I see that you're anti Bakugou blog, can I ask something because I'm really curious? Don't worry it's not hate ask (even if I'm Bakudeku shipper).
What I want to ask is the same in this post :
"I get preferring other ships, but if you hate them (BKDK), cannot stand them... you don't love the story. How could you? The narrative is built around their relationship. How they feel about each other at any given time is how you can tell the story is progressing. In both cases, they want to compete and surpass each other, which motivates them to train harder, to be better.
This is also why I don't get people who say they love one character but hate the other. Like, you cannot love Midoriya while hating Bakugou and vice versa.
They don't need to be your favorite characters, but you have to recognize their importance to your fav and their character arc. That is simply logical, in my opinion."

First of all thank you for the question and not sending any hate comments that's very appreciated by me!
This is an interesting perspective and interpretation of the series, even if I don't see eye to eye with you or agree with this interpretation thank you for sharing it.
To begin this of I want to say that I don't particularly agree with the statement that you provided above. While the story in itself does revolve around izuku and bakugo to an extent its not exactly that big and I would argue that it shouldn't be that big of an involvement overall.
Izuku and bakugo's rivalry or the extended version which is the Canon one harms both the characters and the plot. This is because of how their rivalry naturally is which is toxic. @sapphic-agent goes into depth about how the wonder duo fails and of the toxicity of their supposed rivalry.
From the beginning izuku and bakugo's relationship was unhealthy whether that be from izukus non stop admiration even when bakugo abused him or bakugo who thought that izuku was a nuisance in his path. I think the best route for bakugos character was for him to ditch the rivalry route towards anyone. Bakugo as a character needed to accept that there are various people who will be weaker or stronger or different than him. He also needed to accept that society proping him up as this next big hero and ultimately feeding his ego was also wrong.
In the end I still have a lot of issues with bakugo's character individually that I did talk about previously and I think that overall he should of had an arc of breaking down his harmful thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. His arc needed more focus on his character and how he treats other people not just izuku.
I also want to argue that bakugo's arc isn't that well written at all. He doesn't really change and the change we do see from his underwhelming due to a number of reasons whether that be his horrible apology or his behaviour not really changing and being played off as a gag or the way we see bakugo still uphold his old behaviour heck it's all around his arc him being the only character to follow the idea of not saving someone or him just being hyperfixated on a rivalry that doesn't have equal footing.
I think the bakugo vs izuku fight part 2 showed a lot of bakugo and izukus problems within their relationship really well. I also think that was the arc where bakugo should of been separated from izuku having people acknowledge the toxicity of their relationship as bakugo thinks izuiu owes him an explanation when he doesn't or how izuku is supposed to overcome his admiration for bakugo and realise that what bakugo did to him was wrong. @delawaredetroit made a lot of analysis based on that fight which I think is worth checking out because they point out good bakugo critiques that horikoshi doesn't address and simply let's slide for bakugo while painting his and izukus relationship as perfectly fine and a healthy rivalry that moves the story.
In the end for bakugo he becomes a character attached to izuku ultimately having no real relevance outside of izuku and that sucks for him as he isn't even able to grow an we aren't able to see that change with the way he Interacts with the world.
Now moving onto izuku's character. Izuku due to horikoshis writing decisions also suffered a lot due this supposes rivalry. Izuku doesn't ever acknowledge the abuse that bakugo committed ultimately since he doesn't ever get to either introspect or freely express emotions about this issue his whole character starts to lack introspection and hinders him from forming valuable character relationships that can help push the narrative forward as he comes to understand heroes, civillians and villains alike. Izuku also never gets a say in the relationship he ultimately becomes more passive and a shell of his former self as the series goes on to the point that we don't see him react to losing his quirk (no the moment is focused on bakugo crying instead) and we don't see izukus response to the apology that bakugo offered.
It seems that throughout their relationship izuku who once had potential and so much going for him went through one of the worst cases of character regressions and assassinations that I have ever seen . At least before the rivalry started we saw izuku express fear, awe,anger and so many more emotions towards bakugo but now he is an empty shell a clean slate that cannot feel any negative emotions towards him at all.
Going back to my original point the narrative isn't fully built around their relationship and while they do have major themes such as win to save and save to win, their relationship in itself doesn't bring much to the narrative it actually just harms their characters and makes them lack depth even more.
Izuku already has a character who is supposed to be his rival, whose supposed to challenge his views, whose supposed to understand him and be understood by him and that character is shigaraki yet horikoshi doesn't build up on their relationship and only throws parallels around when it comes to those two making the final war arc a dissatisfactionary and disappointing rollercoster filled with mountains of wasted potential.
From the beginning the story to me had a clear path that bakugo wasn't supposed to be a primary character in the series he was supposed to be something that izuku overcame, he was supposed to be a challenge that showed the damage that society caused but that wasn't the case and the direction that hori took the story ended up harming every aspect of the story whether that be the unexplored plot point of quirkless discirmation (which many speculate is unexplored to make bakugo not look bad) or the final fight between shigaraki and izuku that lacked any build up whatsoever (toga and ochako had a better one because they had time to develop)
So to sum it up while the two characters relationship is present within the series its not a well written one at all and it isn't a primary relationship that develops both izuku and bakugo but more of a relationship that develops bakugos character and hinders izukus character.

Thanks for answering and I'm sorry for being rude because I really was rude, it's just that since all this leaks stuff blew up I've been coming across more and more posts about Midoriya being a loser, useless, etc because he said no to Bakugou, some even saying that Bakugou should take off his suit, the same suit that is a collaboration with the entire Class 1A. So yeah, seeing posts talking about apologies as if Izuku owed him something had me on edge and I rudely wrote on your blog. I apologize and thank you for answering me in such a polite way despite my ask.
oh man i wish you werenât anon! i really admire that you came back to reply, I def didn't want a sorry, you're really v cool cause not a lot of ppl can be non-defensive nowadays. And you know i liked that you were defending Izuku, which I also feel the need to do when i come across ppl calling deku a cuck? ochaco a gold digger? are you guys insane?
These are fictional characters, there are younger bnha fans reading these posts who are not. they're learning fandom behaviour from you.
I don't want anyone interacting with my BKDK posts if you are okay with/ are encouraging name-calling fictional characters and horikoshi degrading names. Bakudeku shippers who are doing this should rethink whether itâs really bakudeku they love, or whether Izuku is more of a self insert to them.
Non-jokingly slandering Izuku about giving back the suit (remember, izuku is literally half of your OTP) Ask yourself if you would do the same with bakugou if for instance bakugou started bullying him again (impossible to think of, yes, but we also thought it impossible for deku to turn kacchan down, didnt we?)

