there is interesting johndean subtext and insinuations across kripke era, usually through an antagonist insinuating parent-child sexual violence in order to exert dominance over dean. this type of mockery exploits that ambiguous relationship between john and dean and reminds dean that he never had a normal relationship with his father, and that makes him gross and wrong. it doesn't actually matter in the end whether john was sexually abusive to dean. the core of their relationship was damning enough: dean was made to take the place of john's wife—to comfort john and raise sam—while simultaneously being his son. the codependent nature of their relationship implies the incest that underscores their dynamic. again, this is regardless of what literally occurred between dean and john because there is enough doubt toward the nature of their relationship that multiple antagonists can use it against them.

sonwife, brotherhusband—dean is stuck in a liminal space between family and lover and is unable to put his feet firmly on just one side and instead has to accept both together or abandon both together. he doesn't get to have a relationship with his family without it being simultaneously incestuous. he plays the role of wife to john and mother to sam as mary's replacement; he therefore becomes more than a son and transcends the boundaries of the familial into the incestuous. it's baked into the dynamic and he can't hope to escape the liminality in which he's stuck without abandoning his entire family altogether.

this ambiguous relationship is further acted out with sam, where people perceive them as lovers rather than brothers; where their mutual devotion trumps, neglects, and disallows any other close relationship outside each other; where their physical closeness is viewed through an unusually sexual lens despite no literal sex acts between them taking place on screen. once again dean is stuck in a liminal space, paralleling the ambiguous and uncertain relationship he had with john.

in the end, sex (and sexual violence) is just a symbol of this codependency and uncertainly incestuous dynamic. sex acts in kripke era end up being symbolic: misinterpretations of sam and dean's relationship; accusations of sexual violence; literal, on-screen sexual moments between the brothers and someone else. it's a literary device that highlights the incestuous themes of the show. dean hand-picks women for sam to fuck because it allows dean to be symbolically part of sam's sex life. henricksen accuses john of raping dean because it is a symbol of the unhealthy, codependent relationship dean had with his father. the samulet stays on during sex because sam is symbolically integral to dean's sexual gratification (seen too in the way both dean and cassie in 1.13 appear to kiss the amulet at least once in the dark room). sex is used to signify more than what's literally on the screen, and the connections between the literal sex acts and the blurred lines of dean's familial relationships allow for a reading of incest between both john and dean and sam and dean.

it never mattered whether johndean or samdean had a sexual relationship in the canon because that was never the point. the point is the liminality that permeates the narrative. sam, dean, and john all stand upon a threshold between acceptable and taboo. the point of it all is the doubt and anxiety, the are-they-aren't-they that is never answered. the absence of incest within the text invites the understanding that the incest was, in fact, always there.

Hey, I remember you mentioning on your IG something about two types of popular artists and one being good at social media and the other being good at art or something like that (I can't really remember lol). But it got me thinking, any tips for how to be good at social media? Cuz I'm certainly not even after posting art for six years lol

Heya!

What I meant by that is that there are traits that allow you to grow on social media, and traits that determine what a highly skilled artist is, and those traits do not always necessarily overlap.

I've seen so many amazing artists that post artwork that blow my head off, and yet they don't have many likes. On the other hand, some artists at the same skill level who draw more popular things will get way more attention.

That is not to say that either is the correct way to create art, but there is definitely a formula to social media that is in play.

There are a lot of posts about how to grow a social media account, particularly on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram art spheres, and imo you really need to examine what you want from your art before jumping into social media mode

The stuff you create to pander to social media might not be art that you want to create at all - I'm lucky, because I am less artist more storyteller, and what I enjoy is telling jokes and silly stories to liven up people's moods :] this, of course, conveniently does well on social media. On a personal note, I have a history of being a recluse and not connecting well with people, and art is my way of trying to communicate my feelings, one way or another.

So of course, if you draw for any reason other than my own, my approach to art and it's relation to social media might be inappropriate for you.

All that being said, if u take a look at those "get big on social media" videos they always cite the same few points... And you can look into that, for sure, but this video sums up how I feel about all that.

