#hoping some of these will happen later buuuut it's probably unlikely??

spoiler (probably)
I have SO many questions about the dialogue choices Larian made for the full release. in most cases the writing of some of these changed lines seem like a direct downgrade from what we had in EA. so many instances of previous conversations with companions turned into ambient dialogue. some parts just taken out completely (loyal as a pup and twice as pretty, my beloved </3 astarion's reaction to mayrina's fate, my dearest </3 eyes deep as the Darklake, my precious </3)

“just really random online school headcanons”
includes: h. shinsō, k. bakugō, s. todoroki
fandom/s: 僕のヘロアカデミア // boku no hero academia [bnha]
your name is shortened to y/n, gender neutral!
side note: i have major writers block for everything but online school headcanons. it’s funny because i’ve started summer already
Tumblr media
shinsō hitoshi
Tumblr media
has a matching profile picture with you, and none of that cringey shit 💀
it’ll be much more subtle, like those matching default profile pictures, or even a picture of two cats next to each other
i hope that makes sense
whenever you get called, and your wifi is all messed up, and you’re practically in the waiting room because of how many times your wifi quit on you
hitoshi will save you from the embarassment
and will offer to answer the question for you, as you fix your wifi (but you’ll have to make up for it later)
will text you occasionally during classes, but it’s really just a “do we have to go on kahoot today?” “pay attention <3”
and sometimes a “did i get called for recitations?”
regarding breakout rooms, he’ll seek out for you first, and he’ll refuse to be picked by anyone else, unless if you also seek out for him
but if you aren’t in his breakout room, he’ll be kinda down about it, but he’ll try not to let it bother him.
occasionally tells you to switch off your cam and mic, so you could see the cat video he sent to a separate messenger
sometimes appears in your background, when he has no classes to attend to. it had kaminari go ballistical when he caught that familiar mesh of purple hair sitting in the background.
he likes taking naps after finishing his online classes. but, he loves taking naps when you join him 😼
bakugō katsuki
Tumblr media
profile picture’s always at it’s default. you can never get him to match profile pictures with you
and even if you do (by some miracle) he’ll only keep it for a day or two, before switching back
shamelessly laughs at you when he sees that your wifi is bugging, to the point that it makes your voice, or camera view all glitchy.
but he’ll still take a hit for you, and he’ll later on text you that ‘this will be a one time thing. i will not cover for you if it happens again.’
still covers for you during the next time
you always pay attention, because you can practically feel the lectures coming in when you don’t. so if you know what’s best, you’ll stay focused for him <3
or maybe you’re feeling rebellious, and you doze off. katsuki will bombard your notifications with a series of text messages that go like
“hey.” “hey dumbass.” “pay attention,” “or i’ll cut off our cuddle time.” long story short, it works.
will get all pissy if you don’t show up for zoom meetings. you don’t know it’s because he’s constantly gawking at your camera view (when it’s on)
will glare straight into the camera when he wants you to quickly check your messages. it’s almost like he’s telling you to ‘fuckin’ check your messages already!! >:|”
always manages to snag you into his breakout room first, and when someone tries to do it before him, he’ll probably give them an earful
will occasionally send pictures of you dozing off, or a really unflattering picture, and will send you a “you look good here, dumbass <3”
and they say romance is deceased
todoroki shōto
Tumblr media
profile picture’s always at default too, but unlike bakugō, he’s open for any future changes
to your surprise, he’s the one that proposes the idea of matching profile pictures
he’ll even ask for your opinion first. doesn’t matter if they’re subtle, or ‘right in your face’ matching profile pictures
you both take online classes in the same room. he just thinks it’s convenient that way
it also might be because he likes being near you buuuut it’s nothing extraordinary.
or if he’s not in the same room, shōto will most likely be in the room right next to you.
not only is this set up convenient to him, but it also helps him monitor you, making sure that you’re paying attention
if he sees that you’re not, he’ll probably just shamelessly stare at you, before you get the hint, and pay attention 💀
“pay attention, love. this is important” he’ll mute his mic, just to tell you that.
and, if you don’t understand anything, he’ll immediately be right at your side to explain things to you.
even though he’s most likely right next to you, he’ll have your camera pinned 😳
and when you notice, shōto will just smile ‘innocently’ at you
doesn’t make a big deal out of breakout rooms, but usually likes being in the same one as you.
like.. if someone snags you into their breakout room first, he’ll just go 🧍 ‘oh, that’s okay.’
on the inside though, he’s like ‘what a shame :(‘
can sometimes be seen in your background. (if anyone’s paying close attention to your view)
one time, he looked up and saw that you were half awake, and that you were dozing off
and because he thought ‘it looked nice’ he took a picture of you and kept it in his gallery undetected for WEEKS
when you found out, you were like 😳

If I had a coin for every Middle grade book about queer characters and birds that I absolutely adored I had two coins. Which is actually a lot considering these specific themes! Why do they exist? Why are they good? (Can I please get more?) First Every Bird a Prince, now The Language of Seabirds. ♥ It’s so tender and beautiful and even among the drama, because it’s Middle grade, you can always be sure things will turn out well in the end ... /3
I also tremendously enjoyed Milo and Marcos at the End of the World. The writing, the story, right up my alley. One of the things I liked was how it portrayed religion vs. atheism without making one sound worse than the other. Next was Out of the Blue. I'm not really into picking favourite characters, but I loved Crest so much. I lent the book to my friend to read at the airport while we were on a short trip and she was like "This character is kinda annoying". Obviously, she is wrong, because they are The Best.
Unlike (probably an unpopular opinion) Julian from Cemetery Boys. To my own disappointment I did not like the book as much as I would have wanted. Julian is just too intense for my taste. Also, two days? Two days? Is it even possible to have a burning "I love you forever" kind of romance after just two days? This might just be my aroace insides speaking but I so didn't get it. I mean, he was a ghost, so no real body, no pheromones or whatever, just appearance and questionable personality. I could not imagine. I also don't see why they could not just have been friends. You can risk your life for your friends as well, you know. (The culture, magic and Maritza were pretty good though.) But I guess, it's the same reason why the boys in Right Where I Left You could not just stay friends. Like, I get it, you want to show that it's possible and give hope to kids in minorities or difficult sitiations, buuuut (deep sigh). I just don't like sayings like "see, I told you it had to happen sooner or later" just because a friendship is closer or more physical than what you're used to. It makes it sound like friendship isn't enough. For many people it isn't, yeah, but as a concept itself, it is. There no inherent need to take it further. I feel like I'm starting to sound like Téa/Anzu from Yugi-Oh with her friendship speeches, but I can't help it. D:
(Is it weird to read romance books and then whine because there was romance? Maybe. But it’s not like there’s a Platonic Relationships category in the bookstore ... Also with the right books I like reading about it, even though every so often I find myself being puzzled about the simple question “But how does is work?!” The more intense the characters get about it, usually the less I understand. I don’t think I’ll ever find the answer but maybe I can pick up some pieces of the puzzle.)
The final book this month was The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza. I picked this up because I felt like revelling in my misery for a minute and previous SD Hutchinson end-of-the-world-books provided in that direction. Surprisingly Elena was much tougher than her male counterparts, which is a good thing really, because I loathe reading whiny heroines. It wasn't my favourite of the trio, but I appreciate its existence nonetheless. These books don't have an adventure or a big love story to tell, instead they just have ideas and thoughts all squished into a weird shape. And it's nice.

hey how about hcs for the twins as parents (individually)?
also i’m sorry you’re having a bad day :( i hope you feel better soon!
Holy shit you are one of my favorite blogs I think I can die happy now k bye
By individually, you mean each of them as parents right? That’s what I’m going with and I warn you this is going to be a long one
With this, I’m going off the basis that they didn’t grow up basically one of the riches people in Japan as that generally affects how kids our raised and Money Is Literally Power™ in the business world
If I were to keep them rich, chances are they would be away working more often than not (both twins have stated in canon their parents where rarely home). In most, of no all, shows/anime/cartoons I’ve watched and manga I’ve read regarding high-status wealthy families, the child/children grow up being raised by staff and feel alone or forgotten by their parents. Yes they have money, but money isn’t physical affection humans thrive on.
In my college au idea (that I don’t think I ever posted on here...) I stated the headcanon Hikaru had gotten someone pregnant in college. Ngl, I really think this is something that would happen bc he’s never been one to think before he acts.
