In a land where trees are energy, they are hope and warmth, they are the economy and they are light, but in this land the tree is threatened and the economy is at risk of failing. So as we grow #hopeoftheafricantree we encourage communities to replace the trees they have cut down. The consequences are dire. #tree #treeoflife #trees #treeplanting #charcoal #economy #food #life #hope #money #survival #shopping #bicycle #transport @hopeoftheafricantree @amaroksouthafrica @rsi.smartcanopy #rsismartcanopy #africa #african @dream_of_africa_ @journeysdiscoveringafrica @photooftheday_sa @africageo @gomagsa @getawaymagazine @travelafricamagazine (at Lusaka, Zambia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8lO6mhpn4C/?igshid=1ip0to6a2dqcb

The Kosi Bay fish traps provide the perfect opportunity for young mangroves to take root and expand I to the estuary area. This does pose issues for the fisherman as they begin to collect sediment and will ultimately reduce the effectiveness of the fish traps. This place is an epic place to visit and kayak through the fish traps with a guide and learn about the fish traps. #fishing #mangrove #hopeoftheafricantree #fisherman #kosibay #southafrica #kzn #fish #tree #estuary #naturephotography @southafricanskies @southafricaza @instagram_sa #travelawesome #travel @travelawesome @gomagsa @getawaymagazine @southafrica @durbanism_ @kzntourism (at Kosi Bay)

A bad day fishing beats a good day in the office, but a great days fishing has no limits. A local fisherman with his catch from the traditional fish traps at Kosi Bay. Today there are huge numbers of traps made from local wood. The question is whether or not this sustainable practice is still truly sustainable? #hopeoftheafricantree #fishing #fish #fishtrap #kosibay #consumer #poverty #river #wealth #sustainable #hunter #travelawesome #tradition #adventure #foodforthought #foodporn #food #foodie #kzn #southafrica @wonderlust.southafrica @instagram_sa @southafricaza @southafrica @meetsouthafrica @visitsouthafrica @shotleft @natgeoyourshot @kzntourism @africanheritage_ (at Kosi Bay)

The threat of deforestation and landscape degradation takes shape in many ways. The charcoal industry could be a sustainable industry if charcoal producers replanted trees they chop down. If good rangeland management took place over stocking would be limited thereby limiting vegetation loss and damage. Sadly though in rural areas the knowledge of land management is limited and access to sustainable energy is severely limited. #hopeoftheafricantree #charcoal #cow #cattle #erosion #rural #rurallife #farmer #farming #farm #fire #foodsecurity #foodforthought #electricity #energy #canonsouthafrica #canon @conservationtravelafrica @africanwildlifefoundation @africageo @africanamazing @africanheritage_ @weareafrica @travelawesome @greenpeace

"Saruman believes that it is only great power tht can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary people that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love". Gandalf the Grey from the Hobbit. We so often underestimate the value of ourselves and our self worth. It is when we truly understand that we are capable of making a difference, bringing positive change and building a strong society, it is then that our small acts collectively add up to significance. #hopeoftheafricantree #economyoflove #lifequotes #lifematters #passion #naturephotography #nature #people #elephants #wildlifematters #peoplematter #erp #elephantrhinopeople #thehobbit #gandalf #selflove #selfworth #africainspired #africa #wildlifebabies #animalbabies #davidsheldrickwildlifetrust #kenya #conservation #africanimals Safely driven by @amaroksouthafrica Supported by @rsi.smartcanopy as part of the @hopeoftheafricantree @africa_nature @wildlife.hd @babyanmlpics @animalbabies_ @enormouselephantrun @outandaboutafrica @africa @stuart_queripel (at David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCDONGcpYQE/?igshid=1snmwwzvqcd5j

The Redwoods forest of Rotarua is an incredible spot to visit. The effort that has gone into to development of the section of forest as a tourist attraction to get all inspired with the beauty and ultimately the conservation of trees is mind blowing. The canopy walkway is incredible, especially at night with the phenomenal light display. #rotarua #redwoods #forest #canopy #canopywalk #newzealand #tourism #adventure #beauty #bucketlist #beinspired #hopeoftheafricantree #nightlife #explore #economy #valueadd #travelphotography #travelgram #traveltheworld #naturephotography #naturelovers #natureimages @naturephotographytravel @lovenature @travelnewzealandwithme @purenewzealand @earthfever @naturelover_gr @arbourtrees (at Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_U3CeXppkj/?igshid=tpsc8ua5ltwf

