another Nimona But Make It SPOP, this time I just wanted to make Ballister a catboy
Tumblr’s read more system on mobile seems to be broken, so I’ll try not to ramble to much. This is basically a Catra and Adora Swap AU — Ambrosius is our “Ra” here. He and Bal were raised in the Horde and he was the golden child, while Ballister was the angsty catboy that tried harder than anyone but was still scapegoated to hell and back. Ambrosius is destined to be “Ra” and finds the sword. Nimona, the same species as Double Trouble, would be more of a cross between Bow and Glimmer and stumbles across Ballister, drilling into him that the Horde is evil.
Bal defects to the rebellion and tries to stop a Horde invasion on a village. Ambrosius tries to stop Bal and Nimona’s evacuation efforts/counter attack and, not used to having a magic sword and magic powers, Things Go Wrong 🗡💪
Nimona’s backstory is still largely untold, but I like the idea of her being reluctant royalty from a kingdom that was destroyed a long, long time ago, with no explanation as to why she’s still alive hundreds of years later. Gloreth is obviously the previous “Ra.” Blitzmeyer is Entrapta, a queen here, and helps Bal with his arm. The Director has to be Shadow Weaver. I’m torn on the Queen — parallel wise she should be Hordak, but her whole thing is breaking away from tradition instead of perpetuating meaningless worship of a long gone individual in a way that denies opportunities to the underserved and curates bigotry. That’s very different from Hordak’s continuing an abusive system before fighting to break away yourself storyline (plus she’s actually royalty, so maybe she’d fit as Angella). (On the other hand, Blitzmeyer/The Queen). IDK or maybe she can be Madam Razz or Lighthope

anyways my friends activated my conlang brain and I've made smth insane as usual
Tumblr media
red is influences, blue is Elezen-family languages, green is like a mix bc I see the Alliance cities as having a trade language (that critically is limited to them).
I see Duskwight as a separate language from Black Shroud Elezen (but sharing a lot - easy enough to learn for those speakers). Coerthan and all its derivatives are a whole different language under the Elezen umbrella and isn't mutually intelligible with BSE. Because they split so early, they probably don't share much more than root words and etymologies; within the same family so not difficult to learn for other speakers of Elezen languages, but very distinctly different.
(also I'm not listing them but the branches extend to include other diaspora Elezen languages)
#saint.txt#long post#ishgardposting#I'm sorry this is so hard to see lmfao I told you people you would regret activating the unhinged part of my brain#anyways additional notes:#Duskwight is to Old Elezen what Icelandic is to Old Norse; It's the closest language to Old Elezen.#Old Ishgardian was probably heavily influenced by Dravanian but the church post-Ratatoskr probably tried to purge a lot of it.#Ysayle and the heretic faction probably use Dravanian-derived words on purpose and may have restored a lot of the old words as slang#and as shibboleths.#Liturgical Ishgardian as you'd expect is spoken in churches and by clergy. It's their version of liturgical Latin.#Proto-Ishgardian *probably* wasn't using Old Hyur as a prestige language so its influence was probably limited#(it probably wasn't like English with French)#Alliance Trade Standard is a prestige language in Ishgard for nobility but proficiency varies. Most Ishgardians prob. don't speak it well.#imo Ishgardian and Duskwight both use different alphabets derived from the Old Elezen ones#w/ BSE either adopting the ATS one or having two scripts (the new ATS and the old Elezen one). Probably dialect-dependent.#Duskwight derived theirs from Golmorran and Ishgard from Old/Liturgical Ishgardian bc that's what the Enchiridion is written in.#the friend I'm building this with posits that BSE uses a lot of obtuse speech (verlan basically) for cultural reasons re: elementals.#Ishgardian forms dialects like crazy bc of the geography but there's a lot more interplay and movement of speech around than#you'd think bc of the movement of soldiers from different High Houses and places around the Holy See constantly#High Houses each have their own specific slang and jargon and you can get surprisingly specific placing where in Coerthas someone is from#and what High House he works for based on his accent and what military slang he uses.#the Coerthas-Shroud pidgin/creole refers to the zone between North Shroud and Coerthas where the two languages intersect for trade reasons#and mix together.#BSE mixes with a LOT (padjali / duskwight / coerthan in the north / thanalan languages in the south /#moon mi'qote languages / hyur in general) depending on region and thus has a *really* broad array of variation.#City Ishgardian as a dialect is facing huge change atm bc of the massive influx of Coerthan refugees.#bc of the Calamity and the Horde a lot of local Coerthan dialects went extinct very quickly.