As for Kaoru, uhhhh he’s the tougher one to put this together for as I’ve never really thought about it for him. He canonically isn’t straight, so for this headcanon we’ll say he’s bi and had a wife first, then a husband
Hikaru upon finding out:
with his first kid, he was utterly terrified the moment she said the words
He was barely an adult and now he was going to be a father the world was against him
The first person he told was (surprisingly) not Kaoru as they were going through a rough spot and not talking to each other
So Mori was the first person he told. It was on the roof of their dorm building at 3 in the morning 15 minutes after Hikaru texted him saying it was urgent and he needed someone to stop him from doing something utterly stupid bc his head was a rushing mess and he had no idea what to do
When Hikaru finally got his head out of his ass and showed up at Kaoru’s dorm a week later (also at 3am, that’s just when this boy has his breakdowns) he broke down and told Kaoru everything. That they we drunk at a party. It was a one night stand. They honestly never expected to have any ties afterwards. And all that was shoved back in his face
He honestly thought (and he thought long and hard about it) about not being in the kid’s life bc he wasn’t ready to be a father
Kaoru knocked some sense into him, figuratively and literally
“Next time, keep it in your damn pants idiot”
Telling his parents was even harder than telling Kaoru. He just called Hikaru and idiot. His father didn’t talk to him for three days. And his mother was torn between being upset or being excited to be a grandmother
He was terrified
But then he heard the heartbeat for the first time
He will never admit it, but he cried
And the sonogram technician told him the we having a girl
A daughter. He was going to have a daughter
He grew more and more excited and less and less terrified
He could do this
Her water broke 6 weeks early and the doctors tried to stop her labor but she was dilating quickly
No he couldn’t do this. He wasn’t ready
Kaoru actually punched him bc Kaoru tends to knock sense into this idiot more than anyone else
“That woman in there is alone which so many strange people with her and the one person who should be in there with her is out here in the waiting room trying to get his shit together. She’s just as terrified as you are, if not more. So take a moment. Get your shit somewhat together. And get in that delivery room”
The waiting consisted of: His parents, her parents, Kaoru, Tamaki, Haruhi, Kyouya, Honey, Mori, Renge, even Kasanoda was there—everyone was ready to meet Baby Girl Hitachiin
Holding his baby girl for the first time was single handedly the best moment of his life
His second kid was planned, he was married by then
His two kids have different mother’s but Hikaru, first baby mama, and step-mother/second baby mama co-parent like goddamn pros)
Hikaru as a father:
He’s a little immature for the longest time and with his daughter he makes a lot of mistakes
His mother is on speed dial and that woman is a saint when it comes to helping
“She has a rash Mom—no I don’t know what kind of rash! That’s why I calling you—no, I’m not sending pictures this time—because it’s down there Mom—a fucking diaper rash?”
He has very little experience and boy does this guy need lots of help
Parenting books, the internet, his mother—he’s using every goddamn resource he can find
Haruhi actually offered to watch his daughter literally any time he needed a babysitter—which brought on many long discussion between the two of them about kids
At one point, Hikaru made in offhand comment to Tamaki about their (Tamaki and Haruhi) future with kids and Haruhi about died on the spot
His kids are 6 yrs apart
By the time his son was born, Hikaru knew what the hell he was doing and totally had everything figured out
quit laughing Kaoru he’s trying his best
His son was named after Kaoru
The differences between how Hikaru raised his kids really show sometimes
With his daughter, he let her get away with a lot more than he should have growing up, he was very lenient and he didn’t quite understand parents aren’t supposed to be their kids’ best friend so she basically got anything she wanted for a long time and that was a hard habit to break for both Hikaru and his daughter
(and considering she was the first kid and between all the hosts and the first grandchild in the family, she was spoiled a lot)
With his son, as his son grew up in a two-parent home with his older sister being at her mom’s 50% of the time, he tried being more strict—he learn his lesson letting his first kid having whatever she wanted—although it was hard as he and his wife weren’t always on the same page when it came to disciplining their son
Hikaru and his wife discussed having another kid, but 2 ended up being plenty (even if the oldest was back and forth between Hikaru and her mother and only spent half the time and every other holiday/birthday with him)
He really is trying his best tho and all he hopes is that his children grow up knowing that
Kaoru upon finding out:
Unlike Hikaru, Kaoru was married for several years before his first kid
They actually tried for a little over 2 yrs to get pregnant with no luck for the longest time—he was beginning to think something was wrong—until Hikaru told him his wife was pregnant, then Kaoru’s wife found out she was pregnant (they were born 3 weeks apart)
Kaoru was super exited for have his first kid
After all, he had all that practice with his niece and his little sister (who was born as they began college)
In all honested, Kaoru was physically and financially prepared for parenthood (buuuut probably not mentally)
His first kid was a boy born at 2 in the morning after 36 hrs of labor, he was exhausted, his wife was exhausted, everyone was getting cranky and Hikaru’s first baby mama made labor look easy and Kaoru was not expecting it to be so bad—or that his wife had such a strong grip on his poor hand—but hot damn holding his son for the first time made everything worth it
I don’t have anything else to add here my brain hurts
Kaoru as a father:
Respectively, Kaoru had more experience with raising kids than his brother did (and he learned a lot from his brother’s mistakes)
Although with all his previous experiences, nothing prepared Kaoru for actually parenthood—it was nothing like watching his niece and little sister
He worked nights for a while so someone would be home with the baby
He didn’t want his son in any kind of childcare facility—nothing against them he swears, he just doesn’t like the idea of someone else taking care of his kid that he doesn’t know
Kaoru and his wife started having problems when their son was around 1-1&1/2yo, but trying staying together for their son’s sake. They ended up  divorcing when their son was 5 after Kaoru had fallen out of love with her
Co-parenting wasn’t as easy with Kaoru and his ex-wife as Hikaru and his baby mama made it look (damn Hikaru had to be a pro at this point)
He didn’t get to see his son a lot after the divorce as his ex-wife had custody.
This killed Kaoru. All he wanted was to be there for his son. He grew up with his parents working a lot and being away and he swore he would never let his kid grow up without him around. He ended up only getting his son every other holiday/birthday and during breaks from school
Kaoru treasured every minute of it
Kaoru remarried a few years later and his husband treated his son like he was his own kid any time they had his son
They ended up adopting a little girl (about the time his son was 7 or 8) and a little boy a few years later
Kaoru didn’t really have the best relationship with his oldest until he was in his mid-teens
I know I didn’t stay exactly on task here and I kinda went off and stated headcanons based around their lives as parents rather than how they are as parents and I apologized for that. This was very fun to write for and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks for the ask! Sorry it was so long, I’ve been working on this literally since the ask hit my inbox...

Hi. I am little bit confused with how Silver's time traveling works. He goes back to past to fix the issue(every world-ending disaster conveniently starts right in Sonic's time one after another). Then goes to future, everything's great. How does his life changes? How he is... born? And then when everything goes wrong again he just suddenly wakes up to broken world??
Hello! This is a great question, since... there isn’t a definite answer given in canon. Like, at all! And the info we do have is MASSIVELY contradictive. I’ll first lay out everything I know from all the games and then see what sense I can make of it. I won’t go over ‘06 since apparently it isn’t canon... all we know is that Silver is somehow still a part of the future, despite the events of that game getting erased.
In Rivals 1, the future is seemingly unharmed, but Eggman Nega travels back in time with Onyx Island (future Angel Island) and Silver follows him to the past. The four heroes defeat Eggman Nega and I presume that Silver brings Onyx Island back to the future, which should be unharmed still.
In Rivals 2, the unharmed future suddenly becomes harmed when the Ifrit is released in the past by Eggman Nega... I guess there’s a timeline wherein this happens without Silver’s intervention, and then another timeline where he goes to the past and prevents it from happening in the first place? This one is CONFUSING, but more on that later!
In Sonic Colours DS Silver states the world is saved, saying that “the future isn’t all stone and buildings like that” and that “the sky is blue, and everyone’s got a smile”. I personally love this story because it means the world is saved and Silv can be happy, buuuut... it’s probably not canon. :/
Generations’ profile for Silver says that he has “been raised in a world full of ruins”, but despite that, he is an optimist. This would hint to the future always having been ruined for as long as he lived in it.
In Forces, the prequel comic Stress Test features Silver coming back with dire news from the future, as he had travelled back there prior to the events of comic. Here he has found the world ruined through Eggman’s influence during the War To Take Back The Planet, and he undoes this while fighting Infinite in Mystic Jungle and knocking a Phantom Ruby prototype from him. Furthermore, in IDW he finds the world ruined again by the Metal Virus the instant he travels back after the War, though I’m not sure to what extend the comics are canon to the game universe.
In the spin-off games, nothing is said about the state of the future, as far as I know. All his descriptions in e.g. Smash or the Olympic games make sure to mention he comes from a ruined future, though, which would imply that the future is not fixed.
To conclude, there is no definite answer as to whether the future has always been ruined or if it oscillates between “saved” and “destroyed”, and things just change in front of Silver’s eyes as he is present there (I hope that’s not the case, if only for Silver’s sanity: that’s got to SUCK.)
