Spending Halloween With Them- The Love And DeepSpace Men
parings in order: Xavier x Reader, Zayne x Reader, Rafayel x Reader, Sylus x Reader genre/ tags: fluff, slightly silly, might be ooc maybe a/n: hi everyone! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა happy halloween! are any of you all dressing up? :o what are you guys plans! lmk <3 i apologize if im late i know it might not even be halloween for some of you when i post this but i hope you still enjoy ! if you don't celebrate it, i hope you still have a happy day <3
⋆。‧˚ʚ♡ɞ˚‧。⋆
Tumblr media
Xavier:
Xavier didn’t celebrate or see the appeal of Halloween before until he saw on his phone of couples doing festive activities together. Whether it was you or him that suggested doing anything for this month, he wanted to spend these experiences with you this season and every single one in the future.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Costumes. He might accidentally misread your text and accidentally dress up as an actual peanut costume while you dress up as a jar of jelly.
Honey and Bear Costume. This was his idea because you’re his ‘honey’ so it was very fitting for him to dress up as a bear well because-
Prince and Princess Costume. He would definitely look good as a Prince but he’s not dressing up by himself without his princess. Unless you had a different costume in mind, he doesn’t mind wearing the prince costume by himself
He wouldn’t mind giving out candy or doing trick or treating with you but he most prefers cuddling with you while watching a spooky movie. Does not flinch when a scary scene comes up but he’ll make sure to pull up the blanket over you when you’re scared.
If you two were to go trick or treating he'll make sure to give you all your favorite sweets on your pile and will take the ones you don't want.
Tumblr media
Zayne:
Doctor Costume. Not just any doctor, a neurosurgeon doctor. He would explain to you that being a neurosurgeon is a costume because it’s different from his job and that he already had his costume set up. Of course he does. You would have to explain to him that he needs to find a different costume that’s not a doctor. A costume that doesn’t involve him similarly from his real job.
Vampire Costume. When he finally caves, which didn’t take that long, he took your suggestion on being a vampire. A vampire usually looks very sophisticated and elegant which was already fitting for him so all he needed was the cape and some fake fangs
Before you both started to give out candy, you both took a stroll around your neighborhood to appreciate the decorated neighborhood in the area.
Your shared home would be decorated for Halloween. Just right outside your door would be the pumpkins you both lovingly carved and selected together from the pumpkin patch. They all sit together with a candlelight flickering inside them to illuminate the intricate designs you both made.
It wasn’t even close to midnight and almost all of your fun size candy and chocolates are gone. Until you found the culprit in the kitchen caught red-handed as he was about to unwrap the next one in his hand. You guys might have to visit the dentist next week.
Tumblr media
Rafayel:
Rafayel didn't really understand why humans dress up and beg random people for candy on this day so he's never really done anything for it. But if you wanted to do something with him for Halloween, with no hesitation he try to do anything with you.
He’s either the type to dress up with the most intricate and well thought out costume that he had made throughout the year with you. It would either be dramatic and some high quality costume or he’s the type to dress up as something very specific. Like a random scenario specific to mess with you. “I’m you when you slipped in the shower.” or he’ll dress up as a silly looking fish and say that it’s you.
He would have SO many ideas of what costumes you both could do or what would look good on you that he ended up making all the costumes in the end. I think he would love dressing you up as Lemurian the most, thinking you would look embody the beauty. So the whole day was just a fun little dress up day for you both and many many photos of you saved with your beautiful or silly costumes.
He would also definitely uses his artistic skills to carve out the most beautiful pumpkins with you.
Tumblr media
Sylus:
Vampire Costume. Do I need to say more? Kids would ask, if they weren't scared of him, if his crimson eyes were real and he would definitely act the part and play vampire.
Red Riding Hood and The "Big Bad" Wolf costume. He loves the color red on you and the way the corset of your dress compliments your figure.
Devil and Angel Costume. A little basic costume if you two didn't have enough time to prepare a matching one. Although he does love seeing the color red on you, you are his angel and his dove so he doesn't mind being the devil.
You two would enjoy the evening by the cozy fireplace as you wait for the trick-or-treaters to knock on your door. He would pour you a cup of your favorite drink before he pours himself a glass of wine.
He’s definitely the house known for handing out the biggest candy bars and secretly loves it when he hears how children think his home is the coolest because of the mountains of candy he’s given them.
He does give out a little too much but he wants to make sure every kid leaves with an overflowing bag. Honestly he probably bought a warehouse full of candy so you don’t run out for the night.

okay okay blurb concept: what do you think ab Oscar on a blind date? maybe Lando set him up with someone?
you ask and you shall receive🫡i hope i did it justice!!🫶🏽
.
This was a stupid idea.
In fact, it was an incredibly stupid idea for a multitude of reasons, but three in particular played in Oscar’s head on a loop as he drummed his fingers against the table, mocked by the empty seat across from him.
The first reason was the fact Lando fucking Norris was the mastermind behind the whole thing. In all honesty, he didn’t remember the last time the Brit had a genuinely good idea outside of racing and car improvements. He wasn’t even sure how Lando made him agree, though he wondered if he had hit his head off something and forgot about the whole thing.
The second reason was that it had been a dreadfully long time since Oscar had been on a date. It was embarrassing enough that he couldn’t even remember his last date, let alone remember whether it hadn’t ended badly or not. But it definitely didn’t help that this was the first one in possibly years, and he hadn’t even played a part in planning the damn thing if the fancy restaurant Lando chose said much.
The third reason was that despite Oscar almost begging his teammate, the boy had refused to tell him who he was actually attending a date with. It’s all a part of the fun, mate, Lando had said to him with a big smile. Never heard of a blind date? It’s romantic and shit.
But nothing about the whole set up felt romantic in the slightest.
Lando had tried to reassure the boy on his drive to the restaurant. He had wanted to arrive early, to settle himself and feel like he had some control on the situation even if he really didn’t. Lando had been insistent that the girl he set him up with was just his type, but it was a little hard to believe that when Lando had also been the reason Oscar had a stripper show up on his door to celebrate the end of the last season.
A gift Lando was also insistent that he would have enjoyed.
So now, Oscar was sat by himself in a fancy restaurant, almost twenty minutes early and looking absolutely pathetic as he sipped his glass of water and resisted the urge to scoff down the complementary breadsticks lying in the basket in front of him. He had given the waiter so many strained smiles, he was worried they were going to kick him out soon if he didn’t order something that actually cost money.
His eyes shifted down to glance at his phone, his fingers itching to reach out and dial Lando’s number again. The sickening feeling in his stomach was only growing, the anxiety bubbling inside him the longer he waited and he was honestly tempted to scrap the whole thing and lock himself in his apartment for a few days before he could face the real world again.
And yet, before he could even unlock his phone, someone paused by his table and a voice called out his name.
“Oscar?”
His head snapped up, any semblance of a reply quickly leaving his mind as he openly gaped at you. You were gorgeous, beyond anything he could even imagine. Not that he cared much for looks or thought Lando would set him up with someone horrendously ugly but…fuck, he wasn’t expecting someone as pretty as you.
And suddenly he was nervous for a million other reasons.
“Sorry, are you not Oscar?” You continued after a few moments of silence, a look of embarrassment crossing over your face as you moved to take a step away from the table. “I’m so sorry, I could have swore you looked like the photo my friend sent me—”
“No!” He blurted out as he quickly stood up, his chair screeching against the floor as he did. “No, I mean, yes.” Your confusion only grew. “I mean…I’m Oscar.”
“Oh,” you said and something in your face brightened as you extended your hand to the boy, offering your name in response. “It’s lovely to meet you, Oscar.”
“Yeah, you too,” he supplied lamely, frowning a little at himself before he cleared his throat. “Uh, can I get you something? I mean, not me. I meant like I could call the waiter for you and you could order. But I should probably let you look at the menu first so—” And fuck, he didn’t think he had ever spoken this much in one go ever.
But your giggle cut him off as you smiled at him. You glanced around, noting the high-end restaurant that you knew Lando probably got a kick out of picking before your gaze landed on the Aussie once again.
“Can I be honest?”
Oscar nodded his head vigorously.
“This doesn’t look like your kind of scene,” you said to him, and Oscar could feel his cheeks burning.
He shrugged. “I really don’t mind—”
“It’s not mine either,” you added, something almost mischievous shining in your eyes. “But there is a really cool arcade about fifteen minutes away that do really good burgers if you’re interested.”
And it wasn’t Oscar’s fault that he couldn’t bite back the massive grin on his face. “That sounds perfect.”
And maybe—just fucking maybe—one of Lando’s plans had worked out far better than anyone ever assumed.

Why they lost their minds and fought the wars (CS55)
Carlos Sainz x f!reader
Author's note: Happy valentines day pookies! I hope you know you are all very loved and appreciated. Have a beautiful day with your loved ones. This is a special fic, given that I haven't written about Carlos in months and need to show my bf some love. Enjoy :)
Summary: Carlos recently broke up and as his best friend you are trying to cheer him up. Especially now that Valentines Day is coming up. Everything is in order for a special "galentines" day, although what happens when Carlos surprises you out of nowhere?
Warnings: immense dose of cuteness, maybe false spanish translations. (I mention Rebecca in this fic, just to clear things out, I do like her, don’t come for me, everything is for the sake of the plot)
I couldn't bare looking at Carlos sulking on the couch, scrolling through his phone for hours and barely eating anything. I have tried everything in my power to get him moving but no matter what, he ends up either on his bed or the couch. It was a surprise that he managed to get up and be part of the SF-24 car launch a day ago.
Even though he wore his best fake smile, I could sense that he wasn't in the position to show any hint of feelings. Whether this was sadness or anger or happiness. I was trying to shower him with all my love. Constant hugs, words of affection.
The only thing that seemed to put even a small smile on his face was when I was running my fingers through his hair, scratching and massaging his scalp so he would release the tension. His soft moans were a confirmation that I was indeed helping him and the anger was fading away.
"If it eases your mind, I will always be here waiting for you and eventually we get married to each other. I have seen you at your worst do not worry." I have been saying that since we were kids. I would indeed wait for him as long as necessary.
Although Carlos didn't need to know that I was in love with him.
"Cariño, I can't hold you back from living your life, just because I am incapable of having a lasting relationship." He softly replied. Carlos and I may have been life long best friends since childhood, but he doesn’t know that everything I am looking for into a boy, is exactly what he has.
Since kids I used to say to him that eventually one day we would get married and I would follow him around the world while he would be racing in Formula One as a world champion.
“Carlos, it’s been three weeks since Rebecca broke up with you. She’s out there living her life. Don’t you think that it’s a sign for you to do the same. You’re always full of energy and up for any activity. What happened to the Spaniard I know and love?” I sat next to him and his eyes instantly locked with mine.
“I lost my seat at the beginning of the month. My girlfriend a few days before that. Why is everything so wrong in my life? This season started off so badly.” Every time Carlos mentions the Ferrari issue, my heart breaks even more than the first time I found out.
I was shocked when I tuned into Sky Sports and instead of seeing a massive football transfer at the end of the January Transfer Window, I saw the caption with big bold letter ‘Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari in 2025’
“I will do anything in my power for the rest of the year to be the best one for you, I promise. I’m so sorry things have started off on the wrong foot.” My voice was breaking, trying not to tear up, as Carlos’s eyes were slowly closing.
“The world needs more people like you amór. Honestly, even at my lowest moments, you always look out for me. I don’t know how I would’ve survived Formula One without you.” And then he drifted into sleep, as I got up and placed him in a more comfortable position.
It was still very early in the morning and the thought of Carlos not celebrating today was causing an ache in my heart. Before falling in love with him, he was the boy that always made me smile no matter what. Even if this meant he fought with childhood friends that were picking on me.
I grabbed my keys, wallet and phone and headed off to the nearest mini market in Italy close to Carlos’s soon to be former home. Even though I didn’t know the region very well, I found one twenty minutes away and when I made my way there, the first thing I saw was many boyfriends holding the same baskets the market was offering so they could stuff it with candies for their girlfriends.
I took a basket myself and started strolling around the market, throwing in all of Carlos’s favorite sweets. After paying for the basket, thankfully there was a flower shop near and I instantly made my way in. The original plan was to buy Carlos some tulips, given that he had fallen in love with them after the celebration the Dutch fans had organized during the Grand Prix in The Netherlands.
My attention was caught by a machine inside the store that allowed you to create your own stuffed animal and put a shirt on it with a phrase or logo. In most of the stands with the examples of bears you could make there were some Ferrari inspired ones, which also included Carlos’s number on a shirt with the 55 and his nickname ‘smooth operator’
It was good to see how some Italians still supported him, despite knowing that a seven times world champion would be joining the team. I walked towards the machine and was immediately greeted by a lovely old man who was more than willing to help me.
I looked at the options of animals I had. When I saw the dog options and one of them was similar to Pinõn, I picked it up and handed it to him. Then it was time for the t-shirt, to which I asked to have written down the phrase ‘world champion or not, i am your no1 fan’
“Oh is your boyfriend an athlete?” The old man asked me in a heavy Italian accent with a smirk on his face.
I blushed and giggled at his manners “Not my boyfriend but yes, he is. May know him as well.”
“He’s Italian? Footballer?” He was getting excited by the thought of being an Italian athlete.
“Is a member of an Italian team but will soon leave. A champion is replacing him.” Every time those words came out of my mouth, my heart would break even more.
“It’s the young Spaniard, Carlos Sainz? Oh it’s a pity he’s not going to continue with Ferrari. I really liked him.” I nodded my head in agreement. At least he had a final year in Ferrari to prove his worth and what he is able to achieve as a driver.
As the stuffed animal was getting ready in the machine, the old man was telling me stories of how he had always been a fan of Ferrari ever since Niki Lauda first joined the team. He was a little kid when the horrifying accident took place.
