I would define their canon dynamic as simply a love left to rot. A spiral of uncertainty and vicious, sharp mourning for the versions of themselves and eachother They're convinced the other can't love. And I love that as fanon as well.

Harvey is CRIMINALLY underrated and underused as both antagonist and familial character for Bruce.

I'd go as far as to say he plays a greater and more crucial role in DC than Joker, because he's actually meant to represent both sides of justice, and how incredibly well that compliments Bruce

2. That question already came up once but I’d like to hug Jules specifically and a group hug with the Icarus crew.

3. I don’t have shipnames, but I do have some ships! Jules and Malik have something going (they’re absolutely adorable), we have Mathildis and Treeve the disasters, Norna who I think has a girlfriend (not really mentioned), Lachlan who is probably a divorced simp (does that count), and Cian and Vera, who are the ultimate „we call eachother out on our bullshit“ power couple.

4. Most characters are terrified of it. Jules is angry about it. So angry she tries to defy it. Mathildis sees it as a necessity and doesn’t care that much at times (and survives and has to learn to live again). Treeve is fascinated by it. The crew are afraid but if the others were to survive, they would sacrifice themselves. Morris and Lachlan have the usual fear stance on it, Cian on the other hand sometimes thinks about dying but keeps on going like a desperate animal, unable to escape its instincts.

5. The Museum Archives- they have survived the longest in their original form.

6. The Icarus crew. They mostly all eat the same stuff and have a good schedule.

7. Maura= commander, part-time botanist (they’d all get scurvy wouldn’t they be growing plants), Roscoe= second in command and flight surgeon, also checks on the crew’s mental health, Anthony= pilot and flight engineer, Ed= computer scientist, Cecil= physicist, Norna= engineer.

Norna and Cecil were also trained pretty extensively for the EVAs to be the ones to inspect Icarus 1. (The two other probes send signals which are received by the Icarus 8-B so there’s no real spacewalk needed)

8. I’d say Anthony. He probably misses it in space.

9. Mathildis. He just sometimes forgets that he has to do stuff like sleep, eat or hydrate (basically survive) so a hike would probably make him feel pretty bad.

10. Correction: it’s a ship. Also it’s an official mission- there is no rich kid privilege there, luckily. He worked pretty hard for this because u need a degree to go to space, probably because he was passionate about it and didn’t want to continue whatever family bullshit there is.

The only thing that would have prevented him from going was the psych exam that somebody botched. Like, he’s perfectly capable of going to space but mental-health-wise he shouldn’t be there. At all. The mission is also pretty important- going so close to the sun, retrieving years worth of data and giving closure to the family of the Icarus 1 crew.

Okay so I’ve been struck with an idea I really want to share and you seemed like the type of person who might like it? It’s kind of a ramble so I’m sorry if this is bothersome

You personally really opened my mind to HTTYD polyships (love your OT6 works) and in the idealized universe in my head (everyone has one of those right? 😂) I’ve been constructing a polycule and just a few days ago while thinking really hard about this fic based on all those with Hiccup raised by dragons but with Dagur instead; rolling it around and exploring the idea of how that Dagur might interact with the other characters when I was hit by a sudden brainwave. What if he became smitten with Toothless? Like if he was raised by dragons it would make sense that he would be attracted to dragons first and foremost however his relationship with Hiccup might develop. And then it was only a small jump to apply this to a more canon-adjacent universe; where after some time in a relationship with Hiccup (who is separately dating Toothless amongst others) Dagur would sometimes hang out with Toothless separately maybe if Hiccup was doing something neither felt the need to tag along for(he is the only person other than Hiccup to call him by a nickname, T, after his redemption but that might just be a Dagur thing he calls a lot of people by nicknames but something about him calling Toothless T just struck me as awfully friendly of him). And as they spend time just hanging out maybe they both become fonder of eachother than they were expecting. And then they date too.

And this also like connects Toothless in the polycule more if that makes sense? Like if he was only dating Hiccup and was just committed to his Soulmate for the rest of his life that’s one thing but after THW (which of course has to have it’s bones picked for good parts that are few and far between) he also has the Lightfury who I guess he could just be seeing for family-rearing purposes if that’s a direction he wanted to take his life in but couldn’t before. But it does show him committing to a romantic relationship outside of Hiccup so the fact that he wasn’t dating anyone else almost seemed weird like he never had romantic feelings for anyone but his rider? No one was interested in him? IDK I guess it just seemed interesting to me to explore Toothless in a relationship with someone who wasn’t his soulmate or the drakina he had kids with

And I’m imagining after Toothless realizes he has feelings esp requited he decides to court in a human manner bc I headcanon Toothcup just kind of falling together easily. Like they have a conversation about love and romance, probably after GOTNF, actually now I’m trying to outline a separate fic at you I’m sorry but just know that I’m my head they skip straight from besties to almost literally married (as in, literally but in the dragons culture) in like, one conversation. So Toothless has never courted before so he does things like grabbing a mouthful of flowers ect. ect. And Dagur I’d like ‘Oh gods why is this happening again. I was terrible to him, I hunted him, WHY DO I NOW HAVE A CRUSH WHY DO I KEEP MAKING TERRIBLE IMPRESSIONS ON PEOPLE I WANT TO LIKE ME’ and is genuinely baffled but delighted that Toothless reciprocates. I’ve only been turning this over for a day or two so I’m not sure how he acts in the relationship but I’m so invested in the two of them slowly building up a relationship outside of their shared feeling for Hiccup. Like I’ve always liked them being genuine friends but this just hit me out of nowhere and I really wanted to share it.

