“This is so fuckin’ boring,” JJ complained for the sixth time in the last hour. John B needed a perfect gift for Sarah’s upcoming birthday, and apparently that meant JJ had to spend his Saturday afternoon in the mall. The only person he’d go to the mall with without complaining was you.

“Just shut up. I told you I’d buy you churros,” John B sighed, looking through the array of necklaces that the girl behind the counter had gotten out for him. The majority were out of his price range, but it was still nice to get ideas for the future.

As JJ leant against the wall, subtly hitting his vape under his sleeve, he felt his mind go to you. He’d texted a few times, asked if you wanted to come over before he knew he’d be stuck with John B, but you’d said you were busy. He assumed that meant hanging out with the few Kook girls you actually liked. He was halfway through thinking about if he should buy you something when he looked up and out the shop window, his eyes landing on a sight he never wanted to see.

You sat on a bench, a boy next to you showing you something on his phone. You were giggling, swatting at his arm as the two of you shared some fries. JJ’s face fell, his stomach dropped and he suddenly had an urge to throw up. Sure, you weren’t his girlfriend, but it was a known fact that you liked each other. It was just a waiting game at the moment, him trying to plan how to gain the confidence to pop the question, but maybe he’d left it too long. Maybe you’d thought about it and realised you didn’t really like him. He was a Pogue, that was all he’d ever be.

“I’m leaving,” JJ announced, catching John B’s attention who turned to him in confusion. He looked past JJ, seeing the same thing the blonde was staring intently at.

“Shit, Jay,” John B muttered, placing his arm on his friend’s shoulder. “Maybe it’s not what it looks like. They’re just talking.”

“Fuck that,” JJ scoffed. “I’m not a mug. If she doesn’t want me, fine, but I’m not lettin’ myself be played by a Kook.”

“Hey. Don’t talk about her like she doesn’t mean shit to you when we both know she does. Let her explain, alright? Don’t blow your shit and ruin this, okay? You’ll regret it,” John B warned.

Thankfully, John B picked out a necklace and the two of them were back at the Chateau within the hour. JJ sulked in his room, smoking a joint and thinking about the way that boy had you giggling. You’re not the kind of girl to lead someone on, he knows that, that’s why he’s so confused. If you were seeing someone you would have told him… right?

It was half seven when his phone pinged, your contact showing up on the screen with a text. ‘come over for a movie night? my parents aren’t here <333’. What was this? The other dude gets you for lunch and he gets you for dinner? How is that fair? He wanted to ignore you, but the little hearts you’d added to the message had him softening. Before he knew it, he was on his bike heading over to your place.

You opened the door within seconds, little pyjamas on with a sweet smile playing on your lips. You squealed, happy to see him as you threw your arms around him like it had been weeks since you last saw each other. As hurt as he was, he couldn’t help but hug you back — inhaling the scent of your vanilla shampoo.

“Missed you,” you murmured, smiling up at him like you hadn’t been with another man all day.

“Yeah, uh, missed you too,” he muttered. Your face scrunched up in confusion, he was normally a lot more reciprocate of your excitement.

Your hand wrapped around his arm, pulling him inside your house. You lead him into the living room and he froze. The boy was sat on your couch, scrolling on his phone. What was he doing here? Had you invited JJ over just to break the news that you just wanted to be friends? He’d try, sure, but he wasn’t sure he could go back to being just friends.

“Oh! Jay, this is Daniel. Daniel, this is JJ,” you introduced, a smile on your face as you looked between them.

“Ah, this is JJ,” Daniel smirked, a teasing tone to his voice that had your cheeks heating up.

“Yeah, yeah. Can you go upstairs? We’re having movie night,” you explained. “I mean… you can stay, I guess. But you won’t want to, we’re watching rom-coms and you hate—”

“I can take a hint,” he interrupted with a chuckle, getting up from the couch. He gave JJ a warm smile and ruffled your hair as he passed. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” He called as he disappeared up the stairs.

“What is he doing here?” JJ didn’t mean to sound so aggressive, but he couldn’t help it. Why were you acting like this was completely normal?

“Hm?” You hummed, turning to look at him worriedly. “Um, he’s visiting for the week from college.”

“Your parents know he’s here?” Now he knows he isn’t going to win this competition. He hasn’t even met your parents! How is this fair? The first girl he properly falls for and she’s got some secret boyfriend.

“Well, yeah.”

“And they’re just fine with that?” He scoffed, pulling away from the hold you had on his arm.

“Well, he is my mom’s nephew,” you mumbled, looking at him anxiously. You weren’t sure what you’d done wrong. You knew you hadn’t seen JJ today, but you hadn’t seen your older cousin since Christmas and you didn’t think it was polite to not spend at least one day showing him around the island.