The blue water and white sandy beach of Kilwa Masoko in Tanzania is a paradise of its own. Here the bay provides a safe harbour for the many subsistence and small scale commercial fishermen. Many still use traditional makoros and hand carved boats, often from locally harvested trees. The trees are a way to allow the fishermen to work, but the extensive plunder of the trees for charcoal and illicit deforestation for the Chinese is putting many people at risk. You do have some amazing projects in this area whereby communities are now replanting their forests as the realize the need for trees for tomorrow and how the trees can be used to build a sustainable economic future. #fish #fishing #traditional #deforestation #hopeoftheafricantree #treeoflife #trees #charcoal #sea #ocean #beach #holiday #tourism #travelawesome #drone #dji #droneoftheday #dronestagram #aerial #photography #adventure #passion #economy #money #future #wwf #future #earthmagazine #gomagsa @empowersafrica @afrikainpictures @rhinoafrica @tasteforafrica @africanheritage_ @canon_photos @endextinctionintl @southafricaza @gomagsa (at Kilwa Masoko)

It's not the Battle for Middle Earth, but the Battle for the Earth. In many countries in Africa charcoal and firewood are the only sources of energy people have. But without replanting trees the forests are disappearing and soon it will just be bare land. It's a battle to build a sustainable industry and improve their living conditions while bringing back the trees. #hopeoftheafricantree #deforestation #trees #treeoflife #forest #charcoal #wood #economy #energy #fire #money #lifestyle #rainforest #education #earthmagazine #earth #battle #war #warmth #cooking #food #photooftheday #photography #naturephotography @empowersafrica @travelafricamagazine @tasteforafrica @rhinoafrica @africanheritage_ @africa_nature @afrikainpictures @africa @southafricaza (at Vilankulo, Inhambane, Mozambique)

Same may see this as Beautiful, but others will see this as an ecological disaster. Both are correct. But in this instance this image should be lush mist belt forest in the South African KZN Midlands. The forest has been replaced with the invasive gum trees and ginger. Only through a concerted effort can this forest be reborn. #hopeoftheafricantree #treeart #treeoflife #tree #trees #ginger #gumtree #invasive #forest #rainforestalliance #southafrica #aliens #plant @african_portraits #greenpop #green #waterwise #water @wwf_ #rainforestalliance #mistbelt (at Hilton, KZN)

As part of the #hopeoftheafricantree project a new chapter has been started, Tree Art. Here one of the first to take on the challenge to showcase her drawing skills (of course way better than mine) to tell a story of why she sees trees as an important part of life and a vital component of life on Earth today. #treeart is a way to reach the younger generation to share a great story to get them well rooted onto conserving our remaining natural infrastructure. #treeoflife #trees #tree #art #artwork #naturecalls #children #environment #nature #future #creation #education #poptree #rainforest @travelafricamagazine @empowersafrica @afrikainpictures @artnewsafrica @arochasa @arochaint @wwf #rainforestalliance #greenpop #forest (at Bent Fork Country Kitchen & Crafters Corner)

The amazing Mt Kilimanjaro and the tourist hub of Moshi. An incredible and diverse location bring thousands of adventurers together from around the world. As climate change slowly takes a grip on the mountains ever decreasing glaciers, in years to come there might not be any snow up there during the warmer summer months. There is no valid reason that we as humans should not protect and care for our natural environment. The beauty and freedom it offers us is the true adrenaline we need to get through the day. The creation around us is enduring beyond us, but will we be good stewards of what we have and pass on a beautiful planet to our children or will we wallow in our greed, laziness and self fulfillment at the expense of the earth and the people around us? The Tsitsa Falls is an amazing place to visit and enjoy the tranquility of nature and splendour of raw power. #waterfall #natural #nature #naturephotography #dronestagram #dji #phantom #hopeoftheafricantree #transkei #travelawesome #save #beautiful #beauty #river #water #conservation #bucketlist #umhlontlonaturereserve #tsitsafalls @weareafrica @africageo @outthereglobal @travelawesome @africanamazing @etc_africa @africanheritage_ @instagram_sa @southafricaza @loveafricamarketing #bucketlist (at Tsitsa River)
