for themselves blinds them ,renders them incapable or being trusted with anyone other than themselves.
the paradox
one line for squid game really hit me. during the voting , a young man from X said to everyone, that out there they can fix their lives again by working hard etc. and then a middle aged man from O said something along the lines of, young man! you still have a chance out there because you are young! noone is willing to give a hand to people like me anymore.
that really hit me. its not like the people who stay want to die, its just that they know that life out there is a living hell for them anyways. in here they have an even playing field, a final chance to set their life on track.
the only thing sorta common in both series is showcasing the human will to survive. like literally thats it.
sorry for the long rant for squiggame, i just get so pissed off when ppl blindly say aib is better that sg, even though they carry out completely different narratives ( and excel in them)
hopefully after i finish aib ill make an essay abt it too (i already have some points)

Why Do People Faint? Common Causes and Prevention Tips
Fainting, also known as syncope, is a temporary loss of consciousness caused by a sudden drop in blood flow to the brain. It can happen to anyone, and while it is usually harmless, it may sometimes indicate an underlying medical issue.
People faint for many reasons, such as standing for too long, experiencing extreme emotions, or having a health condition that affects circulation. Understanding why fainting happens and how to prevent it can help you or someone around you stay safe.
In this article, we’ll explore the most common causes of fainting, how to prevent it, and when to seek medical help.
Key Takeaways
Fainting happens when there is a temporary decrease in blood flow to the brain.
Common causes include dehydration, low blood sugar, sudden changes in posture, and certain medical conditions.
Most fainting episodes are not dangerous, but recurring fainting may require medical attention.
Prevention tips include staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, and avoiding prolonged standing.
If someone faints, help them lie down and elevate their legs to restore blood flow.
What Causes Fainting?
Fainting can occur for various reasons, from simple lifestyle factors to serious medical conditions.
A Sudden Drop in Blood Pressure (Vasovagal Syncope)
Vasovagal syncope is the most common cause of fainting and happens when the nervous system overreacts to certain triggers. These include:
Standing for long periods
Experiencing strong emotions, such as fear or stress
Seeing blood or needles
Dehydration or overheating
This type of fainting is usually harmless and resolves quickly.
Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia)
Low blood sugar can cause fainting, especially in people with diabetes. Symptoms before fainting may include:
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Sweating and weakness
Confusion or shakiness
Eating a healthy diet and avoiding long gaps between meals can help prevent fainting due to low blood sugar.
Dehydration and Overheating
Lack of fluids can reduce blood volume, leading to fainting. Common causes include:
Not drinking enough water, especially in hot weather
Excessive sweating without replenishing fluids
Vomiting or diarrhea that leads to fluid loss
Staying hydrated and avoiding excessive heat can help prevent dehydration-related fainting.
Sudden Changes in Posture (Orthostatic Hypotension)
A rapid change in position, such as standing up too quickly, can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to fainting. This is more common in:
Older adults
People taking blood pressure medications
Those who are dehydrated
To prevent this, stand up slowly and give your body time to adjust.
Heart Conditions and Blood Circulation Issues
Some cases of fainting are linked to serious heart problems, such as:
Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
Blocked arteries
Low heart rate
If fainting happens frequently or is accompanied by chest pain, seek medical attention immediately.
Neurological Conditions
In rare cases, fainting may be linked to conditions affecting the brain, such as:
Epilepsy
Stroke
Migraines
If fainting includes seizures or confusion, consult a doctor for further evaluation.
How to Prevent Fainting
While some causes of fainting are unavoidable, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk.
Stay Hydrated
Drink enough water throughout the day, especially in hot weather or after exercise.
Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, as they can cause dehydration.
Eat Regular, Balanced Meals
Avoid skipping meals to maintain stable blood sugar levels.
Include protein and healthy carbohydrates in your diet.
Avoid Prolonged Standing or Sudden Position Changes
Shift your weight when standing for long periods.
If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down immediately.
Stand up slowly, especially after sitting or lying down for a while.
Manage Stress and Anxiety
Practice deep breathing exercises or meditation.
If you are prone to fainting in stressful situations, prepare yourself mentally and take breaks when needed.
Recognize Warning Signs
Common warning signs before fainting include dizziness, nausea, and blurred vision.
If you feel these symptoms, sit down and place your head between your knees or lie down to prevent a full fainting episode.
What to Do If Someone Faints
If you see someone faint, take these steps to help them recover:
Lay them down on a flat surface and elevate their legs to restore blood flow to the brain.
Loosen tight clothing to improve circulation.
Check their breathing and ensure their airway is clear.
Let them rest for a few minutes until they feel stable.
Offer water once they regain consciousness, if they are not nauseous.
Call emergency services if:
The person does not regain consciousness within a minute.
They have difficulty breathing or chest pain.
They hit their head when they fell.
They have a known heart condition or history of frequent fainting.
Conclusion
Fainting is usually not a cause for concern, but it can sometimes signal an underlying health issue. Understanding the causes of fainting—whether it’s dehydration, low blood sugar, or a heart-related problem—can help you take steps to prevent it.