As for the question how Silver is born, there are some theories/headcanons about him having been removed from the timeline altogether and just... existing without having an actual point of origin in the timeline he is currently in, I guess. Either that, or the events that lead up to his birth always happen, no matter how unlikely it is that they play out in exactly the same way for each timeline. Nothing is said about this by official creators or in canon, as far as I know.
My personal headcanon is as follows: Silver has lived his entire life in an Ifrit-destroyed future. Onyx Island was spared the worst damage, probably because the Master Emerald repelled the monster or whatever. Eggman Nega takes Onyx Island to the past and Silver travels after him, and as such learns of the possibility to go back in time and undo disasters before they happen. The events of Rivals 2 play out, except instead of the two timelines-idea I proposed above there’s only one one, wherein Eggman Nega tries to unleash the Ifrit and Silver stops him before this can happen. Every time Silver travels back to the future he finds it destroyed by another disaster, and he goes back to the appropriate points in time in the past to prevent it from happening. Colours DS is not considered canon here, poor Silver!
(Fun fact: I read on Evan Stanley’s Twitter page during a Q&A that the Rivals games are not considered canon... but then how did Silver meet Sonic? They know each other in later games!)
As it stands Silver’s whole story is filled with paradoxes and illogical things, unfortunately. And that doesn’t even touch on how he travels to the past in the first place (apparently with Chaos Control, but this is never shown in-game), the disarray that is Sonic Rivals, and the confusion regarding Eggman Nega as well... I hope this answers your questions, though! If anyone wants to add anything, feel free to do so!

The Legend of Zelda - The Wind Waker! (HD Turbo Championship Edition)
Tumblr media
Hi everybody!
As I plan to revisit many Zelda games I haven't played in years (or at all!) in the upcoming months, I finished what used to be one of the most controversial titles in the series for the second time, and the first in four years! And to my shock considering what I've heard about this adventure over time, I fell in love with it all over again 💗
I'd actually like to start this humble review with this analogy: What surprised me the most while replaying this game, is how its overall structure and world are. I feel like the best way to describe this game is like this: A perfectly balanced mix - as all things should be - between a classic Zelda quest, and the much more revolutionary Breath of the Wild. Now, I gotta say, it may be strange to some people to compare an older title to a newer one to describe it, but I promise it'll at least somewhat make sense at the end of this review... I hope O_O
Tumblr media
But hey, we might as well review the plot early as usual! Well, there honestly isn't a lot to this story as usual for most Zelda games, but it is pretty solid regardless. Basically, as the ambient intro of the game teaches you, the ancient land of Hyrule got flooded by the gods, as Ganondorf tried to conquer the land with no Hero opposing him. And ever since that event, the world has been flooded with the Great Sea, only leaving many small islands and some people behind to rebuild the world. And so, many years after this happened, we find this game’s Link on his 12th birthday, wearing the “Hero of Time’’s clothes for the occasion as a longheld tradition. BUT, as this supposed happy day happens, his sister Aryll gets kidnapped by a giant flying bird to the Forsaken Fortress - as many other young girls. Naturally, Link tries to go save her with the help of Tetra - another young girl that escaped captivity thanks to her crew of pirates. With the help of her companions and their ship, Link sets out for the fortress, but as he is clearly underpowered, he gets demolished there by none other than Ganondorf, and washes up ashore, unconscious on Windfall Island, greeted by... a talking red boat! And this same boat tells him he must collect the Three Pearls of the Gods in order to gain access to the Master Sword, to finally save the kidnapped girls! This is not the whole plot of course, as I’m hiding some actual plot twists from you, the reader, buuuut I will say that while it’s not the most developed tale out there, it’s well done! But I feel like what drives this the most is certainly the art style and the characters themselves. See, I firmly believe this game has the best Link in the ENTIRE SERIES, no questions asked! He’s expressive, funny, endearing and he just looks so dang adorable! Part of his charm is definitively thanks to the situations he’s put in, but I think it’s mostly because of the game’s artstyle. IT’S BEAUTIFUL
Tumblr media
Yes, granted, it’s not nearly as detailed as many games you’ve probably played, but the cartoony style they chose for Wind Waker really makes the locales pop out, and made the slapstick in the game that much more endearing! Plus, some of those shots just look, well, breathtaking really.
Speaking of character expressions and slapstick, I also believe Wind Waker possesses a very memorable set of NPCs as well! Be it the employee in the battleship game with his twofaced personality, or anyone involved in the many sidequests all over the islands, I’ve built lots of memories just traveling all around the sea, reading and delivering letters, just to get to know those people more! And it turned out that a good chunk of them gave me a good time!
Tumblr media
Well, let’s talk about those travels, shall we? Wind Waker got (in?)famous over the years for having sailing. Lots of it. And especially in the original Gamecube version, it made travelling slow and boring to some as a result. Basically, you needed to constantly change the direction of the wind in order to travel as quickly as you could. Suffice to say, switching the wind’s directions this often got irksome pretty quickly : P Thankfully, the HD port on the Wii U does give you an optional Fast Sail in a side quest! As early as the second island in the game! Which means that those who found the sailing unbearable in the original will have a better experience ^^ But regardless, there’s a lot of sailing in this game, which is what replaces running/rolling around on the overworld. And instead of having different regions, they’re all replaced by 49 islands of different sizes and importance! And this is where my BOTW comparison will shine~ I think this game is pretty close in spirit to Breath of the Wild in some ways. Sure, unlike in that game, you’re locked to a certain sequence of items/dungeon/progression, just like a classic Zelda experience! BUT!  Wind Waker also allows you to explore 40+ non-important islands, and sailing between them in anticipation of what you might find there is suuuuch a good feeling! Plus, there’s many treasure chests to loot (both major and minor) while you’re travelling on the big blue. Due to how much you can find in your way off the main quest - while being far away from the suggested path the game wants you to do at the moment - gives this game a very open feeling despite still having a linear quest to it! And I think this element of discovery and exploration in a linear format - coupled with the great visuals and ambience the sailing offered - made this game so, so, so much fun to play <3
Tumblr media
But what about the gameplay and dungeons themselves? Well thankfully, they’re both quite good as well! What I like most is how much of an improvement swordplay got compared to Ocarina of Time. Not only are the enemies generally more diversified in strategies and design, Link also received many new moves to his arsenal, and those made combat so much more intense and exciting! Though it did make the game very easy overall thanks to having so many options... alongside you not taking very much damage for most of the game :P Still, the dungeons made up for this! They’re quite fun and pretty well paced, and each offer some quite nice ambience as well!  Although I will say that the late part of the game has two dungeons with pretty similar concept, which while fun in their own right, did feel a little uninspired despite them having clever puzzles :/ On a semi unrelated note, the intro sequence at the Forsaken Fortress has you playing a stealth sequence, and you coming back to it later while able to defend yourself was a high point for me!
Tumblr media
I do want to leave a quick note about the music, and honestly? It’s pretty great as well! Like I pointed out earlier, the dungeons create some very fitting atmosphere, but as soon as you’re outside them, many of the main islands have some very pretty, energetic music that is PERFECT for a Zelda game (especially Dragon Roost Island), and the Great Sea theme is very adventurous and grandiose, which motivates you even more to set out and explore! Though it’s somewhat strange that many smaller locations have no music at all, which makes sense to be fair, since those islands are usually pretty small from the outside ^^
Overall? I expected to only like this game, but I ended up adoring it! The Wind Waker is a marvelous journey that leaves a lot open to the player about how they approach the game, while still giving you enough of a compass to never be lost! And a competent story with charming characters and great music certainly help to make that adventure all the more memorable! Though I suggest you all should play the HD version if you can, since it has the fast sail and better looks. BUT, it also heavily tones down the infamous lategame Triforce fetch quest. (While it did not make much sense story-wise since you could just do spoiler without it before, I didn’t find it all that bad in the HD version since you can do some of it before having completed all other dungeons in the game ^^ But yes, HD or not, this is a grand adventure! Play it! 9/10

So, The Lion King has been in my mind a lot recently (can't imagine why...) and I remembered something you said about Oscar being the Simba to Ruby's Nala. That's a pretty apt comparison right there, and it also got me wondering who would you see as the Timon and Pumbaa to Oscar's Simba?
Ironically I can’t seem to recall when I made that comparision XD Nonetheless it’s one that works because Simba and Nala were best friends who ultimately fell in love and became each other’s mates by the end of the Lion King. That’s pretty much the route I’m hoping the Rosegardening Rosebuds take if romance is in the cards for them. I want to see their friendship developed first, showing them growing closer as friends; perhaps even becoming best friends in the process. You know I’m definitely down for Oscar being crowned another BFF to Ruby---her right hand man and the male equivalent to Weiss (who actually likes it when Ruby calls him her best friend, unlike Weiss). Weiss and Oscar as Ruby’s established best friends and partners, both on and off the battlefield = A OK in my books.
