When visiting New York it’s tempting to pick your favorite spots or popular places around the city but you may find yourself bouncing all over town rather than taking advantage of what is in the neighbors you are staying in or planning to spend your day. Below is an extensive guide to all things Uptown and Midtown including where to stay, eat, shop, and experience!
Uptown

New York Public Library
As NYC rapidly flourished during the 19th century, the wealthy agreed that if NY was to be one of the world’s great cities, it ought to have a great library. Governor Samuel J. Tilden, a very affluent man, requested upon his death that the bulk of his fortune, about $2.4 million should be used to establish and maintain a free library and reading room in New York City. There were two other libraries at the time but neither was what Tilden had envisioned and both were experiencing financial hardship, so the resources were combined and The New York Public Library was formed. 16 years after the plan was set into place the library opened in the spring of 1911. It is said that between 30,000 and 50,000 people visited the building on the first day it was open. The beautiful main branch is still open today along with 91 other branches. The main building on 42nd Street is a beautiful place to visit with its large lion statues welcoming you in and its stunning architecture inside and out!

In this guide, we'll explore essential steps and considerations to help you choose the ideal venue for your next event in the Big Apple.
Understanding Your Event Needs
Before diving into venue selection, it's crucial to clearly define your event needs and objectives. Consider the following aspects:
. Event Type and Theme
Understand the nature of your event, whether it's a corporate conference, gala dinner, wedding reception, or a product launch. Align the venue's ambiance, layout, and amenities with your event theme and objectives.
. Attendee Capacity
Estimate the number of attendees expected at your event to ensure the venue can accommodate comfortably. Factor in seating arrangements, stage or presentation space, networking areas, and amenities like restrooms and parking.
. Budget Constraints
Establish a realistic budget for venue rental, catering, audiovisual equipment, decorations, and other event essentials. Consider venues that offer value for your budget while meeting your event requirements.
Location and Accessibility
. Centralized Location
Choose a venue located in a central or easily accessible area within NYC to facilitate attendee travel logistics. Consider proximity to airports, public transportation, hotels, and major landmarks for convenience.
. Parking and Transportation
Ensure the venue offers sufficient parking facilities or nearby parking options for attendees arriving by car. Evaluate public transportation accessibility, such as subway stations, bus stops, or shuttle services, for guests using mass transit.
Venue Amenities and Features
. Space Layout and Flexibility
Evaluate the venue's layout, room configurations, and flexibility to accommodate your event's activities, including presentations, networking sessions, dining, and entertainment.
. Audiovisual Equipment and Technology
Check for in-house audiovisual equipment, lighting systems, Wi-Fi availability, and technical support to ensure seamless event execution, especially for presentations, live performances, or multimedia displays.
. Catering Options
Review catering options offered by the venue, including menu selections, dietary accommodations, beverage services, and catering staff support. Customizable menus and tasting sessions can enhance the overall guest experience.
Reputation and Reviews
. Venue Reviews and Testimonials
Research online reviews, testimonials, and ratings from past clients or event organizers who have used the venue. Evaluate feedback on venue facilities, staff professionalism, event coordination, and overall satisfaction levels.

Crystal Clear
A/N: Here’s some fluff, friends to lovers I’ve had going on while I work on something bigger :))
----------------------------------------
“Y/N,” a strange man calls my name. I look him up and down but I don’t think I know him.
“Who’s asking?”
“Y/N, it’s me? Harry.”
“Oh,” I laugh and greet him how I would have if I’d recognized him under all those layers, in a great big hug. “Your disguise is brilliant!”
“It’s not a disguise,” he says into his coat. “It’s bloody cold here.”
“Coldest day so far,” I accept the hot chocolate from the vendor and ask him for another, Harry could use one, poor thing. His plans this week were changed last minute, and since he was in New York City where his best childhood friend lived, he decided to actually hang out with me. Ever since he got famous, it was hard to catch time with him.
“Did the cold freeze all the English out of you? You’re not even wearing mittens,” Harry accepts his own cup from the vendor.
“I’m got them in my pocket,” I point to the bulge on the side of my coat as we step aside and make our way deeper into the winter festival that was at Bryant Park. “Don’t insult me, I can still make a better cup of tea than you ever could.”
“There she is,” I hear the smile in Harry’s voice more than I see it. It truly was ridiculous--not only was he wearing the thickest parka I’d ever seen, he also had on a beanie and a scarf, as well as knit gloves that held tightly to his hot chocolate.
“I’m always here, you’re just too busy to see me.”
“Not this again,” he groans. I was always giving him grief every time he touched down to NYC but didn’t pop by for a visit. I knew he had a hectic schedule, and even though I wasn’t that bothered I still liked to tease him.
“It’s true, you come to the city so often but I see you once a year. And maybe again when I’m in London if I get lucky.”
“I’m busy Y/N, I talk to you all the time!”
“I know,” I elbow him. “I just like to rile you up.”
“Well now that you’ve got that out of your system,” he tugs my hat over my eyes. “Where are we going next?”
I push it back up, “I thought we could just wander the shops, then get on the skating rink if you’re not frozen to death.”
“Alright I’ve got to pick some gifts up anyway let’s see what’s here.”
We make a good team as we visit stands selling ornaments and kitschy decor, handmade gifts, and hot cider. We sift through exactly what we might want, or what the other’s looking for. And with the light dusting of snow coming down, and the bright lights strung around the Park, it was like walking in a Christmas movie.
“Look at this,” I point ahead. We’d nearly visited all the stands and holiday shops but a festive psychic advertises their services in a small glass booth. “Should we?”
“It’s a waste of money,” Harry scoffs. “She’s just going to read your body language.”
“She might be the real deal-”
“You can’t be serious-”
“C’mon!” I tug his gloves hand and it takes a few but he stumbles towards me. It’s slightly warmer inside and I notice the space heater running in the corner. “At least it’s warm” I whisper to Harry.
“You really want to do this?” He asks one last time.
“It’s just $10-”
“$20 for the two,” the woman almost shifts out of the wall and I hide my jump with a laugh. There’s a curtain behind her, I realize, she must have stepped out.
“It’s just me,” I clarify.
She eyes Harry and Harry eyes her back. “You look familiar.”
“Just have that face,” he shrugs, burrowing into his scarf. “I’m just here to watch.”
She stares at him a moment longer before settling at the small table. I flash Harry a smile before sitting down myself, setting my bags onto the floor.
“Palm reading, cards, what will it be dear?” The psychic asks. I remember the sign out front said cards would be more than having my palm read so I opt for the cheaper option.
“Hm,” she says thoughtfully as she traces the lines on my palm. I wriggle my eyebrows at Harry and he rolls his eyes, but he stays watching her like a hawk. It was cute how overprotective he got sometimes. The psychic glances up to catch him watching her, she then glances at me and tilts her head.
“I see longevity, in life and love, a few bumps but you’re a strong persistent woman.”
Harry grumbles behind me and I resist the urge to say something to him.
“I see success after hard, hard work. But a big success that will change the course of your career.”
“Wow, how soon?” I ask.
“Mmm, after a big milestone. Turning 30?” she continues to examine my hand. “I see a second life later in life, with kids...just one no maybe two children.”
“How about her love life?” Harry asks. “Her last love s’not too nice.”
“Seriously Harry?” I turn to glare this time. He’s grinning with flushed cheeks, knowing it was a sore spot he liked to say i told you so to. It was true, he had told me so about my 3 year relationship but I’d ignored him.
“Your love life,’ the woman speaks up. “Shows me two great loves. One cuts short, the other is as long as your life line.”
“Ooh,” I lean in, interested. “I think I know about the one that was cut short. Tell me about the second!”
“This second...” she traces my palm and I feel a tingle. “This second love is very close, a bit rocky but it will last.”
“A bit rocky?”
“Hm,” she chews her bottom lip. “Time, distance...it will make it rocky. But it lasts.”
“So how close is close?” I ask eagerly.
“Close,” she says with a smile that tells me I wasn’t getting anything else out of her.
“That’s a bit vague isn’t it?” Harry pipes up from the back.
“The future isn’t always crystal clear,” she says without looking up at him.
“Lay off,” I scold him.
“It’s okay, I get nonbelievers all the time.” She laughs. “That will be $10 dear.” When I hand her the bill she stops me as she takes it. “A little free advice?”
“Sure.” I pick up the bags I placed on the floor earlier.
"Don’t be so focused on the life you want that you don’t see the life you have around you.”
“I’ve actually told her that before,” Harry decides we want more of his unsolicited opinions. “Maybe there is something true to all of this.”
