two years. two years I waited to see what the heck was going to happen with this. bnha is just so stupidly inconsistent that I didnt know if she would be healed in a flash, or maybe it would regrow, or maybe shed always just have one ear.

its was always my one major hangup about the fight, that it seemed so stupid to lose half her eficiency for her entire life of recon over this. it felt like an unfair reduction of her power, that one blast against AFO was worth more than her whole future as a hero (sonar support is a way way more powerful use of her quirk than sonic damage in my opinion even if its less flashy)

I always figured Horikoshi just wanted to redesign her and liked the visual of this injury as a horror author (i remember seeing people post on Tumblr yeah, homegirl just took the most violating injury in the series fuck you man) but had no idea what the redesign Was. A few times he drew a pretty clearly one-jack design (like the back cover of volume 37 right?) so I resigned to that

but this is... a great recovery. no, im not happy he maimed my blorbo for this. three people see in the hospital after the battle are the main three dudes.. and the other injuries were only, I swear to god, stupid fucking endeavor/hawks... and then goddam jiro and miriko. why would you go THAT FAR down the relevance list to injure them? no hero deaths and yet two random women characters were gored up... its obvious to everyone he just finds women in pain beautiful

setting the meta layer aside... having grown alongside this battle for 2 years, i appreciate it. in a war full of everyheroes, jiro was THE everyhero, the run of the mill somebody.that haunted afo worst. she was willing to stake everything to mess with him, and it worked, and it definitely served as one of the biggest surprises in the series. tokoyami was made for the frontlines with his quirk, and there was no surprise about him aiding hawks. but jiro was a HUGE trick and frankly, in-universe, I do think tokoyami and jiro were portrayed authentically. even if shes best as support, she can make those tough decisions and, as evidenced by the fight, has the nerve to pull it off. shes also among the smallest in 1-A, and had the perfect quirk for hands free aerial combat! they did a great job and were surprise standouts of the stupidly long and side-chara-loaded last arc

so then... "you knew what you were signing up for." "im glad the demon king didnt take more." jiro had to be one of the only people to pay for her heroics. does that fit her? it's not like home girl has a lot going on, her arc is just like.. I care about my friends. but she does have the theme of thriving through amplifying your powers with technology.

its part of why momojiro is so great! any tech they can imagine, they can make. since the very first fights momo has been able to arm her, and she's been utilizing tech like the boot speakers and ultimately those mobile plug-in attack boosers. i quite like that probably her ultimate skill in sonar used nothing but her jacks and listening skills, but you cant deny shes always synergized with tech and equiptment more than most characters.

so.. ending off her story as someone who has hearing loss and relies on an aid is pretty powerful. this robot jack might be even more useful than her flash jack was, who knows. It can probably be modified while still connecting to her body systems! she may even be able to listen at a superhuman level. it's surprising that I never saw it coming after all this time because it fits great, and I think she's going to have a great future using it.

I'm shocked honestly. this was a truly inspired choice and it opens up the floodgates to a whole world of new techniques and opportunities that she can only have as somebody biologically connected to assistive technology, sort of an ultimate form that she arrived at through unfortunate means. I truly hope this resonates with some people in similar situations, even if real life doesn't always provide those silver linings.

The heroes are finishing off the Noumu. We got Gran Torino who really should have retired years ago, Ryuukyuu, Endeavour who Shouto is still very conflicted about and hasn't resolved any issues with yet, Rock Lock who has a whole ass family, Thirteen, and a bunch of other no names.

BnHA Chapter 283: I'M MARY POPPINS Y’ALL

Previously on BnHA: Everyone was all, “Tomura what do you have?” and Tomura was all,” a quirk bullet!” and they were all, “NO!!” He then threw the bullet at Aizawa, who ironically actually did have a knife, and since no one bothered to say “no!!” this time he proceeded to CHOP OFF HIS OWN LEG. Just, schwoop. Lopped it right off. Didn��t even fucking care. Anyway so then Tomura was all, “you know what who even needs quirk bullets” and somehow broke free from both Deku and Ryuukyuu to go claw off Aizawa’s face. Thankfully Todoroki “I've spent the past eight chapters puttering around waiting for the coolest moment to strike” Shouto finally decided to join the fray by impaling Tomura, and everyone was all, “ahaha, classic Shouto”, and Tomura was all, “don’t worry though I’m fine”, and it seems like he really is now, since he’s finally regenerated and all his wounds have healed again! The chapter ended with Gigantomachia stampeding towards Jakku, which is super terrible, but what else is fucking new.

