i recently reached 100 followers (ahhh!! thank you all so so much <3), and in celebration of this i'm releasing my very first lot!
as a historical simmer who isn't american, i'm always on the lookout for historical builds based in britain, so i thought i'd have a go at building some of my own!
this build is based on a traditional scottish highland croft, a type of smallholding that emerged after the highland clearances. the highland clearances took place in the north of scotland between 1750 and 1860, and saw highlanders moved from the land that their ancestors had lived on for generations. those that were left may have moved into crofting communities on poorer quality land.
my build consists of a two-room thatched house with a kitchen on one side of the building and chamber on the other side, along with small amounts of planting and grazing land (aka ridged beds and a barn in sims hehe). in the chamber i attempted a little box-bed (where the bed is enclosed within a wooden cupboard). i tried to make it cc free but @lilis-palace's folklore collections were too perfect!

HOW MUCH DID SATELLITES COST
My Dad, Butch Sheffield, was with the SR 71 program from cradle ( Hired in 1964-Skunk Works winning Collier Award 1999) to grave and wrote down in his unpublish book some of his reasons why it was canceled prematurely.
During the Carter Administration, 1977-81, while Stansfield Turner was Director of the CIA, the two of them decided to rely upon National Technical Means (NTM) or Spy Satellites for intelligence. This included eliminating manned aircraft and spies on the ground. This has been proven to be one of the biggest intelligence mistakes ever. The reason for this strategy was it was risk-free for the political Administration. No airplanes or spies could be captured and displayed like Francis Powers and the U-2.
This made the politician feel comfortable.
NSA National Security Agency never liked the SR-71.
All the time I was Recce. Chief, they (the NSA) came to the Pentagon in groups to try to insult the SR 71 program in any way, they could. You would attend a meeting, and one or two people would attend from each service and DOD. NSA would show up with ten people. I would ask why. They would say that each one represents an area of NSA. It was a joke in the Pentagon.
I would only let one at a time in my area.
They would tell the White House in a flash-type message that an SR was almost intercepted by a Foxbat when the Foxbat was three hundred miles away from the SR. The cost of this, National Tactical Means (NTM) has never been made public; in fact, most people with security clearances inside the government don’t know the cost. I knew because I got a copy, one of twelve printed each year by the NRO, telling the real cost of the satellite, the launch cost, the communications cost, and the ground station cost.
The cost was enormous.
The NRO did not want to give me the book. I knew it existed and asked for it. Finally, they gave it to me after I pressured the Director when I worked for the U S Congress.
One might ask how did this affect the SR-71? The answer is that once this very large amount of money was being spent on satellites, they no longer wanted to fund the SR and then went from a National collection platform to a tactical intelligence asset. Now you know the true story.