“Thanks,” I pocket her words for later. Harry was right, he’d said something along those lines to me before, especially when it came to giving up control and going with the flow on trips and events with him. I always declined his offers, we lived a modest life growing up and accepting these gifts from him always felt so excessive. I wanted to make my own way in the world, but Harry always had something to say. “And sorry for his attitude, he’s not always this rude.”
“Yeah,” Harry shifts forward. “I didn’t mean anything by it, I’m a lot nicer usually.”
“I know,” she smiles.
“She’s psychic,” I remind him.
“I’m also online,” she laughs. “Can I get a picture?”
Harry eyes me, before going in for a selfie with her. I know he usually didn’t mind getting asked in smaller settings but he’d admitted it was something he was still getting used to. It had been a couple years since he became so famous, in such a short amount of time I went from being able to go down to a local pub with my best friend to schedules and security details and a whole other list of complications. Sometimes I hated it, mostly I was happy for him.
“Another day, another fan.” I tell Harry after we walk away from the psychic and he flips me off. “Should we get something to eat and get out of the cold?”
“God yes,” Harry shivers. “Can we just go to yours?”
“Let’s go,” I loop my arm through Harry’s.
Harry wants instant warmth so he hails a cab and we pick up takeout once we reach my neighbourhood. Harry had been here a few times, my roommate had gotten used to the fact that I was best friends with him, and sometimes he preferred to stay here when he wanted to be anonymous. Paparazzi sometimes crowded outside his hotel when word leaked he was there.
We eat ourselves into a food coma and Harry decides to stay the night, not wanting to face the cold again. Since our living room couch sprained his neck the only time he’d slept there, he usually crashed in my bed. His head barely hits the pillow before he’s snoring, I guess the jet lag finally caught up.
***
I jerk out of sleep, a crashing noise followed by swearing catches my attention.
“I think your roommate dropped something,” I hear from beside me. I turn my face to get a facefull of Harry’s thigh tattoos.
“Y’think?” I croak and shift backwards to see his face. He’s sitting up in bed and scrolling through his phone.
“Guess which psychic is officially internet-famous?” Harry asks dryly.
“Hm?” I’m still calming my heart from waking up so suddenly so it takes a moment to register Harry’s words. “What?”
He shoves his phone in my face, the selfie he took with the psychic yesterday is posted on social media with over half a million likes. He swipes away and a lot of his tag is filled with news outlets and fan accounts spamming the picture. He pulls it back to read a heading: “Harry Styles visits Psychic for ideas on his next album. There’s also Harry Styles rumored to be connected to the Occult...I don’t know what that means. Psychic tells all on Harry Styles reading.”
“How did that picture circulate?” I rub my eyes and sit up beside him. “And where is all of this coming from?”
“She has a Twitter, and she posted the picture.” He shows me, it’s there with the caption A handsome face showed up to my booth at the Bryant Park Market tonight. Get your future told, 5pm to 9pm 7 days a week.
I can’t help but laugh, she was a business woman and she really took the opportunity to sell her service.
“It’s not funny Y/N,” Harry looks furious so I cover my mouth and squint at his screen as he scrolls. A ton of people are responding asking about his future or what he came there for. Amongst them, she responds to only one person: His love life was involved.
My jaw drops, “That’s such a lie! She read me my love life, and life lines!”
“I told you she was a fraud,” Harry jerks the phone back to him.
“She lied for sales, but doesn’t mean she didn’t tell the truth yesterday.”
“If she lied about this she lied about it all and you wasted $10. She only talked about your love life, not mine...”
I remember her words, my second love was very close...could she have meant...
I glance at Harry and he seemed to have followed the same train of thought because we lock eyes, his probably just as wide as mine.
“D’you think?” he says just as I say “Was she...?”
We immediately burst out laughing as the tension comes to a head and bubbles over in a safe trickle.
“Is that what she was trying to say?” I say when I’ve finally caught my breath, my stomach hurt from laughing this hard.
“I guess when she said close she meant close,” Harry’s flat on his back from laughing. “Quite literal.”
“And you were calling her out on being so vague.”
“I’ve got to give it to her,” he shuts his phone off and throws it onto the covers between us, releasing the annoyance. “She’s a good businesswoman.”
“I was thinking the same thing but I thought you might kill me if I said that,” I admit.
We lay on the rumpled covers in silence, I think about everything else she said. The potential of it all is tarnished by the idea of Harry being my second love, for life. It was so ridiculous, unless by love she meant the way I love him now. As my best friend. Our lives were so different, there was no way it could ever work. Not to mention...he was my best friend since forever.
“Have you ever thought about it?” Harry asks out of the blue.
“Thought about what?” I prop myself on my elbow.
“Us, like...the way she predicted?”
“Together together?” I can’t help but laugh. “No never, you’re my best friend!” I recognize the flash of hurt so I backtrack a little. “No offense Harry, I love you but could you imagine?”
“I have,” he says it so quietly as I lay back down. “What?” I ask. He shrugs, “I’m surprised you haven’t. We’ve been friends since...we were 7. You’re saying you never thought about it?”
“No,” I shake my head. “Actually I haven’t. When...what did you think about?”
“I dunno,” he fiddles with his rings. “Like for school dances, when I didn’t have a date I thought about asking you as more than a friend...thought about where that could lead. Or every time you had your heart broke. I wanted to take the pain away and just show you what you deserved.”
“Harry I...” it was sweet, what he was saying. But he never gave a single clue about it the entire time we grew up. He was always chasing girls who looked nothing like me, so I always thought that’s what his type was. Never did I think about anything more with him.
“Not-not recently though,” he forces a laugh. “Just when we were kids.”
“That’s sweet Harry. I had no idea.”
He shrugs, and sits up.
“No seriously I...that’s so sweet. But just so you know, you have shown me what a good man can be. Just by being the best friend ever.”
“Aw,” he swipes my cheek as he gets up. “That’s cute. I don’t know if I’ve done such a good job when you’ve only dated knobs.”
I could recognize his defense mechanism--turning it into a big joke. But he leaves the room before I can call him out and I’m left sitting in the mess of what he’d just told me. It’s not that it was awkward or a bad thing, but suddenly it felt tense and the tension triggered an anxious feeling in my chest.
I decide to get out of my room and find my roommate cleaning up the remains of her broken mug. I offer to clean the spill as she dresses to go out for her run. Helping her distracts me, and when I hear Harry leave the bathroom I lock myself in, and try some breathing exercises to clear the anxiety creeping up. When I realize I was trying to avoid Harry, I scold myself. This was ridiculous and funny! Harry wanted to ask me out when we were kids, it was cute, and that was it. The psychic was a fake anyway, nothing she said meant anything.
I head back to my room where Harry’s made the bed. I change into trousers and my favourite fisherman sweater, and find him having coffee at our small kitchen table with his phone on speaker as he talks to someone. His legs barely fit underneath, so they’re sprawled to the side. He’s still shirtless, and my attention snags on his torso.
I shake myself out of my thoughts as I bump into the kitchen island, and glance up to see that although he was talking to the person on the phone, his eyes had been on me...while my eyes were on his abs. Oh god, I cringe. I try to act casual, mouthing if he wanted breakfast but he shakes his head and points to the call he’s having.
I make myself a toast and try to ignore what just happened but it only adds to the tension from this morning. When he gets off his call he brings his cup up to the sink.
“I think I need another cup.”
“Be my guest,” I move aside. “You sure you don’t want breakfast?”
“Are you going to feed me avocado flax seed quinoa toast?” he teases.
“There’s no quinoa.” I correct, crossing my arms. “But...yes.”
“I’ll take this banana,” he holds the lone banana on the counter. “I’ve got to be in East Harlem by noon, that’s what the call was about.”
“Aw,” I hated saying goodbye. “Are you busy the rest of your stay?”
“I can make it back here,” he says.
“Do whatever you need to do,” I say. “I’m used to being discarded after you hang out with me in the city.”
“I don’t do that!” he reaches behind me to slot his cup in and set the machine to grind his beans. I can smell my shampoo on him, he must’ve showered. “If you want me back, you can just say that.”
The morning sunlight streaming through the kitchen window leaves no room for shadows; the shift in the mood is clear as the daylight streaming in. Or maybe I was reading too much into his words.
“I always want you back,” I look up to his height now that he’s standing so close, and the kitchen tightens further.
We’re stuck in a tableau; with my back against the fridge looking up at him as he gazes down with a curious expression. My mind grows blank the longer I stare. No one says a word, the sound of beans grinding the only noise in the kitchen.