Today on BnHA: The Gunga kids spend a few pages standing around letting all that trauma soak in nice and deep as Machia rampages on towards Jakku. Back in the Shigaraki Wastes, the heroes regroup, which mostly consists of the remaining conscious adults tearfully being all “you kids get out of here... save yourselves...” and the kids being all “YOU JUST SIT THERE AND CHILL, DAD” and “[EXPLETIVES]” and “I’M YOUNG AND FILLED WITH RIGHTEOUS SHOUNEN RAGE”, all of which is very entertaining to me and makes me very proud. Anyway so then Tomura’s body sort of explodes a bit, and he’s all, “what”, and then it finally sinks in that he might have popped out of the toaster early, so he tries to end the fight right there and then with another round of Decay. Except that Deku counters it by SPONTANEOUSLY LEARNING HOW TO FLY, which is probably SO CONFUSING for all the non-Gran-and-Kacchan people around, which is just one of the many things I love about it. And the other things I love about it are that it’s (1) THE MOST BADASS THING EVER, and (2) just, really fucking great. So yeah. Rage, Deku, rage.

-- okay I just checked and it’s 18. so, 18 arcs. and out of all those arcs, Deku has had a solo fight in approximately... five of them. and two of those fights were against Bakugou and Todoroki, respectively, so he was still sharing the spotlight even then. aside from that, he’s fought Muscular, Gentle, and Overhaul (oh, and Shinsou, I guess). that’s it! and it’s been almost 300 chapters! and again, he’s the main character. in a shounen manga. like seriously though, that is wild

and so seeing him here like this on the last page, ready to throw hands with Tomura, presumably while using Blackwhip as some sort of physical barrier to coat his attacks and prevent Tomura from trying any more Decay shenanigans with him? dude. I FELT THAT HYPE. it’s just a really effective way of keeping me from getting Main Character Fatigue like I might get in most other shounen series. because Deku doesn’t get the spotlight all that often in comparison, it still feels fresh to me, especially now with him actually going up against the Big Bad. just, idk what else to say except “hell yeah” lol

anyway, so I don’t even know how long it’s gonna last, and I expect that Kacchan and Shouto aren’t going to be content to just sit back and let Deku have all the glory either (Kacchan in particular is probably frothing at the mouth already), so in all likelihood it’s probably going to be more of a 3-on-1 than a 1-on-1. and it’s also very likely to end with Tomura gaining the upper hand and trying to take OFA! and so in truth this is a very fleeting moment of triumph, and the most premature of celebrations! but even so... damn. and also I just love seeing shounen kids lose their damn minds and explode with angry determination. and I especially love seeing it with Deku, because I love the reminder that beneath that sweet, unassuming nerdy exterior lies a core of fucking steel. that look in his eyes, though. TOMURA ARE YOU SCARED. you should be a little scared, lmao

anyway. so that’s the chapter! and I’m really glad we ended on this note, not just because Deku is a badass, but also because like I was saying earlier, this was about as bad a situation as the good guys have ever been in, and I felt like the manga was starting to lose that feeling of hope that still needs to be there at its core even when things are at their darkest. idk, I feel like we needed this. Tomura got a chance to catch his breath in the last chapter, and now it’s the heroes’ turn. whew

Wait does that mean Aizawa can't see him? ARE THEY SEPERATED FROM GRAN TORINO?!?!?! Shigaraki's body looks like it's breaking apart and, again, I don't know how to feel about that.

I'd be more at ease if I knew who was going Plus Ultra. I've decided how to feel about Shigaraki's state and it's concern for his and everyone else's well being. But right now it's mostly his.