If you or someone you know faints frequently, it’s best to consult a doctor for further evaluation. Taking simple precautions, like staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged standing, can reduce the risk of fainting episodes and keep you safe.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Is fainting dangerous?
Most fainting episodes are harmless and caused by temporary factors like dehydration or standing too long. However, if fainting happens frequently or is accompanied by other symptoms, it may require medical attention.

How Bariatric Surgery Helps Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally
Type 2 diabetes has long been considered a progressive, chronic disease. However, recent medical breakthroughs show that it’s possible to reverse diabetes naturally — and bariatric surgery plays a key role in this transformation.
Leading experts like Dr. Shashank Shah, a pioneer in metabolic surgery, are helping thousands of patients not only lose weight but also achieve complete remission of type 2 diabetes.

What Happens to Diabetes After Bariatric Surgery?
Bariatric surgeries such as gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy don’t just help you lose weight — they fundamentally change the way your body processes sugar and insulin.
Within days to weeks after surgery (even before significant weight loss), many patients experience:
Normal blood sugar levels
Reduction or elimination of diabetes medications
Improved insulin sensitivity
Studies show that up to 80% of patients achieve complete remission of type 2 diabetes after bariatric surgery.
How Does Bariatric Surgery Reverse Diabetes?
✅ Hormonal Changes Surgery alters gut hormones like GLP-1 and PYY, which improve insulin secretion and reduce insulin resistance almost immediately.
✅ Reduced Insulin Resistance Weight loss decreases fatty deposits around the liver and pancreas, restoring normal insulin function.
✅ Enhanced Beta-Cell Function The pancreas regains its ability to produce insulin properly, helping control blood sugar without medication.
✅ Reduced Inflammation Lower fat mass means lower systemic inflammation, which also contributes to better glucose metabolism.
Who Can Benefit Most?
Patients with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes
Individuals with poor blood sugar control despite medications
Patients with BMI ≥ 30 who struggle with weight management
Those who want to reduce dependency on insulin or oral drugs
Early intervention often leads to higher chances of diabetes remission after surgery.

Why Do So Many Women Over 40 Suddenly Develop Food Sensitivities?
Ever Wonder Why You Experience More Food Sensitivities As You Age?
If you're a woman over 40 who has recently started experiencing discomfort or unexpected reactions to food, you're not alone. Food sensitivities seem to crop up out of nowhere for many women in midlife, leading to frustrating symptoms like bloating, brain fog, and fatigue. As someone who has navigated this firsthand, I can tell you that the issue isn’t just *in your head*—it’s in your hormones, gut health, and even your environment.
There’s a complex interplay of biological, lifestyle, and environmental factors at work, and understanding them can be empowering. Let’s break it all down.
What Are Food Sensitivities?
Food sensitivities, also called food intolerances, involve difficulty digesting certain foods, which can trigger unpleasant symptoms. Unlike food allergies that involve the immune system in a more immediate and severe reaction, sensitivities tend to be more subtle and harder to diagnose. Symptoms might include:
- Digestive issues (bloating, cramps, diarrhea, or constipation)
- Fatigue
- Headaches or migraines
- Skin issues like eczema or acne
- Brain fog, mood swings, or irritability
The foods most commonly linked to sensitivities include dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, and certain food additives like preservatives or artificial sweeteners. But why do these sensitivities seem to emerge—or worsen—after age 40?
Aging and Digestion: The Gut of the Matter
As we age, our digestive systems naturally begin to slow down. This means food spends more time in your gastrointestinal tract, giving gut bacteria more opportunity to ferment undigested food. This process can lead to gas, bloating, and other symptoms often mistaken for food sensitivities. Additionally, the production of digestive enzymes like lactase often decreases over time, making it harder to break down certain foods, such as dairy.
For example, lactose intolerance—a sensitivity to the sugar in milk—becomes increasingly common with age. About 65% of the global population has reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy, but this doesn’t always appear until adulthood.
Gut Microbiome Imbalances
Your gut microbiome, the collection of bacteria and other microorganisms in your digestive tract, plays a crucial role in how your body processes food. Poor diet, high stress levels, and antibiotic use can disrupt this delicate ecosystem, leading to "leaky gut." Leaky gut occurs when your intestinal lining becomes too permeable, allowing undigested food particles to "leak" into your bloodstream, triggering an immune response. This condition is strongly linked to food sensitivities.
Hormonal Fluctuations and Food Sensitivities
The hormonal shifts that occur during perimenopause and menopause can also impact gut and immune health. Key hormones such as estrogen and progesterone decline, which can weaken the integrity of your intestinal lining and exacerbate inflammation.
Furthermore, elevated cortisol levels from chronic stress—a common condition among women juggling midlife responsibilities—can impair digestion and lead to dysbiosis, an imbalance in gut bacteria.
Cross-Reactivity and Oral Allergy Syndrome
It’s not just hormones that change after 40. Your immune system shifts too, often becoming more reactive. Some women experience cross-reactivity, where the immune system confuses proteins in certain foods with environmental allergens like pollen. This is known as Oral Allergy Syndrome and can cause itchy or swollen mouths after eating raw fruits or nuts.
