Rising urbanization and the unhealthy diets, and sedentary lifestyles that go with it have enabled this unrecognized, rising pandemic of non-communicable chronic diseases. When the insulin produced in the body is unable to function as required, glucose builds up in the blood and, left untreated, leads to a host of problems like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, PCOD/S, and more.

Unlearning diet culture really makes everyone around you seem fucking insane because of how hard they keep clinging to random bullshit maling them miserable because it's "healthy".
The literal current CEO of Disney stopped eating bread and only eats pasta on holidays. People will do keto, a diet originally designed to control severe epilepsy symptoms in children, one that could raise your cholesterol by 30% and give you KIDNEY STONES, for weight loss and genuinely think that's good for them.
I know that the internet has made regular stupidity contagious and dumb shit spreads like wildfire, but it seems like another fad diet pops up on tiktok every day, each one dumber than the last. Don't do this to yourself, PLEASE

Bog Queen
I lay waiting between turf-face and demesne wall, between heathery levels and glass-toothed stone. My body was braille for the creeping influences: dawn suns groped over my head and cooled at my feet, through my fabrics and skins the seeps of winter digested me, the illiterate roots pondered and died in the cavings of stomach and socket. I lay waiting on the gravel bottom, my brain darkening, a jar of spawn fermenting underground dreams of Baltic amber. Bruised berries under my nails, the vital hoard reducing in the crock of the pelvis. My diadem grew carious, gemstones dropped in the peat floe like the bearings of history. My sash was a black glacier wrinkling, dyed weaves and phoenician stitchwork retted on my breasts' soft moraines. I knew winter cold like the nuzzle of fjords at my thighs– the soaked fledge, the heavy swaddle of hides. My skull hibernated in the west nest of my hair.
Which they robbed. I was barbered and stripped by a turfcutter’s spade
who veiled me again and packed coomb softly between the stone jambs at my head and my feet.
Till a peer’s wife bribed hil. The plait of my hair, a slimy birth-cord of bog, had been cut
and I rose from the dark, hacked bone, skull-ware, frayed stitches, tufts, small gleams on the bank.
Seamus Heaney, North, 1975
Saoirse reckoned that at this stage, there was more caffeine in her organism than blood, or water, or any other normal component of her body. She was made of cheap coffee, her brain buzzing with chemicals and lack of sleep. At this point, her entire body was trembling…
By her side, Sean wasn’t much better. He had been procrastinating, and now he was paying the price with too much to be done in too little time.
Damn, exam season was something else… A new kind of hell, no doubt…
The library was about to close, that was how late it was. They gathered their stuff five minutes before closing time, and headed for the night. The cold burned Saoirse’s cheeks, although for once it wasn’t raining. It was snowing, instead… how great… she could get frozen and wet…
“Christ’s sake, don’t tell me it’s fucking raining again,” Sean complained behind her.
“It’s snowing.”
“No better. God, my feet are gonna be soaked.”
She looked down at his old boots, the leather visibly tired.
He heaved a sigh.
“Want to eat something before we go to our dorms?”
“A burger. Something that will give me diabetes and cholesterol just by looking at it.”
“Fuck yeah… extra fries too.”
“Of course!”
She almost slipped as they climbed down the few steps leading to the library, and Sean held her hand to steady her. They were both wearing gloves, and yet she felt warmth spread through her fingers as he held her. At the bottom of the steps, they didn’t let go, merely walked across the campus in silence, their feet making the thin layer of white snow crack under each of their steps. It was late, barely anyone was around anymore. Streetlights were tainting the snow a yellowish white, and the world was quieter than usual. It was a special power of the snow to make the world slow down, to make everything quiet. Saoirse was thinking about her exams though, about the book she had to finish for your class, about the notes she had to read again about Yeat’s poetry, and there was this essay she had to finish…
Both of them looked up when a voice rose over the stillness of the night.
“ANDY! LOOK! IT’S FUCKING SNOWING!”
Saoirse recognised you instantly, you were hurrying out of a building, arms spread open and face up to meet the falling snowflakes. You were laughing.
And then another silhouette came out of the same building as you, so tall it was easy to recognise Pr. H-B. He was laughing too, watching you enjoy the snow, his deep voice rumbling through the night.
“I see that,” he nodded, readjusting his man bun under his beanie.
“I hope it won’t melt too fast,” you pouted, looking at the white that covered the grounds, the leaves of the bushes, the empty branches of the trees, the wooden benches. “I want to make a snowman. And a proper one!”