Chemical Reactions (P. 7)
Pairing: Cillian Murphy as J Robert Oppenheimer x Student Reader
Warning: Lots of Dialogue, Age-Gap, Infidelity
Words: 1,905
Note: The fic is spoiler free and my own fantasy and imagination. It is not historically and scientifically accurate.
Previous Parts: 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6
THIS PART IS DIALOGUE HEAVY AND PART EIGHT WILL BE SIMILAR, BOTH PARTS ARE NECESSARY THOUGH TO EXPAND THE STORY.
With a squeak and a bang, you suddenly heard the door to your room opening and, naturally, you startled and sat up on your bed now that you had been woken up from your slumber.
Robert, on the other hand, took a little longer to wake up and stretched beneath the large doona until, suddenly, his eyes opened wide when he heard another voice.
“Shit” he then cursed while looking at his friend. His cheeks were blushing and he certainly felt embarrassed by the situation. It was written all over his face.
“Robert” Haakon chuckled in response. “That I did not expect” he then said somewhat surprised before looking at you with concern.
“It is not what it looks like” Robert attempted to say just as you asked Haakon whether he did not know how to knock.
“Why did you barge in here like this?” you then asked, seeing that, clearly, something must have happened. Haakon and his wife usually respected your privacy but, today, they did not.
“Your father was arrested last night” he then told you while Robert reached for his briefs which still laid scattered on the floor, right next to your panties.
“So what?” you asked, seeing that this was not the first time it happened.
“I need to go” Robert said with concern, but it was not your father he was concerned about. It was his security clearance.
“You should take the backdoor. People are watching our house and I am aware that you cannot associate yourself with us communists anymore” Haakon told Robert and, whilst Haakon did not know what Robert was working on, he knew that it was something for the government. It was something that could end the war and it was most certainly something that had to remain a secret.
“I will. Thank you” Robert said as he finally managed to put on his briefs beneath the confides of your doona before crawling out of bed and collecting the rest of his clothes. “I trust that this will stay between us?” Robert then asked his friend, to which Haakon nodded, causing you to sigh and ponder whether this was, indeed, a good idea.
“Goodbye Robert” you said with a smile nonetheless, which is when Robert told you that he would call you when he was back in San Francisco.
“Uh huh” you said, feeling somewhat deflated even though you had a lengthy discussion last night about what this may or may not become. You did not expect him to call and you knew that Robert was not going to leave his wife which meant that you were no more than his secret lover now.
Whether he truly wanted you to join him on the project was also something you were unsure about now. Did he just say it, in the heat of the moment, or did he mean it? You were not entirely certain but, before Robert left Haakon’s house, you told him that your answer was “yes” which, ultimately, was the last spoken word between you and Robert for the next couple of weeks.
***
“You are making a mistake” Haakon then said with some concern after Robert had left through the backdoor of his house, knowing that the FBI was watching the front entrance to his residence.
“Perhaps I am, but there is something very intriguing about J Robert Oppenheimer” you told your father’s friend who asked you to sit down with him.
He wanted to talk about it as, evidently, he cared for you. Haakon had always been like an uncle for you and his sense of protectiveness showed a lot this morning after he caught you and his friend in bed together.
“Robert isn’t the right man for you Y/N” he said with concern and you could not help but sigh. You already knew that he was not but you wanted to be with him nonetheless. It was like an addiction you could not shake.
“Of course he is not. He is married” you thus pointed out, but this was not what Haakon was concerned about.
“He is a complicated man and, believe it or not, I have a vague idea of what his work entails these days. If you join him on this journey, you will likely be subjected to investigations and dealings that you do not want to be subjected to” your father’s friend told you which, of course, you already knew about.
“Geez Haakon, and I thought you would approve of this if it was for the cause” you thus chuckled, seeing that, surely, by this point, he would have wanted to get some intel on the government operations from Robert as well.
“But you are not a spy and you are most certainly not a communist” Haakon acknowledged, knowing that you would never jeopardise your career for communism.
“Which is why I will be just fine” you thus told him, but Haakon did not think that it was going to be that easy for you.
“No, you won’t be Y/N! But it is your choice nonetheless. I just think that you fell in love with the wrong man” Haakon told you again with a little more concern than before.
“I am not in love” you ought to clarify.
“I am not going to comment on that” Haakon told you. “What I can tell you however is that, if Kitty finds out about your affair with Robert, she will not take kindly to it” he then cautioned you and you wondered whether she knew about Jean Tatlock and Ruth Tolman at all.
“Does she know about the other women?” you thus asked, seeing that Haakon was rather talkative that morning.
“She knows about Jean Tatlock, but she does not know about Ruth Tolman, both of whom are history now” Haakon said, wanting you to know and be able to make an informed decision about your future with J Robert Oppenheimer, whether it be on a romantic or strictly professional level.
“Why?” you asked, knowing that Robert had ended both affairs, but you did not know what gave rise to his decision and wondered whether Haakon was privy to this information.
“I don’t know but I feel as though it had something to do with you” Haakon told you, which was no more than an assumption.
“Oh god Haakon, you knew already, didn’t you?” you asked with surprise.
“Yes. I knew. Robert and I talk and he spoke about another woman a little while ago. He referred to you as a rather intelligent woman whom he met at university without giving away your identity. I since have seen the looks you exchanged with each other on two occasions, so it was obvious to me that the woman he spoke about was you. But, on a personal level, I am not your problem Y/N” Haakon then informed you, telling you that your secret would be safe with him.
“What do you mean?” you wondered nonetheless, wanting to know what and who to watch out for.
“Kitty probably already knows about you to some extent” he warned you, causing you to sigh.
“I honestly do not understand why Robert chose to marry her” you then said somewhat inadvertently.
“Honestly, none of us know. But I suppose he did the honourable thing. They too had an affair while Kitty was still married to someone else. She then fell pregnant unexpectedly, Kitty and her husband divorced, and Robert married her” Haakon informed you before cautioning you again.
“What I need you to be careful of is her manipulative nature. If she finds out about you sleeping with her husband, she will make your life rather difficult. She is very controlling and she most certainly is not right for Robert, but neither are you” Haakon told you before telling you to go and pack your bags as, according to him, you had to move out immediately.
“Why?” you asked, wondering why you had to leave the Chevalier residence all so urgently now.
“Because you cannot associate yourself with us any longer if you want to get onto whatever project it is that Robert is leading” Haakon informed you and, of course, this made sense to you. You had to cut your communist ties.
“He is leading the project?” you asked nonetheless. “He didn’t say” you then pointed out.
“He occasionally tries to be humble. Now go and pack” Haakon chuckled before gathering some bags for you.
To be continued…
Please comment and engage. I love getting comments and predictions pretty please!

