ive been thinking about you comic with jayce ever since it crossed my dash -uh so forgive me if these questions are uh abbrasive and yoh dont need to answer them but im very curious about the workd building of his world..? Specifically when he was a blob-conciousness?? Was he fighting the other things to become like a real bot? Were they fighting for physicalality or ? Was that when they were all data? Is this normal? Id love to know more

Ohhh I’m happy you asked! I actually haven’t been asked about his world yet so I’m happy to talk about it some! :) his story is something I want to develop further someday but I’ve been unsure where it’s going exactly for now but I’ll answer best I can;

When jayce was a ‘blob’, that’s my drawn interpretation of his unique AI and it’s manifestation/evolution as it grew and changed! There isn’t really a physical AI form, it’s just a representation of code, data, and electricity because it’s easier for us to kind of see it that way (like tron for instance; human design for something inhuman).

He was part of an unethical illegal experimentation lab using living AI for testing and potential weapons use, and because his program seemed very promising they put him into a final “test” the engineers were pressured into by military to basically create an AI poison jar. The AI were given two options when uploaded into a super computer all at once: either adapt your data or be consumed and integrated by the other programs, because choosing to do nothing was not an option- that giant gray mouth guy you see in there? He’s a super Trojan made to force them to fight or they get corrupted and, well, I guess you could call that ‘death’ but it’s more like having your existence zombified and broken up and smeared into an existential crises of a broken reality. Not fun!

So, jayce had to fight like hell to survive; he ended up ‘absorbing’ all the other AI and using the Trojan like a tool, essentially ripping them up and taking what was useful and discarding what he didn’t need as dead program bits. This changed a lot of how he felt as a living program, his view of the world, and his feelings. He’s one conscience- there isn’t others in his head, BUT sometimes he feels haunted like there’s ‘ghosts’ in his instincts like a part of them sometimes is there. Is he guilty? YOU BET! Was this normal? Absolutely not- it violated tons of ethics codes and rights in this world and was shut down the second it was found out!… after jayce had already broken out. It became a huge coverup thing though so very few people know it happened unless they really really really dig for it.

But jayce’s break out is something I plan to hopefully make into another comic when I have time :) you’ll get to see some more of him then! There’s a lot I’m leaving unsaid but I think it’ll be fun to show rather than tell when I get the time! Thank you for asking!

thank you!! and no worries about asking— i think i put something in my pinned post about how people are welcome to send asks about this stuff, although my story isn’t super interesting. i fell down the typical online rabbithole, a couple weeks after october 7; i knew what had happened, at least vaguely, but the posts trickling onto my dash were all about the (undeniably tragic) loss of life in gaza, with little to no acknowledgment of the hamas atrocities that had started the war, so my narrative was pretty one-sided from the beginning. it just continued to snowball as the months went on and people became more radicalized, calling into question the reality of the 10/7 attacks and the humanity of all israelis. i never went all the way down the pipeline to full-on endorsing hamas or justifying their attacks, at least on a personal level, thank god, but i would reblog other people’s posts referring to hamas as a “resistance movement” and calls to boycott starbucks and mcdonald’s and condemnation of the “zionist media” etc etc etc. what pulled me out of it wasn’t any one thing— if someone had directly called me on my flawed logic and antisemitic biases while i was in this mindset, i doubt it would have done much, just reinforced my belief that i was on the “right side of history” and zionists were aggressors who couldn’t be reasoned with. it was mostly just passive observance and a slow exposure to other perspectives. i’m pretty sure the first post that led me to question my thinking was an ask on jewish-vents, which popped up on my dash in like, late july. this led me down another rabbithole, first scouring every single post on jewish-vents, then moving on to more popular jewish blogs that i had seen on “zionist blocklists” (applesauce42069, xclowniex, and spacelazarwolf were probably some of the blogs that influenced me the most, though i told myself i was just hate-scrolling at first, lol). i felt incredibly guilty seeing all the harm the movement i was a part of had caused to random jews and israelis just trying to live their lives and i realized how it went against everything i believed about how minority groups should be treated. from there, the aspect of actually undoing my thinking and changing my behavior for the better still took several weeks. denial of jewish indigenity to the levant in the face of tantamount archeological and cultural evidence was the first to go, as well as any ambiguity in my feelings about hamas. after that, it’s mostly been a slow process of redefining the idf’s actions from a “genocide” to a “war.” i still believe that what’s happening in gaza is unconscionable and horrific, and that too many innocent civilians have died, but i also understand how difficult it is to fight against a terrorist group that systematically embeds itself in civilian populations, and that the ratio of militant to civilian deaths is incredibly low compared to most urban warfare. i quietly deleted my old blog in early august— if i had directly engaged in harassment against jews, i likely would have kept it to make amends to the harmed parties and put a face to my actions, but as was, i had just contributed to the larger atmosphere of antisemitism on this site, and i felt uncomfortable knowing that i had a blog full of sentiments that no longer matched my values and beliefs. i decided i would be better if i took my endorsement out of the equation entirely, because when you’re looking through the notes of a post, it obviously doesn’t matter if someone who’s reblogged it no longer agrees with what was said— their notes still count as tacit approval, and i did not want approval of this “activism” attached to my online presence. i still have unwanted kneejerk reactions that crop up sometimes, particularly around the fundraiser posts from people “in gaza”; even though i know logically that they have all the markers of scams, there is still a part of me that really wants to believe i could help.