I spent like 20 minutes drafting words after the above paragraph, but I really ended up regurgitating sentiments from the video... So really don't listen to me, listen to that video

EDIT:

I just realised I didnt actually answer the question with my anecdotal experience, so here's a list of things I did

1. Posted like 3 doodles a day on social media

I did this for 6 months on a side account on Twitter recently and got the account to 11k followers... And I did this for 3 months on Instagram a few years ago and I think got 3.5k followers. Of course, do not spam maliciously and make sure your art is still of good quality, but for those artworks I posted quickly, I did not colour, and mostly did clean sketches. This also trains you in the matter of line confidence haha. Again, this worked for me because of my set of circumstances (love for the media, want to tell stories, simple art style)

2. Focus on my favourite aspects of media

This helps with respect to burnout - kinda hard to burnout when you love what you're making! For me, it's character interactions and comics. I want to see my blorbos kiss and if I'm not the one drawing it who will?!

3. Interact with people

People eat up work that they can interact with. A choose your own story situation, one of those like/rt to strip a character 😭 those do numbers for a reason.

Additionally, if you post stuff people love, people will respond to it with comments, maybe their own headcanons, adding on to the work... I've gone into long looong Twitter thread conversations with people who added onto my ideas that I threw up onto the screen and I think it's also a nice thing to do to respond to positive comments haha... I'm not very good at this (read: bad at communication)

Ok you know what frick it I’m gonna talk about my idea for a TMNT and Sky AU crossover

this is kinda an excuse to say what would happen if my Sky OCs meet the turtles, now as for which version I want to say 2012 and Rise because I watched and completed both show, I do have a few ideas for 2003 but since I have not finished watching it I don’t really have much to add

now the basic idea is that it’s starts in the Rise dimension (6 months to a year after the movie) where Big Mama wants to find more warriors for her Battle Nexus, so thanks to some crazy science and magic she gains a device that can open up portals to different dimensions. Her idea is to find the greatest warriors and monsters from different dimensions, which leads to Dawn and her siblings being captured by big mama.

when the Turtles hear rumors of Big Mama holding a big event, they decided to investigate to see what’s she up to, it leads to the discovery of the portal device and the warriors she captured from the other dimensions, with Dawn being one of them

the Turtles free Dawn and the other Warriors but unfortunately Dawn’s siblings “Lloyd and Lilac” were separated from her, so she asks the others to help her find them, but one thing leads to another and The Turtles and Dawn have to retreat.

Seeing Dawn heartbroken the turtles offer to lend a hand in help her find her siblings and stay with them, so begins an adventure of Finding the alternative dimension warriors, returning them home, stopping Big Mama, and finding Dawn’s brother and sister

Now hopeful enough people see this and like it because it’s been an idea for a AU I’ve had on my mind for a while, I even had an idea for Yuichi Usagi being a part of the AU but since I’ve never seen the show he’s from or know much about him I kinda scratched the idea, but I may add him as one of the warriors that big mama captured

now as for how Dawn meets the 2012 turtles I kinda has idea of in Dawn’s attempt to catch a enemy she chases after them through a portal which leads to the 2012 dimension

Hey, just wanna say that I love your "blabber" posts, especially when you answer asks. I understand why someone would feel like they're being annoying but I just want to be another person to tell you that you're not, and if anyone doesn't vibe with your thoughts then they can indulge somewhere else. You seem like such an incredibly open-minded person with a very big heart. You're clearly so passionate about what you do and you love to share what you know. Even when you've disagreed with something or felt hurt (like feeling envious of others, like you say), or felt that you've done wrong, you always respond with such heartfelt thoughts. You always make it known that YOU KNOW what's up and how you're dealing or planning to deal with it rationally. You're clearly working hard to better the parts of yourself that you're not happy with and that makes you an amazing person in the truest sense of the word. Can I ask how you made the lil kny chocolate bombs? they’re SO CUTE

Yes of course! I bought a KNY chocolate making kit (from Bandai) from Amazon JP. But it’s not actually intended for hot cocoa bombs, so I had to improvise a little.

