Redesigning Secret Bosses - DarkRabbit Edition
Hello all and welcome to this new series of ours. Make yourselves comfortable, because this is going to be a long ride of us redesigning secret bosses that we find a bit lacking in some areas. These will mainly be in design, story, and ties to their lores. Without further adieu, let us begin with DarkRabbit.

First of all, I want all of you to remember that this series will exclusively contain constructive criticism on the designs to help further the artist's later designs. Critique is one of the most important parts of art, after all. Anyway, onto DarkRabbit. As for most of @mrchaosman 's Rogue's Gallery, they don't have much direct lore or even ties to a Light World Object. This made it difficult for us to add to the design, as we didn't know what to do. We decided to go the route of DarkRabbit being an amalgamation of all of Kris's or the Vessel's or anyone's thoughts of longing for control. Because of this, DarkRabbit has complete control over darkness and uses it to toy with others. This is also why we gave them the heart patch, the stitch pattern, and the needle in the tail. This is due to strings being a common allegory for control as well as The Soul, which does the controlling. We decided to make them more amorphous and a bit more similar to Asriel's Boss Forme. This slightly comes through in the arms but makes more sense with the weird little blaster mouth near the bottom. It's sort of meant to reference the Hyper Goner. Their lore wouldn't change much, which ends this very short and very first episode of Redesigning Secret Bosses. Thank you to @mrchaosman again for the original idea and design for DarkRabbit. As a bonus, have this sprite.

do you have any practical writing tips?
I sure do!
1. refrain from making your first paragraph describing the weather and season if you’re not going to do anything with it. it’s overdone and tells me nothing about your story. the goal is to hook your reader and make them care about your body of work at the start of your story. instead of talking about the sun shining, introduce your character and start with dialogue or what they’re up to. try talking about what’s happening in the events of the story. if you really want to talk about how the sun is shining, tell me why I should care that it is.
example: “Today is Tuesday, October 29, and the sun is shining. Although, that puts a damper on my mood because I do not feel particularly happy.”
2. write your dialogue the way you would talk. sometimes you don’t need to go the whole nine yards and think about why people talk the way they do unless that’s important for your fic. when I write enha, it’s challenging to write dialogue for 7+ people in the same conversation but you have to imagine you’re the person they’re talking to. how would you react if X said Y?
3. ask yourself “so what?” and “why does this matter?” when you feel stuck. why should character X care that character Y said what they did? why should your reader care that character Y is acting the way they are? if they do something—so what? why are they doing it? what are they thinking? when you have your answer, write it down.
4. do not skip editing. if you want to be satisfied by your work, you will need to read over your story at least once to catch typos, plot holes, and sentence structures so you don’t lose your mind when you inevitably reread it on your dash. saves you a lot of embarrassment in the long run.
5. you cannot edit a blank page. the first draft is the rough draft. write to your heart’s content and make a decision about it after you have words on a page.
6. when you inevitably hit writer’s block (it will happen, don’t fight it), sometimes the best way to get over it is to abandon that wip for the time being and start a new one. sometimes you need to experience Life and explore your other literary ideas before you get an ‘aha’ moment and know where you want to take your story.
lastly, and most importantly: do not write because you want notes. don’t write and publish because you want people to praise you. it will leave you unsatisfied. write because you have something to say.

Well, alright, since you asked so nicely! Here's a step by step process of how I make art.
(I understand you might not have actually meant it, but I wanted to anyway. Plus, people could use this to help with their own art! Also, thank you! I appreciate that!)
Before I get into the actual art: I use Ibis Paint X on my phone. I don't have premium, so this'll be easy for literally anyone with ibis since I won't be usin any premium features. I DO however watch an ad to use the brushes I prefer. I'll give the code to the main one if yall want. I don't usually use a set brush size, but I prefer usin it at 7.0 on a 999×1145 sized canvas.
NOW without further ado, here's the tutorial(?)
I start out by blockin out the shapes I wanna use. I start with a large brush and just loosely scribble an idea. Then I put the opacity to 50% and make a new layer over that one with my smaller lineart brush and sketch out the body of the character I'm drawin. I'm drawin my sona since it's easy.