Okay, since my mind is on "turning gears" mode, rethinking about this post, I do want to add something!
To me, Midoriya doesn't stay stuck in the past. But! He wouldn't forget it.
He's more so someone who would not forget the past but with move forward to make a better future. Be it for many, himself or just another single person. But at the same time, uses the past to help make that better future.
His relationship with Bakugou, I'll use that as an example.
He moved past Bakugou's treatment of him during their earlier years. But he doesn't ignore Bakugou. He doesn't treat Bakugou like a stranger or even denies that they knew each other.
Instead, in the beginning, he tells Bakugou "Hey, I'm not going to be your punching bag anymore". That's him telling him "we're not going to stay stuck on the same path anymore".
He's moving past that.
However, at the same time, he's not going to forget and stop caring about Bakugou. He wants to have a better relationship with Bakugou. He never wanted to stop being friends with Bakugou and he doesn't write him off. He doesn't entirely let Bakugou go.
He does hold onto Bakugou because Bakugou is still an important person to him. If not, the most important person to him.
"This is why we can't have normal conversations!"
Another line (season 2, the BkDk vs All Might fight) from Midoriya in which he acknowledges that they have a rocky relationship, that all they do is come to blows when he just wants to be on the same page as Bakugou.
That whole fight with All Might was one of the few times Midoriya did try to assert some force to get Bakugou to listen to and reason with him.
After that, he doesn't do anything to push their relationship to be better/change. Not like forcefully, like in a "I'm the boss now" kind of way. He doesn't use their past to get what he wants from Bakugou. He doesn't jump into Bakugou's space to go "Hey, Kacchan, today you're going to do what I say so we can be better friends"!
He naturally lets it happen. He naturally is letting Bakugou take the reins of how he wants to proceed on with the relationship. (Especially since after their fight, Midoriya had other things to worry about as did Bakugou for a time.)
That's the thing with Midoriya. He's a little nosy, he does make people's business his own, but one thing he won't do is be forceful against trying to make someone's opinion about something or their whole personality change.
He says his piece and let that person have their own reaction to it. He's just the influence.
After the Ground Beta fight, he doesn't go to Bakugou immediately and be like "Hey, let's be friends again!"
He heard Bakugou out and he does let Bakugou into the whole OFA situation, but he doesn't use that against him to make Bakugou feel like he owes him.
That apology? Bakugou did that on his own. Midoriya never came to him like "you owe me an apology for all the things you did to me".
He's there for Bakugou, he'll support him. But he gives Bakugou that space to develop on his own.
Another example, when he was fighting Lady Nagant.
He brings up her past as a Hero. But not to judge her or hold it against her like "you should have still been a hero". But to understand why she was working with AFO, what happened in her life that changed her. He hears her out and he doesn't tell her "Oh, the Commission wouldn't do that". He just tries to understand her and even though she had been shooting at him, he doesn't hold her past actions against her. He could have let her fall, but he doesn't.
He uses the past, be it his own or someone else's, to understand people and the world around him.
Don't forget, Midoriya isn't stupid. And he isn't all that naive.
He doesn't just brush things under the rug. He's not that big of a pushover.
Horikoshi could have easily written Midoriya to give Bakugou excuses or nag at Bakugou about being terrible towards him during their childhood years.
But that's not Midoriya.
Again, he still cares for Bakugou, he would fight for Bakugou, but what he doesn't do is pretend Bakugou mistreated him or holds it against him.
Bakugou is his past, but Midoriya still wants him there in the present and future.
He won't forget a past. But he doesn't use it against people for his own gain. He brings up the past because he wants to make a better future. He doesn't want to live in the dark and pretend everything is all fine and dandy. He doesn't live in some illusion. He knows not everything is black and white. In fact, he's one of the few (and sometimes it feels like he's the only character) characters that acknowledges the world is a bunch of greys.
At the same time, Midoriya moves on, not for the sake wanting to forget something or someone because he can't handle it. He moves on because he wants something better. He wants to improve. You can't improve if you're stuck on something you can let go.
He learns from the past to have something better in the future. He acknowledges the past because without it, there wouldn't be a present or a future.
Again, I just think Midoriya is the type of person to move on. The type of person who wants to grow, but he just doesn't forget the roots as to where he started.
I say he's moved on from his rocky past with Bakugou and what he has done to him, yes, but he doesn't forget it. He doesn't forget their past, he doesn't forget Bakugou. I'm sure he even still has that All Might card. It's a reminder of what they used to be like. What they could be like now.
Just my opinion, that's all. Not saying you have to agree. It's just something I wanted to clear up and add onto that ask I answered. I honestly have doubts anyone feels the same I do about this.

2) âFuck if I know Shigaraki, you have quite the interesting imagination, I wish my dreams were half that abstract. Then again, I was never comatose, as far as I know.â- And as a side-effect of his awakened/ascended mentality, Tomuraâs âetherealâ white hair has become almost negative space around his head, almost looking like Horikoshi simply didnât draw the pages around him. 3) âOH OKAY FUCK FUCK FUCK I KNEW THINGS WERE GOING TO GET WEIRD
WE`RE GONNA DEAL WITH A BIT OF THAT LINGERING TRAUMA FROM THE PAST, AREN`T WE?

NOT AT ALLâ- Hard to call it âlingeringâ when AFO actively cultivated Tomuraâs mentality to keep it first and foremost inside his emotional core, always pushing him forwards even when heâd repressed the hell out of it. His mind is nothing but trauma, and heâs only now recently started to mature enough to start owing that damage as being what he thinks of himself as. He sees himself through the broken mirror of his mind, each piece a cracked reflection of the boy he started as and what he could have been. 4) âOH IT`S STILL HER, AND SHE`S REMINDING US AND SHIGARAKI OF THAT PARTICULAR MOMENTâ- If this broken landscape is what makes up his mind, then tragically, the pieces of it that allow him to hold his âselfâ together and avoid floating away in the chaos are the very ones that relate to his childhood trauma- the thing that breaks him inside paradoxically holds him together even beyond what other people could endure. 5) âI wonder, do Shigaraki even remembered that she apologized for what she had done? He wasn`t paying much attention at the time, but did he ever recalled that she regretted making him suffer like that?â- Being that this seems to almost be like Shigarakiâs memories of his family overlapping with that night and what heâd think they would say to him now, it sorta implies that he does remember â like, this whole sequence is a little unclear if itâs all in his head, or if him being technically dead means that heâs communing with his familyâs lingering ghosts, or if heâs using the memories of his family to talk to himself through their images, putting the words in their mouths to converse with himself as he processes his current situation. Nana herself seems to be the anomaly here, but that itself might also be because of her lingering vestige preserved within OFAâŠwhich itself has some undefined link to AFO, as shown by him likewise sensing the changes to the twin Quirk within Tartarus when the additional Quirks started awakening. 6) âAGAIN, DID SHIGARAKI EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HIS DREAM SINCE THEN? EVEN IF ONLY TO SAY âFUCK THAT, HEROES SUCKâ?â- I think heâs thought about it by not thinking about it â like the answer is one he already known deep down on an emotional, instinctual level, but itâs all wrapped up underneath the layers of trauma and pain involved with that night, and he finds it easier to think about the hurt that motivates him more than the uncomfortable answer lurking underneath all that sorrow and lashing out. Eventually, he will have to give a voice to that answer, but at present, his current situation means he can focus on attacking the heroes rather than wasting time navel-gazing and considering whether itâs even a possibility to turn back anymore. 7) âSOMETHING TELLS ME HE DIDN`T, CONSIDERING HIS EXPRESSION TOWARDS THE GIANT IMAGINARY MILF. OH GOD, EITHER THIS WHOLE SHIT IS GOING TO GO REALLY BAD, OR IT WILL GO REALLY, REALLY BADâ-Considering that the âitchinessâ is tied thematically to Tomuraâs apparent longing to âdestroyâ things, sheâs as good as telling him that his revenge on the world that denied him will only lead to him wanting to destroy more and more until he has nothing left, but AFO has groomed Tomura so thoroughly that heâs convinced himself that existing in this miserable situation of his own violation is what makes him âhimâ now, like heâs felt this pain for so long, itâs warped around to being comforting. Like Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Tomura has immersed himself in the role of the villain, even if itâs in opposition to his childhood dream, because he feels like he has nothing else left outside of it, and can only make the best of his situation by embracing the perks it provides him, even if heâs unsatisfied with it all at his core.
8) âFUCK FUCK FUCK IT`S BABYGARAKI AGAIN
OH GOD OH FUCK THIS IS REALLY SPIRALING OUT OF CONTROLâ-He says heâs ok, but only because heâs gotten so used to the misery of his current existence that he canât imagine a life where heâs not the villain anymore, where heâs not the outsider rejected by society who can only destroy. His body reverts back to the child he was when he first found the photograph, showing that the desire to be a hero is still deeply wrapped up in his core identity, even if heâs convinced himself itâs impossible, and his eyes arenât quite focused and full of emotions like they were when he was idolising nanaâs image. He claims heâs fine, but itâs clearly deflection on how he really feels- and given this may be part of his own mind speaking to him through his memories, it could also be seen as him burying the last shreds of his conscience before he awakens to bring misery to all, reaffirming that this is what he wants to himself.
9) âOH OKAY IT SEEMS LIKE WE HAVE REACHED A CONCLUSION TO THIS WHOLE SPIRITUAL TRIP TO THE PAST, AND THE RESULTS ARE IN:
EVERYBODY RUN THE FUCK AWAY, SHIT`S GONNA OBLITERATE THE FANâ- As he affirms that heâs fine with being the destructive villain, the memory of his father attacking him surfaces- the first time he used his power maliciously, and thus the first time he experienced the pleasant joy and satisfaction that came with using his powers to hurt those who oppressed him, essentially the part of his mind that  revels in the joy of being a villain reminding him of the origin of that desire.
10) âWELP, THE TRAUMA PUT HIM ON THIS TRIAL, AND SHIGARAKI DECIDED ON HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. THE ONLY WAY HE EVER KNEW OF DEALING WITH ITâ- Itâs tragic, but Tenkoâs confidence and fearlessness in facing what would normally be a traumatic memory that repressed him and destroying it with his own willpower and the strength he now possesses is somewhat inspiring as well. You canât help but wonder how heâd have turned out if he was given some positive learning experiences instead of a troubled upbringing before he massacred his family.
11) âOH, NOW IT`S YOU. RIGHT. YEAH IF WE`RE TALKING ABOUT TRAUMA OF COURSE YOU WOULD SHOW UP IN HIS HEAD. THE FUCK YOU`RE GONNA SHOW HIM AS WELL?â-Well, he did help plant the bad thoughts of Tomura being an inherently destructive monster in his head in the first place- it gave him an easy way in in more ways than one⊠12) âWAIT WAIT THEFUVKX THAT IS NOT AN HALLUCINATIOLN

