DAMN!!! Diamond Pistols drops "Gold Rush" ft. Reese and it is Huge!
This new one by Diamond Pistols ft. Reese is fan-fucking-tastic. We have been away for a little bit so it's nice to come back to hearing just some truly incredible music leading into the festival season. This tune "Gold Rush" originally premiered on Earmilk. I love the breakdown with acoustic guitar and repetitive vocal patterns laid over the top that leads us into a full dismount into pure beautiful aural bliss before building right back into a beautiful drop. Diamond Pistols does it again! Future bass is a genre that some ridicule and some fucking just piss on. I love it. I have been covering the likes of Wave Racer and had Ryan Hemsworth use some of my photos from Movement 2014. Yes, years before you hated the genre some of us were already doing work in it. I'm so over so many people in dance music who only hold onto genres that have been around for decades. Not allowing advancement doesn't sound very "techno" to me. But hey, who am I but a two bit Downriver-Rat who just loves bass heavy pretty music to smoke to.
Check it out below and make sure to give Diamond Pistols a follow on Soundcloud.

Chris Cornell of Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/Audioslave Has Passed Away
Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and several solo projects has passed away from an apparent suicide at his MGM Casino and Hotel suite here in Detroit, Michigan. Cornell and Soundgarden had just played to a sold-out Fox Theatre hours before he was found by a friend. Detroit Police are investigating it as a possible suicide.
Cornell has had a history of addiction and substance abuse and has talked openly about his battles throughout his lifetime. He was a huge influence on me as a kid growing up in the 90s. I was weird, often misunderstood, angry, and highly emotional. Grunge spoke to me the same way Punk and Hardcore were speaking to me. I've spent all morning jamming different tunes by the man and it's pretty wild to think of how much artists can impact you, even when they're not on the walls or tattooed on your skin.
I really appreciate the music and the legacy you left behind, I just wish you would have stayed longer to see it through to the end. Suicide is such a fucking tough subject to talk about. I talk about openly because for nearing 20 years my friends have continuously taken their lives. One after another. Enough to make me start an organization Hope and Bass, to raise awareness for mental health issues and suicide prevention within dance music and underground music cultures.
You can't use drugs excessively and not expect to have some sort of issues to deal with at some point in your life. I forget shit all the time. I stutter. I have blacked out. I get headaches. I never had those before. I have such a harder time focusing than I ever did when I was younger. And I wholeheartedly believe that most of these side effects are from long-term drug use. I can't imagine what a rockstar is capable of doing because we did a lot and we are still nothing to this day. To be an arena sellout band in the 90s and survive all this time, it's impeccable to me.
But now 3 of the 4 horsemen are gone. We will always miss you, Chris. I hope you found peace. And I hope if things are even worse than what the media is reporting, that they give you some fucking respect and let it go. The cause of death is suicide, then let it be.
This is my favorite song by Soundgarden and I hope you all jam this and smoke weed at my funeral. I'm gonna do some dabs for Chris. I hope you all keep hope, it is incredibly hard watching your heroes die. Live more. Later kids.

Mt. Eden - Sierra Leone (feat. Freshly Ground) [TWO OWLS Remix]
The funny thing about a lot of dance music goers is they skip over samples and expect every producer or DJ just writes every single note they play. I always loved "Sierra Leone" by Mt. Eden but knowing that the hook wasn't there's at all changed things way back in 2009 when this went viral. You're talking a non-commercial production duo sampling an unknown artist (to American ears) and it becoming one of the first big dubstep hits in the world. With well over 100 million views on Youtube and well over 200k subscribers on youtube, it's safe to say that Mt. Eden will go down in bass history as one of the first to break through to mainstream sound systems. With all that being said, a new official remix was dropped this week by Two Owls. Typically I don't get down on a lot of Ultra Music's releases but this one was good enough for me. You can get this tune through Itunes HERE. And it is pretty damn good if you ask me, check it out below!

Dave Clarke Live at Exit 2016 Full HD Show!