“Tell Carlos to never give up. He is capable of so many great things. It was lovely meeting you.” He shook my hand after I payed for the animal which at first he wanted to give me for free but I couldn’t leave without paying.
“I will. Great getting to know you too sir. Have a beautiful day.” When I left the store, I took my phone out which I accidentally had left on silent and was flooded with calls from Carlos, although when I looked at it, there was an incoming one from Charles.
“Where on earth are you?” He said in a worried manner.
“I am out shopping. Why? Is something wrong? Are you okay, Charles?”
“Carlos is getting sick worried. You weren’t picking up your phone and all your stuff were gone. Please go back home, he’s going insane.”
“It was my fault. I had my phone accidentally on silent mode. I am heading back right now. Oh dear. Thank you for telling me Charles.”
“Oh and, y/n, how is he doing? Is he okay? Do you guys need me for anything?” It was sweet that Charles was worried about Carlos. I mean, after all, this was Carlos’s fourth year in Ferrari and he was Charles’s most long lasting teammate, their bond was strong.
“All in order Charlie boy. Go celebrate with Alex. Give her my best. Happy Valentine’s!” I said happily before I received an equally enthusiastic wish from Charles and hung up.
I drove through the streets of Maranello as fast as I could, so Carlos would stop getting worried. Once I was outside the house, I parked quickly and got all the stuff I bought him and knocked on the door.
Carlos opened and instantly a wave of relief washed through him, taking away the worried look that was plastered all over his face.
“¿Dónde demonios estabas? Me asusté tanto que no tienes ni idea.” (Where the hell were you? I got so scared you have no idea.)
“Happy Valentine’s Carlito!” Was all I said, showing him the gifts I bought with a massive smile drawn on my lips.
I made my way inside as Carlos wouldn’t remove his eyes off of the present with a shocked expression. He took the basket first, looking through at all his favorites’s like a little kid.
“Querida, esto no era necesario. Eres la más dulce.” (My dear, this was not necessary. You are the absolute sweetest.)
He wrapped his arms around my body and lifted me into the air, spinning me around like he used to do back when we were children. I wrapped my legs around his torso, squeezing him tightly, wanting to share all the love I have for him. I loved Carlos so much and even though he may not love me the way I do, I am more than thankful to have him in my life.
“What is this? Oh a little Pinõn. It’s so adorable, y/n.” He squeezed the small plushie and when he saw at what the shirt was saying, Carlos started tearing up but quickly removed the tears drops that had fallen to his cheeks.
“You’re so special to me, Carlos. I know this season is going to be a difficult one, although no matter what, I will always be by your side. Whether you finish 1st or 20th, my support will be unconditional. I promise you that." My voice is muffled against his chest and head that is leaning onto mine. Carlos's embrace is the safest place one can find themselves in.
"All my life I had been trying to understand what went wrong with all my relationships and you know what?"
"What?"
"I was looking for you in them. When all I simply needed was to be with you. I could have always been happy."
Carlos's words made my head raise and look up to him. There wasn't just a smile plastered on his lips, but on his eyes as well. The brown had switched into a beautiful hazel and his lips were a brighter shade of red than any Ferrari had ever met.
My heart was beating so fast and let me sound cheesy here, but it would easily burst out of my chest from happiness. My best friend loved me. More than what I was expecting. If someone told me to measure my love for Carlos, I would have to travel the world infinite times.
"I am madly in love with you, y/n and I hope you know, I am not planning on taking it back. I love you as a soulmate as a best friend and as the most incredible woman on the planet. The words in the Spanish and English vocabulary are not enough to describe the way I feel about you."

𝑀𝒾𝓈𝓉𝓁𝑒𝓉𝑜𝑒 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒪𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝒜𝒸𝓉𝒾𝓋𝒾𝓉𝒾𝑒𝓈
(Alec McDowell x Female Reader)
Tumblr media
𝚛𝚎𝚚𝚞𝚎𝚜𝚝: PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE MISTLETOE WITH ALEC 🙏 I NEED THAT MAN LIKE I NEED AIR 😭 anyway love u <3 (Anonymous)
𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚛𝚜 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚎: Thank you so much for your request, Love, and I hope that you enjoy! 💖
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Alec isn’t really into the holiday season but when Max forces him to go to a party, he starts to get curious about certain traditions. Little does he know that you’d be willing to show him.
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: This is not accurate to the show, sorry to those who know if Alec has already celebrated Christmas or not. This is in essence Alec’s first real Christmas without having to train or be on any sort of mission.
Tumblr media
It was a cold, honestly ugly day in Seattle. There were piles of muddy snow where people would walk, and people would complain about freezing their asses off. Meanwhile some other people would talk about the upcoming holidays and how they should enjoy the time while it was there. Even when that may have been easier said than done for some people.
Alec never would have thought in a million years that he would be standing right here. He knew of what Christmas was because of how Max had described it to him sometime after Manticore blew up. But he never thought he’d actually get around to celebrating it. Not really.
Most of his Christmas’s growing up on the military base were spent either training or working on some kind of undercover mission. He’s never experienced the whole decorating a Christmas tree thing or making gingerbread houses, or anything like that. And since he escaped, he wasn’t necessarily sure that he really wanted to be a part of the holiday activities. He didn’t really see the point.
At the moment Alec had just arrived to the post office to clock in for the day when Max caught him. He lifted a brow as he looked down at the fellow mutant soldier and smirked.
“Isn’t it a little early for you to be seeking me out?” He asked and Max nudged his arm and rolled his eyes.
“It’s way too early for you to be a smart-ass.” Max said, “Anyway, I only came over because Original Cindy and I are going to have a Christmas party at our place and she thought that it would be a good idea for you to swing by.”
“You mean you aren’t going to your little boyfriend’s place for the night? That’s a first.” Alec smirked.
“Logan is coming by too.”
“Right, and you think I’d actually go to a party like that?”
“Why not? You seem to be the type to go to any other party. And it’s not like there won’t be any girls there for you to flirt with.” Max reminded.
“How dare you?” Alec feigned offense by placing a hand over his heart, “You really think I’d only go to a party for girls?”
“You would if you thought the girls were hot. And I know for a fact Y/N is gonna be there.”
Alec’s brows raised up for a moment, “So?”
“Oh don’t act like I don’t know what I’m talking about. I see the way you look at her and the fact that you have talked to literally all of the girls here except her kind of speaks volumes.”
“No one ever said those statistics always have a positive outcome.” Alec commented. “Besides, I don’t care who’s going. And I just haven’t gotten around to talking to her yet. I’ve been talking to some others first, is that so wrong””
“Uh, little on the defensive aren’t we? Okay well, you’re going whether you like it or not. It’s not like you have any other plans other than hitting the bar or the strip club tomorrow night, right?”
Alec rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a little called out since that would likely be the only plans he would have. “Tomorrow night? Yeah, I guess it won’t kill me to make an appearance.”
“Good. Now I’ll see you around.” Alec watched Max leave.
Honestly, he hated how much Max was starting to be like a sister - in the sense that she was starting to know him a little too well and she’s starting to read him like a book. But he supposed it wasn’t totally a bad thing. She did tend to have his back the more they got to know each other. He was thankful for that kind of sibling bond - even if she was a pain in his ass most of the time.
While Alec was heading to his locker, he caught a glimpse of you taking some packages and put them in the basket of your bicycle.
So what if he hadn’t talked to you yet? He’s seen the way that you were with people. You were so optimistic about so many things even if this world was shit. You have a certain charisma that pulls everyone towards you and they like you almost instantly, whether you care to talk to them or not. You were just approachable, likable.
Not to mention beautiful.
Sure, Alec has talked to several women and yes a lot of them were attractive. But none of them were quite like you. You had the most beautifully colored eyes he had ever seen, and the way your hair frames your face so perfectly. Everything about you was stunning, but he knew that you had to have some kind of boyfriend already.
Just because Alec talked to a lot of women, that didn’t mean he was the kind of guy to go after someone else’s girl.
In the midst of his thoughts, he didn’t realize he had been staring at you. Not until he saw you wave and he blinked before he looked away, slamming the locker door shut and he went to go deliver packages.
You were a little stunned when Alec abruptly slammed his locker door and walked off. That was a little unlike him.
Then again, you weren’t necessarily sure what he was really like at all. You barely knew a thing about him, much to your dismay.
“You good?” Max asked and you glanced over just to see her and Cindy standing together.
“Yeah, just wondering if Alec’s alright. He was staring at me, I don’t think he realized that he was. But when I waved at him, he slammed his locker and went to start his route.” You explained and Max chuckled.
“Oh don’t worry about him. I’m sure he’s fine. He has his random moments, I swear he’s not normally that awkward. Maybe he had something on his mind.”
You shrugged it off, but you still couldn’t help but wonder what he was staring at you like that for. It was a little creepy if he just did it for no reason. But you turned back to your basket to make sure your packages were secured while Max spoke again.
“You’re still coming to the party tomorrow night right?” She asked.
“Yeah! It wouldn’t be a party without you there.” Original Cindy smiled and you grinned. How could you let your two best friends down.
“I didn’t exactly have anything else planned now did I?” You replied, “I wouldn’t miss it.”
“Great! Now don’t forget that it’s at six tomorrow.” Max reminded and you nodded.
“I won’t forget, and I’ll see you there.”
As Max and Original Cindy walked off, you grinned at them. You never thought that you’d have this sort of camaraderie when you started working here at the Jam Pony. Max and Cindy took you. Under their wing practically from the first day you started working here three years ago. You had gotten to the Jam Pony two years before Alec did.
Alec..
He was certainly an interesting character you had to admit. Attractive, sarcastic as hell, but he never failed to make you smile even if he didn’t intend to. He just had that kind of personality you supposed.
You wondered if he would be at the Christmas party, or if he’d find different ways to spend his time.
Honestly you hoped that he would decide to come to the party. Maybe that would be the chance you would have to actually talk to him and maybe get to know him a little outside of work.
After all, everyone could use a friend.
Tumblr media
You were enjoying yourself at Max and Original Cindy’s party. There was some faint Christmas music in the background but it was mostly overshadowed by people talking amongst themselves and having a fun time.
You couldn’t help but notice how Max seemed to really let down her walls around Logan. He seems really sweet to her and you hoped the best for the two of them.
In a way you envy them. You’ve never found someone that made you feel the way Logan made Max feel. You simply figured that it wasn’t your time yet.
Anyways, you were leaning against the counter top in Max and Cindy’s kitchen while Cindy and Sketchy were talking. You heard about half of what they were saying, yet the other half just went straight though your other ear.
“Hello? Earth to Y/N?” Sketchy waved the palm of his hand in front of your face, causing you to look up at him and then at Original Cindy.
“Girl, whatcha thinkin’ so deeply about?” Cindy asked you and you shrugged.
“Nothing, just watching people enjoy the party.” You insisted.
“Oh come on, now’s not the time for people watching! Here, let me pour you a drink.” Sketchy said and he grabbed one of the solo cups from the counter to make some kind of concoction.
“She’s got it bad for him, doesn’t she?” Cindy asked as she looked at Max and Logan.
“I’d say so. They have their cute moments. Although Max should lighten up a little more and let something come out of whatever it is they’ve got going on.” You let out a sigh.
“Yeah well I give it another hundred years before those two become official.” You heard a different voice chime in. When you looked over, you and Original Cindy saw that Alec made an appearance after all.
“About time you showed up.” Cindy said with a smirk, putting a hand on her hip, “What took you so long?”
“Better late than never, right? Besides, I had to make a pit-stop.” Alec said as he held up a couple of six packs.
“Ah great! We’ve got some extras.” Sketchy said when he came back with your drink and he handed it to you, then he took the six packs from Alec to put them somewhere with the other drinks.
“I didn’t think you would show up.” You said with a chuckle and Alec looked down at you since he was significantly taller than you were.
“I mean I thought about it. But you know Max. She can be awfully…”
“Persuasive?” You completed and Alec chuckled before he nodded.
“So, where’s your boyfriend? Didn’t he come to this thing?” He asked you, and you were confused.
“Was I supposed to have a boyfriend to come to this thing?” You asked with a chuckle, then you realized he looked confused for a moment, “Who told you I had a boyfriend?”
“No one, just an assumption.” Alec said with a shrug then he looked over at Sketchy, “Here, let me help you with those so you don’t spill anything.”
About an hour went by and it was starting to get a little late. Some people left a little early because they had earlier shifts, but the ones who had later shifts or had days off tomorrow stayed behind. Alec happened to be the ones that stayed behind.
Although something caught his eye.
There was a green plant with red ribbon pinned on the doorway separating the kitchen and the living room of this place. Anytime two people lingered beneath it and they were either caught or they noticed it for themselves, they would kiss.
This happened a couple of times and it was starting to puzzle him, did people kiss under the mistletoe on purpose?
“You’re doing that thing again.” Alec heard your voice.
When he looked at you, you were holding two styrofoam cups full of cider and you offered him one.
“What thing?” He asked you before thanking you for the cider. It felt warm in his hands and he took a sip of it.
“That staring thing. I wouldn’t make it too much of a habit. Some people might get creeped out by that.” He heard you chuckle and he figured you meant about the previous day.
“Sorry about that. I guess I should break that habit.” He chuckled and you smiled at him.
“No worries. Just wondering if you’re alright.”
That was… oddly sweet of you. Then again, he knew that it was in your nature from what he had observed about you, “I’m alright. Just a little confused by the amount of make outs that have taken place under that doorway.”
He watched you glanced over to the corridor and he heard you chuckle before you looked up at him, “Do you not know what happens under the mistletoe around this time of year?”
Alec shook his head and he saw a look on your face, maybe shock? “I’ve been told I live under a rock.” He explained.
“Ah… well typically when a couple stands beneath mistletoe, they kiss. It’s one of those Christmas tradition things.” You replied and Alec lifted a brow a little.