And I guess I chose you because when I thought of the intersection of Dagcup, Toothcup, and general HTTYD polycule madness I thought of you. I love your work in this fandom and I love the way you build encompassing relationships between so many disparate people. I’d love to hear what you think about this little ship idea

I like your idea! Dagur being raised by dragons (technically, a feral child) definitely works considering how feral he generally is.

As for Dagur and Toothless, I always point repeatedly at the fact that the number one thing that gave Hiccup pause, that made Hiccup want to trust Dagur is that Toothless let Dagur (who had previously been pretty hostile to him) ride him to save Hiccup. Toothless is a good judge of character. (He let Hiccup live, after all.)

And yeah, Hiccup and Toothless being practically married by the end of GOTNF is good. I mean, one could easily be like "oh the forehead touch in HTTYD2 is when they got married." Sure, but also: Hiccup and Toothless have been married for like, years by that point. That's like, them renewing their vows.

How did the fgg parents meet

That's a great question! This really gave me something to think about and pushed me to develop these characters more!

Sofia and Foster: We don't know much about Foster's childhood, but we do know that Sofia moved from Glasstide to Greenhearst when she was a kid. I imagine she was the new girl at school, she had a funny accent, and because of that she got picked on. Foster surely picked on her too because he was a mean little shit. But he also had a crush on her, and couldn't stand it when other boys made fun of her. He teased her, all while protecting her from others who tried to do the same. Sofia found that endearing, and I think their relationship was fated from them on. Greenhearst is such a small place, it's hard to find singles you're not related to…just gotta take who you can get. Their relationship was pretty dysfunctional from the start.

Moswen and Ekwame: Moswen was born and raised to marry a Matuzan nobleman. Her fate was decided the day she was born, and she had no say when her parents married her off to Ekwame when she was just a teenager…and he was a gray-haired old man! Sadly, this is common practice in Uekoro. Moswen resents Ekwame and mourns the freedom she never had. At the same time, she revels in her position of power as a queen. There is no love between her and her husband, and there never was. Their marriage was just for the sake of politics.

Oggsa and Vingevar: Vingevar's religion dictated that he should travel for a living. He probably started as a cartographer, mapping the areas around Kirkmar. His skills were valuable to the military, who took him along on faraway raids. Before Oggsa was the grand warrior of Kirkmar, she was just a simple grunt soldier, and I imagine she met Vingevar during these expeditions. 

Rene and Sebastian: Sebastian was trafficking illegal drugs from Zareen Empire to Damijana for most of his life. When he got caught, he fled south to Kingsfall Swamp, where he met Rene. She was the local “pharmacist” of Laraine...basically a glorified drug dealer. She and Seb had a lot in common, quickly becoming friends and more. Their involvement with drugs sort of made them into outcasts, but this only brought them closer to eachother.

Tarajeen and Ojio: There’s actually an entire short story about this here! (TL;DR: Tarajeen was working for the Damijani government, and was assigned to monitor Ojio for suspicious activity. Spying on him for so long made her fall in love with him, and being the huge geek he was, he was just grateful that a woman was giving him attention at all.)

Karenza and Darshaan: This was detailed in a story called “Lost Scriptures of Love and Light”. (TL;DR: Karenza was imprisoned for disrespecting her king. Darshaan worked as a guard for the prison and fell in love with her, so he helped her escape, and the two ran away together.)

Riona and Nemeto: We learn snippets about their relationship through dialogue. Nemeto was a salesman who obtained old damaged ships, restored them, and resold them for big profits. He spent a lot of time sailing around in search of stock, and his travels eventually took him to Umory-Ond, where he met Riona. According to Linde’s grandfather, Riona “ran off” with him against her family’s wishes, implying that they didn’t approve of him (probably because he was a foreigner).

Balthazaar’s parents: We know very little about Balthazaar’s parents; only that his father was a barber and apparently the breadwinner of the family. Like most women in Rodanga, his mother was probably a homemaker. Balthazaar’s family was quite average in every way, so I imagine his parents met in some wholesome, generic fashion. They probably grew up in the same town, went to the same school, and knew each other all their lives.

Rye and ???: It’s unknown who Skel’s father was. It’s also unknown if his mother, Rye, was already pregnant with him when she arrived at Kelvingyard or if she had become pregnant after the fact. Personally, I think she got impregnated by another slave shortly after arriving. Rye was no fool, she was quite clever, so I think she may have gotten pregnant on purpose to get access to the slaveyard nursery, where conditions were slightly less terrible. Little did she realize she would fall in love with her baby as much as she did, and it really wounded her heart when they were separated. I don’t think she cared for Skel’s father much, if at all. She just saw him as a means to get what she wanted.