Tumblr media
However as soon as this close bond between the Rosebuds has blossomed, a possible tragedy occurs in which one loses the other and/or presumes them to be dead. Y’know like a potential Dark Domain Arc involving Oscar being kidnapped during the Battle of Atlas and made a prisoner of Salem with many believing the young boy to be dead after he willingly surrendered himself to protect his friends and the people of Atlas from destruction by Salem’s Winged Beringel Army. The only person who still clung to the hope that Oscar was alive was Ruby Rose and because of this, she boldly never stopped looking for him until ultimately leading a search party across the Dark Domain to save Oscar from his imprisonment within the lonely tower Salem trapped him in. Salem imprisoning an incarnate of Ozma in the very tower that the original Ozma once saved her from centuries ago is definitely a parallel I’d like to see.
During the seperation, the two former friends realize their love for one another so that by the time they reunite, they already know what they mean to each  other and from there, romance blossoms. So yeah, I can totally see this happening for the Rosebuds. Not sure if that’s what the CRWBY Writers plan on doing with them but we’ll see moving forward into the Atlas Arc.
So to answer your question on who I see as the Timon and Pumbaa to Oscar’s Simba---well let’s look at what these two were to Simba. Timon and Pumbaa were Simba’s other two closest friends as well as his surrogate parents/ guardians. After Simba was banished from Pride Lands by Scar and forced to run away after he sent the hyenas to kill him, a cub Simba was later discovered in the desserts fars from the Pride Lands by Timon and Pumbaa. These two took Simba under their wing and pretty much raised him for the rest of his lion years into adulthood.
So taking that into consideration here,I have to pick characters who not only embody that carefree comedic energy that Timon and Pumbaa often brought to the table but also the nuturing nature that parental void for the young impressionable Simba.. Because of that, I can’t just pick two people for Oscar because in actuality there are three people who I see fulfilling this role in my boy’s development. I think you can probably guess who I’m gonna call and it’s not the Ghostbusters.
Oscar’s Timon and Pumbaa are the JNR trio; hands down.
Tumblr media
Words cannot describe how much I really want Jaune, Nora and Ren to come like a surrogate family to Oscar. It’s why I’m such an advocate for him to join up with JNR to revive Team JNPR.
Outside of his bond with Ruby, Oscar is alone, basically. He’s far from home. Ozpin is present but mostly as a guiding voice. He has no team. No family or true friends for the most part on the team (apart from Ruby)..Meanwhile, JNR are an incomplete team in need of a fourth member. Oscar can be the missing member who can make JNR whole again and in return, they can be the team and family he needs right now.
The reason Team JNPR was always my favourite team was because their rapport felt more like a family to me than any other huntsmen team. Even more so than RWBY. They are also the only huntsmen team to suffer through grief of losing on of their own. JNPR---well JNR were always a family and I’m hoping that as bonds grow, they eventually extend an invitation for Oscar to join, not just their team but their family.
I’m actually hoping the idea to let Oscar join JNR is prompted by Ren with the final decision being left in Jaune’s hands as leader of the team, of course. Ren is the only member of JNR who hasn’t had a ‘moment’ with Oscar yet and I’d like to see these two surprisingly bond for V7.
Somehow I can picture Nora and Ren acting like doting parents with Oscar as the team couple. As for Jaune, I can definitely picture Jaune playing big brother to Oscar. As a guy who grew up with seven sisters, I’m sure at some point Jaune must’ve wanted a little brother to look up to him. You can’t tell me otherwise. While all of them can definitely be Oscar’s proxy siblings, it’s with Jaune I can see this being a running thing between him and Oscar.
Like for real, I’m picturing moments where Oscar and Jaune are tag-teaming on the battlefield and Jaune looks out for Oscar with a quick ‘Got ya back lil bro’ while Oscar in turn replies, ‘Thanks big bro!’ or ‘Thanks brother!’
You cannot tell me that Jaune can’t be the Edward Elric to Oscar’s Alphonse. He even has the blonde hair, dagnabbit! Anyways, I’m just saying that JNR will be  Oscar’s surrogate family and part of his inner circle of most trusted friends. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, the RNJR squad will be Oscar’s version of Ozpin’s Circle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ozpin had 4 lieutenants he could trust especially in moments of reincarnation and for Oscar, Ruby, Nora, Jaune and Ren will be his most trusted 4. Buuuut...that’s my opinion and my expectations. Only time will tell with what the real showrunners bring.
Hope this answers your question, Al.

BEHOLD the rest of the commentaries. They’re pretty short in comparison to the others, and I wrote them pretty stream of consciousness, so I can’t guarantee how much sense they make, but it’s done, dammit.
BTW, my overall favorite characters (in no particular order): Arthur, Charlie, Meredith, Alaster, Iggy, Bael, Mara, Junior, Solstice
My thoughts on 33 different characters below the cut:
The New Friends:
Kirk: Like Nick, probably could have been written out and not much would be changed. However, he gets a pass because he was never really meant to be in the main storyline to start with, being born of a short lived prompt based adventure on the MSPA forums, who got phased into the main storyline. However, unlike Nick he has a genuinely interesting motivation (evil goon gone good, determined to avenge his mistreated coworkers). I also love his overall cheery and easygoing personality, he seems like a very nice guy. Interesting backstory- he was apparently in the army reserves, but got hired by a private company, if I’m remembering correctly? That means that he might not have had any family in Ebon Creek- which means there may well be people still out there looking for him and worried about him, orrr they’ve just been told he’s dead, which is a sad thought. Also has an adorable dynamic with Morty- I could easily imagine him with that one gif along the lines of “I’ve only known Morty for 15 minutes, but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in the room and then myself.” I also liked how he’s the only human member of the “good guys” to have any actual combat training- in an AU where nobody has demon powers or magic, he could probably wipe the floor with everyone else. Overall, very nice dude, love his abilities (cool weapons and shouting out power names is really fun), REALLY liked his aegis design, love his dynamic with Morty, grade A character.
Arrie- Another really cool lady! I really liked how she slowly went from confused but not incompetent, to really taking responsibility for the situation in Ebon Creek later in the storyline. It’s awesome to hear she’s going to get a more prominent role in the reboot, I ADORE her new design, and I’m quietly guessing her treasure chest motif pockets have bag of holding style portals in them. Would have loved to have seen her reunion with Azgrut, but ehn, we can’t have everything. Also love her clever use of portals- I think it works really well with her intelligent personality. I also really enjoyed her dynamic with Sally while they were teemed up- rough and tumble lady with a prim, proper and intelligent young woman, both happily beating up their opponents. Wonderful.
Victus- I’ve always had a soft spot for dry, logical characters, and Victus is no exception. I think as a fellow military dude, him and Kirk would have gotten along quite well if they had had more time to talk to each other. However, above all else I love his relationship with Bael- from how he initially turned Bael’s parasitism around on him, to how he, (in my opinion at least) ended up in a near-father figure position. It doesn’t matter how edgy Bael acts, Victus is there to pat him on the head in a patronizing fashion. Sure kid. You’re real cool. (While also taking into account his mental state and showing sympathy.) And frankly, if anyone needs that kind of support, it’s Bael.
Trevor- Always liked this guy! A very useful font of exposition, and a genuinely nice guy. I also really appreciate the fact that he’s not used to the chaos of Ebon Creek, and of horrible situations in general. His moments of vulnerability/near breakdowns (and Eric’s for that matter) remind the audience that everything that’s happening… isn’t normal. He’s the closest thing we have to an ‘audience insert’ in the Asylum arc. Loved his gadgetry based fighting style, would have been interesting to see what sort of demon powers he would have developed, but overall not too bummed about it. Really REALLY happy he got to rebuild his friendship with Azgrut, that was one of the things I was most pleased about with the ending.
Eric- Very similar to Trevor in terms of ‘audience insert’ and ‘nice guy’ and ‘hadn’t been completely traumatized by the start of the comic leading to mental breakdowns’, but rode along with the villains instead of the heroes. Poor thing ultimately ends up suffering more than Trevor though, for obvious reasons. It would have been cool to see someone actually learn how to be a zombie though; Sam and Jericho have been like that for years, and we missed Alaster’s adjustment period, but it would have been amusing to watch Eric slowly get used to it.
Also, he committed the biggest instance of ‘Nice job breaking it, hero’ in the whole comic. Way to revive King Law, Eric. Real smooth. Also very, very interesting in that he was one of the few that SIGVALDI found interesting. Eric’s likely up there on the list of cleverest characters, and I hope he’s doing ok after the end of Suppression.
