Pauze The Machine: Verse 1
Pauze the machine: Verse 1 is the first series of neo-expressionism-styled digital paintings by Rochester, NY-based artist Ya'qub Shabazz. Pause the machine is layered with meaning, culture, and tradition and is also a glimpse into futurism. Inspired by the rhythms of that pure soul music that speaks to my heart, I wanted to create something that was as much about capturing a moment in time as it was about creating a vision of what's possible in the future.
I chose to use this style because of its ability to capture light, color and texture—all elements that are important to me when creating art. It also allows me to bring together multiple influences from various styles of painting into one cohesive piece. When making these works I like to think about how each one could be seen as a snapshot in time or an alternate reality where all other possibilities come together for one moment in space.
Dimensions: Various
These works are presented on the highest quality archival paper.

Mother Maya: Remembering Dr. Maya Angelou
One of my favorite literary giants, Mother Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees.