“I want to send a snowball right into your face.”
You exploded with laughter, and he broke into a teasing grin.
“And I thought you were a peaceful lad!” you teased, reaching up to pinch his side, which made him giggle more like a boy than a grown man.
“Never said that I was!”
“You softy…”
You shook your head at him, let the snow fall on your cheeks and your closed eyelids again. Nor you nor Andrew seemed to have noticed Saoirse and Sean though, as they slowly kept on walking across the grounds, looking at their professors’ silly behaviour from afar.
“Christ, I’m freezing… let’s go! I’m starving.”
“So, you’re really going to cook for me tonight?”
“Yeah, I can make you something decent,” Andrew nodded, already turning in the direction of the carpark.
He groaned.
“God, I have to take Elwood for a walk. Fuck…”
“We can go together! It’ll be fun!”
“It’ll be fun to freeze our arses outside? Don’t worry, I’ll do it. You’ll catch your death.”
Saoirse saw you bending over a bench to gather snow in your hand. Not much, but a handful. You crept behind Andrew, went on your tiptoes before pulling on his scarf and pressing the snow against the back of his neck. He yelped, jumping in surprise and cursing like a sailor while he wiggled to get as much snow out of his scarf as he could, while you laughed so hard you were bending over and losing your balance.
“Fuck you!” he groaned, and yet there was a breathy laughter in his voice. “I’ll pay you back for that…”
He hurried towards the nearest bench, gathered some snow as well, but you were running off already, laughing. He ran after you, laughing as well, and managed to throw his snow ball to hit the back of your head. You yelped and doubled with laughter at the contact, but then you slipped, were falling on the icy ground.
Saoirse and Sean both gasped as they saw you falling, but heaved a relieved sigh when Andrew bent down and managed to catch you before you would hit the ground.
“Christ! You’re okay?” he asked with genuine worry, and you looked up at him as he pulled you upright again.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks,” you mumbled as you found back your footing. “That was a nice shot, by the way.”
“One of my many talents, I’m a killer in snowball fights.”
“Your tall arse also must make for a very good target.”
“Depends, I can easily disappear. I just pretend to be a scarecrow, nobody notices me.”
You laughed at that, and so he smiled.
“Let’s go home,” he spoke in a softer tone.
Saoirse noticed that he was still holding onto your arms, she noticed the longing that appeared across his features for a moment when you pulled away, the way he stared at you as you started walking again, babbling about dinner and hoping he wouldn’t poison you. And then he blinked, seemed to find back the use of his muscles, and followed you.
Saoirse stared at the pair of you walking away, a smile forming on her lips.
“What are you thinking about?” Sean asked, noticing mischief in her eyes.
“He likes her.”
“What?”
“H-B. He has a crush on Y/L/N.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Haven’t you seen what just happened? The longing?!”
But Sean blinked, and she heaved a sigh as she pulled him further across the grounds, aiming for the large portal and the busy street of Dublin.
“Men…” she mumbled, shaking her head.
“ELWOOD!”
You had barely passed the door that you knelt to greet Andrew’s dog, generously petting him and complimenting him for no other reason than the fact that he was an incredibly good boy.
You didn’t see the grin on Andrew’s features as he looked at you, the warmth that made his cheeks turn a brighter shade of pink.
“Yes! I’m so happy to see you too! It’s been weeks! I’ve missed you!” you cooed, scratching him behind his ears, and Elwood happily wiggled his tail.
He excitedly licked your hands and cheeks, making you laugh.
“Alright, alright, that’s enough,” Andrew chuckled, bending to scratch his dog’s head as well, diverting his attention so you could stand again.
You made a mental note to buy Elwood a toy, next time you would come over. He was too adorable, deserved all the treats and gifts…
“Alright, I’ll go cook us something.”
“What have you planned?”
“Erm… I can do a decent pasta dish if you want. Like… with a sauce and everything.”
“Hmm… sounds nice!”
You followed him inside, but he stopped as you were ready to enter his kitchen, and turned to you with a serious look on his face.
“I have a rule though. You stay away from the kitchen.”
“What?”
“I don’t like it when people cook with me.”
“Oh… so you are a control freak,” you teased, but he seemed more offended than you had anticipated.
“Of course, not… just… don’t cook with me.”
“So, you’re a control freak, but specifically in the kitchen, then…”
He rolled his eyes, but yielded.