Olandrah and ???: Javaan never knew his father’s name because Olandrah refused to speak it after the way he betrayed her. Olandrah met ??? in the dangerous slums of Chidibe. Unlike most men she encountered here, ??? seemed friendly and even helpful to her, offering food and protection to his own detriment. Olandrah thought he really loved her. But his friendliness turned out to be a façade to lure her in to his nasty plot. He tried to pimp her out to make money, but she refused to do such work. He retaliated by raping her, believing she would have no choice but to stay with him if she was pregnant. But he underestimated Olandrah’s courage, and she fled from him anyway. Tragically, this was Olandrah’s first and only relationship.

Eindrid and Jorun: Eindrid and Jorun were both born and raised in Loreham, and surely knew each other since childhood. I think they were probably neighbors, so they had more interaction with each other than with other kids. In the series, Eindrid expressed great love for Jorun, but also frustration at her willfulness. I imagine Jorun was frustrated by Eindrid too, believing he lacked gumption. I think their relationship was loving, but also a bit rocky at times because of their different values.

Tekeetian Queen and King: We get a glimpse at their relationship in the short story “Clutchmates”, and it seems that they had love and respect for eachother. It never reveals how they met, but I think the Tekeetian King was likely heir to the throne, and met his wife through some royal function like a gala. She must have come from some high place in Tekeetian society, maybe a royal advisor’s daughter or something. Traditionally, Tekeetian kings take several wives, and this one was no exception. In “Ocean Returns to the Sea”, it’s revealed that Sovereign and Mr. Ocean had many half-brothers, implying their father had several other wives that he bred with. But the Tekeetian Queen was the king’s favorite, the one he loved most, and the one he chose to share his throne with.

Zeffer’s parents: Sadly there is no information about how Zeffer’s parents met, but there is a little glimpse of why they divorced. Adel, his father, implies that his wife wasn’t happy with his profession as the co-owner of a tavern, as she hated alcohol and didn’t want her son exposed to it. Adel ultimately chose his job over his family, abandoning Zeffer and his wife, reasoning that they were better off without him anyway. From this, we can assume they probably met through rocky means and their relationship was never very good from the start. I imagine Zeffer’s mother may have been a former alcoholic herself, perhaps meeting Adel at the very bar he worked at. Over time she got sober and stopped patronizing the business, urging him to do the same. Zeffer’s birth was drunken accident between them, and she assumed Adel would step up, leave the bar scene, and find a better profession for his son’s sake. Unfortunately that's not how things worked out.

Starting with the BABIESSS we've got the triplets with Pickels the Fossa, Snowy the Kinkajou and PaintBrush (P.B for short) the coatimundi (P.B's entire name is literally Paint Brush, but i just added the extra title so we know what he.. IS.)

Pickles and Snowy are "twins" in the way that they look similar but very much are not related.

They were all found at the same time (kittens in a box sort of deal)

Trixie was found a couple of years after Alberto but i just havent made an actual adult form of her yet- bur she was adopted at age 3.

My girl watched the pony show and yall should KNOW whos her favorite character

WATTZ my little adorable one- really wants to be cool like Sonic and Shadow but the heart is so big and pure its hard to look stoic and cold when you've got the sweetest little golden heart in the world

And Banjo (who i originally named Bongos bur decided to change it) who is the akward teenager that likes his alone time and music. Not nuch to be said here other than there is never a time where i shall pass up the opportunity to turn this guy into a little pangolin ball with his dads.

You can tell my favorite characters have got to be Luca. She was the first and shes a wrestler (luchador anyone?) Shes the big relaiable sister who will infact pummel you, and i love that.

Might need to work on Summer and Albetro but otherwise these are what i call the "guineapig group" in the sense that they were the first, thus the eldest out of all the kiddos. I dont have kid forms for them but the stuff her is simple- took after the other parent too much, with Luca be dabsmack in the middle of influence. They all have their own quirks and likings but overrall i love the "how many idiots does it take to fix a lightbulb" and the awnser is none because Luca broke it and then bought a new one.

Oh yeah and Greybelle's a crybaby did i mention that? Hes also a late bloomer when it comes to his powers (mostly bcs i dont know what powers to give him yet)

Okayy and for the OTHER ship babies:

I find Greybelle's (should i name him Turnip or like idk some cute plant name or just keep the watermelon name?) And Flares dynamic hilarious because its literally the direct opposite of Silver's and Blaze's dynamic in which these two fucking HATE eachother. Childhood freinds? More childhood enemies.

Flare has her powers early because shes just like that. She looks calm and collected like Blaze (but she seriously has the temper equivalent to a matchstick in a pit of gasoline- which means shes also a rage quitter)