Exit Festival is an award-winning summer music festival which is held at the Petrovaradin Fortress in the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. The stage setup for the mts Dance Arena is great. The one thing I really love about festivals today is the attention to video and covering of their own festivals. Giving us audio sets are great and we all do appreciate them, especially since nowadays the quality is unreal. Although, more and more festivals have been releasing full HD video sets from some of the biggest artists in the world. Dave Clarke is one of them. In Detroit whenever I ever have talked about him, it has been about his 2002 underground set which pretty much was my first introduction into techno at all. He is a legend in my book, and this set shows that he has done nothing but grow his certainly heavy driving brand of techno since that set 15 years ago. Champion. Check out the set below. Anyone got a couple grand so I can get to Serbia for the next Exit Festival?
EXIT Festival in 2017 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Next year, EXIT will mark some of the most important events from 1967 when the revolutionary Peace Movement began and changed the world forever. GALLERY: SHRBRT's Favorite Photos From Warped Tour Auburn Hills 2016
One of the last projects we did before starting SHRBRT was to photograph the Vans Warped Tour in July of 2016. This was actually the event where I decided I needed to split off from Hope and Bass and start my own outlet. That day was very inspiring and I have done a lot more work with photogrpahy, and networking since deciding to split up the coverage of events with a new magazine style media outlet.  The Vans Warped Tour is one of the longest running tours in the world. It has helped catapult the careers of endless amounts of artists. Not to mention each city the tour stops in gets donations in the form of canned goods and monetary donations from ticket sales. Not every city gets the same donation amount, nor does it go to just one charity.
Kevin Lyman (Warped's founder) runs a tight ship and makes sure his bands and staff respect one another and don't get too out of hand. It's basically a damn summer camp for most kids, one day a year to be around all your friends outside sweating and listening to some of your favorite bands in punk, ska, hardcore, metal, and beyond. The last time I had went to the Warped Tour here in Michigan was in 2005 at the Pontiac Silverdome, so it had been a minute since I graced the gates at a Warped date.
Some of my favorite artists played in 2016. I was pretty stoked to see some bands I hadn't seen yet also including The Story So Far, Motionless In White, Emarosa, The Interrupters, Real Friends, and Sleeping With Sirens. Not a single band sucked or was having an off day, even in over 100 degree muggy Michigan weather.
Here are my favorite images I took during the Auburn Hills, Michigan stop of the 2016 Vans Warped Tour. 2016 as a whole was about retrospection and nostalgia for me. Warped Tour fit that mold perfectly with sets from Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Every Time I Die, Sum 41, Yellowcard, and more, making the hour long trek up to Auburn Hills was definitely worth it. So let's check some of my favorite photos from each set.
Warped Tour 2017 is going to be one for the record books. Rumors have surfaced about the lineup, and we would hate to spread false bull shit. Just know that on March 22nd tickets go on sale and the full lineup will be released! Make sure to visit Vans Warped Tour on all their social accounts and give the bands from last year all the love they deserve! We will see you this summer Warped Tour! Find Chris aka Sherburt if you can!
***If you use or repost any photos, please tag us on social media and give us, the artists, and Vans Warped Tour credit. We are DIY as it comes, please do not steal from us.***

Hope and Bass hiatus has come to an end...
So the last few months I have been dealing with a lot at my old job (which I left) and it led me to audit myself and what I wanted to do with my life. I needed to change things. During the hiatus from working on Hope and Bass I came to the realization that this right here is what I want to be doing. Running multiple websites, documenting music and culture in my community, and pushing different ideas into the world to better help the people we encounter.
I didn't know what the next phase of Hope and Bass was going to be until today. I still want to run this as a media outlet and specifically cover dance music.
I also am running my own media outlet called SHRBRT.com. Check it out. I will be running concurrent postings between the two. So you will see different types of music posts that might not define dance music. I am opening both sites to cover whatever I feel like. The artist collective is still as strong as ever. Most of our artists are still pushing in their respective fields. I am super proud of all of them too.