“Alright, maybe I’m a little controlling in the kitchen. I just… like things to be done a certain way. Or maybe I simply have terrible friends when it comes to cooking. You should see the look of those poor vegetables after Alex had ‘cut them’. An outrage, really.”
“I have a special skill though. It’s my superpower.”
He raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“I can cut fruits and vegetables in perfectly even pieces.”
“What?”
“Like… if I cut an apple in half, it’s almost perfect!”
“So… your superpower is decently chopping fruits and veggies?”
“It is,” you nodded with fake pride, making him laugh.
“I mean… at least, it’s a useful skill!”
“What’s your hidden skill?”
He looked at you for a moment. You could see that he was hesitating, you gave him an encouraging nod. He blushed as he spoke again, his voice growing quiet.
“I can sing.”
You rolled your eyes.
“I already know that! I know you used to write music, I know you still like it. You’ve told me you used to sing in a choir too.”
“I sang at Trinity. Anúna.”
“Really? That’s high-level stuff!”
“I still play gigs sometimes.”
Your eyes widened. You couldn’t control your brain as you imagined Andrew standing on stage, singing, looking hot…
You pushed the thought away. Reminded yourself that you were colleagues, friends, and nothing more and this was out of line…
“That’s awesome!”
“Hmm… yeah… I’m playing a gig on Saint Patrick’s day, in fact,” he added, growing increasingly nervous as he went on, he actually turned away from you and started picking up plates and knifes and vegetables throughout his kitchen. “With Alex and the old gang. Erm… and it’s also my birthday, so we’re having a little party about that, nothing fancy, just… a barbecue if the weather allows. You… you could come, if you want to.”
Your heart felt warm at his words, at the thought that he wanted to share this passion of his with you, that he wanted to spend his birthday with you too. You tried to hide how excited you truly were, refusing to look too much like some kind of creep…
“I’d love to come!”
He froze, threw you a side glance, but there was a hopeful smile tugging at his lips.
“Really?” he asked, voice almost a whisper.
“Of course! Sounds like a way to get free beer and get hammered at your expense. Sign me up!”
He laughed at that, but the grateful look he gave you let you know that he wasn’t fooled by your joke.
“Also… are we going to mention that you were born on Saint Patrick’s Day? Like… that is disgustingly patriotic of you,” you teased, leaning your back against the sink so you could stand next to Andrew and look at him.
“Hey, it’s not that bad! Always a day off work, everybody is available, and if they’re not, then they’re just lying gobshites,” he beamed up as you laughed. “Also, my dad pretended the parades were for my birthday as a child.”
“Ha… that explains the size of your current ego…”
He laughed at that, washing tomatoes and stepping closer to you to do so. You didn’t budge though. You tried to ignore that you kind of longed for that sudden proximity…
“Right… I bet I’m insufferable.”
“I mean… you are… just not because of an ego problem,” you smiled at him.
“Because of what kind of problem then?”
You noticed a shift in his tone, and you hated it. You knew he was kind of serious now, that he was growing anxious. You saw it in the way his shoulders bent, how he tried to look smaller than he truly was. You gave him a mischievous grin, made sure he knew you were still joking around.
“You won’t let me show you my unbelievable skill!” you answered, dissolving any trace of stress that was left in the room.
He laughed, standing straighter again, before handing you a knife.
“Alright, show me.”
You made a show at placing the knife on the nearest tomato, and Andrew stared at you with glee, highly entertained by your antics.
“AND…”
You cut the tomato in two fairly even pieces, and Andrew dramatically inspected the fruit. You tried hard not to laugh, but quickly failed.
“Not too bad,” he admitted, poking his tongue against the inside of his cheek.
You threw your fist in the air in victory.
“So… does that mean that I can cook…?”
“Nope!”
You laughed at him, finished cutting the tomato you were still holding. Andrew eyed you for a moment, before sliding some vegetables your way.
You gave him a cheeky grin in return, one that coloured his cheeks with red.
Andrew shooed you out of the kitchen after all the ingredients had been cut though, claiming that you didn’t have a special skill in cooking, but only in cutting, and you yielded after some further teasing; you set up the table, then aimed for his living room while he busied himself with his food, claiming it was almost done. You played with Elwood for a bit, then busied yourself with a meticulous inspection of Andrew’s bookshelves.
A tender smile formed on your lips at his extensive collection of Heaney’s poetry. You picked up North, the collection you had been reading lately. You were not surprised to find traces of many reads on its cover and alongside the pages, with sticky notes here and there. You were not surprised to find the extensive notes slipped between the pages enclosing ‘Come to the Bower’ all through to ‘Strange Fruit’.