Driving While Black: Race, Space and Mobility in America
Please consider watching this documentary, especially if you want to learn about how systemic racism works within the system of transportation, as well as its mental and physical effects on Black people in particular. You will learn something new.
You can watch the entire thing, for free, at the link above. It's about two hours long. There are English captions, though near the end the timing is a bit off.
In the second half of the documentary, they show footage of police brutality against Black Americans. The footage is interspersed between interviews and other segments, often without warning. It is distressing and that is the point.
Below are some quotes from the documentary I've collected, if you do not have the time to watch it right now:
Allyson Hobbs, historian at Stanford University: (1:13:48 – 1:14:26) “There’s a very complicated history around the interstate. The interstate for Black travelers creates a very positive benefit in that the interstate makes travel safer in many ways because instead of traveling on country roads and back roads where there was quite a bit of fear and quite a bit of uncertainty about what could happen, traveling on interstates felt more safe and more secure.”
Eric Avila, author of The Folklore of the Freeway: (1:14:31 – 1:14:59) “The interstate highway program was kind of built with this myth of consensus. That it’s what everybody wanted. It’s by popular demand. But for people of color, and for African Americans in particular, they were kind of left out of that consensus because their neighborhoods were the sacrificial lands in which to build this highway.”
Elie: (1:16:20 – 1:16:45): “The thing that people usually say is ‘these were dying communities and we needed the overpasses, we needed the highways to move people out of these ghetto environments.’ Well in fact, these were communities that were vibrant. That people were living in. That the United States government destroyed through a combination of active funding of detrimental projects, and a kind of benign neglect.”
Avila (1:17:23 – 1:18:12): “Highway construction impacted Black communities or other non-white communities, because that’s where property values were the lowest. There is a certain kind of cost effective strategy in building highways through neighborhoods with lower property values. It costs the state less. However, historically, lower property values have been tied to race and African Americans in particular. In many ways all of these federal policies and programs were interconnected. The Federal Housing Administration’s policies, urban renewal, slum clearance, highway construction, all of these processes worked in tandem with each other to create an even more racially stratified geography.”
Leah Chase, chef: (1:18:14 – 1:18:38): “And they did that so fast, I’m telling you: because Black people were not involved in anything in those days. People would do things, we didn’t even know what was going on. We were not involved. In those days we were not allowed into the process so they just came through there with that thing, took away houses; took away good businesses, good people.”
Alvin Hall, author: (1:19:38 – 1:19:52): “You see it again and again in almost every major city in America, and it was really a huge economic setback for many African American businesses because they became isolated.”
Hobbs: (1:19:54 – 1:20:15): “If you retrace it and if you go to some of these areas that were once bustling Black business districts, now often they are abandoned buildings, sometimes they are abandoned, sort of, empty fields.”
Tamara Banks, journalist: (1:20:54 – 1:21:24): “When you erase a history, you erase an identity. You erase what’s important to people and how they connect with their community and how they connect with humanity as a whole. When you lose that culture and that space, now there’s a chink in the chain of your family legacy and you start to wonder, does my legacy matter? Does my life matter?”
Craig Steven Wilder, historian at MIT: (1:25:32 – 1:26:18) “The Montgomery Bus Boycott is actually a story of transportation in many ways. It’s the bus boycott, but it’s also how it was that African American women managed to establish and to reuse a network of connections to deploy their resources to sustain this boycott over months and months and months. And it meant, in fact, accessing cars. It meant finding new ways to move people around town, new ways to actually get people to their jobs. And so Montogomery is in many ways actually a wonderful way of thinking about how Black people deployed the automobile to challenge Jim Crow.”
Sorin: (1:19:15 – 1:19:33): “When road planners put through highways, they often take the path of least resistance, and that’s one of the reasons that Black communities have been so vulnerable, because they have the least amount of power to stop it.”
Sorin: (1:33:11 – 1:33:22): “I think the automobile is the way that many people encounter the police, and I think that’s where we start to get the term ‘Driving While Black.’”
James Baldwin, author: (1:35:07 – 1:35:24): “A cop is a cop. And yeah, he may be a very nice man, but I haven’t got the time to figure that out. All I know is that he has a uniform and a gun, and I have to relate to him in that way. That’s the only way to relate to him, at all, ‘cause one of us is gonna, one of us may have to die.”
Hobbs (1:36:42 – 1:37:10): “There are still so many dangers of being on the road, and I think we’re in a time right now where African Americans are feeling a similar kind of fear as their grandparents felt in the 1930s and 40s.”

