I’m rambling for far too long, but:

I think 2k12 Leo is such a good representation of what a teenager would be like given the responsibilities of being a leader; from the way he tries to emulate Captain Ryan, to the mistakes he makes, to the way he often gives in to whatever his brothers are up to (especially earlier on). And I love how we get to see him grow into that role of a leader, the toll it takes on him and the burdens he carries having that role instilled into him. Then there’s just the quintessential Leo traits of being insanely self sacrificial for his family etc.

But theres also the fact that a lot of the time, even within the fandom, people struggle to discuss or picture Leo as a character outside of his role as a leader. Obviously the turtles are always kind of boxed into specific traits and personality roles within most iterations, but the other 3 are usually given characteristics that are emotion-based. Leo, on the other hand, usually is just given the role as Leader and that’s just… his entire personality for a lot of people. I feel like 2k12 Leo was, for me, one of the best (if not the best) portrayals of Leo beyond that leadership role and definitely helped me enjoy his character more and then look back at previous iterations of Leo in a different light.

I’m also quite fond of Leo’s in general because he’s an excellent character for angst (they all are, of course, but there’s something incredibly angsty about Leo that I’ll never be able to perfectly explain)

Although, I’m not exactly fond of his relationship with Karai… I have no idea what the writers were thinking with that one, especially since the likelihood of them sharing Splinter’s DNA is pretty high I think? But she’s a great character too so I do my best to overlook that insanity

Taiya knows Bundorio. He knows that he's kind and can be good, even if he did bad things in the past. Taiya decided to give him a chance and he stands by that decision. Bundorio has shown him time and time again that he wants to help people and take down the Hashiliens. He knows who Bundorio is here and now, it does not matter to him who he was before, just like how it doesn't matter that Ishiro was trying to take Bundorio, and it doesn't matter that Genba is an alien. Taiya cares about who they are as people, and who they will choose to be in the future, he cares about them having control of their lives and how they've chosen to help people.

I think about this issue sometimes because she’s soooo quick on her feet. She’s always ready to jump into action and figure out a situation. It makes sense why people like steve rogers keep wanting her to be a leader type; she’s empathetic, she’s smart, and she’s decisive. she knows how to make those split second decisions and she’s all about putting herself in the line of fire to keep everyone else safe (see also: rogue not caring about herself and so the choice of self sacrifice is an easy one if it means saving her loved ones / innocent people)

i AM fully team “donnie having some beef w leo and/or splinter on raph’s behalf for the bullshit moves” btw

raph and donnie have a lot of fun lil similarities. one is that they are subtle as a bag of sledgehammers, one is that they destruction of property kings, and the big one to this end is that they’re like. the Defense duo. (wouldnt u know... the most traditionally protective ones... w the powers of pixely mystic constructs...). the training, the protectiveness and taking hits, the security systems, the escape pods, the panic buttons, etc, they are very on that wavelength together

and i think to share that wavelength. to watch raph work so hard and so earnestly time after time to help people and keep his family safe and improve teamwork, to watch him doggedly get back up and find out how to do better every time he fumbled, to be the key that unlocked your whole-ass ninpo connection, do such a genuinely GREAT job getting everyone through stuff. 

to have that and then have splinter (who never interfered in team lineup EVER BEFORE? even during the eps where they did missions w him) unceremoniously rug-pull leadership from raph with no initial explanation, then to have leo just fully acting up and pressing raph’s buttons (skipping training for a pizza stack goof-off is one thing obv, but going all lone wolf and causing a mission that would’ve succeeded to fail is another)... like yeah man

donnie’s the brother most likely to call splinter out on a bad call and he was clearly getting annoyed w those leo stunts through the movie (before leo learned his Big Lesson and all). i wholeheartedly believe he’d be salty for raph. go no farther than a protective-of-large-brother donatello, i am sold

one thought before i disappear again but i really fail to understand damian fans' logic or interaction with canon on any level like your entire engagement with him as a character relies on a bastardization of every person around him. i don't see what worth there is in comparing how dick and bruce are comparatively written as parental figures in damian's life when your primary basis for analysis is canon from a writer who believes (1) dick shouldn't be in a relationship with kory bc he's happy-go-lucky and hates drama; and (2) bruce's life as a hero naturally culminates in fascism. neither of these are good faith takes on the characters involved so how can you place any value in how either of them are portrayed to interact with damian by way of that. and obv this doesn't even get into the plethora of talia issues which i have essayed about to the point of exhaustion. like idk i get that i can't make people hate a character obv lol and for many damian fans that attachment is there bc they read about him when they were young but i still don't really understand what there is about damian to be invested in once you're an adult who realizes he is holistically built on character assassination and racist stereotypes that he is inseparable from. like you can't really analyze his interactions with anyone without the context for those interactions being shoddy writing of someone else and i know that can happen in comics a lot but it happening in isolation is different from it forming the entire basis for a character