Assorted Goons:
Grenner- I love this man. I draw him looking perpetually exhausted for a reason. He’s a very good man who blames himself for some very bad things, and while he outwardly holds himself together, is grasping at straws to figure out how to make things better. Is a man that’s plagued with guilt and also the actual plague, but has an INCREDIBLE mental fortitude- it’s been explained that perceiving one’s demonic infection as a separate entity is what kills you, but Dr.Grenner did that… and won. I also love his relationship with Iggy- once pretty good, now strained with Grenner trying very hard to put it back together. I’d really like to see them make up someday. (Iggy takes after his dad a lot tbh, loathe as he is to admit it.) ...Id also like to see Grenner show everyone Iggy’s baby pics. You know he’s got em somewhere.
Kolt- Noooooooo. Probably...my least favorite of the villains. Certainly the one I find the creepiest, for reasons I went over in my commentary with Sally, but also the one I found the least interesting in terms of characterization and backstory. Was really pleased to see his “death” and how he got repurposed into a different character, buuuut it’s less encouraging knowing he was going to come back. Please, you creepy bastard….just stay dead…..
Santris- Changing directions, one of my favorite villains. Unlike Nick, his small number of appearances works in his favor, considering he usually shows up during plot important moments, prodding things in one direction or another. This is a man who KNOWS things, and I love it. What is he up to? What’s his motivation? That’s all part of the intrigue. His power set links into this perfectly, which is to say he doesn’t really have one- he’s the only character that fights without magic or plague powers, leaving his real powers- if he has any- a mystery. There’s only one thing I feel fit to speculate on with this guy, and that’s the fact that he’s PROBABLY an elf, going by his eyes. Even that can’t be confirmed though, and makes things even more strange due to the fact that he seems to mostly work with humans, with little to no contact with Thal’nasia.
Azgrut- Another ‘not technically evil, just a victim of tragic circumstances’ character. Being murdered as a child, brought back as a zombie, and forced to build weapons or else be killed again doesn’t leave a guy with a lot of options. However, the weapons he’s building are his life’s work, and probably the only thing that brings him any real happiness or, failing that, satisfaction. It’s probably why he’s so protective of his work, and why he’s so pissy when anyone comes and bothers him. His magitech based fighting style is cool as heck to look at (And to compare/contrast with Trevor’s), and he has an EXCELLENT general aesthetic to him. Tron line zombie, hell yeah. Overall, his situation was even more miserable and ultimately hopeless than Sam’s, and I’m REALLY glad he got a happy ending. Though it’s a shame that because Arthur raised him, that means he’s still ultimately under control of the Wights, which was his whole goal with the phylactery thing. Wait. Azgrut’s still alive at the end. Which m…..FUCK. ARTHUR’S NOT DEAD, THE CAVE IN DIDN’T KILL HIM. I JUST FIGURED THAT OUT. FUCK
Maggie- Okokokok I’m cool, it’s cool. It’s cool. Arthur’s not dead, fine. I’ll just pretend he’s stuck under a rock somewhere, it’s fine. Ok, Maggie. She’s so. Fucking cool. So goddamn cool, I love her so much. I love her ease and sense of confidence, and the implication that she’s the one wearing the pants in her business relationship with Bartleby, even if the people they work with get the initial impression otherwise. She also probably wears the pants in their romantic relationship too. Which like, might not be a thing, not confirmed for canon, but it’s fun to think about. Also has a bitchin outfit, and the coolest ‘element’ out of everyone in the comic, I think. Gravity powers? There is so much room for shenanigans and cool fight scenes out of that. I’m really looking forward to seeing her in the new comic- judging from the number of stripes on her shoulder, she seems to be the boss in the reboot as well. Keep on rockin, girl.
Bartleby- Look. In almost every piece of media with a lot of villains, there’s always one brightly colored, egotistical and flamboyant one. I think for Suppression, Bartleby is that dude. I’m not even kidding- if you look at the big reference sheet of Suppression characters on Degulus’s Deviantart, there’s only 3 patches of bright color and those are Overload Charlie, Azgrut, and Bartleby. However, unlike other villains of that type, where their biggest flaw is their sense of pride, Bartleby’s motive is that Thal’nasia isn’t proud ENOUGH. He believes that elves are genuinely better than humans, but aren’t acting like it, and that needs to be fixed immediately, by way of violent take over of the government. That is a DELIGHTFUL motivation to have. I’m aware that a lot of Suppression’s villains match up with the seven deadly sins (though it’s not too strictly enforced), and envy is a hard one to pull off. However, Bartleby does it and does it well! (Side note: love this dude’s outfit, and double love the fact that he’s the only character who’s teeth you see on a regular basis… where those teeth aren’t sharp. That’s wonderfully unnerving. A+. )
Tyburn- This dude’s more of an honorable mention because he never actually shows up. You only hear about him in passing, so there’s not a LOT for me to say. It’s some hilarious irony that Azgrut doesn’t know what happened after he died (and neither does Iggy for that matter) so he just lists the completely wrong generals and Iggy just essentially nods and goes “Sounds legit.”. I feel like there’s a lot of mysteries around Tyburn though… like I said, we never see him, so who WAS this guy? Why did he defect? (Is he secretly still alive…?) However, the Blood Red Rebellion seems like it was pretty much a feature exclusive to the original comic, so we’re not likely to get anymore info. I’m fine with that tbh- not everything has to be explained to death. Sometimes a dude is just a dude.
Lexi- First of all. Love this girl’s aesthetic. The cropped haircut? The >:3c face? The goggles? The outfit? Yes, yes, and yes. She’s also the only character in the comic that has a very… ‘big sister’ sort of feel to her. Really she’s just an overworked babysitter who got handed a kid that she is in no way equipped to handle, but she’s doing her best to not mess him up too bad regardless. I get the feeling that she’s a dumb kid who was asked “Hey you wanna do some Villainy (™) “ and she was totally down for it before realizing much too late that. Villainy is not as fun as you’d think and ESPECIALLY not when you’re the replaceable mook.
Junior- Hhhh I love this boy. Look, I love art and drawing. I also love robots n stuff in media. I also have Aspergers, and so I have a tendencies towards anxiety, seeming ‘odd’ to other people, being baffled in situations that others would find normal, and obsessing over certain topics. As a result, those who have seen Junior can see why I love this child so so much. It can be kind of embarrassing to admit it, but I see a lot of myself in this character. I’m glad that he has someone that “gets” him and is looking out for his best interests (you rock, Alaster). We don’t really find out what happened to him, Lexi, Alaster and Maggie after the comic, but I like to think that they all got out ok and are just chilling out there somewhere.
Wight Family
Maxwell- Stern, serious, imposing heads of families are relatively common villains, and it’s pretty easy for it to become a boring, flat stereotype; for a character to become nothing more than, essentially, a villainous rock. Max is not this. Max is trying very hard to be this, but doesn’t always measure up, and that is infinitely more interesting than the evil boulder archetype. His character profile straight up says that he’s only trying to be cool and collected. In reality, he’s surrounded by (what he considers) idiots and is trying very hard to keep this show on the road, and his facade of dignity isn’t nearly as impregnable as he thinks. I love the idea of a cold, collected villain going from complex swordplay to an undignified bar brawl the moment he thinks no one’s looking. Just “Fuck it, fine, I’ll do this the easy way. This idiot doesn’t deserve me at my best anyway.” Unfortunately, while his character is very fun to read, the downfall of having a character that doesn’t go into villainous monologues...means that he never explains his evil plans. Which means I’m STILL not really sure… what it was he was trying to DO. Most of my ideas come from Degulus’s explanations in the comments, which is uhhh probably not the best way to communicate that to one’s audience. I’m pretty sure he was planning on altering the course of the leyline to change the laws of nature, and then controlling the world as an immortal zombie but… trusting Arthur to manage that? Yikes. Maybe not the best plan buddy, but you tried your best.
Arthur- Ohhh this bastard. Who is apparently still alive/undead. This bastard… is actually one of my most favorite characters. Like, irrevocably top 5 (I could never pick a #1, but he’s up there). He is an absolutely terrible person. Lazy and cowardly, but in a way that is loathable and malicious instead of sympathetic. Doesn’t seem to think highly of himself, but...doesn’t seem to have a high opinion of anyone else either. Killed his own kids. Killed his brother (s...sort of. It wasn’t very clear.). And today I figured out he didn’t even get comeuppance for it. (Unless, of course, he’s just trapped under a rock in a caved in cave for all eternity with his phylactery sitting on a desk somewhere. That’s kind of hilarious.) However… despite all that, he is an incredibly fun character to hate. His dialogue and reactions were always funny to read, and there’s something about his desire to just lie down and do nothing that appeals to everyone, I think. In a way, he’s similar to an audience insert or ‘straight man’- the one that says “You realize this plan is stupid and never going to work, right.” and is promptly ignored. In summary, terrible person, HORRENDOUS father, but a GREAT character.