“How did you not know that?” Alec heard the curiosity in your voice and he let out a nervous laugh before he rubbed the back of his neck, covering up the barcode.
How was he supposed to say that where he came from, he was a soldier and Christmas traditions were the last thing the soldiers of Manticore were concerned with, “Where I come from, we didn’t really celebrate Christmas or indulge into those traditions. So I’m a little bit of a late bloomer with knowing what some of the traditions are.”
You gazed up at him as he talked to you. This was probably the longest conversation you’ve ever had with Alec, and you honestly hoped that it wouldn’t end anytime soon.
“I see.. well there’s nothing wrong with that. I mean I know of some traditions but I don’t really indulge in them either. I’ve actually never made a gingerbread house, but that’s a big thing that some people do around Christmas time.” You confessed.
“I’ve heard of gingerbread houses. Sounds like it could be… interesting I guess? Unfortunately I’m not much of a baker, not exactly an architect either.” Alecs laughter made your heart swell but you grinned at his response.
“Guys! Come on, you’re gonna miss watching the Grinch with us!” Sketchy called to you and Alec.
“Well, you heard him, Alec! Let’s go.” You smiled and you took his free hand before the two of you ended up sitting together on the floor to watch the movie together. It was the version of the Grinch with Jim Carrey and it happened to be one of your favorite Christmas movies.
“Have you ever seen this before?” You asked Alec and he shook his head before you grinned. You supposed he would have quite a few firsts the more he hung out with Max’s group.
You continued to watch the movie yet you couldn’t help but to wonder what else Alec had missed out on if he’s never heard of the mistletoe thing, never made a gingerbread house, or even seen the grinch. Then you wondered what exactly he had done.
Meanwhile Alec watched the movie for the first time and he could see why you liked it. It was actually pretty funny. Although it was kinda pathetic that an entire town bullied a kid into self isolation. What a shitty thing to do.
When he glanced down at you, he noticed that you seemed to be off in your own little world while you enjoyed the movie. He noticed that this is probably the happiest he’s seen you, surrounded by Christmas related activities and parties. Even at work you seemed to smile more.
Honestly, seeing you like this was uplifting in a way. It gave him a break from the shitty job he had or the memories of those past Christmases with missions he had to deal with. He wouldn’t mind if you taught him some traditions or even did some of those traditions with him.
He wondered what experiences you’ve had with the holiday growing up, it kind of made him wonder what he and so many other transgenics like him missed out on because of their upbringing.
On the flipped side, Max had been in the very same shoes that he was in, and now here she was hosting Christmas parties and having fun. He was excited to be out of that military base so he could experience all of these things too, really experience them without worrying about blowing some kind of cover he was under.
While he turned his attention back to the movie on the screen, he placed his arm around your shoulder, deciding to make a move now that he knew you didn’t have a boyfriend - a fact that still shocked him - and he could feel you relax beneath his touch. He grinned to himself the moment he felt your head on his shoulder.
Unfortunately, every year you felt like when you watch the Grinch, or any Christmas movie for that matter, the film got shorter and shorter. It felt like only thirty minutes had gone by and it was over. When the movie ended, some people said their goodbyes and decided to call it a night.
You decided to stay behind with Sketchy, Logan and Alec to help clean up the place so it wasn’t too much of a disaster to deal with the following morning.
You were in the kitchen washing some of the dishes so Max or Original Cindy wouldn’t worry about them, and while you were doing that Alec happened to come in with a trash bag full of cups and cans and other trash guests left behind.
“Can I ask you something?” You finally spoke.
“Yeah, shoot.”
“How come you’ve never talked to me before tonight?” You asked curiously. That question had been in your mind for a while, even before that night had even started, and you couldn’t help but wonder about it.
“Honestly, I dunno. You seem friendly and I know I’ve had different opportunities to talk. But I guess at work all we really get is a quick ‘hello’ before we go on our routes. Never had the time to have more of a conversation than just that.” He said.
And you supposed that could be a fair argument. It was rare that the two of you have had the same shifts. And when you saw each other any other time, it was like he said: if you two were to actually talk, you didn’t really get a word in before it was time to go on the routes. Normal was a little relentless with how he runs things at work.
“Yeah, I guess with Normal being up everyone’s ass it kind of makes it hard to have longer talks.” You said, but it still felt like he was holding the truth back - whatever his truth was. You wouldn’t push him though. Honestly you weren’t sure if you wanted to know what his truth was.
“Now it’s my turn to ask you a question.” You heard Alec say as you finished up with the dishes.
“Okay?”
“How come you didn’t have anyone to bring you to this thing?” He asked, causing you to lift a brow.
“Anyone meaning a boyfriend sort of anyone?” You laughed and he shrugged as he tied a knot in the trash bag so it could be taken out.
“Well, it could be any mixture of things I suppose. Maybe it could be because I haven’t really been talking to guys at work and caught their interest yet. Maybe it’s because a the one person I would have an interest in hasn’t asked me out yet. Maybe it’s just because I don’t quite get out much and my life is mostly between work and home.” You shrugged.
“A mixture of those, huh?” Alec chuckled.
“And since you brought that up, how come you didn’t have a girlfriend to come along with you? I mean you’re bound to be someone’s type.” You said with a teasing tone and a smirk, causing Alec to chuckle a little.
“Well, maybe I have the same predicament.” Alec said.
“Yeah right! That’s so not what I’ve heard. You have no problems talking to other girls, and how come you didn’t have a little arm candy?” You dried off your hands with one of the kitchen towels.
“Honestly? Felt like coming by myself tonight. Yeah I talk to different people but obviously that’s empty flirting and I can do that anywhere I want to. Just didn’t feel like it this time around I guess.” He replied and went to the sink, washing his hands to get whatever gunk was on the trash bag off his hands.
You hummed a little at the explanation, leaning your back against a random wall before you handed him the towel to dry off his hands and he thanked you for it.
“I’m glad you came, even if Max may have had to persuade you to come.” You admitted and he looked at you once more.
“It was actually pretty fun. I didn’t think she knew how to throw a party that was fun like this.” He commented and you rolled your eyes.
“You’d be surprised,” You grinned, “You two really are like siblings, huh?” Then he laughed.
“Sort of.” He said but then he noticed something about where you were standing.
“Well, we’ve established that couples kiss under a mistletoe, but you didn’t explain when a one person is beneath.” Alec commented and he watched you look up above you just to see the plant above your head. Then he saw the way your cheeks seemed to flush in color.
“Well… you’re a smart guy. I’m sure you can figure it out without needing someone to explain it.” He heard you say and he smiled a little before he tossed the hand towel onto the counter next to the dishes before he carefully walked towards you.
“Well, I can’t keep a damsel like you waiting alone, now can I?” He said as he carefully placed a hand on you hip. You could tell that he was being cautious and trying to give you the opportunity to push him away if this wasn’t what you wanted.
A sweet gesture, really, but how dumb could he be to think you didn’t want this? And how dumb could you be to push him away?
“I suppose it wouldn’t be that heroic of you to keep one waiting beneath mistletoe.” You chuckled and one of your hands found a spot on his shoulder.
Then, he carefully leaned down and placed a soft and quick kiss on the corner of your mouth, as if he were trying to be a tease about it. You weren’t surprised that he would be a bit of a tease.
When you moved your hand from his shoulder to the back of his neck, however, he looked down at you for a moment before he smirked slightly. Then he leaned down and kissed your lips and lingered this time.
You knew that this wasn’t anticipated, and honestly you didn’t think you would be standing beneath mistletoe and kissing a man you had barely spoken to, but Alec took your breath away with his kiss. This kiss was different than you had expected from him; surprisingly sweet and gentle and he handled you with care.
His lips were a little chapped but they were warm and soft nonetheless. It took you by surprise when you felt his other hand cup your face but the moment that he did it felt like it was just the two of you. You had honestly forgotten that you weren’t even in your own home.
Then, the kiss ended too soon for your liking but you knew you couldn’t stay there forever, even though you would have loved to stay like that with Alec.
“Wow…”You whispered breathlessly and Alec grinned, noticing your cheeks were redder than before.
“It’s about damned time you two did something!” Original Cindy’s voice broke through the atmosphere between you and Alec.
You and Alec both glanced over and noticed that you had a little audience, consisting of Cindy, Max, Alex and Sketchy.
“How long were you guys standing there watching?” You asked with a chuckle.
“Long enough to know that if something doesn’t happen between you two after tonight, I’ll be sorely disappointed.” Cindy said.
“Same here. Alec, you had better take care of my girl, Y/N, otherwise I’ll be kicking your ass straight to the moon.” Max said with a playful smirk as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Wait, you two have been waiting for something like this to happen?” You laughed.
“Waiting? More like manifesting. Max has told me about you two and what she’s hoped to happen.” Logan said with a little chuckle as he adjusted his glasses.
“Awe, so you do think of me outside of work.” Alec teased and Max rolled her eyes and shook her head, smirking.
“Yeah, whatever. Now would you guys get out of here? Cindy and I will finish up with the cleaning.” Max said.
“Personally, I’m wiped. I’ll see y’all around. Thanks for the party, guys. That was great.” Sketchy said with a smile and he held up a peace sign before he walked out of the door.
“I’ll stay and help you finish up.” Logan insisted, but that wasn’t too much of a surprise there.
Then Alec looked down at you for a moment, “You want me to walk you home?”
You smiled up at him, “I’d like that. Maybe on the way we can talk about more of those traditions. I’ll even look into getting some gingerbread houses or something.”
“Sounds like a plan, Sweetheart.” Alec said and he held your hand before the two of you walked out of the apartment.
Never in a million years did Alec think he would be in a place where he would be kissing a girl under mistletoe, or even talk about something like building gingerbread houses. But he knew that this year would be different and he couldn’t be more excited to what this season held for him now that you were there.

A sense of déjà vu washed over you as you laid a tartan blanket in front of your crackling fireplace.
It was that time of year again, where colourful festive lights were strung throughout your neighbourhood and flurries of snow dusted the town, the combination of which produced an intangible magical quality, one you wished you could forever encapsulate and preserve in a snow glow.
The festive season was finally upon you.
Despite the chilly temperatures, most people’s spirits were warmer than ever, including yours. This time of joyful celebration also happened to coincide with the one time of year your dad’s best friend, the beefy and dangerously handsome Ari Levinson, returned home from his almost year long stint working overseas.
And to ensure that he wouldn’t be spending the holidays by himself and celebrating Hanukkah alone, your friendly father invited Ari to spend the festive season with your family.
The first time you slept together had been accidental - well, if you can call finally giving in to the massive crush you had developed on the burly framed, sex god, who never failed to affectionately refer to you as ‘Toffee’ because the chewy confection had been stuck in your teeth the first time you met, an accident.
But once you kissed him, allowed his large, assertive hands to roam over your every curve, and let his tongue taste every drop of your arousal for him, you knew you were in trouble.
You swore you’d never cross that line and act on such feelings, but when said sex god, with eyes as blue and inviting as a warm summer sky, looked at you like a ten course meal he wanted to devour, well, all logical thinking and restraint flew out the window, along with your panties.
The entire following year, you wondered if your dalliance was fated to be one glorious night. Whether Ari considered it a moment of weakness on his behalf and if he regretted what the two of you did, or if he was as desperate for it to happen again as you were.
The following holiday period, your questions were answered almost immediately.
The first time you two were alone again, all it took was one quizzical glance and you knew he too was thinking back to the night a year ago.
Perhaps it should have concerned you just how easily you gave yourself up to him, but you were honestly so desperate for him to have his way with you, to utterly ruin you again, that the desire between your legs overruled any self-control your brain tried to exert.
From your experience, none of the men your age knew anything about how to satisfy a woman, but there was no doubt with Ari, by your third orgasm, when you were floating on a cloud of pure bliss, you were convinced your bodies were made for each other.
This particular year he had a whole two weeks at home before departing again, and you made use of all fourteen euphoric days.
“Fuck, Toffee, so wet and messy, just for me - your pretty pussy gonna cum on these fat fucking fingers again? You gonna make a mess all over daddy?” His low growling voice was already such a turn on, but when he talked to you like that, you couldn’t stop yourself from cumming right then and there.
“That’s it, pretty girl, doing such a good job for me. Look how beautiful you are bouncing on my cock.” His praise spurred you on, lifting yourself up and sinking down on him again so he filled you completely, but when he reached to where your bodies connected, strumming on your clit, the coil in your stomach tightened as he brought you closer to your orgasm. “Wanna feel you cum around me baby, can you do that for me?”
“Still can’t get enough of me, can you Toffee?” He spoke into your ear as he pinned your hands above your head, fingers interlocked with yours, his weight pinning you to your bed, hips rolling into your own filling the room with salacious sounds of skin slapping skin. “You’ll never get enough, will you? I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of you either.”
As you laid beside Ari the day before he was due to leave, content listening to the crackling fireplace, head resting on his broad chest, his strong arm wrapped tenderly around your waist, pulling you back into him as if your touch itself sustained him, you couldn’t help your mind from wondering if you meant more to him than simply an easy fuck; someone he knew would be available to take his sexual frustrations out on for the couple weeks a year he was home.
You had never met someone who fucked you so rough, but also treated you with such tenderness, as if you were something worth taking care of.
There were moments throughout the past couple weeks, when his eyes weren’t consumed with just pure lust for you, there was something else swirling around those desire-blown pupils. But you told yourself it must be your imagination. Surely he couldn’t truly be looking at you with the devotion you wished he felt for you.
When time came for him to leave again, you didn’t have the words to express to him how you had treasured the past two weeks. You were fully aware that he was your fathers best friend, and even if that weren’t reason enough to prevent your heart from becoming attached to him, you knew his position which took him overseas for the majority of the year should be. Whatever this was between you two, it could never turn into something real.
But that didn’t stop you from wishing it could.