The molds are intended to be filled completely with chocolate and pressed together while the chocolate is warm to make one solid piece, but that doesn’t work when you need to have them filled with cocoa powder. So after a few tries, I figured out how to make it work!

If you want to make them too, I have steps listed below! It’s not that difficult once you get the hang of things!

The little picture of chocolate Inosuke with a pink nose inspired me to try out the molds in full color! Fun fact, you can buy some things off Amazon JP if you’re in the US. You do need to pay for somewhat expensive shipping, but it was cheaper to buy this from Japan than second-hand via eBay for me!

You will obviously need chocolate for this. Theoretically anything could work, but I used colored candy melts from the craft store and some almond bark stuff from Walmart. Melt it per package instructions, which is usually the microwave. The cup they give you in the kit is actually awesome, it kept the melted chocolate SO warm. But I was using so many colors for the set that I actually filled a Pyrex dish with boiling water and kept my tiny heat-safe glasses of colored chocolate in the water to keep them liquid enough to work with. If you’re going to use a lot of colors, it’s good to be strategic with the order of melting colors. If you’re doing just one of two colors you won’t need the dish of water.

For the fully colored ones I did small layers of colored candy melts and let each layer cool completely before adding the next one. This is why it took 2 hours lmao. When I made them with just plain chocolate it took significantly less time (maybe 30 min total with cool times for all 6?)

So for Inosuke I had to do the little white dot on his eyes, let it cool, add the blue, let it cool, then add MORE white! You’ll do this until the entire mold is coated with chocolate, but you want the layers to be pretty thin so you can add as much cocoa mix as possible. I was using toothpicks for small details and chopsticks for larger portions like the clothes.

HOWEVER if you just want to make solid colors or way less detailed bombs, you can just coat the entire mold in a thin layer of chocolate. Either way you want the cavity of the mold to be pretty big because that’s where the cocoa mix goes.

It’s hard to see, but one side of the mold doesn’t have chocolate up to the rim of the mold. There’s like a fraction of a cm of space. Let them cool completely.

Once cool, you’ll fill ONE side with cocoa mix. This is just a pre-made mix, but you can do anything you want. Cocoa mix is basically just cocoa powder and sugar lol. I also tried this with flavored milk tea powder! Since the other side is hollow, you can make a tiny mountain of the mix instead of just filling it to the top of the cavity.

Because the chocolate is cool, the two sides will not fit together on their own. This is why I left a tiny bit of space on the other mold.

Cover just the rim of the character on the opposite mold with hot melted chocolate. You can be a little messy here because the extra stuff will get smooshed to the side, away from the character. Match the notches when the chocolate is HOT (if it’s only kinda warm it won’t attach as well) and smoosh. You see the super thin layer of chocolate outside the character area? That will break off when you open the mold. Make sure the chocolate is totally surrounding the entire rim of the character because if there are any gaps, the mix will leak out when it is taken out of the mold.

Let it cool completely in your fridge (or at room temp, I guess?) for like 10 minutes and it should pop right out of the mold! If it doesn’t, you can also carefully press one side of the mold to take the character out.

And boom! You’re done! Now you can drown your faves in the hot milk or beverage of your choice! Go forth and eat your blorbos!

(sounds of Eiji crying as Yurika keeps talking)

Yurika: THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE!

Yurika: HEY, WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?! WHY CAN'T YOU TWO ACT NORMAL FOR ONCE?!

(the bell rings, machinery sounds)

Yurika: Come on, just let me watch my video for once.

Yurika: I just want to know what is going on here.

Yurika: If you give me the answers, I promise, I won't hurt anyone here-

Miki: And if I don't?

Miki: Also, seriously, are you trying to blackmail the guard right now?

Yurika: .. Let's just say I'll start with the younger ones.

Miki: .. You make me sick.

Yurika: Haha, so you don't want to save me anymore-

Her MV would have different shades of red and pink (mostly the darker ones) as its colors.

Her MV starts with weird monster-like creatures (if you need a reference, they look a little bit like INMF Muu, but without the queen bee motifs) that kind of look like Yurika and her manager, Takame, plus some other creatures standing around a red coffin with a creepy flesh or meat-like texture that keeps pulsating, almost like it's an internal organ. Everything is silent and we can only hear a heartbeat-like sound coming from it.