William- Ok technically not a person, but will still be giving commentary. A golem made of souls is an amazingly clever concept, though probably my most favorite part of William is getting to describe him as a “sack of angry ghosts” to my friends. It’s interesting how William appears to be at least partially sentient though- either that collection of souls does have some hivemind sort of consciousness, or that’s some faaaancy spell coding on Sigvaldi’s part. However, due to the fact that he’s a juggernaut superweapon of necromancy, he’s less a character and more a...almost environmental hazard that the characters have to work around. A unique and interesting superweapon that was a blast to read about how they worked around him, but… doesn’t leave me a lot to talk about in terms of character commentary.
Jericho- Ah, the poor narratively-proclaimed D-list villain. Nobody really likes him. Got waylaid by the events of the story, and as a result never did anything of much significance, but it was lampshaded and he later got a huge upgrade. I feel like that matches his personality quite well though. He takes after his dad a lot more than he’d like to admit; he has pride in being undead, and as a member of the Wight family, expects everyone to cower before him… and it’s really funny to watch how frustrated he gets when people don’t immediately do that. I think the combo with Kolt was a good idea; it gave him a much needed power boost and source of intrigue, being a possessed zombie. I was also really interested in seeing where his relationship with Iggy and Azgrut was gonna go! On an unrelated note though...I found out the other day that he’s only 2 years older than Samantha. However, Samantha’s backstory showed that she died as a little girl, and I thought it was implied by the “go get your brother” comment that Jericho died shortly after… but that would make Jericho have the body of a young teen/preteen at most. Sooo I guess that either wasn’t the day Jericho died and Arthur wanted him for something else, or acid zombies can age. Hmmm.
(PS. If Alastair calls Samantha Sam and Meredith Merry, does that mean he calls Jericho Jerry? Because if so, that’s hilarious.)
Samantha- The undying voice of nihilism, in a travel sized package. Sam didn’t get a huge role or a ton of appearances, but she’s one of the few who got what I considered a complete character arc. She had a problem, finally admitted that problem, got assistance with the problem and got her comeuppance. Her story was sad, but god if that didn’t make it all the more satisfying watching Arthur get thrown around like a toy by King Law. You could almost hear the squeaky toy sounds.
Alaster- I have a lot of respect for this guy. In the beginning of the story, he comes off as one of those mysterious, unhinged villains that gives a dramatic speech and then vanishes. However, the course of the story revealed layers of personality and backstory that made me genuinely feel for this guy. He’s proud to be a Wight, but somewhat paradoxically hates his family- this later turns out to be because his dad and uncle are terrible people, even to their own children, and he’s trying to actually create something resembling a “family” instead of...well, a soul-drowning pit of misery. He’s trying to make the Wight family a better place for the members of his generation. He’s trying to be a good brother, a good role model, and is friendly to Sam even though she doesn’t seem to want his kindness. He doesn’t mind though, he gets it. It’s so nice to see the younger members of “villain” half of the cast have someone in their corner willing to throw down for them no matter what. Alaster is an A+ older brother, A+ babysitter, and honestly probably would have made a good dad if he ever got the chance. Well, except for the ‘teaching kids how to murder’ part. But that’s just a traditional part of Wight education, I can give that the slip.
Meredith- My first thought upon seeing Meredith was “Oh my god she’s adorable.” Since then, my opinion has not changed in the slightest. She’s like Sabrina the Teenage Witch but evil. She wants to make a team of US presidents with chainsaw arms. I want to SEE her make a team of US presidents with chainsaw arms. Honestly, she’s a breath of fresh air in the Wight team. She’s good at her job, but young and enthusiastic. After so many dreary, depressed, gothass villains, it’s nice to see one that’s a straight up ray of bubbly sunshine who also wants to rip out your soul and use you as her cute lil familiar. I bet she can ride that scythe like a broomstick. She’s got the wind powers, it could work. The sad part is though is that...while the old Wights might have survived the cave in, and Arthur definitely survived, Meredith was the only one in the room who wasn’t undead or a lich which means she’s probably. Permadead by the end of the comi- AW FUCK THAT MEANS ALASTER’S DEAD TOO. AUUUGH. Oh fffuck I hope Alaster managed to get Junior back home before he just. Dropped dead next to him.
King Law- Unlike Max, this guy is a lot closer to the “villainous rock” stereotype; he even has an elemental affinity to Earth! While I find him a little more boring than Max though, I’m still drawn to him by his bitchin character design, and intriguing sense of ethics; he honestly has some good points on the nature of goodness and the fact that having a sense of right and wrong is worthless if “right” isn’t being defended. He seems to be the concept of “lawful evil” taken to a reasonable endpoint, whereas Sigvaldi would be the “chaotic” end of the scale.
Nora- Ohhh yes that’s the ticket. This is exactly what I wanted. It’s implied that...terrible things happened to the Wight kids’ mothers. (Ok they’re not really kids but you get what I mean.) However, that leaves a very obvious dearth of Wight ladies, leaving me with a hankering for more. Nora hits that spot so well. She’s elegant, refined, but also has a giant, badass fuckin’ sword (ok well she is the sword but still), and will happily kick the crap out of everyone that messes with her family, despite the drama. Is there a ton of depth and backstory? Nah, she was there for like...10 pages and died (thanks, Charlie), but her very existence is a much needed breath of fresh air. Also I need to draw her in a bunch of fancy outfits starting, like. Now.
Sigvaldi- So, I got one of my friends to read the reboot with me entirely on the off chance that Sigvaldi shows up in it based on the few snippets of the old comic that I showed him, so that certainly speaks wonders for Sigvaldi’s character. Granted, it’s mostly because he’s a lich and this friend loves those, but my point stands. Sigvaldi is great. I love characters with a unique worldview and sense of morality, and Sigvaldi is no exception. He is well aware that he creates monsters and commits sins against the laws of nature, and accepts this...what he truly loathes is those who do monstrous things and try to make it look like justice. Now THATS interesting. I also just generally enjoy his omniscient observer role in the story, popping up to give warnings and make predictions. I should also talk about the end of Suppression, while I’m talking about him, specifically those mysterious voices who’s ranks he joined at the end of the story… I’m not sure who they are, but I sure as hell cant wait to find out! I have a few guesses, but 0 evidence, so I’m gonna hold those cards close to my chest for now.
Other Characters
These guys diiiidn’t get a lot of screentime and also I’m feeling really crappy and sick right now so I might not have a lot to say, sorry.
Figaro- An elf with a BEARD. So good. I like how self aware he is about the nature of his job, and how light hearted he stays about it all. Sometimes, your coworkers are incredibly powerful mages that can control the very forces of nature themselves. And sometimes they’re idiots. And sometimes they’re both at the same time and you just kinda gotta roll with it.
Coin- Had pretty much just one conversation so I don’t have a lot to say about this guy. I like his near-naive dedication to heroics and justice though. That can be interesting in done right, especially if it’s from a character who isn’t actually naive and is instead willing to fight for that ideal. I actually find his family more interesting- he has a last name that’s been mentioned a couple times in different contexts. His family certainly gets around, huh?
Mara- Probably my favorite of the elves. I can understand both sides of peoples opinions of her. On one hand, she’s absolutely a child soldier. There’s definite negative effects to this that she straight up doesn’t have the experience or maturity to understand completely, and even though this frustrates her, the people claiming it are absolutely right. However, I can also understand her desire to be taken seriously as a person, the difficulty in repairing the good name of the Red part of the army, and the massive pressure on her as the last remaining heiress of the Kuin family. She’s got a lot of weight on her, and while I want to see her do well… I also wish she had the opportunity to. Well, be a dumb teenager. Very interesting character, but also very specific to the pre-reboot continuity, so I’m not sure what’s going to happen to her now.
Phylo- This is also a reaaaally good one. I love how much care was taken to write his disabilities- he’s competent and well respected, but his missing arm and blindness are taken into account and addressed reasonably. I especially loved how he has to take his arm off during the winter because of the chill that creeps up it- that shows a lot of thought put in, that not a lot of other comics would. A+ writing on that front. Normally I don’t think I’d like his grumpy, but still managing to brag sort of personality, but in this case I think it works because the other characters mentioned that he was the grumpy one; his behavior isn’t treated by the narrative as being a good thing.