THAT`S THE REAL ONME ISN`T IT
OH GOD WHAT THWE FUCK

13) âNow, the doctor just wants some clarification before he gets started, and Iâm wondering how many quirks heâs gonna shove inside his twink frame. He still needs to leave some room for the cherry on top of the cake, the quirk of All for One, that one is still behind bars, but soon heâll be backâŠ
Soonâąâ- Or heâs prepping him for All For oneâs quirk all along, because itâs better long term for him to just finalise his body right from the start and have the ability to stockpile unlimited power already in him, rather than building up to it gradually by adapting his vessel pieces by piece to handle multiple quirks. All For One does seem to have some kind of innate resistance against the natural devastation that would result from containing multiple quirks at once, a trait shared with its twin, much to Dekuâs benefit, so rather than toughen Tomuraâs body up by adding increasing numbers of quirks into his modified frame one by one, itâs easier for Ujiko to just prep him to handle the entirely of All For One all at once and let the quirkâs natural abilities handle the blowback of gaining so much power in one go. Granted, the process isnât pretty by a long shot, but Tomuraâs made it quite clear he doesnât give a damn about winning any beauty competitions, which is good, because he was looking worse off than even Dabi on that operating table. @thelreads

Apologies for coming off like a dick - a thing you need to know about me is that in life I walk a very thin line between optimism and.....well, not cynicism per se but cold realism. I like to hope, but I don't like to false hope...when there are multiple indicators screaming that hoping for something different is a waste of time, I step back from hoping for it. That way, I'm not disappointed by that something different not happening (or pleasantly surprised if it does).
MHA's ending and Kohei Horikoshi as a writer is one such example of that.
Now I don't actually think Horikoshi is a bad writer. He's done too much great stuff throughout MHA for me to believe that. But what I do think from all I've seen and heard of the man is that he is not a reflective writer. Whenever he puts things in a story or makes a decision on how certain things should go, he's not going to think deeply about it. The thinking part was done with when he did it, so thinking further and asking himself "Does this really work? What message is it sending? Is there a better direction to take this in?" isn't really something that he does. Now, maybe there are outside factors to that like his editors or Jump's demanding schedule; idk. But from things like his statement on how he just wants to make the story interesting, I definitely get the impression that he adds complex realistic issues in to grab readers' attention, not because he wants to offer up any stance or solution on said issues.
And that's why the League of Villains was negatively impacted: Horikoshi didn't start out envisioning them having a larger point or purpose. He himself said early on "I can't have them too likeable. They're supposed to be terrifying". But then he decided, to make them and the story more interesting, to provide their members with tragic backstories and develop a larger point and purpose related to societal corruption. This got many fans like you and me thinking that he had completely revamped how he intended to use them in the story. But no, it didn't. Before he made that decision, he intended them to just end up defeated, killed or jailed, and making that decision changed nothing: he stuck to his endgame plan for them. That is my cold realism view: the nuance and depth the LoV received never had anything to do with redeeming them or providing a satisfying conclusion to the issues they raised. It was a ploy for reader attention and investment. And if there are readers disappointed about their ending, why should Horikoshi care? Those readers stuck with the story all the way through to that ending, so he got exactly what he wanted from them and feels he owes them nothing more.
What I'm trying to say is that I get you hoping for something different given that what we have is so unsatisfying, I really do - but why bother when it's based on a logical fallacy? Your premise that it can't possibly be how MHA ends is rooted in the belief that the LoV as characters and all the societal issues they represent matter to Horikoshi emotionally because they matter to you emotionally. But based on all available evidence....they don't matter to him emotionally and they never did. He has no impetus to have a different ending to the story because he's perfectly satisfied with the ending he wrote. It sucks, but we're all better off accepting it and doing our best to move on instead of hoping that he changes the way he is.
This can't be the final "End", for both the heroes and the villains
(Spoiler warning, long post)
Deku and Ochako's stories didn't end well, and not just for the shipping or not keeping One For All.
The narrative endings they got, either don't make sense or flat out don't work at all.
The end of Ochako's arc doesn't work because it conflicts with what we've been shown to be true.
She does try to help others after hearing PARTS of Toga's backstory, a natural progression of her character.
But the problem is that it leads to this:
"Uravity to expand access to Quirk Counseling"
EXPANDING Quirk Counseling...
Not REFORMING and then expanding Quirk Counseling.
Remember that this is Quirk Counseling:
"Where they attempt to hammer out any bumps in your understanding of the world and program you to fit neatly into society's little boxes.
It's a far from perfect process, the counseling ends up emphasizing the inherent differences among us all, and that's one bug they've yet to work out of the programming."
Stated by Curious during the MVA Arc, then confirmed later in a flashback featuring a counselor talking to Toga and her parents:
"Let's straighten you out so you can be "Normal".
Deviance is common in children with strong Quirks.
We'll fix it. It'll be like it never existed."
Focusing only on repression and the appearance of being normal, not actually helping the child at all.
So yeah, knowing that this is how Quirk Counseling really is, how exactly does expanding this help??
THIS WAS WHY TOGA STAYING CLOSE TO OCHAKO WAS SO IMPORTANT
(Not being with her in the shipping sense but working, talking with her and just being together.)
Anything good about this project that Ochako is creating is only implied not shown, and it doesn't mesh well at all with what we already know.
And even if Ochako did do things right, it still wouldn't be a satisfying payoff.
Ochako wasn't fighting so hard and struggling so much to help random, unnamed, unseen people from the villain life.
She was fighting to help Toga Himiko.
Her failing to save Toga and only (implying) saving others we don't even know, will never carry the same weight.
It won't feel right in a story that's supposed to be "Hopeful", because there's no solid connection left for that sentiment to be attached.
And there was no saving going on between Deku/shigaraki and Ochako/Toga after their battles were over.
This is the sentiment put forth by Nana Shimura (and at the time agreed upon by All-might and Deku), on what a true hero saving someone means:
"When you have to save someone, they're usually in a scary situation. A true hero saves not only their lives, but also their hearts... That's what I believe."
"Saving" is supposed to be both the life and the heart.
Not just one or the other.
And even if Gran Torino was supposed to be the one in the right -
(The narrative sure as hell made it look like he was supposed to be in the wrong and Deku was going to be the one to prove that.)
- in that killing can be a form of saving.
Deku and Ochako didn't even save the villain's hearts.
Not fully.
Shigaraki tells Deku that he still needs to be a hero to the villains and that he fought to destroy until the very end.
Only giving a snide encouragement to Deku at the end of the fight because he's literally crumbling into dust and got his world view rocked by the "It was AFO all along~" reveal.
Toga tells ochako that she didn't make "the bad stuff", the pain in her heart go away.
Only telling ochako that her efforts and words made Toga feel happy, but that's it.
They couldn't save their lives, only partially saved their hearts, leading to the results:
100% - 50% - 25% = 25 % (final grade)
FAIL
The rest of Deku's conclusion doesn't fair any better.
Deku's heroic finale ends the exact same way it ended in every filler bnha movie, only with even less payoff.