“It’s ready!” Andrew called after you, stepping into his living room to bring you back to reality while your eyes travelled through the first verses of the ‘Bog Queen’.
You looked up at him while he approached, tilting his head to the side. There was no animosity in his voice when he spoke, it was soft and warm, on the contrary.
“It’s impolite to snoop around.”
“I’m only assessing your taste.”
“And? Your conclusion?”
You smiled up at him.
“Not too bad.”
He chuckled, but there was something tender in his gaze. Something that made your heart skip a beat.
He bent a little to see what book you were still holding, he hummed as he nodded.
“I do love Heaney a lot,” he admitted.
“I know. I’ve started reading his poetry again, you know?”
“Really? What made you pick it up again?”
“You.”
His relaxed smile faltered, and for a moment, you cursed yourself, thinking you had been too direct, that you had spoiled everything. But then you noticed that he was blinking, saw his eyes shining a little while he averted his gaze.
When he spoke, his voice was so soft you could barely hear it, deeper than usual too, it made your heart beat faster, shook your frame with a shiver.
“That’s… that’s really fucking nice, Y/N. That… that you did that.”
“I saw the books sitting on my shelf the other day, and I know how much you love these poems. It made me think of you. So… I’ve started reading them again.”
Slowly, Andrew nodded, before he would clear his throat.
“Thank you,” he repeated, although you weren’t too sure of what he was thanking you for. It seemed natural to you.
“I see you have a lot to say about bog bodies, and I am not surprised,” you added, showing the pieces of paper tugged safely between the pages.
Andrew chuckled, rubbing at his neck as he grew a little uncomfortable.
“Right… yeah… I do love those an awful lot.”
“Hmmm… I had guessed. Actually… we should discuss them! That would be fun!”
It was your time to avert your eyes now, though, to grow uncomfortable. Fun? To you, perhaps, but Frank had showed you time and time again that nobody else was interested in talking about these things…
“God! Yes! What do you want to talk about? Like… the macabre aspect of it? The political side? The mythical side?”
When you looked up at Andrew, he was grinning, excited like a little child in a candy store. His hand was slightly shaking when he pushed his glasses up his nose again.
“Oh, and… you know, I’ve bought the Divine Comedy too!”
“What?” you asked, taken aback by the sudden change of subject.
“Yeah, I just… I… saw it at the bookstore the other day, and you love it, so I wanted to give it another try, and we have so many points to discuss! I’m almost done, not quite though, but there are so many elements that I want to go through with you… Like…”
He stopped his rambling as you blinked up at him. You must have looked stupid, while you tried to register what Andrew meant.
He had bought that book to read it… because you loved it. Just so he could… talk about it with you… without you recommending it to him or lending him the book, he just… He saw it. Thought of you. Bought it simply because of you. Read it because of you. And now he wanted to discuss it with you…
You blinked tears away. It was ridiculously simple and yet… no one had ever done that. Frank had definitely never done that for you…
“I… I’d love to talk about that with you,” you spoke in a softer voice, a grin slowly forming across your lips.
You were staring at each other for a moment, your hands still holding one of his favourite books, his eyes fixed on yours. God, his eyes… the green that dominated the brown tonight, like leaves on a summer afternoon, vivid and bathed with gold… you couldn’t look at anything else in the room, in the world, in your life…
You noticed that the space between your faces was slowly diminishing. You noticed that Andrew wasn’t that tall anymore, or rather, that he was bending closer. Closer. Closer…
You felt something bump hard into your leg, making you lose your balance for a second, although you recovered almost instantly. When you looked down, Elwood was staring up at you, waiting for your attention.
You laughed, scratching his head.
“The food is going to get cold,” Andrew mumbled under his breath, and you tried to ignore how much he was blushing now. You carried the book in the kitchen as you followed him, Elwood in toe.
God, had you dreamt this? Had Andrew tried to kiss you? Were you… were you ready to let him?

Zayne's newest card made me tear up a little.
He truly heals that part of me that it's very much broken and still under maintenance ❤️🩹
CW: Adult talk about mental health issues and how Zayne's been a good unintentional therapy.
I sometimes joke about how "To sit on his lap would totally fix me" as a reference to his Hidden Motive card and basically that he loves MC to sit on his lap but you know, I think to be hug by him is what actually would hold together all the pieces of me that are about to fall. He hugs MC with such delicate touch, so much tenderness and you can see the love pouring from his touch, his gaze, his words.