Environmental and Lifestyle Factors
The food industry has changed significantly in recent decades. Increased use of preservatives, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), pesticides, and artificial additives has introduced more potential triggers for food sensitivities. For instance, emulsifiers and thickeners in processed foods can irritate the gut lining.
Stress, a sedentary lifestyle, and poor sleep habits—common in busy midlife—can further compromise digestive health. Women who have had children may also experience physical changes to the gut and abdomen that make digestion less efficient.
Recognizing the Symptoms
The symptoms of food sensitivities may be subtle or delayed, making them tricky to identify. Here are common signs to watch for:
- Bloating or abdominal pain after meals
- Fatigue or difficulty concentrating ("brain fog")
- Skin reactions like rashes or acne
- Joint pain or stiffness
- Persistent headaches or migraines
If these symptoms seem familiar, it might be time to take a closer look at your diet and overall health.
How to Address Food Sensitivities After 40
1. Track Your Symptoms: Keep a food journal to identify patterns between what you eat and how you feel.
2. Consider Testing: Consult a healthcare provider about food sensitivity tests or an elimination diet, which can help pinpoint problem foods.
3. Restore Gut Health: Probiotics, fermented foods, and prebiotic-rich fibers can help rebuild your gut microbiome. Bone broth and collagen are also great for promoting gut lining repair.
4. Balance Hormones: Support hormonal balance through proper nutrition, stress reduction, and possibly natural supplements like magnesium, DIM, or adaptogens (though consult your doctor).
5. Limit Processed Foods: Opt for whole, natural foods to reduce exposure to additives and chemicals that might irritate your gut.
6. Address Stress: Stress is a major driver of gut dysfunction. Incorporate mindfulness practices, gentle exercise, or even therapy to manage chronic stress.
7. Seek Professional Help: Always consult a doctor or nutritionist if symptoms persist. Diagnosing and treating conditions like hypothyroidism or leaky gut can significantly improve food sensitivities.
The Silver Lining
While the process of developing food sensitivities after 40 can feel frustrating, it’s also an opportunity. Many women find that adapting their diets and lifestyles leads to improved energy, better digestion, and even more radiant skin. Your body is sending you signals—it’s just a matter of listening and adjusting.
By focusing on gut health and understanding the hormonal and environmental changes of midlife, women over 40 can take charge of their well-being and feel their best again. Your journey might bring you to new, healthier habits that benefit not just your digestive system but your entire body—and that’s a gift worth savoring.

¶ … new respiratory drugs that have been approved for medical use over the past decade. The paper will highlight the diagnoses of the drugs i.e. when and why it is prescribed, how it is meant to be used and how often, its side effects, the impact for a missed dose or an overdose along with any other relevant information that will add depth to it appropriate use. The main purpose for the respiratory drugs is to help cure the ailments directly or indirectly related to the functioning of lungs or general breathing of an individual. There are numerous sectors where studies on new respiratory drugs can be carried out and some of the most recent studies to include this particular aspect include allergies, asthma attacks, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), pneumonia and sinus infections. In this paper we will focus on the following new respiratory drugs: Arcapta, Daliresp, Dulera, Tyvaso, Alvesco, Brovana and Symbicort. All of these respiratory drugs were approved within the past decade to cure different aspects of lung or breathing issues in certain circumstances. Arcapta Arcapta, also known as Onbrez, was developed by Novartis and received its approval for use in 2011. It is a long-acting, beta drug that is primarily diagnosed to treat the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is used as the remedy for airflow obstruction that is caused thereof in patients. It is a dry powdered inhaler that is taken once daily that is available for the COPD patient in the form of an aerosol formulation (Beeh et al., 2007). Arcapta functions by relaxing the muscles around the lungs which in turn reduces stress that might be experienced when dealing with a breathing problem that could lead to extreme coughing, chest tightness or shortness of breath. Arcapta is usually prescribed to those individuals who have a cardiovascular problem, blood pressure issues, seizures, diabetes, etc. In case, a dose is forgotten, it must be taken immediately after and only one dose should be taken in a 24-hour cycle. Arcapta must not be swallowed and taken only with the Neohaler inhaler. Some of the side effects for Arcapta might include a worsening of the conditions that it was meant to cure i.e. shortness of breath, irregular heat beta, high B.P., chest pains, coughing, high blood sugar, headaches, etc. (Beeh et al., 2007). A clinical trial was conducted in 2010 across the United States, Belgium and New Zealand where the safe use if Arcapta in COPD patients was compared to placebo. The sample for this trial included a total of 416 COPD patients who had either medium or severe case of pulmonary disease. The trial showed that Arcapta was more successful than placebo in the following ways: it improved the FEVI levels from where they started (i.e. 1.5L) and reduced the need for rescue medication (Feldman et al., 2010). Daliresp Daliresp is a long acting beta drug that is used primarily to decrease the inflammation that is caused in the lungs as a result of the COPD expanding or worsening in a patient. It is not used a prevention, but merely as a controlling agent to stop a situation from worsening but cannot be used