He didn't succeed in his goal, with who he wanted to save and he just goes back to doing what he always did at the start, being a hero.
He doesn't develop in any noticable way until the OFA embers run out off screen.
Even the symbolic saving of the scissors boy, Deku doesn't get.
It would have been a world of difference if deku had seen tenko's full backstory, then told it to the world.
Telling the civilians that they needed to do their part to help those in trouble.
(Knowing that there's no AFO left to potentially get in the way.)
Resulting in many civilians coming together to help the scissor boy.
That would have delivered on everyone's narrative payoff.
But instead the theme doesn't work here because the single old lady who does step up to help, does so out of guilt (Not helping tenko) rather than because it is the right thing to do.
Nobody among the civilians besides the old lady stepped up to help on top of that.
So it looks less like a societal shift and more like the redemption of one single person.
The narrative makes a half-hearted attempt to tie this back to Deku but it doesn't work there either.
Because how exactly does Deku punching shigaraki into powder inspire the old lady to extend a helping hand to someone who represents that same villain??
It doesn't.
Even if the sentiment is: that everyone must do their part to help, there is a giant disconnect between:
Everyone seeing the heroes helping each other, fighting and succeeding in destroying the scary villain.
and
Realizing that someone has to help the person who looks like a scary villain.
It doesn't add up together.
Doesn't flow narratively at all.
The 8 year time skip makes more problems with Deku.
The line of: "You too can become a Hero."
Is meant to be the payoff callback to All-might giving those same words to Deku in bnha's beginning, so now Deku says the same thing to another kid that has doubts about his ability to become a hero.
It is kind of sweet but thinking about it for more than 5 seconds should give pause because:
Deku was about to receive the most powerful quirk in the world from All-might.
And the kid Deku was giving those same inspirational words to could throw plates from his head.
It's not even confirmed whether or not the kid could control their size, telepathically manipulate them or something like that.
So if what that other loudmouth kid in the final chapter said is true, about how only the most capable can become heroes in the current time.
The entire conversation, just like many other things in this ending, reads like false hope from the heroes.
Not like Deku has to deal with any of that or the kid himself anymore because he gets a tech suit, allowing him to be a hero again.
We don't know if he keeps his teaching job or not, maybe he did, maybe he didn't.
But still, once again Deku avoids any difficult questions that the story puts in front of him.
And all of this doesn't even cover the other issues that the story brought up:
The popularity poll expanding instead of ending, as if that would prevent the Endeavor/Dabi situation from happening again.
Lack of social/government help for anyone who gets dealt more than a couple of bad hands in life, those caught up in hero/villain conflicts or other disasters (quirk based or not).
Remember how twice became a villain?
THE QUIRK SINGULARITY DOOMSDAY
Now that AFO, shigaraki and the doctor (all of his research and technology) are gone, what's going to happen when children start wiping out whole city blocks?
(The doctor may be alive and imprisoned but with AFO dead, the doctor likely won't help anymore because AFO was so important to him.)
With the power and complexity of the quirks inevitably increasing, think Eri unintentionally killing her dad X10.
Then the next round of kids, make it X50 then X100.
And finally, in the last chapter it's stated that there's a: "Decline in the villain emergence rate."
Why exactly that is isn't said, but it's implied that it's due to the efforts of Ochako and Shoji.
Let's put aside the suspension of disbelief and assume that it's true, that what they did worked in stopping villains from being made enough to have a real impact.
What happens to the people that are already villains??
The ones currently on the run or in jail.
If the hero kids made that big of a difference in the demographic of villains just by expanding counseling and nonviolent resolution, then that only reinforces the truth that the villains are easily preventable victims.
The implications of that aren't doing the heroes or hero society any favors.
We don't know what happens after because Rehabilitation was never offered to anyone who wasn't a small time criminal (Gentle Criminal) or a former assassin of the state (Lady Nagant).
Are the other villains still currently stuck in their circumstances just out of luck, help came too late for them too just like the Lov?
We don't know.
You can assume, imply and head-canon the solutions to all these issues, with what the hero kids might do, as much as you want to.
But if you have to do that with the big questions and plot points, then the story hasn't delivered on what it said it was going to.
Maybe horikoshi isn't that good of a writer but it's hard to believe that.
Horikoshi put so much into this series and all the characters in it, the central villains and the hero kids being the most important ones.
That he'd just fumble everything and pull a Falcon and the Winter Soldier: "You need to do better" and then they did'-Type ending.
This can't be it.
Maybe the "Ending" endpoint of this narrative but not the end of the overall story.
For the villains just as much as the heroes.
Toga dying to a blood transfusion, despite everything other characters survived (Gran Torino donut, edgeshot worm, Dabi charcoal skeleton) and things that she herself survived already.
Having curious bombs go off inside her body leading to internal damage and severe blood loss, yet she still survived until she received help and recovered just fine.
They got Dabi to medical and kept him alive.
Other villains like overhaul, muscular, compress and spinner survived.
It's not like she either had to die or go to jail, she could have just escaped.
Leading to her meeting up with Ochako again in secret or something, to finally fulfill both of their arcs and iron everything out for what would have happened in the future.
Then the Quirk Counseling ending could have worked.
Shigaraki dying after finding out his life was entirely manipulated by AFO.
Strung along like a puppet, mentally and physically manipulated to believe he is a force of destruction, so much that by the time the series starts, it's all shigaraki can believe himself to be.
Twice and Kurogiri fight and die trying to save Toga and Shigaraki, so they can live and be reunited with their friends.
This all just meant nothing in the end??
Ochako, Deku, Toga and Shigaraki's stories can't be over yet because they are important characters and there's too much left unresolved.
Ochako's resolution is incomplete and undefined.
Deku's hero ending feels disappointing and tone-deaf.
Toga completely disappeared before Ochako was taken by the helicopter, nowhere to be seen where she should have been if she had died.
And how is shigaraki a force ghost still walking around in the world if there's no quirks left tethering him as a vestige?
ALSO this recent interview with Horikoshi himself:

"Horikoshi says one thing to pay attention to from the My Hero Academia "You're Next" movie is the relationship between Giulio and Anna and how it connects with Deku and the others' goals.
He writes:
"The relationship between Giulio and Anna is a part of the goal point where Deku and the others will eventually reach.
The movie as a standalone in itself is interesting, but if you watch the movie then return to the actual story, then you might feel 'oh so this is where the story leads to.' As such, please pay attention to Giulio and Anna in the movie!"
To give context, by the end of the movie, Giulio is able to cancel out Anna's quirk using his own, allowing her to live a life without being sheltered in fear of her quirk or used as a weapon. So Horikoshi's comment is probably referring to how they help each other accept their quirks or lack thereof and still be able to live in harmony.
In regards to their relationship, Giulio tells Anna he will always be by her side no matter what, they hug and then walk off into the sunset together at the end of the movie."
And another heavily lampshaded moment in the movie novelization when Giulio inner narrates this:
'He knew that killing her wouldn't be a true form of salvation.'
What was all this about??
There has to be more left.