My best friend in the whole world looks torn standing in front of me like this, and as my senses slowly rush back I realize that even if my expression doesn’t show it...I was torn. Because out of nowhere, all I can think about are all the questions I ever shoved away in the dark: what would it feel like if I kissed him right now? And what would have happened to us if he had asked me out to our school dance? Would we still be best friends? Would we have cut each other out? How many universes were we still good together like this? How many universes were we good together as more than this?
An urge to touch his face, make sure this was real, takes over me. But as soon as my fingers brush his cheek he snaps out of his trance and stumbles back like I’d burned him.
He forces a laugh. “I really do need that coffee.”
“Right,” I turn to the machine to put the grinds into their slot but I yank too hard and the freshly ground coffee flies out towards me. “Shit!”
“What happ-” Harry takes one look at what’s happened and turns away, his shoulders shaking.
“I can see you right in front of me laughing!” I shout. “Help me!”
“It’s all over you Y/N,” he turns around, tears in his eyes. “Give me this, I’ll put it far away from you.” He takes the remaining grinds and sets it down. I brush away what’s closest to my eyes so I can see and try to shake it off my sweater but they stick to the fibers of the knit.
“Great,” I grumble. “This is dry clean only.”
“It’s in your hair,” he runs his fingers through the strands that hang over my shoulder. I shake my head to dislodge the grinds; his fingers brush my neck away and tucks my hair behind my ear. “Uhm, that should be most of it.”
“It’s not out of this sweater,” I pout. “Screw dry clean, why did I think I could buy dry cleaning clothes?”
“I can drop it off on the way out today?” he offers.
“That means you’re coming back to drop it off to me?!” I ask hopefully.
His expression softens, “Y/N I’m coming back to your flat. I promise.”
“He promises!” I shout. Even though things were a bit awkward this morning, I got to spend more time with my hard-to-catch best friend and for that I was over the moon.
“We could also try to vacuum the sweater?” Harry suggests.
“So you don’t have to come back with dry clean?” I tease. “I’m not letting you get out of your promise, let me give it to you before you change your mind.” I tug my top off and ball it up, shoving it in his hands. It falls to the floor when he doesn’t hold it.
“Hello?” I look up and he’s a deer in the headlights. “Harry...”
“I can’t do this right now,” he takes a step back. I get the sweater from the ground and hold it out to him again.
“Do you want to wipe the kitchen floor with the sweater too? Take it!” I sigh. “Harry are you really acting so chaste about seeing a girl in her bra?”
“It’s-” he decides to stop mid-word. “You’re not just any girl Y/N, I’ve already made it clear.”
Now it’s my turn to stare--he hadn’t made it clear. “You said you only felt something when you were younger...”
“And you believed me?”
I realize I didn’t, but I wanted to believe him so I hadn’t questioned it. “Well it’s not the first time you’ve seen me in a bra. Can you take the damn sweater?”
“Yeah I can I’m just...” he seems to calm down a bit, enough to step towards me and take it. “I didn’t have to face this conflicted feeling in me if I didn’t see you often. I can just be the best friend. But now, with the whole psychic thing and you in--like this in your kitchen and I--I’m remembering how much I just want to...”
“Kiss me,” I say.
“Yeah...” he looks away.
“No, I’m telling you to kiss me.” I clarify. His expression would’ve made me laugh if my heart wasn’t beating so fast. I couldn’t believe I was being this impulsive.
“Really? You’re not just saying that cuz of this morning?”
“Fine,” I step out of his reach and cross my arms to hide my shaking hands. “If you don’t want to kiss me-”
He pulls me back too quickly and I bump into his chest. “I never said that.” He says in a tone I’d never heard from him before, it’s serious and sexy and it sends tingles through my body. I press myself up against him and he finally, finally, kisses me. Every bit of tension and anxiety the day had built up releases in the single moment his lips cover mine.
How had I waited this long?
The kiss is gentle, delicate like he’s still not entirely sure I want the same thing he does. I show him I do by using my tongue to open his mouth slowly and the hesitation disappears immediately. We’re a fighter jet taking off from there; I don’t know where I end and where he begins as he walks me to the kitchen island and lifts me onto it, our limbs tangling together, His hands roam down the side of my body, but he stays in the safe zones until I unclasp my bra.
“Oh hell no,” my roommate’s voice interrupts us from behind. I hold my bra close and turn. She stands at the entryway, shaking her head. “Not here. Not on our kitchen island. You two have a room literally 10 feet away...”
“Oops,” I say quietly which seems to set Harry off. My roommate is still shaking her head but I see the smile on her face. I’d caught her hooking up on multiple occasions so it wasn’t anything new. But I didn’t do this often. I jump down, apologizing to her. “Harry’s going to clean the coffee off the floor...I-I’ll find a shirt.”
“Mhm,” she closes her bedroom door and I look over at Harry who’s crouching on the floor in tears.
“This is all your fault!” I whisper but he tugs me down to where he is and holds my face as he kisses me.
“I know you two aren’t behind the island,” my roommate’s voice comes out again. I stay there as her footsteps move to the bathroom and the door closes behind her.
“I hate you,” I skirt out of his reach, and rush to my room yelling another sorry as I head back and find a top. Harry appears in my room as I put it on.
“I guess that was a good time for her to walk in on before it got too far?” he still has a stupid grin on his face.
“I don’t even want to think about it,” my cheeks were burning and even more so that Harry was elated.
“I’ve actually got to head out now.”
I pout but he kisses my pout instead. He promises he’ll be back in the evening and I let him go with one more kiss, my mind catching up with everything that just happened.
Oh my god.
***
It’s nearly 8 by the time I’m done running all my errands--taking holidays off for work was usually a good decision for me. I had a big family and picking up all the holiday bits before I flew back home was always a big job. I take an Uber home, I couldn’t handle a 40 minutes trip back home carrying everything home on the subway.
I call out to my roommate when I get in but she doesn’t respond. I check her door and it’s open and dark, the bathroom is also empty. She must have evening plans.
I open my door to a surprise. Harry is sprawled on my bed. He jerks awake when I settle my bags down.
“Y/N?” he squints as I turn the light on.
“How did you get in here?” I shrug my coat off.
“Y’roommate let me in before she left,” he rubs his eyes. “Didn’t mean to fall asleep...I had a whole thing planned.”
I’d gone over the whole morning during my errands, surprised and excited and nervous about this new step for us. But I continued to think about what the psychic said, our love lines extended alongside my life line. Even though there wasn’t much comfort or trust in a psychic who used a photo opp as a marketing opp, what she said had come true. And I put my faith in that, calming my nerves about this new step potentially ruining our friendship forever.
“Was that okay?” Harry sits up. “She didn’t think you’d mind.”
“Oh no that’s fine,” I unwrap my scarf and stand at the foot of my bed. “I really wasn’t sure if you were coming back.”
“Of course I would,” he reaches for my hand. “I wouldn’t leave you after this morning, I’m not that flighty.”
“Well we never really got to talk about it,” I say as I sit down. I’d texted him during the day but it never showed he read it, I wasn’t sure how to read into that; finding him passed out on my room meant he was probably on the go all day.
“Are you okay with this?” he says with such concern, I nearly tear up. This was making me way too emotional.
“I am,” I smile at my best friend in the whole world. “I just don’t want to go too fast.”
“We won’t,” he promises as he holds his arms out. I lean in towards his solid chest and he wraps his arms around me. I feel his breath on my cheek, then his lips in my hair. “I’m yours for eternity Y/N, we can take it as slow or fast as you want.”
It was a good thing to say, and I believe him entirely.
We eventually untangle ourselves to get food in us, and even though things are different, they’re also not. We still pick out the same parts of our food to give the other person, we still talk the same shit and laugh at the same jokes. But his hands grasps mine and his thumb brushes over my knuckles absentmindedly. His eyes stay steady on me as I talk like I’m someone new he’s exploring. We kiss after dinner, but we also load the dishwasher and laugh about the one time I’d managed to burn soup from a can. Eventually we end in my bedroom, where we lay together, our conversation growing quieter by the minute, the space between us growing smaller.
And even though we’d slept like this a hundred times before, it’s different now. I can feel it in every atom of my being, I was his and he was mine. And I don’t know how long it’s been like this for it to feel so easy, but accepting it was a no brainer, like accepting the sky was blue or the sun was hot. I remember the advice the psychic gave, I was following it: living the life I had around me even though it wasn’t the life I thought I would have.
There were a million things Harry and I had to figure out to make this work--I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. But I did know that it was right, it was true, and it was going to be forever.
The future may not be crystal clear, but my future with this man was.

