Its fine if you see Kanji as straight or use she/her for Naoto. I appreciate how Kanji's storyline is about accepting that its okay to not have masculine hobbies and how queerness and toxic masculinity are linked. I appreciate how rooted in a Japanese subtext Naoto's story is and how your going to have to understand it from a different perspective of a different life. Both of these characters I like and find interesting.

But I swear, if another Youtuber or other says in some variation "Thinking Naoto or Kanji's stories are queer means your MISSING THE POINT OF THE THEMES OF TRUTH IN P4" or that as they are in canon their arcs are perfect and not needing any sort of change and are not at all at least a little dated or problematic" I am going to start screeching.

I'm reading character rankings and Downton Abbey and apparently we are supposed to be annoyed at Branson when he shows up for....being right about class issues? Being a socialist? Annoying the Crawleys by making them think about the ethics of their money? Like seriously what am I missing here?

Multiple articles talk about him like he only became a good guy once he shut up and became one with the Crawley Aristocrat Horde but honestly I found him kind of boring when he didn't have a love interest. And speaking of, when he did have a love interest---the way poor Sarah was talked about jfc. When she showed up I was like "okay great I love her and her finally calling him on losing his socialist principles once the palace doors were opened to him, she's going to bring him back to his morals" but instead she was thrown out and treated like the absolute devil incarnate and all the protagonists joked about how obviously evil she was because as Mrs. Hughes said "heaven forbid we contradict the holy Family."

OVERALL I AGREE but i don’t think it’s right to call gojo ‘arrogant’, and i also think it’s wrong to imply that he views other people as inferior. he messes with ijichi and utahime because ijichi is his bulliable kouhai and utahime is easy to rile up, he canonically trusts ijichi more than most + doesn’t realize utahime hates him 💀💀 obviously he knows when other people are weak but i don’t think he views others as inferior just because of that. even in his teen years he takes a liking to riko, a ‘weakling’ he was tasked to protect. gojo is a people person!!! he’s just rude lmao

as for the arrogant thing . definition-wise it’s plain wrong because being arrogant implies that you have an exaggerated view of your own abilities, and that is Not the case with gojo 😭 he really is just that strong. it’s the same mistake people make when they say he has a god complex — he doesn’t, he never has, he’s just fully aware of how strong he is. gojo is confident, not arrogant. and i don’t think he enjoys being strong very much if i’m being honest, he’s just completely resigned to the role he was given. he enjoys fighting but he’s not that bloodthirsty.

overall though!!!! i agree in the sense that i think people mischaracterize gojo when they veer too far in one direction. he’s not a power-hungry morally gray freak, but he’s also not a saint who acts out of his heart and pities himself. he’s not as gooey and soft as people sometimes make him out to be but tbh i’m infinitely more irked by people who view him as mean or cruel 💀💀 or just ‘godlike’ in general . when you peel back his ‘godly’ strength he’s a fairly normal guy, just EXTREMELY detached from the world

If you know how to do it you can use someone’s phone number to find their full legal name and home address. It’s just a bit of Google and knowing what websites stores this kind of info. Saw your tags asking how a phone number could verify someone’s age

So, I appreciate you dropping into my askbox to pass that info on - genuinely, it's kind of you - and I can see how my tags came across, but what I actually meant wasn't 'how can you find info on someone just with their phone number??' -- I actually do exactly that kind of thing in my day job pretty regularly, and I have to conform to a lot of real strict ethic constraints that uh, bluntly, random discord moderators...do not.

What I was actually getting at is the fact that, assuming the hypothetical server is just using a phone number as age verification (and doing data broker/google search on that), how in the hell is it controlling for someone doing what people under the arbitrary age limit du jour have been doing since we started implementing this sort of check, ie, lying like rugs and supplying info for someone in their family/social circle instead who is older than [whatever age].

like. sure. maybe you get a phone number for age verification. awesome. plug that into your data broker/google/etc of choice, run your searches, and ok, it belongs to jane smith, 38 years old, accountant who lives in ballarat, she's totally fine to join the 18+ server! come on in jane, the smut is plentiful and the doves are extremely dead. Jane smith has a kid. jane smith's kid is 15. jane smith's kid isn't allowed in the server, because it's an 18+ only server.

jane smith's kid almost certainly knows their mum's mobile number.

how the hell can Hypothetical Server Mod control for 15 year old jane smith's kid putting in jane smith's mobile number instead of their own? and also, separately, how the hell is HSM dealing with the many -- many many many -- different privacy laws around the globe?

not just in terms of handling that sort of information on people (and also requesting it in the first place!), but also just. some countries you can get so much fucking info on someone! (the US. I'm talking about the US.)

some you can't. because privacy laws, because the info isn't publicly accessible, because it's not online and is only in hard copy at the local government office, because it's collated but only in a nonenglish language, because it's geolocked-- etc.