spartaco & crasso are (initially) on opposite ends of the student activist spectrum (crasso leans towards reformist movements, spartaco is more radical) and they spend a lot of time arguing, but at the end of the day. they’re still making signs and showing up to the same protests. incidents, of course, happen.

the narrative of kaveh being an idiot is so baffling to me because he is, quite literally, canonically considered a genius…? why is the popular consensus “6000 IQ alhaitham and his lovably stupid roommate kaveh” when every npc commenting on kaveh refers to his intellect & talent, the literal god of wisdom says kaveh has an “almost-perfect grasp of what it truly means for sumeru to be a nation of wisdom” (whereas she questions alhaitham’s wisdom in her line about him), and alhaitham’s own story profile calls kaveh a genius multiple times??? like the whole point is that he’s alhaitham’s intellectual equal despite having entirely separate worldviews and demeanors, which frustrates alhaitham to no end — ‘how can someone so smart do all of these things that, to me, are so evidently stupid?’ the takeaway from their dynamic should NOT be kaveh is dumb, but rather that empathy and emotion aren’t actually the opposites of logic and intelligence, but sadly both alhaitham and the realm of academia as a whole are too blinded by their own definitions of logic to fully realize that.

tl;dr kaveh is not dumb by any standards and i will prove it

these are pretty self-explanatory — kaveh is a widely-renowned scholar, architect, and engineer throughout sumeru. he graduated from the akademiya with flying colors, students were desperate to take his classes, etc.

both are intelligent but only one is wise: kaveh. alhaitham is too restricted by his narrow definition of wisdom (read: what he deems ‘logical’) to look beyond himself and grasp that there’s more to intellect and knowledge than pure cold rationality. he can’t comprehend that empathy and intellect aren’t fundamentally incompatible — in fact, they’re best when put hand in hand. kaveh is one of the few scholars capable of valuing emotions, empathy, and artistic endeavors, while the rest of the akademiya closes themselves off to that entire realm of knowledge from the get-go. this is what makes kaveh uniquely wise, and what alhaitham lacks. until you understand that emotions and logic can and should coexist, you won’t be successful in the true pursuit of knowledge.

alhaitham’s profile (worth noting that profile stories are pretty much the most reliable source of information on characters’ true beliefs and opinions — their voicelines are still them putting on acts in front of the traveler, but these stories are told from the perspective of an omniscient narrator and are likely closer to the truth):

“two geniuses.” and even after their falling out, “neither of them will deny the other party’s exceptional brilliance” — meaning alhaitham considers kaveh to be exceptionally brilliant. point blank. in the text bro

hilarious line — it’s basically alhaitham saying he doesn’t understand how someone with kaveh’s talent and intellect could have a personality/worldview so different from haitham’s. ‘how can someone that smart be so annoying!!!!!’ and ofc by values we know it’s referring to kaveh’s idealism, empathy, and affinity for the arts