Kevin- Admittedly not a huge fan of this guy. I mean he’s ok, I liked the kamen rider leystone power suit, that’s cool. And granted, we might not have gotten the best introduction to him, considering he was exhausted and it was the middle of the night when we met him. But overall, he seemed to me to be a guy where people kept saying that “he was a nice guy, really” despite being whiny and aggressive the whole time. He kept acting really distrustful, but none of his protestations really affected the plot, so I just spent most of the time waiting to move on from this guy. I get the feeling I also would like him more if I watched any episodes of Kamen Rider, as there’s supposed to be a lot of similarities buuuut I haven’t, so. Still, he’s supposed to be getting a lot of focus in the reboot, so hopefully he’ll be able to stand up on his own virtues.
Roni- Noooot a lot to say about this one. I’m interested in seeing what animal-based life magic looks like in practice though. Plant life magic is easy enough, it’s just plants, but is animal husbandry magic like...being able to control/talk to animals? Or is it kind of horrifying fleshcrafting. I also didn’t think she and Cerene were that similar, but I’m still looking forward to the sister relationship they’ll have! (I’ve also always wondered if that promised hang session with her and Cerene was going to lead up to a meeting and confrontation with Lexi… that would have been interesting.)
Torblad and Esra- Wasn’t a huge fan of these two either. I’m not sure if Torblad was just pretending to have gone crazy, or if he was supposed to actually have some sort of illness from his time travel shenanigans, but overall it just felt weird to me. The tone of his ‘prophecies’ was so different from the rest of the comic that I thought he was a one off joke character or a cameo of some other thing (like how Kirk was a character who was originally from a MSPA fanventure, I thought Torblad was a character from the original RP a lot of the elf characters came from that was going to be a tip of the hat one-off, tonally inconsistent cameo and then we’d more on.). Imagine my surprise when he ended up being responsible for the end of the comic! With Cerene’s help, of course. Overall, he just seems...out of place to me. With the rest of the cast being written well enough in terms of physical disabilities, the effects of trauma, and mental illness, Torblad’s sort of… lolrandom sort of craziness feels cut from a different cloth. I don’t even really have anything to say about Esra- she seems to be there pretty much entirely to interpret for Torblad, soooo I got nothing. Sorry, Esra.
Solstice- Aw yeah, there’s the good stuff. Take this with a grain of salt though; I’m not entirely sure if I’m interpreting her backstory correctly, as we only got bits and pieces of it. She was an excellent introduction to how much things were going to change for our “heroes” when they walked into Thal’nasia- instead of snarky comments and scuffles, they got someone that was spooked, shy, and wondering why the hell they were there in the middle of the night. She’s a bit awkward, but seems friendly and genuine; a much needed change of pace and a breath of fresh air. However, the story is quick to give her more depth than that. She used to be a lot sadder, a lot angrier, a lot more aggressive, and it’s taken time and effort to recover from that. She has a useful, unique worldview due to her golden aura color, but is estranged from society due to her differences and her odd personality as a result. And yet… she’s still become a kind person, with a helpful personality, and I have a lot of respect for that. It’s one thing to become a snarling badass in the face of adversity. That’s cool, and I like that too. Hell yeah, punch those who hurt you. But something we don’t get to see a lot is people recovering, getting better, realizing that while that aggression helped them at the time, it can become self destructive. It’s really nice to see a character that shows that stronger isn’t the be all, end all solution to one’s problems. (Though she could probably still kick your ass if she wanted to. Just sayin.)

Shadow Bladers
Tumblr media
[Continued from {here}]
I WANTED TO SEE THEM ALL UNMASKED....................BeyBurst I will never forgive you if you never give me this, they're too good to just forget about, dammit
...God, I wonder if they're all even still alive?? The ones that got dropped in the Failure Holes were literally just. Never seen again. Well, I mean, we saw their masks crumpled up and strewn all over the ground outside later BUT THAT'S NOT EXACTLY A GOOD SIGN, NOW IS IT
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
Also, at least most of the shadows do TRY to mimic some aspect of their opponent's personality, not just their beyblades and fighting styles, but they're usually bad at it lmao. A for effort, boys. Also their stupid black catsuits are High Fashion and I approve.
Yellow Eye
Well, this is...unfortunately, the one we've seen the most of, out of the shadows. He's actually got a name, unlike all the others: "Richard Yellow", supposedly. Very convenient last name there, but I'm gonna call him Dick.
He, uh. Gives me MAJOR skeevy pervert vibes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...???
That aside though, his sheer fucking terror post-Pit, when Boss actually {SPOILER ALERT} DID come back and kick his ass [YEEEEEAAAAAHHH] and he looked up at Ashram like "Oh...oh no. I am very, very royally fucked" was good for really hammering in the fact that Bad Shit happens to Snake Pit people who lose. Though, I think we actually briefly saw Dick again sometime later and he didn't look any different, so whatever was done to him after that, if anything, certainly wasn't deadly which GIVES ME HOPE FOR THE OTHER GUYS......
Also the sad thing here is the fact that, without the mask, this weird little bastard might actually be cute if he didn't do That with his damn lipstick. At least, I HOPE that's lipstick and he just sucks at wearing makeup?? And the "Welp...shit." moment when Boss lost to him in the Snake Pit but DIDN'T fall down the hole like he was supposed to was fucking hilarious tbh. "Is this allowed?? Can he do that??? Should. Should I do something about this? Mr. Ashram sir???? Is this allowed???? hhhhHHHHHE'S BREAKING THE RULES HGKSLSJFLK?????"
4/10, I'm forever bitter about the fact that ONLY this shadow got unmasked onscreen ;-; IT'S NOT FAIR
Black Eye
Tumblr media
This bitch. This pompous, taunting bitch. He's absolutely terrible and he's perfect and I need to see him again.
He was actually REALLY successful at behaving just like Dyna...except he was acting with an outdated character script because Dyna's not an asshole like that anymore. Black was playing the part of "early s1 Dyna" exceptionally well, though. He was playing mind games exactly like Dyna did back then. The resemblance was uncanny, he even managed to actually unnerve Dyna himself. Flawless execution. Kudos, buddy.
The fucking crystal ball thing is just unbearable though, holy shit he hams it up way too much. I would say that, hell, he MIGHT actually be able to ~see into the future~, considering Clio's Exceptionally Compelling Evidence that spoopy psychic majick possibly does exist to some degree in BeyBurst, buuuut...I know how IRL FAKE psychics work, and they, uh, act exactly like Black. Basically [at risk of oversimplifying], if they can get into your head and make you BELIEVE something's going to happen, then they can make it happen. Which is exactly what Black did to score that Over Finish against Dyna. And Dyna noticed it -- he noticed that he lost that point because Black's words were getting under his skin, and so his hands weren't steady when he launched. And when Dyna stopped believing Black after figuring that out, Black lost. Black's scenes were actually quite nicely written.
10/10. This guy's awful, but he's good, man. What's this overenthusiastic theater kid doing down in a damn torture pit, anyway. He should be out swindling people with palm readings or some shit.
Grey Eye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“IT'S ALL MUSCLE, BRO”
I just can't really form a solid opinion on this one aside from the fact that he seemed like a fun guy? Cooza kicked his ass pretty fast and then he was gone. Hm. 5/10.
Azul/Azure Eye
Tumblr media
Perfect. Perfect and amazing. Very very fluffy and very very nice, how the hell did this sweet boy end up in the torture pit?? He LIKED Valt and Valt's friends -- I think his friendliness was sincere, if not a bit exaggerated and maybe slightly condescending? He certainly wasn't actually mean to them so much as he was really just...playful. More than that, he HELPED Valt. He fucking told Valt how to use his damn beyblade properly [though he wasn't expecting Valt to be able to use a newfound technique so well immediately, but still].
And. And he calls himself "boku-chan" if I'm not mistaken?? Which is a super cutesy way to say "I/me"? He’s like, referring to himself as "cute little me" asdhgklksjg
I'm nnnnnot sure which way is the intended "correct" way to spell his name, though? "Azul" and "Azure" BOTH mean "blue", and they are pronounced exactly the same way with a Japanese accent [there's basically no audible difference between "L"s and "R"s]. Is there any actual official info that explicitly states the correct spelling?? I haven't found any. Most people seem to have gone with "Azure" [including the team subbing the raw episodes], but I was always more inclined to say "Azul" because that's a Spanish word and the Snake Pit is in Mexico?
Also he makes dumb puns. I love him. This one's my favourite shadow guy, no contest. 100/10.
Violet Eye
Poor Violet, oh my god. We didn't even get to see very much of him because Shuu was an asshole lmao.
Seriously, Shuu barged into his room, interrupted his fight, and then kicked him off the platform. Into the Bottomless Doom Pit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That scene with Violet makes me think that literally all of the masked guys probably fucking hate Shuu just as much as Violet and Norman do, hahaha holy shit. He'd throw any of them under the bus [or rather, down the big hole] for so little as just getting in his way when he wants something. Jesus christ.