When Hawks says to Lady Nagant that there's still hope in hero society, I honestly extremely doubt he's talking about upholding the same damn system. Guys, this man since the beginning has said he's wanted to make it so heroes can have less work and relax, that he's wanted to change it. He's literally been part of the messed up system the HPSC had in place, but they're down now . This is literally prime time to change it to what he wanted, what people needed, and/or be as incorruptible as possible.
People LOVE to bash on him killing Twice (despite us seeing him practically begging the man to stop killing off innocents and come with him to a better life than being a villain, and seeming to actually really care about him as a friend, but whatever I guess), but if you guys really wanna see him pay for what he did or make up for it, why can't it be by creating a system that can actually save/help/prevent more Twice's from being created? Why wouldn't it be having things like villain rehabilitation places that fanfic writers love making in their fics?
I know you guys want him to flat out die or go to jail, I kinda get it. That was an entire traumatized and mentally ill man he killed, but no matter what you all want, that doesn't mean Hori is gonna do it. He's over here giving assholes like Endewhore second chances (more personally angry about this part 'cause I'm a victim of male parental abuse as well, trust me I'd be clapping my hands off if he cooked himself alive via his own quirk or something, but one can only wish), so why wouldn't Hawks get one either?
Im not trying to say you SHOULDN'T have your views and hatred at all whatsoever, but maybe try not to spread so much hate and negativity yeah? It honestly ruins people's day seeing all the hate and stuff and it kinda does mine too.. For all we know, the system he could help create could be exactly what that world needs
Also side note, why are people convinced Hawks is an Endeavor apologist when looking at his plushy? Like go ahead and state any of other reasons for him being one, but the plushy? Guys chill, I think you need to also remember, that was his comfort as a child. Do you guys even remember how important it is for a child to have a comfort item? Esp when a child grows up in a terrible environment? That plushy seemed to be the only thing he cherished, as a gift from his mom AND because of the idea of a strong, buff dude who could come rescue him from the life he was born into/ his villain dad was so cool and have him hope. Are you guys trying to say he shouldn't have had hopes of being saved by some public figure who seemingly takes down all the bad guys? Are you telling me he should have just MAGICALLY known back then what Endewhore was really like??? Are you telling me an abused child should have given up the hope of being saved by someone, ANYONE, just because that figure just so happened to be Endeavor???