alhaitham considers kaveh to be ���another genius,” someone who is so much his intellectual equal that he’s “an excellent mirror” for alhaitham. it’s like an experiment for him — the initial question is “how can someone as smart as me care about all of these things i’ve always believed to be worthless,” the subjects are kaveh and alhaitham, the controlled variable is their intellect. because their intellect is the same, alhaitham is able to study their differences (can’t attribute said differences to varying intellect). alhaitham would never say it out loud — and luckily he doesn’t need to bc his character story tells us — but he’s deeply fascinated by kaveh bc kaveh’s very existence is a threat to haitham’s worldview, & he’s letting kaveh stay with him bc through kaveh, alhaitham learns about not just himself but the outside world and humanity as a whole, and as a scholar, there’s nothing more valuable. (also because he feels comfortable with kaveh [“he’s a familiar face”] and they’re both lonely [“similarly lacks familial attachments”] lol these two are never beating the We Know You Don’t Actually Hate Each Other allegations but that’s a different point so i digress)

IN CONCLUSION:

this is all just the TEXTUAL evidence — people saying “kaveh is smart” — and doesn’t even include all of the obvious implicit signs of kaveh’s intellect (no one who graduates from the akademiya w honors and teaches classes there could be anything other than incredibly intelligent, al “i don’t do anything that i don’t want to do” “i’m not going to bother explaining it to you because you won’t understand” haitham not only puts up with but actively seeks out debates with kaveh which he absolutely would not do if he didn’t respect him or consider him to be of roughly equal intellect, look at the debates he has w alhaitham on sumeru messageboards and TELL ME those messages sound like they were written by an idiot or itto or something [you cant], etc etc etc).

and also this is all from 3.3 (+ 3.4 alhaitham leaks)! we don’t even know kaveh’s rarity yet, that’s how far he is from being playable, but there’s already this much information on just how smart he is! it’s the main thing we know about him — 1) he’s smart, 2) he’s passionate/driven by what he feels is right! why does that keep turning into “LOL HOTHEADED HIMBO”??!

okay look. this is all so extra i know. BUT. i must set the record straight now (god knows it’ll only get worse the closer we get to kaveh’s release) because this sudden-onset mass illiteracy within genshin players is going to send me to an early grave. feel free to use as a resource and educate the ignorant so kaveh does not end up reduced to a one-note meme dumb guy when literally that’s just… not even in the game. i mean at least other annoying OOC fandom interpretations have basis in the game but genshin literally tells u every time it gets the opportunity that Kaveh Is Just As Smart As Alhaitham Because Cold Rationality Does Not Equal Wisdom/Intelligence and losing that would be such a crime because it is by far the most interesting n promising thing hoyo has done with new characters in ages! like, not only are they funny and entertaining, not only are they fascinating incredible foils for one another, but they’re used to make a much-needed argument against the prevalent hegemony of mindless rationality and our “logical” society’s illogical fear of emotion/empathy. but yeah sure, theyre just itto & ayato 2.0, i guess. god. the lack of reading comprehension among genshin players is literally an epidemic

I have zero problem with buck and eddie being an item, the biggest problem I have is their stans acting the way they are now with the current storyline with tommy.

I mean, I hate to break it to the b*ddie st*ns but you can think your friends are hot and like, not want to pursue them, whether you realize you’re queer or not. The fans are undermining so much of the current storyline that it makes me sad.

Im as aroace as one can be, but also I have eyes lol. I see hot/attractive people, I of course can admit that they are hot/attractive. It doesn’t mean that I want to be with them specifically sexually or romantically.

Also, figuring out your sexuality is confusing and weird. I definitely thought I had a crush on a friend solely because they were a person I got along with and spent a lot of time with and thought that was what I was supposed to do (by the time I thought I was allo).

What I mean is that it’s not always black and white when it comes to what attraction is.

Another thing, and this is pure speculation on my part: the actors are VERY aware of b*ddie and know that it’s one of the biggest reasons people keep watching the show, so they might keep on stirring the pot a bit in the interviews because they know it can create enough buzz for the show to trend and make the network/producers/investors keep renewing it so they can keep their jobs for as long as possible.

Im not saying b*ddie fans are delusional or anything like that but I am really disappointed how many of them (or at least a loud minority) is treating the canon ship as if it’s a stepping stone for another that has yet to be fully confirmed on screen. Sure there are signs in retrospect, but like I said, you can think someone is attractive without wanting to be with them.