JJ’s head snapped towards you. He was silent for a moment, before a laugh left his mouth. Daniel was your cousin. JJ had spent the entire day freaking out over you having a boyfriend when said boyfriend was your cousin. “Fuck, sweetheart. I’m sorry, I was a dick.”

“I’m confused,” you said softly, stepping towards him hesitantly.

He strode over to you, arms wrapping around your waist as he pressed an apologetic kiss to your temple. “I saw you earlier, at the mall—”

“You were at the mall? Without me?” You pouted, interrupting him.

“It was torture, trust me, but not as fuckin’ torturous as me thinkin’ you had some secret man that you’d kept from me,” he confessed.

“Did I… did I not mention I was hanging out with my cousin?” You were sure you’d told him, but now that you really thought about maybe that was Sarah you’d told he was coming to visit. Your cheeks heated up, maybe because you felt guilty but also because you couldn’t help the flutter in your chest that had appeared once you realised that JJ had been jealous.

“No, baby,” he chuckled, looking down at you. “I should’ve asked, though. Shouldn’t have been a dick, ‘m sorry. And when your cousin comes back down I won’t stare at him like I’m gonna kill him.”

“Mkay,” you hummed with a giggle, leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek. “Only want you, Jayj. Thought you’d have worked that out by now.”

This time it was his turn to blush. He rolled his eyes, but a smile played on his lips as he lifted you up and sat down on the couch with you in his lap. He kissed your jaw, stroking your cheek as he stared at you in awe.

“You’re the only one I want, too.”

“Mike loves El”— At this point I’ve seen so many people in your asks give very good detailed reasonings disproving that. If Milkvan’s still want to go on and on about Mike’s love for El than so be it. Bet on a losing horse. What I want to get to the bottom of is: Why does El love Mike? What has Mike done for El to make her love him?

With a couple like Jonathan and Nancy we can clearly see the love and understanding and support from both sides They are a pair. A team. They communicate well and they apologize and own up to their mistakes when they are wrong. They were so good together in season 1 that it made people root for them really hard to get together in season 2.

El tells Mike she loves him after a season where their relationship was at its absolute worst. I can’t see why she could possibly love him. All they do is awkwardly make out and have cute/silly surface level moments together. They don’t have deep meaningful conversations like every other canon couple. They don’t see eye-to-eye. They don’t share in each others interests. I definitely don’t see a viable reason for her to like him (in season 3) let alone love him. Where is the love? When did it happen? What did El see that I missed? Did she love him when, right after their break up, he comfortably lounged on the couch and shoved handfuls of chips in his mouth? Or was it when he called her a “species” and complained to Lucas about her? Is it when he got super paranoid and was convinced that El and Max were conspiring against him? Or maybe it was when instead of actually apologizing and resolving their issues he just made a silly little quip about M&M’s to her? Maybe that did it.

On the other side of things it’s very easy to see why Will loves Mike. Mike is attentive to Will like no other. He treats him like an equal. They have very meaningful conversations. They have shared interests. Mike makes Will feel supported and comforted and makes sure his thoughts and feelings are validated. Anyone who has watched season 2 can clearly see that. They have a very good relationship. They trust each other on a different level. They see each other as a team. They are a pair.

“If we’re both going crazy maybe we can go crazy together?”

Every season since season 2 Mike and Will have been together right by each others sides throughout everything. Whereas El has been removed from Mike and the group for huge chunks of time season after season, sometimes the entire season, to go on some self discovery journey that allows her to come into her own and grow more as a person—away from Mike. Each season they grow farther and farther apart.

Do Mike and El care about each other deeply? Yes! Of course! El was a traumatized kid who knew nothing but negativity. She was seen as a weapon; not a child. No one showed her love or safety. Then she found Mike and he cared for her like no one else had. He was the first to show her kindness and friendship. Mike was a bullied kid with a lot of insecurities who went through a traumatizing situation.

Both of them want to be loved. To be accepted for who they are. They both fell for what they thought was love without knowing what it should look like. It’s not love—not in that way.

Yes. Literally yes. I have so many bylers coming into my ask box making detailed, correct analyses of Mike and Will’s relationship, then I have the milkvans come in with one sentence answers like, “he remembered here bennys burgers t shirt!!”…do they even hear how stupid they sound?

And you’re soooo right. El doesn’t love Mike romantically either. She also has sort of idolized him, (the shrine in her bedroom in season 4) and it seems both of them don’t see each other as equals, but above each other. I see this stated all the time with Mike, but never with El. I think it’s a really important detail that contributes to why mileven doesn’t work.

Jancy is a perfectly healthy couple, supportive and open with each other. Even in season 4, we see their conflict resolved at the end with their talk. We don’t have that with El and Mike. Why? If Mike and El are such a good couple, why wouldn’t they parallel jancy? There is a pair of “friends” who do parallel them though, aren’t there? Mike and Will.