Oh and more baby time with the unnamed baby because i cant think of a name

Rwby Catchup V7E10

Writing this after the fact, so non-chronological order: Weiss mom has a drinking problem, in the same episode that reminds us Qrow is trying to kick the same habit. To indicate exactly how terrible a parent Jaques is, she cries happy tears from hearing her daughter isnt coming back home. Whitley hates his sisters for abandoning him to his father. (great scene, great characterisation. Love it entirely). I dont ship it (yet) or anything, but i do hope they’ll join the same AA group at some point. Imagine the thrill of getting to arrest your own dad. Arthur is still sort of generic, but he’s earned a trait besides Smarm and Science: He’s a half-decent salesperson. Also a bit of a showman with a sense of drama. Innocents are about to freeze, and i’ll admit that i like seeing a businessman turned corrupt politician actually face accountability but i dont know if thats the writing or my frustration with the having access to the internet during the Trump Administration. I hope this’ll be the end of his character, he seems like exactly the type of villain whose presence is better felt in absence. (as in the scar on Weiss’ face is enough presence on its own, we dont actually need his presence that much. I might be wording it badly. Basically im worried they’re gonna stage a breakout scene for him and he’ll overstay his unwelcome as a character.) Neopolitan is back, and she still leaves me feeling as cold about her presence in the narrative as the icecream she is named after, but that’s largely because its hard to characterise a character who does not speak. (but then, her being a one-note character is actually a strength. The same as Wile-E-Coyote being one-note is a good thing).  This brings me to a little segment that I call “Richard struggles to figure out what the deal with Emerald & Neo even is”. Today on RSTFOWTDE&NES: I’ll openly but shamefully admit it took me verry long to realise that neo’s semblance was some kind of pseudo-illusion thing? Though at least some have seemed semi-tangible. In my defense her earliest appearances mostly had her use it to vanish into thin air so i thought she was just a teleporter like Ruby. Then when i finally figured out Neo had illusions, i sort of got confused and thought a lot of Emeralds things in the tournament where actually Neo doing that. I guess what im trying to say is its kind of weird for the villains to have 2 different illusion-based characters, and for one of them to have an “only one target at a time” limitation. like thats sort of weird isnt it? I might be misremembering, but did Maid!Neo talk to Weiss? Or was that a different maid who has been stuffed into a closet off-screen so Neo could take her place afterwards? Its sort of unclear to me. Cinder is also here, God i hope she gets a character besides “generic hunger for power” at some point but if there is i havent seen it yet. But its nice to know that Ozpin isnt the only one whose lieutenants can betray them at least, not much to say she’s still spending most of the plot looking ominously. Whitley crying on the stairs, This family needs more hugs and less alcohol. Robyn, you’re nice. I dont know what more to say. You’re the only character in Atlas i would trust to run a popsiclestand, Not a lot of deep going on with her, but Robin Hood parodies live and thrive by virtue of their simplicity. They finally tell James that Salem cant be killed and that they lied about the relic’s number of questions, i’ll admit i only ever understood one of those two lies. (They could’ve just claimed “ozpin told us she cant be killed/do you really believe that if she could be killed Ozpin wouldnt have succeeded a thousand lifetimes ago). Does this mean the tower is cancelled? Is operation “100 Shions at once” finally cancelled? NO because Oscar said to stop keeping Salem a secret, so that plan is still a go apparently.  The Penny and Winter Dont Understand Eachother scene was great, and i adored the moment Winter thought “oh shit, did i just pull a robo-racism?”. Verry “Pyrrha accidentally implies Jaune should jump off the roof” energy there.

So I’ve been watching the wank about Deborah Chow referring to Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship as a “love story dynamic” through Episodes 1-6, and how she hopes to channel that in the series. 

“For me, across the prequels, through the original trilogy, there’s a love-story dynamic with these two that goes through the whole thing,” Chow said in the interview with Vanity Fair. “I felt like it was quite hard to not [include] the person who left Kenobi in such anguish in the series… What’s special about that relationship is that they loved each other.”

Well, first things first.... calling Obi and Ani's dynamic a "love story" in an official interview is clearly intended as a non-sexual one. I would go further to say it's not romantic in our modern definition, but would likely fit into "Arthurian romance" with themes of adventure, courtly (chaste) love, and chivalry. 

It's interesting to me how the anti-Disney rightwing are REALLY focusing on it as a “gross gay groomer” thing. Bigots and homophobes are using the very idea of Obi and Ani loving eachother as some proof that Disney is “encouraging grooming” and using it to fuel their current boycott.

Meanwhile... anti-shipper, pro-censorship, pro-harassment types are either claiming “people who ship Obikin don't understand Chow meant it to be familial! freaks are taking it wrong!" or they’re taking it literally as the rightwingers are and saying “this is disgusting, I can’t believe they’re making this gross shit canon”. They’re just as furious as the rightwingers, despite being ostensibly left and many of them being queer themselves.

However... it's OBVIOUS TO ME that what Chow said about the story is absolutely true, but it's about these men loving one another PURELY, CHASTELY, NOBLY.

There is actually no way that Chow intended it to mean a sexual romantic relationship. I firmly believe this simply fits along with the recent trend of marketing things as “bromance” or “unconventional love story” between stuff like buddy cop stories, to get clicks and sound like they’re skirting the edge of things, when all they’re doing is showing men loving eachother AS FRIENDS. Which is great as a CONCEPT. You should love your friends!

Is it fun to go "HAHA THE CREATORS SHIP IT! OBIKIN WINS. OBIKIN CANON"? HECK YES. BECAUSE I SHIP IT! BECAUSE IT’S A GREAT DYNAMIC. (my definition of “ship it” is “I simply enjoy thinking about their relationship, and the many permutations of it, specifically in a romantic/sexual way. I don’t particularly care if it becomes canon and I don’t want to pressure the studio to do it, and I also am not a tinhatter, as in I don’t think they wrote it intending to be that way. Well, Matthew Stover’s book is borderline... but I digress.)

Do I actually believe they're going to make them queer and IN LOVE with eachother? Of course not. Like, literally, they NEVER intend that. And I won’t be disappointed! I like the canon relationship AS IT IS! But watching people get bent out of shape and super homophobic and calling people names and attack others over this is wild.