John: Right. You're coming with me
Roger: Me?
John: Yes
Roger: Why? Where are we going?
John: That's a surprise
Roger: A surprise!? 😀 Is it a good surprise?
John: Yes.
Roger: Alright then.
*Roger gets in to John's car. Roger notices that John's done something to the back seats to extend the boot space, but doesn't say anything. John drives them away from their studio, away from the industrial built up area and starts heading towards residential streets*
Roger: ... Where's this, then?
John: If i told you, it wouldn't be a surprise
Roger: Not even a hint
John: No.
Roger: hmm...
*John parks outside of an ordinary looking house down an ordinary looking street*
Roger: Are you moving here?
John: No
Roger: Then why
John gets out of the car, Roger follows suit.
John: You know I go to St Paul's?
Roger: Yeah...
John: Well, there was a notice on the odd job board. I look on it sometimes, see if anyone needs any repairs need doimg, you know. I don't like little old ladies getting ripped off if I can do something for free.
Roger: Yeah. Sweet.
John, walks towards the house: So there was this note on there. House clearance. A little old lady named Mavis is moving in with her son, but there's no room for all of her things to go with her.
Roger: That's a shame
John: Yeah, the note asked for people to come and take stuff to charity shops for her, especially her extremely large book collection.
Roger: ... Wait 😃
John: So I rung up, you know. Explained I saw her notice board note, that I've done work for other people who go to St Paul's, described myself incase she'd seen me there and she had, you know, so she knew I was who I said I was. I said me and my friend would be happy to help her clear out her books. She asked how much? I said, what if instead of paying us, we took some books as payment? And she was perfectly happy with that.
John: *knocks on the door*
Roger: You're kidding. How many books does she have?
John: The note just said extremely large book collection. I suppose it depends on how many shelves she has in a place like this.
*A little old lady answers the door*
Little Old Lady: Hello? You must be John Deacon, and his friend?
John: Yes, Mrs Northwhich, this is my friend Roger. Sorry we're about 10 minutes late, the roads were busier than I thought
Mrs Northwhich: Oh that's alright, dear. That's given the cake a bit of a chance to cool down. Won't you come in?
They go in the house. There are small piles of books on the wall side of each step going upstairs. Roger gives John an excited look
Mrs Northwhich: Would you like something to drink before you start? Or later?
John: Oh no, thank you, Mrs Northwhich, we'll start now and have a break later, if that's alright?
Mrs N: That's perfectly fine. I think... Would you like to start in the attic and work your way down, or start in the living room and work your way up?
John: Whichever's best for you, Mrs Northwhich.
Mrs N: Start downstairs then, dear. Right in here.
She leads them in to a living room. Square with a bay window. There's a fireplace on the structural wall seperating he front room from the back room, and to the right of that is a book shelf. Then there's a suite on the long wall, with a book shelf underneath the windowsill of the bay window and two armchairs either side. Then a cabinet with books on top at an angle across the corner of the two walls, and then a huge tall book shelves with piles of books in front, piled up from the floor.
John: You want to get rid of all these?
Mrs N: Oh yes, dear. My Son already has the ones I've whittled down for taking with me to his house.
John: ... I think this might be a weekend long job
Mrs N: That's fine for me dear, if it's fine for you
Roger: It is perfectly fine for me! 😃
Mrs N: You must be the book lover Mr Deacon here was talking about? We can talk more over cake when you stop for a break, yes?
Roger: Yeah!
Mrs N: Wonderful. If you need any bin bags, there's a brand new roll under the sink, and there's boxes underneath the stairs. I'll let you get on
John: Thank you. But just to make sure, you definitely want to get rid of all of these books? Do you need us to make a list as we go? That way if there's any-
Mrs N: Oh no! No no no! My favourites were all upstairs with me in my room, and now my Son has them. I couldn't possibly take any more with me, he'll go spare. Go on go on, you start. I'll be in the kitchen or garden if you need me
John: Alright. Thank you, Mrs Northwhich
*Mrs N leaves the room*
Roger: Deaky, mate, I could kiss you
John: Well, don't, we've got some books to shift 🤣 You know, I... I might have underestimated her use of the words "extremely large"
Roger: I've got an idea. If we fill the car up, as long as Mrs Northwich doesn't mind, we can take that back to ours, pick up the van, and come back with the van for the next lot
John: Yeah I was thinking that. One of us could stay with her, too, so she doesn't think we're leaving the job half... well, barely done.
Roger: Yeah.
John: Where to start then?
Roger: I can't believe she wants all of these books gone
John: I know...
Roger: We'll start in that corner.
John: Okay, I'll go out to the car and get a box, you start taking them off the shelves
Roger: Sir, yes, sir!
John: *rolls eyes good naturedly and then leaves the room*
Roger, shouting after him: John?
John, popping his head back in: Yeah?
Roger: You're officially my best friend
John, laughing: Okay.