The following year was pure torture. When you had only hooked up just once, you could at least resign yourself to the thought that it was a one time thing that meant nothing to him.
But now, knowing you had both been so eager for it to happen again, and the expectation that come the next holiday season you would pick up right where you left off, made you miss his presence even more.
The thought itself was exciting, but also agony.
Because, even if you wouldn’t admit it aloud, you missed not only the toe curling orgasms, but the way his eyes softened when they looked at you, how your body fit so perfectly with his as he cradled you to sleep, and the tranquil happiness you seemed to only find in his company.
Unbeknownst to anyone else in his life, Ari had made the executive decision to have an additional two weeks at home this year, designed to be spent solely with you.
He knew he couldn’t offer you the life or relationship you deserved, but just in this one aspect of his life he wanted to be a little selfish.
He wanted his sweet Toffee all to himself for these next four weeks, watching as your face contort in the most exquisite way as pleasure washed through your entire body; he wanted to wake up beside you and spend the cold mornings bundled up with you, listening to your voice as you read chapters of your new favourite book; but more than anything, he wanted to kiss you every chance he got, roughly kiss you until you were completely out of breath, sweetly kiss you when you were in the middle of a sentence because he just couldn’t wait until you were finished, tenderly kiss you right before you fell asleep so you would dream about his lips on yours.
Being able to spend a whole month with Ari was like a dream come true.
He spent an entire day teaching you to make sufganiyot just as his mother had done every Hanukkah when he was growing up.
Promised to beat you at every board game you kept stored at your place, but you were also convinced he let you win every time.
You sat by the roaring fire, one blanket stretched to cover both your laps as you read in peace, simply enjoying being together, even if you were doing something separately.
Someone could be confused into thinking that given the intimate nature of how you spent your days together, the pure tenderness which softened your gaze and the doting, involuntary smile tugging at the corners of your lips whenever you gazed at him, your relationship was much more significant than occasional fuck buddies.
But you couldn’t allow yourself to think like that - not only did Ari live most of his life oceans away from where you did, but he was best friends with your father. There was no way the two of you could ever have something that sembled a real relationship.
However, it was undeniable that when the two of you were together, it was something even more magical than the holiday season itself. The sex was incredible, that was evident by the number of life shattering orgasms he could pull almost on demand from your body, but it wasn’t just the sex.
He could make you laugh like nobody else, helped you feel confident in your body, provided an environment where you were comfortable enough around him to divulge secrets you hadn’t even told some of your friends. He brought out the best version of you you didn't even realise existed before him.
After a particularly sensual and passionate night, you laid together by the roaring fire, however it was the warmth which came from snuggling beside Ari’s strapping naked form which you were most interested in. For the first time in your life you felt truly content, protected, but most of all, loved.
The way he looked at you, the way he touched you, he made you feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, he could so easily fool you into thinking you were the only one for him.
Saying your inevitable goodbye was excruciating. Each year it became progressively more painful, and you weren’t sure you could manage the searing heartbreak which would come next year when you were positive you were already in love with him.
You couldn’t keep living like this, wondering for close enough to an entire year if the man you loved would still want you next festive season, whether in the time you were apart he had found someone else to settle down with, or if he wouldn’t be able to make it home for the next holidays, or came to the realisation of any one of the numerous reasons he wouldn’t want to continue sleeping with his best friends daughter.
You made a pact to yourself that the next time you saw Ari you’d tell him. Tell him how insanely happy he made you, how all you could think about was if next holidays you would get to experience that feeling of pure rapture when you were together, and how it killed you to consider that might not be a possibility. Tell him how possessive you were over him and that the thought he satisfied his needs with anyone else over the period you were apart ripped your heart from your chest. Tell him how even though it was entirely impossible and beyond impractical, you wanted to spend every moment of your year laughing with him until your cheeks ached, learning every aspect of his passionate soul and making love to him every chance you got.
Tell him that you loved him.
A knock on your front door pulled you from your reverie as you straightened the corners of your tartan blanket. Butterflies bloomed in your stomach and your heart clenched with dread.
This was it.
When you opened the door Ari looked handsome as ever, broad and tanned as if he had spent far too long in the sun. But it was the twinkle in his striking eyes at the recognition that it was you behind the door that made your heart flutter in your chest.
He didn’t speak a single word as he dropped his bags inside the entrance and pulled you into a tight hug. His embrace was warm and familiar, and even though it was Ari who was technically returning home, in a way it felt like you had as well.
“Ari?” The inflection in your voice indicated it was a question. Ari pulled back and studied your face before answering.
“Yeah Toffee?” His features stiffened and all of a sudden he looked worried. You had never seen him look this anxious before, and you made the quick determination that you didn’t like it one bit.
“I’ve had something on my mind literally all year and I need to come out and say this before we pick up where we left off.” You nervously babbled, peering down at how your hands were shaking.
“Youre in a relationship?” His voice was filled with sorrow which tore your heart in two.
“What? No. Actually, it’s sort of the opposite.” You nervously giggled, the sound of which seemed to calm his nerves. You took a deep breath to summon the courage you needed to confess your secret when his gorgeous eyes looked at you so expectantly. “I’ve been so hung up on you the past year I haven’t been able to think straight - well if I’m honest it’s probably been longer than just this last year. And I know this might ruin everything, and that it probably puts you in an awkward situation because of my dad, but Ari I think I’m in love with you.”
He took that moment to finally kiss you, like he was a suffocating man and your lips were his air. Lord, you had missed the tickle of his beard and how he smelled warm and musky, with a hint of tobacco. Every intimate feeling you had left unsaid you poured into that kiss, finally feeling free to convey every last emotion into your expression of love for him and not have to hold back as you had previously.
When you finally pulled away, needing air, Ari rested his forehead against yours, scrunched his nose and affectionately rubbed the tip against your own.
“My darling Toffee, I know wholeheartedly that I am in love with you.” You had never seen Ari smile as much as when he confessed those words.
“You do?” You asked, and he responded with an ardent kiss to your lips.
“This moment right here, reuniting with you, that’s what got me through the whole year. You’re the person I come home for.”
This time it was you that kissed him, eager, luscious and downright possessive. His luggage long forgotten, you steered him towards your living room and the cosy space you had set up next to the fireplace for an occasion just like this one.
You’d already had some very memorable holidays with Ari, but you were certain none would compare to this year.

A witch is an ambiguous symbol of power and the unknown, identified in pop culture references for their hate of kids and love of evil as much as for their capability to create and mend.
Witches have consistently reflected the zeitgeist, whether that be humanity’s views on women or the collective tie to ritual and magic.
A witch in the modern day promotes a strong sense of feminism and power. It is deeply rooted in personal empowerment and is heavily influenced by the culture each witch has been subjected to. Currently, women who loved the wonders of spirituality, witchcraft and the connection to the universe had a relatively new title; Wiccan.
The enchantment of magic is that when it's truly personal, it's most powerful and possesses the greatest strength. That was simply why Y/N participated in the art of Wicca. Growing up with the negative connotations that her family projected onto the lifestyle, she had always been curious.
It started out small, she went out one evening and bought crystals, feeling bewitched by the healing prospect surrounding them.Amethysts were her favorite for the power to have all her stress and anxiety melt away. As she continued to exercise her spirituality, she’d turned to reading numerous books on the subject.
She felt a surge of power go through her veins, feeling connected to a higher power that was much stronger than she could’ve imagined. While religion was somewhat of the same thing, this seemed so much better than what she was raised with. It was a personal journey, one that didn’t involve people at local churches or other sacred worship places.
In addition to her adventures into reading the numerous pieces of literature and delving more into the healing aspect, she also thoroughly enjoyed the rituals that came with Wiccan culture. She was particularly fond of the Summer Solstice and the Winter Solstice. The celebrations were things she took very seriously.
For example, in preparation for Yule, she would spend days cleansing and decluttering the apartment, wanting to rid anything that didn’t let positivity and vibrance shine in the little space that she called home.
However, moving in with Spencer, her longtime boyfriend, definitely changed some things up for her. Instead of freely organizing things to be donated, regifted, or sold, she would have to stop and ask him if he was comfortable letting the item or items go. He wasn’t against her beliefs and practices by any means but she just knew that he was skeptical.
Spencer was a man of logic, she knew that. He was the type of person who thoroughly researched, dissected, and tried to understand the intricacies of the world around him. Which Y/N would lovingly tell him that he needed to take a step back and connect with the world around him, to let his mind stop working overtime and let himself breathe. He never listened but.. She tried and that was all that mattered.
She was usually met with many questions that were laced with skepticism. It wasn’t out of malice, she knew that. Most people just didn’t understand. The questions were pretty typical. “Well, how do you know there are really any higher powers out there?”
“Where is the proof that you aren’t doing all this for nothing?”
“Do you truly believe that those crystals have any healing power whatsoever?”
Despite his love for logic and research, Spencer did have a soft spot for the things that his girlfriend did. He never personally indulged before and yeah, he would sometimes act like a little brat and give her a hard time, but he admired how she never changed her belief system. Instead, she just did a little extra around their shared apartment to try and invite her scholar boyfriend into the spirit of the season.
However, this year was different.
Y/N ended up getting a bad case of the stomach flu on the days leading up to Yule. It was to the point that she needed to be hospitalized.
There was no mood for a celebration whenever she was gravely ill, barely being able to hold down any liquids or solids. It managed to crush her heart though. Instead of welcoming the new season, she was stuck in a brightly lit, cold hospital.
She would watch the snow cascade from the clouds and stick to the ground from her room’s window, looking similar to a sad puppy looking out from a shelter’s window and yearning for the opportunity to run and enjoy life.
Spencer had been busy with work, there being a case that put him out in Colorado for two weeks and she still didn’t know when he was getting home. Talking on the phone with him helped her a small bit but she was at least hoping that he’d be there in person for her.
However, she knew what she signed up for when dating Spencer in the first place. She couldn’t be angry or upset with him, she just missed her boyfriend. Thankfully, after a few more tests, she’d be free to go back home that evening since she wasn’t needing to be kept nourished by a tube any longer.
Unbeknownst to his girlfriend, Spencer had gotten back from Colorado several days ago, enlisting the team for help as they were working on her typical traditions. Penelope was probably the most excited out of the bunch, getting right to work on creating a Yule altar for the coffee table, going a little overboard as she opted for a plethora of garland, candles, oranges, some pinecones that she couldn’t help but throw a little glitter on, crystals, and golden discs to call forth the sunlight that she’d already heard Y/N tell her so much about.
While she worked on the altar, Emily and JJ were sitting with Spencer in the living room, awaiting his instruction of what he figured would be considered clutter and what needed to be boxed up. Most of it was old books that he’d had scattered throughout the apartment, which he had taped up the box full and was taking them to the trunk of his car. He wasn’t going to throw them out, no way. He just knew that this would be something to brighten Y/N’s spirits, to come home to a house that was already prepped and ready to embrace the new season.
Whenever the house was thoroughly cleaned and decorated, Spencer had a few candles ready for when she had gotten home, their notepads and pens laid out on the little part of the table that wasn’t covered by the altar that was made with love. “Alright. I think that should do it.” Spencer announced as he was letting his hands rest against his hips, his eyes looking around the living room that looked beautifully cleaned, organized, and decorated.
“You’ve outdone yourself on this one, Spence.” JJ commented, a proud smile on her face while Penelope was nodding with excitement. “She is truly gonna love that you did this for her. When I went to visit her yesterday, she looked so heartbroken because she couldn’t come home and prepare.” There was a sense of pride that washed over Spencer.
Even if he didn’t necessarily subscribe to the Wiccan belief system, he did know that this would be a memorable Yule for Y/N, it also proved just how much he loved her.
Whenever the women who came by to help were making their own ways home, Spencer was just patiently waiting to surprise his girlfriend, knowing she’d be getting home at any given minute since they’d already had a previous phone call as she was getting packed up to leave the hospital after four very long days.
It was a little silly, Spencer feeling so giddy. It felt like his heart was gonna beat out of his chest each time he saw a car’s windshield reflecting through the open window.
As soon as he could hear the sound of the locks in the door clicking through, he was quickly perking up.
The look on Y/N’s face when she walked through the front door was enough to make his heart melt in his chest. “I haven’t been entirely truthful with you.. I got home a few days ago so I could clean the apartment. Even if I don’t particularly understand your beliefs, I wanted to make sure things were prepared for you.”
He offered a smile. “After all, we want to invite in the new season with positive vibes, right?” His words were enough to warm Y/N completely, the bitter cold of the Virginia winter not being able to chill her anymore.
After closing the door, she was hurrying over to hug her boyfriend, a tight embrace that was borderline suffocating. This meant the world to her. Instead of him being a brat and asking her a million questions or outright teasing her, he was embracing everything she had to offer.
That was a sign of true, pure, and raw love.

CHRISTMAS WITH TOTAL DRAMA CHARACTERS(CHRIS, DUNCAN, HEATHER) SCENARIOS
Merry Christmas everyone! So sorry I couldn’t post something Christmas themed sooner, I hope everyone’s been having a wonderful day with family and friends whether you celebrate or not!🎄❤️
CHRIS
Tumblr media
Despite the Christmas events he hosted for many networks, Chris didn’t feel he was really celebrating it until he went over to Newfoundland.
Before dinner, you joined him on this tradition that his homeland calls “Mummering” where it was basically Guess Who and Trick or Treat combined.
Needless to say, every neighbour you visited guessed who he was correctly.
He was reluctant to complete the family secret Santa. Originally, you sucked your teeth, thinking he was just being arrogant. However, from that event, you got an insight on the nature of a lot of his relatives- opportunistic.
“Could you lend me a few thousand dollars? What’s a guy like you to lose?", "Could you be the best nephew in the world and pay for the wedding of my best friend’s daughter?", "Could you help me pay off my mortgage?"
