Have you checked out House of David yet?

I’ve only watched the first two episodes, and I can say that I like it very much! I did, though, pirate it because I don’t want to get a Prime account....

But there are some things in the series that I really hated. An example is how the series portrays the Amalekites and the Philistines. Like, since when were the Amalekites cannibals?? Congrats, they picked an anti-Semitic myth and put it on another group of Semitic people.....🙃 Whose genius idea was that even??? I do know why the series wanted so much to portray the Amalekites as blood-drinking barbarians, with rotten teeth and looking like they hadn’t invented the concept of bathing... it’s because they wanted to manufacture consent for the audience, so we don’t question or even agree when the main characters celebrate the mass murder of the Amalekites.

I think I also realized how much I would love to see an actual historical retelling of the story of David that portrays the other Canaanite groups as not crazy evil barbarians and acknowledges that the religion back then wasn’t monotheistic but instead paganistic. For example, the reason why Mephibosheth is named like that is that his actual name is Meribaal, and the change was made simply to remove the connection of the Canaanite god Baal. A princes named after Baal propose the idea that the tribes were more merged with the other pagan groups. I mean, the Bible itself constantly yells at the reader to stop worshipping the other Canaanite gods, so that tells us something as well. Heck having a bible adaptation that aknowledge Asherah (El/Yahweh's wife) just a little bit sounds awesome, ngl. 😅

Either way, I have a lot of other stuff I want to talk about regarding the TV series! I just need to catch up a bit! Ignoring the above... I like it so far!

Also why they gotta do Agag like that, he’s freakyy, I honestly couldn’t stop cracking up whenever he appeared. They tried too hard to make him so grotesque to the point it’s comical. Bro began chanting spells and freaking tf out of Michal

Better see some good Saul torment next episode lol, that weird montage at the end with like Saul dissociating and freaking out after Samuel leaves kinda took me out a little lmao

Stephen as "Samuel" in the 2025 Prime Video series "House of David", Season 1, Episode 1: "A Shepherd and King". *NOTE: There are currently 4 episodes (as of me writing this) out and I'm working diligently on getting the next 3 episodes posted, then carrying on as the series airs. Stephen truly is phenomenal as "Samuel" and I highly recommend you watch this series, even if you're not religious or into anything biblical. Stephen alone is enough to grant a watch!

I just finished watching all the released episodes of the House of David series.

And I’ve fallen even deeper in love with Jonathan. The House of David version of Jonathan is absolutely insane… 😻

First of all,

1. He’s incredibly kind.

2. He cries a lot.

3. He probably had a lover who passed away!!

4. He has complicated issues with his brother

He’s absolutely perfect. I’m obsessed.

I understand the issues people might have with shows like the Chosen or House of David, but the best part of them is also their greatest strength - they manage to humanize and recontextualize the people and stories when we tend to read them in such a sanitized and bland way like!! I’ve only seen some of the Chosen, but in House of David they really dont have to add much for such an intense and visceral story. We somehow get used to “and the Spirit departed from Saul” that the horror of that gets lost. When u see the desparation and abandonment and fear of insanity not only in Saul himself but also in his family the whole thing is revitalized. Or when Samuel just,, picks up a sword and hacks apart Agag like Why am i gasping i knew that but i didn’t!! know that!!

Got high, watched some House of David, and ate some cheesy pizza, hell yeahh

I still got some more episodes to watch BUT, idc what anyone else thinks, I’m enjoying this so far. I live for the lore for all of the characters 🔥 it really got me tehee kicking my feet giggling over everything lmao. I still have some icks tho, and as everyone else already stated, yeah I really don’t like how they try to villainize the people that worship other gods. Also- what’s with the consensus of the Amalekites being cannibals?? It’s not just the House of David- I also see it in the upcoming David Movie when I found some of their concept art with David and some enemies wearing a bunch of bones- yeah let me guess… cannibals huh? Tbh idk what group of ppl they are- maybe it’s the Philistines, but yeah… They especially tried to do that with Doeg- but with casting spells and killing animals shi 😭 he fr didn’t need to do all of that bru…

Well, the fight scenes were badass, also Jonathan sparring with Saul and venting to each other… yesssssssssss YES. Also- poor David I feel for him in this 😔 and I didn’t expect them to actually add his cinderella—Nitzevet from the Talmud backstory in this aaa. ​I also love whenever Samuel is cracking up and everyone just stands there with a straight face. And yum, torment Saul some more pls. Ngl, that vision he had where he fr starts tweaking out- I fw it but the visuals were a bit corny nglll 😭 but not them already showing the Gilboa battle and Jonathan dying NAHHHH 🥀🥀

When will David and Jonathan interact tho… hello?? I need them meet each other already… NOW ☠️☠️

Anyways, after watching a few episodes, was high and doodling David, Jonathan and everyone as birds in my sketchbook. I couldn’t stop thinking abt them as birds. I got quite hyperfixated, and l ended up with a bunch of pages of them… they’re honestly so cute tho 😭