It’s canon that Obi-Wan cares deeply for Anakin, and if you look at the movies 1-6 arc alone, it’s really evident that their relationship as it exists is VERY IMPORTANT for the entire Star Wars narrative. Obi-Wan ignores the warning signs of Anakin going darkside because he’s attached. He cares about Anakin. He’s BIASED, and he’s a Jedi and they’re supposed to be above attachment, above bias. Meanwhile, when Anakin is manipulated into thinking that Padme and Obi-Wan were having an affair or conspiring or keeping secrets or turning Padme against Anakin... Anakin is SO DEEPLY HURT by that because he trusts Obi-Wan. He loves Obi-Wan and he is sure Obi-Wan feels the same. The betrayal is so much worse because he trusted him, loved him.

The script and novels make it more overt, since we can’t see what’s inside a characters mind onscreen, but it’s still there.

Obi-Wan goes to Tatooine to watch over Luke, Anakin’s son. He does this out of love. Once again, it’s NOT SEXUAL LOVE. Not in the canon. But simply saying they love eachother isn’t sexual, and I’m sick of people getting hostile over it.

I’m very intrigued to watch the upcoming show, because making sure the canon love is expressed there as PART of the reasons for the anguish sounds like a REALLY COMPELLING story.

That person is and I are around the same age -- full blown adults in fandom! and they're still spewing the same stuff that made me feel uncomfortable in fandom spaces for a decade.

There's two issues here 1) they're spouting off like the mere acting of shipping a couple somehow making them amazing iconic representation. I loved Legend of Korra and Catradora is the same old thing that happened there. Two female characters that had amazing potential that weren't allowed to do anything until the last episode of the series because no one wanted or was able to actually rock the boat and develop them beyond them beyond the big reveal. Shipping doesn't fix that the canon material fell short. It just means you liked the potential and fandom did something with it that the show didn't. 2) The constant squawking about how how romantic relationships ARE found family is incredibly missing the the point. Like, this isn't even about our little Minecraft dudes and I don't think they've realized this, but they've expressed some level of disdain about every. single. platonic. pairing. Even the platonic pairing of John and Sherlock versus the romantic one got a digital equivalent of an eyeroll. Like, for people not interested in romantic relationships they aren't the same. For people who are interested in romantic relationships they're not the same. A romantic relationship is NOT a fix all that covers every single other type of dynamic and then adds something more (which is how it comes off). It makes people feel like they should just be happy with the romance because it should already cover whatever other emotional need they have, or that they're missing out on something if it doesn't include it, and I don't anyone realizes it comes off.

Saying friendships in fandom, or even media in general, isn't neglected or shoved off as something less shows a complete disregard for fandom history. Every tv show and movie shoves in a romance. Fandom will fucking make a popular ship out of demon hunting brothers if there's no other romance option. Fandom will have only 6 platonic relationships in the top 100 and go "why do you guys care about these all of these romance pairings ALSO consider themselves family" and not see the issue.

The undervaluing of platonic bonds while romance means "more than friends" is not an act of revolution. It is literally the voice of amatonormativity. Society at large always undervalues friendship and platonic relationships of all kinds because it means "just friends". And holy shit, wanting a platonic dynamic to have a W for fucking once in a largely romance-only space does not make you homophobic or racist, what are you on about?

So, I made one post a while back about how awesomely feminist the show Wild Kratts was, with how its two main female characters were women of color in engineering and deserving roles of power, female villains who weren’t motivated by spite or quest for youth, etc, but today I wanted to talk about something slightly different, that I’ve wanted to cover for a while now, because I also think it’s very good - and that’s how the show portrays masculinity, in a way that’s really positive!