Next: I draw the clothes over top of the body and the rest of the head. Layers are my best friends when I'm drawin. I use multiple layers all the time. Keep in mind gravitational pull, folds, and wrinkles in the clothes. Think of how loose or tight the clothes are on the body, all that. Also, keep in mind perspective.

Then: put your color layer underneath the lineart and fill it in. Here's the base flat color with lineart for later reference.

Next up: Shadin and lightin. I use a dark purple most of the time for my shadin and a light yellow for lightin, but if I have an idea for a different colored effect, I'll use a dark shade of that color to help the character fit into the environment. I start with soft shadin and lightin first. In the first image, below is the soft layer. I used an airbrush for and put the blendin mode on soft light. Then I go in for another round of the same thing. But with a thicker version of my lineart brush. I usually keep that at 20.0. And I do the same thing, but as hard shadin. I put that layer on overlay to help give some more color to the art. Make sure both layers are clipped onto the color layer, btw.

I think there’s room for interpretation there, but in my opinion: if you were going to note fanfic scheduling, I’d recommend putting it in the authors note of your previous chapter update, if at all.
*by prompts and requests, it means posting a fanfic wherein the only content within is a fanfic prompt or a request for someone else to write a fic

hi! a fellow hogwarts scholar, I see 🤓
okay, so. "viperella" in italian literally means "little viper", and we use it to talk about someone who's a bit of a cheeky bastard, who can say sneaky-mean things and still save face
on twt, italian fans use it (affectionately!) for charles a lot when they talk about his karting & feeder series days, because he was truly feral still – biggest example being when he told the italian sky commentator there'd be no way his teammate fights for a wdc instead of himself, but honestly the inchident interview absolutely 100% quialifies too
sadly the ferrari pr training is a powerful beast, so the first years he was in f1 he was starstruck and/or still trying to prove himself. however, lately his mean tendencies have started to come back in full force! charles is often sarcastic, eyerolling left right and center during interviews, making little comments in team radios, and taking full advantage of his angel face to say funnily backhanded or downright mean things to/about other drivers – especially carlos recently, remember the glorious "i'm better than charles at any sport" "not racing!" convo? or even all the little comments post-monza in which charles keeps saying how he enjoyed racing hard whereas carlos was basically shitting himself 🤭
a lot of charles's tactical likes on twitter are examples as well, and we truly love them. mostly we love that his still-perfect pr training sometimes cracks infinitesimally, especially now that the season(s) and car are what they are – and even though being mean isn't pretty per se, it is one of charles's core personality trait and it's fun when it comes back out
so if you happen to haunt the scary halls of italian ferrari twt and you see tweets about charles with "viperella" or even just the 🐍 emoji in them, that's why

Dear Columboscreens I am unironically having trouble understanding how Columbo actually catches Carsini at the end of Any Old Port, please explain it to me as if I were an ape that only recently gained intelligence
no problem! i'll try to make this easy then and start from the top:
carsini, in a fit of anger over the marino brothers, bonks his brother on head
brother ouchie but not dead (Problem)
carsini drags unconscious brother into wine cellar and ties him up
carsini turns off all air/humidity control systems and shuts the door, effectively trapping his unconscious brother in the cellar for him to run out of air and die a slow, agonizing death (deserves it) (fuck him and the marino brothers)
carsini knows he's traveling for a week, but it's not summer yet, so the wine should go unspoiled by external conditions. after all, wine doesn't really start to "turn" until it sits at over 70-80 degrees for extended periods, and the cellar is cool enough this time of year to stay under that
carsini goes to new york for a week and fritters away thousands of dollars on wine (slay)
carsini returns to find his brother's corpse rotting in his wine cellar. he disposes of the corpse in the pacific ocean under the guise of a diving accident (SLAY) (literal)
because carsini's brother ostensibly left his convertible out in an intense rainstorm and went "diving" during said rainstorm, columbo correctly thinks, "who the fuck does that" and goes on a mad hunt to find the exact weather conditions of the past week.
columbo discovers that it hit 109 FUCKING DEGREES last week. in fact, he calls his wife to ask about the Hot Picnic they went on

