though, lingering over that last post....I wonder how easily this trips into horror story? I mean, in this world where there are child-producing marriages and then sisterhoods/brotherhoods for the rest, this obviously allows the family to keep a stranglehold on their collective assets and wealth. Therefore, I bet that family is an even more tightly-locked cage for those born into it.
Oh, you thought that if you could just escape marriage you'd be free, didn't you? You thought you could join the local order and letter manuscripts or tend goats or say prayers over the dying---but no. No, that's for other people's sons and daughters. You have no escape. You will serve your family forever, whether you will or no. You marry who they tell you to and live in your family's third-nicest castle your whole life; you can have as many lovers and bastards as you want, you can earn coin all on your own, if you can, but it will come to naught in the end. You will be cursed with absolute surety of where you fall: res nullius.
As it was and ever shall be, amen.
#and the reverse! no longer is becoming a monk or a nun a way to try and climb the ranks of a highly stratified system#because the wealthy nobles don't dump their spares into the church and pay for them to be abbot of wherever#instead they push them into brother/sisterhoods#where they don't have to worry about losing access to those familial assets long term#the question is then - if this system is so good at keeping everyone inside it#how does it break. where does it break.#I think you could do some real gender fuckery with this concept as well but I'd have to think about how#........also we'd probably have to change some probate law around. because there's no way that your third son#should be able to bequeath YOUR castle to his illegitimate son#even if you did give it to your son and his 'brother' on their wedding day.#I'd have to get really into medieval wills though and who has the time.#(I'm avoiding work can you tell?)#for my own purposes

There's something so insane to me about being able to create and recreate vintage or even ancient music, clothes, fabrics, building architecture, anything, really.
I watched this video about a lady who knit a WWII-era vest, and it was really unique, because the cable work would eat up yarn, when there were shortages of fibers. This pattern would have likely been used by people to send overseas to soldiers, and now it's being created in a time where this war has been over for generations. What were the people making this pattern thinking of? What about the people making the vest? Could they fathom a world where world wars didn't happen back to back? Could they imagine what peace felt like, or did it fade like a distant memory, a faint friend? All we have now are the remnants of their efforts, a "simple" vest that would warm the bodies of countless people the knitter would never have imagined were here on earth with them.
We're reaching across time to learn about other people - we're reaching our hands out just to grasp anything tangible. And when we've take hold of something, all we can do is say I love you I love you I love you
#positivity#art#i also come across this absolutely stunning woman who collects vintage pieces from the '50s and it's just. it's mind boggling#or how we've found ancient sheet music and have recreated its contents#do you ever think about how we're time travelers#do you ever think about what might be recreated of us in the future#this isn't about nostalgia baiting but about how we learn and process the ways that people in the past lived#you don't have to feel nostalgic for WWII to be intrigued by this (it would be very concerning if one WAS nostalgic for WWII)#i just. i die a little inside because i know i will never know everything...#...i will never know every lottle thing about people in the past especially...#...and i am never completely satisfied because only a very selective amount of things are preserved and remembered...#...i wonder then what 'forgotten' people thought and felt and how they lived...#...especially as individuals or as a small clan of family and friends. i want to know them intomately - as if i myself have become emeshed..#...does this make sense. i don't just want to know about nobles and kings and the wealthy...#...i want to know what the lacemaker for a king felt making lace for the royals...#...i want to know what the rice field worker thought about when the fields were flooded and they swatted a bug away from their skin...#...i want to know what a mother of a small child thought when churning butter - her baby cooing and making a mess...#...and it sucks sometimes to know that we're time travelers but in a very narrow sense. but i still love what we have got...#...don't get me wrong i love it. but i still grieve that we have lost a lot of history - a lot of people...#...or maybe we have only lost them in the sense that we just haven't located and found them *yet*#anyway i've watched that video multiple times now and i just go absolutely animalistic thinking about it#all of this is complex and i have Plenty of thoughts about that. but at least to me this is what i've seen a lot - a lot of love#and isn't studying this - recreating it and analyzing it - isn't that a form of love?#am i... a nosy person..........

tbh i wish aup had more reps for characters who achieve greatness purely through hard work and effort. the emphasis on genius/being special is mayhaps way too much to the point that it feels kinda damn depressing for those who aint born as one.
#rant#why is everyone in aup a genius#the four musketeers have the potential for this but its unfortunate that we dont get to see it fleshed out#even aiden ended up relying on his antimagic talents in the long run#ngl owens would have been more impressive to me if they r hardworkers instead of born special#it would have made the fact that ludger took them in more interesting#and mayhaps even highlighted his qualifications as a teacher#(lowkey im still salty that we dont get the full arc of ludger teaching magic to arpa lmfao)#(owens growth feels much less impactful to me bc they are already so special that them becoming that OP is nothing surprising)#plus i thought fighting against the unfairness of the world was a theme for owens#even if one managed to close the gap between the wealthy and the poor or noble and non-noble#the division between a genius and a non-genius itself would only create another kind of classism#how r they gonna challenge it as the members of the one and only special talent club?#violetta is the closest to be the hardworking one but even then her achievement still has a hand of a devil in it#also while surna had to learn everything from scratch he had been around for hundreds if not thousands of years#not to diminish his achievements but that hardly counts cuz it still puts him next to the special treatment category#not to mention being able to learn something simply by observing it is also a kind of cheat code itself...