A sneak peek of my series Sweet Nothings, a verse filled with so so many babies!
It wasn’t unusual for Ed to wake up before Stede. That was pretty much a given at this stage of their relationship – after a near lifetime of Ed rising with the sun, and just as long of Stede hiding under the covers until the absolute last possible moment, there wasn't much that was going to change that now.
They’d pretty much distilled their morning routine down to a science, Ed making sure the house (and everyone in it) were awake and out the door on time, coffees in hands and breakfasts in bellies, while Stede took closing shift, ensuring that everyone went off to sleep snug as a bug in a rug. It worked for them, and their system ran on an efficiency he wished he could instill at the marina.
It was, however, unusual for Ed to wake up before Charlotte. The kid’s circadian rhythm seemed determined to mirror Ed’s, which neither of them were necessarily complaining about, given her proclivity to (mostly) sleeping through the nights now, something they absolutely bragged about in their parenting groups. Was it a little gauche? Probably. But it wasn’t their fault that their kid just happened to be better than all of the other babies. Maybe the other babies should try not being worse than theirs.
On most mornings, she would start stirring before Ed, starting to get fussy just as he himself was rising. On most mornings, he would find her not so patiently waiting for him to free her from the confines of her crib, a truly inhumane corral, he was sure she’d tell anyone who'd listen, if she could. On most mornings, he would scoop up his deliciously chunky baby and hold her close for as long as he could until she eventually demanded the newly free use of her legs, after which point she was off, more often than not to destroy the living room.
On this morning, though, Ed slowly stirred to waking in relative silence, hearing only Stede’s soft snoring underneath him. The quiet was almost disorienting – he hadn't had a quiet morning in almost a year. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Ed rolled over to check the baby monitor, seeing Charlotte still curled around her stuffy, fast asleep in her crib.
There was the briefest of moments – really fucking brief, he wasn’t an actual idiot – where Ed actually debated waking her up, before he immediately decided that if he and Stede wanted any semblance of peace today, that was absolutely not the move. If Stede had a reputation for his attitudes at not getting his way, Charlotte was an actual menace to society if wronged.
They’d been told she’d grow out of it. Well, probably grow out of it (Stede clearly hadn't). Until then, it was Charlotte’s world and everyone else was just living in it.
Rolling back over, Ed nestled back into his place against Stede’s chest for another while, lingering in the steady rise and fall of his husband’s breathing under his head. From his sleep, as if on instinct, Stede’s hands shifted back around Ed’s back, holding him in-place as he let out a soft sigh.
They didn't often get these quiet morning moments together, what with their respective sleep schedules and the newly collective (delightful) chaos of rounding up one to three children on any given day. Not that Ed was complaining – he fucking loved his kids – but he did miss these small moments with Stede, the times when the noise from rest of the world didn't matter because the two of them were the only thing in each others orbit.
Ed knew what he was signing up for when he chose Stede (although he would certainly argue that there was very little real choice in the matter when it came down to it, less of a choice and more of a running head first into a brick wall sort of situation), knew that he was a package deal – the best clearance sale Ed had ever seen, really, if it gave him two extra of his favorite people for the price of the love of his life – and he certainly understood what he'd signed for when he and Stede decided to have Charlotte. He just might have just only skimmed the fine print, alright?
He lingered in Stede's warm embrace another moment, drinking in Stede's sleeping figure. He'd been sleeping better now that Charlotte was sleeping through the night again – they'd thought they'd finally been in the clear a few month ago, but just about as soon as she started sleeping alone a tooth decided to cut in, and thus ensured another several sleepless months as they did their best to comfort her through the discomfort. It worries Stede to absolutely no end when she, or any of them, really, were in such distress, especially knowing there was only so much he could do to make it better. They'd done their best to rotate shifts to help sit up with her, but even when Stede wasn't 'on duty,' so to speak, he still hadn't really been able to bring himself to rest.
But after several agonizing months of the tears and sore gums and frozen teethers,  it'd seemed that they'd finally, finally turned a corner. Stede still woke regularly through the night to check on her, seemingly on instinct alone, but those checks had been becoming fewer and further in between lately, and the past couple of weeks had given them almost entirely uninterrupted nights of sleep.
He let him stay in Stede’s embrace for another few moments, before finally deciding that if he was going to stay awake any longer he needed coffee soon. Disentangling himself from his husband, who let out a small whine in his sleep at the loss of contact, Ed quietly shuffled out of the bedroom.
Stretching as he yawned, he slowly opened the door to Charlotte’s room, careful to not make any noise as he did. He wasn’t going to wake her, he really wasn’t, but he just needed to check on her, he reasoned with himself. Just to check, just to be sure. The soft orange glow of the octopus nightlight in the corner of her room illuminated his path across the plush carpet, through which he shuffled over to her crib. Peering over the top, his heart squeezed at the sight of his daughter.