I once mentioned in another post that I totally understand Zayne's trauma with nightmares because there was a time I had them constantly too. There's actually another part of that story: back in the day I was so stressed that my blood pressure was always high. The very reason I had to be taken to the psychiatric hospital was because there wasn't another medical reason for my high levels of blood pressure than stress. I got my blood pressure checked for 10 days (or was it 15? I can't remember) in order to discard hypertension, I also got some medical tests done to discard if the problem was in my thyroid, blood tests to check my levels of cholesterol and tryglicerides, I even got an echocardiogram but according to every test, my body was... fine. There was no apparent reason as to why I was shaking like a wet dog against the cool wind in the backyard.
I knew I was anxious, stressed and basically on high alert all the time but somehow I came to normalize the dizzines, the shakiness of my body, the arrhythmias and feeling extra weak all the time. I'm not going to talk about the reasons that led me up to feel that way bc they're too personal and sensitive, the point is: I was so stressed that my body started to somatize my mental state.
It was there when I had to be given antidepressants and got diagnosed with depression, panic disorder and other stuff that I prefer to omit atm. I started to sleep more because of the medicine but it wasn't a good sleep bc it was there when the nightmares would always make me feel distressed and exhausted everytime I woke up. I also used to had arrhythmias when I went to sleep.
This is another thing I love about Zayne's nagging about sleeping early that I forgot to mention in my previous post: Sleeping properly not only helps your body to regain energy and start the process of reparation and regeneration of cells, but not sleeping properly can lead not only to mental health issues but also, heart issues. Zayne, being the cardiac surgeon he is, knows what's truly best for you.
If I'm honest, even after therapy, I haven't been able to heal all what's causing me to be stressed. My panic attacks have decreased greatly but not entirely and you know what's funny about Zayne and panic attacks? Out of the four LIs he's literally the best option to help out with them: not only is he a Doctor and knows how to act in emergencies while keeping a calm and collected attitude but his evol is the best ally in these cases. Back then, whenever my panic attacks would hit me, that shit about breathing never the fuck worked with me (and I'm telling you this with all the frustration I feel just to remember) because to be aware of my breath only made me feel like it was easier to lose control over it. So I had to be given a couple of ice cubes in a bag pressed over my neck and face in order to wake up my brain from the emotional distress it was putting me into. The sudden cold sensation not only helped me to wake up but was also comforting from all the sweat you get to produce in these attcks.
So yeah, I can picture Zayne seeing that when nothing is working, he could cool off his hands to the right temperature to help you wake up from the emotional distress. His touch not only gentle but comforting, making you remember that his hands are the safest place in the world and there's no danger.
Even to these days, whenever someone touches me all of sudden, I can't help but flinch and my heart beat rises automatically, I'm not lying when I say that even for the smallest things my blood pressure rises. Around two months ago, I had to go to the Doctor bc I got sick and the nurse had to ask a few personal things that got me anxious so quickly that once we were done, my heart was running wild in my chest. The next thing the nurse did was to check on my blood pressure and guess what? It was higher than it should be. Next thing she did was to do a quick test of my blood and it was all fine, so she brushed the blood pressure as me being sick.
When I had to start therapy, the hardest part was to talk about the things that were stressing me out. It suprised me how difficult was it for me to put them into words, because the first sessions, whenever I tried to start talking, my voice trembled and my heart beat would rise, the ability to breath leaving my body with each try. The psychiatrist had to literally drug me with xanax, then rivotril just for me to calm down and be able to fucking talk lol.
I suppose this is the reason that his latest PV got me a little too emotional: he's the one who offers his heart for you to listen, he's the one who tells you that his heart holds no secrets that can't be uncovered and softly asks you to be honest. I'm sure that the topics of the card are less serious that the things I've talked about here but the point still remains; in order for you to open up, he also puts himself in a somewhat vulnerable but sincere position, making you know you're both in equal terms. You put your heart on the table, he does it too. He holds you closer for you to listen his heart, his sincerity something so soft yet endearing that I just know I'd be able to say everything.
Most of the times, to talk about these topics with a few ppl has been quite frustrating. These are things I don't talk about with my family to a certain point and my friends don't have the emotional capacity to handle such things. I know I overwhelmed them and none of them knew what to say when the topic was lying there on the table, bare and ugly. The only friend that was able to offer some support was actually someone that went through a very similar situation than me.