6/10, Violet was a jackass but he was funny. He played a pretty decent "early s1 Wakiya", too [generically cocky and insulting, etc.] Not NEARLY enough screentime though, thanks Shuu
To cap off the post, the entire concept of these guys is...neat IN THEORY, but actually pretty dumb and of course it didn't fucking work. It was, quite frankly, amazing that Dick managed to beat Boss. Their gimmick was to mimic Valt's friend group, but. You just. You can't fucking beat someone with their own tricks. Particularly when they've been practicing those tricks longer than you have. If they know the shit better than you do, you can't beat them with it. An actor who plays a kickboxer in a movie would likely get the shit beaten out of them by an actual kickboxer. The fakes just...really couldn't win here. •︵•

5.5 Recap
This is for @seven-dragons since she did the same for me when I was in purgatory at my mom’s house out of town and did not have an Internet connection. In case the title does not make it obvious, this post is full of *SPOILERS*
The show starts off with Ethan Young, a Jehovah’s Witness knocking on doors, or ‘witnessing.’  Apparently, the hatred of having random people knock on your door in the middle of the day is universal.  He keeps getting the door slammed in his face, which lets us see he has a bit of a temper. He runs into the victim and it is obvious they had planned to meet about something, but the victim tells him to come back later (he’s angry too).  Some people, who turn out to be the victim’s niece and her husband stop by the house and find Ethan, covered in blood and kneeling over the victim’s body.
*Roll credits and awesome DBM theme song*
Lucien joins Charlie in the victim’s work shed. The victim’s name is Vern, and he is a retired carpenter who was stabbed repeatedly...as acted out by Lucien.
Tumblr media
Back at the Police Station, Charlie and Lucien interview Ethan. Ethan tells them Vern was still breathing when he got there, and insists he tried to find something to stop the bleeding. When asked why he was looking all creepy and kneeling over Vern’s body when the niece found him, he tells them he was praying for Vern because he had not been able to convert him.  He did tell a little lie during the interview, but it’s really not that important.  I did learn more about the Jehovah’s Witnesses during this interview than I have ever learned before, so that’s something. This show is so educational.
Funny Scene - Alice is not in the morgue when Lucien gets there, so he starts without her.  Alice is NOT happy. She actually seems wounded that he started his talking to the dead body bit and didn't wait for her. Anyway, they find a weird fragment in one of the wounds.  Lucien makes sure it is okay with Alice if he brings it home to test it, which is kind of sweet.
Tumblr media
*Going to pick this up a bit or this will take forever*
Charlie and Lucien go to the niece’s house, where the main takeaway is that her husband is a hot tempered jerk.
Back at the police station, Ethan’s mother is having a meltdown. Her friend and ride to the station, a guy named Percy, tells Lawson that he worked with Vern. He also tells Lawson that Ethan is his apprentice. Ethan’s mother, who needs a serious intervention about her overuse of rollers for her bangs - is scaring the crap out of poor Ned. Important takeaway, Ethan’s mother is a bit on the high strung/pain in the ass side. She is not happy they are keeping her son locked up and insists on spending the night in the corridor.
Lucien visits Ethan in the cells to make sure he is okay. I love these scenes, where Lucien shows compassion to people who probably have not received much in their lives.  Charlie interrupts them to say that Lucien “better come quick” because he is needed at home.
HUUUUH? What happened?
Jean burned her arm because she thought she saw someone outside....a hot potato accident.  Lucien is concerned about her seeing this someone, but she just shakes her head and says she was not sure anyone was there. We get to see Lucien bandaging her arm, and Lucien apologizes and acknowledges that the divorce and the business with the church must be weighing heavily on her mind. Jean seems touched that he has noticed, but insists she's fine and he needs to go back to work.
Tumblr media
Lucien and Charlie are back at the scene of the crime to see if the killer could have murdered Vern and escaped in three minutes. The important thing about this scene is that Lucien has rubbed off on Charlie, who is now acting out the crime scenes too. Oh, the murderer could have killed Vern and escaped in time. Also, there are some discrepancies which leads them to believe that the killer looked for something that was hidden in the work shop. They do find a bag from a bakery and over 2000 pounds hidden all over the place.
Tumblr media
This leads them to a secret gambling ring, which is this week’s red herring.  It seems like Vern was murdered because everyone thought he was cheating them out of money.  The big thing we learn is that gambling brings out the worst in people and the niece’s husband is still a big jerk. The most important thing we learn is that Lawson’s dad was a gambler and he was not much fun to live with as a boy.
Rose drops by the house and Jean’s spidey senses tell her that something is on Rose’s mind. Turns out Rose thinks she is pregnant with Charlie’s baby - it’s ultimately a false alarm.  Rose isn’t exactly excited about something ruining her career.  The BIG REVEAL - Jean was pregnant at 19 before she married Christopher.  She had a miscarriage and it was a girl.  She never told anyone else and felt her miscarriage was her punishment for their transgression against God. Will she tell Lucien at some point?????
Charlie gets hit with a tool box by the niece’s jerk husband, but the husband runs into Lucien who pushes him down like he is a feather lite bowling pin.  I’m skipping over a bunch of gambling stuff.
Tumblr media
Jean and Lucien are back in the lab and Jean is being all sciency again! I love how Lucien is teaching her all this lab stuff. They identify the fragment that was found in Vern’s neck as copper.
Tumblr media
Uh Oh, Jean is talking to Father Emery again.  Jean tells him the whole history of the Mei Lin ordeal and Father Emery seems to sympathize with their situation, but stands firm on the position of the church. Jean tells him she needs to hear him say it. He tells her she has to choose between Lucien and the church.  When Jean says she doesn't think she can make that choice, he tells her to ask God for guidance.  Greeeaaaat. Thanks for the help Father!  Actually, he does seem sad that Jean is in this position, but he kinda works for a company that has really strict policies, so his hands are tied.
Charlie and Lucien search Vern’s house again.  They find a lot of things that lead them nowhere, but Lucien works out that Vern was illiterate (comes into play later).  They also find a secret savings account for his niece.
Back to Ethan’s mom’s house. I was hoping they were interrupting the Rollers in the bangs intervention, but the people were just Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She tells them Ethan is working, which leads them to find him impaled and bleeding.  Lucien has to assist in surgery, and uses saline instead of giving him a blood transfusion due to Ethan’s religious beliefs.  I was surprised and a little impressed that a man who seems to have such little respect for religion, would still respect another’s beliefs so much. That’s our Lucien though. We also get to see Lucien in scrubs as a bonus.
Tumblr media
Cute scene where Lawson helps out the niece. They thought she was skipping town, but she was actually running away from her jerk husband. Lawson, who understands what it’s like to live with a compulsive gambler, basically tells her to leave town while her hubby is locked up.  He also gives her the bank account info so she has money for her and her kids.
Jean drinks Lucien’s whiskey again. And, Lucien kisses jean before leaving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FINALLY! The scene we have been waiting for happens with 10 minutes left in the show. Lucien finds a patent for an electric drill that would have made Vern very rich. Percy shows up and Lucien does his big reveal about Percy being jealous. Percy thought he should be included on the patent too. Ethan told Percy he was helping Vern with he paperwork for the drill, which is why Percy tried to kill Ethan.  He needed him out of the way.  It’s just like the other episodes, where Lucien explains the mystery to the murderer. Buuuut, unlike the other times, there are no police officers waiting in the wings. Oops. Percy stabs Lucien, but Lucien bashes Percy over the head even after he was stabbed. Bravo Lucien.  Lucien has to use his own pen as a chest tube to release the pressure of a tension pneumothorax. Just before blacking out, he sees the silhouette of a man in the doorway. First Jean, now Lucien.  Munro perhaps?
Tumblr media
Although I was really hoping we would see Jean find out about Lucien getting stabbed and see her all worried before he regained consciousness, the bedside scenes were very nice and intimate.  When Lucien wakes up, he says, “Ah, Ive missed dinner haven't I?” The best was Alice though. She was soooo excited about Lucien using his own pen as a chest draining tube and wants to ask a bunch of questions after he wakes up. The look Jean gives her is priceless.
Tumblr media
Also, as Charlie is walking out, Lucien says goodnight. Charlie calls him boss. His reply is “Night boss.” Ha
Just when you think that Lucien is about to drop some serious bad news (music and all) after he tells Jean there is something he needs to tell her, he just says he is a throughly bad patient. They giggle and then Jean basically tells him he needs to be more careful, that she almost lost him that night. He basically says he will be more careful by replying, “Understood.”  I am a thousand percent certain that he will not change at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, this was another wonderful episode!
The End. Thank god.