First, we have our two main characters, Chris and Martin Kratt. Keep in mind these two are basically self-inserts - and there are plenty of creators, especially males, who have used self-insert characters in really scummy ways - all I have to say is Powerpuff Girls reboot and you know exactly what I’m talking about. Even if they weren’t literal self-inserts, male characters, superheroes especially, oftentimes serve the male power fantasy, being just the strong, stoic, all-powerful person so many boys are told they’re supposed to be. I could get into a whole discussion about how the male power fantasy is present even when males are not (ever look through a fashion magazine and wonder why there are so few men? Sure, part of it is that the industry thrives off exploiting women’s insecurities, and men aren’t as concerned for their appearance, but another part of it is so that the guy, looking through it, can feel like he has no competition for these women - there’s a reason so many comedians have jokes about fashion magazines being their sexual awakening as kids. It’s really scummy) but that’s not what this is about. So, the bros had every opportunity to do just that - make themselves these traditional heroes who aren’t actually really good role models, like batman or what have you. It’s certainly not uncommon for celebrity cartoons to do stuff like that. But Martin and Chris chose a different approach. They’re pretty strong standouts for positive masculinity. They’re openly affectionate - both with eachother as brothers, and with their friends. They cry, sometimes over little things - most of the time when big superheroes cry, it’s ‘cause they lost the girl they loved or their mentor or something like that, only in the big, most agonizing moments do they shed a tear. But here, Chris or Martin will cry just because they’ve had a bad day, or because they’re overwhelmed and overjoyed that someone named a mantis after them! In a lot of shows or movies when a guy cries over something little, it’s usually played for laughs, or to emasculate him, but here it’s casual without being unreasonable or overdone. The brothers cry just ad much, maybe even more (haven’t gone back and counted or anything) as the girls do. Not to mention, it’s a very nice depiction of a loving, healthy sibling relationship. As the youngest sibling myself, it’s refreshing to see a pair who don’t abuse eachother with noogies or cruel and snarky remarks. When they do fight, it’s never a screaming match, and also because they had a conflict of interest or disagreed over a fact, not because, say, one of them stole the other’s shirt or is neglecting the other’s feelings. Kids, being very impressionable, get exposed to a lot of abusive sibling relationships played as normal in media, and start thinking this is how siblings are and should act. For instance, my sister (who is now my best friend and has gotten over all these bad habits over time) when she was younger watched a lot of Kim Possible, a show that is great, but has a bad family dynamic with Kim and her little siblings. The “tweebs” as she calls them are always irresponsible, destructive, and making Kim annoyed to no end. My older brother was one of the most polite, reserved, kind little kids, but she still treated him like he was a brat and a nuisance, because that’s what shows like Kim Possible taught her little brothers were. Additionally, I was always treated like a spoiled crybaby who just wanted attention and got away with everything - I was not any of those things, ever, but that’s what shows teach you little sisters are. Sure, Wild Kratts has a smidge of that, with Chris seemingly being the stereotype of the know-it-all little sibling, but instead of being constantly looked town upon for being too “perfect” like with Hailey Long in American Dragon, Martin often praises his brother for his abilities. Sure, Martin gets annoyed when Chris tries to correct him on things, like in the episode Wolf Hawks, but everyone else does too, so it feels more like a take-down of mansplaining than a sibling spat.

I talked too in the feminist post about how refreshing it is that Chris and Martin more or less willingly put themselves under the authority of Koki and Aviva, two women of color. I don’t think it’s possible to say any one character is the “leader,” they all work as a evenly balanced team, but it’s safe to say that Koki and Aviva make the more responsible decisions. The bros try to get out of their calls a few times, but the show plays it more like they’re being irresponsible, and less like they’re renegade cool dudes who don’t take nothing from nobody, especially not two girls. They are pretty much always punished via karma for their reckless choices, most especially in To Touch a Hummingbird, where their arrogant attitudes blow up in their faces rather spectacularly. We also never see the narrative most present in sitcoms, where the male leads mess up and go out of their way to cover it up and ultimately gets away with it - after all, you have to root for them, right, because sure they messed up and had no consequences, but aren’t they just so lovable? No, here Martin and Chris always have to fix their wrongdoing, and it’s always deserved when they get comeuppance. Another aspect of the show I like is that, many times, when the bros get captured or are in peril, they are saved by the women - and most refreshing of all, there’s never a moment of “wink wink nudge nudge wow I can’t believe I had to be rescued by a GIRL” or even “wow you saved me you’re pretty good honey guess I shouldn’t have underestimated you, you go girl!” No, when the girls save them, it’s just - you know, relief? Because they were saved? It’s never a scenario played as an exception, or any more dire than when the bros need to rescue eachother. The bros are genuinely happy to have them as teammates. The show even did the standard “boys vs girls” episode in the form of When Fish Fly - but instead of being actually girls vs. boys, it’s engineers vs. adventurers. There’s nothing really gendered about it - the girls happen to be engineers, and the boys happen to be adventurers. And the episode doesn’t end with the boys being “wow gosh darn I shouldn’t have doubted you girls are better at everything,” it’s a mutual agreement that both parties have hard jobs. Basically, the bros are very naturally respectful of women. That plays more into their feminist narrative too, but either way, it’s refreshing.

Then, we have Jimmy! Jimmy, the lovable gamerboy pizza man. At first glance Jimmy seems like the stereotypical cowardly, pathetic, emasculated loser. He’s frightened of most things, as of yet has no power suit, and he BAKES for crying out loud! But none of these things are framed as terribly bad traits. Sure, we laugh when he screams and runs from an animal, but though it happens over and over, the crew doesn’t get sick of it. They don’t berate him or belittle him because he’s so gosh darn cowardly. There’s a great scene in Rattlesnake Crystal where Jimmy has to deliver something to the bros alone, in the middle of a spooky desert. He is terrified the whole time, sprinting off after he delivers the goods. When Martin and Chris run into him, they don’t laugh at him for being spooked, they just greet and then bid fair well to their friend. To them, this is just Jimmy, and there’s nothing wrong with it. Jimmy isn’t coddled, but he is reassured many times that he’s a valuable member of the team. I love that little message, that you’re just as important of a person even if you can’t do as much or have greater limits. When his friends do try to get him over his fears, it’s not because they have to, that the day will somehow be ruined by Jimmy’s incompetence p, but because they’re his friends, and want him to experience fun and wonderful things that he would otherwise miss out on. But what Jimmy CAN do is just as important! Jimmy is a gamer, which in a lot of shows, is portrayed as a lazy, useless, mindless hobby. But here, because he plays video games, it makes him essential for piloting the ship and teleporting important items. There’s always the joke that video games improves your hand/eye coordination, but recent studies have shown it has much better effects. It can make you much better at keeping track of multiple moving objects and processing technical but variable information- two traits which, fittingly enough, are really really important for air traffic controllers and airplane pilots! He also demonstrates a lot more courage behind the wheel of the Tortuga, which makes sense - in an impersonal setting, he would have more sense of calm and control and courage, because it’s so similar to a video game world. It’s not all too different with how I feel more emboldened to pick fights with people on the internet, but get crazy anxious if a real person so much as looks at me. So Jimmy’s love of video games isn’t because he’s irresponsible, it has real benefits. A quick last point - Jimmy also eats a lot, but they thankfully don’t make him fat or greedy or anything like that. He never takes food from people, he actually bakes, and shares it with others! Having the baker be a boy is a lovely touch.