No wonder why your husband was barely enjoying himself at the dinner table! These people didn’t see him as a human; they saw him as a big shot wallet.
“Tell me, Chris... Is this how every Christmas goes for you?” you asked when it was just you and him, sitting next to him on the guest bed.
He was as sombre as ever. Sombre!,“Yeah. Told you the rest of the family weren’t important. I only bother to put up with them for my mom. I wish they all drop dead soon though.”
Not on Christmas Day... You couldn’t end the evening like this,“Okay... Is there anything you want to do together to cheer you up before we go to bed?”
“Hm...” the exhaustion shifts in his eyes as he smugly commands,“Tell me how good I look.”
You sigh in annoyance. That, you could do any day,“Really, Chris?”
“Fiiiiiine.” his moping tone of voice settled back,“I suppose raiding the leftover desserts wouldn’t hurt.”
“That...” is an oddly simple request coming from him,“Yet you’re implying you never did it?”
His attention is caught by the room’s door,“I didn’t have anyone I wanted to do it with.”
And unlike the fall of snow, his festive misery had vanished all at once.
“ᴬˡˡ ᴵ ʷᵃⁿᵗ ᶠᵒʳ ᶜʰʳⁱˢᵗᵐᵃˢ ⁱˢ ʸᵒᵘ!”
DUNCAN
Tumblr media
Duncan’s dad was very pushy about Church this time around.
And he always found in his best interest to not go anyway.
This time though, you were there with him. So he decided, he’ll go this year.
He was also forced to join the local youth choir that would sing on the streets to raise money for those in need.
As long as he got to wear a mask...
“Not happening.” his dad sneered.
Okay, it wasn’t actually as bad as he thought it’d go.
Though he didn’t want to give his dad that satisfaction so he played sour about coming home. His main motivation was to steal some plates worth of food, give his mother her Christmas present and stuff the stockings of his cousins with bars of coal.
If anyone asks, you didn’t see anything.
His mom knitted him a Christmas sweater in return so obviously he wore it.
He visited his friends back in juvie with you.
It was quite heartwarming, seeing these teens who had done wrong in the past still have tenderness to friends and family, making you wish them a good future post leaving prison.
Besides, if they were Duncan’s friends, they had to have some morals.
Walking back, it was clear that he had room left for mischief and wanted to fill that space by stalling so you would be in front of him and turn around in confusion to not be met with Duncan, but his snowball.
“Hahaha! Nice makeup!”
You brush the snow off your face and feel your own devil inspire.
Let’s give him a taste of his own medicine.
You bent down and rolled up a snowball. Let the fight begin!
“ ᴼ ᶜᵒᵐᵉ, ᵃˡˡ ʸᵉ ᶠᵃⁱᵗʰᶠᵘˡ, ʲᵒʸᶠᵘˡ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵗʳⁱᵘᵐᵖʰᵃⁿᵗ!”
HEATHER
Tumblr media
She scrunches her nose at the arrival of Christmas, that season that’s “nothing but noise and shallow junk.”
"I got you a present." you held it out for her.
“Buying my favour when it’s not my birthday, huh?” she looked inside the bag with no anticipation until she saw designer clothes neatly folded. She raised a smile and an eyebrow as she glanced back at you,“Okay, I guess it’s not that bad.”
Seeing her house made you wonder why she auditioned to come on the show.
To her displeasure, you were having fun cutting snowflakes, painting ornaments and decorating gingerbread men with her younger brothers and sisters.
Even more so when you helped her parents prepare the meal.
“We could never dream of Heather helping us out in the kitchen!” her mother claimed, wearing gloves over her manicured hands and a long apron over her expensive attire,“This is a nice change!”
“For sure! (Y/N) should come every year! Maybe our Heather Feather could learn a thing or two from you!” her father would then add on, with a hopeful smile.
With that, she dragged you out of the kitchen by the ear lobe.
“Let’s get out of here. I want something to drink.” she demanded, all ready in her outside winter gear.
Why come home if you’re not going to enjoy yourself?
You’re about to pay for the cozy drinks, but Heather interrupts you.
“I’ll do it.”
After an opening sip and staring at all this pure white showering from the sky, you smirk at Total Drama’s first villain,“So she does have a giving heart!”
Her answer was as cold, but her face was soft,“Don’t make me spill this on you.” the steam from her cup should be the only thing your eyes made contact with,“I just felt nice today. Don’t get used to it.”
“I won’t, I won’t.”
Something about that clarification made her tighten her grip on her cup for a small moment.
Seems like she wanted to give home a chance to fix her a reason for being...this. Generous.
A reason to like Christmas.
However, being with you, peacefully drinking with her, not disgusted or intimidated, was a reason on its own.
“ᵀʰⁱˢ ʸᵉᵃʳ, ᵗᵒ ˢᵃᵛᵉ ᵐᵉ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᵗᵉᵃʳˢ, ᴵ’ˡˡ ᵍⁱᵛᵉ ⁱᵗ ᵗᵒ ˢᵒᵐᵉᵒⁿᵉ ˢᵖᵉᶜⁱᵃˡ,”

Outcast // Hayakawa Aki x GN! Reader Fluff
Tumblr media
Warnings: None. Sfw. Focuses on Aki and reader’s healthy relationship. Story note: This is before Power and Denji moved into his apartment and when Himeno was alive.
————- Note: I'M CRINGING SO HARD AT THIS ALREADY- ;_; ahem. Anyways, no manga spoilers or spoilers past season one are here. So Anime onlys are completely safe. :)
I randomly got motivation to do this since it is a shower thought I had. Fictional character brain rot, am I right? I don’t know if this is considered a full on fic but more of a one-shot. Hope you enjoy. This is my first time writing on Tumblr (or a full on one-shot in general lol) so yeah. Hope it isn't too bad, if you want you can give tips in comments. ^^
Ended up being a bit longer than I thought, it was fun writing even though I struggled a bit at times to be happy with the dialogue and stuff. May edit a bit (cough cough a lot) more.
————-
Another month, another day.
Nighttime had overtaken the skies as you hear your co-workers laughing and enjoying themselves. They're all having fun, no worries whatsoever.
You were invited by Himeno to go out and drink. To have some fun for a bit. To let go of reality for a bit. The harsh reality of devils and lives constantly being robbed of innocent people.
It was a successful mission, so you were at the ramen restaurant watching your colleagues get drunk off of alcohol. It smelled like sweat and alcohol in the air, as you quietly sat there at a table not speaking to anyone.
In all seriousness, you didn’t really want to come. You would much rather stay home in your comfort area. You mainly came for two reasons: one being that you didn't want to decline Himeno's offer and seem a bit rude. You were starting to run out of excuses to not come. Second, being that you didn’t want to be the only outcast who didn’t come to a meeting where your co-workers are supposed to celebrate and forget about worries. All in bliss, getting high off of alcohol, escaping from reality.
You chose a chair where not too much people were as their laughs kept echoing. You sat somewhere to at least make you seem a bit included. You didn't drink any alcohol. You weren't a big fan of some. Certain drinks to you tasted disgusting in your opinion, and you didn't know how someone like Himeno could drink it raw.
You tried to peer your eyes at anything in an attempt at trying to ease the awkwardness of not having anyone to speak to. You didn't want to make it obvious you felt left out. If you were being honest, you felt like an outcast, like you weren’t really as included as some other workers are. Nobody tried to talk to you. And if they would do other activities, you'd be at home. Uninvited.
Or if you were invited, you barely spoke to anyone. If someone would reserve seats in a restaurant for the entire division, you would be the the person who is most likely to have been forgotten. Leading you to then be forced to eat at another table away from everyone else. Either that or if you do sit with many others, you'd be there in silence. Only occasionally speaking as you watch everyone else chat away, carefree. Having fun, getting high, getting that spark in their chest when they find someone they really enjoy talking to, and enjoying their time there in general.
So in conclusion, you felt like an outcast to others. Some people would only occasionally speak to you, only to stop speaking to you again. You barely knew anyone of them outside of work.
Well, except for one person that is.
Hayakawa Aki. Professional Aki. Known for being number one devil hater. The man whose family was robbed of him. The man who was forced to grow up too early in his life.
The Gun Devil obviously impacted everyone. Including you. So you couldn’t help but sympathize with him. At least some people who got affected had somebody. Whether it was an aunt, uncle, grandparent…While for Hayakawa, he had nobody. He had always blamed himself for his brother’s death. You knew that since you’ve known him for a while now. He always has blamed himself ever since that day.
November 18th, 10:00 am.
The Gun Devil would arrive and hit Japan for 26 seconds.
Deaths: 57,912.
United States: 124 seconds, 548,012 deaths.
China: 37 seconds, 316,932 deaths.
Soviet Union: 210 seconds, 155,302 deaths.
India: 15 seconds, 29,950.
Canada: 7 seconds, 8,481 deaths.
Mexico: 2 seconds, 6,088 deaths.
Hawaii: 0.4 seconds, 780 deaths.
In about five minutes, the Gun Devil managed to rob almost 1.2 million people of their lives.
New laws were enforced, orphanages began to overflow with desperate children and teenagers alike, kids, adults, grandparents, teachers, nearly everyone alike was impacted by the Gun Devil.
Hayakawa Aki, the man who deep down is filled with sorrow, anger, and guilt.
You remembered all of that. Felt a bit of sorrow, pity, and guilt in your gut for him and other victims, as a familiar face you began to notice was standing in a corner.
You couldn't help but feel yourself light up a bit. It was an opportunity. At least someone you know is there. At least someone who you know personally is there instead of being alone awkwardly, barely knowing anyone. You then stood up, and begin to wave to him, being careful not to be too loud to the point other workers would notice you. But just enough to get his attention. He noticed your hand, as his eyes met yours and he began to walk to you. Suit tied perfectly, hair tied in a topknot, eyes darting onto you.
Mister Hayakawa. Number one devil hater. The one who is supposedly cold on the outside.
As he walked toward you, you lightly smiled as he breathed in a cigarette.
“Aki- how are you?”
You were desperate to find someone to talk to by this point. You felt like an outcast at times as stated. Barely anyone talked to you at the moment and before. You couldn't help but feel alone at times. Every time you'd met up for the division to hang out and have fun it'd be the same. You would just be silent and ponder why you even decided to come.
Aki was the only one you knew well in that division. He was the only one who attempted to talk to you. The one who you could sometimes notice smiling in your presence.
Aki, the one you can go to to vent your problems.
Aki, the one who even bothers to ask how you are.
Aki, the one who speaks ever so politely to people that deserve it. Especially you.
Hayakawa Aki, the one who is always concerned for your safety despite what people say. Hayakawa Aki, the one who treats your wounds if you injure yourself. Hayakawa Aki, the one who you can always go to for comfort. The one you trust…
You were broken out of your train of thought, when he responded.
“I’m fine for now, thank you. I hope everything is going well for you.”
“It’s going fine so far- just glad to see you here so I can have someone to talk to. Better than just sitting there alone, am I right?”
He raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Hm? Don’t you have anyone else who talks to you here? You seem easy to get along with. I'm sure there's someone other than me.”
“Yeah, well…”
You couldn’t help but feel a flutter when he said you were, “easy to get along with.” Did he mean it? Cold devil hater Mister Hayakawa, calling someone easy to get along with? How nice. How surprising it’s you out of all people.
“I don’t really have any, close ones here y’know? I mean…Nobody really tried to reach out to me except for you. Or at least not as much.”
He lightly took a puff of his cigarette, when he spoke again.
“I see.”
You couldn’t help but notice a bit of pity in his eyes. Like he felt a bit, bad for you in a way? It was very hard to notice. But you can swear he at least feels a tiny bit of pity for you. A bit of empathy.
Aki empathizes with you. He remembers what it was like alone. Having to recover his family’s cold and lifeless bodies. Or at least what was left. They didn’t even look human. They looked like cold mannequins disguised as humans. No life in their eyes. He remembers the cold air and numb feeling he felt in his chest. He doesn't even know how to describe it.
He remembers being frozen in fear as he felt indescribable emotions during that time. A bit of denial when he first saw his house get blown away. Trying to process what just happened to not only him, but the entire world. Fear, anger, sorrow, guilt…
He felt alone. Like an outcast, perhaps? Nobody was there. That was something that hit him like a rock. Something he had absolutely no choice but to accept. No aunts, uncles, grandparents, no nothing.
He remembers coming to the realization that he truly was alone. Lonely, is the right word perhaps. Over time, he didn’t feel anything to it anymore as he first did. He was now numb. He felt nothing. Empty, perhaps. He was used to that feeling now. As stated, he became numb.
He has been used to waking up, going to work, and in hopes of getting closer to achieving his goal of revenge to soothe all of the anger and sadness he has. He just felt a bit...empty. Perhaps.
He lived for nothing but revenge. Anger, hate, sadness, guilt.
He’d wake up every day in his empty apartment. It was the same cycle every day since the Gun Devil.
Wake up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat.
Wake up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat.
Wake up…go to work, come home, sleep, repeat…
Revenge. That was his only purpose. Nothing else. Repeat the same cycle every day and hope to get closer to his goal as stated. Hope to soothe the pain. Hope to get peace by revenge.
Afterall, he had nobody. So why should he care about anyone or anything else?
Although, there was one exception.
Someone that feels just as lonely as him at times. Someone that sits alone at gatherings, such as this one. Barely talking to anyone. Someone who can listen to him. Comfort him. Support him. Just as much as he does to other’s. Almost as much as to how he doesn't hesitate to pull out his sword to save a life. Almost as much as how with each stab or usage of the blade reduces his lifespan with every time he tears a devil's flesh.
Aki cries, you and Himeno know that.
Even if it is just a partner he has known for a bit or a rookie, he cries. He cares.
Aki, whose heart deserves so much more.
Aki, who is deep down one of the most empathetic and caring man you've ever known.