Random, but. It’s fascinating how “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Good” is so radically different from “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Bad.”
Like, for me the number one Thing that will determine whether I enjoy someone’s take on Valjean and Javert are whether they realize that the police/prison as an institution destroyed both of their lives, and is the villain of both of their stories XD.
But yeah it’s really fascinating! Both in adaptations and in fanfiction, the tone/interpretation with which the plot beats are handled can change so much about the characterization. All the adaptations/fic start off with the same basic plot beats but so much can be changed and colored (for better or worse) by the way the author chooses to interpret them
#i do want to say that I always think more people in the fandom is fun!#and fanfic is supposed to be whatever self indulgent stuff scratches your id and can’t be held to the same standards as published stuff#I will never tell people what to write!#also I’ve got cringe fanfic on ao3 too (let he who is without cringe cast the first stone etc etc)#so I’d be the WORST person to preach about that XD#(the next part in the tags is a joke don’t come at me)#but— as a lighthearted joke— sometimes to me personally the Les mis fandom feels like#imagine if you’re in the fandom for the new she ra show#and the show’s about the Evil Horde and how it destroys the lives of the two main characters in different ways#but then like? half the fandom insisted on referring to it as the Morally Okay Reformable Horde#and then like. all the catra/adora fanfic ended with Catra realizing she needs to be a Nicer horde soldier#and maybe adora rejoins the horde to and they go off to fight for Justice (which is what the horde does)#and then you were like ‘huh that’s a bit odd’#‘I thought the point was that the horde poisoned both of their lives and ripped them away from their friends/family’#‘like I thought the evil horde was evil and stuff’#and people responded to you ‘why do you hate catra and catradora?’#and you were like ‘no I love catra! but I thought the whole point was that yknow. she kinda had to leave the evil horde and all’#‘like her upbringing in the horde had left her with a violent self-destructive authoritarian worldview and all’#‘and her obsession with being a good horde soldier was not indeed a good admirable thing but sorta pathetic and sad’#‘and adora was right to leave and hate the horde for what it did to her’#‘and her flaw was that (like catra) she still internalized a lot of the way it taught her to view herself’#‘and the whole fun of catradora is the idea of the two of them sorta finally figuring out who they are outside of that abusive system’#anyway in this metaphor catra is javert adora is Valjean the horde is the police catradora Is valvert XD#this is a goofy metaphor made after hours of homework and is not to be taken too seriously

(Camp Ichor)
[Jackrow, Luz, Uzi, and Soldier V.S. Mr. V (Jason)]
Objective: Fight off this paranormal slasher and survive long enough for the truck to get here in 5 minutes.
======
Soldier, while flying through the air after rocket jumping: Screaming eagles!! *He'd strike the killer in the head...Only for the brute to not even react to the shovel* Damnit!!
Uzi, as she and everyone else were literally throwing whatever they could at him: Okay...This guy is definitely cheating...We need to get better firepower!!
Jackrow, after getting a notification from the driver: We have to wait five more minutes for the truck to get here!!
Luz: 5 minutes?...Okay, yeah!...I think we can wait for that.

I am physically incapable of not shipping "two guys [gender neutral] who spent significant formative years [childhood to teens] being trapped in the worst, most crushingly inescapable slog of an oppressive and dangerous environment while relying only on each other to not fucking crack under the pressure" like that specific dynamic I am literally unable to not ship with the fiery heat of a thousand suns.

an eclectic group of wardens trying to figure out why they arent being swayed by the calling all the other wardens are getting and figuring out they were all joined either with the substitute archdemon blood from soldiers peak or by this one specific guy who apparently may not even be a warden. and then once anders meets up with them he hears this and gets visibly five times more exhausted and then he opens his mouth to finally start laying out the surana deep lore he has pieced together and well, its good news and bad news.
#also baffling news revelatory news and terrifying news.#tldr up at soldiers peak avernus has what he and surana says is zazikels heart. its in a complicated apparatus that keeps blood pumping#through it. by using draconic blood they can make substitute/postmortem(?) archdemon blood. this would have been fine if zazikel was#inactive the way the rest of the past archdemons are (aside from urthemiel whose soul went into kieran). instead surana is Connected to it#in a way that he has never coherently explained but which he has seemingly-contradictingly claimed is not entirely unlike the situations of#kieran and the magisters sidereal and the sentinels of mythals temple. functionally this amounts to him being the acting#leader of zazikels horde (which they partially comprise) as a semi-separate thing from the general darkspawn horde. fun fact the real#actual canonical term for this is 'omega'. surana has been taking psychic damage from this term since before the veil went up.#none of this is even getting into the really crazy parts yet. anyway yeah bad news we are technically a darkspawn horde good news our boss#isnt interested in obliterating our personhoods beneath his call. but we are still sort of instruments of his will and if any of you here#have not met this guy let me assure you this is going to be a bumpy ride bc on his best days the guy has a death-grip on what few hinges#he can scrape together. but if you want to get paid for all this tell him that and he will definitely try. okay ted talk over'