~the sky is blue~ A look into Izuku and Katsukiâs unfinished relationship
Thereâs a very big possibility Izukuâs real feelings towards Kacchan are going to finally get exposed when he sees him lying there on the ground and itâs during this moment we may be told if their relationship truly has been built up to become canonically romantic. We donât know how this is going to play out. Horikoshi has complete control over that and thatâs whatâs scary.
The only thing Iâm sure about is this feeling in my chest that Izukuâs going to hug the shit out of him and cry like a baby when he wakes up again and I donât think Iâll ever be ready for that scene. Itâll be a straight up needy, air tight, exceptionally clingy glompfest on the ground and Kacchan wonât even have it in him to tell him to get off of him. He will just let it happen. (He wants it too, psh)
I think about this end scene because the only saving grace I can think of for all the pain Kacchan has been put through, is that it increased the debt of love and comfort he is owed (and should be paid) by Izuku. You canât have a beloved character suffer that much and not receive any aftercare from the person he loves and thinks on most and died for. Izuku was the reason he had to go through this pain so he should be the reason for his relief later too. And these times are really scary for us because him even receiving life let alone relief is currently in contention as we donât write this story and can only hope for the best for them.
Horikoshi literally had sAFO spell this out for anyone who was in any doubt. The reason for Katsukiâs pain is the closeness Izuku feels with him. Almost like he is sowing seeds, laying down the foundation for a scene of these two comforting each other in future.
We donât know whether emotional debt makes sense or not to Kohei. But he did write 322⊠and the things Kacchan did for Izuku there could only be described as pure relief for Izuku from his own personal suffering, so I want to think Kohei planned for this same relief in return for Kacchan ever since he started becoming quietly supportive of him with his quirk training and refused to let Izuku deal with his curse alone. Never complaining. Never asking for anything in return.Â
His need for relief started really piling up ever since the apology though, because Kacchan didnât get a true answer from Izukuâs heart. He completely opened himself up for Izuku but never got an actual response from him about how he feels about them.
He didnât ask for an answer but you know he needed one because his desire to be closer to Izuku was really made known to Izuku from here on. âomaeâ âIzukuâ embracing him, comforting him, not leaving his side, etc. Katsuki placed the power in Izukuâs hands ever since the apology and itâs been up to him to accept Kacchan into his heart. And the tragedy is they both slipped from each otherâs grasp before Izuku could ever give him this moment of acceptance. (It will still happen though.)
It felt like a love confession that never got an honest reply. If you read a lot of manga then you know how important the reply is to these, lol. And Izuku canât return his feelings if Kacchan isnât around *smile* chop chop, Kohei.
And now things have gotten much, much worse because sAFO has made Kacchan suffer an unbelievable amount (I feared his time would come when Izuku didnât answer his apology directly, but I never knew how bad it would be jfc I got PTSD under my eyelids) so Iâm just sitting here waiting for Izuku to do the thing and give Kacchan the love he needs and very much deserves. Itâs been a long time coming. I think that itâs okay for us to have faith that this is where the writing is leading us towards, bc at the end of the day they love each other more than any other and there is just no way of getting around it.
Their relationship throughout the whole series has been built on the foundations of angst, misunderstandings, vulnerability while learning to trust and a greed/need for each other that hasnât really been given much context when you consider how rocky the start was. So Iâm hoping the ending provides us some of that missing context when Izuku faces Kacchan properly for what will likely be the first time ever.Â
âCause when you think about it, he has never once told Kacchan what he really feels/wants nor asked it of him. In typical Izuku fashion, he always assumes what people are feeling towards him, and acts based on that, which can disregard their actual feelings, also often dismissing and denying himself in the process. But whatever he assumed has never been true for Katsuki, has it?Â
Like the assumption that a letter would ever suffice Katsuki. Izuku was doing what he thought was right and trying to protect him, denying both of them of each other in the process. This was the start of Katsuki taking the reigns of their relationship because Izuku wasnât going to. He wanted Izuku by his side, not paper. He got greedy for Izuku. His feelings are very cute. Japanese fans have said this panel is being broken up with by text POV. TRUEEE.
Contrary to Izukuâs beliefs, Katsuki has always wanted more of him, never less. He pushed him away all the time because he was scared Izuku was going to leave him behind first. Major trust issues. Thatâs why he always had to walk ahead. If heâs always walking ahead he would never have to watch a certain someone leave his sight and leave him far behind. Izuku should have been more honest with him so he would never have had to feel like this in the first place.
These images were consecutive to tell us Kacchanâs need to walk ahead was directly linked to him being scared of being left behind. (chapter 275)
When you consider that Izuku is the kind of person to send himself into mental tail spins over what otherâs think of him (especially Kacchan), itâs kind of amazing that even though Katsuki kept on pushing him away, Izuku never fully stayed away because of an insatiable greediness and selfishness about Katsuki he doesnât seem to have with anyone else.Â
I like to think that maybe he saw through Kacchanâs rejection of him. Let himself keep the tiny hope that if he ever completely let go, Kacchan might feel the same loneliness Izuku would if they werenât in each otherâs lives anymore and so he couldnât, because he didnât want either of them hurting anymore than they already were. But whatever his reasons were to not let go, his intuition was right because we start to watch Katsukiâs pov gradually turn into a slow burn complete w/ pining especially in the school briefs.
After everything thatâs happened until now, itâs pretty clear they both just want to be loved and needed by the other and have never come to terms with the fact that they already have been, right from the start.
Katsukiâs desire to be loved by Izuku really shows when he throws all f*s for common sense to the wind and chooses to go out fighting, because he thinks thatâs what it takes and what Izuku would expect or want of him. The futility of it all makes it seem pointless but in the grand scheme also provides meaning to Katsukiâs biggest ode of love dedicated to Izuku, yet.
I wish Kacchan had chosen to live, but for the bigger picture and end game that we canât see right now, I understand why it had to happen like this. Itâs just... this entire âfightâ was too brutal for âKacchan loversâ to watch, (Kohei-sensei, Sir...) but this is also why I can be sure we have the most loved-up, emotionally gratifying reunification of these two yet to come. The worst is over⊠itâs uphill from here.
And we know Izuku wants Katsuki to love him because he always wanted to prove himself to him, improve his opinion of him, and try to make Katsuki as comfortable as much as he possibly can. Heâs always trying to put Katsukiâs feelings into consideration, with everything he says... and doesnât say...
Like his real feelings about how important Kacchan is to him because he thinks theyâll gross him out⊠assumptions that could have been true⊠once, when Kacchan couldnât see his insecurities, but I just donât think those assumptions are true anymore and they havenât been since DvK2 and them clearing up some misunderstandings. There are still more left that need to be resolved!
Izuku doesnât understand Kacchan not only allows himself to love Izuku to pieces now but possibly needs to hear those feelings Izuku is so scared to expose to him. His biggest fear this whole time has been that Izuku will leave him. Thatâs why he has to go faster, he has to keep up. And itâs heartbreaking.
Kacchan doesnât know no matter how fast Izuku can go he wouldnât ever leave him behind because Izuku needs him on like a deeply emotional and spiritual level that maybe Izuku assumed is only natural and something so obvious for them like the sky being blue so you think you donât ever need to point it out.Â
Their lack of communication always gets them in trouble⊠theyâve had it during the entire series. Is it expecting too much for an end of it at this point? I hope not.
The miscommunication should get thrown out now, for them to understand and consolidate the most important things they feel about each other:Â
Izuku loves and needs Kacchan in his life, which is why he would do ANYTHING for him... heâs his heart, and Kacchan feels the same in return and needs to know that Izuku will stay by his side always, no matter how fast either of them is going. He needs Izuku to tell him directly. And while these are already absolutely true, their feelings and hearts still havenât connected yet and thatâs why Kacchanâs character feels âunfinishedâ for me. He still doesnât know how important he is to Izuku and that he is practically the key to Izukuâs heart and power! Izuku needs to give him a big cuddle and reassure Kacchan that he will never leave him behind. And Kacchan needs to tell Izuku to stop assuming everything on his own, allow himself to be greedy and say how he really feels to him or he wonât ever know or be able to do anything about it, and quite frankly, this was probably having a go at him on that issue:Â
Just like you neither saw my feelings for you nor told me your own back then.
âDonât go off playing hero by yourself!â / âDonât go making assumptions about me by yourself because youâre out of date!â/Â âCome on Izuku, tell me what it is you truly want!â
I feel like he wanted to voice all statements but Kacchan only ever managed to say one. Yet the others are also really, really important for them moving forward. Izukuâs gotta be more honest and fair to not only himself, but also to others. Katsuki wants him to keep true to his heart, to express how he feels, to take what he wants while also being open to receive whatever Katsuki wants to give him in return and then the two of them will be able to smile together again.
âHow can you smile when you deny yourself the things you truly want, when you deny yourself me?â Katsuki absolutely saw through him.
Theyâre both scared, really. That in saying how they feel the other will reject them and leave them. But Izuku is going to take one look at that AM card and instantly know that despite everything they went through up until whatever it is they feel now, their childhood friendship and memories made together were never, not even once, a lie for Katsuki.
Itâs the most real thing about their kizuna, a bond that they both understand. Izuku might realise the heartbreaking truth - he was in Kacchanâs thoughts up until the very end because the last thing he did was pull out that card from his pocket, the memento of their precious shared memory. Heâll know that just like him, Kacchan also never let go of their relationship. He is going to keep that card with him until he can make things right again, until he gets to wrap his arms around Kacchan, point out that blue sky and tell him what he needs to hear the most⊠those wonderful three words that set his entire heart on fire⊠â€ïžâđ„

BnHA Chapter 306: the beginning of the WHAT
Previously on BnHA: Nana and the Gang were all, âhey Deku, we can read your thoughts and feelings so we should already know the answer to this, but for some reason we want to quiz you on whether or not youâd be down to kill Shigaraki Tomura.â Deku was all, âum okay, well tbh, probably not seeing as Saving People has been my entire thing since literally the start of the series.â The Vestiges were all, âyes that makes perfect sense and again we already knew that, but well, good for you buddy and Iâm glad we had this talk. Anyway I guess we should ask these two cryptic fuckers in the corner to finally turn around now before we run out of -- â and then the chapter ended. Because OF COURSE IT DID.

okay! so this tells me a number of things, though
basically the minute that Hawks learned about One for All, he realized that anyone connected to Deku (e.g. Inko) would be a target for AFO. AFO wants OFA, meaning AFO wants Deku, and one of the easiest ways to get to Deku would be to target his family
Hawks therefore realized that Inko needed to be placed into protective custody
but the fact that ALL of the hero course studentsâ families (and is it only the U.A. hero course, or all of the hero course students across the country?) are being given protection tells me that Hawks and co. donât want to single Deku out as being important. so then it looks like theyâre not going to tell everyone about OFA (or at least not the public. which, good). so rather than drawing suspicion by saying âweâve got to protect everyone connected with this one kidâ, theyâre making it seem like all the U.A. kidsâ families are getting this treatment
but since the heroes are now spread so thin, they canât just send a protective detail to each and every family, so theyâre bringing all of the families to the same place instead to better keep an eye on them
so thatâs all well and good, and a very smart move. except that idk how all of this is going to go over with the general public, all of whom are probably feeling unsafe at the moment, and who will probably see this as preferential treatment -- basically just the heroes looking after their own and leaving everyone else to fend for themselves

Right except MHA is still a story with a heavy focus on reconciliation and atonement. Endeavor-Todoroki storyline and Bakugou and Midoriyaâs storyline also arenât the exceptions, the LOV are like the biggest example of this. Iâm not saying people arenât allowed to have opinions either, I just donât get why people read BNHA, then get mad when the story does exactly what it basically set out to do from the jump. Telling a story about someone undeserving was never in the cards, so what Iâm saying is, why are people upset/shocked about that not being how the story goes.
I also donât think BNHA has a âfatal flaw of stripping away the agency the victims haveâ specifically when weâre talking about Midoriya/Todoroki. Disregarding occasional painful lukewarm writing on Horikoshiâs part (which Iâm sure we can both agree on), Todoroki & Midoriya have agency in their plotlines? Midoriya outright says Todoroki is deciding whether or not to forgive Endeavor depending on his behavior. When Bakugou apologizes he doesnât force Midoriya to become his friend again, in fact he gives that decision to Midoriya, who still hasnât actually given his final say on the matter. Neither has Todoroki. Both Endeavor and Bakugou grapple with the fact that just because they apologize and change, doesnât mean theyâre owed forgiveness. Something Bakugou also says in his apology, I believe?
I will say thatâs a fair point that you donât necessarily agree that itâs âgood writingâ, mostly because I agree that Horikoshi has somewhat fumbled Bakugouâs character in more recent chapters. That being said, I hope you can understand what I mean by this!
Every time I see people complain that MHAâs âbiggest problemsâ are the âEndeavor-Todorokiâ storyline and the âBakugou-Midoriyaâ storyline it makes me feel really smart because what did these people think was going to happen in the story about reconciliation and atonement. Why are you reading the reconciliation and atonement story and being shocked when major plot lines surround reconciliation and atonement.