I just wanted to let everyone know that we will be coming back in a few short weeks to regular posts and features. So if you want to submit your material to be put on our site, please send us a message at [email protected]. Do not message us on facebook or twitter. Send us an email with a link to your music and what music you want to be reviewed or promoted, and we will get back to you. If you hear nothing back, it's safe to say we passed on your work. Don't get discouraged. Keep at it! Anyway, here'es to 2017!

An update on the future of Hope and Bass
Hey guys, Chris here... I wanted to update the world on what the future holds for Hope and Bass. As you know we started out as a baked out idea on the couch a couple years ago. Reveling in the after Movement Festival 2014 buzz, (I covered the festival for Party Life) it opened my mind big time. I decided to start a record label and it was called Hope and Bass. While coming up with the roster of dj's I wanted to see produce and producers I wanted to release tunes by, I found that it was really easy for me to write about this music. I then came up with the website and started utilizing more of my writing capabilities.  About 5 months after the original idea I launched the website and it became really obvious to me that I could start covering music and events the way I already was for other companies and websites. So now the idea of it being more than a record label and artist collective came into play. The whole time my idea of profiting was hilarious. I figured any money that would come in would just go right back to releases or to charities for suicide prevention. I half-assed pieced together a compilation that never really got off the ground. It was then I realized I could just keep writing and taking pictures of artists and I will post about mental health causes too.  So no longer was it about writing music or finding music to release, it became more about finding music to promote because it was really good and if I felt that strong about it, then maybe I should promote it even more. I realized I wasn't a label-head, at least not yet. I realized I was just another broker writer, photographer, and musician. It hasn't stopped me from continuing this venture. So our future as a record label is pretty much over. All the artists can retain their artist affiliations but from here on out, our main focus and goal is to be a fully functioning music media outlet. One that doesn't just cover dance music either. Hope doesn't have to necessarily be tied to only mental health, as Bass does not only have to be tied to bass music.  Thank you for staying around. Thank you for not being too condescending in your comments online. Our Facebook is pretty much done with. We get more views and reach through our other networks to the point where it's a waste of time to even be on Facebook. If 200 people see a post on Facebook, 10,000 will see it on twitter. I love you all and I hope all the artists and affiliates understand that I have been doing this whole thing by myself and I expect nothing from anyone about this. I just want a place to keep writing about music and I want to broaden my horizons for both this idea and for my future. I also am looking to expand in photography, so if you ever need a photographer for promo pics or an event, get at me! I apologize for this not being what it was originally meant to be. With that being said, if you send me your tunes, if I dig it, I will totally feature it on Hope and Bass. I wish you all the very best and if anyone wants to work on music or new projects just hit me up. Oh, and I want to reignite the Hope and Basscast, so if you're down, again hit me up. If anyone needs to get a hold of me, send me an email at [email protected]

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Chris (sherburt) Smith Remix WIP)
I have taken a break from this WIP and have come back to realizing it is going to sound so much different when it gets fully released next year. The thing is, it has already touched a lot of people in the short time it has been online. I have yet to really promote it because it is still a WIP. Then again when one of Michigans original Drum and Bass Lords approaches you to debut it WORLDWIDE on one of the biggest Drum and Bass Radio Stations in the World, you do it.
I have been told it has made people ball their eyes out. I have been told I smoke a little too much weed. I have also been told I have balls the size of the GM building for remixing a classic epic like SOYCD. What you have to know is this. I didn’t do it for myself. It was the first piece of music I ever put together and did it for the sole intention of helping my girlfriend get through one of the hardest things ever, the death of her father.  It’s no wonder that it took me almost a year and a half after his death to begin work on it. I knew that this song was everything to him. I also knew that my connection to Pink Floyd was very similar to hers and to her fathers. So once I got over being scared of what people were going to think, I dived head in. I also had to do it on the low because I wanted to surprise her, which I did earlier this year with different clips leading up to her listening to the whole thing and balling her eyes out too.