This is not a complaint, in life I've come to understand that most people won't feel emphaty for you unless they truly understand the meassure of what you went through and most cases, it only happens if they have experienced it by themselves. Of course, this won't stop them from trying to be kind but they probably wouldn't realize that their words could hurt you instead of helping you. My friends aren't bad, they're just rough because life has made us like that, no one in this life has been taught how to help. We learn it by experience.
That's another thing that I love about Zayne, he literally exists to help. He made it his mission in life to help. If I were to ask emotional support from him, I know he would take it as it is: a place where one is allowed to be weak. No judgments, no assumptions, just a space to feel safe to breakdown. When MC opened up to him about losing her family and how that was the reason she was having an unhealthy lifestyle lately, instead of his normal nagging, he understood her and said how she had the right to do what she could to cope with her pain but just asked her to make sure not to get injured in the process. He didn't judge her, he gave her a space to acknowledge her pain and the way she was dealing with it, and they weren't even that close back then.
I've been learning to live with this heart of mine who gets scared so easily that it's kind of funny how I came to love this fictional character whose role is to be a cardiac surgeon xD When I started to play this game nobody told me that this Doctor would literally help me heal my heart. If my body flinches when someone touches me, to see the extra care and love he touches MC with makes me feel so many things. He's been broken too many times that of course he knows how to hold something with the utmost care.
I started to play around the end of February and I'm still surprised at how Zayne's writing has checked out all the boxes in my fragile spots. He's been so therapeutic for me, and it's just surprising (and a little bit sad) how he's helped me to heal what real men (and some women) have broken in me. He's the man that has helped me the most aside from my brothers and step father who only hurt me greatly the day he decided to leave this world. It's so funny how a fictional character has done all of this to me, how his reminders about eating and sleeping properly worked for me outside of the game and how he telling me to have more confidence also helped that now I even also have a better job, (I mentioned it in another posts, but for a couple of years my mental state made it difficult for me to get a job and the jobs I was able to get later were all informal and bad paid) but I also can't help thinking that he's a man written by women after all and I wonder if some ppl in his writing team had gone through difficult situations and crafted him out of the things that helped them to heal.
Women help women at the end. I wish Zayne's writing team a long and happy life. And I wish the same for the other LI's writing teams because I know just as Zayne has helped me and other girlies to get up and keep going forward, the other guys have done the same for their girlies ❤️🩹
Thank you, Zayne and your writing team for making my 2024 better than the previous years and helping me to start moving in life again ❤️🩹

I officially got diagnosed with high blood pressure!! I also got blood work done which shows I have high cholesterol (bad cholesterol being about 3x what it should be) and my doctor also suspects fatty liver. I was given until August to make improvements (diet and exercise). Then I will get another blood panel to see if my cholesterol is still high. My doctor didn’t sound very optimistic that I would get it under control and even told me that she will make sure the pharmacist has some meds in stock come August.
Now that's exactly how every death piggy should treat their bodies, stuffing yourself with the greasiest and most fattening food you can find while admiring all the damages you're doing to your growing body and having no self control whatsoever
I'm glad you treat your health issues as milestones at this point, especially with the impressive effect you've done to your obese body, just waiting to add more health issues to your list
And congratulations on all your achievements, I'm sure it wasn't easy to get there and I know all the death piggies will use your experience as a goal they can work towards, especially if they want to grow immobile, hooked up on oxygen while they stuff themselves silly until their lard ridden heart can't take it anymore 🐷☠️🩷

People who had severe infections are especially vulnerable.
Since nearly the start of the pandemic, scientists have known that a Covid-19 infection increases the risk of heart problems. A growing body of research now suggests that this risk can last until well after the infection has cleared.
One recent study, conducted by researchers at the University of Southern California and Cleveland Clinic, found that a Covid-19 infection doubled the risk of a major cardiovascular event for up to three years afterward. What’s more, the study found that infections severe enough to require hospitalization increased the likelihood of cardiac events as much as — or more than — having previously had a heart attack did.
“A lot of people are at even greater risk of heart attack than they were before,” said Dr. David Goff, director for the cardiovascular sciences division at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, which provided funding for the study. “And heart disease is already the leading cause of death on our planet before the pandemic. So this is really concerning.”
Given the volume of evidence now linking Covid-19 to heart inflammation, heart failure, arrhythmia and other cardiovascular issues, experts said, doctors should be taking a closer look at patients’ Covid history.