also, like. even if the hypothetical phone number brings up someone in the US, and also your hypothetical mod team has decided, y'know, fuck privacy laws, security of information and data ethics can take a long walk off a short pier, we're keeping this server 18+ or dying trying!

data brokers aren't...actually consistently what you would call...super accurate, or like, accurate at all. if you have a unique name, yeah, sure, you're probably kinda fucked! (assuming you're in, again, somewhere the data brokers focus) but like. if you're named something a little more common - say, james smith, or maria sanchez in the US- uh. well. there sure are a lot of people you could be, and some of them - most of them! - are over 18.

and ok, sure, a phone number is (usually) only associated with one person, but. you can get a lot of false positives, false negatives, and straight up 'we don't know 🤪', the latter of which is sometimes hidden by the databrokers going 'our best guess is that this person is: An Age!! somewhere between 0 and 200 years old. 😇'

again, I use this stuff for work, I can tell you exactly how inaccurate it can get as soon as you throw something like 'not based in the US/UK' or 'uses a nickname/multiple name formats' or 'isn't super online' or 'older than 65 and not turbo wealthy' at some of these - I've had more than one confidently tell me that [my wallet name] is an accountant based in darwin who makes horror films in alice springs on the side, and also, is 26, and had 2-3 kids with her husband Lauchlan.

literally none of these facts are true. like. even vaguely.

and that can of worms doesn't even get into if someone has requested to be removed from data broker databases and/or takes online privacy Very Seriously and/or is just fundamentally ungoogleable, which is...more common than you'd think. less common than you'd like, but more common than you think, even before google started enshittifying itself out of existence.

which is why when you're trying to do things like prove your identity to uhhh goverments, banks, etc, they want multiple forms of ID, one of which is usually a photo ID, none of which anyone should be sending to a random on discord, or, frankly, asking for from a random on discord, both bc my god privacy and security risk but also like. handling that information can actually have legal requirements!

Also for people that didn't know me for that much of a long time; I know I semi-consistently make it sound like I was practically "trapped" with some raging bigot and couldn't escape because Abusive Relationship Moment and never elaborate, but I was not. It is a long story but if anything, I knew exactly what I've gotten myself into, and why I did. I saw what he was like and what he was saying, and I chose to jump in. I don't deserve compassion, only pity for being short-sighted and picking a responsibility I was no match for, but there was a guy who triggered a lot of stuff, and we were both victims. Of each other, and of the world.

I often call him 'basically a Morgott' and this is what he was: a person jealously and fanatically guarding a ruined, corrupt system he himself was and is oppressed by. He didn't deserve to experience a single traumatising event that guaranteed that he ended up being like that. At some point certain people came to lynch him for the shit he didn't fucking do, and it was beginning of the end. And when I insisted on being loud and proud about our bond, certain people came to lynch me for the shit I didn't do. I guess despite everything, I've found a lot of romance and value in knowing that he sort of passed his "curse" onto me, although not intentionally. Just like him after he survived witch-hunt, I, too, went to lick my wounds and seethe in the company of very questionable people. I walked back when I saw the bunch that promised me safety was just as rotten, and I sure hope he walked back from his weird bunch too. I had a chance to learn about his life updates, but I didn't.

All this is to say, not he was ever an actual villain of this fucking mess. It were always the witch-hunter people. He would hate me for speaking like this, I guess. Because he is up against "woke NPCs" and meanwhile God will forsaken me for choosing "degeneracy" or whatever... 🙄 Still, I saw enough to know that any group who separates people on worthy or unworthy is inherently bad, regardless of their ideals and goals. None of this shit would've happen if witch-hunters stopped doing their darnest to kick anyone they deem "heretic" out of society in the beyond, where members of other cults can swipe them up and ideologically groom them. People should do their hardest to preserve members of their community regardless of inconveniences of suspicions, and my enemies will always be those who refuse to do it. People like him or me are just symptoms of what you can diagnose humanity with, and the only reason I was able to recover my compassion, faith and willingness to support was because I've found true friends and he struggled with that. I could've been a good friend to him too, but I've failed. I took too many things too personally when they were obviously expressions of insecurity, distrust and past trauma... I should not speak ill of those who act cruel to "bad victims" as much as I do when I didn't practice what I preach when it mattered, though I hope I will become better.

In any case, humans can't exist without humans. Nobody is safe from becoming a hateful bigot if it is only other hateful bigots who give them community after their previous one discarded them. I was ever so close to "everyone is an NPC except for us" mindset and only persisted because genuinely good and innocent people chose to keep pulling me out of bad place over and over and I was always given second chances. I don't hate someone who never got enough help and safety, and I sure don't hate someone for failing to meet their emotional needs. I hate witch-hunters tho, they are the problem. They, and their opposition that always picks up what they've thrown away.