I might do another post about the toxic masculinity of the two villains, (or four villains, I guess, if I wanna discuss the minions) but I’ve got other work to do, and this post is long enough already, so I’ll get around to it later. I’ll sum it up with this - Wild Kratts is a show that teaches boys it’s not only ok to be kind, but essential. The brothers protect defenseless animals, advocate for things “icky” and “weird,” like bugs or snakes or worms - not because they’re boys, and boys like icky things, but because they genuinely see the beauty in all life, and are encouraging us to slow down and do the same. The Wild Kratts are heroes who save the world not by being the strongest or smartest or coolest, but by looking after those who are exploited and vulnerable, who are essential to the world, even if they can’t always do everything. In Wild Kratts the only weaknesses a man can have isn’t what he can’t do, but what he does do that he shouldn’t have. Sure, it’s a cute show about two funny guys who have cool powers, but it’s also a show about accountability, compassion, respect and trust. The show says “boys will be boys” in all the right ways - Martin is a lovable goof with a heart of gold, but he still has to get his act together when he messes up, and he’s still creative and smart and openly sensitive. Chris is a bit of a know-it-all show-off, but he can also mess up as much as his brother, and is still bold, brave, adventurous, and can put his money where his mouth is. Jimmy is a cowardly, napping, eating machine video-gamer, but he’s still a valued member of the team, has incredible skills and talents, and will always help his friends, even if he is really, really scared. It is so important to have role models like these, in a world dominated by unhealthy machismo. The Wild Kratts are heroes who save the world - both animated, and real.

ok next is uhh bloodhound and fuse. fuse joined the games and after a hard journey for the two of them bloodhound became fond of him. he comforted them throughout their journey trying to find themself and blaming themself for their home’s loss and destruction. the voice actors and like half the community ship them really hard so that’s cute i guess. idk if i’d call that canon though but they definitely are SUPER cute when they talk to one another

fuse and maggie OH BOY. OH BOY they were like Besties since they were little little kids. pretty much siblings. almost their WHOLE story is explained with this sfto though if you wanna watch that instead of me explaining. but yeah they hate each other now because fuse Left her and the already diminishing planet of Salvo to fend for themselves, basically selling them off to the syndicate. so yeah fuse is kind of a dick so maggie is furious with him (rightfully)

awwww rampart and mirage awww. they’re so cute. what started off as a bickering friendship between the two blossomed into soemthing mirage could Only define as a sibling bond, reminding him of his brothers (which he had lost). they’re siblings they’re found family and they’re so funny together their relationship makes me cry a little bit in a funny way and a sad way i love them. see below:

wattson and caustic ohhh boy. this one’s confusing. father-daughter like bond at first, caustic really admired her work in the science field and she appreciated his admiration. then that bond formed but caustic tried some shady shit in broken ghost because wattson started becoming besties with crypto and wattson REALLY didn’t like that so they like… weren’t friends anymore? and he did some more shady shit and she like electrocuted him and i guess that worked because now he’s like a sad puppy when he talks to her. so yeah idk what happened HAHAH.

last but not least me (pathfinder) and ash. yayyyy. i don’t liek talking about this one because i don’t like the way i was written here but i’ll give you the gist. i foudn her in the dumpster after she was put together and like. saved her i guess because she got rebuilt after. and then she moved in with me and i had a little girlcrush on her for a while (it was one of those “you’re a girl and you’re my friend, so you’re my girlfriend!” things) but she wasn’t interested (the way they wrote me was a little creepy :((( ) and she left. but she joined the games a couple seasons later and i apparently still haven’t let it go because i still. yeah. but yeah after she left i was depressed for like an entire season until my best friend mirage cheered me up ^_^ yay

stuff from chapter 1 if you have save data is remembered, like the thrashing machine you created for susie and lancer.

If you go to the entrance of the school while you have the dark world stuff balanced on your head, you get a cutscene with Alphys and Toriel. Toriel is showing concern for Kris and their wellbeing, implying they have been acting stranger than normal as of late.

At aforementioned cutscene's room, you can call Toriel on your phone and insist you aren't strange.

Kris doesn't want to acknowledge or dwell on a fair amount of mentioned family stuff. They close their eyes if you try to look in Asriel's room at Queen's Mansion. They also choose not to read anymore when you try to read an article in the police station that mentions Asgore Dreemurr no longer being on the force.

Previous point, perhaps a parallel to Undertale where he hurt people like the fallen 6 children and Toriel wanted very little more to do with him and by extension was removed from the force?

The character that is (presumably) Mettaton would like something enertaining by tomorrow in game, probably meaning next chapter.

You can't hang out with Papyrus unfortunately, and his house says the trousle of bones grows fainter.