Aki, who’d cry over your death.
Aki, who would do anything to protect you even if he won’t admit how much you mean to him…
Sometimes, he might even think when he sees you that he might have something in his life other than revenge, anger, sorrow, guilt, or the same cycle for once.
Maybe, instead of going through the same endless and empty cycle, it was pretty fun to talk to you.
The day got a bit more fun whenever he talked to you. It was just recently he noticed that. He'd feel something whenever he would see the way you enjoy talking to him. Whether it was him telling you how ridiculous you can be, whether it was about devils, whether it is him venting his frustrations...
To see you smile, laugh, and to know you enjoyed it just as much. You were so grateful to how he was one of the few, no, the only one who reached out to you in and outside of work.
Aki, the one who tries to include you even in gatherings like these. The one who at least tries to speak to you if he sees you're alone in gatherings. All so that you don't get the saame feeling he gets when he's alone.
Aki, who makes the places where you're usually an outcast, left out in conversations, kind of fun.
Back at the present, you were there in your chair. The air smelling like alcohol, beer, and sweat. Aki stood there. His tall figure looking over you. Analyzing you.
That’s when you realized he has been standing this whole time.
It was a long mission, his legs must be sore and tired. You notice the bandage over his arm due to him donating some skin to the fox devil. He deserves a rest. A whole break honestly. A whole break from this miserable life in general. From this sorrowful world. A world where he could be happy and have a life purpose that isn’t revenge. Aki, who deserves so much more...
It comes to your mind to offer a seat to Aki.
“Oh, you’ve been standing a lot, haven’t you?”
“I guess so.”
“Here.”
You get up, and slide the chair out a bit.
You see he gets a bit confused as you pull the chair out, that's when you explain.
“You can have my seat.”
He gets a bit caught off guard by the sudden gesture. A nice act of kindness to him. He then begins to politely decline, not wanting to take your seat.
“Hm? It’s fine. I’m alright with standing. Thank you for the offer though.”
“Nono, you need a break, Aki. You really should...relax for once. You’ve been through a lot. And we got out of that mission barely alive. We don't even know if we'll survive the day tomorrow...So because of that,"
"can I at least offer you a seat, Mister Hayakawa?”
Been through a lot.
Been through a lot is an understatement.
For a while, he’s had nobody and his only life purpose was revenge.
Yet hear you are, concerned for him. Caring for his life. Even though you know his lifespan has been shortened due to the curse devil, you are still there with him. He gets baffled when he thinks about it. Someone as kind and sweet as you nurturing him. Listening to him. Even if he can't even owe you a full life if he survived. But yet, here you are still wanting him to relax. Offering him a seat. Comforting him. Smiling at him. Talking to him outside of work. Being concerned for him...
You’re a pretty damn good person, he thinks.
Just the way your eyes light up when you talk to him. The way they light up when you get really into conversations with him. That spark in your chest. The way you act that way around him.
He’d pretend to be annoyed by you at times. By your ridiculous conversations at times. Mister perfect Hayakawa. Always so professional. But deep down, he can’t deny it.
You’re adorable.
He gets out of his thoughts about you, about your pretty face. The one he could never bring himself to hurt or insult. When he is about to speak again to politely decline once again, you begin to slide his body down onto the chair stand up.
He gets a bit caught off guard when your arms go onto him. A flutter goes off in his chest as he realizes your skin is touching his.
“Please, let me, Mister Hayakawa.”
You lightly smile at him when your eyes meet his.
Mister Hayakawa. He’d pretend to be annoyed by the childish nickname you gave him just to tease him, however he can’t help but lightly smile at your childish teasing's. How you are always more cheerful around him. Especially when he tries to include you in conversations he notices you're left out in. He can't help but find it cute with how comfortable you are with him.
As he gets forced to sit down, you begin to walk away to maybe try and find another seat or a comfortable place to stand. But that’s when you feel a hand on your arm, ushering you down.
“Since there’s one seat, we’ll make it work.”
“Wait- hu-“
You get extremely caught off guard, when he drags you down onto the chair until you’re on his lap.
“Wait- Aki- wha-?“
“There’s one chair here, isn’t there?”
“How about we both sit here. It works. Doesn’t it?”
Your eyes widen a bit, extremely flustered and caught off guard. You did not expect that at all. Especially from Aki out of all people.
“Aki I’m going to crush you-“
“I’m fine. I can handle you sitting on my lap.”
You’re holding back your weight to not crush him, you're tensed up and incredibly flustered at him suddenly offering you on his lap. You look at him, a bit shocked. As he continues smoking his cigarette non-challantly like it's nothing.
You get even more caught off guard when he has his arms go onto your back and stomach, trying to straighten your posture.
Since when did he get so bold? You wonder.
When did he get so handsome? So charming?
“Straighten your posture a bit, bad posture can cause back pain. I don't want your back being sore on the next mission.”
“R-right…”
You swear you can hear him lightly chuckle as you’re on his lap. On how flustered you are. This is unlike him. Very unlike him. He's a sweet and empathetic man deep down. You know that. However this is in public, in front of others, where anyone can see.
However, this one time, perhaps he doesn’t care.
He wants you to be included. To not be like him when he was alone. Cold, empty, going through the same endless meaningless cycle in hopes for magically finding happiness one day.
Aki empathizes with you, Aki would always understand your emotions no matter what. Whatever happens, he'd always be as understanding as he possibly could with you.
“Aki, are you sure this is oka-“
“I’m the one who offered you on my lap, didn’t I?”
You nod, when his hands go to your shoulders to massage it. He tries to get you to relax, noticing how tense you are.
"You should relax, being tensed up can also cause soreness."
Because of those words, you begin to ease up a bit. You feel your body slowly stop being tense. And you swear you hear Aki chuckle about how flustered you are.
You’re cute. He thinks to himself.
A few minutes go by, and you and Aki begin to have some small talk. Some parts of the conversation about devils, how work is going, life, advice for outside of work…
For the first time in this gathering, you genuinely smile and laugh with him. As Aki looks at you, he notices you have that spark in your eye. The feeling you get when you're really enjoying a conversation with someone. That feeling in your chest. Like a fire being lit up and the flames burning. That great feeling. And if you're being honest, you can tell Aki feels the same.
Aki, the man you can always trust to be your therapist. The one who would wipe your tears if you cried. The one who calms you down. Helps you relax. You, the one Aki is empathetic towards. The one who Aki trusts to talk to. The one he can vent to. The few he wouldn't mind crying in front of.
You continue chatting instead of drinking. Him chuckling at some of your funny or weird retorts. You're still on his lap. Which in your opinion, is a lot more fun than getting high off of beer and alcohol as an escapism from reality.
Perhaps this night was a bit fun after all.

Yandere Chrollo x Festive! Reader (Head Canons)
(How Yandere Chrollo would react to having a very festive S/O during the holidays)
Growing up in Meteor city, not a lot of good things happened. However, Christmas was one of the few times a year when people were a lot softer for some reason. So, although Chrollo doesn't really care too much about Christmas, he still enjoys it. It brings him a sense of comfort that not even he can deny.
Before he met you, he still enjoyed Christmas, just not as much. He would still celebrate a little with the rest of the Spiders. He would attend Uvo's Christmas parties (That ended up in a lot of members passed out drunk), and maybe, if he was especially feeling it that year, gift his friends a small present. He would usually leave the friend after to do his own thing, and he always left Uvo's party first out of anyone. So, while Christmas was like any other day of the year to him, it wasn't like any other time of the year, if that makes sense.
He wasn't all that festive, but he will admit, he did try to get into it. He would wear a Christmas themed outfit on the day of Christmas, and he would drink more hot chocolate than coffee around this time. Of course, his favorite part is sitting around a fire (whether its in a house that belongs to him, or the residents of someone he murdered), with a nice book.
So when he meets you, he wasn't surprised when you were more festive than him. A lot of people are. However, for some reason, he thinks you're starting to rub off on him a little. Post-kidnapping, he'd come over and help you decorate. Having trouble hanging up a festive Christmas decoration? No problem! He'd love to walk right up behind you, and reach up to do it for you, making sure to press his chest right up against your back.
If you want to ask him to help decorate some cookies, he'd be in heaven. You asked him for help! That must mean you're becoming more comfortable and reliant on him, right? He'd try to keep the process as clean as possible, but if you want to do that thing in every holiday movie where they're baking cookies and they make a mess out of the kitchen by throwing flour everywhere, he'd still enjoy it. He'd also think its cute how you think you could win. I mean, sure, he'd let you win, but if you get too cocky and make a remark a bit too arrogant, he won't hesitate to put you in your place (Same thing for snowball fights). He's a smart man, so his goal during this fight wouldn't be to get the most flour everywhere, because he knows it would just be a pain to clean up later. His goal would be to get the most flour on you. (Although, he doesn't mind cleaning up too much, it just means he gets to spend more time at your place)
He's also sure to get you some very nice presents. He's Santa now, because anything you even mentioned that you showed interest in having, he is sure to steal get it for you. Did you happen to look at a piece of expensive jewelry a little but longer than you normally would? It's yours, now. Even if you don't like or wear jewelry.
After the kid-napping is a different story. He hopes that the Christmas spirit thing will help you like him more, even if it's just a little. If that's not the case, prepare for teasing remarks such as "Y/N, why do you continue to push me away? What happened to your 'Christmas Spirit'?".
He also gets all the ingredients to make cookies, just like old times. Don't want to bake them? Fine. He'll do it himself. Just don't sound too surprised when you don't get to bake anything else that holiday season. If you do choose to help him, however, there are two possibilities: 1. You can just be compliant. You can help him make the cookies. I mean, there's no rule saying you have to have fun, or be happy while doing it with him. Or 2. You can purposefully screw everything up. Honestly, Chrollo was expecting this more than the former. So he's not really upset when you just so happen to drop the dough on the floor. In fact, he might even set you up to fail if you choose this route, because the longer you take to make the cookies, the more time you spend with him. It doesn't matter if you're working more with against than with him.
Oh, and how could I forget? The thing every guy, gal, and in between pal looks forward to. Setting the star on top of the Christmas tree. If all your Christmas spirit is gone, and you're not helping him decorate the tree he thought you would like, he might pretend to struggle to put it on top. "Y/N, dear, would you help me for a moment?" If you refuse, he'll probably just give up on decorating the Christmas tree. You seeing it incomplete motivates you to finish decorating the tree by yourself. Which, you have trouble reaching the tip of that stupid tree, and he, similar to how he helped you hang up the decorations on the higher parts of the wall, will help you put the star on top. He'd also do this if you were the one who decorated the tree to start with. However, if you do decided to help him put up the star, he'd be delighted! he gets to show you how strong he is, hoping to impress you with his strength when he so easily picks you up and holds you up so you can set the star on top. He might hold you for just a little longer than you like, but he doesn't really care. Of course, if you start to grow impatient, he'd set you down. You could have just asked, you know.
By far, one of his favorite things is to drive around at night with you. No particular destination in mind, just drive around and admire the pretty Christmas lights. He likes looking at your reaction more than the lights, though. You finally seem happy, even though he's right next to you. Sure, it's because you're ignoring him and you're in your own little world, watching the lights, but who cares? It proves his point that you can be happy this holiday season even with him. If he get to a nice point, he might even put his hand on your thigh if you're distracted and/or happy enough. If you push his hand off you, no problem. He'll just use his hand for something even better, like caressing your cheek and telling you how beautiful you look, and other cheesy things like how you're the only Christmas gift he wants. He thinks it romantic, you probably think its annoying. (Unless you've succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome, but what how you return the affection is up to you). If you slap his hand away one more, that's a-okay! If you don't want his hand to hold, or touch you, the steering wheel won't mind having his hand on it. He'll drive you back home early, and your escape from the place he currently has you staying in is no longer there.
Overall, he becomes a lot more festive when he's with you because he see's it as an opportunity to spend more time with you. He'd be willing to do just about any Christmas tradition you can think of, but remember, he's a master manipulator, and he's very good at twisting things to his own liking. No matter what you suggest, he'll find a way to attempt to make it romantic. If he feels like respecting your boundaries more that day, (not likely), he might just let you enjoy whatever tradition it is you like simply because you're happy despite him being around, giving him a boost of confidence and fueling his delusions that you will someday love him back. However, there's no promise that the next day, he won't force you to cuddle up with him next to a fire while reading a book. He let you indulge in your favorite thing about Christmas, so it's only fair you do the same for him. If you'd ask, he'd read to you. I mean, he'd read to you any day, but still. He at least offers it to you. If you refuse, he just continues reading to himself while still having his arm wrapped around you and lightly stroking your arm.

Day.7 ~ Searching for pumpkins ~ Hallowtober
Tumblr media
Dean and Sam x fem!friend!reader (platonic)
warning : fluff, no use of Y/n
summary : Hunting demons and supernaturals in twos is good but it gets boring in the long run, if there are three of you everything is much better and if it means that you also get a delicious pumpkin soup in October it's even better…but if there are no pumpkins, the hunters have to move and hunt them, isn't it clear?
info : My first time writing for the two and even if I was not completely satisfied I hope you like it, have fun and see you next time :)
masterlist
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was one thing if you liked Halloween, I mean what's not to like? There's autumn, the not quite cold season when you could wrap yourself in a blanket and sit on the couch and enjoy a nice warm cocoa with cream and cinnamon, or a delicious warm fruit punch or roast some marshmallows over the fire with friends and family.
But above all, the autumn from September to October was the best because at the end of autumn, the day before the Christmas season began, Halloween was celebrated, the night of horror and fright, whether in a big or small town, everyone took part.
From the shops that decorated their windows with cobwebs and ghosts where everyone rushed to get something sweet, a costume, drinks and most importantly a pumpkin.