mie!! i’m so late to the party but i absolutely loved ‘NICE’, it made me feel so warm and fuzzy <33 it’s so unique to its own and the flow of it is beyond wonderful!
what is married life like for oc and eren in ‘NICE’? is it just like before/do you have any nice!husband!eren headcanons?
AHH I’m so happy you liked it and that you took the time to come and tell me!! Married life for them... doesn’t really differ from what their lives looked like before actually hehe. They were basically married without knowing it 🙄🙄 idiots to lovers or something like that; but here are a few head canons of the months immediately following NICE!
You officially got married in Paris on the fourth, not too long after Carla’s wedding. You guys flew in some officials, checked through all the technicalities, and signed the papers right on top of the Eiffel Tower (access granted by the city of Paris upon request of one Carla Jaeger, of course).
Aside from having the most picturesque location in the world to sign your marriage certificate, there wasn’t anything lavish in celebration after that. Carla’s wedding was just three days earlier, after all, and was still the talk of the local press. You did have a small party with your friends (Jean, Armin, Mikasa, Marco, Erwin, Levi, Hange came from the Alps for Carla’s wedding) in your overly large hotel room. Just some music, room service, and lots and lots of champagne.
Eren extended your winter break vacation by two weeks for an impromptu honeymoon to the Bahamas before you went home. Let’s just say you did not leave the safe haven of your hotel room very often, except to dip into the ocean a few nights (benefits of a private beach).
After getting married, the rings swapped places; the band with diamonds previously on your pointer finger was put on a chain (a new one since Eren threw the other one on the ground 💀), and you now wear the engagement ring on your ring finger.
Eren doesn’t like it when you take off the ring (the ring being the engagement ring). The first time you were going into the water, you were going to put it on the chain for safekeeping, but he protested very strongly. He would rather it rest safely in your suitcase than go around your neck again.
Your wedding bands are actually very similar to the band you already have: gold and diamond encrusted. Eren’s, however, has an emerald in the center, like the two emeralds that serve as the pistils of the sunflowers in your engagement ring (for reference, that ring looks something like this, but with a gold band). The bands were the first thing Eren bought when you guys got home.
Your friends in Dubai (Ymir, Reiner, Annie, Connie, Sasha) had no idea that you and Eren got married over winter break. Safe to say they were all… very surprised to hear the news. Connie was a little bit bitter because he missed it, and wolf whistles every time he sees your ring (even though he’s seen it before because you wore it on the necklace every day).
You got married in January, but have an official wedding in the process of being planned sometime around late summer/early fall. Carla insisted that you guys have a wedding despite already being married, and Eren agreed whole heartedly. They are both very into planning it, and yes, Eren is somewhat of a bridezilla, and his mom is enabling him 100% please.
The night you signed the wedding papers, Carla lent you an off-white satin couture gown from one of her past collections. She is designing and making your official wedding dress by hand, with the help of Mikasa.
The two of them are also making Eren’s suit, and all the outfits for your wedding party. Carla will murder you if you even so much as hint at just buying other suits/dresses. This is her baby’s wedding, and she runs one of the most renowned fashion houses of the modern century; she’ll be damned if you guys wear something off the rack.
You considered a destination wedding, but settled on having it in New York. You haven’t decided a location yet, and it’s the one thing Eren isn’t actually picky about (because you know he’s gonna go ham on the decor no matter where it is bye).
Jean doesn’t know it yet, but he’s your maid of honor. Good luck and best of wishes to Eren picking between Mikasa and Armin for best man.
Even before confessing and getting married, Eren never slept much in his own bedroom. You both have California king sized beds in your rooms, and more often than not, Eren would sleep with you in your bed. You didn’t always cuddle, but he just liked to be there (for your presence, and because he was grossly in love bye)… you ended up cuddling a lot of the time tho.
He wants to renovate your apartment now that you both “officially” live in the same bedroom, even though it’s not necessary. He just likes renovating things.
You guys go to dinner every weekend, and sometimes you even go dancing. Eren still can’t dance and he doesn’t actually care to learn; it just reminds him of being in Nice with you.
He kisses your ring finger every morning waking up and every night before going to bed; sometimes he even does it subconsciously in his sleep.
He holds your hand way more often. Not just because you guys are together now, but because he likes seeing the ring where it’s meant to be. He also notices that it helps to curb your anxiety, which is a good bonus.
Eren wants kids, but he hasn’t really brought it up yet. He knows you both are fairly young, and that you’re still technically in school, but that’s not really a deterrent for him.
The only reason he’s waiting to say something is because you guys have a lot going on with wedding planning and settling in to “married life”—there’s a lot of tedious paperwork to be done and documents to update. He’ll bring it up next year when all that is settled.
On the subject of school, you are still attending university, but have been eligible for graduation for a year now. You had enough credits to graduate last (the year before NICE) December, but there were a few more classes you wanted to take out of interest that hadn’t been running in past years, so you stayed for all four years. Eren picks you up from your lectures.
Eren graduated in December before you guys went on vacation. By normal standards, that’s a semester early. However, he was supposed to be in this Honors Arts and Sciences program, that should have taken him another two semesters. He decided it wasn’t worth it, and dropped the honors part, and with that, had enough credits to graduate, so he did.
A college degree is really more of an accessory for him anyway, and school was never his thing. He’s decently smart, sure, but he never enjoyed school because of the emphasis on exams; he’s more of a creative person, a dreamer if you will. The only reason he even went to Columbia was because you decided to go there.
He and you both have enough money to live more than comfortably if neither of you decided to get a job after graduation… way more than enough/ But Eren isn’t doing nothing; he’s actually sorta been working his way into the world of professional interior design, and he really loves it. You’re proud of him, and more than anything, happy that he decided to go for something he loves.
Armin and Jean also graduated a semester early. Armin’s been living with Mikasa since Connie got his own place off-campus in January. Jean is a little upset blondie is living with his girlfriend before he is, but it’s whatever 🙄if it’s gonna be anyone, at least it’s Armin.
Carla mentioned that Eren got married sometime during a NYFW interview (along with talking about her own recent marriage), and since then you both have interviewed for two magazines, one of which featured pictures from your smaller party in Paris. You’ve gotten requests from Vanity Fair and Vogue about your bigger wedding later in the year, but you guys haven’t invited any media officials as of yet.
You and Eren attend the MET Gala almost every year. You don’t walk the red carpet and nobody is scrambling to take your pictures; but you have passes because of Carla. Also, you could just buy your way in if you wanted you (and your friends have in the past). This year, Eren had to pay two security officers $10k in bribes because you two snuck away to fuck in… a part of the museum not sectioned off for the event. Whoopsies.
Even before Eren got him arrested, going out to brunch was kind of your and Armin’s thing. Eren insists he should be invited now that he’s your husband. He is not. (His bitterness grows when he learns that Jean has secured himself an invite somehow).
Eren sold the car he got arrested for drag racing in. He never told you why—and as far as transportation goes, it wasn’t a big deal because you guys have other cars—but, to him, it was a kind of symbol. He thinks it’s dumb if he thinks too long about it, but he just didn’t wanna have that there are a reminder of how he’d hurt you and his mom.
Jean still drives you to your therapy appointments, but now Eren picks you up. Eren also goes to therapy himself, and has been before you guys got married; his therapist says he’s undoubtedly happier in recent sessions… like a weight’s been lifted off his shoulder.
As far as drugs go, there’s, of course, weed on a happy occasion, or at a party; but he hasn’t touched coke since that one time (which was also the first time he’d ever done it). That’s not even him being a changed man, he just didn’t like it—he only argued with you about it because he was being stubborn. He’s more of a drinker than anything, and absolutely loves to get you drunk on a special occasion, too; he always has. He thinks you look cute, and he likes taking care of you.
You have lived in that apartment with Eren for years before marrying him, yet he insisted you needed to christen the place like it was brand new… at this point, the only places you haven’t fucked in are the elevator itself, the foyer, the storage closet, and the pool. The latter only because it’s been too cold in NYC… trust and believe pool sex is coming lmfao.
Eren bought the apartment and renovated and designed it, but he never did like being in it all alone, and that’s been magnified since you got married. If he’s there by himself, he’s usually in the living area, napping on the daybed. He waits for your faithfully every day, and is hardly in the bedroom if you’re not.
Eren has not stopped introducing you as his wife since January. Even to people in passing like cashiers and bartenders, everyone in the whole damn city probably knows you guys got hitched.