When the coffin finally stops moving, the manager nods and Yurika immediately stabs it with her sword, causing it to bleed, though the blood is pastel pink and even looks like some kind of cream. All other creatures cheer and the song starts.

"Ah yes, that's how we do things in this world

It may be scary, but that's just how the adults' life is

I will do anything to put food on my plate

So keep ordering me around, I'll do what you say"

The creatures reveal that they've actually been holding buckets all this time and Yurika and her manager start filling them with parts of that coffin and its "blood".

"But I'm not the only one who's like that

Everyone has their own needs and it's our job to satisfy them

Think of us as heroes, we just want to help"

When they're finally done, all creatures walk away and the manager smiles at her gently, making Yurika smile back and blush.

"I'm not a fan of relying on people like that

If I could become more independent, I would've left you a long time ago

But as long as you keep giving me everything I want

I will stay by your side, like your personal maid"

Then Takame turns around and sees a bigger monster bringing two people that look like they're statues made entirely out of chocolate. We can't see any of their features clearly, but Yurika looks excited and even proud.

"Yes, I was the one who did it! You will reward me, right?

They were standing in our way, punish them, give them what they deserve"

Takame simply thanks that monster and asks it to leave them there. She turns to Yurika and gives her a smile again, though it looks a bit more scary this time.

The scene changes and now it looks like Yurika, Takame and those people are eating together. The walls look.. weird. It's like all of them are inside some kind of creature, the walls are red and they keep pulsating and you can still hear the sound of heartbeat throughout the song. Their guests don't have any appetite at all and they're not eating anything. Both of them look extremely uncomfortable.

Suddenly, one of them turns to Yurika and Takame and starts talking to them about something and the chocolate slowly starts to melt, revealing actual human body.

"What are you trying to say? Do you really think you have any rights in this place?

"Let's think about it more", "Let's calm down", who do you think you are?

You should be begging for mercy, stop pretending that you're braver than you really are"

We still can't see that person well, because now all focus is on the other guest who decides to leave quietly while Yurika and Takame are too busy listening to the first guest. As they move, the chocolate melts as well.

Yurika seems interested in whatever the first person is saying and turns to Takame who smiles, nods and then throws her fork right into that person's heart. The chocolate melts completely and that person's human body disappears, leaving nothing but liquid. The chorus starts playing as Yurika laughs and claps her hands, but then she notices that the second guest is nowhere to be found. Yurika leaves the dining room and tries to find that other guest and as she runs, more and more holes start to appear in the walls.

"I can't disappoint you, no, no, I won't give up

I've come so far, turning back equals death in this world"

When Yurika stops for a second to look at them, it turns out that all holes have arms inside of them (that also look like they're made out of chocolate, but they move like they're completely human). The arms start trying to grab Yurika by her hair, arms, etc and she continues running after that other guest while also avoiding the arms.

"Stop saying it was my fault, you would do the same!

I'm nothing but a victim, I was just a follower, why don't you punish the leader instead?

Stop acting like you're better than me, you're just like me

You would do anything to make the stronger one like you"

When she can finally see that person, the chocolate is almost completely gone and the only body part that still has chocolate on it is their arm and it looks like that person is a young woman with light pink hair and green and purple eyes. She tries to have a conversation with Yurika and tries to calm her down and holds her hand out to her.

"What do you mean, you're forgiving me?

You understand me, you know what it's like?

Your words taste so sweet, but here's the thing

I never liked sweet things, so why don't you shut up?"

She gives her a smile, but Yurika only stands there until suddenly, she bites that woman's chocolate hand off, making her whole body turn into that pastel pink liquid from the beginning.

She turns around and sees Takame and smiles at her while still having the hanf in her mouth. The chorus plays again, but if you listen closer, you can also hear Yurika sing "I don't need your forgiveness, I will save myself" over and over. Takame smiles approvingly and shows that the creatures are back with their buckets. Yurika spits the hand out, nods and puts the hand in the first creature's bucket.

"You have to agree, there's nothing more bitter than losing all your power"