before the condition exists. Daliresp shouldn't be prescribed to those COPD patients who have liver problems simultaneously or if the patient has an allergic reaction to roflumilast. The recommended dosage for Daliresp is that a single 500 mcg tablet is taken daily. There is no restriction on whether it needs to be taken with food or not. Some of the side effects as recorded in clinical trials for this drug include: psychiatric events, diarrhoea, headaches, influenza, weight loss, appetite loss, and dizziness, amongst others. In case the dose is missed, extra dose should not be taken to make up for it; the missed dose should only be taken if the time for next dose is far i.e. If you've missed the does by a couple of hours. Overdose can lead to heart palpitations and/or cold skin (Forest, 2011). There are certain drugs that Daliresp does not work effectively with, if paired, as seen in the clinical trials. These drugs include: bosentan, dexamethasone, rifabutin, butabarbital, medications given for HIV treatment including efavirenz or etravirine or nevirapine, as well as medication given for seizures like carbamazepine or felbamate or oxcarbazepine (Forest, 2011). Dulera Dulera is a long acting beta that is used for treatment of asthma patients. However, this particular drug can have fatal effects if it is not used under strict medical prescription. This drug is always paired with another drug that controls the asthma extension in the patient in the long run; it is usually paired with an inhaled corticosteroid. Dulera is taken as prescribed by the medical professional. The usual dosage is to intake 2 puffs of Dulera in the morning and 2 puffs in the evening. Dulera must not be paired with a drug that is also a long acting beta 2 agonist. In case a dose is missed, the patient should skip it and just take the next dose when the time for it comes. Some of the side effects of the intake of Dulera could include: development of a yeast infection, adrenal insufficiency, increased shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, rash/swelling/hives, irregular and speedy heartbeat, dizziness, seizures, weakness, increased chest pains, eye problems and decrease bone mineral density amongst others. Dulera must not be prescribed to patients who have issues of tuberculosis, liver disease, bone density issues, diabetes, thyroid disorders, etc. (Cerner, 2010). Tyvaso Tyvaso is a drug that is used primarily for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and is used to primarily improve the ability. It basically works to increase the overall dilation of the blood vessels in and around the lungs in order to prevent unnecessary clotting. This in turn helps reduce the blood pressure that the patient might feel. Tyvaso might lose efficiency over a period of time and the dose must be adjusted or changed under advisement from the doctor in this case. Tyvaso must only be inhaled using the Tyvaso inhalation system and must be inhaled 4 times daily at evenly spaced intervals, taking up to 9 breaths each time. In case of missing a dose or overdosing, the doctor must be contacted for appropriate situational advice. Some of the side effects of the drug include: worsened PAH symptoms, fever, increased and severe chest pains, weakness, paleness of skin, unexpected vaginal bleeding, swelling of feet or ankles, coughing, wheezing, nausea, dizziness and diarrhoea amongst others (Cerner, 2010a). Alvesco Alvesco is a form of man-made corticosteroid that primarily functions as a resistor to the creation of those substances that cause or increase inflammation in the body. It is used as a prevention remedy for asthma attack for children that are 12 years or older. It is merely a prevention drug and must not be used for the treatment of asthma attacks that have already begun. It is important that Alvesco is not treated in patients who have tuberculosis, infections in the mouth or throat, herpes or inheritance of osteoporosis. Alvesco is inhaled once in a day, whether in the morning or evening and a dose missed must be taken immediately unless the time for the next dose is near. Overdose can lead to fatal side effects which include: coughing, headaches, vision or eye problems, increased heartbeat, severe allergies like hives or shortness of breath or swelling in the face, chest pain or tightness and white patches in mouth amongst others (Cerner, 2010b). Brovana Brovana is only used with a nebulizer and is a medication primarily used for improving the overall breathing in a patient. It is used as a prevention remedy of bronchoconstriction in patients that are suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as cases of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Again, it is a prevention drug and cannot stop a bronchospasm that has already in its latter stages. It is important to not treat patients with Brovana if they have the following medical issues: heart disease with an un-rhythmic heart beat and/or high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, thyroid infection or disorder, and an inheritance or family line of Long QT syndrome. Brovana daily intake is prescribed differently according to the patient's need but is always taken with a nebulizer, never swallowed or taken by mouth. In case a dose is missed, it must be skipped and the patient must take the next dose when it is time for it (Cerner, 2010c). Symbicort Symbicort is basically a drug that is a combination of two drugs: Budesonide, a steroid which is used to decrease the inflammation in the body; and Formoterol, a bronchodilator which is used to relax the muscles that help in the breathing. Symbicort is a prevention drug that is used to remedy the instance of bronchospasm in patients who have asthma or COPD. Some of the side effects of the drug include: worsened asthma attacks, chest pain, eye problems, white patches in mouth, headaches, diarrhoea, and muscle/joint pain amongst others (Vogelmeier et al., 2005). Fasting vs. Random Blood Sugar Test: Which One Do You Need?