how about some mazlek going away on a nice, peaceful vacation together after the oscars so they can finally get some alone time? (let's pretend rami had some time off before going back to film mr. robot)
I am disgustingly late, dear anon! But I finally have something ready for you. Hope you don’t mind me filling this request with another one of my rambling hc posts, it felt like the best option :)
Joe doesn’t like to be predictable EVER so when he and Rami figure out they have one week of break between the Oscars and the start of Mr Robot filming, he calls dibs on being the one in charge to decide where to go on vacation
he also keeps the whole plan a secret (and he’s surprisingly good at it) (but maybe Rami being so taken with award season and shootings preparation helps him being successfully secretive)
the day after Rami’s Oscar win, at some point in the afternoon (since they slept in late to cure the afterparty hangover), they say bye to their friends and Rami’s family and Joe drives North until they reach Salt Lake City and stop for the night in a hotel
(Joe promises that’s not their destination but Rami is not worried in the least and he enjoys the drive and fastfood dinner and mostly he likes not having to worry about a thing, trusting Joe completely)
(he’s also already in an absolute state of lax and relief after months and years of incessant work and stress and having to be constantly in the public eye, doing the right thing, being always on his best behaviour)
Joe as usual makes the best out of their modest hotel room situation and prepares a warm bath for the both of them and then gives Rami a back massage all the while Rami complains he needs to relax too since he had been driving for half a day
they fall asleep in the middle of a sloppy and tired make out session and as they wake up the day after they make fun of each other for being too old and too tired to maintain a regular sex life with their kind of lifestyle
they have breakfast and then continue the journey
Rami offers to drive a bit as long as Joe tells him where to go but Joe refuses saying they’re not that far
true to his words, after a few hours that the scenery outside the car’s windows has turned white with snow and they are well beyond the border between Utah and Idaho, they park outside a nice private cottage right at the foot of the mountains
the lodge is beautiful outside and inside: there is a large living room with two couches and a fireplace, an old-style kitchen with already a few box and bags of grocery done for them and on the second floor probably the best decorated bedroom Rami has ever seen (and that’s saying something, considering he’s used to stay in some fancy hotels around the world). The best thing about the bedroom is the window and balcony, overlooking the woods and a creek of a small lake that is completely frozen in the still icy weather of late winter. The place looks pristine and clean but at the same time warm and cozy and he asks Joe how he found it but Joe refuses to give away his secret sources (probably just a late night deep dig into Airbnb’s abyss)
this leads to them bickering without malice about how it’s not nice to keep secrets in a relationship and they go on until they’re outside exploring the surroundings of the house and Joe gets hit with a snowball on the back of his head
they have a vicious snowball fight for minutes until Joe succeeds in catching Rami by his waist and rolling the both of them down a slope of fresh snow
soaked to the bones and laughing their asses off they snuggle close and kiss with frozen lips as clouds of warm breath surrounds them
getting back inside to get changed, Rami starts the fire in the living room and feeds it until Joe is out of the shower and they can switch
when Rami is back from the hottest shower he could get, all the sheets and blankets and pillows of the bedroom are now forming a perfectly structured pillow fort in front of the fireplace and Joe is pouring French red wine inside two glasses looking smug
Rami sits beside him on the fluffy floor of the pillow fort and kisses him senseless
(“You don’t know how much I needed all this.” “Oh, believe me… I do know.”)
they’re tired for the long travel and playing in the snow but they manage to make dinner and watch a movie and even christen Joe’s epic pillow fort making slow and tender love
Rami refuses to fall asleep on the floor though, so they pick up some of the blankets and sheets to make the bed upstair and fall asleep on a very soft mattress and in each other’s arms
the week goes on smoothly and easily: they make trips to local sightseeing places and visit the Yellowstone Park and they have long lazy mornings and evenings in front of the fireplace, just reading or watching TV or having the best sex they had in months
Rami is relaxed and pliant and smiles and laughs so much more and he looks so utterly in love with Joe it’s almost a trouble when they’re grocery shopping in the nearest town or surrounded by other tourists in this or that winter location
Joe can’t really seems to care about being recognised or found out at this point though, since he’s so utterly in love with Rami himself and he’d risk everything to have his beautiful man always this happy, this carefree, this lovely
(at some point there is a small accident which includes Joe and ice skating on the frozen lake but everything turns out fine and they decide, out of embarrassment, not to talk about it ever again)
before they know it’s been five days and they need to pack their things and get back, in time to catch their flight for NYC
they decide to celebrate their last day of freedom in high style (but still in THEIR style): they cook and bake together (some fancy steak recipe by Rami, some unhealthy and too buttery cookie batch by Joe), have dinner in front of the fireplace, reconstruct the pillow fort to feel more warmth and comfort, re-watch Bohemian Rhapsody (it’s kind of a cathartic moment where they relive all that came from the last year of their lives, the good and the bad things, the funny and the emotional parts of the whole ordeal), cuddle the hell out of each other
it’s right at the end of the Live Aid scene, before Don’t Stop Me Now starts playing over the last frame and titles start rolling, that Rami says: “I can’t wait for what comes next.” in a soft sigh against the back of Joe’s ear
they’re lying almost horizontally on a pile of pillows and the cushions of the couch, under white sheets creating a soft canopy over them and a warm blanket around their bodies perfectly set together: Joe is resting almost upon Rami, his back against his partner’s chest, Rami’s right hand lazily stroking his hair as he rests his left cheek on top of Joe’s head
“What’s next? Robot? Bond?” asks Joe sleepily, wrapped in the the perfect bliss of the lazy evening and Rami’s warm body around him
he turns his face just enough so that he can look back at Rami and kiss his cheek for good measure. Rami’s strokes have stilled but his fingers are still tangled in his hair
“I meant for us,” says Rami and he sounds insecure and certain at the same time, like he’s trying to process his thoughts, share a sudden epiphany with Joe
“What’s up with us?” asks again Joe, searching Rami’s eyes and leaning even more into his side. “I don’t know… I guess we’re gonna need to find a place for us? A common ground where we can be together even if we’re on different projects… we’re gonna need to find more time to spend together outside work. Match schedules, plan things…” explains his partner
“This date isn’t over yet and you’re already trying to ask me out again?” jokes Joe, smirking
“I’m… trying to ask you to marry me, actually.” smiles back Rami, unflinchingly
Joe lets out a tiny gasp and stares at him with wide eyes, opening and closing his mouth like he’s at loss of words but wants to say something back
Rami doesn’t move and doesn’t let him go, he just shift so that Joe slides between him and the back of the couch and they can lay on their sides and look into each other’s eyes as he asks, softly and lovingly: “Would you marry me, Joey?”
“Like that’s even a question!” exclaims Joe, breathlessly
“Could you still reply to it, just to clear any possible doubt?” adds Rami, trying but failing to look annoyed, stroking Joe’s cheek and neck as the other ducks his head toward him, suppressing a nervous laugh. Rami doesn’t move, he just repeats: “Joseph Francis Mazzello, will you marry me?”
“Yes I will marry you, Rami Said Malek.” he spells out slowly and looking smug: “Try and stop me.” he adds, provocatively
“I really don’t want to do that.” says Rami and they can’t contain their satisfied smile as they kiss, sealing their promises
they don’t have engagement rings to exchange (“So you weren’t planning on proposing here and now?” “Not at all. Why, were you?” “Not really…?”) so they just entwine their fingers and fall asleep holding hands, still facing each other
(yes they sleep under the pillow fort this time, sorry Rami)
the next morning they pack their things and load the car and Rami leaves a nice message to the lodge’s owners on a piece of paper on the kitchen’s countertop, while Joe promises to leave a more than positive review on Tripadvisor
they call their families to let them know there’s good news (they mostly take it well, except both Nelly and Virginia sound like they’re crying of joy and Rami feels sorry for having to tell them on the phone)(Sami and John’s reaction are both along the line of “About time! We been knew for ages” which makes sense)(Yasmine has to be stopped because she’s already suggesting plans and names for the florists and catering service recycled from her own wedding)(Mary is the family’s normal one and just congratulates them, sounding very happy)
(the next in line for a call are Gwilym, Ben and Martin)
on their way to the airport they discuss how to break the news to the rest of the world and they decide for a slow approach and a low profile
so Joe just sends out a tweet that says: “Brace yourselves, big surprises aren’t over yet” , Rami likes it and that’s it (for the time being)
(fans freak out and fandom explodes, of course)

An Arcade Grows in Brooklyn (Or At Least Is Trying To)
Perhaps it's still the case... perhaps it has always been the case.... all I know with absolute certainty is how, during a certain point, circa the early 2010s, a decent number of people were very much interested in opening and operating their very own arcade around these parts. These parts being New York City and surrounds areas.
