to be clear, because i’ve seen multiple posts asking for a bootleg of how to dance in ohio (and a lot of you appear to be minors who might not know how bootlegs work)—
as of right now, there are so few video masters (people who create bootlegs and share them), that you can count them all on your fingers. this is not just in new york, either, but across the world. almost all of the recent bootlegs are created by a very very small number of people. these are NOT random people/tourists with a camera who decide to see a show and film.
video masters (VM) will film things they want to see (one specific VM loves moulin rouge and has many moulin rouge videos), things they get commissioned for (meaning someone will pay for their ticket to the show in exchange for the bootleg, this is very rare though! most masters do not take requests!), or things they know are popular/will get sales (as this is a business for them).
not every show will get a video bootleg. some shows are not popular, some shows the masters have no interest in seeing, sometimes there simply isn’t a day that works with the master’s scheduling, etc. whatever the reason, some shows simply just do not get a video bootleg. and that’s just how life is.
in how to dance in ohio’s case, by the time the show closes, it will have played 99 total performances. that is it. it won’t have broken the 100 performances mark. the shorter the run of a show, the less likely there is to be a bootleg of it. especially when closing is announced 3 weeks out. the video masters calendars could be already full if they’re in new york, or they might not live in new york and three weeks is not enough notice for them to come out and film.
that said, if there was a how to dance in ohio bootleg, it almost 100% would be NFT” right now or not for trade. to prevent these bootlegs from getting back to the show/production and having them figure out who filmed it, the VMs will often put a NFT date many months in advance. the bootleg would only be available to buy through the master until the not-for-trade date has passed. because bootlegging is, first and foremost, illegal, this NFT date tries to put distance between the date of filming and the release of the video to prevent the master from getting into any legal trouble.
if you know a specific bootleg exists and you know who the master is, feel free to contact them directly. making posts about it in the shows tag is not the way to access bootlegs. if you do get a bootleg, do not post it on tiktok, youtube, instagram, whatever other social media site. once again, this is illegal and we are not trying to draw attention to the existence of bootlegs.
additionally, in the specific instance of how to dance in ohio, the cast is on tumblr. while some of them have made their thoughts about bootlegs known, it is still something to keep away from the cast. not all cast members feel the same way about things and some of them might not care for bootlegs.
finally, as a lot of the people asking for the bootlegs are minors, you might not remember a few years back. the current video masters really only came onto the scene about 5 or so years ago. before that, it was almost impossible to find videos of shows. right now, we are very lucky to have multiple active video masters especially with such good quality equipment. many shows were shared using audio bootlegs, which is still a great way to access a show you might not have otherwise seen.
as an aside - this post is not an invitation to argue about the logistics of selling bootlegs. there are many reasons masters sell their bootlegs - primarily, to make back the money on their tickets. broadway shows are very expensive as we all know, and masters have to buy specific seats in order for them to feel comfortable filming. masters also upgrade their equipment (i’m talking $1000+ camera equipment), which is offset by people buying these videos. if you have comments about how bootlegging is illegal and selling illegal work is bad, i don’t care to hear it.
tl;dr - there might not ever be a video bootleg of how to dance in ohio and that’s okay. you are allowed to be upset you can’t see a show, but you cannot automatically assume a bootleg of a show will exist. we protect video masters and do not share their work.
if you have questions, my ask box is open.

I know it has nothing to do with the topics we've been talking about here lately, but I really wish the yt channel Mike Patton Bootlegs would also release the videos of the gigs too and not just the audios... I keep listening to these while I'm working from home and I'm always trying to picture the image of what the hell they're talking about, because it's always very funny. Here's my plea: Mike Patton bootlegs, please release the videos too!!! 😭
oh, my sweet, sweet, summer anon. MP Bootlegs can't release video from those gigs bc for the vast majority of them, video of the show doesn't exist!
I kinda do hate the phrase "back in my day" but....I have to....back in my day, when you went to a show there was most likely someone sneaking in an audio recording device, usually some sort of tape recorder, and they were small enough to fit into a big coat pocket. You might even get a little mic to pin onto your shirt or something. But to record video? Shit, that was a camcorder at the smallest, maaaaayyyyybe able to get a half hour of tape footage, and fit very bulk-ily into a bookbag - and god forbid your bag got searched and they confiscated something that cost a few hundred dollars of 1990s money. That there is audience video AT ALL, say, pre-2005 is a little miracle - by then there weren't smartphones, but digital handycams started to be an affodrable thing, I think?