People who had a severe infection “should be considered at high risk for future cardiovascular events,” said Dr. Stanley Hazen, the chair of the department of cardiovascular and metabolic sciences at Cleveland Clinic and one of the authors of the new study.
The Science on Covid and the Heart Anyone who has had an infection faces an elevated risk of heart problems, and research shows this risk is highest around the time of initial infection and for those who had the most severe disease, said Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, chief of research and development at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Healthcare System.
Dr. Al-Aly analyzed data from a national V.A. database and compared outcomes after one year of patients who had a Covid infection and of those who did not. For every 1,000 patients, there were 23 more “major adverse cardiac events,” almost 20 more cases of irregular heartbeat and 10 more incidents related to blood clotting disorders in the Covid group than the control group. By the three-year mark, the risk of heart problems had fallen to base-line levels for patients who had not been hospitalized but remained somewhat elevated for those who had.
Dr. Al-Aly’s research has also shown that the incidence of long-term heart problems associated with Covid has dropped since the beginning of the pandemic, as the virus mutated into somewhat milder strains and more people got vaccinated.
Though people are still getting sick from Covid and developing long-term health issues from it, Dr. Al-Aly said, “it’s undeniably much, much less than before.”
The new study, which analyzed a large data set from Britain of patients age 50 and up, reaffirmed some of the earlier findings, showing that those hospitalized for Covid-19 were almost four times as likely to have a heart attack or stroke or die over the following three years as those who did not have an infection.
Unlike other research, though, the study found that for all patients who had a Covid infection, the elevated risk persisted at relatively the same level for as long as follow-up data was available — nearly three years.
“That’s actually one of the more surprising findings,” Dr. Hazen said. “There’s no signs of attenuation of that risk.”
How Does Covid Cause Heart Disease? Scientists aren’t entirely sure how exactly a Covid infection causes cardiovascular disease, but they suspect a few pathways are at play.
The virus can damage the endothelial cells that line blood vessels, leading to inflammation, Dr. Goff said. This could cause a plaque that has already built up from cholesterol and other materials to break apart, form a clot and block a blood vessel, in turn leading to a heart attack or stroke.
That type of blockage can cause sudden death or downstream damage to heart muscles and other tissue, ultimately leading to heart failure or an arrhythmia, Dr. Goff explained.
Even without pre-existing plaque buildup, Dr. Al-Aly said, there is growing evidence that an infection can activate an inflammatory pathway that makes platelets clump up and form clots that can clog blood vessels.
It’s also possible that in some cases, the body may not completely get rid of the virus, creating low-grade chronic inflammation that could damage heart tissues and subsequently lead to heart disease, he said.
The new study found that people with a non-O blood type — A, B or AB — have an especially increased risk for heart disease after a Covid-19 infection, though having an O blood type doesn’t eliminate the risk entirely. It’s not clear why this is the case, Dr. Hazen said, but it appears that blood type may be linked to clotting risk.
How to Protect Your Heart The first thing you should do is to get your vaccine or booster, doctors said. Vaccines reduce the severity of an initial infection, making you less likely to end up in the hospital. Vaccines also boost the immune system’s ability to clear the virus, Dr. Al-Aly said, reducing the odds of a persistent infection that causes chronic inflammation.
Beyond vaccination, doctors recommend taking the connection between Covid and heart disease seriously — especially if you had a severe infection or already have a risk factor like high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes.
After you have recovered from Covid, “see your doctor, so you know your numbers,” Dr. Goff said.
More research needs to be done on how, exactly, Covid increases heart disease risk and what treatments might effectively reduce that risk, Dr. Goff said. But doctors and patients already have some tools at their disposal.
For example, when someone is at increased risk for heart disease because of elevated cholesterol or diabetes, doctors may recommend statins.
Low-dose aspirin also can help prevent blood clotting in high-risk patients. In the new study, patients who reported taking aspirin before getting Covid were less likely to have a heart attack or stroke after the infection than patients who did not.
If you have had a severe Covid infection, Dr. Goff said, you can reduce your risk of heart disease by eating a healthy diet, such as the DASH diet, getting plenty of physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight, avoiding cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke and getting good rest every night.
And even if you haven’t had a severe Covid infection, these measures will help protect your heart, too.

Alastor Headcanons: His Body, Anatomy, and Sexuality
His Hellish, cervine body has a light, single-coated coat. He would get molts if Hell had photoperiodism, so if you want an Al that gets floof during the fall and winter, then thank the longer nights and cooler air.