Glucose is a type of sugar that is required by the body for energy. It comes from the food you consume. A hormone, known as insulin, helps move glucose from the bloodstream into the cells so that they can use it as energy. Having too much or too little glucose in the body is an unhealthy sign.
Glucose testing is a blood test that helps to check the levels of glucose or sugar in the body. It is done by pricking the finger and drawing a small amount of blood. The blood is then wiped on a test strip that gives a glucose reading. If you have diabetes or are prediabetic, the doctor may suggest certain blood tests to check the level of glucose in your blood and understand how your body processes the blood sugar.
These tests may vary. In some cases, you may be required to fast or not eat or drink anything except water for a specific amount of time. In other cases, there is no restriction on eating or drinking. Here’s the overview of fasting and random blood sugar tests.
Fasting Blood Glucose Test
A fasting blood glucose test is used by the doctor to diagnose diabetes. Before the test, you will be asked to fast for 8 hours. It includes not eating or drinking anything except water. The test is carried out in the morning so you don’t have to go too long without eating and lowering your energy.
The blood sugar levels are measured several hours after eating, which gives a more accurate view of the percentage of glucose in your body. In most cases, fasting blood sugar levels should be below 5.7%.
High fasting blood sugar levels may mean insulin resistance or diabetes. On the contrary, abnormally low fasting blood sugar levels may be due to diabetes medication. Your doctor will tell you how frequently you need to undergo the test to ensure good health. Fasting blood sugar is characterized by three factors:
The contents of your last meal.
The size of your previous meal.
Your body’s ability to produce and respond to insulin.
The doctor will advise you to follow a healthy diet to keep fasting blood sugar from spiking. It may include eating plenty of fiber-rich foods and choosing high-protein foods to increase a feeling of fullness. You will also be asked to limit sugar and salt and choose non-starchy vegetables over starchy counterparts. Remember, these changes should be incorporated throughout your routine, not just before blood sugar testing.
Random Glucose Test
A random glucose test is performed to measure the amount of glucose or sugar circulating in your blood at the time of the day. Typical ranges for a glucose tolerance test are 140 milligrams per decilitre or lower.
This test is used to determine if you are likely to have diabetes. It differs from fasting blood glucose tests and other tests as other tests are used to confirm a complete diagnosis of diabetes which helps to decide if additional tests are necessary.
You don’t have to fast beforehand to get this test done. A random test can be performed outside of your normal test schedule. Doctors call it an important test to manage diabetes. If the random glucose levels are acceptable, your treatment to manage diabetes is working. On the contrary, if the levels have wide swings, you may need to change your diabetes management practices.
Fasting Blood Sugar Test vs. Random Glucose Test: Which One Do I Need?
It would be best to leave it to your doctor to decide which test is better for you. If you have diabetes, paying attention to your symptoms is important. If you experience all the symptoms of low blood sugar, test immediately. In these cases, a random blood sugar test will help you identify hyperglycemia and decrease the risk of complications.
You can also use a random blood sugar test to test your blood sugar levels at various times throughout the day, as it doesn’t require fasting. It will help you manage diabetes and reduce the risk of complications.
How to Prepare for Blood Glucose Tests?
If you have been suggested a fasting blood glucose test, you must fast for at least 8 hours before the test. Random blood glucose tests don’t require any preparation. There is no risk involved in these tests. You may feel a little light-headed. But it will go off in some time.
Takeaway
Diabetes is a serious condition, and you must not turn a blind eye to it. There is no cure for it. However, you can manage it through proper care. The key to diabetes management is eating healthy, exercising regularly, taking medication, and opting for regular blood sugar tests to determine whether these strategies are working in your favor or not. If your glucose levels aren’t under control, speak with your doctor. They will make changes in your management program.

How Stress Affects Your Hormones: A Deep Dive
Stress is a natural part of life, but when it becomes chronic, it can wreak havoc on your body, especially your hormonal health. One of the most significant hormones affected by stress is cortisol, often referred to as the "stress hormone." While cortisol plays a crucial role in helping us respond to stress, when levels remain elevated for long periods, it can lead to a variety of health issues. In this post, we’ll explore how chronic stress impacts your hormones and offer practical tips for managing stress to improve your overall health.
The Role of Cortisol in Your Body
Cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands and helps regulate essential functions like metabolism, blood sugar levels, and immune response. In the short term, cortisol helps your body respond to immediate threats (the "fight or flight" response), but chronic stress causes your body to produce excess cortisol over prolonged periods. This constant cortisol release can interfere with other hormones and disrupt the balance of your endocrine system.
How Chronic Stress Disrupts Hormonal Balance
Insulin Resistance and Weight Gain Elevated cortisol levels can lead to insulin resistance, which means your cells become less responsive to insulin. This can cause blood sugar levels to spike, contributing to weight gain, particularly around the abdomen. For individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing it, managing stress becomes even more critical to keeping blood sugar levels in check.