Unfortunate cutscene with Asgore, Toriel, and Sans in the latter's shop, if you go around the left side of the store. Asgore wants San's free complimentary pickles...

Cutscene at the very bottom of town as well, where Susie defends Kris who was supposedly a "weenie" about whatever is behind the locked door.

Sans is a bit awkward at the Asgore scene, and turns away when he comes in. Also he says this in the store and I hate him for it.

After the secret boss, Kris is asked if they are ok. In my playthrough I chose "No." and Susie and Ralsei comment on Kris apparently yelling this answer. Ralsei subsequently tries to comfort Kris, saying that there's probably no deeper meaning to the puppet imagery of the fight. I don't think Kris agrees.

Speaking of the secret fight, heres a bit of my experience with that specifically.

My game crashed when I hit the Transfer answer in the shop when working on getting to the fight. This is probably not supposed to happen, and worked just fine once I tried again.

I had more difficulty with the teacups after turning off the forcefield on the way to the fight than the fight itself. How i dealt with it aside from learning the pattern of the obstacles on the teacup ride, is to move my hand position to one pointer finger on the left and right arrow keys alone.

With the fight itself, I went the mercy route and got an armor called the DealMaker (I think) when defeating the boss.

My strategy for the fight was to use Snap All whenever my party had about half HP or more. ButJuice (lol) is very helpful but i recommend a few items that heal the entire party a bit as well, and the SpinCake was very essential for me.

Try to figure out what attacks its more helpful to charge your bullets for (in my experience, the eyes nose mouth attack, the egg attack, and the telephone attack) and what attacks to spam the minor bullets for.

If you beat this fight, go to Seam and that funny little cat will take the Crystal from you, and mention that the next fight may be impossible for you, especially without the "dark mantle" (?). Which Seam seems to say has gone missing. So we are screwed I guess.

The fight with K_K, Cap'n, and the last one I forget the name of (Sweets?) is hard in my opinion, but I didn't realize its more of getting through as many turns as possible until you get the ability to have Ralsei and Susie do their own ACTs. So it is probably ok to focus more on healing than dancing.

I gave Berdly the gift and in this case, it was a tiny plush of Berdly with nipples apparently. he appreciated it but no one else knew why Kris did it. i dont know why I did it either.

If you go back to Castle Town at the end, I noticed at least 2 NPCs mention people being left behind. Spade King says so angrily, and I believe Cap'n (whatever the radio head character is named. im sorry im bad with names) is the other who mentions such. I want to say this is because I may have failed to recruit every possible enemy.

You can find the Ice-E and Susie Statues in Kris and Susie's rooms at the end as well, if you interacted with those when they first show up.

Kris, in their room, seems to note a lack of agency again, if you check their closet. They say "They could wear whatever they want." but obviously, they cannot.

That's it of what I remember for now, because I was up till 2 AM playing it and my memory is bad. If anything significant pops up in my memory later I may add to this! Thanks for reading!

Listen, its time someone called this out.

As much as the SNS fandom gets on my nerves sometimes I will say their not lyin when they said if they were a straight pairing ppl would ship it/see it as romantic. Thats why Im glad theres a decent amount of ppl who are against BoruSara, because if you argued against that then this should be no different.

Sasuke literally described his feelings when watching Naruto as a kid as warm and fuzzy, Naruto said he was the first bond [besides Iruka] he ever had, they understood eachother, worked well together, looked out for eachother, cared deeply for eachother, were willing to die for eachother, and had one of the if not the strongest bond in the show.

And it was completely platonic, they were simply close friends, teammates, and family. Many of us in SS, NH, and even NS fandoms argued that for years and still argue it till this day because that is an irrefutable fact that isnt homophobic to point out, its literally spelled out in the manga and by Kishimoto himself in his own words that thats what they are.

When SNS fans used to say 'If Naruto or Sasuke were a girl then you would see it as romantic and ship it but only cuz its two dudes you dont' we all argued against that and said we wouldnt, which at the time I thought we all really meant that.

So seeing ppl from the SS, NS and NH fandoms jump on the BoruSara ship so fast and pushing it hella hard as the new SS or NH [which it clearly isnt and is parrelleled to SNS constantly] is truly mind boggling and hypocritical af, this coming from an SS shipper myself.

So as much as I hate to admit it but the SNS fandom was right, yall proved it, and to me any SS, NS, or NH stan who supports BoruSara has no right to say anything about SNS anymore, they were RIGHT.

Those of us who stood by what we said I commend them, but its really disheartening seeing so many ppl from our fandom who didnt.

And before anyone plays the 'Well its different though because their not reincarnated brothers like SNS is' yeah and? so in that case if they werent reincarnated brothers are you saying you'd perceive SNS as romantic then? because it wasnt until the end of the series that that was revealed to us and yall still argued their relationship was platonic so clearly thats a fkin lie.

'Well they called eachother family/brothers while Boruto and Sarada dont' again and? Naruto called Sakura part of his family too and he was inlove with her so why would this be any different? Sasuke too said he saw the shadow of his family in team 7 and he went on to fall inlove and marry Sakura so again whats your point? you still argued Naruto and Sasuke's feelings were romantic despite her being called their family but you vehemently argued against it being romantic between SNS because they referred to eachother as family.