Yup, yup, yup. El doesn’t have many reasons to love Mike romantically either. They just don’t work. All of season 3 is a complete, awkward mess like you said. Mike is a bit of an asshole the middle half of the season. And, (please don’t kill me for this) El also doesn’t respect Mike’s boundaries. She spys on him and doesn’t apologize either. They’re both in the wrong. They both don’t love each other like that. Season 3 is really a complete mess of their unhealthy relationship.

Accurate. Will’s Mike is easy for Will to love, because Mike isn’t pretending anymore. He’s being his true self. When they fight, Mike apologizes immediately. They’ve probably had the most heart to hearts out of any other couple. Certainly more than mileven. The entirety of season 2 was Mike loving and helping Will through everything, even when he was possessed. That’s why it’s so easy for Will to love Mike. His Mike is a different one than El has.

You’re so right, anon. El has been shown to grow more independent through out the seasons. Season 2 has her fighting alongside Kali and realizing the full extent of her powers, season 3 has her discovering herself as a person, and season 4 has her discovering her past. And eventually saving Max. Meanwhile Mike and Will have been by each others sides since always. Because they’re Mike and Will.

And yes, Mike and El do love each other! I believe it is completely platonic though, because neither of them have the capability of loving each other the way they want to be loved. But I believe they will stay good friends after their break up, and perhaps even become closer because of it. They are kind of bonded, in a platonic way, but I don’t think it was ever meant to go beyond that.

And yes, both of them loved because they were almost, well, pressured to. Nancy and Lucas with Mike, and El’s complete unawareness of dating lead them both straight into a fake love. They fell in love with the idea of each other, I think. Even idolization, like I said earlier. They don’t love each other how they want to be loved.

God. Dammit. Most people didn't employ jumps so much in their fighting style, it was such a dangerous move usually, but it's not a danger to them if you don't know how to fucking take advantage of it.

The landing on your head makes your throat click again out of annoyance, and while you try to stumble forward, the momentum of your halberd continuing around doesn't let you make much distance, and you feel the weapons hit your back.

You know that the only way you'd get out of this versus his speed is flashstepping, but you've already resolved to make this fair, so pretty much all you can do is release your left hand from your weapon to form a fist to block the strike to the back of your neck - yes, you know that if it was the sharp side that would have cut through your hand, but your neck was your weak spot because of the hole through it, back of a blade or not. You refuse to get hit there.

God, at least you could see it coming.

The pommel however hits right on target though, and your shoulders reel back. You don't move further, releasing your other hand from your halberd. That was a fair loss. You drop your head for a moment, before slowly inhaling to refill your lungs back with air.

"You're fast."

You sound a little bit frustrated, and you pause for a couple more seconds to start getting into the pattern of breathing again, before stowing your weapon back into storage and dragging yourself to your feet. You're surprised at how much none of those strikes actually hurt as much as you expected. You haven't been injured much since you died, and nearly all of the injuries you did get pierced flesh, but apparently blunt force wasn't that much of a deterrent to you anymore.

You turn back around to face him, blowing the hair out of your face while you try and restraighten your clothes into where they're supposed to be. The people who stopped to watch start dispersing again, murmuring amongst themselves. It probably wasn't that often they saw a highblood lose in a fight.

"But that was the most fun I've had in a while! Really does prove I need to find a teacher to keep training though."

You break into a grin, although lift one hand to your mouth to just slightly cover your sharp teeth.

rose would do it. first because bless her but she has the situational awareness of a rock, and legitimately would not realize this isn’t her doctor until his facade starts to break down and he starts bleeding grief-laced love for her at every turn. but once she does realize it, she’s both deeply sympathetic and a little scared that she could make him into this. it’s a lot to be confronted with having that much power over someone, to break them so thoroughly. rose would try to get back to her doctor, but while she’s with the future version, she tries to do what she can to ease his pain. (she also tries to figure out a way to subvert her fate. she fails.)

i think martha would be harder to trick. she can smell desperation on the doctor like a bloodhound. she is so tapped into the fact that this man wants to off himself so bad and that she’s 90% of his self-restraint, so present her with a doctor who is lacking that and she’s onto him immediately. however, assuming he gets her to come with him, explains why he’s doing this, there’s like. a minute where she’s kind of. not flattered exactly, but surprised, giddy with the realization that he’d come back for a little more time with her, especially if this is early season 3 martha. which would all come crashing down around the time that he reveals that he wasn’t pushed to this by losing her to some tragedy or her death or anything- but that she chose to leave. that is the point at which martha goes ‘oh i need to get the fuck off of this tardis right now’ and ghosts the past!doctor that she was also traveling with because holy shit, man.