Said individuals would, understandably, seek advice from an expert. And for reasons that may seem obvious to some, one person who was often enlisted was Kotaku's editor in chief, Stephen Totilo. And cuz it ain't quite his domain, Steve would then pass everyone along to someone more knowledgeable, that being me.
I spoke to a variety of individuals, each with their own unique vision...or so they thought. In reality, they were all essentially identical: everyone just wanted a place to hang out and play video games with their friends. They also figured that there would be enough other people wanting to same, enough to quit their day jobs and make a living off of them. To each and every one I said the same basic thing: don't do it.
Hey, I love arcades, I really do, and wish there was more of them. But I also don't like the idea of someone completely wasting away his life savings, just for a place for him and his buds to play Halo 3 or Rock Band 2 all night long. To be more exact, I don't like the idea of being someone who could have prevented such a thing from happening.
Just the other week, My Life In Gaming was in town; before swinging by Connecticut for some retro gaming con, there was a pit stop in NYC. Am assuming Coury wanted to catch up with family, being a Brooklyn native and all; perhaps to maximize his time, a meet-up was also planned. At an arcade. One that I had never heard of before.
The oddly named I Fix Machine Arcade was located in my old stomping grounds of Sunset Park, around three of four blocks away from a former residence; when I left in 2007, that part of Brooklyn was just starting to become gentrified, so I was hardly shocked to discover that the location was inside some freshly erected and ultra-trendy office loft space.
Tumblr media
Once inside the front door, I was immediately lost; as with similar spaces, you’ve got an ultra-chic decor with zero signage, cuz that would either clash or something. A guy then walked in after me, saw that I was clueless, and pointed towards the fourth floor. Where there was no arcade. This led me to going up and down the entire building (via stairs since I feared the lack of security codes would impede my search), until I finally came across it on the first floor. The door was manned by the proprietor... the same guy who led me astray. Guess I didn't look like an arcade goer or something.
Anyhow, once again: it's an arcade! In an office space! Most of the games are running off of Japanese candy cabs, Versus City machines to be exact. You also have a Neo Geo MVS, an exposed NAOMI 2 attached to a Raspberry Pi (supplying the roms) and a Sega Saturn (doing what I have no idea), a high-end PC running Steam, plus more. There's even an area for live-streaming... quite the impressive set-up.
Tumblr media
And near the entrance is a table, where the aforementioned proprietor had an open PC in front of him. Christopher is an energetic, buoyant fellow, whom I had a hard time understanding, though his enthusiasm clearly came across. I asked quite a few things and received many answers. Kinda, sorta.
My first question, of course: what's this arcade about? Christopher immediately went into his sales pitch, about it being a home for gamers, hearkening back to a time in which arcades ruled supreme, before the internet & online gaming, where you breathed the same air space with other players, yada yada yada, the same thing I've heard legit a hundred times before. I then asked, seriously, what's the deal here.
Tumblr media
First, a bit about Christopher: I was surprised to learn that he was in his mid-to-late 30s, given his youthful appearance, though even more impressive is how he taught himself to repair computers in the late 90s, before the advent of YouTube.  I'm not sure what came first, the computer repair business or the arcade, but I did discover out that he owes everything to a guy named Jose Cruz. The way Christopher reverentially addressed Jose, it was like hearing the Pope refer to Jesus Christ Himself.
At the very least, Christopher acted like I should have known who Jose was... cuz I guess he's kind of a big deal? A combination of clues and blind guesses led to the assumption that the legend of Jose Cruz was somehow connected to local fight game scene and associated territories. Specifically the original Chinatown Fair crew, which later made a home for themselves at Next Level. Speaking of, I asked if there was any competition between I Fix Machine Arcade and Next Level Arcade, and the response was a somewhat sheepish "no... not anymore”.
Tumblr media
Not long after my visit, I would discover that I Fix Machine and Next Level are in the same neighborhood, just a block away (the latter had initially chosen Brooklyn’s Chinatown as its new home-base). Again, no idea who came to the area first, but after some unspecified turf warfare, it would appear that everyone is friendly for now. I get the impression that one will go to whichever Arcade depending on one’s interest in a particular fame and the associated community built around it. I got the impression that I Fix Machine was the place for Tekken devotees.
Back to Jose: I would also discover that much of his fame... from what I was able to discover after the fact myself... is due his technical prowess. He knows his way around the back of an arcade machine and has produced a number of noteworthy mods. As such, Jose also taught Christopher everything he knows about servicing arcade cabs. I asked if, in addition to PCs, arcade games could also be repaired, since I know a few owners who might appreciate such a resource… didn’t get a straight answer. I then asked what the hours were: “2am to midnight”. I assumed he meant 2pm to midnight. Days of operation? Wednesday through Sunday. Cost of playing games? $10.
Tumblr media
While asking questions I noticed a steady stream of patrons trickling into I Fix Machine Arcade, all clearly regulars. It then hit me, the similarities between this place and all the others that had been proposed to me, which I had nixed: these customers all seemed to know each other... they were all friends, friends who were paying to hang out with each other. I suppose seeing it in action made me realize that such a business model wasn't that insidious after all. Or entirely unique; it's no different than a club house or lodge, where the members pay dues to help keep the lights on. It just so happens that the doors are opened to the general public.
Yet the question remains: how many more friends can such a place attract? I was also reminded of my initial visit to Next Level several years ago, when Henry Cen had just begun operations. Someone close to Cen at the time divulged to me plans for a Next Level in Queens after the Brooklyn location. Then another one in the Bronx. Of course there would be one in Manhattan, with NJ to follow. I wondered back then if Cen had enough friends to fulfill such a master plan. Last I heard, the move from Brooklyn Chinatown to Sunset Park resulted in a reduction of square footage.
Tumblr media
Back to Christopher: I asked how long I Fix Machine Arcade had been in business: about 6 months. I then asked how promotions were handled, and Christopher explained that he had been extolling the virtues of his haven for hardcore gamers “everywhere”: Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, Discord, etc. It’s at this point in which any objectivity as an investigative journalist began to wash away and my years as a promoter for events began to take over. I explained that online forums can only go so far… to really get the word out, especially on a local level, one had to do it the old fashioned way. And that’s the plaster the city with stickers and flyers, as well as make appearances at events. In the flesh. Places like Penny Arcade Expo, New York Comic Con, AnimeNYC, and especially MAGFest.
Christopher admitted to me that he had heard of those places, but never been to them (at least to conduct business). At that exact moment, a person who had just put down his $10 for the entrance fee also noted that he had just put down money for a MAGFest hotel room, which had just become available to the pubic earlier that afternoon. This unidentified individual told Christopher, “Hey man, it’s hype; you need to go there, tell everyone about IFM!” Christopher smiled and nodded in agreement.
Tumblr media
I figured it was time to ask the hardball questions. First… any trouble with the neighbors? Not surprisingly, other offices in the building have called the cops to complain, resulting in several visits. But Christopher glossed over the details and offered a positive spin, by saying that each visit ends with cops hanging out and playing games. Quite the positive outcome, far more so than similar visits by the fuzz to other DIY venues I’ve been at or associated with.
I asked other questions, like what was the age range of his customers (Christopher claimed between 6 to 60, which I found a bit hard to swallow) and what was the average number of customers on a given day (he stated about 10, and given the number of regulars present, I found that to be a tad bit more plausible). Eventually, it was time for the hardest question of them all: is I Fix Machine Arcade making any money?
Tumblr media
The answer was surprisingly honest and to the point, given the numerous canned responses I had been give: no. Yet... he and Jose (who I believe is the co-owner) know that it takes a year or two for any business to get its footing... or so they say. And I was told that they were ready for the road ahead. Now, given the surprise response to my inquiry about MAGFest, I have to wonder about that. Then again, I suppose things are truly only getting started.
Objectively speaking, the pieces are all there: I Fix Machine Arcade has the space, one that’s fairly accessible (it’s close by a major subway hub in South Brooklyn), it definitely has the gear (I honestly can't recall a larger assortment of Japanese arcade hardware in the Big Apple), and thus far, it has a loyal legion of customers. I hope I Fix Machine Arcade, I want it to survive, but do I believe it will when all is said and done? Well…
Tumblr media
I almost forgot: the meet-up. It was actually a combination My Life In Gaming/RetroRGB gathering. Which is also when RetroRGB sat down with Jose Cruz himself for an hour long chat, for those interested...
youtube
... I was expecting an Antiques Roadshow-type gathering, but with modded retro gaming hardware, and that's basically what I got. Here's my buddy Jessen showing off some wacky RGB mod for the Super Famicom that sends its signal via the cart?