So ya, it's worth checking if there's video of certain shows you love, but really, there's not much out there, at all. It's sort of why there was this culture around trading audio bootlegs for any musician, it's what we had!!
On a side note, to some extent older folks, especially older musicians and other performers, sometimes kind of miss the days of not everything being recorded - the live performance kind of being a sacred time that only the audience and performer would share at the moment...I sometimes feel like Mike feels that way...

Man, if someone manages to get video of the very last performance of the title song, final lair and/or the music of the night reprise, I will be a very happy Phan and likely highly emotional.
I would not be surprised if clips, multiple ones, come out of the last public performance. I'm not holding out hope for the very last one, since it's for VIP guests and alumni only (any Phantom alumni who are also bootleg filmers? any of you?), though maybe they'll film parts of it and release small clips later.
But for the last public performance, I know at least one person who was planning to go to every show in the last week and film all of them. I know of one, maybe two people who were going to basically the same amount and at least getting clips of the big scenes. I know people on the trading Discord I'm in were talking of filming the final performance.
So I'm sure there will be something, it's just a matter of waiting as people gather themselves, get clips off their devices, upload, put up information. Seriously, Phantom on Broadway just closed, give us a break! We're all in mourning here...

AAA games? Pfft. Indie games? Double pfft.
I only play games from the alternate history where Hillary Clinton was elected in 2008 and banned all video games. You can only imagine how weird their underground gaming scene is. People like to call unlicensed games "bootlegs" but they've got actual bootlegged games! I've played games about helping your grandmother in hospice care realize she's a lesbian by reading Sappho to her, at 2am in a speakeasy in Baltimore. The cops raided it the next night, hundreds of Gamers were arrested. They posted pictures all over Friendster of the Baltimore PD destroying the arcades with axes.
I nearly got busted once because I was imaging old disks from a 386 and someone tipped off the gaming cops that there was a copy of Commander Keen in there. I had to prove that I didn't know it, I was imaging the disks blind and then indexing them later, and I would of course turn over any contraband to the proper authorities.
I was already on a watch list because I'd been known to have some gamedev-related activities pre-ban. They can't arrest me for making games back in 2007 when it was still legal, but they do want to keep an eye on me since I have the skills to break the law.
Anyway that universe's bootlegs are mainly PC games. Can't really have console games if there hasn't been a console release since the Wii/PS3/360 era. At one point Nintendo threatened to release the Wii SDK so game devs in the US could make unlicensed games, but that didn't happen as there were quickly no functional Wiis left in the US, except for very rare holdouts that never move. PC games are easy to distribute samizdat and hide on a USB stick or CD-R labeled "nickelback".
Japan's games industry is still going, so the later Nintendo and Sony consoles still exist, but Microsoft got out of the business of course. They sold the franchise to Sega who were hoping to release the 360 successor (the Xbox One in our universe) as the Sega Phoenix but it never materialized, either through their own financial incompetence or because of pressure from the US. There's a lot of international treaties that the US has pushed "and this aid only goes through if you ban games" clauses into. That would have been an official UN resolution if the USSR hadn't vetoed it. For once, thank God for the security council, eh?
I mainly get my gaming news through Japanese gaming sites (through a set of VPNs, since they're blocked at the border firewall), and some tor onion site run by a weird guy in Minnesota who is obsessed with documenting all the underground US games.
There's a lot being worked on, but it's always a tricky trade off. Too much attention and the police might be able to track down the creators, and it's basically impossible to fund underground games, as the VISA/PayPal etc funds get seized immediately. There's a whole task force for that.
Anyway one of the weirdest differences between our two time lines is that they've gone back and edited out gaming from a bunch of movies. Those that they can, of course. War games was just banned because they couldn't remove the tic tac toe ending. The Net just removed the scene at the beginning where she's playing Wolfenstein 3D, by recording some new screen footage and a new voice over. She's fixing a spreadsheet in the new edition.
(Yes, I've seen The Net from this alternate timeline. On Laserdisc, of course. I'm just that kind of person!)
They even edited Star Wars. You know that scene where R2-D2 is playing holochess with Chewie? They edited it to be a board game instead of holograms, because that made it too "video gamey".
