I'm very curious about how you've been modding Crypt of the Necrodancer. Loved your video of Monomi. Did you add voices/sounds for any other DR characters? :)

Modding Necrodancer skins/voices over existing characters is actually pretty simple (assuming you're on PC/Steam)! Just give the files the same name as the character you want to mod over. The game even lets you add files from the vanilla game and change stuff while the game is open.

The game got rebuilt not too long ago which I guess made modding easier. I don't remember all these tools being around when I first played the game in 2020.

Monomi is still WIP, and I haven't really touched other characters from the official skins (if I do I would probably do Monokuma next). If you want other Danganronpa characters there's some on the Steam Workshop. This Gundham mod that looks great, and a recently released Teruteru mod is what got me to come back to Necrodancer in the first place.

Some news Danganronpa fans may want to hear: Nobuyo Oyama, the famous voice actress of Doraemon, has just passed away of old age at age 90. She also voiced Monokuma.

I’m sorry to hear that. I actually saw your message before I saw that her family publicized the news today. Apparently she passed away on September 29, but they kept it private until now.

She played Monokuma in DR1, DR2, UDG, and Danganronpa: The Animation. She then retired from voice acting in 2016 due to dementia. It’s tragic she had to go through that illness; I hope that at least now she’s at peace.

She’s most famous for voicing Doraemon and Monokuma, though she did have other roles over her roughly 50-year career; she was the title characters of “Hustle Punch,” “Norakuro,” and “Hazedon” in the ‘60s and '70s.

It definitely seems like she specialized in cartoon animals.

Comments: Gack! This took a good while to complete, and I'm worrying that I rushed the ending part.. ah well.. lol ^^

I've been wanting to paint this picture for quite a long time. It was drawn from my IY artbook. This image is of course from my BELOVED episode 48 -- in my opinion the BEST Goku XD episode to date *sniffles* -- which is when Marcus's father, Spencer comforted him when Marcus was deeply depressed with issues concerning Goku XD (not to give any spoilers Spencer then told him about Goshinboku's history in his romance to her mother, Sarah (which I'm guessing was a REALLY sensitive topic for Spencer to speak of since Sarah apparently seems to be kidnaped by Megamind and Minion after she was pregnant with her firstborn child, Marcus.) It was a truly touching moment and I was hoping painting it would help illustrate that bond and trust between father and son.

The foreground characters were painted in solid paints, as well as the bench thing, and the foliage in the background. Watercolor pencils were used for the fence and the sky. I noticed much earlier on that the characters were off-center, but I decided that they'd be okay that way too ^^ The scanner made it look really darkish to the left, but the actual painting rather light ^^

Fates did have some great characters, though, and at least it's possible to get a golden ending where you make peace between nations. Sakura and Elise are absolutely adorable, and hopeymchope mentioned once that he chose Sakura to S-rank with male Corrin, and unlike most shy girls, Sakura has a core of inner strength (in Revelations, she's actually the FIRST royal to believe in Corrin and join him/her, despite her timidity). And in Elise's case, she's the only royal who is never a boss fight.

Fates did have an expansive cast, but quite a few of them were also one note and one dimensional. And because they had a big cast(primarily due to the child units that didn’t need to come back or be a thing here), they also killed a lot of characters that didn’t NEED to die, and I’m still salty about that.

Not to mention, Fates’ whole selling point was picking a side you believed was right. It’s a morally gray story with conflicting interests and issues, but that narrative goes out the window when there’s a very cleary evil dude presented early on(Garon). Or you can explain any issues the family members have with possession done by strictly one person(Anakos).

HopeyMchope recently made a post about the Researcher character and how it is distinctly different from any other non standard character designs Komatsuzaki has designed do you have anything in particular to say about that/any theories about it?

I went ahead and gave the referenced post a quick readthrough for the best context. In all fairness, the Robot Researcher is definitely meant to be seen as a joke/comic relief character. He blatantly says he wants to take a bath with the Ama-Pal when it's returned to him, it's impossible to take him seriously. And so, his joke dialogue is reflected in his nonsensical visual design. It's meant to look off-kilter and make the player uneasy, cause this guy is supposed to be read as weird and strange and maybe even uncanny. Not to mention he's working under the main enemy of the game, so he's untrustworthy not just an an individual but also in proximity to who he works for. Obviously with how detailed his sprite art is, it is possible to make an assumption that his appearance is based off a real person, but I'm not the guy to make that call. Only the artist knows the true intentions behind their work, after all.

hopeymchope, this anon is confused about something. You’ve made it no secret that you detest characters like Kokichi and Hiyoko, and you’ve expressed noticeable (and very vocal) distaste for the bullying apologist attitude of modern fandom.

What confuses this anon is, why do you sometimes reblog fan art of those two characters? Most bloggers don’t give a “platform” to characters or worldviews they despise. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I think I can answer that in couple of different ways.

1) While I do hate the characters as people and also greatly dislike this attitude of woobifying highly problematic characters (y'know, the kind of crowd who would say something like "The Joker did nothing wrong"), I also don't mind having those characters in the narratives as a whole. In fact, I do think they add something to their stories/games! I view Kokichi as a really compelling antagonist. I think Hiyoko represents a personality type that is very believable and sadly very present in our world. in some people. I don't think it's wrong for them to be there. I just think it's wrong to like them for what they add. Kind of like Junko Enoshima: Great villian, great character, but I absolutely do not endorse her or her actions in any way, she is CLEARLY wrong.

To summarize: If I think someone is a good enemy/villain/antagonist, I might very well like some art of that character, but that doesn't mean I also endorse them as a person, y'know?

(Admittedly, some of these artists I'm reblogging might legitimately celebrate and adore and want to protect these characters, so maybe I'm furthering that attitude unintentionally... but I can't really know that from an art post, typically.)

2) At the same time, I sometimes share artwork of ships or situations I don't like just because I like the artwork itself that much. So sometimes, I get lured into posting artwork of something I don't necessarily support just because I wanted to share the art itself?

Anon suggested this to hopeymchope once before, but I'll suggest it here as well: it might be best to stop taking asks from Hiyoko fans entirely if this is how they're going to act. These people want you to write like Elements of Justice, which demonized Sweetie Belle into a "two-faced manipulator and blackmailer" to make Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon look better and also villainized Turning Page for sticking up for bullying victims. It may be time to "put your foot down" just like with Nagito.

Yeah, I'm effectively done with those guys too.

And god, Elements of Justice. Holy shit... There are a cavalcade of reasons as to why I didn't like the second case and while I wouldn't word it like that, that was so..."not good" on Sweetie Belle's half. No one is right in that case.