I’m not selling this, or trying to get the rights too. If PF approached me that would be different. I would rather just keep working on it and eventually let everyone download it. For now see what I have so far and take a 35 minute trip with me and Pink Floyd.  - Chris Smith aka Sherburt

Why Growth and Evolving Become More Than Ideas
I just want to be around as many people as possible who are about growth on every level. I also want to be around opportunities for the things I want to do with the rest of my life. Honestly I've never really thought about my life in this way. Even with all that weed and drugs and drinking and "experimenting" I never really thought about it until the last few years. I thought about how life could be with someone or how it would be without them. I never thought about how much I needed to evolve each day. Not once. Then I quit smoking cigarettes. Even almost 20 months without a smoke I still know I'm nowhere close to where I want to be. The funny thing is I never knew I wanted to be anything like the person I want to become. Maybe I was too cynical. I was always such a blunt asshole about things. It's ruined so many of my relationships because of it. I always thought people wanted honesty. Luckily the people I am around on a regular basis know in a millisecond if I'm acting differently.
I sure as shit know that the 18 year old version of myself is not who I am today. I'm thankful for that. 13 years ago I was in a horrible place in life. I tried all sorts of things to numb myself and forget about the world around me. Everything was falling apart for the first time. I was still trying to sort what the fuck I was going to do with my life out, and I had friends dropping like flies, relationships ending in what would become a very normal way of dropping someone from my life, and I was just about to discover all the drugs that took me on a whirlwind for a good 7 years.
I don't regret the things I have done. I don't condone them either. What I did with my life was my choice. I'm sitting at 31 trying to help people out who find themselves in the same situation. I certainly don't believe all drugs are bad. I know that some can easily ruin your life if you use them irresponsibly. And sure others can definitely kill you, but detoxing from alcohol can kill you too, so wrap that one around your head. The point is everyone choose their own path and if you're a person who had no decision on what you do with your own life, you can only blame yourself for letting others effect you in that way. Sure if it was completely against your own will than obviously this doesn't apply to you. There comes a point when a kid tells their parents to fuck off and leave them be. For me that moment came a little before most.
I don't know why but at some point in time I just started to really hate all authority. Every single type from Teacher to Cop to Security Guard to Bosses. It's taken me half my life to try and move from a lot of that type of thinking, or at the very least use what I have learned over the last 13 years to my advantage. I'm not here to stop you from using drugs to numb yourself. I'm here to let you know that plenty of us came before you, and plenty came before me who did the same exact thing. Most of us can kick shit. A lot of us have gone through these pathways of life that are just too much to describe in a single post. Or even a years worth. I was lucky I have had amazing friends and family around me my entire life. I know that's not how it is for everyone, but I think that's also what leads a lot of us to this music... It brings us together under the beat and we can read the people around us better because of it. I have friends that I met while I was completely messed up out of my mind in a dark room in Detroit. I have met others while talking sub genres while completely sober at 5am. So for me it's like anyone else's experience with it, the beginning can typically be the most fun ever, but it plateaus quickly and then all of a sudden 7 years are gone by. Now I can tell you all about these genres of music and artists and labels and events that all have impacted my growth without me really knowing it. I can tell you that even though I led myself into the dark under typical drugged up terms I have come out brighter and more intuned with the city I hold so close to my heart. I feel the need to keep going whatever it is has been going on here for 30+ years. I have gone from being in the corner wacked and stupid to behind the tables and controlling a room. I make music that people respond to and I'm still just a local basshead. I haven't had any huge gigs but they are starting to become more noteworthy to the cities ever changing music industry.
When I started making music I was 11. I tried guitar for a year but the whole time I was thinking about how the beats I was playing along too were made. I was already heels-over-head in love with punk music. I still to this day play in a Punk-Ska band and I doubt we will ever stop putting music together. That same emotion is what I always wanted outside of the band partnerships. I wanted that same feeling by myself. Where I controlled everything. Where it wwas all my input not a collaboration. So that's when I really started to give a shit about song writing outside of the known realms of girlfriends, drinking, smoking weed, being pissed at the government, you know typical punk stereotypes. I soon learned that those things are still the stuff I mold songs around. It's funny because no matter what, I'm still that weird awkward 13 year old trying to play Rancid and Less Than Jake on my tko set in the garage. This time I'm trying to emulate the likes of Nadastrom, Evol Intent, and others.