Technically it's not illegal to show gaming in a movie, but it needs to be an 18+ film and you have to show the deleterious effects of gaming and/or the gamesters coming to a bad end.
This has affected films less than you'd think, to be honest. They were never great about showing video games even before they banned them.
Anyway, go have fun playing your AAA games with hundred-million-dollar budgets. I only play indie games made by people under a constant threat of arrest for their art.

Hello, would you be able to explain why wicked bootlegs are called slime tutorials? It's very clever but I'm curious as to the origin. Thank u!
Ha! I actually can, though you could probably guess the answer:
So back around ~2016, Universal was in pretty serious talks to make a Wicked movie, as they were a little jealous of the Les Mis movie’s popularity in 2012 and Menzel’s resurgence of popularity after Frozen. As part of this, they got really aggressive about copyright and began blasting the best Wicked bootlegs off the internet left and right. They apparently even sent C/D takedown letters to people who ran bootleg blogs listing the recordings they had for trade.
Around that same time, the genre of ASMR “how to make slime” tutorials was starting to get really popular on YouTube. There were approximately 8 million of them being posted every day by anybody with a camera. So people who filmed broadway performances began uploading them under names like “Wickedly Cool Green Slime Tutorial - O/B/C Full” and “Pink Slime and Green Slime Tutorial - SJB/AA” , or even “As Long As You’re Slime - Aaron Tveit” to bury them in a sea of uploads and avoid their removal.
Fans did this for a variety of different broadway performances - the term DEFINITELY wasn’t exclusive to Wicked, by any means. I’m actually pretty sure the term was first used for the Hamilton OBC performances that circulated back then, since those were still hush-hush.
However, Wicked performances in particular are among the most highly sought-after in the bootleg community (mostly bc each set of actresses creates a pretty different viewing experience, and there’s tons of weird lore). Plus Universal’s aggressive takedowns were making them harder and harder to find on the open web.
Thus, the term “slime tutorial” (or “slimes”) is commonly used for all musical recordings, but it became very highly associated with Wicked performances in particular!

… if you want to read my essay on how gay Nick Carraway is it’s under the cut
Until recent years, very few authors had the courage to express homosexuality in their work for fear of institutional punishment or negative social reaction. With stories like that of Oscar Wilde, writers were accurately terrified to explicitly explore the diversity of the sexual and romantic interests of their characters. Despite this, they were not stopped and authors chose to implement their gay characters with artistic subtlety. F. Scott Fitzgerald's most well known novel, The Great Gatsby, homes one example of this type of character. Although he does not live in a time period where he can be open about it, Nick Carraway is a homosexual man and this fact is crucial to truly understanding his self and his relationship with Jay Gatsby.
Perhaps the most damning evidence of Nick's sexuality is the fact that the only sexual encounter he is implied to have had is with Chester McKee after the party in New York (28), but it is not all. Nick's homosexuality is most casually clear in the descriptions he gives of the people in his life. Although he does acknowledge past romantic relations with women, he does not read as particularly interested in them. When questioned about a rumoured fiancée out West, Nick remarks that he is very opposed to "being rumored into marriage," (15) and in his first meeting with his supposed love interest, Jordan Baker, Nick compares her to a cadet (an exclusively male occupation at the time) and points out her most masculine features as ideal including her small breasts and erect carriage (8). In comparison, Nick's descriptions of the men around him are rich with intrigue; Nick notices how Tom Buchanan's eyes establish dominance in his face and the way his muscles move under his clothing (5). When Nick speaks about the train conductor on the hottest day of the summer, he critiques people who think of kissing flushed lips and laying with a partner in the heat despite no one else in that scene expressing those feelings (87). The suddenness of this flustered complaint implies that Nick is reacting to his own desires; desires he wishes he did not have.
While Nick is at least vaguely attracted to multiple men in his story, there is one he is consistently interested in throughout: Jay Gatsby. From their first meeting where Nick goes on about how pleasant a smile Gatsby has (36) onwards, Nick is very fond of Gatsby, going so far as to emphasise that he is the only rich person he did not end up disgusted by (2) and that all of the East was haunted for him after Gatsby's death (137). In Gatsby's life, Nick even expressed his affections to him in whatever ways he could. For example, when Nick agrees to reintroduce Gatsby and Daisy, he does not allow Gatsby to reimburse the favour (62). Also, after Myrtle's death, Nick only leaves Gatsby's side because he feels like he is intruding (112), returns to a bed he can not fall asleep in, and takes the first opportunity available to meet Gatsby again at dawn (113). Nick listens to Gatsby's story then (114), something nobody else would do in favour of spreading scandalous, borderline slanderous rumours.