February 2023 Tour
So some of the maintenance we did on our 11 year old RV:  replace part of a rotted slide-out floor, paint the yellowed ceiling fixtures, get front seat covers, a new driver’s side window, install a microwave over-the-stove, replace the 2 house batteries, "new" mattress and just scrub and touch-up everything.  We took it to Henkel's RV Sales August 9, knowing it was off-season for RV sales. . . it is still there!  We were hoping it would sell around the time of the big RV show in Tampa, but that's been a few weeks ago. . .  It’s still in good shape; as Shorty said, “Nobody’s got any money now.”
Tumblr media
Closing on our house was July 22, 2022.  We found a G.E. dishwasher at an outlet store in Clearwater, a G.E. stove at an estate sale, and fridge, washer and dryer at Lowe's.   By the time we got the mattresses, shower curtains, and things you need to live, our first night in the house was July 29.  We still had to commute to Holiday to finish working on the RV at our tired senior pace.  We decided we're going to die here, because we're too old to move again. . . we were so worn out.  But dang, we're loving it here!
Tumblr media
We continued commuting (about 35 miles each way) to see Shorty most weeks; a few times he came up to see us at the house.
The first two things I cooked in the new house were sheet pan chicken/taters/ corn on the cob and chicken parm on the sheet pan.  After 10 years with an RV oven, I had a heuge two-shelfer and two giant sheet pans I had been dying to use.  I had been collecting recipes from Julia Pacheco, my fav You-Tube home cook, for about a year.  To Corny's (and Bob's) delight, I have been cooking up a storm!  I also started a little canning.  I have wanted sodium-free beans for a long time - and the pressure canner takes them from dried, right outta the bag to squishy soft in 40 minutes.

Corny watched and I re-watched Breaking Bad on one of the many TVs we've found in storage auctions.  This one came with a guest subscription to Netflix.  We watched "Better Call Saul".  He was Corny's favorite character.  I've always loved Bryan Cranston.  Then we watched all the Jurassic Park movies.
Here's a little tour.  The walls are a very light grey; flooring is grey vinyl:

Poco got a cute little 2' fence surrounding the patio.  Corny doesn't worry so much about him wandering away now.
Backyard visitors:  flock of 6 wild turkeys, pond turtle

Fledgling woodpecker chatted with me and clung to my leg for several minutes when I went to pick up my bedside dresser.

Without gutters yet, when hurricane Ian headed our way in September, we made two trips to a county park to fill sandbags.  Some young, energetic people took pity on us old, slow-moving, moaning people and helped us haul the heavy bags to the Jeep.  Corny made a few bucks selling flashlights and lanterns he had gotten on clearance months ago, thanks to Ian.
In November I did a big 2-week Georgia county run.  I only got the Jeep stuck once, in mud covered by leaves.  A Lumpkin County Sheriff had me out within minutes.  I have about 1/3 of GA counties to visit:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Thanksgiving Shorty brought Bob up to the house.  They arrived at 5pm; the turkey finished at 7:30pm.  I made real gravy for the first time in decades.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Corny had some kidney procedures in November, then found himself in the hospital for an infection in December.
Shorty told us on Dec. 1 he was moving "up north".  He heard rumors that Hyundai was hiring contractors to do his job so he promptly took his 3 weeks vacation.  When he went back to see if he was on the schedule, they were like "Who are you?".  He had worked there 10 1/2 years.  We were so glad they did what we couldn't - kick him in the pants so he would get a better job.  The little shit decided to move to Elkhart, Indiana to be able to afford a house of his own.  We miss him - my life has certainly changed.  I would plan all week what to bring him or ask him or tell him.  But we are very happy for him to be out on his own and experiencing real freedom for the first time.  He left for Elkhart Dec. 3 so now we just text.
We didn't have much notice, so Christmas was basically cancelled.  We went to Buffet City on Christmas Eve.   I made 4# of candied pecans to send up north and give to the neighbors and Liam - Shiloh Builders' Number Two.  They are building a house right next door which Chick, the owner of Shiloh, is going to live in part time.  They are using the garage as their office.
I threw a tapestry over the TV for Christmas.
Tumblr media
Corny scored a home run and got me a Kitchen Aid accessory that peels, cores and slices an apple all at the same time!  I made my first apple pie since I was 20-something years old.  I was always too impatient to peel apples.
Tumblr media
We continue going to storage auctions.  The latest score was an entire tub of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon cards.  I went through them all to check for the big buck$ cards.  There weren't any.  When I get back from BamaRama (GC9TB1Z) I will list them on Facebook Marketplace for prolly $20/box.