Shiggy flashes back to that bitch that left him on the street and it still pisses me off that not a single soul stopped to help him.

Shiggy says that the filth turns into rot, which turns into decay.

So he's basically blaming the heroes for coddling society into a false sense of safety and an over dependents on heroes. As a result, the people who are left behind, the ones who really needs saving like he did, are ignored and cast out. Those people are left with no other choice but to retaliate and cause destruction.

As deranged and insane his rantingbmust sound, he's not entirely wrong. His whole situation could have been avoided had the people around him not been so over dependent on heroes and had actually reached out to help him. I mean, none of them even bothered to call the police. HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW SOMEONE NEEDS HELP IF YOU DON'T FUCKING CALL- no. I'm not gonna rant about this. Aw man the anger is coming back.

Am I an idiot or was his arm always attached to his body? Whatever, not important right now. What is important is how fucking scary Shigaraki looks here. I am very concerned for his well being. I want the heroes to win but not if that means Shiggy dies.

Endeavour launches a butt tonne of fire at him saying he's already dead but Shiggy manages to dodge.

Endeavour is wondering how the he'll Shiggy is even moving rn while Gran Torino pins Shiggy to the ground. GT is thinking about how Endeavour's fire power has dropped tremendously, which obviously means he's overheating and should very much not be fighting right now.

GT is thinking about how Shigaraki should also not be able to move when said person spins around and crushes his leg.

OH SHIT HE'S GONNA KILL HIM ISN'T HE??? In front of everyone. Oh no. That face looks alot like the one he made when he killed his dad.

Oh fuck he's having a flashback. He really is gonna die. It's Nana giving Kotoro away with GT lurking on a nearby rooftop.

Nana explains that she basically removed any evidence of him being her son and her speech bubbles go from straight to incredibly wobbly the more she talks about him all while Kotoro's words echo in the background.

Present day GT is on the ground in obvious pain and he thinks "Shimura, our decision--". Does that mean he had a say in what happened to Kotoro? Or does he mean her decision to give him away and his decision to stay away?

He is beyond dead. Huh. I thought I'd be more emotional about it. Oh well.

Giving Kotoro away really tore Nana apart. All that heartache and AFO still managed to fuck with her family.

I don't know why it took me so long to react to GT's death. I was ready to freak out about and then it was like all the emotion left me. Am I becoming desensitized to all this violence and death? That can't be right, only two people are confirmed dead. Maybe Twice just took everything out of me.

We cut back to The Boys and Shouto some how manages to catch Izuku as well and is currently having a panic attack over his dad and two bffs being on death's door. Their all still alive tho so that's good. Someone please help this poor child.

You literally can't do anything. Tomura looks like some kind of demon.

Speaking of Tomura, he's sounding awfully confident for someone who's regen speed has decrease significantly. I swear fighting him is like fighting the fucking Ender Dragon except the regen boxes can't be destroyed.

SO ANYWAYS BACK TO THE REAL FIGHT

Toga starts talking about why she does what she does and brings that time Curious almost killed her. Damn I haven't thought about Curious since the my villain academia arc. Ochako looks understandably horrified by this and girls start attacking each other.

Now Toga is talking about Ochako's super obvious crush on Izuku and how that makes them the same while Ochako prepares for another surprise attack.

OMG SHE USED HER QUIRK ON HER SURROUNDINGS DURING THE FIGHT. She's calling them Zero Satellites. You love to see it. Ochako yells at Toga to give back the keychain and Toga looks like she about to pull an Ending.

So Toga dipped and left the keychain behind and is thinking about how she got her answer while looking very depressed about it. Meanwhile Ochako looks kinda concern because she also notice the tears in Toga's eyes.

(Edit: upon my second reading of this I realised the narration is supposed to be Twice's final thoughts as he dies.)

Me and you both Dabi. I guess it couldn't have been that easy, Hawks is the hero of the story after all.

The fact that Hawks save Twice too, even tho he was just trying to kill him 5 seconds ago.