Nick claims he is not a judgemental person, but proves himself wrong as the novel progresses in regards to every person he has met but one. Despite remarking that he disapproved of Gatsby "from beginning to end" (118), he was equally endeared to him. Nick also claims to be an honest person (44), which he proves not entirely true either. Realising Nick's true feelings for Gatsby reveals the intricacy of his character and calls into question the reliability of his narration. Although his intentions are always sympathetic, Gatsby is by trade a bootlegging criminal and yet even after meeting Meyer Wolfsheim and being told about his business (54), Nick plays ignorant about Gatsby's involvement. To Nick, the idea of Jay Gatsby is related only tertiarily to the idea of "Wolfsheim's men". Nick makes this clear every time he visits Gatsby after Wolfsheim's men begin working at his house by how suspicious he always is of them, even describing one's face as “villainous" (86). Nick does not judge Gatsby as the same as these people nor the Buchanans despite not being so different in truth because he is already in love with him and truly wants to believe he is a good person at heart. Even Tom Buchanan is aware of this on some level, showing his cognisance after Gatsby's death by telling Nick that "(Gatsby) threw dust into (Nick's) eyes just like he did in Daisy's" (138).
To ignore Nick's sexuality is to intentionally misunderstand his character and The Great Gatsby as a story. On his surface, Nick Carraway is a single objective voice in a world of desires and deceit, but as much of The Great Gatsby does, his character requires the reader to look below to his own human biases if they intend to comprehend him.

Not slime tutorial :(
Hey everyone!
I have been made aware (kindly and rudely) that sharing a bootleg link after the tutorial has already been leaked leads to more bad than it does good. I have therefore taken down the post I made originally.
Once the NFT date passes (january 5th) I will share it privately with people who ask (and will be willing to trade). that's also the date I'm gonna be posting the edits I make with it since that's the date that it becomes more public.
I can't speak for everyone who shared the boot but I sincerely apologize since I did not realise what kind of effect sharing this could have. I'm a bit sceptical about actors suing people who filmed it since they have been seen commenting and interacting with bootleg clips multiple times, but because it is apperantly a possibility I do not want to risk being the cause of that.
I think we should all be able to enjoy our favorite musicals, even remotely, but sadly that's not how it works in reality. Therefore I will respect the makers wishes and suspend sharing the bootleg until after the NFT date.
I am autistic and a lot of times struggle with seeing consecuenses or knowing what things my actions can cause. I am aware of this and am working on it. However this is not an excuse and I should have read more into it. My lack of knowlegde and my inability to oversee the future caused me to unknowingly cause harm to people.
I once again apologize for any inconvenience caused and if there's anything I missed in this apology or that I need to change please do let me know.
To everyone that reached out to me to kindly inform me why what I did was hurtful and what kinds of things it can cause: Thank you a lot and I really appericiate all of you. I was not aware of what sharing bootlegs could do and now I am. A sincere thank all of you again because you took the time to inform me on why what I did was wrong instead of jumping to conclusions.
I want to give a particulair big thank you to one tumblr user who took their time to in depth explain to me why what I did was wrong and the impact it had/could have. I cannot for the life of me remember their user but you know who you are <3
To everyone who decided to attack me for sharing it: Fuck you too <3 (Not in a mean way but also you could have just not done that)

Hi I really like this blog and since you're also a European you might actually have an answer
What's your favourite Citroën? I'm really partial to the 2010 era Picassos mainly because it was my first car.
INTRO - Citroën Makes a(nother) Cubist MPV
I'm also quite familiar with the C4 Picasso, as I've mentioned before, and its predecessor the Xsara Picasso, as I've also mentioned - the latter actually being the first car I was there for the purchase of! I remember it rather fondly, but looking back at it it was a rather cheap vehicle, with levers that snapped off, rear trays that popped out, and the overall feeling of being inside an electric toothbrush upon exceeding highway speed limits. And of course, the repeated engine failures that pushed us to update.