Thyroid Dysfunction Chronic stress can also negatively impact thyroid function. Stress-induced cortisol can reduce the conversion of thyroid hormone (T4) into the active form (T3). This can lead to symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue, weight gain, and depression. If you already have a thyroid condition, managing stress is vital to prevent further hormonal imbalances.
Hormonal Imbalances in Women For women, chronic stress can disrupt the delicate balance between estrogen, progesterone, and other reproductive hormones. This can lead to irregular periods, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), and even infertility. Stress can also trigger symptoms of menopause earlier than expected, leading to a premature drop in estrogen levels, resulting in hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings.
Decreased Testosterone In both men and women, chronic stress can lower testosterone levels. This can lead to a reduction in muscle mass, decreased energy levels, and even a lower sex drive. For individuals already struggling with hormonal issues, such as PCOS or thyroid imbalances, this can exacerbate the situation.
The Emotional Impact of Stress on Hormones
Stress doesn’t just affect your physical hormones; it also takes a toll on your emotional well-being. Cortisol and other stress hormones are linked to the limbic system, the part of your brain responsible for emotions. Elevated cortisol levels can contribute to mood swings, anxiety, and even depression. For women dealing with PCOS or thyroid disorders, stress can amplify emotional and physical symptoms, leading to a cycle that's hard to break without proper management techniques.
How to Manage Stress for Better Hormonal Health
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, there are several natural ways to restore balance to your hormones. Managing stress is key to improving your overall endocrine health and reducing the negative impact it has on your body.
Mindfulness and Meditation Incorporating mindfulness practices like meditation and deep breathing can significantly reduce cortisol levels. Taking a few minutes each day to sit quietly and focus on your breath or engage in guided meditation can help activate your body's relaxation response and counteract the effects of chronic stress.
Exercise Regularly Physical activity is one of the best ways to reduce stress and improve hormonal health. Exercise helps regulate cortisol levels, boost endorphins (the "feel-good" hormones), and improve insulin sensitivity. Whether it’s yoga, jogging, or even dancing, find an activity that you enjoy and stick to it.
Get Enough Sleep Sleep and stress are closely linked. Lack of sleep can increase cortisol levels, while chronic stress can make it difficult to fall or stay asleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night, and make your bedroom a calm, peaceful environment to promote better sleep quality.
Social Support Having a strong support system is crucial for managing stress. Talking to friends, family members, or a therapist can help alleviate emotional strain and provide valuable coping mechanisms. Sometimes, just knowing that you’re not alone can make all the difference in reducing stress.
Maintain a Healthy Diet Eating a balanced diet rich in whole foods can support your body's ability to manage stress. Focus on nutrient-dense foods that promote hormone balance, such as leafy greens, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid processed foods and sugar, which can increase cortisol levels.
Set Boundaries and Prioritize Self-Care It’s essential to recognize when you're stretched too thin and set boundaries to protect your mental health. Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation, whether it’s a hobby, a walk in nature, or simply reading a book. Taking time for yourself is not selfish; it’s a necessary part of stress management.
Consult a Professional If stress is impacting your health and you're unable to manage it on your own, consider consulting a healthcare provider, such as a diabetes doctor in Delhi or thyroid specialist in Delhi. A best endocrinologist in Delhi can help you address the root causes of your stress-related symptoms and provide guidance on managing both stress and hormonal health.
When to Seek Professional Help
If you’re experiencing persistent symptoms of hormonal imbalances, such as fatigue, weight changes, or mood swings, it’s essential to seek help from a best thyroid doctor in Delhi or a diabetologist in Delhi. These professionals can help you manage the underlying hormonal issues contributing to your stress and provide you with personalized strategies to improve your health.
Conclusion
Chronic stress can significantly impact your hormonal health, especially by elevating cortisol levels, which in turn affects other hormones like insulin, thyroid hormones, and reproductive hormones. However, by practicing mindfulness, engaging in regular exercise, prioritizing sleep, and adopting a balanced diet, you can effectively manage stress and support your endocrine system. If stress-related symptoms persist, consulting with an endocrinologist in Delhi or a diabetes specialist in Delhi is a crucial step toward restoring your hormonal health and overall well-being.

"Metabolic Surgery: A New Hope for Type 2 Diabetes Management"
Type 2 diabetes has become a global epidemic, affecting millions of people and placing a heavy burden on individuals, families, and healthcare systems. While traditional treatments like medication, insulin therapy, and lifestyle changes help manage the disease, they often fall short in offering a permanent solution. Enter metabolic surgery — a revolutionary approach that not only helps with weight loss but also addresses the root causes of type 2 diabetes.
What Is Metabolic Surgery?
Metabolic surgery, often referred to as bariatric surgery, includes procedures like gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and biliopancreatic diversion. These surgeries alter the digestive system to promote weight loss and improve metabolic health. Unlike standard weight-loss methods, metabolic surgery targets hormonal and metabolic imbalances, making it a game-changer for type 2 diabetes management.
How Does Metabolic Surgery Help in Type 2 Diabetes?