louise's friends throughout the years
#small details !!#starting off with the hairtie color ! in the beginning its orange bc that's jean's color. still awkward still “too feminine” and stuff#also ! jean hasnt been freaked out about the color red/orange bc william hasn't been revealed as a spy yet!!#and then its teal bc louise is becoming more himself but is still holding on to becoming john (green)#and then at the end its blue and the braid is looser bc that's jean's color! not red anymore bc she's changed#more details !!#in the first one john is only wearing a waistcoat bc he's too sick to get dressed all the way.#his glasses are rounder than louise's bc he's more artsy and more laid-back. he also has eyebags bc sick.#samuel is just. samuel. nothing too special there#second one! william is taking up a lot of space bc he's trying to be so much ! and his colors are all very red (except for the waistcoat)#bc hes a spy for the British. his waistcoat is green bc he's try to get to jean#jean is wearing greens bc that's john's clothing / color. its dark bc he's in mourning bc john & samuel r dead#ohh and i tried to make william's clothing fancy bc he's from a wealthy georgian family#third one ! uh. lams. also i made du ponceau and lafayette have different uniforms. lafayette is fancy so he has lace and his is darker#etc etc. du ponceau is light and more pastelly and less military bc hes not really.like. super duper military he just got there.#fourth one !!! i gave her earings bc i wanted to incorporate femininity back in.#also if you cant tell change in time period ! its the early 1800s now <3#new glasses (these ones have the little arm side pieces idk what they are called)! and i just gave her a random outfit lmao.#nothing too special about eloise and silas that's just. how they look.#oh ! the backgrounds ! first is orangey bc that's when louise was solely louise (orange!!) and then yellow bc that's samuel's color#and war was supposed to be samuel's thing. also its a go between green (john) & red (william). third is blue bc AMERICA#and fourth is green bc they are in vermont and living the cottagecore life.#and last but not least !!! louise is looking out and then only looks away to the people beside her when she's discovered himself#and he's happy.#okay now tagging#amrev oc#amrev#oc#oc art#original character

Thinking about how a lot of the most famous paintings are biblical or Shakespearean fanart
#@the classical art world that generally views fanart as “not real art”#it may not be your cuppa but that doesn't make it bad#feel like this concept modernly comes from fanart not being “marketable”#which is silly#but also 200 years ago if I had the privilege and connections to become an artisan I would have been paid big bucks by rich people to paint#the naked butts of their bible blorbos on their ceilings so they could show guests how wealthy and committed to god they were#anyways draw your blorbos have fun whats considered good in art is always changing and it's probably best to ignore it#fanart#fan art#classical art

what you need to understand about mass tourism and why it's so bad is that the people from the city that is being monopolized lose their home, coz tourism changes everything, your favorite places now have a ticket to pay to enter, your favorite restaurants close, so popular chains can grow, the feeling of home that you felt was true and genuine becomes a spectacle for foreigners that want the "warmt" your people are known to have, warmt which becomes fake cos in the end it all comes to 'making more money' off tourists
#dishes get changed to appease tourists !#places get dirty !#the poor becomes MORE poor and the wealthy more wealthy without any money going to the people that work for them#prices get higher ; tourists can afford that#people can't !#no more houses only more and more hotels and B&Bs#it's especially sad when your city was hated before and you're used to how you live and you get a sudden wave of tourism and everything#changes and your places your favorite places are now so full of people that you can't even go there anymore ...#the only people that understand this are the ones from places without art and history to protect

I've lost the privilege of being soft
When you're constantly at the mercy of others
A hard shell forms
You're covered in spikes
Eventually it consumes you
#wrenfea.exe#something i thought about during my morning commute#i was thinking about how seeing abled wealthy people able to be soft and be praised for it pisses me off#and why that was#i used to be able to be soft and sweet#but now im loud and angry and assertive#im no longer cute and shy im wild and paranoid#everytime i see a stranger i see a threat#my inherent vulnerability makes me need to protect myself#but if you're not vulnerable..if you have power...you can be soft and not face consequences#because its an act. you've never had to protect yourself like i have#but when you're disabled#people expect your submission but not your vulnerability#my rich white abled friends are all non-confrontational and considered sweet and cute and innocent#because theyve never had to protect themselves like i have theyve never been backed against the wall#they have money and power to protect themselves they dont need to become like stone#and when i cant protect myself? when my vulnerability shows through the cracks? its absolutely terrifying#chronic disability#chronic pain#spoonie#fibromyalgia#degenerative disc disease#spine problems#disability#chronic illness

31 and 10?
31. I think it depends on my mood, but the type I find most meditative and keep going back to is modern instrumental music. There’s certainly a lot out there, but one series I really like are the COSMOS volumes (I think there’s 4?) on YouTube. They’re great to actively listen to or have in the background while studying or something!
10. in a metaphorical sense, yeah. The upper class as we know it has become unsustainable, and still demands more. In the interest of the environment and humanity, there needs to be more regulation on these people/companies to a) prevent them from accumulating/hoarding such insane amounts of wealth in the first place, and b) actually hold them accountable for what they do to make acquiring that much money possible (ex. If a CEO tries skimping on safety protocols bc it’s expensive, then they need to be forced to take responsibility).
#lordofdragos#thanks for the ask!#Every time I see stats of how many people have what percent of the money in the US I feel my lifespan shorten#Like how can a divide as unequal as that be allowed to exist?#But ultimately for one to become SO insanely wealthy you know they’re stepping on several hands to get there

#thinking abt how after that nepo babies article there was a uk version#talking about how virtually all of showbiz here is nepo and/or privately educated#i mean just look at how many comedians joke about being at oxbridge#(also working class actors have been talking about this for ages#about how the industry is becoming less friendly to working class people than it was#which still was never great)#imo thats the root of the ''people like me'' line#and it lands a lot better here than it ever can in the us#where people have only ever seen him as wealthy#and class analysis in general in the us is uhhhh not good