7 Practical Design Tips For An Easy-Access Wardrobe
Creating an easy-access built in wardrobes Sydney involves more than just hanging clothes and stacking shoes. It's about crafting a well-organised area that allows you to effortlessly find and retrieve your items while keeping your belongings neatly stored. A functional yet stylish layout can transform your daily routine and improve the longevity of your clothing and accessories.
The following design tips can help ensure that your space is organised, accessible, and user-friendly.
Prioritise Vertical Space for Added Storage Capacity
One effective strategy is to utilise vertical space to maximise storage. This can involve incorporating double-hanging sections or using adjustable shelves to accommodate various items. Vertical storage options also make it easier to spot what you need without sifting through stacks of items. Tall compartments for longer garments, such as coats and dresses, allow for wrinkle-free storage, while additional racks above or below can house accessories like bags or hats. By designing with height in mind, you can keep your area clutter-free and maintain easy access to frequently used items.
Install Pull-Out Racks for Shoes and Accessories
Pull-out racks can be a game-changer for storing shoes, belts, ties, and other accessories. These racks help organise small items in a way that keeps them visible and easily reachable. For instance, pull-out shoe shelves let you display your collection neatly while saving floor space, and extendable tie or belt racks can prevent these items from getting tangled. Make sure to place these pull-out features at convenient heights, where they are easy to access without bending or stretching too much. This layout not only adds functionality but also keeps your daily essentials at your fingertips.
Use Lighting to Enhance Visibility
Proper lighting is crucial for a well-organised space, especially when it comes to enclosed areas where natural light is limited. Consider installing LED strip lights along shelves or motion-sensor lights that activate when you open the doors. This helps illuminate every corner, ensuring you can see what's stored, even in deep or low compartments. Additionally, using lighting can create a more inviting atmosphere. Opt for soft, warm lights to make the space feel comfortable, while bright task lighting near mirrors or dressing areas ensures you can see your outfit details.
Incorporate Open Shelving for Frequently Used Items
Open shelving provides quick access to your everyday essentials, such as bags, hats, or folded clothing. Placing frequently used items on open shelves eliminates the need to open doors or drawers, saving time during busy mornings. To keep these open sections tidy, consider using decorative baskets or bins to group similar items. This approach allows you to maintain an organised look while still having everything you need within arm’s reach. When arranging open shelves, place the most used items at eye level for maximum convenience.
Add Hooks and Pegs for Hanging Smaller Accessories
Hooks and pegs are perfect for hanging accessories like scarves, necklaces, or even handbags. Strategically placing these on the interior sides of the doors or walls can free up shelf space while keeping your accessories visible and easy to grab. Using hooks of different sizes for different purposes, such as larger ones for bags and smaller ones for jewellery, can help customise the layout to suit your needs. This not only organises your accessories but also prevents them from getting lost or damaged in drawers.
Opt for Sliding Doors to Save Space
Sliding doors can be a practical choice for smaller rooms where space is a premium. Unlike traditional doors that swing open, sliding doors don’t require extra clearance, allowing you to maximise the surrounding space for other storage solutions. Choose mirror-panelled sliding doors for a dual-purpose design that reflects light and creates the illusion of a larger area. This not only saves space but also adds a sleek and modern touch. Ensure the sliding mechanism is smooth and durable to provide hassle-free access over time.
Plan Compartments Based on Your Lifestyle
Customising compartments based on your daily routine can significantly enhance the functionality of your storage space. If you regularly wear suits, include enough hanging space with special features like a pull-out valet rod for coordinating outfits. If you have a large shoe collection, ensure there are multiple shelves with adjustable heights. Consider dedicating separate sections for casual and formal wear, or seasonal items, to keep the space organised. Planning based on your lifestyle allows you to create a more personalised and user-friendly layout.
Designing an easy-access storage space goes beyond aesthetics; it involves thoughtful planning to ensure functionality and convenience. By considering aspects like vertical storage, pull-out features, proper lighting, and space-saving door solutions, you can create a storage area that caters to your needs and enhances your daily routine. Organising your area with practical design tips can transform how you interact with your belongings, making getting dressed a seamless and enjoyable experience.

How to Choose a House Demolition Company in Dubai
Here are some points to follow while choosing a House Demolition Company:
Make a clean plan – The first thing to do is to make a clear plan. What do you want to achieve, and how? It would help if you made this plan before approaching any demolition contractor. If you have a plan, you will talk to the company very confidently about the task you need them to work on.
Establish ClearTimeline – Another thing you need to investigate is the clarity of timelines professional demolition contractors give. Looking at their project delivery experience according to their schedule timelines is beneficial. Moreover, here, you can maintain quality.
Experience – It is essential to check the Contractors’ experience. Moreover, check their previous testimonials, portfolios of work completed, and, most importantly, safety records. When reviewing these, carefully look at previous customers’ points of approval and discontent.
Remove Debris From The Job Site – After demolition, cleanliness is a very arduous task. Choose a company that takes pride in their work and automatically provides a cleaning-up service. This job is a task on its own rather than an added expense you want to take on after the demolition. It includes making the land secure and hazard-free before any construction can begin.
Check the Equipment – It is essential to check the equipment first, even if your demolition contractor is professional and more experienced. It will be a waste of money and time if they lack updated equipment to match your home.
Get an demolition quote to get started
Our team of experts is always available to help. We even take care of disposing of all the leftover materials once the demolition is complete. With hundreds of successful projects under our belt, we are fully committed to ensuring the satisfaction of each and every one of our clients.

