HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO DIRK GENTLY: ALL THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE REFERENCES I'VE NOTICED IN DIRK GENTLY'S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY (a.k.a. everything is connected)

this took a good couple of hours and I tried to do this in order; buckle up!!
SEASON 1:
the posters on the windows as todd is walking by the convenience store place has a silhouette of a falling whale, what I assume is a reference to the infinite improbability drive whale, and an ad that says "zaphod," a reference to zaphod beeblebrox (s1e01 'horizons')
(also todd's stance here is so funny to me)
the rowdy 3, consisting of four (and later five) members, could be a reference to how the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is called a trilogy that happens to consist of 5 books ("there are four of them!" "I'm wildly aware")
one of the screens in the death maze has the number 42 on it (s1e04 'watkin')
SEASON 2:
there are 42 blackwing subjects
farah's awesome jacket with "D Adams" on it and the number 42 (multiple episodes)
the boretons' dog is named agrajag, which is the entity that arthur dent accidentally kills in every incarnation. unfortunately he dies here too (multiple episodes)
in the tree car, farah remarks that "the odometer's only on 42 miles" (s2e02 'fans of wet circles')

I was bored so I made a random swap AU for Portal by assigning each character a number, then going through the list of each character while using a random number generator to assign them a new role. Here we go:
Space Core is the human test subject, Rick is in the place of GLaDOS, Wheatley is Ratmann, Ratmann is the CEO of Aperture, Chell is in the place of Wheatley.
Now time to think of how this would go, I’m just gonna call Rick RickDOS and Space Core Kev for the time being:
RickDOS prioritises making his tests as cool as possible, with extra emphasis on cool stunts and near-misses.
Chell was created to keep RickDOS focused on actual tests, rather than easily distracted by explosions, which is why she’s naturally extremely stubborn and determined. Didn’t work.
Wheatley went mad due to isolation, having no one to talk to except for Hoopy the Hoop, who he carries around with him. Rather than draw on the walls, he hacks random computer monitors or even turrets to display his messages, or leaves recordings of his incoherent ramblings.
Kev is a walking source of destruction, incredibly unpredictable and easily distracted. RickDOS loathes this.
Don’t really have any ideas for Ratmann yet.

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) Oh man it's a harsh tie between GLaDOS and Chell. This *is* a Chell ask blog, so I think I'm legally required to say Chell, but GLaDOS is also right there and I love Her.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) Companion Cube! (does it count? Im counting it.) I have been gifted or made many companion cubes over the years, and I have a 3D keychain one I got from another creator here on Tumblr, as thanks for drawing fanart for their fic. It keeps me company at work!
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) Oh probably Doug! He has such a big piece in why Chell survived, and his comic really shows so much of Aperture from his perspective that the game eludes to but cannot show. Delves into the lore and he deserves the world.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) Also Doug, I loved finding all the radio signals, paintings and signs, and dens of his. The little things that showed that this person existed at all. An impact that cannot be erased by GLaDOS's control.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) ...I do enjoy Wheatley, even if I would also punt him across the room like a football. (it's a fun love him and love to hate him vibe)
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Chell (sorry honey but I wrote angst for you for literal years) (...and still do to be fair)

Okay, this one is called:
We Go Together (Ao3 Link; ~7572 words, pre-Portal)
(CW: Brief mentions of suicide, some "off-camera" deaths in flashbacks.)
It’s part of Brilliant Pillows, my Portal short story compilation. Since I’m arranging these stories chronologically, this new story is actually the 4th chapter out of 13 (just so nobody gets confused).
According to the timeline I’m using for these fics (NB: A complete timeline is all laid out on the introduction page to the compilation), this one takes place in 2008, almost three years after the somewhat problematic first boot-up of GLaDOS, and by now Doug Rattmann is the only living human being left in the Aperture Enrichment Center. GLaDOS has been dormant for most of that time, leaving him free to eke out as joyful a miserable existence as one can muster.
But he knows, or at least senses, that it won’t last. It can’t last. Now it’s January 20, 2008—his 31st birthday, and while it’s still possible to do so he’s decided to actually try to “have a good one” as the kids say. Companion Cube is also there to “keep it real” as the kids also say.
But how good can it be? Furthermore, how real can it be? Read on to find out!
No spoilers (of course) but I will say that this one also includes his personal recollection of the day he met Chell. As a reminder, I headcanon Doug and Chell as fraternal twins who were separated at birth. It is what it is (kind of a crack headcanon I know, sorry 🤷♀️). Also, despite being about a birthday I promise there are no “cake” jokes but I have to shamefully admit there is a birthday cake mentioned in it but it’s not even Doug’s
May or may not feature a special guest appearance by Hoopy the Hoop.

How to Open the Developer Console To open the developer console fallow these steps: 1.pause the game go to options and click on "Keyboard" 2.next click on the button labled "Advanced" 3.tick the box beside Enable developer console (And also fast weapons switch if you want to) 4.then scroll down in the menu until you find "Developer Console" 5.click on it then click edit key 6.next press the button/preferred key on your keyboard you want to use to open the developer console (personally i use the KP_ENTER key) 7.and finally save it and exit the pause menu.