The point of all of this is that you can think you're changing or evolving and you might not like it, but sometimes changing is the best thing you can do for your own personal growth. I felt so leveled off for so long. I quit the drugs. Then lost a great job. But then went back to school. Got a degree in Humanities. Had a few horrible battles with women. And then I was just kinda thinking well I had to move back in with my parents at 28, after 6 years on my own. I had no idea what I was going to do. I was just trying to make music, continue school, and that was basically it. Then I re-connected with a bird who sent me for a whirlwind. If you know then you know. With her impact on my life I have gone through a huge mental overhaul of what I want to do, what makes me the happiest, how do I eliminate the fucked up things from my life, and most of all who do I really want to be as a person? It took me a while to figure some of those things out, and one of them was starting Hope and Bass. I always wanted a label, but I always wanted to do steady consistent human service work. I don't make shit at the moment, but I like to believe those who are already behind us understand what we're trying to do.  If you know deep inside(deep deep deep inside, deep deep down inside) that you need to change, then sacrifice all the other feelings and change. It's not easy. It's hard as fuck. I won't lie, I'm trying to do 95% of the changes still, I'm not high and mighty about this shit. I'm growing with you people, I want to grow as the label does. Helping other artists, helping fellow dance music enthusiasts, that's what I want to do. That's what makes me happy and that's what I'm gonna do as long as I can. What I really want to say is that you can do whatever you set your mind to, not to be corny but it's true. You know already life isn't fair, just don't be afraid to fail, then success will feel that much sweet. Just keep at it. Keep going.
Every single speck of success I have felt in my life whether it be monetary or personal, the feeling is worth the shitty feeling getting there. That's how much it's worth. Years of Bull-Shit can end up equaling an hour of your time on the other end of the spectrum. That alone should tell you it's worth it to strive for those types of emotions and reactions you get from doing the things you love. Maturing isn't selling out and either is acting like a 16 year old sometimes. The only thing that matters is that you're here to live another day, and chances are even if it's shitty, that means the next day will probably be a lot better in comparison. But hey what do I know I've been battling depression for most my life, I'm a typical broke "label-head", and I have no investors. But, it also means the only way to go is up. Think positively even when life fucking blowssss, it will seriously do wonders if you can maximize it's effects by letting go of all the fucks you still give.
I love you all. And I really am glad you can read this. As more time goes on we will become more defined as a label and as a collection of people willing to stand up for our fellow heads who are going through some shit. We want you here. - Chris aka Sherburt www.hopeandbass.com [email protected]

Do you know about the label I've started? It's called hopeandbass and we're brand new. We plan on releasing unlimited dance music to help combat suicide and raise awareness for mental health issues. As most musicians know, mental health is a huge part of most of our lives. So when the idea came to me to help give back to others through our tunes and sets and ideas, I immediately thought to myself "it's been right in front of me for over a decade, why didn't I think of this sooner?" I hope you will join us as we start really piecing this idea together.
GENERAL INFO ABOUT HNB
We are a record label specializing in underground dance music. With releases and promotion we advocate for many different causes. As a label our main interest is mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The artists who release with us have the option to donate their proceeds to charities and organizations we have chosen or for ones they prefer instead. It's no secret that musicians and fans of underground dance music are built from a different type of framework than others. It seems that the more creative and open people become, the more they become susceptable to social issues. With the music industry blueprint ever changing through independent artists, social media, and networking, artists are working 10x harder for 100x less the pay. With each release on Hope and Bass, the artist gets an equal portion, along with the label, and the charity of their choice. It makes more sense to do some good outside of making music that effects people.  http://www.facebook.com/hopeandbass  http://www.twitter.com/hopeandbass http://instagram.com/hope_and_bass http://www.hopeandbass.tumblr.com/