Tumblr media
Eventually, when the party was officially in full swing of course, I remember how long my subway ride back home to the Bronx would be, so it was time to head out...

Visited the Astor Court in the St. Regis Hotel on the Upper East Side for afternoon tea with a friend earlier today. The Astor Court is the St. Regis’ main restaurant and actually somewhat smaller than I initially anticipated and probably wouldn’t fit under the traditional court size of a tearoom. However, the architecture and decor was classy and fairly sumptuous, pretty much what one would expect from a hotel like the St. Regis. My friend and I actually opted to be seated in the quieter lounge area, away from the main dining room where there seemed to be a larger party reserved. We did however, both enjoy the live harpist, and hearing the instrumental music in the background.
We got to the Astor Court right during the afternoon tea (3-5 pm daily) and the menu was fairly straightforward with my friend getting the Lady Astor’s Tea and me getting the Caroline’s Tea. Both sets consisted of freshly baked scones with a trio of: fresh lemon curd, double Devonshire cream, and seasonal fruit preserves, along with the the specialty honey that actually went well with the scones! It’s really the savories & sweets that differed between the two tea sets.
For the savory tea sandwiches, the Lady Astor’s Tea included: Scottish smoked salmon (w/lemon butter and capers on pumpernickel), lump crab salad (w/lemon vinaigrette on a brioche roll), the English cucumber sandwich (w/minted cream cheese), the egg salad with micro watercress, and a Gruyere cheese and chive quiche. On the other hand, the Caroline’s Tea included: a marinated shrimp brioche with dill & citrus vinaigrette, pacific sturgeon caviar with sour cream, chives & blini, duck prosciutto with pineapple, cilantro, truffle oil & Belgian endive, a roasted artichoke heart with goat cheese, sundried tomaoto, kalamata olive & watercress and Scottish smoked salmon on pumpernickel as well.
For sweets, the Lady Astor’s Tea included: a lemon tartelette w/toasted meringue, a dark chocolate mousse, an apple financier with hazelnut and sweet caramel, and a raspberry macaron. On the other hand, the Lady Caroline’s Tea included a pavlova with fresh fruit & lemon creme, a raspberry sacher with marmalade, chocolate ganache & sponge cake, a blackberry merigune, and assorted French macarons too.
I have to admit that I actually preferred the savory tea sandwiches in the Lady Astor’s Tea, but liked the sweets, especially the raspberry sacher in my Caroline’s Tea just fine. My friend and I both agreed that the freshly baked scones, particularly paired with the fresh lemon curd, seasonal preserves, and clotted cream tasted just divine, and we easily could have had another order of those alone. Overall, if you don’t mind the price tag which is on the heftier side for NYC afternoon tea service (the Lady Astor Tea was $65 while the Caroline’s Tea was $85), I would say coming to the Astor Court is worth splurging on for a special occasion, say like a celebration or birthday, which was the latter for me personally.

The legendary brand's initial foray into the world of luxury hotels just opened in NYC, and the home is dripping in crystal. I woke up the subsequent morning with a rainbow spanning across my bed, a result of the all-natural daylight and the glistening of Baccarat chandeliers in the room. I walked by the Baccarat Boutique at Prince’s Building in Hong Kong last week and, having stayed at the Baccarat Hotel in New York, it created me quit to admire the craftsmanship and perfection of the crystals.

City Townhouse & Country Manor
Something Different in SoHo: City Townhouse & Country Manor is now on the market at $17.995 million
Location: Soho, Manhattan, New York City, NY, USA

San Francisco artist Ken Fulk designs experiences. A member of the Architectural Digest 100, Fulk is internationally renowned for both interiors and over-the-top parties. His design concepts include top restaurants, clubs and wineries as well as celebrity homes, such as his overhaul of tech power couple Michael and Xochi Birch’s mansion.
He was the mastermind behind Napster co-founder Sean Parker’s massive medieval themed wedding in Big Sur, and Jean Paul Gartier’s bash featuring Dita Von Teese and a mechanical bull. His most recent project is a residential building in midtown Manhattan modeled after a boutique hotel, which allows residents access to Fulk’s extraordinary vision with its lobby restaurant, rooftop lounge, party planning services, weekly flower market and guest performances.
A one-of-a-kind SoHo residence designed by Ken Fulk is now on the market at $17.995 million. Located in a pre-war Beaux Arts building in Manhattan’s coveted SoHo neighborhood, the sprawling 6,000-square-foot duplex melds country manor with urban townhouse and historic with modern. As Fulk describes, “warm wood tones with accents of brass, glass and marble complement the industrial history of the neighborhood.” Fulk’s attention to detail shows in every room of the apartment, each space featuring unique colors and design choices.
Each of the residence’s two levels has its own entrance and service entrance. Downstairs, three bedrooms with bright, cherry tones and spacious en-suites, an eat-in kitchen, and a large informal living room provide plenty of space for lounging with family.
Upstairs, Art Deco accents, striking colors, and chevron floors decorate an entertainment space worthy of SoHo’s artistic reputation. An open floor plan connects the formal living and dining areas, which include a wet bar and a gorgeous built-in marble buffet. Barrel-vaulted ceilings with exposed brick enhance the chic, urban feel.
Beneath the elegant internal staircase, the master suite features a luxurious bathroom and enormous walk-in closet. Intricate chandeliers provide light to the master suite and throughout the residence. With five bedrooms and six baths, the home offers a rare opportunity to own a spacious apartment in a special New York location.
SoHo (meaning “South of Houston St.”) has a rich history, dating back to the 1600s, when the land was granted to freed slaves of the Dutch East Indies Company before New Amsterdam became New York. Famous for cobblestone streets and beautiful facades, SoHo boasts the world’s largest collection of cast iron architecture, with over 250 historic cast iron buildings preserved.
An artist’s haven in the 1970s, the region still features several notable art galleries. Modern SoHo is known for its high-end boutiques, world-class dining and some of the country’s most expensive real estate. An easy walk from Washington Square Park and New York University as well as numerous shops, restaurants, and nightlife venues.
The listing is held by Tal Alexander, Marc Riedel, Oren Alexander and Jared Schwadron of Douglas Elliman.

Tumblr media
love this family, love writing about them
A/N: Hello, hello! Thanks for showing love and support for this series, it encourages me to write more. Here’s Part 4, it’a a long one! Hope you like it. xx
Word Count: 2.13k words
Pairing: Harry Styles X Reader
Part 1   Part 2    Part 3
Y/N’s POV
“Okay, okay this one is my personal favourite hear it out,” Harry said beside me on the couch.
“For god’s sake Harry, your puns are horrible,” I sighed.
“This one is great I promise,” he said showing his puppy eyes.
“Okay fine, go ahead,” I said shaking my head.
“What did the buffalo say when his son went to college?” Harry said trying to contain his laughter.
“What?”
“Bison,” he said before laughing uncontrollably and slapping his knee.
“You’re horrible, I’m going now bye,” I said getting my bag.
“Wait why?” He asked disappointed by my reaction.
“As much as I love to hangout with you, I’m tired now I wanna sleep,” I said yawning.
I checked the clock, it was a little past 11 pm, I was here hanging out with Harry since the past couple of hours on his hotel room in Melbourne.
“Okay fine, Bison,” he said before started laughing hysterically.
“Oh god, why am I even friends with you?”
“You love me,” he said.
Oh I do, wait do I? Yeah as a friend obviously.
“Whatever loser, bye,” I said hugging him and going.
Harry and my friendship seems to be growing more and more, honestly I’m loving it so much. Cindy and Max are going great as usual, Max had to leave so I get more time with Cindy now.
“Hey,” I entered the hotel room to see Cindy facetiming Max.
“Hi, Y/N! Max said hi!”
“Hi Max!” I said cheerfully.
“Okay babe, get some sleep, goodnight.” Cindy said to Max before turning off her phone.
“What’s up bitch?” Cindy asked.
“Nothing much, what about you?” I asked.
“You like Harry,” she stated.
“Of course I do, he’s one of my best friend remember?” I said nervously.
“You know damn well you like him, you can lie to everyone but me Y/N, I know you like I know the back of my hand,” Cindy said, which I hate to admit was true.
“Well I don’t,”
“You do,”
“I-, okay fine yes I do,” I said giving up.
“Hey,” she said coming towards me and hugging me,”it’s completely okay for you to catch feelings for someone okay? You can’t control this stuffs.”
“I know Cind, it’s just that out of all people why did I have to like a guy in a relationship, that too with a model?” I mumbled sadly, making my way towards the bed and sitting on the edge.