Improved Insulin Sensitivity: By reducing fat and modifying gut hormones, metabolic surgery enhances the body’s ability to use insulin effectively.
Reduction in Blood Sugar Levels: Many patients experience a drastic reduction in their blood glucose levels, sometimes within days of surgery.
Decreased Dependency on Medication: Post-surgery, a significant number of patients reduce or even eliminate their need for diabetes medications or insulin therapy.
Long-Term Control: Beyond immediate benefits, metabolic surgery offers sustained improvement in diabetes management and overall metabolic health.
Key Benefits of Metabolic Surgery for Diabetic Patients
Higher Remission Rates: Studies show that metabolic surgery achieves remission of type 2 diabetes in up to 80% of patients.
Prevention of Complications: It reduces the risk of diabetes-related complications such as heart disease, kidney damage, and nerve issues.
Improved Quality of Life: Patients report better energy levels, reduced stress, and improved mental health.
Sustainability: Unlike traditional treatments, which require lifelong adherence, metabolic surgery offers long-term benefits with proper aftercare.
Who Can Benefit from Metabolic Surgery?
Metabolic surgery is recommended for individuals with:
A BMI of 35 or higher with type 2 diabetes.
Poorly controlled diabetes despite medication and lifestyle changes.
A desire for a long-term, sustainable solution to both obesity and diabetes.
At the Laparo-Obeso Centre (LOC), Dr. Shashank Shah is at the forefront of metabolic surgery in India. With decades of experience and a patient-first approach, Dr. Shah has helped thousands of individuals achieve freedom from type 2 diabetes and obesity. His expertise in advanced laparoscopic techniques ensures safe and effective outcomes.
If you’re struggling with type 2 diabetes and looking for a permanent solution, consult Dr. Shashank Shah at LOC. He can guide you through your journey to better health, offering hope where other treatments have failed.

In recent years, obesity has become a growing concern worldwide, affecting millions of individuals and leading to various health complications. As a result, pharmaceutical companies have been striving to develop effective medications to combat obesity and promote weight loss. Trulicity (dulaglutide) is one such medication that has garnered attention due to its potential role in weight management. In this article, we delve into the scientific evidence surrounding Trulicity’s efficacy for weight loss, examining its mechanisms of action and the results of relevant clinical trials.
Does Trulicity work for weight loss?
Trulicity is not approved for weight loss, although many who use it often lose weight. Trulicity belongs to the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist class of medicines. Semaglutide, also known as Ozempic and Wegovy, is included in this class of medications. GLP-1 drugs function by mimicking GLP-1, a hormone produced by your body. GLP-1 is a type of incretin hormone. Incretins are released after eating to increase insulin synthesis, which lowers blood sugar levels.
This incretin effect does not act as well as it should in persons with type 2 diabetes, or it may be absent entirely, resulting in blood sugar rises. People with type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, can better manage their blood sugar levels with the use of GLP-1 medications such as Trulicity.
GLP-1 agonists target several components of the incretin system, which can all help persons with type 2 diabetes. These medications, for example, stimulate insulin synthesis while decreasing glucagon production, assisting in controlling blood sugar levels. GLP-1 medicines also slow digestion and the rate at which food moves from the stomach to the intestine, making users feel fuller sooner and for longer, which can lead to weight loss.
While higher dosages of Trulicity result in more weight reduction, weight loss can also occur at lesser levels. In a clinical trial, those receiving 1.5 mg of dulaglutide lost around 5 pounds within six months of starting treatment. They also dropped more weight than people who only took metformin (another diabetes drug). A study published in 2021 investigated the impact of switching from insulin to dulaglutide as a first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes. Over six months, the participants’ HbA1c levels and body weight improved significantly, especially if they had a higher HbA1c baseline.
How long does it take for Trulicity to work for weight loss?
As each individual is unique, it is impossible to predict how long it will take for Trulicity to initiate weight loss. However, most patients will require at least two weeks of treatment before they begin to see results. Generally, changes in appetite are evident within the first week.
When you join Calibrate, we will schedule your initial appointment as soon as possible so that you can begin taking your GLP-1 medication as quickly as possible. Before that appointment, you will complete a comprehensive health assessment, including blood work, which your Calibrate physician will carefully evaluate before customizing your treatment and prescribing your medication.
If Trulicity is your best option, we will clarify the dosage, how to administer the medication, when to take it, and how it will interact with the rest of the program.
What’s the dosing schedule for weight loss with Trulicity?
Trulicity’s recommended starting dose is 0.75 mg once weekly. The dose can be increased to 1.5 mg after four weeks. If tolerated, doses can be increased by 1.5 mg every four weeks until the maximum dose of 4.5 mg weekly is reached.
What are the side effects of taking Trulicity for weight loss?