Dabi burnt most of Hawks' feathers and his wings are toast so he's got himself in quite the pickle. Hawks points out that Dabi almost burnt Twice to a crisp and Dabi says "It's fine. I knew you were gonna save him cause that's what heroes do" like the sarcastic little shit he is.

Hawks is wondering how Dabi knew it was him and if his cover was blown and Dabi gets all dramatic and says he never trusted him from the beginning, which makes you wonder why Dabi brought him in in the first place but whatever.

Hawks starts thinking about how fucked he is and that he'll have to move Twice so he can kill him in peace, but then Twice wakes up.

Twice yells at Dabi to burn Hawks to a crisp which of course Dabi obliges, shooting a wall of fire at morally grey best bird boi. Dabi gives Twice a little pep talk about how he can get rid of all these heroes singlehandedly and the two of them high five each other as Twice goes to wreak havoc on the world.

But Hawks isn't the kinda guy to be scare of a little fire. He works with Endeavour for God's sake.

Oh no!!!

The fact that Hawks can fly at all with his burnt ass wings is a miracle. Hawks is pretty fucking adamant about killing Twice. This is what his years of training and lack of childhood has been leading up to.

How the FUCK does Dabi know Hawks' real name? It was acceptable with Shouto cause the sports festival was a thing. It was kinda believable with Endeavour cause No. 1 Hero and also he has a family and shit. But as far as I know, no one in cannon knows Hawks' real name beside the Hero Commission. So... HOW???

(I swear if it comes out that Touya and Hawks somehow knew each other as kids I-)

Horikoshi has some pretty big balls to be posing the question we are all dying to have answered only to... not answer it. He's just fucking with us at this point and I don't know how I feel about that.

Anyway, we get a panel of Twice telling himself to protect his friends and that he can't betray the kindness they've shown him, and I find myself thinking, not for the first time, that Twice would've made an excellent hero because Hawks is right. Twice is a genuinely nice person and it sucks he ended up turning to villainy.

Right so Twice makes two clones. One jumps of the balcony, presumably to go help Toga and Compress, and the other is turned to goo by Hawks' feathers.

Twice starts narrating about how much his life sucks as Hawks jumps through the flame behind him while armed with his feather sword. I don't like where this is going.

Then we get a panel of the fighting between the heroes and the villains and we can see someone falling over the balcony followed by blood splatter and... a napkin?

We then cut to Toga and Compress who are not having fun time right now. A hero with giant snakes coming out of his arms has them captured

This bitch really just said Itadakimasu I'm done.

What does Compress mean by "skill"? Is he talking about that thing she did to Deku during the provisional licence arc? When she was pretending to be Camie? To be honest I forgot she could do that up until now.

The hero is ranting about how this is the end for the LoV only to cut off by Twice stabing (?) him in the back of the head with something.

Toga and Compress start to celebrate because if Twice is here then the tides are in their favour, but something about him seems off.

So... Hawks pushed him off the balcony? Or is he referring to the clone. I'm so confused right now. Either way, that's one hell of a fall.

(Edit: When Twice said he was "back-stabbed by Hawks" I thought he ment metaphorically cause that's what happened. Then I read the manga again and realised he meant he was literally back-stabbed by Hawks. OG Twice is dead/dying, that's why this clone can't hold himself together.)

I can't imagine the LoV is gonna take this very well. I'm not taking this well and I'm rooting for the heroes. I don't think Hawks is gonna survive this, but I do think he'll find out who Dabi is before he kicks the bucket. Horikoshi's probably not gonna show the identity reveal tho, the little fucking tease he is. Feeding off our misery and frustration like a fucking succubus feeds off sex.

Why is Tokoyami remembering this now of all times? Is this another death flag for Hawks? After what happened last chapter most definitely yes.

Fataxi lol. He's embraced his true calling. And he's got all the kids now! Now that Mudman and Chargebolt had a taste of blood they want more. I'm glad the kids are heading back to the rear tho.