Cindy came and sat beside me,”babe, do you want to tell him?”
“Absolutely not, we just became friends, best friends actually and I can’t let my stupid feelings get in the way, I’ll get over it,” I said trying to convince myself more than her.
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I want to have some ice-cream now,” I said forcing a smile.
“Let’s order it then, room-service here fucking rocks!” She cheered.
.
The rest of the night we spent talking eating ice-cream and watching some random tv-shows. Cindy is honestly the bestest, always knows how to cheer me up.
The next day
It was the day of Harry’s Melbourne concert, we all gathered around for breakfast on the hotel’s dining room.
“Where’s Styles?” Adam asked as he began eating.
“I don’t know, maybe he’ll be here soon,” Lou said sipping her juice.
“There he is!” Clare said smiling.
I turned around and saw Harry...holding hands with Camille.
I sucked in a sharp breathe, she was here. She looked even more prettier in person.
“Hi guys!” Harry said approaching us and taking a seat beside me, Camille taking the seat that’s beside him on his left side.
“Camille, when did you come here?” Sarah asked surprised.
“Around 2 in the morning, just wanted to surprise him,” she said smiling, kissing Harry’s knuckles.
Harry smiled down at her, kissing her forehead,”Y/N, I want you to meet Camille, Camille this is Y/N. Y/N, this is Camille, my girlfriend.” Harry said introducing her.
I coughed lightly and my voice barely came out,” nice to meet you,” I shook hands with her.
“Likewise, Harry has told me about you.”
He has talked about me?
“Good things I hope,” I say nervously smiling.
“Yeah ofcourse!” Harry said chuckling.
The breakfast felt like so long, I just wanted to go back to my room and just bury myself in a blanket, this feelings are too much.
“Uh guys, Y/N and I will go now, see y’all later,” Cindy, my lifesaver spoke.
I mentally did a happy dance,” uh yeah, see you guys later.”
“See ya!” Harry said before continuing his conversation with Camille.
.
“This was so awkward, I didn’t act suspicious, did I? God, I’m so stupid,” I rambled as soon as we reached our hotel room.
“Babe, relax, Y/N you were fine, c’mere, you okay?” She said hugging me.
“It hurt so bad,” I said letting my tear fall.
“I know, it’ll get better when you find yourself someone, I promise,” she cooed.
“Yeah,” I replied unsure, maybe she’s right if I start dating someone I might get over these stupid feelings.
.
..
We were currently backstage, everyone was so quiet today, usually it’s always fun in backstage before the concert. But, for some reason it’s different tonight, everyone is busy scrolling their phones.
I looked at Harry to see he was on the couch across from the couch I sat on, his arm were draped around Camille as he aimlessly scrolled through his phone.
“Okay band, you are due to be on stage in ten minutes, get ready,” Jeff announced.
The band began getting ready to go backstage, Harry kissed Camille quickly before coming towards me and Cindy.
“Okay guys, wish me luck,” Harry said smiling.
Cindy hugged him and wished him good luck, before he turned towards me. He hugged me extra tight tonight and even dropped a kiss on my forehead.
“Good luck H,” I said smiling, trying to ignore the extra affection he just showed.
“Thank you,” he said before going on stage.
And as expected the show was incredible as usual.
.
..
“So guys we have a party tomorrow, you guys should tag along too,” Sarah said to me and Cindy, as we were on the tour bus on our way back to the hotel.
“A party? Sounds fun!” Cindy said excitedly.
“It is fun!” Clare said equally excited, she’s precious.
“Yeah, I would love to go too,” I said happily.
“What are you guys talking about?” Harry asked before joining us, he was with Camille.
“The party tomorrow,” Lou replied.
“Oh, I don’t think I’ll go though, just want to spend some relax time with this one,” Harry said smiling, looking down at Camille.
I felt a pang of jealousy... no stop that Y/N.
“Understandable,” Mitch winked.
....
“Y/N, you look gorgeous!” Cindy gushed.
“Thanks, aw look at you, you look beautiful Cind,” I said smiling, we were getting ready for the party tonight and I actually put effort to look nice tonight.
“Thank you! Also Y/N, I have a feeling you’ll get all the boys there swooning over you,” she winked.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled, “let’s see?”
“Girls! I’m here, we will leave now are you ready-,” Sarah said entering the room.
“Oh my my, you both look absolutely stunning,” she said before quickly taking a picture of us.
“Look who’s talking,” I said winking at her.
“Let’s get going then!” She said chuckling.
We arrived at the party and holy shit it looked so great, it’s a celebs party, the place looked amazing. They had an entire table filled with desserts, another table filled with snacks and also had a bar.
“Oh God, let’s try those desserts,” Cindy said dragging me.
I laughed and followed her.
There were so many options so I opted for the fudge and it was delicious.
“Y/N, look at him, he’s so gorgeous omg,” Cindy said pointing towards a guys, and he was cute. But, Harry is cuter, stop it Y/N.
“Yeah he is,” I said.
“Let’s go talk to him, I think I saw him on telly,” she said.
“No Cind, I don’t want to talk to anyone, let’s just talk to each other,” I said with pleading eyes.
“You suck,” she rolled her eyes.
“I know,” I agreed, I’m socially awkward as hell.
We finished eating and started looking around at the decors.
“Hi,” I heard someone say behind me, I turned around and was met by stunning pair of ocean blue eyes.
He was so beautiful, and he looked around 20, he has his hair in a quiff. He was wearing a black colored suit, he was tall as well.
“Uh hi,” I said smiling.
“Have you happened to see Lou? Lou Teasdale?” He asked.
“Uh I saw her just around here,” I said searching for Lou.
“I’m so sorry, you might think I weirdo I just didn’t know a lot of people here so I just thought and you two were nearby so I thought I’ll ask,” he started rambling adorably.
I chuckled, “it’s fine,”
“Let’s find her together, we are just bored anyway,” Cindy said smirking at me, I can already see her trying to set us up. That girl.
“Are you sure, I don’t want to bother you guys?” He said.
“We are sure,” Cindy assured her and we began searching for her.
As we were walking he introduced himself to us, his name was Jason. He was currently a law student in New York. He lived in Australia but he liked NYC more, he was here since his dad was related to a music company. His mom knew Lou since they were family friends.
“There she is, LOU!!” Cindy called.
Lou, turned around smiling, she waved at us and approached us.
“Hi girls, Jason, finally I was looking for you!” Lou said hugging him.
“I was looking for you too, mom texted me saying you were here so I thought I will meet you, it’s been ages!” He said smiling.
“It has! Look at you all grown up,” she said smiling.
“Thanks to these two wonderful ladies, they helped me find you,” he said.
“Thank you girls,” Lou said smiling.
“Pleasure,” I said.
“Do you guys fancy drinks? Lou and I can bring it, let’s go Lou,”Cindy said after we all talked for awhile.
Lou seemed to take the hint and went along,”yes! I’m thirsty, be right back.”
That left me and Jason together alone.
“So Y/N, tell me about you,” Jason said smiling.
“Well, I’m on my vacation here before I start applying for college,” I said.
‘Where do you want to study?” He asked.
“New York,” I said replying.
“I can help you with that actually since I know New York pretty well now,” he said chuckling.
“Oh yes! I could use some help,” I said agreeing.
We talked about random stuffs too, and he seemed pretty nice guys.
“Here are the drinks,” Cindy and Lou came after what seemed like ages.
“It was a bit crowded there on the bar,” Lou said, and she was lying I know.
We all talked a bit more, Jason is an intelligent guy it was good talking with him, soon it was time to leave. Me and Jason exchanged numbers before saying goodbyes.
“It was great meeting you,” he said hugging me.
“Likewise,” I said smiling.
in the car
“Look at her smiling,” Lou cooed.
“Y/N, your face will break into two,” Cindy teased.
“Stop teasing her,” Sarah chuckled.
“I can set you two up on a date tomorrow, should I?” Lou asked excitedly.
“No Lou! Don’t do that!” I said quickly.
“Easy tiger, okay I won’t but you better have a date before we leave Australia,” she said.
“Let’s see, what I can do,” I said shrugging.
“Oh gimme your phone,” Cindy said before taking it out of my purse.
“What are you doing?” I asked nervoulsy.
“Wait,” she said, before handing me my phone after few seconds.
I had a mini heart attack seeing she texted Jason.
It was lovely meeting you, would love to meet you again. xx
“What the fuck Cindy? Why did you text him, why did you add kisses sign, if I might add TWO KISSES, WHY?” I asked panicking.
“Stop it drama queen,” she said smirking. Before everyone in the car started laughing.
Oh why is she like this.