Out of curiosity, can you elaborate on your issues with Bakugo's character arc? Because, frankly, I think he has one of the better "bully turned rival turned friend" arcs I have seen in a shonen manga in a while. His character being so nuanced is part of the reason why I haven't lost hope on Horikoshi, even if some cracks in his writing are definitely showing.
IâŠÂ have a lot of thoughts and they are all over the place. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and is heavily influenced by my frustration with other series (especially shonen). What doesnât work for me may work for others and thatâs fine.
One of the reasons I found Bakugou (and Midoriya) interesting at first was because it seemed that their relationship was going to avoid the imo overdone cliches of rivalries in shonen. Especially because it depicted relentless, cruel bullying seriously, or at least more seriously that, say, what Naruto and Sasuke had (at first at least).Â
Midoriya had clear mental scars (that exist to this day, though Bakugouâs responsibilty for them seems to be sorta handwaved, more on that on a second*) and while he admired Bakugou for his powers and guts, he also resented him (for good reason!) and had no interest in either converting him to the light nor being his friend, he just wanted to be left alone. On the other hand Bakugouâs issues with Midoriya were less âIâm a lonely, traumatized shithead with a heart of gold that hides that he rly wants friends deep downâ and more of a âeverybody in my life has gassed me up as the best thing ever created and anybody even thinking I need help feels like a personal insultâ.Â
There is too much baggage there for me to ever buy them as close friends. Forgiveness? Respect? Yeah I can see that, but thereâs a point of no return for friendships and bullying somebody for more than ten years and telling them to kill themselves is, for me, a point of no return. Just like Endeavor abusing his family is a point of no return. You get that atonement dude, doesnât mean your family owes you shit.
This also ties to a lesson that shonen series in general refuse to confront, that... not everybody is going to like you, even if you are the most perfect cinnamon roll to ever exist. Even if you go through character development.
Bakugou owes Midoriya an apology, he doesnât owe him a friendship. And Midoriya doesnât owe Bakugou forgiveness OR a friendship. They both found good friendships without the baggage in other places and forcing BFF on them cause SHONEN OPPOSITES is... incredibly boring to me.Â
I donât mind Bakugou changing, but I feel there should be consequences for how he acted. I find that waaaaay more interesting than âbully eventually realizes main character is awesome now that heâs powerful and can beat his ass, they hug it out and they become buddiesâ. It also imo robs Midoriya of one of his most interesting âflawsâ, resentment. Why should he want to forgive and forget? Even if Bakugou finally apologizes to him, why does he owe him a friendship? *Ok back to the scars thing, which ties with my issues with All Mightâs relationship with both kids.
Bakugou shouldnât have been the first to learn about AFO/OFA and that he did before he properly repented and apologized to Midoriya places a huge cloud on his redemption, because to me it looks like he had to learn All Mightâs legacy lives on Deku and thatâs what makes his live worthy of... living.Â
Any nice gesture Bakugou now makes towards him will now have me wondering âwould he do this if he didnât know Midoriya was all thatâs left of AMâs legacy? If he didnât have a quirk?â
There are two main sources of Midoriyaâs need to prove himself to the point of disregarding his own life. One of them is the huge weight All Might has placed on his shoulders. Heâs the living legacy of a man he idolizes and never questions, a man that doesnât seem to be taking this as seriously as he should. The other is that he was called a quirkless, useless loser for most of his life.Â
To Midoriya, his worth lies on using his borrowed quirk to save people, not on his heart, not on his guts, not on his brains. And the only people he can talk about it are the folks that caused those issues in the first place. Thatâs heartbreaking.Â
One last point, itâs all about the tone. Hori wants to have his cake and eat it too
We are supposed to find Bakugouâs bullying horrifying⊠but also amusing? Bakugou throwing his pointy costume at Midoriya would be slapstick hilarious⊠if they didnât have the history they have. So what is it Hori? Was it so bad it left mental scars on your protagonist or ok enough that we can joke about it and everything is leading up to them being BFF in the near future?Â
You canât have both.Â