Before using Trulicity weight loss, your doctor and pharmacist will review all the details. Also, notify your doctor immediately if you have any severe or unpleasant reactions. The following are the most prevalent Trulicity side effects:
diarrhea
nausea
vomiting
decreased appetite
abdominal pain
Stomach emptying (also known as gastric emptying) was previously mentioned; here is an explanation. Because Trulicity delays the digestion of food in the stomach, it may also slow the digestion of certain medications. The slowing may reduce absorption, resulting in insufficient medicine entering the system. The manufacturer recommends keeping your doctor informed about your oral medications and monitoring them to ensure that they are metabolized and remain effective in your body.
In addition, dulaglutide may cause uncommon but significant adverse effects. Remember that although we mention these negative effects, the likelihood of them occurring is highly remote. Here’s the rundown:
pancreatitis
hypoglycemia
acute kidney injury
hypersensitivity reactions
acute gallbladder disease
risk of thyroid C-cell tumors
severe gastrointestinal disease
diabetic retinopathy complications
You may also question if there are any foods you should avoid while taking Trulicity to reduce side effects. Fortunately, the answer is no, but you may want to limit your consumption of certain foods to prevent Trulicity from working correctly.
Conclusion:
Trulicity has demonstrated potential as a weight loss aid, but its use must accompany a comprehensive plan that includes healthy dietary choices and regular physical activity. Trulicity patients lost significant amounts of weight in clinical trials, but individual results may vary. Always seek professional medical advice before beginning any weight loss regimen or medication to ensure it is appropriate for your health requirements and objectives. With proper guidance and a holistic approach, Trulicity may be a helpful aid in the fight against obesity and improve overall health and wellbeing.

How Metabolic Surgery Can Improve Overall Health Beyond Weight Loss
Metabolic surgery is often associated with weight loss, but its benefits extend far beyond shedding extra kilos. In fact, it plays a transformative role in improving overall health by addressing metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

🩺 What Is Metabolic Surgery?
Metabolic surgery is a type of bariatric surgery designed to treat metabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes, obesity, and related disorders. The most common procedures include:
✔ Gastric Bypass Surgery — Alters the digestive system to control food intake and absorption. ✔ Sleeve Gastrectomy — Reduces stomach size to promote hormonal and metabolic changes. ✔ Duodenal Switch — Combines restrictive and malabsorptive techniques for long-term weight and metabolic improvements.
💡 Unlike traditional weight-loss surgery, metabolic surgery focuses on treating metabolic diseases, leading to a significant improvement in overall health.
🛡️ Key Health Benefits of Metabolic Surgery
1️⃣ Reverses Type 2 Diabetes
🔹 Metabolic surgery restores insulin sensitivity and reduces blood sugar levels. 🔹 Studies show 80% of patients experience diabetes remission after surgery. 🔹 Less dependency on insulin and medication post-surgery.
💡 Did You Know? The American Diabetes Association (ADA) now recommends metabolic surgery as a standard treatment for obese diabetic patients.
2️⃣ Lowers Blood Pressure & Heart Disease Risk
🔹 Obesity and metabolic disorders contribute to high blood pressure. 🔹 After surgery, patients often experience normalized blood pressure without medication. 🔹 It reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular diseases.
💡 Fact: Studies indicate a 50% reduction in heart disease risk after metabolic surgery.
3️⃣ Improves Liver Health & Prevents Fatty Liver Disease
🔹 Obesity leads to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), increasing the risk of liver failure. 🔹 Surgery significantly reduces liver fat deposits, preventing cirrhosis and liver damage. 🔹 Patients see improved liver enzyme levels within months of the procedure.
💡 Insight: Metabolic surgery is one of the most effective treatments for NAFLD, even reversing early-stage liver disease.
4️⃣ Enhances Fertility & Hormonal Balance
🔹 Obesity and metabolic disorders often cause infertility in both men and women. 🔹 Surgery helps regulate hormonal imbalances such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). 🔹 Increased chances of natural conception and healthier pregnancy outcomes.
💡 Fact: Women with PCOS often experience regular menstrual cycles and improved fertility after metabolic surgery.
5️⃣ Reduces the Risk of Cancer
🔹 Obesity is linked to several cancers, including breast, colon, and pancreatic cancer. 🔹 Metabolic surgery reduces chronic inflammation and insulin resistance, which are cancer risk factors. 🔹 Studies show a 33%-50% decrease in cancer risk post-surgery.
💡 Research: Patients undergoing metabolic surgery have lower cancer rates compared to obese individuals who don’t opt for surgery.
6️⃣ Relieves Sleep Apnea & Boosts Respiratory Health
🔹 Obesity is a major cause of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). 🔹 Post-surgery, airway obstruction reduces, leading to improved sleep quality. 🔹 Less dependency on CPAP machines and better overall respiratory function.
💡 Tip: Patients report feeling more energetic and refreshed due to improved sleep patterns after surgery.
7️⃣ Reduces Joint Pain & Increases Mobility
🔹 Excess weight puts tremendous pressure on joints, causing arthritis and chronic pain. 🔹 After surgery, reduced inflammation and weight loss relieve joint stress. 🔹 Patients experience better mobility, reduced pain, and improved quality of life.
💡 Fact: Losing even 5–10% of body weight can significantly relieve joint pain and osteoarthritis symptoms.