CARSINI DOES NOT FIND THIS OUT UNTIL LATER. this is the crux of how he's caught
columbo quickly makes the connection between wine quality and ambient conditions, particularly temperature
after slyly palming an expensive bottle of carsini's wine from his cellar while alone, columbo serves it to him over their romantic dinner date in order to test his theory. this results in the famous LIQUID FILTH scene in which carsini dresses down the restaurant staff for daring to serve him such SWILL

what carsini does not yet know is that this Swill came from his very own cellar. he doesn't have to, though--columbo lets him know how hot it got, which spurs carsini into action. if it really did get that hot, then both of them know that all of carsini's prized wines are fuckin boiled manischevitz now

columbo knows this, and knows that carsini cares enough about the wine itself to consider them ruined and better off dumped. he finds his car by a secluded oceanside bluff as carsini casts bottle after bottle into the rocks below.

this is considered damning because bitch why would you be doing this if not because you ruined your wine trying to suffocate your brother in the cellar!!!!

hi im currently planning out a mha fic (that could now kind of evolved a fix-it fic of sorts) and right now im debating whether or not i want uraraka or bakugou to win during their match during the sports festival. and i like your opinions on uraraka, so my question to you is that do you think it would be ooc for uraraka at that point in the story to win against bakugou during the sports festival?
Well, first thank you, Anon! It’s been ages since given an ask, and thank you for liking my opinion on Uraraka!
Next, no, I personally don’t think it’s impossible or OOC for Uraraka to win.
What I believe would make it OOC is if she is able to keep fighting without any signs of fatigue from her quirk.
In this point of the story, they are still getting use to their powers, some more than others. And Bakugou himself has an inner monologue about how using their quirk too much can wear them out. And that was surprisingly introspective of him.
Now if only Horikoshi practiced what he preached, as Bakugou ends up being able to use his quirk easily and spamming it with no break, as Sero and Kirishima point out.
So, obviously, I am biased about wanting Uraraka to win, and I think it’s just small tweaks in the fight that can make her win. Like her throwing herself to the ground just as Bakugou is about to let loose the explosion that destroys her meteor attack, making Bakugou’s big explosion not as powerful as it was (because his gauntlets were supposed to help make them more powerful then when he doesn’t have them)and he still gets caught up by the meteor shower. Even having it to where Uraraka is just closer enough to where before Bakugou can wipe out her attack and she rushes him and uses her quirk to quickly shove him out and have him go out of bounds.
Or you can take all this, and still have Bakugou win, but the main thing to show from them on is that even he isn’t invincible overtime. At some point, his wrists cramp up to the point his explosions are barely as effected and he loses to someone else.
And the same needs to go to Uraraka. She will eventually get to the point her nausea affects her and she is unable to last longer as the fights. (If you are going to have Ochako go the same bracket as Bakugou did in canon, I think her fight against Tokoyami is where her streak runs out. DS is just too much of a counter for her quirk.) This can still prompt her and have her realize she needs to compensate by finding a way to fight without relying on her quirk so much, because she would feel her getting far was mainly luck, and she can’t solely rely on that anymore. And she goes to intern with Gunhead, just like canon.
Lastly, the reason I believe Ochako winning their match would be more beneficial from a storytelling perspective is that he has to come to terms with the fact he lost against a quirk that wasn’t initially offensive and powerful. He can either show he takes it on the chin, and accepts he lost to someone who has won fair and square, but he obviously doesn’t voice it out loud. Or he’s in denial and accuses Ochako of not being able to do anything with Deku’s help, causing a huge rift between the two, as well as the rest of the class as they hear how much of an ass he was against her.(It depends on how you’re wanting you have Bakugou come across in your story.)
Sorry if this was a lot more info then you originally intended, but I have studied this scene a lot because I found this fight to be bullcrap (again, because I am a fan with Ochako), and I just feel she was done dirty in this fight.