(Y/N)âs father returned the next morning. The storm was long gone and was replaced by the clear blue sky. They had opened up their store, as usual, made bread and followed the routine. Shoto insisted on helping out however he could but he knew he had to figure something out. He couldnât stay at their place forever.Â
The afternoon slump rolled over so the (L/N) family decided it was time to address the issue. Except (Y/N), none of them knew why Shoto came to their house, all drenched. (Y/N)âs mother offered to look after the store while (Y/N) and her father sat Shoto down for a conversation.Â
âI owe you an explanation. Iâm grateful to your wife and daughter didnât ask me much and accepted me into the house. Iâll tell you everything,â Shoto said to (Y/N)âs father.
(Y/N), sitting beside Shoto, looked at him, and said, âYou donât have to force yourself.â
âThank you but itâs fine. Your parents should know about it,â Shoto said.Â
âTake your time. I just want to know a little so I can understand the situation. We just want to help you,â (Y/N)âs father said, calmly.
âThank you, (L/N)-san,â Shoto replied.Â
Shoto explained everything to (Y/N)âs father excluding the thing with his mother and his scar. He just told him that his mother wasnât living in the same house as him.
(Y/N)âs father listened intently, processing the situation at hand and trying to think of a solution. âI understand where youâre coming from. I wonât force you to return but you need to figure this out. Iâll see what I can do, you can stay at our place for the time being. Itâs Saturday today so we still have time before school so we can take things one at a time.âÂ
âThank you so much. How can I repay your kindness?â Shoto asked, genuinely feeling supported by an adult for the first time in his life.Â
âItâs completely normal to help someone out. Like I always encourage (Y/N) to help people out if she can. So itâs our pleasure. In return, please take care of (Y/N),â (Y/N)âs father said with a kind smile.
âPapa!â (Y/N) said.Â
âIâll do my best. Iâll help however I can while I figure things out,â Shoto replied.Â
(Y/N) didnât say much and let the two converse. She wanted the best for Shoto. She was really grateful that her parents were so understanding and supportive otherwise she couldnât have done anything for Shoto. She wanted to be there for him in any way possible.Â
The conversation continued till (Y/N)âs mother came to the living room and said, âTodoroki-kun, someone is here to see you.â
Shoto expected it to be Hirugami since his father wouldnât just leave him be. He sighed and stood up, getting ready to sternly tell Hirugami to leave. Shoto walked out of the living room, following (Y/N)âs mother. (Y/N) quickly joined Shoto.
Shoto and (Y/N) walked out of the bakery as that is where (Y/N)âs mother said the person was. Shoto stood dead in his tracks when he saw who it was. (Y/N) bumped against him since she was walking close behind him.Â
(Y/N) looked at who it was. It was a tall man with crimson hair and turquoise eyes. Exactly like the left side of Shotoâs face. âHeâs his father, isnât he?âÂ
The man, Enji, walked up to Shoto and said, âShoto, can we talk?â
Enji looked like he didnât get any sleep and seemed rather remorseful. Shoto said harshly, âIâve got nothing to say to you anymore. Howâd you find this place?!â
âI got Hirugami to check around and he saw you here,â Enji replied.Â
âPlease, can we talk?âÂ
Shoto turned to leave but (Y/N) put her hand on his shoulder and said, âAt least hear him out, okay? You can decide what to do later.â
Shoto hesitated and then said with a sigh, âAlright since youâre telling me to.â
(Y/N) gave him a worried smile and Shoto turned around, âIâll listen for a bit.â
âThank you, Shoto. You too, miss. Thank you for asking him to listen,â Enji said, truly grateful to have Shoto hear him out.Â
Shoto begrudgingly sat down at the chairs outside the bakery. Fortunately, there werenât any customers so they wouldnât bother anyone. (Y/N) went inside to give them privacy. Shoto wished for her to be there but he didnât want to involve her directly with his father.Â
The father and son sat in silence for a good bit. Shoto rolled his eyes, not expecting anything from Enji except him trying to drag him back home.Â
âShoto...I-â
Enji looked directly at Shoto, bowed his head down, and said, âIâm so sorry, Shoto.â Â
âIâm sorry?â Shoto said.
âIs that what youâre here for?! A measly apology?!â
âShoto, I thought about what you said yesterday. I-I didnât realize that I wasnât thinking of you...I was only thinking about myselfâŠ,â Enji said, quietly.Â
A sorry state to see him like that because Enji was always loud and confident but the man that sat before Shoto was truly pathetic. Maybe he was truly sorry. Not that apology would erase the trauma he had inflicted upon his family.
âNow you realize? All my life, you controlled every single thing I did. You drove mom crazy and sent her to the hospital. And now youâre sorry?!â
âI know what I did was unforgivable. I wonât ask for your forgiveness or Reiâs but I want the chance to make things rightâŠ,â Enji said, strain in his voice. Â
Shoto spat back, âYou think Iâll believe your words? Saying things is easy but actually doing something isnât that simple. I donât believe you can change.â
âI donât expect you to believe me right away but know that I want to change. I spent last night reflecting everything Iâve done and I know Iâve wronged many people. I took the day off today to come to you and apologize.â
âRei doesnât want to see me at all so I left her a letter instead. I canât take back what Iâve done but I want to at least do things right from now on,â Enji said, head still hanging down.
He truly was apologetic for his past actions but only time will tell if it was all bark and no bite or not.Â
Shoto looked away from Enji, not saying anything else. He felt it was futile and letting out his anger at him didnât make him feel any better.Â
âI wonât force you to come home with me but I hope you will understand that you canât stay at this place forever. Iâll thank this bakeryâs owner. Truly, Iâm really sorry. I regret how I treated you and your mother.â
Enji stood up to go into the bakery and Shoto didnât say a word. He couldnât believe that Enji would feel sorry. Or ever reflect on his own actions. His head was in a mess, he couldnât really believe anything Enji said. He grew up knowing his father to be a self-centered man who only saw his own ambitions and never cared about anyone. This âapologyâ from Enji really threw him off. Shoto could never forgive him but a sliver of hope unexpectedly grew in him that Enji would change.Â
Shoto sighed as (Y/N) walked to him. âYou okay?â
âNo, not really,â Shoto said with a deep sigh.
âI donât know what you guys talked about but I know you can get through it. You can talk to me, Iâm here for you,â (Y/N) said, softly.
Before Shoto could reply, Enji came out of the bakery. âGoodbye, Shoto, miss (L/N). Your bakery is lovely.âÂ
Enji left and Shoto felt he could breathe again. Shoto turned to (Y/N) and sighed.Â

Bro you're one of the few writers that actually treat bakugou like an actual character rather than an unforgivable villain of some sort and I'm so grateful,, like so many fics I've seen either blow his actions out of proportion or straight up ignore his character development while following canon events and I just, get so Done with those

Bakugou is one of my favorite characters. I donât often talk about him too much online, because there is a large portion of the fandomâand Iâm sure, even in my own followingâthat doesnât like Bakugou. I prefer to express my sentiment in my writing, and leave the rest to conversations with friends.Â
Iâve written a little about it somewhere on my blog, though I canât find the post. I think itâs valid and I understand why people donât like Bakugou; those people are allowed to not like his character, just as I should be allowed to. Personally, I find him interesting and complex. I donât wish to compare him to other characters in a bid of who is worse (as I disagree with otherâs opinions on that regard). And I, as a responsible and civil adult, know how to express my opinions, how to pick my battles, and navigate fandom waters.Â
I like Bakugou. I love him. I have no issues with people who dislike himâwe have different experiences, opinions, and tastes. But I think regardless of what you think of Bakugou, you should still treat his character as it is; to respect Horikoshi and the narrative, by considering Bakugou as a character defined not only by the past and current canon but also where he could go in the future. And respect fans with different opinions than yours.Â
Itâs just disheartening for me, sometimes. I have made friends with, know, follow, and am in a community that does not like Bakugou. Thatâs okay if you donât. I do not think less of them, nor do I judge them, and I think theyâre all wonderful peopleâI try to shape my own fandom experience as best I can. But every now and then itâs frustrating for me, because I feel limited on my own platform or in my own circles, to see a character I like often bashed, heavily criticized, etc.Â
In my writing I treat him as I think I should, and how I see him.Â
Disclaimer: My writing does not tend to be about what I think Bakugou âdeserves,â to excuse him, to apologize for him or otherwise. It is not ignorance on my part of what heâs done or the behavior and actions heâs exhibited. But there is also little reason for people to explain those things to me, because I, as a critical consumer of media, am well aware of that and choose to continue liking and writing about Bakugou. And I also donât owe any person an explanation of why I like him, why I write about him, etc; though I am willing to share, does not mean I have to.Â

After reading your last ask, I feel the same way about k*tsuki and how badly he bullied my good boi mido. I don't understand why the fandom likes him and I probably never will, but I do hold deep resentment against my bully and I just wish that midoriya calls out this explodo bitch!!!!
BIG SAME, NONY. Iâm glad that you agree with me because oof so many people in this fandom excuse that bullyâs behavior and itâs exhausting. Izuku is such a good kid and a sweetheart and like he does things that Iâm like okay fine, it can be seen as nerdy and sometimes people donât like that he analyzes them. He canât please everyone and keep in mind, he has been isolated from having friends because of the bullying so I would imagine he doesnât know some social cues, too? So like give this child a break, he is doing his best and doesnât mean any harm by his behavior (unless heâs determined to kick a villainâs ass then by all means fuck them up, Izuku). Also nony, you donât have to forgive your abuser if you donât want to. You donât owe them anything and frankly they donât deserve your forgiveness because they did bad things to you so fuck them. k*tsukiâs popularity is confusing and leaves a bad taste in my mouth because like I understand that itâs fiction and everyone loves using that as an excuse to love him, but Iâm over here like lmfao??? I got bullied for 4 years by the same girl and she would go for my disability, too. ANd she never apologized, and I never forgave her. So I take it so personal, you understand, since you also hold these deep feelings about your bully. SO LIKE itâs just infuriating and pretty nauseating to witness how this fandom kisses a bullyâs ass and calls him soft and pretty and cute and precious baby, like please get away from me, I canât believe what Iâm reading. Are we reading the same thing because??? He is none of those things?? He is a literal asshole. So YEAH Izuku really does deserve better and he deserves better friends if he considers someone like HIM a friend. He has the entirety of class 1A (sans m*neta) RIGHT THERE. What is Izuku waiting for? This friendship canât be any more forced because it hasnât reached its peak yet, but Horikoshi is delivering the bullshit so faithfully and I donât trust his driving.