Because the fruit and vegetable was one of the most important parts of the tradition of celebrating Halloween not just as a decoration, a costume or eating pumpkin soup, it was a day when monsters rose and everyone seemed to accept the scary side of the world, an extraordinary day for everyone except…Sam and Dean.
Two brothers who had to deal with this extraordinary world all their lives, because there was no real choice, driven not only by their father but also by the instinct to protect humanity, they did nothing but search and hunt every day, many had joined them on their journey and they had also lost many, but they had also made a friend along the way.
A huntress who had saved the two brothers from a Wendigoo when the three of them were openly searching for the creature after it had killed one of their acquaintances and she had made it her goal to avenge it, simple yet serious.
But more than anything, the three of them had a connection not just on a paranormal level, it was also a connection of lostness and searching so the three of them soon set off together Dean was convinced when he saw the black painted camper and Sam when he heard their movements and the three of them have been inseparable ever since.
When they weren't out looking for clues during the day Dean complained that Sam still worried too much and Sam complained that his brother disrespected him, it was the little arguments, the making up when they found each other in the camper or a shabby motel or in the evening when they had to help each other out of a sitaution.
,,You'll never get rid of us again," she heard Dean say as the door of the caravan opened and she saw the two brown-eyed men come in with bags of food in their hands as they not only had hardly any food left, they also needed some for their pumpkin soup.
She saw the evasive look on Dean's face and Sam seemed quite busy unpacking the food, ,,I hope not…but tell me, where are my pumpkins?" she asked, having already peeled and mashed the potato with the two of them a few hours earlier.
Sam was much more skilful with a peeler than his brother, who stayed to cut the potatoes, whistling as Dean made his way to the back of the caravan and continued to deal with the kitchen roll ghosts he had placed in the caravan, ,,Sorry…listen when we arrived we were all sold out, we left everything but no one had any more pumpkins," Sam finally admitted and gave her an encouraging smile.
A smile she couldn't be angry with for a long time and he was about to make a stupid remark to Dean when she put the knife down and wiped her hands on a dry towel, she reached for her bag and a hunting knife.
,,What's that?" asked Sam, who was probably still puzzling over what to cook for autumn and his brother had already jumped up, ,,Well, what does it look like? Pumpkin hunting of course!" exclaimed Dean and winked at her before Sam joined them with a shake of his head and the three of them set off knowing that there were only wild pumpkins to fetch or well, to “borrow”.
The idea of borrowing came from Dean after he realised that wild pumpkins would mean hours of searching, he promptly looked and found a farm nearby where they were crouched in the bushes waiting like fugitives.
,,How important is the soup to you?" Sam asked, looking anxiously at the field of pumpkins where they saw not only the target but also several guard dogs who didn't look too friendly.
When Dean simply pulled his brother along, she said it would be worth it and watched in amusement as the two of them scampered towards the field for a few moments until they ran back with a shout and the barking and shooting of a shotgun could be heard but the three of them disappeared back into the dark, laughing.
A dark from which they only emerged at the Carvan, laughing and the two pumpkins safe in each other's arms, ,,You're incredible boys," she grinned, wiping her face as she held the door open for the brothers and the two sat down exhausted on the corner of the couch.
,,This better be worth it," Dean muttered, smirking nonetheless as he saw Sam's pained expression, still a little shaken by it all. With the two of them arguing in the background, Friday the 13th on the telly and the smell of soup in the air, she set to work unwrapping the pumpkins, chopping them up and throwing everything into a pot of spices and stock, chatting with the two of them and drinking a couple of sweet punches before the shrill of the alarm clock signalled that the soup was ready.
With a little cream, she drew a spider's web on the soup with a toothpick and placed the bowl down for the two of them and took some for herself, ,,So I hope you enjoy your meal," she said and waited a moment, glancing from left to right as she sat between them and saw the faces of both of them start to smile broadly before she pulled into a squeezing, warm embrace.
,,This is amazing!" Dean exclaimed and took another spoonful of the orange soup and Sam took another sip, ,,You're the best, really," Sam said and she felt the pride inside her as she gave them both a treat on this scary day.
A day on which she was once again happy and grateful for her friendship with the two of them, a day on which every circumstance, every look and every word meant so much more and if she could repay them with such delicious soup, she would make it every day now.
Fandom Issues
Yesterday was a bad day all around in our fandom and I have some thoughts. Not all of them are about yesterday and I will leave them below the cut.
I’m gonna be fully transparent here. I haven’t read most of Sarah Rowan’s reviews of the spinoffs.  I did read her initial review of the entire season and it wasn’t to my taste and I moved on.
That being said,  Sarah and I haven’t talked in some time, but I do NOT believe for one moment that she is a racist. I did read her review of the 4th episode.  She has apologized for her unfortunate choice of words and I choose to believe her.
The site she wrote for caved to mob mentality and there have been numerous instances of the mob in question going after cast members of the show for daring to be nice to Caryl fans. Don’t believe me, ask Nadine Marissa about the abhorrently racist gif that was posted about her by one of the antis ringleaders…all because she dared to have some nice conversations with people who ship Daryl and Carol. Ask YNB about the mob who attacked her because of her love of Caryl. There are numerous other examples of this behavior over the years.  I, myself, was called racist because, during season 9,  I posted a picture of Norman, Melissa and Macsen and captioned it “Dixon Family Portrait”
I saw things yesterday and over the past year from ALL sides of TWDFamily that made me ashamed to be part of the TWD fandom.
The Caryl family is not without fault here. I have seen people say horrible things about Norman that are simply not true. In fact if anything…basically everything that Norman has said about Melissa and Carol returning has come to fruition or is about to come to fruition.
I have seen some Carylers who have a positive view of the spinoff rejoice in the fact that Sarah was let go from reviewing episodes to further “their side.”  I feel this is ghoulish behavior that should not be happening.
I also think there has been a concerted effort by a small group in the Caryl family who wish to hold on to  their perceived power and to thwart anyone who might have anything positive to say about the spinoff and to maintain their negative views of it.
I hate the gatekeeping that has occurred in this fandom and will most likely continue to go on after this latest episode of drama. I think it’s sad that in a week that we should be celebrating we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot. This division within the Caryl fandom hurts my heart. And NO ONE… and I especially include myself in this…is without blame.
I think we can all agree to disagree on our views of the spinoff and what we think about it. Personally, I feel it’s great and everything is pointing toward romantic Caryl canon. I have enjoyed it immensely. I will continue to watch and make my own judgments about the characters and story as I have always done.
I do want to offer an apology to the Caryl family in general for my participation in the tearing apart of the Caryl fandom. I know we all have sincere feelings about how we feel and I have tried to allow space for people to have their viewpoints. I have not always been successful.  It is my hope that everyone will be given space to express their feelings about the spinoff whether or not those feelings are positive or negative.
Daryl and Carol are pure and that’s why we are all so passionate about them. I believe we have many great things to look forward to and I look forward to celebrating with you all. So Caryl on everyone!
Honestly like
I've been in a zen state of "whatever happens with RWBY happens, it's out of my hands either way" basically ever since the last big RT controversy and Volume 9. I wasn't going to push for a Volume 10 greenlight like some of the fandom were, but I would still watch and enjoy it if it happened. Companies all suck and almost all of the media I love was built on miserable worker treatment; I can name the Metroid Prime trilogy off the top of my head as a known example, the first two games were made under extreme crunch and the third was only marginally better. Metroid Dread seems to have been similarly rough behind the scenes. Across The Spiderverse, too, for a different example. RT wasn't special or unique in this, and I never bought into the parasocial aspect of that enough to feel betrayed by them like many apparently did. It sucks that it is this way, but like, if you tried to weed out every problematic thing from your life you'd be left with nothing; you gotta pick your battles.
I digress. Point is, RWBY's future has been up in the air for A While now, so this doesn't feel all that different for me. And maybe in the long term this could turn out to be a good thing, if someone else does pick it up and can get most of original CRWBY rehired to keep working on it. It is a long shot, but if anything slightly less of a long shot than when the idea was originally brought up during that whole controversy drama. Though I do want to caution people, hope for the best, brace for the worst. This could just as easily turn into another Gen:Lock Season 2 situation.
Honestly, the show I'm much more concerned about at this point is Recorded By Arizal. Those pilot shorts were really promising, but then it's been radio silence since, last I heard, and now whether or not that will get to have anything done with it is unlikely at best. RWBY at least has the benefit of momentum and attention behind it; RbA didn't get a chance to get off the ground, and I'm not sure whether RT or WB or both were to blame. But as unlikely as it is, I do hope that that Yssa can find some way to make it a reality.
But at the end of the day, they're just shows. RT was just a company, and while not uniquely awful like some insist, still a pretty bad one. I'm not really that broken up about it, neither do I see it as cause for celebration. What happens, happens.
The important thing here is the people left behind. Casey Lee Williams having to find out from twitter bothers me a whole of a hell lot more than everything else I previously mentioned about this situation; I really hope everyone left in the drift from this can recover quickly, and I wish them better going forward.
Last Christmas
Pairing: Steve Kemp x fem!reader
Word Count: 1,041
Warnings: Mentions of kidnapping & being held captive, mention of non-main character’s death, Steve Kemp (he’s a warning)
A/N: This is my submission for the tis the season to be thot-y writing challenge. This is written for @onceuponastory. I know Christmas was last month, but life got in the way. I hope you all still enjoy it!
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure why he kept you alive for so long. By now, you had lost count of how many girls had come and gone since you first arrived. There had been; Lydia, Simone, and Melissa. You knew there were more, but; at some point, the names began to blur together. After the third time losing one of them. You told yourself to stop getting attached. It was clear he had other plans for you.
Holidays with Steve were different for you compared to the other girls. They got nothing. It felt as if he didn’t even visit their cells unless it was to collect ‘product’. He, however, loved to visit you. Every day he’d make it a priority to stop by. It had been this way since the very beginning.
You still remember Lydia telling you, “He sounds different with you. Kinder and gentler… it’s a bit unsettling.”
At the time, you tried not to think anything of it. Mentally you told yourself that she didn’t know what she was talking about. You now knew she was right. You had been here for what felt like ages now, and he still hadn’t sold any part of you.
The only thing that helped you keep track of time, was Steve’s insistence on celebrating holidays with you. At first, you refused to act happy about it. But after being cooped up in the cell for so long, you began to look forward to the holidays.
It is early one morning when you are awoken by the sound of music coming from upstairs. You knew Steve loved to dance. He had you dance with him on multiple occasions. You also knew he loved doing it while working. The thing that caught your attention this time though was the song choice. Last Christmas could be heard even from your bed. A small smile appeared on your face when you heard the tune. This must mean it was around Christmas time. Your heart raced at thinking about this time last year. It was last December when you first met Steve Kemp.
Flash Back
God, you hated your job. Everything about your job you despised. Whoever convinced you that working at a jewelry store would be a good idea could die for all you cared. Every customer reminded you just how single you were. Whether it was a husband shopping for his fiancé, or someone buying an engagement ring. You hated it.
Then you saw him. You were convinced you had never seen anyone so attractive before in your life. He walked past the first display, not paying any mind to the store. No way he’s single, you thought to yourself.
As if he heard you, the angel himself looked up and smiled. He then glanced down at the necklaces in front of him and began to look. Fuck. Not single. Taking a deep breath, you made your way over to him. “Hi there, is there something, in particular, I can help you find?” Was your voice always this high-pitched? You desperately wanted to cringe and hide away, and you had barely said anything to him. “Depends, could you show me what your favorite item in the store is?” This was not a question you were expecting. In fact, in all your time working at this store, no one had asked you this. But you could hear your manager Mark telling you to always do what the customer wants. “Of course, uh… that would be this necklace over here.” You take a crescent moon necklace out of the case to show him. “It’s simple but has an elegance to it. Perfect for every day.”
His eyes peered down at the delicate chain and smiled softly. “It’s perfect, I’ll take it.”
Men who looked like him were never single. They always came in shopping for their significant other. A part of you hoped though that this could be for his mother. You knew this was wishful thinking though. “Your girlfriend is going to love this.”
He raised his brow and stared at you curiously. A small chuckle left his lips. “What makes you think I’m buying for a girlfriend?” There was a playfulness in his voice that caused your stomach to flutter.
“Oh, I just assumed…” You couldn’t help but feel embarrassed as you walked over to the registers. “Well, whomever you’re buying this for is lucky.”
The rest of the exchange went like any other. You honestly didn’t expect to see him again after that. But then you began to see him at random places. Your brain didn’t think anything of it back then. You naively thought it was the universe trying to push the two of you together. Now? Now you know he was following you. He was making it his mission to show up where you were so you’d be forced to interact. You had no clue that Steve Kemp had been watching you from afar for months.   No, you didn’t know any of this. So, when you ran into him in the produce section and he finally asked you out. You didn’t see the red flags and couldn’t see any reason to say no.
So there you two were four dates later on Christmas Eve sipping on a glass of champagne. “I’ve got something for you.”
When he pulled the package out from behind him, you couldn’t but laugh.”Did you wrap that yourself? Because it looks like squirrels nested in it.” Steve rolls his eyes as he hands the package over to you. “Hush, and open it.” With a small smile, you do exactly as he says. You didn’t expect to find the necklace you’d helped him find on the first day you two met. Was that why he wanted to know your favorite? Did he plan this?
So many questions ran through your mind as he took the necklace out from the box and helped clasp it around your neck. The cool metal sends a shiver down your spine. Little did you know that your life would be changing completely that night. It would be your last night in over a year since you’d last seen the outside world. Looking back you still couldn’t believe everything changed all because of that necklace.
Wintering (The Irish Poem) - Joel Miller x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Joel reads a favourite poem of yours, and reflects on the subject's similarities to you.
Rating: E. minors dni.