My father knew the inside scoop. My Dad, Butch Sheffield, was with the SR 71 program from cradle to grave and wrote down in his unpublish book some of his reasons why it was canceled prematurely.
During the Carter Administration, 1977-81, while Stansfield Turner was Director of the CIA, the two of them made a decision to rely upon National Technical Means (NTM) or Spy Satellites for intelligence.
Why? It did not collect Communications Intelligence’s (COMINT)! It went too fast for COMINT. Ninety percent of NSA executives came from a COMINT background. They thought that COMINT was the only kind of intelligence that was useful.
These types of messages were never followed up with the truth, from NSA, that they had been wrong. They often were.
The cost of this, National Tactical Means (NTM) has never been made public; in fact, most people with security clearances inside the government don’t know the cost. I knew because I I knew because I got a copy, one of twelve printed each year by the NRO, telling the real cost of: the satellite, the launch cost, the communications cost and the ground station cost.
The cost was enormous. The NRO did not want to give me the book. I knew it existed and asked for it. Finally, they gave it to me after I pressured the Director when I worked for the U S Congress.
One might ask how did this affect the SR-71? The answer is that once this very large amount of money was being spent on satellites, they no longer wanted to fund the SR—the SR then went from a National collection platform to a tactical intelligence asset.

This blog will help you track how to remove garage dust in London to guarantee that your space is flawless and entirely operational.
Why Dusting Your Garage is Essential:
Health Benefits:
Dust build-up can cause numerous health complications, particularly in those who suffer from allergies or respiratory problems. Ordinary dusting can go a long way in helping protect against these threats, making your garage air nice and clean.
Increased Space and Utility:
A dusty, cluttered garage will certainly not be usable. Your garage can be utilized as storage, for hobbies or even an extra room by just freeing up space with dust removal and organization.
 Improved Aesthetics:
A clean garage looks better. And if you plan to use it for parking, storage or work space a dust-free environment can make a big difference.
The Process of Dusting Garage Removal in London:
Step 1: Initial Assessment
Evaluate your garage from top to bottom This is why at TWG Cleaning Services, when we clean your home or office, a detailed inspection helps us understand the extent of dust that has collected and clear up space full of clutter. This allows us to identify the right procedure in your London dusting garage removal.
Step 2: Decluttering
Declutter the room before you start dusting. A part of this would be to address the things that won't pay you anymore and then organize those which hopefully will. We like to divide items into 3 groups: keep, donate, and toss. Doing this also makes your garage usable in a much better way and makes dusting much easier.
Step 3: Dusting and Cleaning
With the garage decluttered, we move on to dusting.
This involves:-
Ceilings and Walls: Dust often builds up on tall surfaces. To clean windows that are high up, we utilize extendable dusters and micro-fibre cloths, which are excellent for cleaning those out-of-reach areas.
Flat Surface Items: Flat surface items such as books are removed, dusted and the area on which they rest is cleaned.
Floors: This area is the place where dust and dirt get accumulated in the garage floor. First we sweep and vacuum the floor to get rid of any other dirt that is on the floor, then mop it to make sure it's well cleaned.
 Step 4: Deep Cleaning
To leave your garage in perfect condition, we will be happy to deep clean every inch of it for you. This means wiping windows, rinsing down doors and sweeping every dark hole of the house. You can trust our team to use Eco friendly cleaning products that are safe for your family and pets.
 Step 5: Organizing
After dusting and cleaning, the next step is organizing your garage! You can get storage options from us so those things should not be anywhere on the flooring as well as producing even more vertical area. Shelves Boxes with labels- are also very useful.

Personalized Consultation And Planning
A personalized consultation is one of the first steps when engaging with a house cleanout company.
During this consultation, expect a detailed discussion about the scope of work, which includes identifying areas to be cleaned out, items to be removed, and any specific requirements you may have. This stage is crucial for planning and ensures that the company can effectively tailor their services to meet your needs.
Professional Sorting And Categorization
House cleanout companies excel in sorting and categorizing items to streamline the process. This professional approach is particularly valuable in homes filled with everything from vintage collectibles to modern furniture. Expect the team to handle items carefully, categorizing them into keep, donate, recycle, or dispose of piles.
This method makes the cleanout process more efficient and ensures that valuable or sentimental items are handled appropriately.
Efficient And Safe Disposal
Proper disposal of items is a significant part of any cleanout project. Debris removal companies San Francisco adhere to local regulations regarding waste disposal and recyclables.
Additionally, many companies prioritize eco-friendly practices, recycling as much as possible and minimizing the amount of waste sent to landfills. This is particularly important in a city known for its environmental consciousness.
Timely And Professional Service
Time is often of the essence when it comes to cleanouts, especially when dealing with a property sale or transition. From scheduling to completion, expect high professionalism and respect for your time.
Most companies offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate your availability, ensuring the cleanout is completed as smoothly and quickly as possible without disrupting your daily life.
Comprehensive Pricing And Transparent Quotes
Reputable cleanout companies provide a clear and comprehensive pricing structure before starting any work. Having a transparent quote is essential where costs can vary widely.
Expect the company to offer a detailed breakdown of costs, including any additional fees for special services or items requiring special handling.
This transparency helps avoid unexpected charges and ensures you can budget accurately for the cleanout project.
Conclusion
Choosing a house cleanout company in San Francisco means opting for a service that combines efficiency, professionalism, and environmental responsibility.