I'm so sorry friend a majority of the black artists I know of the top of my head (which isnt much tbh) are rappers and some rnb singers. k'hood , megan thee stallion, shygirl, mykki blanco, blxckwash her older work is rap but shes branched into metal now). kelela, syd, kehlani, lsdxoxo, le1f, cakes da killa, yves tumor (they're more rock oriented)

This is a genuine question: I know you enjoy lady whump as you have some characters that are female and are whumpees. I enjoy it too, sorta. Truth is that I feel guilty.
I know it’s kinda problematic to see lady whump as taboo and immoral but I can’t help but feel like it’s wrong, I come from a country that HATES women (shocker all countries hate women but I mean mine has a huge femicide problem) and I know how stupid I sound “I can’t feel but it’s wrong” like duh it’s whump! But I honestly don’t know how to get over those feelings, it hits too close home.
My question here is did you ever got those feelings of guilt and if you did, how did you get over those?
It's understandable to feel guilty at times, especially when creating or enjoying dark content (and especially if it's something that hits close to home)
Initially, I had some reservations about lady whump, since in mainstream media, violence against women tends to be a sensationalized thing that exists for shock value or to motivate the male lead in some way
(it's worth noting that the media has a history of doing this to trans, gay, and otherwise queer characters and non-white characters as well)
Initially I was squicked out by the idea of lady whump because I was so used to seeing it through that lens (not to mention, as you've said, the real-life examples)
However, I've seen again and again that whump as a genre tends to handle that material well (with all genders, not just females). Instead of the shock value, whump focuses a lot on the emotions, how the harm affects the character being harmed, and more often than not gives that character a fulfilling recovery arc
Personally, that's what shifted my opinion on it
Even then, if it's something you're uncomfortable with, you're not at fault for avoiding or disliking it. It all comes down to personal preference, and whether you'd like to explore it more or just stay away, it's your choice, and you shouldn't need to explain yourself (/gen)

omg hi! i don’t have any clearcut ideas yet, but here’s the sort of…concepts?? of each group! i might write fics or small story snippets for the au when i’m not busy. also tysm!!! (i’m guessing you’re the same person who commented on my yt, so tysm for that too! i js find tumblr better for replying to since i can type out long answers)
leo/need - rn theres not much difference from the main story, except it focuses more heavily on the bullying plot that was in the unit story (bcuz socs and greasers). they try to form the band despite societal pressure and issues.
more more jump - abt the three girls facing seemingly impossible obstacles to becoming popular singers and minori trying to give them hope despite being a newcomer (there’s also a company mistreatment plot and mystery-ish thing)
vivid bad squad - comedy abt the vivids and the bad dogs constantly meeting each other at the same places (diner, singing competitions, dances, etc), their rivalry, and eventually joining together
wonderlands x showtime - emu and nene forming a theater troupe to revive theater in their area, eventually tsukasa and rui join them, and they dream of putting on a big-production show (wss was in mind, w/ emunene as the leads)
nightcord at 25:00 - the whole mafuyu and her mom plot is the same idk 😭😭😭 it seems pretty universal, even throughout decades. ig the only difference is their roles, since ena is like a ad/merch maker for the group and mizuki is the costume maker. kanade and mafuyu are the “main” music makers, but they all sing