Pairing: Joel Miller x SeasonalDepression!Reader (F)
Tags: Irish coded reader. a little bit of Gaeilge. One Shot. Happy Ending(™). FLUFF. Sickening fluff. Soft!Joel. Established relationship/situationship. No smut in this but could be in the future.(❀❛ ֊ ❛„). Book a dentist appointment my friends, you will probably have cavities after reading this.
CW: brief mention of suicide and overdose attempt, mentions of seasonal depression/mental illness symptoms, mention of SSRIs.
WC: 2.4k
A/N: Happy late St. Patrick’s Day! This work was inspired by an Irish poem called “Geimhriú” by Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh. The translation came from this post, and I only have a little Irish but it seems right. The Irish language is beautiful and I love it dearly, so I wanted my first posted work to celebrate it (i'm terrified of sharing this btw lol). I wrote this bc culture and language is nearly always left behind and forgotten in survivalist worlds like TLOU, and it’s rarely a theme in fics, but is an essential part of survival, especially for Irish communities. I may potentially expand this work to a series to explore more aspects of Irish culture as part of the story if it's well-received and I feel like it. btw this is not beta-read and idk how to format anything - this is genuinely my first time posting so there are likely mistakes! please comment if you find one, or have constructive criticisms, and of course like/reshare and interact if you had a good time reading this, it would mean the world to this little Irish gal.
(♡ ὅ ◡ ὅ )ʃ♡ enjoy!
₊‧°𐐪♡𐑂°‧₊.
Even at the end of the world, in the fucking apocalypse, in this shitty, godforsaken place, you were still somehow suffering from a seasonal affliction.
Depression, that is.
Joel saw it immediately, the way you took a little longer to answer the door when he came for you in the mornings, the bags under your eyes just a little more pronounced as the days in your district grew less colourful and the dry leaves wilted to the sodden earth. He also saw how you tried to hide it and for a while, tried to respect your clear denial of something being very, very wrong.
To your credit, you did what you could; soldiered on. Ate and slept more than usual, like a bear. Before the outbreak, you’d been on Zoloft, then Wellbutrin, but the chances of any SSRI medication still existing were so slim you knew you didn’t need to bother checking.
Even so, it frustrated you every morning, the fact that you weren’t like Joel. That you couldn’t just get up and get on with your day, that you needed some stupid chemical to make your brain work just because the weather was cold and the sky was churning furiously, gnashing it's teeth on nothing but grey, day-in and day-out.
You couldn’t make sense of it. You were living in near constant poverty, under a dystopian military dictatorship and in the middle of a civil war every god-damned fucking day whether the sun was shining or not, so why did the fields being barren and slick with sleet make you viscerally despise life so much more than seeing them full of fresh flowers and humming with bees? You’d still be hungry at the end of the day. Exhausted. What should the seasons matter to you now? There was no difference. No future. Not then.
You had hoped that maybe eventually, living in constant survival mode might, y’know, actually make your brain want to survive. But it didn’t. You hated it. But what you hated about yourself most of all was the fact that you desperately needed help. It was pathetic. Weak.
Joel didn't see it that way. Well, he didn't now.
At the start he thought it hadn't been too serious. Maybe you were 'just tired'.
But then winter had nearly taken you from him that year. The sudden and shocking bone-chill of Boston post-October had him practically dragging you out of your own bed every morning for the “supply run” he had taken to bringing you along on; silently begging you to get up and keep going for his sake if not your own. Telling you if a man from Texas could survive it, you’d better get your sorry ass up and do the same.
He’d found you then, in late December, the dead of night, throwing up and barely breathing. You’d collected enough opioids to kill a horse and tried to take your own life. You’d been lucky to see the next sunrise, and that was the last time he’d allowed you to sleep on your own. And the first time he’d heard of “Seasonal Depressive Disorder”, or whatever it was.
You’d explained that before all this, you’d had medications that would have stopped this issue for you; so Joel, having then appointed your fragile well-being as his responsibility, had looked for some. But of course there was nothing. So much to everyone else's delight, he spent the winter just like you; because like two really fucked-up peas in a pod, if you were in a foul mood, Joel’s was never far behind. With the QZ being overcrowded, freezing, and insistent on working you both to the bone, you were always in a foul mood.
₊‧°𐐪♡𐑂°‧₊
So now he can admit to himself that he likes this; likes seeing the glow of your rosy, apple cheeks in the tangerine afternoon rays of a tired day. The way the sunlight dapples the colour of your hair; the lazy smile that breaks across your gentle mouth as the cool breeze caresses you both. This wheat field is completely abandoned, high bland stalks swaying quietly. The rush of the little river nearby. A perfect place to take you; you who were beaming so joyfully, could’ve replaced the goddamn sun itself as far as it concerned him.
He feels the embroidered spine of your book in his hand, holding it away from your reach. The one you always had open on the same page, the one he caught you reading when you were supposed to have your hands on your rifle and your sharp eyes looking for guards and raiders.
“Let me read it.” he grins without realizing it, stretching a little further away as your fingers grab for purchase, pointlessly. You're too short to even touch the cover as he leans over you. “No!” You reiterate, and he frowns, a finger coming to his lips to remind you of your surroundings. Still careful. “Why not, huh? Can't be that bad if y'like it so much.”
A slow blush stains you as you huff, dropping your arms to your sides. Like a petulant child. Admitting defeat.
“Fine, but it’s not even in English.”
He quirks an eyebrow at that, and keeps your gaze as he flips the faded, worn pages open to find the one he’s looking for. “You won’t understand it.” You whisper. But he doesn’t need to understand it, he just wants to see. It makes perfect sense to him that you're bilingual, he doesn't know a lot about you, but he knows you're smart, and sharp as a tack...as long as something interests you.
The paper of this page in particular is dog-eared to the point of severe damage, and marked to all hell, but it isn’t dusty at all. Whatever this is, he sees that it’s well-loved by you. Well-read. His curiosity gets the better of him as you make one last reach for the precious item and he, with ease and very quiet glee, denies you.
He doesn’t try to read it aloud though, the words roll around on his tongue unfamiliar, tangled up in the calculator of his brain that is so used to the anglo-saxon american structure of speech. But he scans it quietly all the same, to your surprise.
Ná labhair focal,
ná féach im threo,
tá duifean ar mo chroí
nách n-ardófar.
Géillim don ngeimhriú
Ní aithneofar mé
go péacadh na mbachlóg.
Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh.
He clears his throat, and runs a finger along the last line of text; “This the author?”
You peer over, nodding. He hums in acknowledgement, filing the information away for later. Then he graciously hands the book back to you, brushing your fingers with his, and you snatch it away; folding it closed against your lap. A low gust of wind makes the hair that frames the sides of your face dance delicately. You lean back on your arms then, to appear relaxed. Trying not to think of the delicious electricity sparkling under your smooth skin at his touch. Failing. You're hot, now. The humidity doing nothing to cool off the desire pooling in your belly as you look up at him through thick lashes. He's chewing a thought in his mouth, you can see it.
“Gaelic?”
You are actually taken aback, but smile and shake your head good-naturedly at the attempt. “Gaeilge.”
A look of confusion crosses his brow and a laugh, golden and sugary, pours from your chest. It squeezes him with violent affection for you. “Gaelic is Scottish. This is Irish. Gaeilge.” You repeat, cocking your head. “They’re different.”
He nods slowly. He wants to ask you how you came to speak it, and is that why you have a lilt in your accent? did you come from there? From Ireland? And how did you manage to keep speaking it after the outbreak?
 But, he thinks those questions can wait til later. You'll tell him your story on your own terms when you're ready, and he respects that. What he does know is that this must be important to you somehow, and he's happy to focus on that for now.
 “You gonna tell me what it’s about?”
“I could...but those are meant to be read and understood in the spirit of the language they’re in. They’re not meant to be in English.” You season the last word with some disdain, teasing.
He gives you a dry look and you laugh again. Rolling his eyes and pretending to fall over, he pops back up and props his dozy head with his elbow against the coffee-brown and burgundy leaves that have scattered and broken on the ground beneath gale-swept branches. Then he waits.
You take him in in all his intensity, the way his curls ruffle against his hand. The sleeves of his shirt pushed to his elbows, muscles and tendons flexing and taut, brown in the sun and from working outdoors.
You guess you do owe him one. Reaching your free hand towards him, he turns his face into your gentle touch on his jaw, and you just about explode. How could you deny him anything when he looks like this?
“Alright,” You give in, and it feels like the easiest thing in the world.
The book opens once more, and his pretty eyes follow your slender finger against the printed words with his gaze; you feel observed; shy. And you begin, your voice unsure of itself. But his hand on your thigh is cosy, encouraging.
“Don’t say a word,
Don’t look in my direction,
There’s something on my heart
That can’t be lifted.
I give in to wintering
You won’t see me
Til the buds begin to blossom”.
“Til the buds begin to blossom.” He repeats slowly, intentionally.
“You a man of literature now, Miller?”
He exhales sharply. “Not at all, ma’am. Just a curious one.”
The corner of your lips tugs upwards at this easier side of him - and you hum as you close the book and set it down with care, next to you. You each settle against the other comfortably then, taking in the sights and scents around you. A tranquility has made home inside your bones, with the feeling of his warm front against your back and you raise your face to the rays of sun; still beaming onto you from the early evening sky. Your whole body rests now, soothed by his presence.
Comfortable silence blankets over you both, for a few minutes.
“So, d’ya like the view?” He asks all of a sudden, kicking his feet back and stretching against the massive tree he’s got you both behind - completely hidden from the view of the gate patrol. He’s been scoping this place out for weeks, he knows it’s safe.
You feel his shirt ride up against your back and it ignites something that quickly dwarfs anything mellow or peaceful inside you.
“Do I like it, Joel Miller?” You repeat incredulously, turning around and crawling onto his lap; with only a little grace. His rough, calloused hands instinctively come up to your hips, and the denim of your worn jeans suddenly feels far too tight and restrictive for the kinds of lovely, fuzzy messages your body is giving to you. You straighten up, leaning in to breathe; a faint hint of whiskey, lot of smoke. Lot of man. Yours. Your man.
Before you can unleash the teasing reply you had tucked away for him, an unwelcome thought sobers you. He notices the shadow cross your pretty face, the terrible memory flickering away in the back of your mind. Calling back to your thoughts before, you realise very abruptly that you do owe him one. In fact, you owe him your life for this very afternoon. The seeping heat on your skin and the pastel wildflowers. The gorgeous vermillion colour of the sky. The rush of contentment in your heart.
“I never would have even seen this sunset if it wasn’t for you.” You murmur, lowly enough that he has to strain to hear it. A grumble rumbles in his chest but he says nothing in reply, so you stay quiet, and take his larger hands into yours. Trying to convey how grateful you are with your touch. Hoping it'll osmosis or something. Knowing you can never repay him for his selflessness, his friendship, his sacrifices.
He clears his throat then, to get your attention, and you lock eyes with him; searching and deep. Knowing.
“You know I love it.” you whisper, appreciating the deep brown irises framed by spectacular eyelashes. The eyes you’d know absolutely anywhere. “I love it more than anything.”
You’re not talking about the view anymore.
 He knows it, too; lines softening at the complete adoration on your face, the vulnerability; the way you’re giving it all to him. And he wants it even though he really shouldn’t. He wants you exactly like this for the rest of your lives. Warm and happy, tucked up next to him in some butt-fuck middle of nowhere place in the sun, tending to your garden and reading your books and your poems, unbothered by the harsh realities of the world revolving around you. Away and safe from the sickness and cruelty of the cities.
 He watches carefully the radiant glow that’s touching your expression, and he can’t help but understand then, why you like that poem.
It’s you.
In moments like these, when you’re pressed up against him and smelling so sweet he feels heady and drunk, it’s much harder to shove away those very domesticated thoughts he’s been having; of you and the kind of things he wants to give you. The kind of life he wants you to have, together. Although he couldn’t tell you out loud, not yet anyway. He’s working on it.
You wonder what he's thinking about, leaning to press a soft kiss to his chin to bring him back to earth- closing your eyes at rough stubble brushing against your cheek. You feel an earth-shattering smile and wish you could see, but it’s gone by the time you raise your head again.
What you do see is a tanned arm reaching behind you to pluck something from the soft earth.
It’s a sunflower. Bright and plush and golden.
 Like you, he thinks.
Firm fingers gently and deftly push your strands aside, carefully slipping the green stalk of it right behind your left ear.
Leaning back to peer at you and admire his handiwork, he tucks his hands behind his head.
 He compares what’s in front of him now to his memories of last month; your face tear-tracked and pale in his bed, telling him you didn’t want to live. Him never knowing how to help you, spending those bleak evenings with fear poisoning his every thought, constantly worrying he would come back home to you cold and still. Wrapping himself tight around you in his bed late at night in the hopes he could somehow just piece it all back together by holding you. The memories the experience brought up for him; the ones fuelling his terror of failing you, like he failed her.
And now you here, surrounded by spring buds blossoming in the sweet change of the season. Wildflowers, peonies, just like you, so easily pleased by the sun and the green of the forest and the view from the top of your apartment building once the snow had begun to melt. Softened by just a little bit of warmth and a lot of love. A lot of care. He's proud of you and how hard you've worked to drag yourself out of the place you were in.
He’s suddenly finding it difficult to control the way he wants to cry with relief.
You don’t know any of this, of course. But the way he observes you so deliberately sends little shivers down your spine, despite the humidity and haze. You do feel kind of silly sitting like this though, so you reach up to pull the flower from your hair, but his fingers grip your wrist hard and fast before you can get to it and they tell you otherwise, pressing indents into your skin that you'll remember later tonight.
“Don’t.” He says softly. “I like it.”
You try to stop the grin from breaking out but fail miserably, and he's dazzled by it. One smile, and he’s completely and overwhelmingly filled with love for you.
 Yes, he thinks; even at the end of the world, even in this shitty fucking place, this apocalyptic nightmare, you still somehow manage to blossom in the sun.