donna, like rose, is easily bamboozled into following the wrong doctor home, provided that he shuffles her along into his tardis too fast for her to argue. but she catches on far quicker than rose does. like, three minutes tops of watching the doctor move through the tardis in a way that’s definitely not enthusiastic piloting and looks more like guilty panic. and then she yells at him for lying to her. and she yells at him for kidnapping her. and then she stops yelling because he’s gone sort of still and quiet and his eyes are just broken. and he doesn’t explain himself, he confesses. donna is going to try to stay with him after this btw. because how do you go back to looking your best friend in the eyes when you know he’d take everything you’ve become away from you, even to save your life? and this is still the doctor, he still did that to her, but he regrets it. regrets it so much that he can’t live with it, he’s breaking time and space just to hear her say his name again. and donna doesn’t want to lose him anymore than he wanted to lose her.

Still baffled that Hopes so blatantly wrote Claude as the typical Evil Vaguely Middle Eastern Man set on destroying the Good White Nation for his Evil Vaguely Middle Eastern Nation that is often seen in fantasy settings - complete with him being seen as worse than a white woman who does many of the same evil deeds he does in-verse, even by his friends (should it be the bad ending route of SB) - and so many in the fandom were so eager to gobble that shit up. Assuming that the whole 'mahiru is the vessel needed to bring back the count and the 9th servamp will be the servamp of vainglory' theory will be correct, it's interesting how both mahiru and touma can be accused of this sin even if the way it applies to them is opposed.

What touma wants is to be acknowledged and to that end he was willing to become the villain who destroyed the world before mahiru and tsurugi managed to change his mind:

Mahiru's way of being vainglorious seems a lot more positive at first because he wants to be a hero who saves others, but it's self-destructive and encourages laziness in others:

But thankfully we see mahiru starting to let go of the need to make other people proud of him and to prioritize making himself proud in his conversation with tsurugi:

and later when mahiru has a meltdown because he fears his uncle might be dead and suggests sacrificing his life to save the world kuro rightfully yells at mahiru for acting hypocritical and not listening to his own advice:

(I want to mention here that I really love how horrified kuro looks as he realizes that mahiru's reckless hero behaviour comes from a very self-destructing place:

because not a lot of manga I know really acknowledge that maybe the way a lot of their protagonists try to be heroic is actually pretty unhealthy and shouldn't be encouraged? Like Sigurd pointed out at the C3 meeting, it's kind of shameful that the children have to save the day)

Which is why I love that mahiru decided to trust kuro to handle tsubaki without him going with him:

He decides to stay back with everyone else, showing that he has learned that he doesn't need to be the one to do everything and can stay back with the others to buy kuro time.

Interestingly we see touma doing something similar. Opposed to his old need to have the whole world acknowledge him he now wishes for everyone to believe he's dead and he's helping to protect the city by creating a huge barrier without making it known that's he the one doing this:

He's helping the protagonists seemingly with no intention of earning acknowledgement for it.

I think in a way it could be cool of servamp to subvert the shouned trope that for the finale battle the only one able to defeat the big bad is the protagonist while everyone else just watches on from the sidelines, not allowed to do anything because this is the protagonist's moment of glory.

What if lily's plan when he put kuro in mahiru's path was that if kuro tried to stop tsubaki at the gate surely his eve would need to be there with him, right? Because of course he needs his eve to fight and then there's also the distance limit. So why not make the vessel you need at that gate for the ritual to work kuro's eve? Then the vessel would be at the place where you need them without you even needing to do something because naturally they would be thinking they are doing the right thing by going with kuro to fight tsubaki together. And surely someone as vainglorious as mahiru would never pass up the opportunity to be the hero who stops tsubaki. It's foolproof!

Unless of course before the ritual the vessel learned to let go of their vainglorious nature, accepted that it's okay to take a step into the background and trust in others. And additionally also found a way to break through the whole forced proximity thing that the servamp and eves had going on.

I don't know, I feel like it would be a neat bow on mahiru's character arc and a unique way to thawrt the antagonists' plans if the creation of the servamp of vainglory failed because the 'it has to be me' guy they wanted to use as the vessel decided against glory and stayed back to let his partner handle things with tsubaki alone because he trusts him. Kuro on the other hand wants to make up for his past regrets and resolve the conflict through communication this time. Learning to trust in himself again by managing to talk tsubaki out of going through with the ritual on his own would be a logical conclusion to kuro's arc.

Man that DLC's final boss has got me feeling kinda fucked. I'm kinda depressed about it now that I'm done. Everything else is, was, so good. But I do not like that plot development. I honestly think it is bad. Why did they choose not to foreshadow this in literally any way? Why did Miquella attempt to resurrect Godwyn at all in the first place, then? Practice? Was this really what was originally planned? There's no actual evidence to the contrary so you gotta assume it must've been.