Hey - can you explain the la liga salary cap system? Or do you know a good ressource that explains it? I mean I get the basics, but I really can't judge how certain things (e.g. nike deal) happening impact the salary cap/the club's abilities to do things then...
salary cap | barcelona’s debt (3yo video) | barcelona financial trouble (1yo video)
to summarise, laliga gives clubs a salary limit based on previous years profits, and ours is quite low (but it is increasing). the nike deal along with other deals increases our revenues so next year our salary limit should increase again
we still need more money to return to the FFP 1:1 rule (which allows us to spend everything we earn). we need to meet the salary limit in order to get back to 1:1, either by decreasing wages, or generating more revenue to increase the salary limit more for next season. laporta wants a big statement signing next summer as well so we should expect to see some big sales of players to facilitate that 😵‍💫
we should see our revenue increase A LOT next season, with the spotify camp nou opening, and the new nike deal allowing us to finally open barça stores outisde of spain and sell merch outside of europe (why it took us this long i will never know). which means we’ll likely reach 1:1 in 2026 rather than next summer, but you never know what laporta has up his sleeve

Hi! If you're still answering questions about Ea Nasir, do you know anything about how the translation job got done? Or have any sources referring to the translation of akkadian cuneiform, with regard (but not necessarily) writing used in trade business?
I do! Please feel free to elaborate more if you have specific questions.
I highly recommend Chen, 2021: Sumerian Arsenic Copper and Tin Bronze Metallurgy (5300-1500 BC) for a start. They highlight a few dozen trade words, along with a fairly complete overview of copper metallurgy, which could be helpful if you're new to processing.
If you dig a little deeper, you'll notice that a good 90% of the sources Chen references are from Levey, a mid-20th Century chemist who had an (absolutely valid) fascination with Golden-Age Islamic and Mesopotamian chemistry and trade. They've written about 15 papers, 10 of which I haven't read yet, but all of them discuss trade processes and are well-researched and well-written. However, without knowing Akkadian myself, it's very difficult to validate how correct his interpretations were and if they hold up today. I can verify his chemistry is correct though. JSTOR has most of his papers, and there's at least three copies of "Chemistry Technology of Ancient Babylonia" floating around in libraries around the US. I have one checked out right now, haha. If you're investigating the influence of translation qualities as a whole, you might start here.
I think the only other source you'd find interesting is Leemans, 1960: Foreign Trade in the Old Babylonia Period. Unfortunately, as far as I know, it's only available on Internet Archive. Leemans is the original/most popular translation of Nanni's complaint, and I believe he did the translation with occasional comments from other researchers in the footnotes. If you're investigating the word choices and translation quality specific to Ea-Nasir, I'd start here first.
Strictly on Ea-Nasir, if you're interested in the original archaeological works, good fucking luck, lol. I have a feeling "House IV" and "Old St. 1" are mixed up in the British Museum Archives, or there's additional context lost because it was where Woolley started his excavation on H-area and they changed the street name later. But you can find the original tablet reference (and associated archival numbers) here:
Figulla, H. H., and W. J. Martin. Ur Excavations Texts V: Letters and Documents of the Old-Babylonian Period. Vol. 5. Publications of the Joint Expedition of the British Museum and of the Museum of the University of Pennsylvania to Mesopotamia, 1953.
(^ This is available via inter-library loan, but not online as far as I know. It's very useful for referencing things on Ur Online, maybe even the most helpful because of how long Ur Online's system takes to load. :') )
Last but not least, SumerianLanguage on tumblr did a brief review of Akkadian that I found in Forbes, 1950: Metallurgy in Antiquity. Given the above sources, you might also find this a good starting point, although it focuses on copper translations and not trade as a whole.

Love nice Eclipse as well, I need to draw him more! Decided to share all my TSAMS versions of Eclipse I've made so far. Nice Eclipse has a mix of Sun n Moon outfits and is the tallest of them all. Main Eclipse is the Eclipse we normally see in the show. My dad Eclipse au is basically the same, but has more simple outfits and both his eyes are present and doesn't have any damage either. (Otherwise they look basically alike) And the other au sets as well from alt universes :'>!