This whole thing of buck having always been in love with eddie irks me a bit as it falls in a trope I don’t personally like (someone sticking around because they are pining over their friend the whole time and the friendship is a stepping stone to romance). I mean, if b*ddie happens and it’s done well, I’m all for it. What I really don’t want to happen is the trope I mentioned above. If it’s meant to happen, the best way in my opinion is for the two guys to develop those feelings with time, not it being a realization that they were in love the whole time. Heck, there are dcoms that did friends to lovers quite decently in the past and it wasn’t a “it has always been youuu” situation.

In conclusion, the only thing we gotta take is what is confirmed on screen, in canon. If we are supposed to listen to anyone talking about ships and storyline is Tim Menear and the other writers. And what has been confirmed so far by Tim is that Buck was jealous of Eddie being with Tommy because he was attracted to Tommy without realizing it. In canon so far, that’s what is happening and you have to accept that. The story is about Buck coming to terms with his bisexuality and him and Tommy being in a romantic relationship.

She knew she shouldn’t be here. Father would not be happy if she found out. Lynette told herself it was only for the tea. It was good, after all, and quite novel too. This was the first time she heard of tea containing balled tapioca and being served cold. It was the only cafe in all of Fontaine. Still, if she had to be honest with herself, the unique tea paled in comparison to the real reason why she came.

“Oh, it’s you again!” You greeted with that familiar smile of yours. “Would you like to try a different one this time? The Strawberry Milk Tea is quite delicious.”

“Sure, that sounds nice,” she replied with a smile.

After paying, she took a seat at one of the tables placed inside the cafe, one that got her a good view of you dutifully making her order behind the counter. She made sure not to watch you overtly. It wouldn’t do any good to make you nervous. But in the corner of her eye, she couldn’t stop watching as you went about pouring tea from different pitchers and stirring different pots. You moved with grace as you always did.

Though Father called it “death,” in truth, you barely changed. The way you hummed while you worked was the same, as well as the way your eyes crinkled around the corners when you smiled. Even the way you moved your hands felt as if she had witnessed it time and time again. Everything you did was so… you. And yet, no longer were you the same person she once knew.

“Here’s your order, miss,” you called out as you placed her cup of tea, as well as a scone she did not order. But before she could argue, you winked with that cheeky smile of yours, “This one is on the house.”

You were already on your way behind the counter before she could refuse. After all, it was a lemon scone. Her favorite. That wasn’t something you should know, so how… She sighed and took a bite. There was no use putting much thought into it. She knew how Father’s flames worked. It burned away everything. So your gift was all by chance. That was all.

So if that was the case…

A tear fell. Then another.

How terrible she was for mourning you. She had no right. Though you would always smile so brightly at her, she couldn’t protect you. She wasn’t able to preserve your happiness. Before her eyes she watched as the House wore you down, inch by inch. Every day that passed the light in your eyes grew more and more dim. Then one day you broke.

And she could not do a thing.

In “death,” Father saved you. In “death,” you were resurrected back to life. You could smile now. You could sing. You could be anything you wanted to be. By all means, she should be happy. It was the best ending she could ask for, wasn’t it? But watching you here made her long for the person that’d always roll your eyes when she broke yet another machine, the you that’d laugh when she went in standby mode to escape. She wanted the you she grew up with. The you she loved.

“Miss, are you alright?” You asked, holding out a handkerchief.

Taking out one of her own, she nodded while wiping her eyes.

“I’m alright. Something got in my eye. You don’t need to worry about me,” she replied.

Her heart warmed by the way worry reflected so clearly in your eyes.

“Well… if there’s anything I can help you with, please let me know.”

Unable to deny your request, she found herself speaking before she even realized it. She couldn’t stop herself even if she wanted to.

“Are you happy here?”

Your expression scrunched in confusion as you pondered her question, but soon you came to your answer.

“Working here, you mean? Yes, I’m very happy here. Couldn’t ask for anywhere better to be.”

As you spoke, your eyes lit with life as a smile came to your face. It was undeniably the truth. So as much as her heart ached, she also couldn’t deny the relief that filled it as well.

“I’m glad.”

The thing about how sam’s arc in season 4 is often discussed is that people simultaneously acknowledge that the angels are bad, while claiming Sam is an idiot for rebelling against them.

like I have listened through three (3) rewatch podcasts and they always seem to fall into this loop of going ‘hey the angels are Obviously up to no good’ while also going ‘Sam is really stupid. Why would he trust a demon when literal angels are telling him to stop’
