Here are our "renters" AKA the Horneritos that live in one of our trees. They take turn to pick some mud and get inside to keep going with the construction. (Sometimes the one inside is a little hard to see, but it is there).
Of course the eggseller had to be around the corner with his annoying megaphone... other wise you wouldn't know that not only this is Latinoamerica, but el Conurbano as well (urban area that surrounds Buenos Aires City)

De ninguna manera poseo conocimientos expertos sobre aves, pero esa parece una elección peculiar para construir un nido 😅

I LOVE THAT SHIRT!!! I want one 😭
Everyone, let me introduce you to Argentina's national bird: El Hornero (the oven maker).
This photo was around May in one of the trees at home.
And this one around June, if I'm not wrong.
Why isn't this post letting me upload a video? Fine, I'll do my own post about the horneritos...
#birds#horneros#horneritos#argentina#living in argentina be like#did you know that the gauchos copied the shape and process of construction of this bird's nest to make ovens?#hence: Hornero (oven maker)#the nests always avoid having the openning facing South so the cold wind doesn't get in

February 5, 2024 - Pacific Hornero (Furnarius cinnamomeus) Found in parts of southwestern Colombia, western Ecuador, and northwestern Peru, these ovenbirds live in scrub, pastures, and other semi-open habitats, often near water. They eat invertebrates, including termites, beetles, caterpillars, and snails, and have been observed catching small fish from shallow pools in the dry season. Pairs build enclosed oven-shaped nests from mud on tree branches. Both parents feed the chicks.

November 9, 2023 - Caribbean Hornero (Furnarius longirostris) Found in parts of Colombia and Venezuela, these ovenbirds live in open habitats, often near water. They eat arthropods and other invertebrates, picking food from the ground, usually foraging alone or in pairs. Though relatively little is known about their breeding habits despite how common they are, they build oven-shaped mud nests on tree branches where females lay clutches of two eggs.

I'm so furious about a small Wikipedia mistake and I have to rant about it
Oh my fucking goddddr I swear how did this mistake fucking happen
So okay. This down here is a Rufous hornero. Very friendly, right? Very cute, very normal, very brown.
Big boy here is very unique in behaviour, he builds a mud nest, it's lovely, they're everywhere around here.
But wait.
WAIT
Wikipedia says they DON'T LIVE where I live
THIS IS WIKIPEDIA'S MAP OF THEIR LOCATION. THIS BULLSHIT STRETCH OF LAND NEAR THE SEA, BY WIKIPEDIA'S STANDARDS, DOESN'T CONTAIN A SINGLE BIRD FROM THIS SPECIES.
Now, let's compare this to our birdwatching wiki. Specialised in birds.
Can't say much about other countries but can you. Can you see the issue I got? The huge fucking mistake? Someone deliberately made this decision of "nope. I'm banning this bird from most of the coast idgaf"
And um fucking furious because I can't edit this map because MY COMPUTER IS BROKEN.