Fat explains to the kids what Midnight said to them before the raid started, that they only needed the kids for a little bit and then it's off to the rear with them, and they meant that shit. Now it's the adults turn to wreak havoc on the villains and as Fat says this we can see Dabi's fire exploding out of the top floor of the mansion. This catches Tokoyami's attention and he looks back just in time to see not really see him but the line of fire that follows him as he flies at moc 2 around the mansion Hawks fly out and away from it. Tokoyami better not do what I think he's gonna do.

In case you were, for whatever reason, in denial about Twice dying.

Holy shit Hawks' wings are practically non existent at this point. Like, all that's left is the outline of their bones and that's it. He looks terrible and is still very much on fire. Dabi's fire is getting hotter. Is that because he's pissed?

Dabi congratulates Hawks on his heroic deed of committing a murder and stomp down on Hawks so he won't go anywhere not like he can, he got no wings.

There he is! I was starting to get worried since Horikoshi hasn't shown us anything gory for a while.

Anyway. Dabi's got this unhinged looking grin on his face and Hawks is like "Yo what the fuck? I just killed your friend and you don't look to broken up about it." Dabi responds by saying his tear ducts are burnt so he's physically incapable of crying and that Twice was the key to achieving what he wanted so of course he's sad, heartbroken even. What a great friend you had Twice.

Hawks says he researched everyone in the league and the only people who came up empty was one crusty boi and one burnt boi.

We get a flashback from Hawks to when the commission first brought him in and they tell him he's part of a special program to make super powerful heroes and that training is gonna be incredibly difficult. They ask if he can handle it and Hawks says yeah not like he has much choice.

OH MY GOD HE WANTED TO SHINE LIKE ENDEAVOUR CAUSE HE SAVED HIM. Ya did a little more than beat up bad guys but that's not what we're talking about here. Is it finally gonna happen? Are we FINALLY gonna have a Dabi reveal???

HORIKOSHI YOU BITCH! I fucking knew he was gonna pull some shit like this! God fucking damnit! You know, I'm more upset with myself for hoping. Shit. If that speech bubble isn't blacked out in the viz translations I'll be very happy.

Judging by Hawks' reaction the Dabi's true identity is super shocking. HMMMMM I WONDER WHO IT COULD BE TO HAVE GARNERED SUCH A REACTION FROM OUR RESIDENT BURNT CHICKEN HMMMMM.

I don't really understand what Dabi is saying here. I think it might be how it's worded.

Dabi goes on to say Hawks shouldn't have focused on the league, that one man's philosophy can change the world and that he is the "ultimate manifestation of Stain's will".

Dabi says goodbye to Hawks and that doesn't give a shit about Hawks' life and death and we see the start of his fire on Hawks' face only to immediately cut to Giganto. He's staring at the radio in his hands, probably waiting on Shigaraki to wake the fuck up and give him something to do. I swear if Hawks ends up dying too I-

We cut again back to Jakku where Her royal Highness, Queen of ignoring personal health and the long term effects it has on your body, Miruko who is not having a fun time with the Noumu.

The Noumu are adapting to her moves and, as a result, are causing them to be ineffective. Despite this, Miruko said fuck it and is now charging towards where Ujiko and Shiggy are.

The Noumu are not pleased with this latest development and the one with the weird spine hat thing attacks her, successfully injuring one of her ears and grazing her side. Another Noumu manages to rip off a fist full of her hair too. Horikoshi is entering dangerous waters now.

Miruko is thinking "If I'm dying today I'm taking Shigaraki and the doctor with me" while bleeding like she has an unlimited amount of it in her body. I would very much like it if Miruko didn't die too. We can't have two potential character deaths in one chapter. I refuse it.

Miruko is in the room with Ujiko and Shigaraki and it looks like she might actually win.

NOPE NEVER MIND! Horikoshi's just killing off everyone this arc, huh? No one is safe from him.

At least the Noumu went for the legs this time (;_;).

OMG Ujiko's face is, once again, hilarious. He completely shattered his goggles with his tears.

AND HERE COMES MOTHERFUCKING ENDEAVOUR. TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH. FUCK. I feel like breaking that glass tank is the last thing she should do but go off girl.