By square inch, deer have more hair follicles than humans, but not Alastor. So even though he’s got visible down on every exposed bit of skin, it’s not particularly dense, making it ineffective at thermoregulating - it doesn’t block enough sun, doesn’t regulate the heat, and doesn’t parse cool air. He’s lucky that he’s a Louisiana-summer-swamp homebody, otherwise Hell’s heat would suck.
If Al ever took a modern health check whilst alive, he’d learn he’s prone to hypotension and high cholesterol. Casual cocaine consumption also messed up his gastrointestinal system, putting him at a high risk of ulcers and hernias. Luckily, he never got one of those ‘cause the surgeries available at the time for ulcers had a whopping 33% mortality rate. He did have repeated potty problems, though, and it was public knowledge that cocaine was the cause. Didn’t stop him.
Heck, I’m not sure if I headcanon Hellaverse bodies as having the same properties of their living counterparts. If they do, then Al’s high meat consumption + cocaine use = nasty shits. He’d be constantly dehydrated, with a horrible acid reflux. And that’s not even taking into account if he drinks alcohol, coffee, or smokes tobacco.
When mortal, Alastor’s body hair was curly, and there was a single very sparse stripe of minimal hair down his sternum that really only betrayed how svelte his figure was, if anything. By adulthood, he had long since accepted that he’d never be the image of masculine fevor.
And yes, the dick has also changed upon death. It didn’t outright turn into an actual deer’s dick, but it now rests inside a pouchy sheath to protect its coat-less flesh. He actually likes that development. Extra coverings. Nature’s own athletic cup.
His asexuality + his age (early forties) means that he has trouble getting it up. If he’s ever getting down and dirty, half the time it’s ¾ mast at most, and it won’t stay hard for long. A lot of his cums are dry, limp ones, and only if he makes the effort at all.
Sinner bodies change based off of what they like about themselves, what they don’t like about themselves, and are largely intended to be ironic caricatures. Alastor’s very aware of the whole ‘deer symbolism’ thing he’s got going on. As the years went on, he also noticed that his chest expands in direct relation to his antlers, and so does his scrotum. Yeah, you heard me.
Basically, I headcanon that Hell sometimes takes a Silent Hill-esque tulpar approach to a sinner’s body. A buck’s rack is symbolic of masculinity, and so is violence. The more bloodthirsty Alastor feels, the more his body morphs its superficial masculine traits. Popular fanon has Al’s father been abusive whilst his mother a supportive and loving figure. In Alastor’s world, violence is masculine.
And by the way, did you know that deer antlers are actually a controlled form of cancer? It begins as cartilage supplied by blood vessels and living tissue, then turns into bone and dies, sitting there as dead weight until the skull decides to sever it. Alastor’s antlers aren’t bone, they’re carbon - the hardest element in mammal bodies, lightly conductive to electricity, and a great transceiver for radio signals. His talons are the same. Sharpened carbon/iron is very deadly.
Alastor’s radio powers have a hard limit on their bandwidth - he can only use the lowest and widest wavelengths. So no atomic powers for him. He can’t even microwave his enemies. Radio waves can transmit very far and deep, but have the lowest effect on atoms. AKA, they’re perfect for relaying sounds and images without irradiating a country.
Now, radio waves need a transceiver to broadcast. Alastor’s entire body is one big transceiver, with his antlers acting as antenna, his body bulk encoding the frequency modulation, and his feet electricity conductors that receive energy from the ground. If none of his body is connected to a power source (like, he’s floating in the air or something), he can still do radio shit, but only AM waves, like real-life radios before electricity.
Now, all that frequency translation takes its toll on the body. Constantly passing low-vibration waves throughout his organs mean a weak heart, varicose veins, brittle bones, lung inflammation, and more. All that, combined with his low BMI and poor diet means he is a sickly man. Tuck into the bedsheets like a dying Victorian child sort of sickly. A doctor from his lifetime would be prescribing him a diet of milk toast and citric acid tablets.
You know he’s letting huge walls down if he so much as coughs whilst in your presence. In public, he’d never be seen rubbing at his aching chest or slouching from his cramping intestines. He’s got an Image to put on, after all.
Don’t coddle his various aches and pains. He knows perfectly well why his body is fucked up, and he doesn’t intend to do anything about it. To him, his wack deer form is riddled with battle scars, proof of his power and hard work.