The C4 Picasso had its flimsy and questionable bits as well, but much less so - though, unlike its progenitor, it did once leave us stranded, the clutch living up to the C4 name. But hey, it was one time. And it had some cool features, even beyond the piéce de resistance brought up in that post. The little side pods containing the climate controls...
Tumblr media
...the integrated perfume offered by a little capsule we definitely bothered to get refills for, as perfectly illustrated by this lovely YouTube thumbnail...
Tumblr media
...a trunk light that detached to become a flashlight, a handbrake I once again dare readers to spot, gloveboxes atop the dashboard, and yet more still... including, perhaps most importantly, a windshield so humongous that it required a two-stage sun visor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am a big believer in the power of glass when it comes to improving a car's experience (see how hard I raved about a sunroof) and this really did do much more than give the car alopecia.
But it could only bring so much excitement to a cheap, anemic MPV in the famed grey I've gone over my distaste for and an interior color best described as "dirty interior".
The design of the C3 Picasso, which I seem to be completely alone in appreciating...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...was apparently inspired, along with Smeg fridges, by iPods (and judging by these pictures, the car's size seems to be somewhere between the two).
And, well, my hazy recollection of our C4 has it feeling a bit closer to an iPod bootleg - a funky, ambitious design writing a check that its build quality couldn't quite cash.
And indeed, that chapter ended when we weren't willing to fork over for the nth repair. But since the dealership offered us such a pittance to trade it in, family friends were able and willing to muster a better offer and so it lives on under their ownership. I'm happy about that - and, since we let it go before I began driving, I would be curious to give it a try. But it's no love of mine.
And not because it's too everyday a vehicle to be that - I don't need a supercar to get excited.
But, as we'll see tomorrow, it does help.

Everyone look at my beautiful Bootleg Figurine 🥰
I've been having a lot of fun with [Livly Island] lately, if you like dress up, decorating and/or clicking on cute little critters that squeak when you pick them up I definitely recommend it! As an artist I really enjoy seeing all the creative Island design concepts, and how you can mix and match pieces with other sets.
You need to be able to handle gacha mechanics though… I'll talk more under the cut.
The FOMO levels are definitely high since there are SO many good banners and also "these items will not return" shops/events now and then so you will surely get rinsed if your defense stats are low. However, normal banners stay for 6 months and there's a trading feature if you pull dupes, so it's possible to get the things you want even if you ignore specific banners! fwiw it's decently generous when it comes to giving you currency...
Trading also means Player Economy stuff is part of the game, perhaps other pet sites has taught you it's fun to invest in hot items to sell for a lot later? As a fresh f2p it'll take a while until you have good enough trade fodder to truly play around on that front tho.
The actual gameplay otherwise is just "visit other people's islands to water their tree or pick their fruit" rinse repeat. Riveting stuff I know, but the low time investment is a plus in itself.
If you do give it a go here's a couple tips for early on: After you've decided on a Livly buddy and they show you some pre-made hom avatars to choose from, pick the one with prettiest hairstyle and/or eyes since it'll most likely take a while until you can collect better options. (btw, you can both change your Livly or adopt more later so don't get too stunlocked by the big list of choices)
There's a lot of banners active at once, make sure to click More-> to view all of them when it's time to do your freebie 10-draw. (Also make sure it's the right tab so you don't accidentally pull the Island side if you want Hom dress up items!)
Tumblr media
Here's a nice FAQ (WIP) website, if you like discord there's an official server too: https://ludicrous-sherbet-89f.notion.site/Livly-Island-Guide-ENG-dc95853cc748414b83b25d9d3726bcbc
Most important to keep in mind as a beginner is the Revive Ticket tip mentioned under "Shops & Special Events" (ie after grabbing it from your final rookie quest, leave it in your inbox until you have saved up enough for a soul-link (pity/"spark")
/move to Park and do Borodo's riddle ASAP, answer pre 16th is (rot13.com): tb gb zhyyre fgerrg jneq avar naq pyvpx npbea
After picking up the ugly xmas stocking from your inbox, put it on your island and you'll get some Livly hats on Xmas day
Anyway feel free to add me if you're playing: x7f7f8v4 If you're allergic to official discord servers you can message me here on tubmlr if you have questions about the game and I'll do my best to help you…