This chapter was emotionally exhausting. Like shit Horikoshi give me a break. I knew he was gonna pull some bullshit cop out with the Dabi reveal. I'm gonna do some investigating with that panel just in case Hori tries to hide something. This man really is like a succubus. Or I guess he would be an incubus.

I think Shiggy is gonna wake up because Miruko broke the tank. Giganto is gonna start throwing punches. TOKOYAMI BETTER HAS STAY ALIVE. And yeah. That's it.

Finally. God damn. I thought Erasure didn't work on the Noumu. Or maybe because he can only do one quirk at a time?

This chapter being called "Scramble" does not fill me with much hope.

Are we sure we wanna leave Crust alone with that Noumu? He was struggling so hard with the last one.

Endeavour punches a hole through the round Noumu's skull, which Horikoshi was more than happy to show us in excruciating detail, and was quite surprised to find multiple layers of bone in this dude's face.

While this is happening Aizawa yells at Endeavour to hurry up and do the thing he's already doing while thinking about how the girl Noumu and the Elephant Noumu blocked his line of sight of the Stabby McStab Noumu.

Is it just me or does her other arm look broken? Also what's up with these narrations? This coupled with the title has me a little on edge hare.

Miruko is reminding me an awful lot of Hawks when he was facing down Dabi and Twice right now. That confrontation ended with Twice dying. I have an increasingly bad feeling about this.

(Edit: I just realised they're all thinking in the past tense. Is this them narrating from the future? Like, while they give their statement or something. Very interesting indeed. Hmmm.)

How the hell is he in a tank full of liquid and his lips still look crusty? There really is no hope for him, huh?

Also, I can't tell if those are his eyes or his eyebrows but either way he looks terrifying. I am fully expecting him to open his eyes like the supposedly "dead" villains/monsters in horror movies do.

Guard it or break it? Cause that's what it looks like you're about to do. I still think it's a terrible plan but go off, Queen.

Miruko said "disregard my last statement" and shatters the tank, much to me and Ujiko's horror.

I stand by my former statement that this is a really bad idea.

Shigaraki is 74% complete, meaning he only went up by 3% since we last saw him. I feel like we're gonna have an unstable, op Shigaraki running around. Well, even more unstable than usual.

HORIKOSHI DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE. LEAVE MY MAN , AIZAWA SHOUTA, ALONE.

Good. Aizawa better stay alive and with all his senses fully functional too. I think I'd probably be more upset if he lost his sight than if he actually died. Don't get me wrong, if dies I'm gonna real fucking pissed, but loosing his sight means loosing his quirk and I think that would probably break him.

Miss Feme Fatale over here is becoming more stable. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Miruko is alright for now but I really wish Endeavour took out these to Noumu first. If Mic or Aizawa get hurt imma be real sad.

Stabby McStab goes after Miruko again and successfully impales her other leg and her remaining good arm, but Miruko said not today Satan and proceeded to use Crecent Moon Kick on Shigaraki to make sure he doesn't get up. Or to kill him. I'm not sure yet. Oh and he's at 75% now. I'm just patiently waiting for the other shoe to drop at this point.

A bunch of Ujiko's shit starts exploding but he's starting to look decidedly less worried and that concerns me. She is, however, unsuccessful in taking out Shigaraki it would seem. Stabby is dragging her away and she looks very disappointed and angry, so I'm assuming the kick didn't land.

Also, completely unrelated, Ujiko's goggles' got lenses again. That's cool.

Ok so I don't fully understand what's happening in this panel but it looks like Endeavour flew farward to catch Miruko. Ujiko is freaking out again.

I should have just read the next panel. Miruko didn't shatter the tank she cracked it. A lot. And Endeavour was flying forward to catch her. The cracks in the tank start to spread and water, or whatever it is, start spouting out through said cracks. Miruko tells Enji (I'm getting tired of typing out his hero name) that Shigaraki is in the tank and that he would kill him. This kinda feels like Ending all over again. I wonder if he'll go through with it this time.

I whole heartedly believe Shigaraki is going to wake up and that someone is gonna die as a result. The way things are looking Miruko might die either way which would be bad. I would very much like her to not die.

I don't really have much else to say about this chapter.
